May 7th
The party was escorted to the covered wagon upon approaching the caravan through the desert, and emerging from the carriage was the (surprisingly) familiar faces of Nazmin and Shimaa, the two entertainers at the Cantrips & Crows tavern in the underbelly of Dalaran.
Nazmin Farram says: Of all the people I expected to find in the desert, I did not expect it to be you.
The guards seem to be surprised and speaks to them in their native tongue, which Remnii and Vel can currently understand.
Desert Guard says [Lisan Alramal]: Your highnesses, do you know these people?
Nazmin Farram says [Lisan Alramal]: Not personally, but we did meet them sometime late last year on our last tour.
She looks back to the group.
Nazmin Farram says: What brings you to the midst of the Tanaris Desert?
Remnii says: Perhaps the longest story you would hear in some time. Thank you for seeing us, your highnesses.
Shimaa Farram says: It’s quite alright. No need for formalities, as you are hardly one of our subjects, after all.
Nazmin Farram says: Do you need anything? The desert can be harsh.
Remnii says: First off, I believe… if you follow the same calendar on this side of the world, what day is it?
Nazmin Farram says: Unfortunately our people have not followed the King’s Calendar for some time. I have a vague familiarity…
Remnii says: How far are we from the new year?
Nazmin Farram says: It has been several months. I cannot tell you exactly, but I’m sure someone at Gadzetzan can fill you in.
Remnii says: We weren’t particularly supposed to come out on this side. We didn’t know where we would end up… but we are not prepared for the desert as a whole or, much of this.
Nazmin Farram says: You must be careful. You are close to Zul’farrak, and the sand trolls would not take comfort in your presence.
Remnii says: We already met them.
Nazmin Farram says: Well… you are alive at least, that is good.
Uther Menethil says: How difficult would it be to secure passage back to the Eastern Kingdoms?
Nazmin Farram says: I suppose it depends on how much coin you have, but once again, the cartels that own Gadgetzan have many vessels, you should be able to secure passage.
Remnii says: Perhaps first we should attempt to make our way to this Gadgetzan, wherever that is, and try to get our bearings.
Nazmin Farram says: On foot it is about a half a week east of here. I must say, I would be curious to hear your story of how you ended up here. I would invite you back to our home, but I don’t think the Shah would appreciate outsiders.
Uther Menethil says: I could only assume your home is not in a similar direction?
Nazmin Farram says: It is not, no. We are returning after our tour.
Shimaa Farram says: And to dismiss all the suitors our brother has collected for us.
Nazmin Farram says: And to deal with matters. But no, we are heading southwest. That is where the oasis my people should be at this time of year is.
Remnii says: Your kindness is appreciated, either way.
Nazmin Farram says: It is what I believe you are owed for the entertainment you provided us. Perhaps a more formal introduction. Nazmin Farram, and this is my sister Shimaa. It’s a pleasure. A warning. Should you encounter any of the men of the other Shahs, they would not treat you with such kindness. Many of the others… will not take kindly to your passage. My brother is unique among the Shah, and not well liked because of it.
Uther Menethil says: Alright. So three days trek across hostile, unfamiliar territory. On foot.
Shimaa taps Nazmin on her shoulder and they converse in their native tongue for a bit.
Shimaa Farram says [Lisan Alramal]: You don’t think we can escort them back? They have likely never been to a desert.
Nazmin Farram says [Lisan Alramal]: The Shah will expect us soon. It’s bad enough we have been apart from our sisters for so long.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I can summon some steeds… it may be nonstop casting, but it’s doable.
Nazmin Farram says: You can conjure such magics? That’s impressive.
Vel nods.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It is a straight shot to the east, then?
Nazmin Farram says: You’ll find it. The goblins call it the jewel of the desert… that is… up for debate, but it is unmistakable. You’ll see it from far away. I would ask for something in exchange, however. What are all of your names? I don’t believe I caught them. I may take some inspiration from these joint encounters.
The group introduces themselves as well.
Nazmin Farram says: Menethil… that is familiar.
Nazmin and the others discuss for a moment.
Nazmin Farram says: That is the name of one of the kingdoms, yes?
Uther Menethil says: Well. The kingdom is Lordaeron, but the royal family is Menethil, yes.
Nazmin and Shimaa bow.
Nazmin Farram says: It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance, your highness.
Uther Menethil says: A tremendous pleasure to meet you as well.
Nazmin Farram says: I would again offer to bring you with us, a formal dignitary may crack our brother’s exterior, but it seems you are in a hurry. Judging from the context clues, you seem to be seeking civilization for the first time in a while. Please, let us break fast together. It’s important to keep up strength in the desert.
Uther Menethil says: You are too kind. We would happily accept your offer.
Nazmin Farram says: Consider this a belated purchase of drinks. I would have done so many months ago, but unfortunately circumstances tore us apart before we could.
The guards go and get some delicious food and crystalline water. In the meanwhile, Vel works on summoning the phantom steeds while she is eating.
Remnii says: Speaking of meeting, I have a feeling I know the answer, but have you ever encountered anyone that looks anything like me?
Nazmin scratches her chin but shakes her head.
Nazmin Farram says: No. There are many people at Gadgetzan, but never one quite so exotically ravishing as yourself.
Remnii says: Oh. Thank you.
The caravan also gives the group some soft white cloths to help keep the sand out of everyone’s faces.
Nazmin Farram says: We did not stay in Gadgetzan long, but there were many new faces and creatures. So if you are to find any of your people, perhaps that would be a good place to look.
Remnii says: I will. Thank you.
Nazmin Farram says: Besides the wandering kingdoms, it is the closest thing to civilization outside the Farakki trolls, after all. But, we wish you the best of luck on your journeys. May the next time we meet be an even further blessed and entertaining gathering.
Uther Menethil says: We appreciate it. Good fortune on your travels as well.
Remnii says: I hope to meet you again someday.
Nazmin Farram says: May the oasis guide your way.
The caravan starts to move out while the group mounts up on the phantom steeds, and the invisibility on Seria drops.
Uther Menethil says: We shouldn’t tarry long.
Remnii says: And yet, if anyone starts to feel lightheaded or is suffering under the heat, we need to take precautions. This kind of environment can be draining on the mind and body. We’ve come this far, so we should continue taking care of ourselves.
She looks specifically at Vel and Uther.
They mount up and start to head off. It’s not fun. It’s very hot, and Vel is casting virtually nonstop to keep the phantom steeds going.
In the early hours of the morning, they pass a large pyramid that had been erected long ago. The structure is made of massive bricks, and it looks like it’s been abandoned for quite a long time.
By the last two hours, Elissa is starting to slow down quite a bit, and Remnii and Vel are also rather tired, but they manage to go for the full 8 hours of travel.
