Drew more or less fell through the door of Connie’s apartment. He took the last few shaky steps before he collapsed onto the couch where Eli was sitting.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been this tired before.”
If anyone said anything it didn’t really register a result of both injury and exhaustion. The all too familiar sensation of crashing after new bruises almost made him want to laugh. Seems like his old life prepared him for this part of his new one.
A sarcastic laugh echoed in his head. “I thought I finally got away from a life of bruises.”
The dull ache started to become sharper as adrenaline faded out of his system. He fought the impulse to curl up. He started instead to assess the damage he’d taken. He forced himself to sit up as he stood again.
“How... bad is it?”
He winced as he pulled off his shirt as it rubbed against the raw skin on his back and chest. He experimentally moved his arms to stretch the skin and almost immediately stopped. A sharp intake of breath accompanied the pain that shot across his back.
He looked at the shirt in his hands and his head spun at how wet the shirt was. He’d never bled quite that much before. His vision went blurry and he remembered seeing Connie and Eli moving towards him before his world tilted then vision went black.
