June 9th

The group had awoken back in the cave, and Yona had offered to give these strangers food. However, Tara turns to Vel and speaks in the best common she can muster.

Tara Windtotem says: Um. I am sorry… I don’t know what happened. The ritual it… hurt you. I did what I could but the water only seemed to make it worse.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It wasn’t your fault. It wasn’t something you could anticipate. Consecrated water harms undead, and that’s just the nature of it.

There is a palpable silence as the shock of the statement fully settles into those present in the cave. Samaara still seems to be a bit shaken by what happened in the Veil, but she immediately looks over to Remnii, who does not look surprised. Samaara blinks, and turns back to Vel, but doesn’t say anything else.

Remnii’s gaze is flickering between Samaara and Vel, and she opts to break the silence with a low, and quiet voice.

Remnii says: Would you like healing, Vel?

Vel stiffly nods, as her skin is still scalded and burnt and she is clearly in pain.

Remnii’s hand alights with a black flame which flows like ink in water as she starts to tend to Vel’s wounds.

Remnii says: I’ve had this spell prepared in case, but I’ve never done this before… so lets see how this goes.

The priestess’s eyes darken as she lays a hand on Vel, allowing the energy to flow over her and start to knit her wounds together with the shadowy energy. Vel gives Remnii a nod of thanks, before looking back to Yona and Tara.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I… thank you for your hospitality. Unfortunately, your food would be wasted on me. I think I am going to go take a walk.

Remnii smiles, recognizing the phrase as one that she had told Vel not long ago, and she waves Vel off as the arcanist folds her hands behind her back to start to head out of the cave. Tara seemed to be a bit stunned into silence, but Yona furrows her brow.

Yona Windtotem says: If you need anything, just let me know. It is the least I can do for the kindness you showed.

Vel nods back at her in appreciation, but disappears from view. She stays near the cave entrance, her form periodically visible through the trees like a ghost, but she keeps some distance.

Inside, Yona claps her hands together.

Yona Windtotem says: I will begin a small meal for everyone. I believe you all may need a bit of time.
Remnii says: Are you feeling okay?
Yona Windtotem says: I am… rather tired, but thankfully I should be capable of preparing a simple meal. And I should be able to sit while doing so. But thank you. Nothing rest won’t help.

Remnii nods at her.

Yona Windtotem says: Tara, if you would be kind to help?
Tara Windtotem says: Of course!

Tara takes her mother’s hand and they start to navigate around to prepare some food. Broll watches Vel leave, but after she leaves he glances at Tol’vas, and then to the rest of the group. Tol’vas looks unhappy.

Wulf gets up from the wall.

Wulf says: Well. Looks like everything went well enough.

Remnii nods. Wulf seems relatively unphased by the revelation, given he doesn’t have a lot of understanding of the situation.

Samaara says: We should head outside. I feel uncomfortable being in such a sacred place without our hosts.

They head outside into the living area, and it’s rather quiet. Remnii lays a hand on Samaara’s shoulder at one point and it’s rather quiet. Riff, however, is chatting up a storm and is also anxiously waiting for Vel to come back.

Riff says: Mada, was that your mada? She was really pretty!
Seria says: Yeah, that was her.

Seria also seems to be rather pensive. Vel is staying in the area, but she is walking for a bit. After some time, Yona emerges from the tent with her daughter and some simple stew made of local game and root vegetables and mushrooms.

Yona Windtotem says: Eat up! I made plenty for everyone.
Remnii says: Thank you.

Vel returns as the group finishes eating, and Riff waves at her eagerly. Yona nods in her direction.

Yona Windtotem says: Now that we’ve finished eating, I should thank you for what you’ve done. You endured no small amount of risk… this has been a humbling experience for myself, as it is wise to be reminded that even those with many years under our belt can always have something new to learn, and we are not infallible-- which is a wise lesson for you to write on your heart as well.

She gestures at Tara and Tara nods.

Tara Windtotem says: Of course!
Remnii says: Without Tara’s help we would not have been able to go at all.
Yona Windtotem says: So I have heard! I am proud of you. You have far exceeded my expectations. Such a ritual is not easy to perform, Tara. I believe you must give yourself much more credit in how gifted you have become.

Tara sheepishly toys with her hair a bit.

Tara Windtotem says: Thank you. I can only hope I can live up to our ancestor’s expectations.
Yona Windtotem says: You have done well. Without you, they wouldn’t have been able to rescue me from that place. I’m sorry if anything you saw there was… difficult. In my attempts to alleviate the existence of the spirits that dwell within the highest reaches of these mountains, I fell victim to their attempts to help, and I’m sorry for any stress it caused any of you.
Remnii says: They seemed to be well intentioned if not accidentally misguided.
Riff says: What were they?

Yona hums.

Yona Windtotem says: Contrary to popular belief, the Bravewind Mesa was not named for the weather. It was named for the spirits that dwell here, those of the nameless braves that lost their lives, those who have gone missing, those who were never given a chance for a proper burial. They do not do so out of malice. They ensure that their loved ones do not forget the love they shared. These spirits of the wind are what truly gives this mesa this name. Those spirits are the same beings you and I encountered. They are doing what they believe is right, even if what they show can be… harmful, or enrapturing, as you saw yourselves. But you’ve shown great strength in overcoming it! Greater strength than even the most seasoned spiritwalkers. But Tara told me you came here with a purpose. That you sought water from these blessed springs, is that true?

Remnii nods.

Yona Windtotem says: Then if you would be so kind to wait here. Tara, could you help me in gathering some? Your assistance would be valued.
Tara Windtotem says: Of course!

They take each other’s arms and head back into the springs. Wulf looks over to Vel.

Wulf says: Feeling better?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yeah.
Wulf says: That water did a number on you. Sorry I didn’t pull you out quicker.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It’s fine. Not really something that could be anticipated. But it’s appreciated, regardless.

Samaara’s hand is resting on her chin, and she seems pensive.

Samaara says: There was… something that was bothering me about the proficiency at which you scaled the mountainside. I suppose this is another ability?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I don’t need ropes to climb.
Samaara says: Useful. How long was this a secret?

She looks at Vel, but her eyes also scan back over to Remnii.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Around two weeks. The centaur camp.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: So you chose that?

There is a degree of venom in Tol’vas’s voice.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes.

Samaara looks over to Uther.

Samaara says: Judging from your reaction, I surmise you knew as well.
Uther Menethil says: I did.

Samaara nods.

Samaara says: I will say it was certainly not the explanation I expected.
Velameestra Windrunner says: ...In regards to the water, there are not many others that would stand.
Samaara says: Do any of the others know?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Elissa does.

Samaara nods.

Samaara says: I would suggest you inform the others as well. Those who travel with us deserve to know the nature of what you have become.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Given only three people don’t know, it would be entirely unfair to leave them in the dark.

Wulf shrugs and nods in agreement. He doesn’t seem to know what’s going on, exactly.

Samaara says: Given that none of us were able to tell readily, and otherwise nothing has really changed, I don’t see a problem with this… though I would perhaps ask for further clarification. I understand that the undead are as numerous as stars in the scars, and you don’t look like some I have encountered.
Velameestra Windrunner says: My… what I am has emerged fairly recently, in the scope of everything. To our knowledge, anyway. Outside of stories. I’m a vampyr. They exist on what I’ve started to refer to as vitae, which is the life essence carried in blood.

Riff’s eyes go wide, as he abruptly connects some dots.

Riff says: So that’s why you carry so much blood! And why you made the blood magic!
Velameestra Windrunner says: They are not divorced, no.

Riff’s eyes are wide, and he seems to be amazed by the idea.

Broll’s brow is furrowed as he listens.

Broll Bearmantle says: Even I’ve heard tales of vampyrs… I suppose many cultures may have such stories.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Stories that are quite varied in their accuracy. But ultimately, I’m taking an active role in figuring out what this state means. And what it will take to adapt. And… forgive the obfuscation.

