Califax is a Keeper of the Grove and served as the primary jailor of Illidan Stormrage deep in the depths of the Barrow Deeps until the Betrayer was freed by Uther Menethil and his companions.

Chapter Four: Homecoming
Califax was one of the final obstacles that stood between Uther and his companions and the freeing the Betrayer from his prison. While Uther and Remnii attempted to appeal to him to allow the party to release the Betrayer without further incident, Califax only relented that he would not kill the group for their misguidance as they seemed to genuinely believe what they were doing was right. During the fight that resulted, Tol'vas Moonshadow managed to banish Califax back to the Emerald Dream, but the keeper returned to the material plane soon after--using the banishment as an opportunity to retrieve reinforcements. However, he arrived moments too late, and Velameestra Windrunner managed to teleport the party as well as Illidan, Medivh, and Kor'vas Bloodthorn to safety.