They manage to find a dune sticking out of the waste as the night starts to roll in. There are a few beasts around, but none of them seem to bother them. But there is a large and long skeleton that is half buried in the sand.
They go to investigate the interior of the skull as a potential camp site. There is an old camp site, with the body of a humanoid corpse wrapped in cloths. Vel examines it closer, and it seems it wasn’t killed by anything--likely the humanoid died of natural causes.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Well, we could camp here for the night. It’s at least protected.
Remnii says: That would be wise.
Elissa looks very tired and has been shedding her armor.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I can erect a tiny hut for the night as well. The temperature should be more agreeable.
Uther Menethil says: Excellent.
Vel casts the spell and everyone settles in for the night. Before getting into the hut, Seria tries to scry on her dad again. However, as the water becomes clearer and clearer, it then freezes, and melts back to solidness. But it didn’t have the same result as when she tried to scry on Victor--it just failed.
It’s insisted that Vel doesn’t keep watch that night given she’s the one that’s ensuring they are getting out of the desert, and she curls up with Arkha’din to sleep. Elissa also winds up cuddled with Vel.
Remnii tries to dream Velen given they are actually on Kalimdor at this point. Her mind goes blank, and when she opens them, she’s in her dreamscape, but it’s not what she was expecting. It looks to be her old bedroom when she was living with Velen, combined with her normal dreamscape.
And there’s a tall figure at the foot of the bed.
It’s Velen.
He is looking down at the bed. He isn’t wearing the ornate, complex robes, but rather something more simple. In his hand, he’s holding one of Remnii’s childhood toys: a simple, blue and purple stuffed elekk.
As Remnii appears, he immediately looks in her direction. Remnii stays stock still and quiet, somewhat apprehensive of what is going on.
Velen smiles and his brow crinkles.
Velen says: Remnii? I did not… I did not… mean to bring you.
Remnii is quiet for a moment longer, looking somewhat afraid.
Velen says: Either in my old age my mind is playing tricks on me… or… is that you?
Remnii hugs herself and takes a step back.
Remnii says: This isn’t some kind of cruel joke, is it?
The elekk falls out of Velen’s hand and squeaks quietly as it hits the bed. He steps around the bed.
Velen says: I do not think so, my child.
He opens his arms for Remnii, and, her lip quivering, she scoots closer and moves to touch his face.
Remnii says: Is it really you?
Velen says: It is.
Remnii says: I’ve waited for so long.
Remnii starts to sob.
Velen says: Oh blessed light.
Velen wraps Remnii into a hug, her face burying into his beard.
Velen says: I have come here nearly every day since you left. Never did I expect to find you here, my child.
Remnii says: I finally made it to Kalimdor.
Velen starts to cry as well, and Remnii starts to cry very hard.
Velen says: For so long, I have asked myself what I would ask you first when the Light brought us back together, and yet… I do not have any words in this moment.
Remnii says: I’m not sure I have anything to say.
Velen runs his hands through Remnii’s hair and presses his forehead against her’s.
Velen says: I was so worried for you… when we left Draenor and you were not there. Long have I beseeched anyone, anything, to grant you the blessings of the Light and carry you safely wherever your journey might take you, and here you are.
Remnii’s face darkens slightly, and her lip quivers.
Remnii says: So much happened. I couldn’t save Mu’ru or Ku’re. Yrel is gone.. Samaara is gone… they’re alive, but they’re gone.
Velen says: Yet you are here, and as long as the Light you kindled in your soul is here, you are palpable. But please, I would hear of everything you have gone through.
Remnii says: First I have to know… that is likely a multiple night story. But… do you know where you are?
Velen takes a deep breath.
Velen says: I do… yes… ‘tis perhaps a story as long as your own. Remnii… I am so sorry… that we left you behind. I hope you can forgive me.
Remnii says: No! I was the one who made the choice to stay. Mu’ru was dying… I… I don’t think I expected to wake up after that. If it weren’t for Yrel and Samaara and… and… I should be the one apologizing. I should have been there. But…
Velen and Remnii migrate to the edge of the bed.
Remnii says: I’m sorry I put you under so much duress vakas, but I think I was meant to stay. I have seen much and more of what Draenor has become. I have walked with orcs. I was aboard the Vitiator… a Legion ship… and through the Dark Portal… the sacking of Silvermoon much like the sacking of Shattrath. The kindness of this world has been good to me, and I have seen honor left in the orcs. Great and terrible. Beloved and strong are many of the people I have met. But I wanted to be with you most of all.
Velen says: You always have been, Remnii.
Remnii says: Not in the heart sense! The real sense!
Velen says: You know I have difficulties bringing the two apart at times, but I have missed you, my dear.
Remnii says: But… you are on this side of the world, yes? I’ve been trying to reach you, and this is the first time I’ve gotten through.
Velen says: The land you have come to, you believe it’s Kalimdor?
Remnii says: I know it is.
Velen says: Then yes. We too came to this place. We have been here for… many long years. They have not been… kind to us. I would hear about your own stories, but I will tell you of your own people.
Velen’s demeanor gets a bit more grim.
Velen says: When we left, the damage the Exodar had taken was already quite severe. Several demons, as well as some of their orcish servants, snuck aboard as well. We fought them off, but they were able to deal considerable damage to the systems. The ship spiraled out of control. It crashed here, on this world. The native peoples of this land, they did not take kindly to us. The… crystals of the Exodar changed the land where we landed. It caused irreparable damage, and the natives, the kaldorei… many of them died in the crash, as well as our own. We tried to make peaceful contact, but the diplomatic parties we sent did not return. It was not long before they came in force. We did not seek to fight. These people… their faces were among the thousands in the visions I told you of, and I would not war against them, but they would not have the same idea. We languished in their dungeons for many years. Deep beneath the earth. Separated. Until many years ago. An unexpected savior arrived. A group of humans. They were led by a group of brave souls.
Remnii says: Following the Violet Star.
Velen says: Not all survived. Some sacrificed themselves so we could escape. I spoke at length with the men who resides with us--
Remnii says: What is his name?
Velen says: His name is Daelin Proudmoore.
Remnii says: Vakas… I’m traveling with his grandson.
Velen says: You speak truly?
Remnii nods.
Velen says: Then perhaps you were correct. Perhaps the Light wished for you to stay. He was not alone. He came with many brave warriors and soldiers to help free us. We tried to free the rest, but some still languish in the prisons in the great deeps we now hide. Unfortunately, the great magus that paved the way for our capture did not escape.
Remnii says: What was his name?
Velen says: He referred to him as the Guardian Medivh.
Remnii’s eyes light up.
Velen says: You know him?
