Approach of Imminent Mortality
In the quest to appease the restless dead, some soul-seers make take on a path of embodying the fear of death. To them, there exists no better way to manipulate the living and dead than through the reminder that they inevitably cease to exist on this mortal plane. These soul-seers are called Aspects of Mortality, instilling terror and dread within those who block their path to appeasing their communed spirit while reminding the world that death is a universal constant.
Dreadful Reminder
Upon taking this approach at 3rd level, your strikes instill deathly fear within the hearts of your foes. Upon dealing damage to a creature, you can force them to make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, they suffer one of the following (your choice), which lasts until the start of your next turn:
- They become frightened of you.
- Any hit points restored or temporary hit points they gain are halved.
A creature who succeeds this save has advantage against this saving throw for 1 hour.
Death's Stare
Also at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in either the Intimidation or Insight skill (your choice). If you make ability checks with these skills against creatures that are missing hit points, your proficiency bonus is instead doubled.
Wails of the Dead
At 6th level, you can use the souls of the recently deceased to frighten your enemies. As a bonus action, you can release one of your tethered spirits. Doing so causes any creatures of your choice within 30 feet of you that can hear you to make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, they are frightened of you for the next minute. A creature can repeat this save at the end of each of their turns, ending it early on a success.
A creature who fails this save and was already frightened of you instead takes 1d10 psychic damage at the start of each of their turn while you are in line of sight.
Once you have used this feature, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest. You can regain a use of this feature by expending a spell slot of 1st level or higher.
Aspect of Terror
At 10th level, you bring the fear of death to any creature you encounter. Creatures immune to being frightened instead have advantage on saving throws against being frightened by you, so long as their Intelligence score is 3 or higher. If the creature is undead, you ignore this Intelligence score limitation.
Life Flashing Before Your Eyes
At 14th level, you can kill creatures through sheer fear alone. As an action, you force a creature of your choice within 60 feet of you that can see you to make a Wisdom saving throw and suffer one of the following (your choice):
- They take 10d10 necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one.
- On a failed save, they are stunned until the end of your next turn.
A creature has disadvantage on this saving throw if they are frightened by you.
Once you have used this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
