You send negative energy coursing through a creature that you can see within range, causing it searing pain. The target must make a Constitution saving throw. It takes 10d8 + 30 necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. A creature reduced to 0 hit points by this damage dies.
A living creature killed by this spell rises at the start of your next turn as a zombie, skeleton, or other CR 1/4th undead of your choice that is permanently under your command, following your verbal orders to the best of its ability.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 8th level or higher, the damage increases by 2d8, and the CR of the undead increases by 1 step, for each slot level above 7th.