She looks back at Samaara.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Given the intrinsic biases toward such a state, I wanted to ensure I had at least some tangible evidence that I would not be driven to harm.
Samaara says: I am rather familiar with the concept of asking for forgiveness rather than permission.

Samaara glances over at Remnii.

Samaara says: I wager we both are.

Remnii can clearly tell she’s talking about Yrel, and also Remnii at times.

Remnii says: When you came back as yourself, and as we have been moving, there are… great lengths of trust many of have gone through to get to these points. Between everyone.

She smiles at Vel and nods. Samaara sighs.

Samaara says: Ultimately, you have made a decision, and it is one you are handling. I cannot claim to make sweeping judgements on those decisions or what you have become. By all rights, you have earned Remnii’s trust and that is enough for me. As long as you do not endanger anyone, I see no reason as to why you should not be given that chance. I do believe it would have been nice to know previous to this moment, but now is better than tomorrow.

Vel inclines her head in acknowledgment.

Broll Bearmantle says: I am in no place to judge. You have done a great service for me, and whatever afflictions or maladies you have taken has not changed that you have gone out of your way to assist me personally. Besides, I believe I did not meet you before this, um… change.

Wulf shrugs.

Wulf says: I barely know what that means.
Riff says: I think it’s pretty cool! And if there’s anything you need, I can probably get you blood! If you don’t need to eat normal food or nothin’, then it be like huntin’, yeah?

Samaara nods.

Samaara says: It is good to know the needs of our… particular group, so we do not waste undue resources.

Vel gives Riff a look that is equal parts appreciation and a silent suggestion to maybe slow down just a little bit.

Tol’vas stands up, promptly turns into a wolf, and walks away. Broll watches him go for a moment before looking back to the group.

Broll Bearmantle says: I… will speak to him.

After a moment, Broll goes to follow. However, Seria also gets up and promptly leaves the circle without a word.

Riff says: Mada? Mada!

Riff goes following after Seria.

Broll had followed Tol’vas.

Broll Bearmantle says: Are you alright, Tol’vas?

There is a snarling edge to Tol'vas's voice.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: She chose to be that. I didn’t choose to be me, and she judges me so harshly for it.
Broll Bearmantle says: We’ve all made decisions, Tol’vas, and we all carry the weight of those decisions and failures we’ve made. The good and the bad. I don’t know the exact situation that her and her people have gone through, but ages ago, your circle made a choice as well, and that choice led you to this place you now stand. In spite of her judgement, she still agreed to help you. That seems to be the nature of these strangers from the east. But I understand. It is unexpected, to say the least. Yet she represents the antithesis of what we do, not only a wielder of forbidden arcane magics, but of beings infused with death, she is still trying to help us, and them. That I believe is also worth consideration. But we make our own decisions. If this is too much, I will explain to them if you must leave. And I don’t believe any of them will judge you for it.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I don’t trust her.

Broll nods.

Broll Bearmantle says: Trust is something that must be earned.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: And the hypocrisy. She wants to adapt, but so am I.
Broll Bearmantle says: Then perhaps the two of you can come together on it. Different circumstances can breed unity on it. I don’t imagine she places much trust in you either, though I cannot say.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Though I imagine she thinks I’m nothing more than a wild beast.
Broll Bearmantle says: Then that’s up to you if you want to prove that wrong, or if you want to solidify what she thinks. But either way, that decision is yours.

Tol’vas shakes his head.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I can’t leave. Not after I infected one of them. That’s my responsibility.
Broll Bearmantle says: I’m glad you’re taking that responsibility. Not all may see it that way. But you made a mistake, and you are owning up to it. But take the time you need. I’ll come fetch you once we are ready to go, if you have not returned. I can’t say for certain, but I believe you and Miss Velameestra have more in common than you might believe.

Broll puts a gentle hand on Tol’vas’s shoulder, and then leaves.

Meanwhile, Riff follows Seria.

Riff says: Mada? Is something wrong?
Seria says: I just want to be alone, Riff.
Riff says: But… is it because of… is it because of what Vel is?

Riff deflates.

Riff says: I’m sorry.

Riff turns and starts to head back to the campfire. He immediately buries his face into Remnii’s lap and starts to cry.

Remnii says: There there…

She strokes Riff’s back and runs fingers through their hair. Yona and Tara also return, and the two have water in hand.

Yona Windtotem says: Oh. I’m sorry…
Remnii says: Growing pains of a traveling party…
Yona Windtotem says: Oh, I see…

She hands the vials to Remnii.

Yona Windtotem says: As long as you use them in the next seven days, they should persist. After that time, I would not suggest you handle it still…

She looks at Vel.

Yona Windtotem says: But you should be able to still use it.
Remnii says: It should be delivered tonight or tomorrow. But thank you for your kindness, it has been an exciting few hours.
Yona Windtotem says: You are welcome to stay for as long as you need. I am going to rest, but Tara, if you would see to them?
Tara Windtotem says: Of course, mother.
Yona Windtotem says: Earth Mother bless all of you.

They see Yona off, and Remnii looks back to Riff.

Remnii says: Are you okay, Riff?

Riff shakes their head.

Remnii says: It’s also okay to not be okay.

Remnii sits with Riff for a time, and Riff eventually falls asleep in Remnii’s lap. After a time, Tol’vas returns to the group. Seria remains gone for a bit, flying in raven form. The sun starts to set.

Samaara says: It seems… we should camp here. Perhaps it would be best to continue tomorrow, and then we can find Seria if she wishes to be found.
Remnii says: Camping here would be wise, I think.

Seria returns near when the group is settling in for the evening. Riff had also woken up by then, but he appears rather downtrodden. When Seria returns, he looks up at her, but then immediately avoids eye contact.

Remnii inclines her head to Riff, who had not left Remnii’s side.

Remnii says: I’m sure she would like to see you. We’re not going anywhere. I imagine there is a lot to process everywhere. That’s even before everything with Vel. Those spirits meant well, but sometimes seeing people you have lost can be painful. Good, but painful. Bittersweet. She’s never been very talkative.
Riff says: I just don’t want mada to hate me…

Remnii sits up a bit, and with a sympathetic look she looks down.

Remnii says: Do you want to talk? What’s bothering you? You don’t have to say if you don’t want to.
Riff says: I don’t think she likes Vel, and she told me to go away. I think she’s mad at me.

Remnii shakes her head.

Remnii says: I don’t think she’s capable of doing such things. She’s capable of being angry. She’s capable of being happy and sad and… this will not be the last time that she may need to be alone for a little bit. That doesn’t mean she loves you any less. What she thinks of any of us, and what she thinks of Vel, is her decision to make. I don’t actually know what she thinks of most of us, she doesn’t say much, but what she does show to you is that she loves you dearly. Facing hard times is… something we all handle differently. It can be off-putting, or it can be scary when someone you love is hurt or upset or angry, but… that does not mean we give up on them.

Riff sniffles and nods.

Riff says: Okay…

Remnii smiles and wipes some tears away.

Remnii says: It is no person’s job to make everyone happy at once. There will be miscommunication, moments in which you feel helpless… that is part of living. Just like being a Death Adder, or flying with her. So, if she needs her space, we will be here for you in the meantime, and after. And her, if she wants it. But… know that you will be okay. Especially with her.

Riff nods.

Riff says: T’ank you, Remnii.

Riff gives Remnii a hug.

Riff says: I’m gonna go find mada.
Remnii says: That’s a good idea.

Riff goes to Seria on the other side of the camp.

Riff says: Um… mada?

He fidgets with his hands.

Riff says: I know you said you wanted to be alone, but… can I come and sit with you now.

Seria immediately just pulls Riff in for a hug, and Riff hugs her back.

