Selin chuckled. "I share the sentiment, my friend. I thought we elves were ambitious and conniving, but clearly we had but scratched the surface. I did not believe certain members of my kind could conflate their egos or ambitions further than they already were, but it is clear the pretention of some knowns no bounds."
Selin sighed with a resigned smile and shrugged. "Alas, it seems unlikely that you and I will be able to avoid such machinations for as long as we live. It pays, then, at least, to have a confidant. After all, complaining can sometimes be quite cathartic, and I have been known to be a fountain of unwarranted advice, when the situation calls for it. As you have bore witness to firsthand."

"War, while necessary, is not always great for one's social life, after all. I really must get out more for things other than meetings and training exercises, invigorating as they may turn out to be."
