Artificer: Archivist

Original Source: Unearthed Arcana: Artificer

Tool Proficiency

When you adopt this specialization at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with calligraphy supplies or forgery kits. If you already have these proficiencies, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan's tools of your choice.

Archivist Spells

Starting at 3rd level, you always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Archivist Spells table. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they don't count against the number of artificer spells you prepare.

Artificer LevelSpells
3rdcomprehend languages, dissonant whispers
5thdetect thoughts, locate object
9thsilvery barbs, tongues
13thlocate creature, psychic lance
17thlegend lore, modify memory

Information Overload

As an action, you can try to magically overload the thoughts of one creature you can see that is within 60 feet of you, channeling a jumble of information into the creature. The creature must make an Intelligence saving throw against your spell save DC. The target takes 1d8 psychic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a success. If the creature fails the saving throw, the next attack roll against it before the end of your next turn has advantage, as it is temporarily too distracted to defend itself well. The damage increases by 1d8 when you reach 5th level (2d8), 11th level (3d8), and 17th level (4d8) in this class.

You can spend mana up to twice your proficiency bonus to increase the overload's potency. For every 2 mana you spend, increase the damage of the ability by 1d8. You may choose to spend this mana after the saving throw has been made.

Librarian

Also at 3rd level, through extensive reading or travel, you have a wide variety of skills. You gain proficiency in two skills of your choice. Then, choose two skills you are proficient in. You gain expertise in the chosen skills.

Library Network

At 5th level, you've learned how to use your artifices to access minds, both to communicate and to harm. You gain the following benefits:

Magical Telephony. Any creature holding one of your upgraded items can communicate telepathically with any other creatures carrying another upgraded item. This two-way communication can even cross planar boundaries. If the item requires attunement, the creature must be attuned to it to use this ability.
Literary Criticism. When you make a psychic damage roll for an artificer spell or for Information Overload, you gain a bonus to the damage roll equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum bonus of +1).

Archival Authority

At 9th level, you gain additional mana equal to half your Intelligence score (rounded down).

Additionally, your skill at research is uncontested. When you take the Research downtime, you do not need to spend gp for the resources, and you may add your proficiency bonus to the Intelligence check you make. You may still spend additional gp to increase this bonus to a maximum of +6.

Additionally, you can gain more lore on resounding success. Consult the table below if the result of your check exceeds 21.

Table: Bonus Lore
Roll ResultLore
21-25You learn four pieces of lore.
26-30You learn five pieces of lore.
31+You learn six pieces of lore.

Information Velocity

At 15th level, you are able to receive and transmit more information than ever before.

Mental Breakdown. If you spend at least 7 mana to empower Information Overload, and the target fails the saving throw, the creature is stunned until the end of your next turn.
Infoportation. As an action, you turn into pure information, teleporting you to an unoccupied space within 300 feet of you, or to a space within 5 feet of an item bearing one of your artificer infusions, where you physically reappear.

Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest, unless you spend 3 mana to use it again.