Remnii says: I have fallen in with the right people. Do you know the history of the people here?
Velen says: I know only a brief history.
Remnii says: They were successful in the War of the Ancients in driving back the Legion. I have made contact with an interesting individual, but I… Medivh was supposed to help make sure the Legion did not pass through. Unfortunately they have. They are far across the sea, but…
She gives a quick lore dump.
Remnii says: They have faced the eredar before. They are, well… worried about such things.
Velen says: Then already the Legion has come to this world, using the orcs as their pawns.
Remnii says: It is only through the orcs… I was in a clan for a while.
She quickly tells part of her own story, explaining about Go’el, the son of Durotan, as well as the Ati’kaso, the leader of which was Larohir.
Remnii says: The son of Broxigar is among friends, and is the son of Jaraxxus. A succubi, and later a satyr, and a few shamanic siblings. Under their guise of keeping myself, Samaara, and Yrel as slaves, we survived.
Velen takes a deep breath.
Velen says: That the son of one of the more powerful eredar among their number… that you spoke with him… that’s surprising.
Remnii says: His faith in the Legion is weak. Very weak, in fact. And, you know, his mother helped us from the inside. Apparently. That’s what started his crisis of faith, if you will.
Velen says: I have spent so many years protecting our people from the clutches of the Burning Legion, that never did I consider some amongst their number would… would chafe against their crusade.
Remnii says: In the short time I have been interfacing with demons, I have met three already.
Velen says: That is a hope I could have never dreamed of. But a fear… as well.
Remnii says: There is a lot. By the way of orcs, a battle for the soul of a people has begun.
Velen says: I believe, Remnii, that you may be key to bringing that into reality. You are someone I could never truly predict. You are something more special than I could have possibly imagined.
Velen runs a hand through her hair.
Velen says: You have become so strong… you were but an acolyte. It seems like yesterday, and here you are, paving the roads to saving the souls of creatures that I had never even considered.
Remnii says: Only because you shared with me what your visions were that I understood truly that the Army of Light isn’t one person, one species, or otherwise. That the army must be built if there is ever to be an end to this running and the swallowing of worlds. Vakas, Draenor is in the Twisting Nether now. Cracked and broken into so many fragments, and that is only one example. I can’t stand for it again.
There is a twinkle of pride, but also abject fear in Velen’s eyes.
Velen says: Remnii… you have been through so much… but before you make these steps… you need to know the dangers. You… will attract the attention of many on this path.
Remnii says: I already have.
Velen says: Who has spoken to you?
Remnii says: I… I’ve met with an eredar… arriving on Draenor was an eredar by the name of Shaspira, and she had a daughter, Aracyra, and was working with the Coven of Bones. She felt quite strongly about Nuuri. She kept me captive for a number of days and discussed with me at length the pain… apparently vakos had tried to kill her.
Velen’s expression grows darker, and his complexion paler.
Remnii says: I think it would have been worse had one of the Ati-kaso not been able to free me. Something personal happened… judging from the look on your face.
Velen stands up.
Velen says: I cannot be certain. As you know, most eredar have hidden their original names behind monikers they adopted after they turned their backs on the rest of us. Once they became man’ari. The name Shaspira is not unknown to me, but I know only that she rose to prominence among the Archival Authority.
Remnii says: She is at its head.
Velen says: And has been for thousands of years. I do not wish to make you suffer under these memories…
Velen isn’t looking at Remnii.
Velen says: But you should have as much control over this dream as I do. Can you show her to me?
Remnii reaches out a hand and pulls the sharp vision of Shaspira from her memories, shaping it in her image. As she does, Velen’s hand covers his mouth and strokes his beard.
Velen says: Oh… Aarlana… It is… as I feared.
Still not facing Remnii, Velen waves his hand, and another image appears. It’s a draenei, and it becomes obvious that this image was a younger Shaspira. Her horns are not quite as long, and the blackened and corrupted hands and hooves are just a soft, pure, creamy white with tufts of fur. Her bright red eyes are a pale, sparkling silvery yellow, and there’s a small smile on her face. Her clothing is a long and beautiful, draping dress in a similar style to her current one, but white and blue and airy. It’s a much gentler image, and far less evil.
Velen says: Nuuri and Aarlana… they were inseparable when we were young. They were like sisters, though not related by blood. I do not know if what she said was true. For in her last moments, I was not with her. When Nuuri died, I was… miles away. Waiting for her arrival. You know the story of what happened to Nuuri.
Remnii says: Talgath.
Velen says: But there is something I never told you. Nuuri did not die during childbirth. I believe that Talgath betrayed her. And perhaps… perhaps she betrayed her friend, or at least, from her perspective. Talgath ensured that I would be alone in this world. He tried to take from me my love, my soul… and up until that point, my only son. But Nuuri… Nuuri gave me one last gift before she left. That gift was you. A gift I have cherished. A gift I have feared almost as much as I have cherished it. Remnii… I lost both my children that day.
Velen is looking down at the floor, the images of Shaspira and her counterpart gone.
Velen says: My beloved’s last gift was to give Aarlana’s daughter a chance to live. A chance to live with a destiny chosen by herself. Not misguided. Not man’ari. I… am sorry. For having lied to you for so long.
Velen looks back at Remnii slowly, with nothing but complete and abject sorrow.
Velen says: I hope you will forgive me… someday… but I have never once lied to you about anything else.
Remnii is quiet for a long moment, and Velen also stands in silence.
Remnii says: I have a lot of questions.
Velen says: As you should, my child.
Remnii says: If… if you’re not my father… then who is?
Remnii looks back to where the conjured figures of Shaspira were.
Velen takes a deep breath.
Velen says: A man who I once trusted. A man who… a man who now threatens the cosmos with legions at his command. You were the last gift that Archimonde gave this world before dragging Argus to ruin. You understand, perhaps now, why I fear for you.
Remnii says: Do you… are… do you fear for me… or are you afraid of me?
Velen says: Remnii… I’m afraid only that I will fail you, like I have failed so many before you. Like I failed Nuuri. Like I failed Dathremiis. Everyone.
Remnii stands up.
Remnii says: You know I’m going to need to do something about this. About all of this.
Velen says: I believe that Nuuri knew too. I believe that is why she saved you. Why she brought you to me. Her most precious gift. My most prized treasure. Though you may not be my blood, you will always be my daughter.
Remnii looks resigned, and very resolute.
Remnii says: I am going to need help. Lots of it. And… if this is one burden off your chest, that’s okay. As long as you won’t look at me any differently.
Velen looks back at Remnii and smiles.
Velen says: Never. Remnii… you will always be my little treasure. No matter what happens. No matter how many stars come between us. No matter how many miles. You will always have my love.
Velen leans down and gives Remnii a soft kiss on her forehead.