Riff says: I’m sorry.
Seria says: Ya didn’t do anything wrong.
Riff says: I know, but… I don’t want ya to be mad at me. I know dat… I know dat ya are probably mad at Vel now because she drinks blood and stuff… but do ya think that’s a bad thing?
Seria says: I’m not upset about that, Riff.

Riff nods.

Riff says: Okay. Can I still be friends with her?

There is a pause.

Seria says: If you want, you can.

Riff nods.

Riff says: Okay. I’m gonna go to bed then, okay?

Seria nods, and Riff heads to sleep. The night is beautiful, the stars bright, and the moons large.

Uther finds Vel later that evening. She is largely keeping to herself, and he goes and sits against the tree with her.

Uther Menethil says: If I’m being honest… I didn’t think it was going to go that well.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yeah. That went… far better than anticipated. The, uh… exuberance that Riff had was… jarring.
Uther Menethil says: I can imagine. How are you feeling?

Vel leans her head back against the tree and tilts it slightly to look at Uther.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Well… two or three days of no sleep, and I’m exhausted already.
Uther Menethil says: I’m sorry to hear that. But you know that isn’t what I was asking.

Vel sighs heavily.

Velameestra Windrunner says: A lot’s going on.
Uther Menethil says: It is. And, not unlike me, you have a tendency not to ask for help even when it would be, well, for lack of a better word, helpful.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Honestly, Uther, I just don’t know what would necessarily help. Unless someone can just wave their hand and make everything alright. It’s just a matter of moving forward until we accomplish what we need to.
Uther Menethil says: That does seem to be the way of it, doesn’t it?
Velameestra Windrunner says: And truthfully, I… much like you were, I’m in a space where I just want to rip and tear nearly every member of the black dragonflight apart. But… that’s not what we do.
Uther Menethil says: We’ll have to get stronger first.

Vel closes her eyes for a moment, trying hard to roll them at the joke.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Uther, it’s hard for me to put it into words… what I feel, or have started to feel. And sometimes I worry that I am not going to be what you need, or what I need.
Uther Menethil says: And what is it that you think I need?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I… someone that can parse emotions better than I can, for one. I’m not… good at inspirational talks, or managing stress, or going through complex feelings and sorting out why someone should feel one way or the other, or… that’s really more Remnii’s department.
Uther Menethil says: Almost like all of us have our own strengths and weaknesses that compliment each other and work together to create an entity with more worth than the sum of its parts?

Vel just stares at Uther given the rapid-fire speed with which he had delivered the line. But then she smirks.

Velameestra Windrunner says: That was surprisingly succinct.
Uther Menethil says: It’s another bump in the road, Vel. We’re in a strange land, surrounded by uncertainty at best, and enemies at worst. As long as we’re out here, we’re all we have. Give them time. They’re realize that too.
Velameestra Windrunner says: To be honest, I’m not particularly upset that people are mad about… this. It’s about as much as I expected, and I’m anticipating more in the future. People are allowed to be mad.
Uther Menethil says: I know you well enough to know you aren’t concerned with others opinions of you. But… I would wager that you’re aware of the impact mistrust has on our chances for success here. Which is why I remind you to just give them time.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yeah… You know, things are much simpler if you can just lock yourself in a study for twelve hours a day.
Uther Menethil says: Yup!

Uther eases himself up from his sitting position at the base of the tree.

Uther Menethil says: But unfortunately, out here, we’re going to need to interact with people occasionally.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Arcane forbid.
Uther Menethil says: I’m not certain what this means for you anymore, but… try to get some rest, Vel.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I’ll probably touch base with Kilnar tonight. We’re overdue for a contact. And if I’m telling everyone else… I should best tell her as well.
Uther Menethil says: Excellent! Do give her my regards.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Will do. Thanks, Uther.
Uther Menethil says: Always, Vel.

Uther offers a smile and a nod before he heads off.

Tol’vas also approaches Wulf, who grunts as he sharpens his axe. Remnii is also accompanying him.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I told you before we should probably get ahead of this. The next full moon is about two weeks from now or so.
Wulf says: What does that mean?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: The full moon is dangerous for us… the curse will try to transform you against your will.
Wulf says: Oh. Is that so? Great. Fantastic. Which one should we worry about? The big one or the small one?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Elune.
Wulf says: Is that the big one?

Tol’vas looks at him.

Wulf says: Right. So this Elune will get in my head in a few weeks, and as a married man, I shouldn’t let that happen.

Remnii’s mouth is over her mouth trying to not laugh.

Wulf says: Right. So lets go find a nice convenient clearing where I won’t rip people to shreds or something.

The group goes off, and Uther catches up to them after he talks with Vel. Wulf looks to Tol’vas.

Wulf says: So. How does this work?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Well, for me it’s a bit easier. I learned how to shapeshift first, but, you… you can’t do that right?
Wulf says: No, not last time I checked.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Right, I just didn’t know. It’s triggered by stress, it’s triggered by rage, and if you’re pushed too far, it can happen to you.
Wulf says: How do you do it when you want to do it?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: You reach to where that rage bubbles over, and then just dive in.
Wulf says: That doesn’t seem too hard.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Changing is easy. Keeping your mind is the hard part. But it’s important to learn about the source. The power we draw from comes from the great wolf Goldrinn. You remember how Broll becomes a bear?

Wulf nods.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: He draws from a wild god. Goldrinn was another one, but he died. He was angry, always.
Wulf says: I think I can understand that.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Your curse isn’t your rage, it’s his.
Wulf says: Awfully kind of him to share.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: We took it without permission.
Wulf says: Now we have to deal with the consequences.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: That’s the nature of things.
Wulf says: Alright. Then show me how it’s done.

He gestures at Tol’vas.

Tol’vas makes it look easy as he transforms into a worgen

Wulf says: Oh, is that it? You just think, get bigger, and grow hair all over. Does it hurt? That looked like it hurt.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: The body kind of shuts down pain as you transform.
Wulf says: Good to know.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: The anger also kind of numbs you to anything.
Wulf says: Okay. Guess I’ll give this a shot.

Wulf turns away from Tol’vas and looks up at the moon. His muscles tense. The sound of his teeth grinding is almost audible as he enters a rage. As he does, with the moon bright overhead, his body starts to elongate. His arms grow larger, and his clenched fists turn into claws. His golden hair begins to grow longer and more shaggy and cover his body. It’s a beautiful gold.

He falls onto all fours, and his tail grows where there was none.

He looses a loud howl.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Uther, you brought your hammer right?
Uther Menethil says: Of course I did.

Wulf turns around and his bright green eyes look straight at Tol’vas, and he bares his teeth.

Remnii says: Uther, I have spells prepared to help calm him down.
Uther Menethil says: Wise!

A large hand gently grabs Remnii’s wrist, and it’s Broll.

Broll Bearmantle says: Let him do this. He must do this for himself.

The howl alerts the rest of the group. Samaara was already hidden nearby, as was Vel at the edge of the clearing. Ephemeral energy had started to coat Wulf's claws.

Tol’vas swings with the scythe as he triggers shillelagh, but Wulf grabs the scythe before it could connect. He recoils from it.

Wulf breaks through the rage for a moment, and then launches himself at Tol’vas. Tol’vas is able to dodge the first blow, but the second connects. However, the slash is not as effective as would be anticipated.

Uther opens his librum of justice and starts to read out loud.

Tol’vas uses calm emotions from the scythe as Wulf continues to slash and bite, but then a silvery light sheens off the scythe. Wulf howls in agony, but then fades into Wulf’s voice. But deeper.

Wulf says: What… what happened?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Well. You didn’t do it yourself… but you have yourself again.

Wulf pants, taking in everything. He shakes his head, and his form starts to shrink. The scythe has not stopped glowing. It looks different. The fang of the blade has a long crease in it, like a carving to the center. Vines had formed around it, encasing it in a semi-circle like a symbol of Elune.

