Expedition Building [Vel & Tae'shara] - Velameestra Windrunner - 06-28-2020

Velameestra ultimately hadn't truly left the homebase of the Reliquary beyond the first few days she had spent making more personally-driven arrangements in Gadgetzan. It was warm, and the harsh light of belore was frequently devoid of the any sort of cloud cover in the arid desert environment.

It was where Kilnar was located, after all, and it was a lot kinder to her skin to simply haunt locales that shade was more abundant, especially with the inevitable trek through the more open regions of the desert looming on the horizon.

The arcanist had mixed feelings on the matter.

Ultimately, it was a unique opportunity. One which had innumerable boons to it.

But the first few weeks of travel were ones she was mentally preparing herself to suffer through in silent misery and frustration. At the very least, the unexpected foray into the more frigid lands of Northrend that she was no preparing for was one that was more suited to her personal preferences in climate. And it provided an opportunity to drown herself and any pressing concerns in work like she was so fond of doing.

...I hope Uther will be okay, given his mood. Remnii is here, ultimately. She's better equipped.

Vel nibbled absently on a small piece of bread she had retrieved as she made her way back to her quarters, her pale eyes simultaneously focused and not as she allowed her mind to drift in the mire of her thoughts. However, they snapped to focus as she caught movement on the edges of her vision, and a slight shift of her head revealed an individual that had become more and more recognizable over the last few days.

The young, dark-haired elf that had been in Kilnar's company had continually popped up in her vicinity, though it had been simultaneously less overt than the shameless following the wolven-formed Nahlen'do had been partaking in, and also more so. While the fellow elven mage tended to blend in with the comings and goings of the Reliquary much better than a large wolf, she also was wont to be far more talkative.

Mentally, the arcanist sighed, and paused her retreat back to her quarters.

"Can I help you, Tae'shara?" she asked.

RE: Expedition Building [Vel & Tae'shara] - Tae'shara Bloodwatcher - 06-28-2020

Slinking no longer required as the other elf announced her name, Tae'shara emerged from behind the corner she had crept around, leaning on the wall as she looked up to Vel. One thing she liked about these goblins was that she didn't have to crane her neck talk to them. Vel was hardly a towering individual by their standards, but Tae'shara stood the better part of a foot shorter than her all the same.

Not that she particularly minded it. Ultimately, it meant she went unnoticed more often than not; something that had been a boon in her life on more occasions than not.

But that wasn't the goal here. She smirked, one hand on her hip as the other supported her weight on the stone. "Well, I was just about to come 'n check to see if you'd eaten yet. Thought maybe we could snag somethin' from in town, considerin' we don't even know how long it'll be 'till you shove out into the great unknown, yeah? This town's got all sorts of good eats from around the world, see, and I'll feel might silly goin' to try it all myself."

She let her shoulder fall against the wall, crossing her arms as she glanced over at the Dalarani elf. Blowing a strand of curly hair from her eye, she continued. "But it looks like you already got dinner for the evening. If you, ah, call that lil' cracker you got there 'dinner'."

RE: Expedition Building [Vel & Tae'shara] - Velameestra Windrunner - 06-28-2020

Is it dinner already?

Vel blinked, the hand that held the supposed 'cracker' dipping slightly.

"I... don't each much," she replied, somewhat stiffly, before the elf quickly glanced out one of the windows. Sure enough, the shadows outside had lengthened enough to indicate belore had entered the lower reaches of its path through the sky, and the tip of the arcanist's tongue was momentarily visible as she pressed it against the tip of one of her canines in consideration.

...so it is.

Subconsciously, Vel's ears flattened against the side of her head as she rapidly realized that she had unknowingly and unceremonious walked into a social trap with no truly valid excuse to offer. Her schedule, until she went to Northrend, was largely open.

Training sessions with Kilnar were timed and scheduled, and the Seeker was not particularly willing to let her push herself to the degree that she frequently liked.

Preparations she could personally make for the upcoming expedition were now limited as access to a teleportation circle in Gadgetzan had been secured.

Her personal research was somewhat on halt. She didn't have the resources for it.

Packing was pretty much completed. She didn't have many belongings presently.

Any half-hearted retort of "I'm busy" would ultimately have been a clear and outright lie, and, she had a feeling, would just have turned into an escorted trek back to the kitchens to get something more substantial than the roll she was finishing. Or could have just as easily been turned into an unintended insult, as... was frequently the case, she had noted, with people that didn't have a degree of established history with her.

Mentally, the elf sighed again.

"...but time, it would seem, has gotten away from me," she replied finally. "Though I'm... not particularly adventurous in my eating habits, I'm afraid."

As if to prove the statement, the rest of the roll (unbuttered as it was) disappeared into her mouth.

