Nihli's grip had gradually tightened on Seasil's as they descended deeper into the alien structure. She nodded affirmingly at Seasil, though her eyes never once left the silhouette of the Dusk Emperor.
"Most did. But legends have root in truth, of that we have seen firsthand." The Dusk Emperor slowed her pace as they wandered the halls in intermittent silence, shortening the gap between the three.
"Only a select few knew the truth - not even the Tyrant-King knew. But the secret was preserved. We was believed that Lunaeth's guidance would be needed again some day. They were correct."
"Um," Nihli said. Her voice echoed, unlike before - nearly without realizing it, the trio had entered a large antechamber, much larger than Seasil would have anticipated. As her eyes dialated, she could scarcely see the ceiling. They had stepped out onto a long platform, a raised section that stood like a balcony over a vast section of stone covered in darkness. A single beacon of pale golden-green light shone far in the distance, outside of perception.
"Hmm?" the Dusk Emperor inclined her head and glanced back towards the young Exaltess.
"Your Radiance... you keep saying 'we.' But it... it is not like the royal 'we' that you used earlier, either."
A faint smirk graced the Dusk Emperor's pale face. "Observant, thoughtful. You have learned well, enlightened youth of the Onyx Emblem."
The Dusk Emperor stopped and turned to face the girls. "Your intuition is correct. We were once called Avrivi of the Opal Emblem. But we have become the Dusk Emperor, as those before us have, to cultivate a future of enlightenment, wisdom, and prosperity."