There is a gentle hum coming from it, like an enhanced strength.

Wulf says: Well. That… went well… for my first time.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Yeah. First time I… it’s a bit murky, but I believe I killed at least four people?
Wulf says: Well, at least I’m doing better than you are.

Tol’vas smiles.

Wulf says: I felt a strange sort of clarity at the end. Whatever that scythe did. I think I understand. I don’t know what will happen with the full moon… but at least on my own terms, it won’t be so bad.

Tol’vas nods.

Wulf says: I think that’s enough excitement for the day. Besides, it seems we gathered a crowd. Sheesh.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Look at that, and no one got hurt.
Wulf says: Yeah. Yeah.

Wulf walks past Tol’vas and stops at Uther. He looks at the librum.

Wulf says: Dare I ask?

Uther closes the librum.

Uther Menethil says: It’s a book of immeasurable importance. It belonged to my father.

Wulf freezes.

Wulf says: ...Oh.
Uther Menethil says: Thought reading from it might assist in whatever you were going through.
Wulf says: I can’t say it did… but I can’t say it didn’t either.
Uther Menethil says: Whether it did or didn’t, I’m glad to see you triumph.
Wulf says: Yeah. Listen. I don’t…

Wulf shakes his head and dismisses whatever he was trying to say. He puts a hand on Uther’s shoulder and does a weird, awkward half smile, and makes eye contact for a second before walking past.

Wulf says: We got a busy day tomorrow.
Uther Menethil says: That we do.

The group heads back to camp, and Remnii approaches Seria.

Remnii says: Good evening Seria. If you need space, that’s fine, but if not tonight, I was wondering if we could speak.

Seria raises an eyebrow.

Remnii says: I will need a yes or no if that is okay… I will not bother you if you do not wish to be bothered.
Seria says: What do you want?
Remnii says: Beyond the magical clashes of life and death magic, or nature magic, I was… curious if you would tell me, but again you do not have to, as to… did anything else about the nature of Vel’s reveal bother you?
Seria says: For a bunch of people that are so big on trust, and then go around and hide somethin’ like that.

Remnii nods, and she sits.

Remnii says: Would you have wanted to be a part of that, Seria?

Remnii looks legitimately inquisitive, and like she doesn’t know the actual answer.

Seria says: What’s done is done.

Remnii nods again.

Remnii says: The reason that I bring this up to you is that I often feel sad that we do not know each other more at this point. You have trusted us in battle, and you have trusted us in a number of things in your life--like Riff, and your bond with him. It’s wonderful. Yet… this is no order, this is no anything, really, but I can guarantee you that after you have laid your life down for kingdoms of people you didn’t know… Vel would have told you if you had clued her in that you would have wanted to know. We know more about Tol’vas and what he believes than we know about you at points. Trust is earned, and I understand you are allowed to be mad, but I was… surprised you even came back from Zandalar other than for Riff. Personally, I’m sorry I kept it from you, it was not my secret to tell, but I actually did not think you cared about that or us to a degree. You show you do, but there is… a divide all the same.

Seria remains quiet.

Remnii says: Nothing can change overnight. Not everyone can be a crybaby like me.

She laughs quietly and stands up.

Remnii says: Seria, you are a good mother and someone who is valued in combat and as a travel companion… but if you could clue us in just a little in the future, that can be paid back in spades. I didn’t know you wanted anyone to trust you in the way Vel, Uther, and I trust each other. But you can only demand trust if you show it… I know nothing about you. Not beyond your love of your son. But, I hope we can forge trust beyond the battlefield in the future. Even if it takes time for this wound to heal. But thank you for listening. I know it’s late.

Seria continues to remain quiet.

Remnii says: I hope you have a good night.

Remnii heads off to go to sleep.

That night, Vel dreams Kilnar. Quickly enough, she sees the familiar visage of Kilnar appear. She looks over in Vel’s direction and smiles fondly.

Kilnar Goldensword says: Oh, Velameestra.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It’s been a bit since I checked in.
Kilnar Goldensword says: It’s wonderful to see you! How are things?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Eventful is the word for it, probably.
Kilnar Goldensword says: So I’ve heard thus far.
Velameestra Windrunner says: We’re currently in Mulgore with the tauren. I know Shara has been working her magic in one of their main cities, right now.
Kilnar Goldensword says: That’s fantastic news. And how goes the progress towards the assignments that you and your companions have taken? Towards seeking out the Guardian and navigating this strange political situation we’ve found ourselves stepping into?
Velameestra Windrunner says: We’re en route to meet Jarod Shadowsong likely tomorrow. We managed to locate him. So that’s something toward the political situation. But there have been… others that have emerged.
Kilnar Goldensword says: That’s wonderful news as well. Jarod was the war hero, correct?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes. The one that Remnii contacted.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Excellent. Excellent. I hope that this man will be able to assist you. I have no doubt he will be if he is half as influential as they tales have made him out to be.
Velameestra Windrunner says: That is ideal, yes.
Kilnar Goldensword says: And how are you, darling? You seem to have something on your mind. Anything you want to talk about?

Kilnar sits down on one of the benches shaped from the roots of the central tree in the glade--one which was a mirror of the tree that had stood above Vel’s grave in Northrend.

Velameestra Windrunner says: There have… been some things that have emerged that affect us more locally. Um. For the sake of keeping you informed. We found Arthas Menethil.

Kilnar cocks her head to the side.

Kilnar Goldensword says: I thought that was last crisis?
Velameestra Windrunner says: So did we. But… he’s here. Complete with the ramifications of what that means for back home.
Kilnar Goldensword says: I find myself a bit confused… was he not back there?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I’m not sure that’s him. I… developed a spell while we’ve been traveling, and a man that we found who had escaped the custody of black dragons… we were able to determine his true name was Arthas Menethil.
Kilnar Goldensword says: ...Huh.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I wasn’t sure if, perhaps, you had some contacts that might be more privy than we were.
Kilnar Goldensword says: That… is… troubling, yes. The notion that an imposter could be sitting rather effectively on the throne. This is news to me… but I have my ways. I will see what I can do. Esara is still operating in Lordaeron, along with your father and a few others whom I know I can trust. I’ve had to adapt since some of our friends have gotten themselves trapped on an entirely different world, but… you know how resourceful I like to be. I’ll get in contact with her, indirect as it may be. Perhaps we can do some subtle subterfuge. See what we can learn. Perhaps if we can notice any patterns or inconsistencies…
Velameestra Windrunner says: My main concern is the potential for a puppet king. We found an Arthas in the cavern as well, after all.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Yes, it’s hard to say if they found a very convincing body double. There could be more to it. Perhaps some sort of golem or simulacrum of some sort.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Seria was able to heal him. That is a complex simulacrum if that’s the case. We were also able to rule out a homunculus in that regard.
Kilnar Goldensword says: You’ve certainly been busy. I shall do some brainstorming. Did you find anything else about the real Arthas you’re traveling with?
Velameestra Windrunner says: His memories are locked behind a powerful modify memory spell. He has no idea who he is beyond what we’ve told him.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Is that so…
Velameestra Windrunner says: It’s likely anchored somewhere, though we’re not aware of how to locate said anchor.
Kilnar Goldensword says: That’s very interesting. And a very troubling notion. You said he has no memories of who he was before?
Velameestra Windrunner says: None before he escaped the black flight.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Those memories may very well be stored somewhere. Perhaps that’s where the anchor could be…
Velameestra Windrunner says: We were able to remove parts of it, and he does remember who his captor was. I’m going to try to get him to show me via dream in the near future.
Kilnar Goldensword says: That’s a fantastic idea. If you learn who it is, please inform me as soon as you can. Obviously, there will be discretion if it is someone we know. Or someone who is known. We can begin to learn more about the circumstances under which he was taken. But if those memories were removed, it’s possible whomever or whatever is impersonating him on the throne may be utilizing them to make it convincing.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Could they be linked in such a way?
Kilnar Goldensword says: There could be some sort of device or object this imposter is interfacing with. Perhaps he used it to make a convincing replication, or perhaps had his own memories replaced with the stolen memories of the king. Unfortunately, without a way to get closer and investigate with first-hand magic, that would be difficult to confirm. I suppose I could reach out to Lady Jaina, though I fear she would not be very receptive… but perhaps someone else. Much to think of, much to do. Hard to do on the other side of the world, but not impossible.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Especially with the disturbance in place, otherwise I’d be reaching out to certain people myself.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Of course. Don’t take any risks for the time being, but tell me if anything changes. I shall reach out some feelers and see what we can learn. Perhaps if fate is good we can get some answers for when we’ve wrapped up with our business on this continent.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It would be appreciated.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Of course! Was there anything else?

