Once upon a time, there was a Prince of a beautiful land. In this land all the people were happy and taken care of. The nobles of this land, instead of abusing their power, used it to make sure those under them were happy. This land did not war with others, nor did others war with it.
One day that Prince left this land to another, traveling there for a time he made new friends and used his magic to help the people there. However something happened while he was away and his land faded away to nothing. The Prince was the only one left of his whole kingdom. So he decided to make a new kingdom. He began to search the world, while fighting against those who would see it end. He learned many things and made friends, but still knew he had no home to return to and no family left to find.
He traveled with his friends for a time and one day during his search he saw a common rat. He smiled thinking about how impressive such animals were. Found in every city, every forest, every ship. Then he realized he needed new people to populate his land, to take care of, and to watch over and teach. So he found eighteen rats, and gave them the gift of thought and speech. They were the First, the ones who would help the lonely Prince find a new home for both him and themselves.
Over time, the Prince realized the First had moved on, to begin to search and spread. He felt joy in his heart knowing they were finding their way in the world. He once again however grew lonely and though he was happy for the First he knew they would not stay with him forever and so he created the Second, where his First would spread quickly throughout the world, the Second could help the Prince watch over it and the First. So the Lonely Prince gifted ravens making the Second the way he made the First. The Second were to be the Prince’s messengers and eyes, to help him watch over his new Kingdom after the First found such a place.
