Mirish was an impossibility. Her mother, Xishme, became gravid due to a human bard—something that shouldn't have been possible—and the combination of her patriarch not believing such a ridiculous claim and Xishme's refusal to smash the egg that resulted when it was born resulted in her being exiled from her clan. Mirish's egg was laid in the small exile village of Atrux Vhir, which was unequipped to care for an egg. Mirish's egg fell cold, and Xishme begged the aid of an esoteric mage named Markus who also lived in the village.
Markus called upon his patron, the enigmatic Raven Queen, to spare the unborn hatchling, and Mirish was able to hatch—though touched by the queen of the Shadowfell that had given her a second chance at life. Her shadow had a mind of its own, and her scales were touched with darkness, but she was alive in every definition that mattered. Markus took her under his wing as readily as her mother, and with their joint tutelage she grew to be a skilled polearm wielder and a competent mage who swore herself to the service of the entity that had saved her life.
As war against Unther settled into the borders of Tymanther, an unexpected visitor arrived: an aasimar named Cassilira, who claimed to be her half-sister and was bearing a letter from their absent father to meet him in Elturel. Mirish agreed to accompany her newly found sibling on a quest to collect all the other bastards Cardinal Whitefield had left behind, in hopes of also finding where Markus—who had disappeared several months prior—had gone.
What she didn't expect was such a journey would lead her and her half-siblings straight to hell.
Mirish is a calm woman that is aware of her surroundings but ultimately goes with the flow and doesn't spend much time thinking of how things could possibly go wrong—after all, that was how to doom it to occurr. Her emotions are fairly muted due to a mixture of her nature and the training she underwent with Markus's tutelage, which allows her to keep a level head even under times of extreme stress. While she has fears, one thing she doesn't fear is the unknown, as the easiest way to vanquish such a foe is simply to learn.
She is very community-minded and is inclined to help even strangers, though there is sometimes a selfish angle to her approach as the stories they share of tragedy can spawn memento moris that she can gift to the Raven Mother that saved her. However, she is of the belief no one is truly unselfish, and what ultimately matters is the deeds done instead of the motive behind them. Tragedy, after all, always exists... but it can only exist if there is also good to aspire to.