Remnii says: I’m scared, vakas.
Velen says: We are all scared, Remnii. But it is what we do with that fear, and how we rise against those that would harm us. I am so very proud of you, my child.
Remnii says: I will need to see my compatriots off. We are… headed to the east for a time, but I will find a way to make it to you. And I will figure out what to do from there.
Velen says: There is one last gift I can give to you. Not here, but when we meet again.
Velen brushes Remnii’s hair away from her face and the headband she is wearing.
Velen says: She left a gift within this very present. But it is something only she or I could retrieve. Something to look forward to. Something she told me to tell you, when the time was right.
Remnii says: What I will look forward to most is seeing you again. We have much to catch up on. Meet me here tomorrow? If you can.
Velen says: I will try. There is much happening. And this world is covered in darkness. But perhaps I need not fear now that your light is here.
Remnii says: Despite it all, I wish to say the same. There are many good people in this world. If I can help it, I will free our people however we, or I, can.
The dream starts to fade away, and Velen and Remnii embrace one last time. Suddenly, Remnii awakens, clutching herself, right outside the tiny hut in the early morning.
May 8th
The party wakes up to Remnii pacing outside.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Did something happen?
Vel drops the tiny hut.
Remnii says: Many things have happened.
Remnii takes a breath, and her eyes are puffy from crying.
Remnii says: I made contact with my vakas. They are here. On Kalimdor. But that’s not all. We should eat, and I can tell you while we are getting ready.
They break fast and Vel starts summoning the phantom steeds.
Remnii says: First off… a number of humans made it to meet them. And help them out quite immensely. One of them, Uther, was by the name of Daelin Proudmoore.
Uther has a thousand yard stare for a moment.
Uther Menethil says: My grandfather is alive? How long ago?
Remnii says: He’s with my vakas as we speak. But also, that is not all.
Remnii explains what Velen told her of the situation.
Remnii says: There was another human with them. A great magus with them by the name of Medivh.
Vel chokes on her goodberry.
Remnii says: He is currently in custody with the kaldorei.
Vel is recovering from choking on the goodberry, and Elissa pats her on the back.
Velameestra Windrunner says: So the Guardian is in custody of the natives here?
Remnii says: The ones that beat back the Legion, yes. But I will see you off. I can’t leave my people here. I’ve been apart from my people for fifteen years, and I can’t do it again so easily. I need to speak with the kaldorei, because we need reinforcements if we do this.
Remnii sniffles and straightens up.
Uther and Vel exchange a look, and Uther nods.
Uther Menethil says: We can’t go back now.
Remnii’s mouth flaps.
Uther Menethil says: Remnii, even if you weren’t a friend, strictly speaking, from a tactical standpoint, there are people here that share our common enemy. One of them has apparently already defeated the Burning Legion before. To go back now… would be childish.
Velameestra Windrunner says: And Medivh is one of our greatest defenses against the Legion. If we need to break him out of imprisonment, so be it.
Uther Menethil says: Plus Remnii’s people are here, my grandfather is here. If he was strong enough to face these people, he must have a considerable force with him. Perhaps if these people know if the Legion has returned, they may be willing to lend their people. We should make haste and find out what we can.
Velameestra Windrunner says: And, regardless, it would likely take months to cross the ocean. If we have the Guardian, we may get back a lot quicker.
Uther Menethil says: Indeed. It pains me to leave my family… but this is so much bigger.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I will continue trying to get through the netherstorm. At the very least, maybe we can reach Victor.
Remnii says: Thank you. I will not forget this kindness.
Remnii is crying.
Remnii says: But this is not everyone. Seria. Riff? You are also far from home. Your thoughts matter here too.
Seria looks at the group.
Seria says: You all would die if I wasn’t here.
Riff says: If mom is in, then I’m in too!
Seria says: I also don’t have anywhere else to go right now.
Elissa Cross says: I’m just really glad that Uther is okay with staying because I really wanted to help you. Because I’m really scared for everyone back home, but your people need us too, and if Sir Proudmoore is here, he could maybe help, and the Guardian…
Elissa and Remnii both start sobbing again.
Elissa Cross says: Because as a sworn sword it’s my responsibility to follow Uther… but I’m really glad he chose to stay.
Uther Menethil says: Well, don’t forget, as my sworn sword, it’s your job to point out when I’m being an ass.
Elissa Cross says: I think you’re making the right decision.
Uther Menethil says: Glad you see it my way. We should go.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Preferably before this crying becomes infectious and I have to restart the incantations.
Remnii continues to sob as Vel finishes up the phantom steeds. They travel for a few hours, and finally they crest a dune. There is a poorly paved road down below, and a large wall surrounding a huge city. There is an open gate up ahead, but the buildings inside dwarf the surrounding walls. It’s a bustling, goblin-made metropolis. There are dozens and dozens walking about the city, and there are a few people heading in and out. Over the gate, there is a large wrench, and there is a sign that says “Welcome Gadgetzan”.
There is yelping up ahead, and there are creatures that look like quadrupedal gnolls, and the figures walking with them are also gnolls. They are carrying sacks, and one of them yelps something after the group as they pass, but it’s in gnollish.
As the party approaches the gate, they see two goblins guarding the gate. One of them squints up at the group.
Gadgetzan Guard says: Holy hell. Woah! Slow down there! Is everything alright. You guys being chased by something?
Uther Menethil says: Not at all, friend, we’re just in a hurry. This is Gagetzan?
Gadgetzan Guard says: It is! Uh. Mind me asking, but, uh, what were you folks doing in the middle of the desert. You part of the Mithril Order?
Uther Menethil says: Can’t say we are. We made a wrong turn.
Gadgetzan Guard says: Ah. Well. You’re welcome inside, and just between me and you, watch your coin purse. You don’t look like you’re from here though. What are you looking for?
Uther Menethil says: Well, we need lodging, and transportation.
Gadgetzan Guard says: Well… like across the sea transportation, or?
Uther Menethil says: North.
Gadgetzan Guard says: North! Well, good luck. Not many people go north. Only people that seek that place are crazy adventurers or those folk from the Explorer’s League. There might be some goons in the town. I heard there was another start up that just rolled in. It might be worth looking into. I wasn’t sure where they set up shop, but you’ll probably find them. If you head to the main square, you’ll probably find one of them. They had a flag or sigil with two hands a disk. It was called the Reliquary. Might be worth looking into. There are plenty of jobs. You could work as a guard if you wanted. Real easy. Meet all sorts of crazy folk. But yeah, welcome to Gadgetzan. You could also talk to Marin Noggenfogger. He’s a good guy. Ask him about alchemy. He’ll go on for ours. My buddy did once, he totally forgot he-- don’t worry about it. He’s got a place in the center of town. Might need to make an appointment, but I’m sure he’ll take you. Judging from your outfits, you look like you’re from the Eastern Kingdoms. Just keep a low profile.