Vel had been resting with her hand on her mouth as they spoke.

Kilnar Goldensword says: You certainly seem to have something else on your mind, Vel, but don’t feel compelled to tell me.

However, it’s clear that Kilnar would certainly like to know.

Velameestra Windrunner says: ...also in the interest of keeping you informed. I… made a decision. One you would probably like to know about.

She lowers her hand, purposely speaking more opening so that the tip of her fangs are visible as she speaks.

Kilnar Goldensword says: A… decision, is it?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I picked my hill to die on.
Kilnar Goldensword says: And I get the feeling you’re not being facetious.
Velameestra Windrunner says: No.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Then you’ve been to Northrend again.
Velameestra Windrunner says: And I chose to become what some of our people have become. The living dead.
Kilnar Goldensword says: ...Well. I suppose that is one rather effective way to learn about what that’s like.

Kilnar’s eyes are flickering between maintaining eye contact and looking at Vel’s fangs. Once her gaze moved up and down Vel’s entire body, but she mostly seemed to be hovering on her fangs.

Kilnar Goldensword says: You didn’t think to, perhaps, consult me before making such a bold decision?

She seems to be rather perturbed.

Velameestra Windrunner says: ...To be fair, I don’t recall being told about the moon key ploy either before it happened, so this probably makes us even.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Oh. Velameestra. You…

The other elf laughs, the tone somewhere between amused and quite annoyed.

Kilnar Goldensword says: You’re a fast learner. But we already knew that.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I am learning from one of the best.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Alright, now flattery will get you places, Velameestra, but don’t think that means I’m going to simply give you this. But yes, you are correct. I suppose that makes us even. So, how was it, dying?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Absolutely terrible. I don’t recommend it.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Duly noted.
Velameestra Windrunner says: But… there are things we are learning that could potentially be applied to yourself and the others as well. It’s different, of course, but there are similarities.
Kilnar Goldensword says: An unexpected correlation. I will look forward to reading your report on that. So you’re truly a vampyr?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Straight out of the old storybooks. I’ve heard plenty of things… and I read over what you’ve learned, of course. Are you alright? You did travel through a desert last I was aware. You haven’t conflagerated yourself, have you?
Velameestra Windrunner says: No. The sun doesn’t burn. Not all of us, anyway.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Convenient. Well. Thank you for telling me, belated as it was.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Better late than never, as I’ve been told.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Then I trust the rest of your companions found out recently as well.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes. It turns out drinking holy water was not the best course of action.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Oh goodness.

She gives Vel a somewhat incredulous look.

Kilnar Goldensword says: No, I can’t imagine that would have been very comfortable.
Velameestra Windrunner says: But we’re dealing with things.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Well, do take care of yourself, Velameestra. I would like to scold you briefly in person once this is all taken care of, and you already said it’s not something you’d recommend, so please don’t get yourself killed for good.
Velameestra Windrunner says: That’s not the plan.
Kilnar Goldensword says: I’m glad to see you’re alright… and don’t worry, this secret won’t be spread about. Unless you irritate me, of course.

She offers a smile.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I wouldn’t dream of it.
Kilnar Goldensword says: You are a fast learner.

Vel smirks.

Kilnar Goldensword says: Well. Judging from your prior reports, you are also probably speaking with me because you’re unable to get any rest so, come, tell me what else you’ve been up to.

Vel takes the rest of the night to get Kilnar appraised of recent developments, and well as the various antics that Tae’shara had been up to. However, Vel does not tell her that Arthas is a worgen. Kilnar continued to seem a bit miffed by the reveal, but ultimately she would be fine.

June 10th

When the group awakes, the first thing they awaken to is a distant howling of winds. There are grasses and pollens and dust being blown by gales of wind. It seems the boon offered by Magatha had worn off, but it seems the stilled winds have returned.

Yona emerges from her tent as the group starts to head off.

Yona Windtotem says: Good to see you are all still here… I had the strangest dream. I thought I heard wolves howling… but a strange dream, perhaps, after being in the veil for so long. But I hope your rests were refreshing, and I wish you the best.
Remnii says: Thank you for your hospitality.
Yona Windtotem says: Hm. We will stay for a few more days so I can recover further, but I wish you the best. It seems the unusually mild weather of the day before has come to an end. Use caution.
Remnii says: Thank you. We will need all the help we can get.

Remnii looks out across the mesas.

Remnii says: I believe the mesa we need to go next is the very mesa we visited yesterday on the other plane, just on the material… I can still feel the Light guiding me that way.
Samaara says: We will need to be careful. It looks like some of the magic that had warded off the winds is gone, but as long as we’re careful, we can avoid the brunt of it. Depending on how we wish to scale it. We could try to climb… it would be safer perhaps, but the gales seem to come in bursts. If we are careful, we can maybe time flights… but if we were caught unawares, it would not be good to be separated.
Remnii says: That is not my area of expertise.

She looks to the druids.

Remnii says: What do you think?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: We could scale the mountain and carry people with us. Those that can’t climb well, at least.
Samaara says: I did prepare climbing gear for those that need it. It’s not enough for everyone, but for those that can transform into spiders or…

She looks at Vel.

Samaara says: Climb as well as them, it may not be necessary.

The group discusses a bit, and it is suggested that those that could turn into spiders could maybe make cocoon harnesses. Remnii also can levitate herself. However, the cocoon idea is vetoed, and Wulf and Uther instead choose to hang onto the druids.

While they are discussing, Vel makes her way over to Yona. Yona looks at her with a soft smile.

Yona Windtotem says: Greetings, my friend. I was wondering if you were going to approach me for words, or if I would be the one to speak to you.

Vel blinks, somewhat taken aback.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Um… yes, I was actually wondering… we saw an entity. In the Veil. I was wondering if you knew what it was.

She makes an illusory image in her hand, increasing its size so that it was a bit more easily seen by the elder tauren. It was the angelic entity that had spoken to Yona, seemingly inquiring if she was ready to pass on. The tauren looks at it for a moment.

Yona Windtotem says: You say you saw that beyond the Veil?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes. Right before we returned…
Yona Windtotem says: Curious, I don’t remember seeing it. Sorry. Wish I had more information for you. I have never seen a creature like that before in my life.

Vel pieces together that the modify memory spell the entity had used before they left--the one she had resisted--had likely affected the spiritwalker and seemingly took the memory of the creature from her mind.

Vel hums to herself and lets the illusion fade.

Velameestra Windrunner says: No matter. Just an idle curiosity.
Yona Windtotem says: Of course!
Velameestra Windrunner says: But… you said you were going to approach me?
Yona Windtotem says: I was. Nothing terribly important. I just wanted you to know that regardless of where your path takes you, and what trials and tribulations you have endured and will undoubtedly endure in the future, the Earth Mother will always still be there for you. Difficult situations as they are… they may seem hard, and it may feel as if there is no ground to walk on, but I want you to know that she still brought you to my child, and she still brought you to me. Were it not for you, I may not have been here. I may have given up. But I see your pain, and so does the Earth Mother.

