Dragonleaf Tree

Dragonleaf trees produce drakenuts, and drakenuts have vastly different qualities based on the color of tree.

Red

Leaves a brilliant crimson that sparkles in the sun, with subtle golden veins. These trees have preference for temperate climates, but are capable of growing wherever life may be found. The roots of a red dragonleaf tree will quickly and efficiently cycle nutrients, putting out more back into the soil then it takes in itself. Red dragonleaf seeds also produce more nuts than any other variety of tree, though most end up being gobbled up by the wildlife that lives within them.

Red drakenuts are the only edible variety, and are incredibly nourishing. They are extremely useful when ground up and added to healing potions, and often give them their bright red color.

Green

Vivid, glittery verdant leaves, with spirals in their bark tinted a mossy green. When a green dragonleaf tree grows, a twin will grow in the Emerald Dream. This connection might foster a symbiotic relationship with a dreamvine plant, which favors the green dragonleaf above all other plants, that may cause the dreamvine to grow on the plant in the waking world. They are excellent trees to nurture druid groves or dryad trees.

Green drakenuts are poisonous when consumed, but are very useful in medicines for sleep aids and numbing pain when used with care.

Bronze

Their warm golden leaves shimmer slightly, and dissipate into sand when they fall to the ground. Preference for arid terrain, such as deserts or mountains. They grow quicker than most other dragonleaf trees, and some have been able to sprout into maturity overnight. They also can go infinite, their leaves turning a cool silvery cobalt instead. It is unknown what causes a tree to turn this way, but if one tree in a grove makes the change, it will spread to others. Sitting under a bronze dragonleaf tree, and being doused with their sand, may cause deja vu, or make one recollect memories from another timeline.

Bronze drakenuts when consumed cause a being to accelerate or decelerate in age at random, and may cause effects similar to haste or slow. They can be processed to aid in memory or in longevity potions.

Blue

Leaves of botanical blue that are slightly crystalline in texture. These leaves may display arcane patterning at an advanced age. They have preference for cold climates with long winters, but also can thrive in regions where the leylines are exposed. They drink up the wild energies of these leylines and dissipate them harmlessly.

Blue drakenuts form akin to arcane crystals. These nuts may be ground up to be used in magic ink and other magic items.

Black

Leaves of black, with red-orange or violet coloring along the leaf veins. As it ages, the bark grows black as though it has been charred, and cracks in the bark form and appear as though there is lava underneath it. Extremophiles with a preference for heat, be it dry or wet, and terrain such as deserts, wetlands, and volcanos. It is known to be stubborn, and to grow where most other plants might struggle.

Black drakenuts are extremely flammable, and can explode if not handled properly for trees in arid climates. If processed they can be used to create black powder and fireworks.

Nether

Transparent, almost glassy, leaves with differing shades of pinks, violets, indigos and teals, with veins that may differ in color. As these are a new variety, the colors have yet to become consistent and it’s possible they might never. They have subtle traits of other dragonleaf tree varieties. They grow quickly like bronze, produce crystalline seeds like blues, and grow a twin in the ethereal plane similar to green.

Nether drakenuts are still being studied, but they can be consumed or crushed for a wild magic effect.

Primal

The original dragonleaf tree. In many cases an ordinary tree, until it is exposed to forces from the inner planes. As the tree grows, it shifts in relation to the force it was exposed to, and will produce nuts that share that influence. These trees were created by the Titan Keepers to aid in ordering Azeroth's inner planes. When the dragons were ordered, Freya shaped into the cloud trees followed by the five original varieties.

Cloud

A prototype of the original dragonleaf tree that grow in the Veil of Eternal Blossoms. They are always in bloom and known to grant visions.