Uther Menethil says: Appreciate the advice!
Velameestra Windrunner says: I don’t suppose there’s a place we could purchase a map, by chance?
Gadgetzan Guard says: An accurate one? Well, uh, I dunno. You could talk to the people at the Explorer’s League. If you’re heading north, you’ll be crossing the Shimmering Flats. Salt desert. And then you get to the Thousand Needles, and no one gets past there. But. Eh. Unless you have something to cross that quick, I’d be careful. Unless there are magics you all have that help you with wilderness survival. But all the same, welcome to Gadgetzan.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I suppose our first stop should be the center square then.
Uther Menethil says: Of course. Thank you.
Gadgetzan Guard says: Right! Welcome to Gadgetzan!
Gadgetzan Guard 2 says: Shut up. You already said it.
Gadgetzan Guard says: What? It’s our thing.
They head into the city, and there are mostly goblins, but also some humans. There are also some strange people: another gnoll sitting in a side alley picking through some trash, for instance. But the entire place seems to be some sort of hub. They pass an outdoor forge covered by a beautiful tent. There is an elf working shirtless pounding on an anvil. Scooping a handful of something from a pouch is a massive humanoid creature that looks like a bison with two long horns and pitch black fur. He has a black smith apron down his front, and he is scooping something into his mouth. There are many strange people, including some trolls.
Seria, however, feels like they’re being followed. There’s a shadowy figure that will pop out of an alley to look at something, but they seem to be following them. There is a wolf following not too far behind.
As they head closer to the center of town, the figure seems to get closer, until the figure is just straight following them.
Seria goes over to Vel and whispers they are being followed, and Vel summons Arkha’din, who coils around her shoulder, and then she peers through his eyes to look back. There are a couple of things of note: they are very tall, and there are a few features--such as the sway of a tail, and the flash of backlit eyes.
Vel turns fully around.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Remnii.
Remnii says: What is it?
Remnii turns around, and Vel nods at the figure following them.
Cloaked Figure says: When I had seen you at a distance, I dare not hope that it be true.
She pulls her hood down, showing a relieved smile.
Remnii says: I’ve cried enough today.
Remnii immediately goes for the figure, who she immediately recognizes as Samaara, and slams into her. Samaara catches her.
Samaara says: It is good to see you again, Remnii.
Remnii says: I have so much to tell you. Samaara. By the Light.
Samaara says: This is not the first time you have defied death. I’m not surprised to see you do it again.
Remnii says: It’s good to see you. I think I’ve actually cried my tears today. But it’s so good to see you.
Samaara says: The feeling is most mutual. I have many questions about what you are doing here. I suppose you have the same. But before that… these friends.
Remnii says: They are the party I mentioned.
Samaara looks at the group, and at Vel and Seria.
Samaara says: You. The keen ones. Which one of you is Velameestra?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I am.
Samaara says: There is someone you should meet.
Samaara introduces herself and thanks them for protecting Remnii, who is like a sister to her.
Uther Menethil says: My name is Uther Menethil. I believe I owe your sister my life.
Samaara says: Than you and I are the same in that.
Samaara looks down at the wolf beside her, who is purplish in hue, and seems to be wearing jewelry.
Samaara says: Well, my friend, it seems this patrol was beneficial. Let us return to everyone else.
Samaara gestures for the others to follow.
Samaara says: Remnii, we will have plenty of time to catch up.
Remnii says: Yes, but you should know.
Remnii quickly fills her in that she made contact with Velen and she knows where they are.
Samaara says: We only recently made our way from the shore, and I daresay that we’re going to need your help.
Samaara leads them to the eastern section of town, and there is an old building under construction. There are a number of humans and elves in the area, with the sigil of the Reliquary showing in various areas. Mixed with the elves and humans are other members of the Ati’kaso.
There are also members of the Waned present, which Vel notices. She is starting to put together who she needs to speak to.
They walk into the building, and there are three figures. One is immediately recognized as Kilnar, who is wearing a loose, light dress with a veil over her head.
Near her are two elves. One is darker skinned with curly black hair. She is exceptionally short, and another who is a tall, regal-looking elf who floats a few inches above the ground. He adjusts a monocle over his eye.
Kilnar stops dead in her conversation, her eyes fixed on Vel.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Kilnar.
'''Kilnar : Velameestra…
She starts to laugh as she takes in the rest of the group.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Is that truly you. Is that all of you. In the flesh.
Uther Menethil says: Despite our enemies’ best efforts, yes.
Kilnar Goldensword says: I thought I could not feel more vindicated in my life. But no, here you are. Of all the people to stumble into my door.
Kilnar walks over to Vel and brushes hair from her face.
Kilnar Goldensword says: It seems you and I are exceptionally bad at staying dead, my dear.
She and Vel momentarily embrace.
Velameestra Windrunner says: So it seems.
Kilnar then looks at Remnii.
Kilnar Goldensword says: And you, I’ve heard so much about. And nothing has been bad. And you, Uther. I like the facial hair. It makes you look handsome.
Uther Menethil says: Thank you very much. Amazing what happens when my mother isn’t around forcing me to shave it.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Not a fan, is she?
Uther Menethil says: Sadly not.
Kilnar looks at Elissa.
Kilnar Goldensword says: And Elissa, yes? You seem to have done well for yourself, young lady.
And then Kilnar looks to Seria and Riff.
Kilnar Goldensword says: These two are new. You’re… not the same troll they brought to Quel’thalas last year, were you? No, he was red-haired. Rai, was it. You are not him. A pleasure to make your acquaintances. Kilnar Goldensword. An old friend of your companions.
She holds out a hand, and Seria just looks at it.
Seria says: Seria. And dat’s my son, Riff.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Well aren’t you a delight.
Kilnar smiles at both of them.
Kilnar Goldensword says: ‘Tis wonderful to meet both of you. We have so much to talk about. But where are my manners.
She gestures to the others.
Curly Haired Elf says: Tae'shara Sunwatcher, at your service. Nice to meet you. I’ve heard a decent bit about you. And all of you. But mostly you.
She holds a hand to Vel, who takes it.
Velameestra Windrunner says: You don’t say.
Tae'shara Sunwatcher says: Yeah. Kilnar and my dad are old friends.
Tae'thelan Sunwatcher says: I taught her, yes, but I suppose old friends. And it seems I owe my friend some coin. She was quite convinced that, as there were no bodies, you would crawl back out of some refuse pile, and it seems that refuse pile is here. A wager I’m happy to have lost. In any regards, I hope you’re here to help the Reliquary.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Tae'thelan, I’ll fill them in. If they choose to help, that will be on them.
