Klauth, otherwise known as Old Snarl, was an ancient and powerful great wyrm.
History
Tyranny of Dragons
Klauth had seemingly allied himself with the Cult of the Dragon and specifically had a relationship with the Red Wyrmspeaker, Severin Silrajin. The Red Wymspeaker rode upon his back in a show of power when Klauth was able to pierce through the dragonward mythal around Waterdeep and get as close as the city walls, and Klauth made his alliance clear when Severin appealed to the members of the Queen's Rout council to just surrender peacefully to the Cult of the Dragon.
He expressed his disappointment that the "little mice" opted to not open fire upon his arrival and instead gave Severin the chance to speak his piece, as it meant he did not have the opportunity to display his strength, but the terms of surrender were ultimately rejected and Klauth and Severin left with the answer.