Tae'shara chuckled. "No wonder you're so skinny!" The magister stood up from the wall and slipped a pouch of coins from her belt. "There's a place on the east end called 'Azotha Eats.' Haven't been able to go yet, but I've heard its got some great South Seas dishes."

The magister tossed the coin pouch up and down in her hand as she moved closer to Vel. "It's a little pricey, but don't worry, I'm buyin'. You in?" she asked with an eager smile. "'We could go somewhere else if you think it'd be a little to exotic for ya,"

RE: Expedition Building [Vel & Tae'shara] - Velameestra Windrunner - 06-28-2020

Vel blinked again.

I'm sure she can find other people to go with her. I don't know why she's asking me specifically.

The curiosity came and went as the elf resigned herself to mentally prepare for a social encounter she had not been anticipating. She raked a hand back through her hair, pulling her thick bangs away from where they typically obscured one of her eyes and the new tattoo that was now healing on her cheek, and letting them fall back into place.

...she reminds me of Esara. A bit.

An involuntary pang centered on her chest as she recalled the unexpected sequences of sendings she had received not even two weeks ago by her calendar, even if there had been a much broader range of time between them in reality.

Great.

"I'm... sure I can find something. If you're buying, it's your choice," she said. "Thank you, though. Not an... expected offer."

RE: Expedition Building [Vel & Tae'shara] - Tae'shara Bloodwatcher - 06-29-2020

Tae'shara pumped her fist in the air. "Hell yeah! Let's get goin'! We don't wanna get slammed with a dinner rush or nothin'."

She reached over and grabbed Vel's wrist, tugging her down the hall as they left the Reliquary's unfinished headquarters. As the two girls made their way out into the streets of Gadgetzan, Tae'shara put her arms behind her head as she looked up at the sky as the sun began its descent. "I could really get used to a place like this, y'know? Endless sun, endless opportunities... And no snow in sight! Brrr," she shiverred dramatically. "Dalaran got lots of snow during the winter, huh? Dunno how you Kirin Tor types put up with it."

She glanced over at the copper plates that were attached to the various oil lamps set around the streets, which detailed (in both Goblin and Common) what streets they were on. It wasn't exactly the most helpful way of navigating; Gadgetzan was far from a neat lattice of geometric roads, resembling more a pile of string dropped on a map than anything, but it was better than nothing.

"Though I guess you could probably just disappear in the winter, yeah? Bet you're the undisputed champ when it comes to snowball fights!" she said with a laugh.

"I think we're lookin' for the intersection of Sandlake and Grimestreet... Grimestreet's over here, so... Sandstorm... there's Saltlake..."

RE: Expedition Building [Vel & Tae'shara] - Velameestra Windrunner - 06-29-2020

An involuntary, surprised sound escaped the back of Vel's throat as she was abruptly pulled along with a degree of vigor that was completely unexpected. She had righted herself the moment they got out into the open streets, adjusting her coat so it fell evenly on her shoulders instead of being skewed as it was, though the distinctive pink tint to the tips of her ears betrayed the moment of dishevelment.

"I... actually haven't been in a snowball fight in some years," she offered, doing her best to keep up the relatively rapid-fire pace of Tae'shara's questions while simultaneously avoiding running into the (smaller) denizens of the goblin city. "But I prefer cooler temperatures. I don't know how you can deal with the sun, to be honest. Or the sand."

Hearing the names they were looking for, the arcanist promptly shifted her gaze to help look, her pale blue eyes shifting from nameplate to nameplate so quickly she was barely giving herself time to read them. She mentally cursed the horrendously disorganized setup of the desert town as she realized there was really no rhyme nor reason to names or layout as was the case in Dalaran, Silvermon, Lordaeron... any sane example of architecture.

"There," she said finally, her eyes locking on a nameplate. Several of the letters looked partially worn by the ongoing erosion of blowing sand, and faded by the harsh desert days, but sure enough, she could make out "-and-ake".

"...I believe, anyway."

RE: Expedition Building [Vel & Tae'shara] - Tae'shara Bloodwatcher - 06-30-2020

"Tha's it!" Tae'shara said, pumping her fist with a little hop. "Hell yeah. Good eye, Vel! I can call ya Vel, right?"

It didn't take long for them to find the place. It was a small, one-story building that was as much open air as it was indoors. The diner wooden chairs and seats carved in the form of reeds. Wicker torches sat, unlit at the moment, up and down the area, which had a long bar that stuck halfway into the outdoor seating area. The decor was more than a little tacky, and clearly was crafted neither by trolls nor natives of southern Azeroth, but it could have been a lot worse. Glancing at the bar seating outside, a few others seemed to agree. Three trolls sat nearby, the two jungle trolls among them cheering and jeering as the clearly younger sand troll struggled to chug his own drink. On the inner portion, she spied Makasa, the acting captain of the Gold Standard, drinking alone inside at the inner-most section of the bar, more than a few seats between her and any other patron. At tables both in and outside, humans, goblins, elves, and a few creatures she didn't recognize. At one table, an olive-skinned human woman made company with what appeared to be a diminutive rabbit-like humanoid and what appeared to be a tall and elegant murloc, another held a group of dwarves she assumed were Explorer's League, and at a third sat the curious bull-like creature she had seen working at the forges, along with an elegant, somber-looking elf.