Tae'thelan Sunwatcher says: Of course, of course. Come on, darling. Magistrix Erona will be taking care of your next lessons.
Tae'shara Sunwatcher says: Alright, sheesh. I’ll catch up with you all later!
She waves and then hurries off.
Kilnar Goldensword says: We have a lot to catch up on. Where have you all been for the last five months?
Velameestra Windrunner says: The Shadowlands.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Were this in any other situation, I’d think you’re joking, but you’re serious.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes.
The wolf is looking at Vel intently.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Step into my office. It’s not much, but it’s something.
They step into a room that’s largely empty except for crates to sit on.
Kilnar Goldensword says: I spoke with Gilveradin briefly. He told me what happened... but you survived your encounter with the good king. And ended up in the Shadowlands… well, it’s been about five months since your departure. Oh.
She looks at the others.
Kilnar Goldensword says: The three of you are practitioners of the Holy Light, yes? I’m quite positive today may be the feast of Saint Mereldar, though I misplaced my calendar.
Remnii says: Oh! Am I still a member?
Kilnar Goldensword says: You’re all dead, so not likely. I would hear your point of view, but I’ll fill you in on what happened. Uther, your father has returned successfully, and it seemed that beyond the loss of all of you, it was all returning to some normalcy. The first battle was a Horde victory, unfortunately. The Horde was spreading across the Eastweald. Many of the villages were being abandoned. The Horde has no way of being stopped from entering the Eastern Kingdoms.
Elissa Cross says: What of Fort Crossing?
Kilnar Goldensword says: I just know it has not fallen. I imagine it may still be under siege if they have not repelled the orcs by now. But some other things of interest. Some you may find concerning. About a month after Arthas’s return, his… illustrious highness called a meeting of the Alliance. Case in point, Daval Prestor has affixed himself in a new position he has crafted for this outfit.
Uther Menethil says: What?
Kilnar Goldensword says: He maneuvered himself into calling himself the high king of the Alliance. I was not at the meeting--
Uther Menethil says: Impossible.
Kilnar Goldensword says: And yet.
Uther Menethil says: Neither my father or Varian would stand for it.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Varian did not. Stormwind is no longer part of the Alliance. Your father, however, was the one that nominated him for the position. It was a universal agreement among all gathered. Seems he hearkened to your own impassioned words you had spoken not a month prior, that the Alliance must come together as one to defeat a greater threat. I unfortunately cannot tell you much more of what happened. It seems he is styling himself an emperor, or at least it would be before long. The elves had no choice but to agree as we had no where else to flee.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Opportunistic snake.
Kilnar Goldensword says: So it seems. There is more. Seems Prince Victor took up an idea of yours to reach out to the Dark Iron dwarves, who were accepted in the Alliance in the absence of Iron Forge’s departure alongside their ancestral allies. Seems the king of the dwarves had quite a visceral reaction to seeing his daughter ascended to the throne of the Dark Iron. Quite a plan. I have to commend her for that. It seems Lady Thaurissan is now a ranking member of the Alliance, along with her husband.
Uther Menethil says: ...Foolish.
Kilnar Goldensword says: War makes for strange bedfellows, but also twisted opportunities. If this so-called high king is… as Gil had suggested… then I am not surprised to see him meddling in the affairs of the Alliance. This is likely all a part of his grand scheme. That’s part of the reason I left in the first place. Part of the reason I commissioned the creation of the Reliquary from the other members of the Convocation… which there are some things about that I would speak to you further in private, Velameestra.
Velameestra Windrunner says: … of course.
There’s a knowing look between them.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Curiously enough, when I arrived, I found an old vessel here. Uther, your grandfather’s. A young man with me, Aramar, was quite distraught at seeing the other vessel with it. Similar recognition was had by our captain.
Remnii says: Makasa.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Ah, you do know them.
Remnii says: I was telling Samaara on the way. I have made contact with my people.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Is that so. I heard a few things about your people.
Remnii says: Yes. They have been on a losing end of a conflict. The crash of the Exodar affected the land and killed many of the kaldorei people.
Kilnar Goldensword says: ...oh…
The wolf is no longer looking at Vel, and Kilnar’s eyes shift to the wolf.
Remnii says: The draenei are ideally not fighters. But, the kaldorei took obvious offense to the great loss of life and the affected land. They had kept the survivors of the Exodar imprisoned. Until Daelin Proudmoore showed up. He’s alive.
Kilnar’s chin goes up, and a hand covers her mouth.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Please go on.
Remnii says: Some of the humans and many of the draenei are still incarcerated by the kaldorei. Diplomacy has failed. My people were in no shape even before boarding the Exodar to stave off attacks. In this escape, a magus by the name of Medivh… he is being held by the kaldorei as well.
Kilnar Goldensword says: He is….
Remnii says: I trust my vakas’s words.
Kilnar Goldensword says: I am not one to doubt you. If your father told you he is there, then he is there, and that is exactly what I was hoping to hear. That old sea dog was an unexpected addition to the survivors, but Medivh is here. Excellent. That is… most excellent news. This is a good time to inform you why we are here. The Reliquary has many goals. One is to find a way to reverse the condition that inflicts myself and many others. It comes to bear that if such a thing is possible, it could be possible for your people as well. I don’t know if we’ll find anything, but it’s possible. That mission is two fold, along with the destruction of the Sunwell-- did I mention that?
Velameestra Windrunner says: … no.
Kilnar Goldensword says: The sunwell is no more. It seems Kael’thas’s strike force was successful. But something strange happened. It seems the Isle of Quel’danas is now home to a great tree that glows in the night. Whatever portal the Horde had created is destroyed, and our connection is severed. I don’t know what to make of that.
Velameestra Windrunner says: ...a tree?
Kilnar Goldensword says: I cannot say much about the rest, but several of my dear friends are now on the other side of that same portal.
Remnii says: On Draenor.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Or what’s left of it.
Remnii says: The entire planet was pulled into the Twisting Nether.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Ah, that is the case then.
Remnii says: I have friends still there. If we are being candid, the world itself is shattered. Broken beyond any semblance of repair. While life survives, it was already dying. I cannot imagine what it looks like now.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Perhaps it’s best you don’t. There’s not much you can do right now. Hopefully they are safe, as are my own.
Seria is now looking at the wolf, as he seems to be listening intently.