Vel’s ears go back slightly, unsure of how to respond.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I’m… happy I could have helped.
Yona Windtotem says: She will see to it that your kindness is repaid one day.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Thank you.

Yona smiles again.

Yona Windtotem says: I won’t keep you any longer. Go, and may the wind be at your back.

Vel nods back to her, offering an appreciative expression, before she heads to the rest of her party.

The group heads off. They try to follow the best path they can to avoid the gusts. It takes a bit of time. During the first hour, about 45 minutes in, a surprise gale swoops through. The group hunkers down and waits them out, and they are able to hold on.

They go for another hour, but then they start to notice some hand holds that had already been made. They climb across the great mural they had seen from a distance, and another gust sweeps Remnii out. The shock almost knocks the concentration from Remnii’s grasp, but she is able to maintain it.

Samaara says: I got you Remnii! Hold on!

The group continues for another few hours, and Remnii is starting to lose her mana stores. Vel opts to use an upcasted telekinesis to continue pulling her up, and now that she had gotten significant practice, she opts to stand straight up as she walks up the wall, her hand out to continue pulling Remnii up.

However, Seria and Tol’vas start to see something shifting in the wind. It’s a vaguely humanoid shape for just a hint of a second. It almost looks like a cyclone. Tol’vas looks about, and he can see a small outcropping.

Tol’vas drops his bear form and starts to fall, along with Uther. Tol’vas grabs Uther and uses dimension door. They fall into a dimensional gate and land right on the outcropping. Uther grabs onto the wall.

A roiling creature starts to shoot forward, and spirals and spins as it turns toward Tol’vas. He holds his hand out and swings scythe through the air. The small air elemental blasts away in a silvery aura, and he holds the spell until the elemental is successfully banished.

Wulf says: ...You good?

Wulf shouts from over on Broll. They give them the sign of it’s all clear.

Uther Menethil says: Good work Tol’vas.

Another breeze goes by, and they both instinctively hold onto the wall again.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Sorry about that. Thought it would be good to take care of.
Uther Menethil says: Indeed it was. Shall we?

Tol’vas nods, turns back into a bear, and they continue climb. Unfortunately, it looks like the hour-long casting on telekinesis looks like it’s not going to be enough, and Vel continues to cast telekinesis twice more until they finally breach the cliff face.

It’s much chillier up here. Remnii is placed on the ground, and everyone takes a second to rest their aching muscles for those that were using them.

However, there’s no sign of Jarod.

Remnii says: I have one more thing I can try… I also prepared locate creature. I don’t know if that would be helpful, but it might be worth a try as I did not expect the divine intervention to work.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It wouldn’t hurt.

Vel also lights her lantern of revealing momentarily to cover that aspect as well.

Remnii says: If people want to rest, I can see what I can find in the meanwhile. However, after that, I will not be able to do anything else today. Also, Samaara, I am so sorry you need to deal with me on the daily basis.

Samaara is laying down on the grass, her eyes closed, and a small smile crosses her face.

Remnii uses the spell and extends her senses, but she senses nothing.

Remnii says: Nothing, I’m afraid.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Well. If he was anticipating us he may be veiled from divination magic.
Remnii says: That would make sense.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I suppose now is the time for tracking.
Remnii says: Well that would not be me.

The group starts to look around for any sign of someone passing by. Seria sniffs around a bit, looking about, and she starts to detect something unusual. It smells almost like a vinegary smell, like fermentation. It’s a strange scent she wasn’t expecting to pick up, and she follows it to the source, but she can still smell it. It’s earthy, like it may be underground.

Vel notes that a patch of earth near one of the larger stones in the area seems to be disturbed, like something was recently buried there. Seria had noticed the same near where she saw the smell.

Vel starts to dig a bit. Broll approaches.

Broll Bearmantle says: Did you find something?
Velameestra Windrunner says: There is something buried here. It was well masked.

Broll starts to help her with mold earth, and they start to see wicker. Like a basket. Vel pulls the basket out, and looks inside of it.

There’s food and drink inside it, including a kettle and a hempen-rolled pouch with flint and steel. Underneath is also some cut lumber. Vel double-takes at the large rock. It doesn’t look right. It looks more like… wood.

She inspects around it, and there are signs of it perhaps being… a hatch.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Broll… would you mind helping me move this?
Broll Bearmantle says: Alright.

They get their fingers under the lip and they start to lift, revealing a hole under the ground. Underneath it, wider than the stone, is a divot that goes out about 15-20 feet to make a reasonably sized room. It’s a shelter of sorts. There are two chairs that seem to be homemade, and a table that has simple eating materials like saucers and the like. In the corner, there are games or something.

Currently leaning back in one of the chairs is a night elf man. His feet are on a table, and his hands are back, and he seems to be resting. He winces as the sun shines down on him, and he squints up and looks up at Vel and Broll staring down at him. Remnii clip-clops over as well.

Jarod Shadowsong says: Well. It looks like you found me.
Remnii says: Good morning.

Jarod stretches and yawns and covers his eyes from the sun, and smiles.

Jarod Shadowsong says: Not gonna lie, that was faster than expected.

Jarod gets up and climbs up a small ladder. He waves to the gathered group.

Jarod Shadowsong says: Welcome to my home away from home. It’s nice to meet you Remnii, and the rest of you.
Remnii says: Good to meet you in person!

Jarod looks at the basket near Vel.

Jarod Shadowsong says: Oh, you found that too.

He looks at Remnii.

Jarod Shadowsong says: You didn’t happen to pick up anything else, did you?

Remnii nods and starts to dig in her bag. Tol’vas hands off the swiftthistle, and Remnii first gives Jarod the holy water.

Remnii says: If you use this in seven days, it should be good.

Jarod nods.

Remnii then pulls out the cloth.

Jarod Shadowsong says: Perfect!

Jarod takes the sheet and lays it on the ground, and puts the basket on top of it.

Jarod Shadowsong says: That tea swiftthistle makes is a great pick-me-up. Plus the water is a good treat for Bard. He’s gotten picky with his water in his old age.
Remnii says: Bard is doing good at your home.
Jarod Shadowsong says: Yeah, he normally does. Ah, one last thing!

Jarod goes and grabs a shovel, and starts to dig at the site Seria had found the smell.

Jarod Shadowsong says: This should be ready too. I think you will all love this. It’s an old recipe my mother used to cook back before the war.

It’s a fermented stew with thick slices of root vegetables, and he starts to prepare a meal.

Jarod Shadowsong says: There should be some bread as well if you all want to whet your appetites. Are any of you tea drinkers?

Remnii and Tol’vas raise their hands, and he hands them some of the swiftthistle tea. It’s delicious, and has a minty flavor to it.

Jarod Shadowsong says: You can keep the rest of the thistle. It’s easy enough to brew, and it’s a good pick up on the road. You don’t need to use blessed water… that’s for nostalgia.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I do owe a nice tauren lady some though.
Jarod Shadowsong says: Makes sense! It’s in high demand.

Riff leans over to Seria and speaks quietly.

Riff says: Mada… do you see the woman behind him?

Seria doesn't, but Riff can see the image of a woman hovering over Jarod's shoulder--likely one of the memories formed by the spirits of the mesa.

Those that drink the tea feel a strange, calming feeling. Jarod asks them about how they found him so quickly, and they explain in depth.

Jarod Shadowsong says: That’s quite impressive. Maybe you’ll be able to accomplish what you’re trying to do after all. How are all of your spice tolerances, out of curiosity?

He stirs the stew.

Remnii says: Good on my account!
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Doesn’t matter, I’ll wolf it down.

Jarod nods with a smile and starts to divy up the delicious-looking stew. Vel also takes a (small) amount, mentally relenting to get rid of what she consumed later. He also offers alcohol to anyone that wants it.