She stood on her tiptoes and glanced around. They were busy; most of the tables were filled up, but not enough that the two of them wouldn't be able to find a spot.

As they approached, the smell of roast pork and seafood hit their noses, followed immediately by the sweet smell of pineapple and coconut, and the unmistakable waft of alcohol. Shara couldn't help but lick her lips. She scooted forward and held the door open for Vel. "And do you got a preference on where we eat? D'you wanna sit at the bar, or at one of the tables?"

RE: Expedition Building [Vel & Tae'shara] - Velameestra Windrunner - 06-30-2020

Vel's ears once again involuntarily flattened once she got a good look at how busy their destination was. Interesting, in a lot of cases--there were a lot of humanoids present that she had never seen before--but teetering on overwhelming.

In truth, the last time she had been specifically to a restaurant that wasn't also an inn was back in Dalaran during her meeting with Aethas. And the small, homey diner he was so fond of was significantly less bustling and more private. And even then, she was there with a purpose to focus on.

Not... just because.

"Ah..." Vel hesitated as she slipped past her shorter companion, her expression betraying how rapidly the gears in her brain were turning as she attempted to process the layout of the building and the people inside it in rapid fire before Tae'shara's question finally registered.

She blinked.

"A table would be fine. I see an open one over there," she replied, her eyes honing in on the bare table with another bout of abrupt fixation. Notably, it was one she had identified as being as far away from the centralized commotion of the restaurant as she could manage, and as she led the way to it, she quickly and unceremoniously claimed the seat that left her back against a wall (protected) and the entrance to the establishment well within her field of vision.

"Popular spot," she commented, suddenly confronted with a sheer lack of conversation fodder. "I've... not seen as mixed a group in... ever, actually."

RE: Expedition Building [Vel & Tae'shara] - Tae'shara Bloodwatcher - 07-01-2020

"Sounds good," Tae'shara said, sliding into the spot on the table. The casual diner seemed not to assign seats, but rather seemed to have servers that flit around securing demands as they came.

"Yeah, this place really is somethin'. The goblins might be a bunch of cheapskates and swindlers, but they really can accomplish stuff that no one in their right mind would even try." She threw her arms up in a shrug. "Who in their right mind would try building a city in the middle of the desert and fill it with tourist attractions? Buch of loons... but here we are, sittin' among folks that'd never share the same room together otherwise. I mean seriously, elves and trolls in the same room without killin' eachother, a bunch of folks I ain't never even seen before, and a dead woman and a street rat, all sharin' the same air," she said with a wink, "Maybe their brand of crazy's infectious, or maybe its the greed. Or, maybe its just nice to have somewhere where everyone's gotta watch their backs on an even playin' field."

Absently, as she leaned back in her seat and got comfortable, Tae'shara produced a silver coin and began weaving it in and out of her fingers. She rolled it onto the wooden table before she caught it and spun it as a server approached.

"Welcome to Azotha Eats, where tha surf an' turf will make your day complete!" the girl said, almost authentically enough for Tae'shara to not pick up on the fact that she probably had to say it hundreds of times a day.. She was as cute as her accent, her dark skin pocked with darker freckles. She was no older than twenty, and though she looked human, the slight point of her ears suggested the hint of elvish heritage. She smoothed out the thatch skirt she wore and smiled, the sparkle in her eyes made more prevalent by the floral arrangements that decorated her hair like a crown. "Mah name is Kiana, and I'll be your server today. Can I get ya ladies something to drink?"

Tae'shara chuckled. "They really make you memorize that little jingle?"

"That was tha abridged version," Kiana explained, the twinkle in her eye flickering away for the briefest of seconds. "And there is a dance involved." Though her voice didn't betray her cheery demeanor, Tae'shara could hear the pleading in her words. "Please don't ask. I'm contractually obligated ta do it if ya do."

Shara held her hands up. "Oh, no no, please don't. I dunno who that'd be more torturous for," she said with a laugh. She took a look at the menu board posted above the bar and squinted.  "Water ain't free, is it?"

Kiana giggled, "In Gadgetzan? 'Fraid not, Miss."

Shara sighed. "Yeah, shoulda guessed. I'll have some nonetheless. We'll start simple'n decide if we wanna chase it with somethin' a bit more exciting later. How 'bout you?" she said, looking at Vel.