Kilnar Goldensword says: I suppose that leads into another concern of the Reliquary. To stave off the addiction to the Sunwell, as, Velameestra, you likely experienced when you moved to Dalaran. There are adverse reactions, and possibly death. But we had another task coming to this Kalimdor. The presence of the Guardian confirms it. We need him if we’re to survive. The power he contains is perhaps enough to turn the tide of this entire war. That is where I have a proposal. I’m sure you all have reasons to return to the Eastern Kingdoms, but I will offer you no small amount of sponsorship if your group would lead an expedition in this strange new world. It is my hope that you might discover the whereabouts of the Guardian that you now know exists here. My resources are more limited than they ever have been, but I am prepared to make sure you are equipped in what you need to accomplish. And if your people, Remnii, are among them, then this could kill many more than two birds with a single stone. I will outfit you with whatever assistance I can offer, whatever explorers you need, and I’ve already procured a guide of sorts.
Uther Menethil says: I accept.
Vel nods.
Kilnar Goldensword says: I’m quite glad you didn’t make me fall to my knees and beg. But full glad am I to hear it. I suppose what happens next is for me to introduce you to someone that can help you. Someone uniquely equipped with some knowledge.
She looks at the wolf.
Kilnar Goldensword says: If you would like to introduce yourself.
The wolf rolls his eyes, and rapidly transfigures himself into the form of a night elf with lilac skin. He has a scythe strapped across his back that seems to be made of shaped, gnarled wood with a great fang affixed to it.
Uther Menethil says: Pleased to meet you, friend. Though you heard it before, I am Uther Menethil.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: You can call me Nahlen'do.
Remnii, Seria, and Vel translate that as “master of the fang”
Remnii says: I’m sorry we had to meet under news of dire circumstances. My name is Remnii.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Velameestra.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Difficult times for all of us.
Kilnar Goldensword says: My friend has reasons of his own to seek a meeting with individuals you may encounter. His knowledge, while not complete, will be undoubtedly useful.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: You trust them a great deal, correct?
Kilnar nods.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Truthfully, my friend, you can trust them more than you can trust me, if we’re being entirely honest.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Then we have a lot to talk about. Namely, I’m certain you don’t know much of my people then.
Remnii says: It is all from the outside.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: We’ve never been good at making friends. So that incident wasn’t a good start.
Remnii says: I… my heart grieves for everything that happened. I… I know no one would have wished this, but if you know of the onslaught of the Burning Legion, we came out of the pot and into the fire, or how the humans say it.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I was there when we fought them off.
Remnii says: Though we have our warriors, we excel in diplomacy more. I am sorry for the loss of your people.
Remnii holds a hand on her heart and bows.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: The first major obstacle will be…
He looks embarrassed.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I haven’t seen my people since they banished me to the Emerald Dream about 8,000 years ago.
Tol’vas looks at Kilnar and sighs, looking embarrassed.
Remnii says: Well. For varying amount of times we have been away from our people for some time. But that doesn’t change the fact that things have to change. For both of us.
Kilnar Goldensword says: While this is less than ideal, I believe his goals and our own are mutually aligned. His expertise in these matters may be helpful, and you all are uniquely equipped to assist him, and he you.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: You almost make me sound like a liability.
Kilnar Goldensword says: I hope it will not come to such a thing. We are going into mostly unknown lands. Much can change in thousands of years, and I trust the information you carried is still sound.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Well. Arguably, our people haven’t changed much in several thousand years, so…
Tol'va Moonshadow says: It may also be the same people. And they may also still be mad. But we can burn that bridge when we come to-- that’s not right.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Cross that bridge when we come to it.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: That sounds better.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Well, there are few others I would trust with this. And that Daelin is still alive… it should be no surprise. But if there are any other questions you have I can answer, I should be able to a acquire some sort of lodging. Worry not for expenses. I will also be equipping you with what I can. I don’t know how useful they will be outside of Gadgetzan, but it’s something. I can give about 500 gold to each of you. Take what time you need to prepare and rest before then. I’ll give you a manifesto of the people here. Magistrix Erona, Linore’s elder sister, is here along with two strange creatures she found in Silvermoon.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Scaled creatures, by chance?
Kilnar Goldensword says: Yes. Skarvyn was the name given to them.
Vel nods.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Their names are Zug and Dabu, which are orcish phrases I believe. Curious, but gentle. But rambunctious at times. If you know Aramar, do you know his companion. The blue dragon?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Tellius is here?
Kilnar Goldensword says: Yes. Would you believe me when he said he flew right into our ship. He’s around here somewhere. But yes, Telagos is present. Let me just give you the manifest seeing you know all sorts of interesting people.
Velameestra Windrunner says: In crossing the ocean, did you find anything about the strange netherstorm that’s blocking communication?
Kilnar Goldensword says: The disruption? Yes. We found where it seems to be emanating from. The disruption appears to be on the eastern side of the Maelstrom. It’s not the Maelstrom itself, I don’t believe… any and all communications seem to be impossible through the field.
Tol'va Moonshadow says: It even disrupts the Emerald Dream.
Kilnar Goldensword says: I can’t say I have any true hypothesis, but if anyone were to know, the Guardian might be able to make more concrete guesses.
Remnii says: I had wondered if it had been from the Exodar, but now I’m not sure.
Kilnar Goldensword says: If it was the Exodar, you wouldn’t have been able to reach your father. It even disrupts sending stones and the like.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: As far as I’m aware, there’s no landmass there. It’s too close to where the Sundering happened.
Kilnar Goldensword says: A mystery we may perhaps discover some morsels of in the future. But I know it’s presence… makes magically returning somewhat unsafe. But the journey took somewhere between two and three months to get here. Once the charts are more safely understood… the goblins may have better charts. Returning to the Eastern Kingdoms may eventually take less than two months through mundane means. If there’s naught else, please make yourselves as at home as you can. You’ll be free to handle any rest you need before you leave, and anything I can do, or the rest of the Reliquary, you’ll have our operation. I know Tae'thelan will be thrilled not to have to recruit you himself.
Velameestra Windrunner says: If no one else has anything, Kilnar, I believe you and I have something to discuss.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Yes. We do. The rest of you, please, make yourself at home. Remnii, please go see your friends.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Oh. Before we go. Kilnar informed me that this might be important for you to know.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Might. Yes.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Is there a word for it?
Kilnar Goldensword says: Perhaps you should show them.
Tol'vas shape shifts into a worgen. Vel looks very tired, and Kilnar puts a hand on her shoulder.
Kilnar Goldensword says: That’s the uniquely equipped part.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I’m not some ravenous beast. Anymore.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Excellent. A step past the last one then.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: The last one?
Kilnar Goldensword says: They traveled with a human girl for a time that was similarly afflicted.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I don’t suppose you know what a satyr is?
Remnii says: I do. I traveled with one for a time.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I’m sorry for that.