Jarod Shadowsong says: I hope you all liked it.
Remnii says: It’s quite good!
Jarod Shadowsong says: I haven’t had many guests up here, as you might imagine, and if you came through all the trouble to find me, it’s only right I treat you to some hospitality! But I know you didn’t come here to sip on alcohol and eat some stew, and I promised I would hear you out and do whatever I could if you made it up here. So I’m all ears. What do you need?

Remnii sits up and puts her bowl down.

Remnii says: We spoke at some length in the dream of the current state of… the draenei-kaldorei affairs.

Jarod’s brow furrows.

Remnii says: There are a number of… humans among them as well, that have been put into some kind of underground holding space. In this, what we are looking for, is not only a hoof or foot in the door, proverbially, but… I know you have been out of this for some time. Not only will we need the High Priestess Tyrande Whisperwind… she is a fearsome woman. I know her name from the whispers of the Legion alone. I know her companion Ash'alah was slain…
Jarod Shadowsong says: I heard as much when I visited.
Remnii says: I have packed enough diamonds to attempt a full resurrection.
Jarod Shadowsong says: Not easy magic.
Remnii says: Pending we can find Ash’alah… or rather, they can

She gestures to the druids and Vel.

Remnii says: My people and these humans are in trouble, and these humans are related to or important to Eastern Kingdoms. While we had one brush with the Sentinels in the Barrens, we only have so much to go on. My plans are loose as some of this counts on you, Jarod, whether it be an endorsement or otherwise… something is wrong. Our people should not be in conflict.
Jarod Shadowsong says: I won’t lie and say something didn’t strike me as odd. I only knew about it because… the Violet Star, about fifteen years back, it shined overhead and Shalasyr, my wife and I… we didn’t think much of it. We just thought it was a shooting star. A few years later… she passed. It was only because of that I went back to Ashenvale for the first time in thousands of years. To put her to rest with the rest of her sisters. It’s what she would have would have wanted, and what she asked me to do. She… her last wish was that I go back. She didn’t want me to be alone here, but after I saw what was happened, I didn’t want to fight in another war. That’s what would have happened. I saw some of your people.
Remnii says: I understand it cannot be easy for your people…
Jarod Shadowsong says: I fought demons. I fought many demons, and I fought people who fight with demons. Those who do their bidding do so with a single-minded vigor. An animosity against all life. The people I saw drug into the Barrow Deeps in chains…

Jarod shakes his head.

Jarod Shadowsong says: It didn’t seem right, and then you showed up. I believe you. I think something is going on, but I don’t know what it is.
Remnii says: I was able to commune with the Light, our guiding force, and the Legion is involved. Us being here does not bring good tidings for Kalimdor. The Legion has made landfall on the Eastern Kingdoms, and the high elves have been displaced, and they likely make war on the human kingdoms now. Broxigar’s people have been weaponized. That is where we are.
Jarod Shadowsong says: I had the privilege of knowing Broxigar. He was a damn fine warrior. Fearless as they came. He told me of the plight his people were under. It can’t be a coincidence if they’re involved in this too.
Remnii says: I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Jarod Shadowsong says: It’s alright. Ultimately, some part of me thinks that maybe you’re here because Shalasyr sent you. I went against her last wish, after all. She’s probably not happy. If you believe that the Legion is behind this, undoubtedly, the best bet would be to get to the source. Talk to someone important. The high priestess is a good first start. I would recommend Malfurion, but I don’t know if he’s returned.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: He hasn’t.
Jarod Shadowsong says: I was afraid of that.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: He’s lost in the Dream.
Jarod Shadowsong says: I suppose you could speak with the other druids, but there are other options. I have a sister… she’s the leader of the Wardens. I group of individual responsible for keeping the prisoners. The Barrow Deeps are her domain. She used to be a priestess until she took this role. I don’t know how good it’ll do if you try to convince her, but she’s someone you’ll have to deal with. My big sister has been everything but easy to talk to, but if you’re trying to free your people, you’ll have to go through her at some point.

Remnii is quiet for a moment.

Remnii says: Jarod… I am a stranger to this world, and nonetheless to your home.

She also looks to Tol’vas and Broll.

Remnii says: Yet… it is not the same feeling, but… the way the tauren speak of you, and the way many of your own people speak of you. There is a… I cannot tell you what to think of yourself, but the whole of you and your deeds, this quiet life included, all of it is greater than you are giving yourself credit for. I’m sure I’m not the first to say, but I sought your help as your name was one of the only ones I knew before I could speak the tongue of the Traveler.
Jarod Shadowsong says: I know what people say. I’ve been hearing it. But all I’ve ever done is what anyone would have done, but I’m glad I was able to make such an impact. It’s been all I’ve been able to do. It’s been a while, but… I can probably get you some help. I spoke with Shandris when I went back ten years ago. She and I, we knew each other back during the War. I… I think she had a bit of a crush on me then.

Tol’vas clamps his mouth shut.

Jarod Shadowsong says: She’s the leader of the Sentinels, as I’m sure some of you know. I could get you in contact with her, and maybe be able to attract Tyrande’s attention.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Jarod, who do you think sent us to find you?
Jarod Shadowsong says: I’m not sure.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Shandris told me to find you.

Jarod laughs.

Jarod Shadowsong says: I guess I probably should have guessed that. Do you know her?

Tol’vas nods.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I’ve known her a long time.

Jarod squints at Tol’vas.

Jarod Shadowsong says: Wait… do I know you?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: We… only met a few times.

Jarod smiles.

Jarod Shadowsong says: You were the kid that was always following her around, weren’t you?

Tol’vas laughs nervously.

Jarod Shadowsong says: Good to see you again. Forgive me, I don’t remember your name.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Tol’vas.
Jarod Shadowsong says: I’ll remember it this time.

He looks back to the group.

Jarod Shadowsong says: While I can help you, I dunno how much more help I’d be than an archdruid.

He gestures to Broll.

Broll Bearmantle says: I’m… commander Shadowsong, I’m not an archdruid… um… I’m an exile, after failures of my own kind.
Jarod Shadowsong says: Forgive me, with the antlers…
Broll Bearmantle says: I… was actually born with them.

Tol’vas looks at Broll.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: That’s a thing?
Broll Bearmantle says: Rarely… it’s said to be those who are naturally gifted… but I am not certain I have lived up to what they are supposed to suggest. But I’ve tried.
Jarod Shadowsong says: Apologies for the mistake. I can do what I can. I can pack my things. I can head back to Ashenvale, and I can meet you there. From there, I imagine it won’t be long before we find someone, or someone finds us, and I’ll see what I can do about getting you an audience with the high priestess. If that’s what you want to do, I’ll be ready when you are. Are you heading there now, or is there is other business?
Remnii says: The place we need to go is somewhere in the Southfury Headlands. There is another friend there.
Uther Menethil says: We seek a place called the Shrine of Dormant Flame.
Jarod Shadowsong says: Can’t say I’m familiar, but if you found me, it should be nothing.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I also want to meet with the druid circles in the north Barrens. Do you know a more precise location than the northern half of the Barrens?
Jarod Shadowsong says: I don’t leave Mulgore much. I know there were some near the ruins of an old highborne city called Then'Ralore.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: That helps a lot.
Jarod Shadowsong says: I’m sure if you head there, you’ll find your way. That’s a good idea. They may know more. But I’ll await you in Ashenvale, and I’ll find you. Put out some feelers, and see if I can learn more. But I’ll help in any way I can, because you’re right. The last thing the kaldorei need is more war, and if war is gonna come for us… they should fight the right people. And if they are half the people you are, Remnii, they aren’t the right people.
Remnii says: Thank you. I believe that will be the best course of action… I don’t know where we will go in Ashenvale. The Sentinels have seen us, and they will need to report back… once we go to Ashenvale, there is no going back, thus we should do the other things we want to do beforehand.
Jarod Shadowsong says: Take your time. There is a town a few hundred miles from the southern border. I’ll meet you at the border.
Remnii says: Are you always impervious to divination magic?

