Velameestra is the daughter of Lirath Windrunner in an AU depiction of the World of Warcraft story, where the Dark Portal didn't open until 40 years later.
When the Dark Portal opened utilizing the energy of the Sunwell in the heart of Silvermoon, the quel'dorei were fractured and chased from their lands. Many of them died in the process.
When a not-insignificant fraction of their people were raised into undeath, Velameestra joined their number, seeking to stand by them in their fight for their right to exist. This declaration ultimately put her in the crossfire of the Scarlet Crusade, and she suffered extreme torture at their hands that permanently cost her one of her eyes and left the mark of the Crusade branded upon her torso before she was freed and the organization was chased from Lordaeron.
Her importance amongst her people continued to rise as the world was sent into flux with the looming threat of the Burning Legion, and the sin'dorei—a nation of living and undead—sought their place in the world.
Velameestra is a scholar to her core with a natural curiosity and fascination with the world that is unfortunately often overshadowed by the extreme stress of the burdens on her shoulders. While frequently described as "cold", she actually cares deeply and simply has a resting demeanor that can appear callous at first glance.
She is deeply melancholic by her nature, and its rare to coax much more than a small smirk to her lips or a chuff to her breath, even when directed toward something she finds genuinely funny. She prefers listening or companionable silence, and is touch-averse to those she doesn't know or trust. However, to those she does, she can be quietly and intimately affectionate.
Rememberance, love, and respect for the departed—representative of Vel's respect for the deceased and her constant pursuit of aiding the dead in finding peace. She also used white roses as a base for a variety of roses she developed that feed upon anima.
Feminity, love, and grief—representative of Vel's melancholy and deep love for those she cares about, as well as the guilt and grief she carries for the fate that befell her people. She also used white lilies as a base for a variety of lily she developed that feed upon the remnant anima found in corpses.
Resilience, eternity, sentimentality—representative of Vel's affiliation with winter and her fixation on memory and tendency to hold tightly to gifts given to her so that she can remember the memories attached them. Like winter's kiss is a frozen flower, memories in turn are frozen in time.
Healing from trauma, transition and change, death and mourning—while Vel wears dark raven feathers on some of her outfits, her raven form is specifically a white raven and many warlocks empowered by her gain white raven familiars. Some of her spells manifest as a spectral white raven with a skull head, and she is fond of the deeper symbology of the raven due to the kinship with death they have, and the kinship between mourning and healing.
Patience, illusion, secrecy, and the web of destiny—Vel finds beauty in the intricate details of a spider's web and kinship in them as patient hunters and schemers, but also misunderstood creatures. She weaves many webs and maintains many threads in her goals, and yet is able to remember the purpose of each one.
Protection, guidance, death and the underworld—as a vampyr, bats are synonmous with Vel's existence, though the themes of guidance and death serve as representation of her Purpose in aiding the dead in either resting or finding new Purpose in undeath.
Intuition, growth, and the spirit of a loved one returned—one of Vel's many forms is a white moth or a swarm of white moths, and this is ultimately one of the gentler forms she can take as moths are harmless creatures that can be guides to the light, and therefore truth. She has used it to check in on those who she doesn't wish to alert to her presence, and white moths flitting in her vicinity could be seen as lost spirits flocking to her as a guide.
Silence, sadness, struggle, reflection, and renewal—winter is Vel's favorite time of year and also representative of her magic being primarily frost-aspected. It ties in with her love of ice skating and aurora borealises, and also is a symbol of her melancholy as well as the chill that protects new life.
Eternal love, unbroken bonds, connection, and strength—chains manifest in Vel's undead-themed transformations as a symbol of her ties to her Purpose and the unbreaking bond that exists as a result. Her chains are normally spiked, which in turn represents the personal struggle of continuing to carry on despite their weight, a struggle she finds to be worth it.
Sacrifice, transformation, passion, and emotional intensity—as a vampyr, blood is a source of life and existence to Velameestra, and is also a symbol of passion, sensuality, and intensity. It's deeply symbolic to the san'layn and the sin'dorei, because of the losses they sustained, but also what they have become.
The crimson king of the sin'dorei, and the first of Vel's lovers. She and Kael have a very storybook romance built on mutual support and devotion, and while they have their disagreements, they rarely argue. Kael describes Vel as his muse and the woman that makes all of his dreams come into fruition—dreams that are just as much her own.
Also involved in a relationship with Kael'thas, Rommath is a devoted partner, though one he is the first to admit is difficult to love. He is prone to argue and can be stubborn and arrogant... but he genuinely cares and goes out of his way to make unlives easier in any way he can find. Vel possesses a soft gentleness he desperately craved, and he has difficulty shaking the fear that what the three of them had created is just a dream he might one day wake up from.
The Rider of War of the Ebon Blade, and the first sworn of Vel's death knights, she and Victor have a very knight-and-lady relationship that is built upon their mutual affection that grew throughout their adventures. While their relationship is non-sexual due to Kael's preferences, neither of them mind due to their asexual-leaning dispositions, and they are content to show their affection through kissing and simply holding (and sometimes a little bit of feeding as a treat).

Velameestra is asexual and as a result doesn't experience sexual attraction in a conventional sense. Her interest in sexual activity is entirely as a bonding experience between herself and her partners, as well as a safe space to flex different dynamics of control. She tends to be a dominant-leaning switch, though ultimately craves being able to relinquish control. Her sexual relationship is exclusive to Kael'thas and Rommath, while her relationship with Victor is now deeply romantic, but ultimately non-sexual.
