Protanther was a powerful gold dragon who once held the title of the King of Justice, but ultimately resigned from this post in order to form a council of metallic dragons.

History

Tyranny of Dragons

Protanther gathered metallic dragons of all varieties in the Nether Mountains where they were discussing what would be done about the Cult of the Dragon and the resurrection of Tiamat. Protanther himself believed the dragons should operate swiftly to burn as much of the cult as they could before they were able to get further in their plots.

When the Spellforged arrived to appeal to the dragons for their aid, the concession that Protanther required in order to consider allying with the mortals was to acquire an apology from the elves for the creation of the Dracorage Mythal. When the Spellforged agreed to such a concession—as well as those of the other great wyrms—so readily, he was surprised, but begrudgingly relented that he would not engage in an immediate all-out assault on the Cult.

Furthermore, he accepted the Spellforged's further offers that the metallic dragons would be informed of any chromatic lairs left abandoned due to the death of their owners, and that the Red Wyrmspeaker, Severin Silrajin, would be delivered to the great wyrms if he was able to be taken alive.

Following the discussions, Protanther offered to give the Spellforged a vision that enabled them to commune directly with the god Bahamut, as the platinum dragon wished to speak with the heroes that were leading the charge against Tiamat. When the mortals returned, Protanther was approached by Izadora Laska, who informed him that she had received a Bahamut's blessing in her question to become a dragon herself. While Protanther was initially annoyed at such a presumption by a moral, Izadora's insistence that she had approached him with the intention of learning from him as he would be the hardest teacher appeased the ancient wyrm enough to relent to such a proposition.

He promptly started visiting Izadora in her dreams so that he could offer his rigorous mentorship regardless of where she was.
