Moonpetal Lily
The Moonpetal Lily (also known as Moon Lily, Lunaleta, and Stillwater Lily in the Eastern Kingdoms) is a large, slightly magical, lily that grows by sources of fresh water, and are both used for food and medicinal purposes. They are present all over Azeroth, but are most abundant in areas of kaldorei settlement such as northern Kalimdor and the western Broken Isles.
Moonpetal lilies have six-petaled flowers that are most often white, but can be found in a variety of colors, like purple, yellow or black. The petals of the flowers curve downward, causing them to be shaped like crescents.
Pre-Sundering folklore about the flower depicts it, as well as other lily varieties, as a gift from Elune. These flowers in particular are revered for their innate purification magic, incredible versatility, beautiful appearance, and lovely scent.
They purify toxins from the bodies of water they are planted by. So many are usually planted by lakes, ponds, wells. They are an especially common sight around moonwells.
One of the most prominent medicinal uses for these plants is as an antidote. The bulbs can be mixed into a medicine that withdraws toxins from the body. This medicine has a short shelf life, so must typically be made fresh to be potent.
The flowers, buds, shoots, and bulbs are also commonly used as food in many kaldorei dishes and can be cooked in a variety of ways. The petals and buds can be candied, dried, or used fresh in salads. The bulbs can be boiled in stews or grilled alongside fish, spider, or deer. The shoots can be chopped up and used to add a peppery/garlic flavor to a dish.
The petals and flowers are also used in Elunite rituals.
Bulb harvests happen in the winter, when their bulbs are dividing. One half of the bulb is kept as the harvest, and the other is replanted to grow in the spring. The bulbs can then be stored for long periods of time.