Jarrod digs into his leathers and shows a medallion.

Jarod Shadowsong says: Didn’t want to make it too easy. No need for it now.
Remnii says: But thank you, Jarod. It’s not just the action of one person that will cease this… but every step helps.
Jarod Shadowsong says: I hope mine do.
Remnii says: They already are.
Jarod Shadowsong says: At the very least, perhaps I can redirect my elder sister’s ire at myself instead of all you, for at least a moment.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Given some of the prisoners she has… I’m scared of her.
Jarod Shadowsong says: You have every right to be, but she’s a good person, even if she puts on a rough exterior. Just don’t tell her I said that.
Broll Bearmantle says: Forgive me asking, Commander Shadowsong.
Jarod Shadowsong says: Please, just Jarod. I haven’t been a commander in a long time.
Broll Bearmantle says: I’m… of course. When you hear so many tales, it’s strange to finally meet you.

Jarod laughs.

Jarod Shadowsong says: I hope I haven’t let you down too far.
Broll Bearmantle says: Quite the contrary. The tales of you and your wife have been fascinating. I’m sorry… but if you don’t mind me asking… how did she pass?

Jarod shakes his head.

Jarod Shadowsong says: She just did. I took her to a tauren healer and he said nothing seemed to be wrong. No diseases, no curses… she just… passed on.
Broll Bearmantle says: I see… I’m sorry.

Jarod nods.

Jarod Shadowsong says: Thank you. Well. Where we go from here is up to you. We can descend the mountain this evening. I have a path. If we go at twilight, the winds will be at their lowest. We should get to my cottage well before the sun rises. But if you prefer, we can rest here and head out tomorrow. Any of you that want can stay in the shelter. I don’t mind sleeping under the stars. But once you leave, I’ll take Bard and head off. I’ll be ready when you are.
Remnii says: I believe we should hunker here for the night, correct? Many of us are magically spent, myself included.

They opt to stay there for the night.

Tol’vas speaks to Remnii momentarily as she is pacing around the mesa before sleeping.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I had a thought, of sorts.

Remnii inclines her head.

Remnii says: Thinking can be dangerous, Tol’vas.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I’ve been told I shouldn’t do too much.
Remnii says: Oh no! That was just a joke!

Remnii’s mouth flaps.

Remnii says: But what can I help you with?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: As far as my own self control issues, there is a route I considered a few centuries back… of actually physically manifesting my own… I don’t want to say emotional turmoil, but that’s what it would be.

Remnii settles back on her hoofs and crosses her arms.

Remnii says: So the idea… I don’t know much of your history. I apologize, the last time we spoke, I may have not said things appropriately that… you struggle with your temper from time time?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Yes, since I can remember.
Remnii says: And the worgen affliction does not help too much.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: No, it intensifies it to degrees I am sometimes not prepared before.
Remnii says: After how I heard you talk to Wulf… you want to make manifest the anger that you feel inside into something you can fight?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Yes.

Remnii starts to pace, stroking an invisible beard.

Remnii says: I would…

Remnii chews on her lip.

Remnii says: I have concerns about that. I like the idea… but I would worry that in the fury that you may… if anger is uncontrollable for you, or has not been able to be tamed… which I still believe we can work together carefully on this… but… if you are not in the correct state of mind, your anger at the situations that brought you here… you remind me of a few of my friends far from here. If you are mad yourself, at any number of things, bringing all those things forward to fight, it can easily twist in your heart and mind to only incense you more. That would be my worry, that what is a good exercise in theory, would be something that could turn on you. If you’re not careful.

Remnii offers a weak smile. Tol’vas nods.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: It… would be a detox… but….

He mulls over what was said.

Remnii says: Well. My proposal would be that I would like to sit with you and come up with a plan of action. If you would be so kind at some point on this journey, before Ashenvale, so that we can show we are attempting to make strides. I would like to hear about the steps you have attempted to take in the past, and with that in mind, what kind of frustrations or barriers you have found yourself struggling with alongside those attempts.

Tol’vas shrugs.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I have about 700 years of trial and error.
Remnii says: That may inform me of what we can do differently. Because even with an application of a single spell, we learned you could speak in your pack form, when before you did not. That would be my thought first. Then, perhaps once you feel more grounded, then you can beat up your anger.

Remnii nods affirmingly.

Remnii says: It’s not a bad idea, you just need to divorce yourself from your pain. So we put a pin in this. What do you think?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I agree. That seems the best course of action.
Remnii says: Well. I believe we have had a few emotionally charged days. Perhaps once we are off this incredibly high mesa… we will begin then? If that sounds good? I want to make sure everything is locked down with Jarod first. He is going out of his way to help not only me, but Uther and Vel, and you and Seria by proxy.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Reasonable. An extra thing, we should perhaps drag Wulf into this too.
Remnii says: Yes. Well. Next we meet, we discuss with Wulf. Perhaps we can find a middling thing between both of you.

Tol’vas nods.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: People are built different.
Remnii says: I believe this was constructive.

Remnii gives a thumbs up and a tired smile.

Remnii says: It’s a plan then.

Tol’vas nods and walks off to rest and small talk with Jarod as a wolf. Jarod winds up talking about his wife a lot.

Vel opts to spend the night outside the shelter as she can’t sleep anyway, and spends some time just looking off the edge of the mesa.

As Uther is settling down for the evening, the stars are gorgeous. It doesn’t look that different from the skies of Lordaeron. As his mind wanders, Wulf speaks up.

Wulf says: Uther.

He gestures with his head behind him for Uther to follow. Uther gets up to follow after. They go to near the ledge and he looks up at the moons.

Wulf says: Hey…
Uther Menethil says: What’s on your mind?
Wulf says: A lot, if I’m being honest. I’ve been doing thinking… about everything you told me. About… the things that Vel’s told me… look, I know I don’t remember anything. I don’t remember… what I’m supposed to be, how I’m supposed to act, what it’s like to be a king, a father… a husband. But apparently I was all those things. And… a part of me thinks that couldn’t be the case, but neither of you have a lying bone in your body… so it must be true.
Uther Menethil says: I got that from you, you know.

Wulf chuffs.

Wulf says: I… don’t know. I don’t know how to be a father. Your father. I don’t know how to be Arthas. But that doesn’t change the fact it’s true. I don’t think I’m going to be good at it, I don’t think I’m going to be able to be the person you were telling me about, but I know one thing is for sure, and I don’t like… to lose. If this woman in red took my memories, and if there is someone out there parading around with my face pretending to be me… that’s not acceptable. So I don’t know if I will be able to be your father. But I guess, I can try.

Uther nods and he grips Wulf by the shoulders.

Uther Menethil says: You’ve protected me my entire life. And my sisters. My mother. You’ve protected Lordaeron since before I was born. I don’t need you to try and force yourself to be my father. You just are. And this time… I don’t need you to protect me. We’re going to do this together. We’re going to find who did this, we’re going to get your memories back, we’re going to go home, and we’re going to do what you have done, and what you’ve been preparing me to do. We’re going to protect our home, and our people.

Wulf nods.

Wulf says: Alright.

Wulf reaches forward awkwardly, and somewhat hesitantly, and pulls Uther into a hug. Uther hugs him back.

Uther Menethil says: I’m like you in so many ways… and just like you, I also hate to lose.

Uther pushes their foreheads together.

Uther Menethil says: Lets go win, dad.

Wulf nods, his head pressed against Uther’s.

Wulf says: Yeah. Lets.

The night falls. It’s peaceful, and no one bothers them this high up. At first light, the group starts to head off toward Jarod’s home. Jarod stays up all night keeping watch, and noting Vel also isn’t sleeping, he says she can go rest, but doesn’t press when she says she’s not tired. Instead, they just opt to exist in companionable silence for the hours of the night.