Remnii says: The demon that helped me through, that was a satyr.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I can’t say why they do the things they do. But, about 700 years after we drove back the Legion, there was another war. During the war with the Legion, one of the ancients there, a massive wolf, was felled, but not before he felled thousands of demons himself. We sought to draw on his power to defeat the satyrs… the problem with that was that his is an unrestrained bloodlust, and when you draw on a dead ancient’s power, you get even less control. So instead of abandoning it like Malfurion asked us to, we thought we knew better, we made this…
He holds out the scythe.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Made from one of Goldrinn's fangs, and a staff known as the Staff of Elune. It was supposed to balance us, so we could control it. And instead, we became this.
He gestures to himself.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: We lost ourselves, and when we lost ourselves, we were banished to the Emerald Dream to sleep. Your… worgen?
Kilnar Goldensword says: Correct.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Someone found the scythe, and someone brought them out, and they infected others. So for that part, I’m truly sorry.
He straps the scythe back to his back.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: There was a fight between the worgen. It’s… hard to describe what truly being an animal and thinking like one is like. I guess it’s dominance. I managed to take the scythe, and whatever connection I had pulled me out from it, and woke me up for the first time in around 8,000 years. The problem is that one of the original worgen wants to create an army. Hence why I want to get to my people first.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Well, I suppose we’ll see how many individual wars break out before this is through. We have to be up to four or five at this point.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Yes. Well. That’s what the Cult of the Wolf is trying to do, if we heard of them.
Velameestra Windrunner says: We… have, actually.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Well, their leader is calling himself Alpha Prime. But, any questions, comments, or concerns?
Velameestra Windrunner says: … Thank you for telling us this before waiting for the first full moon.
Uther Menethil says: Yes, marked improvement.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Ah. Well, I don’t do that. At least not as much anymore.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I’ll make sure I have a sleep spell on hand if needed.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Do you think that will work?
Velameestra Windrunner says: It did before.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Actually, of note. The place we used to live, when we called ourselves the Druids of the Pack. We lived in what you call Gilneas.
Kilnar Goldensword says: It does make sense given that’s where it originated from. It’s unsurprising to assume. We don’t have a solid confirmation, but it seems to be a likely theory. The woman they had met prior was a citizen of the selfsame nation.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: The mystery is who pulled us out of the Emerald Dream.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I suppose that will be resolved when we are actually back on the Eastern Kingdoms.
Tol’vas shrugs.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I suppose if you have any other questions for me… I don’t think I have anything pressing I need to tell you right now.
Velameestra Windrunner says: We’ll be talking later.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Hopefully, a lot, seeing I’m your guide.
Velameestra Windrunner says: ...Yes, there will be a lot of conversing.
Tol’vas grins at her, and the rest of the group disperses to allow Kilnar and Vel some privacy to speak.
Kilnar Goldensword says: I am so glad you’re here, Vel
Velameestra Windrunner says: The feeling is mutual.
Kilnar Goldensword says: It’s a boon, indeed, that you arrived here. There are other things that I didn’t mention in front of the others. Involved with our people. In concerning ways.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It involves Kael’thas, correct?
Kilnar Goldensword says: Tell me, what did you learn?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Not much, Frostmourne fell into the hands of the quel'dorei. Kael'thas might be undead and Alleria told me to join her in Northrend when I was able.
Kilnar Goldensword says: As a caveat to creating the Reliquary, I had to make our expeditionary forces split in two. Some are present in the Eastern Kingdoms--Esara is overseeing operations. She is, in many ways, acting as my proxy. But I’d be no help on the frontlines in my current state. Tae'thelan’s husband, Arlethal, is the other high examiner. He’s in charge of the expedition in the North. Many are there, including, but not limited to the King and Lana’thel, who is now as acting general of the Guardians of the Eternal Spring, or what’s left of them. What have you heard about Lana’thel?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Most information from up North was sparse... but I spoke with her directly many months ago, warning her about Frostmourne.
Kilnar Goldensword says: She took the blade and lead the forces in Quel’danas. She was… slain during the battle. Her body was recovered as was the sword. I saw her cold and dead as I went from ship to ship. I saw them take the body from the vessel.
Velameestra Windrunner says: But she's with the forces up North?
Kilnar Goldensword says: She’s very much alive. Any attempts at resurrecting her failed, and yet she’s here. Yet, if the Grand Magister’s words are to be trusted, 'twas her idea to take the expedition. They seek knowledge and they seek possible weapons against the Horde. There's more to this story that I don’t understand.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I was intending on reaching out to Kae'’thas as soon as I could... seeing as my aunt is with them.
Kilnar Goldensword says: I can’t say about the rumors you’ve heard about the status of Kael’thas. It would be concerning. I know he became exceedingly reclusive after the battle of Quel'danas. He didn’t exactly look healthy last time I spoke to him.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Similar changes to me?
Kilnar Goldensword says: Similar enough. I fear, at minimum, that he’s searching for dangerous solutions to appease our hunger. I know you were tasked by the Kirin Tor to do research into magics of the necromantic variety, but this may be something more than that.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Something... I may have expertise in, as it would happen.
Kilnar raises her brow.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Before we speak further, our contract of agreement has been nullified. You are under no obligation to help me, to tell me anything, to keep any of my secrets. I’m powerless to stop you from doing so, which I do not wish to. But because of the interesting direction of this conversation... is there anything you wish to inform me of, Velameestra? Know that I don’t need an agreement to keep your secrets.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Nearly a decade’s worth.
Kilnar Goldensword says: I see. Perhaps you are uniquely cut out for this task as well.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Which is why I wanted to reach him as soon as possible. Our collective... "death" has already delayed that.
Kilnar Goldensword says: I don’t know where they are now, but my people have been able to keep in contact with members of the Reliquary on that side. Dear Linore is captaining the ship up north. You… you may be able to learn more but Velameestra, please, please be careful. Something dark is happening and few who go to Northrend return at all. Those that do aren’t often clambering to get back. It’s a dangerous place. I fear what they find there will be… I don’t know. That scares me. I don’t like what I don’t know. But I know you, Velameestra. And I.. trust you to do what you think is right.
Velameestra Windrunner says: The trust goes likewise, otherwise I wouldn’t have said anything.
Kilnar Goldensword says: You also caught me in a good mood. A few months ago I may have been upset, but now? It’s a useful tool! And I wish you fortunes in your investigations. But, again, be careful. The next time someone declares you as dead? I will not accept that as truth. I would see that you don’t let that happen.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I won’t. At least I can be the first one to say I went to the Shadowlands and came back with memories of the journey.
Kilnar Goldensword says: You and your friends are unique in that regard. What was it like?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Abysmal. I hope there are other realms, other than the Soulflayer’s.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Heavens, I hope so. Are you alright?
Velameestra Windrunner says: No. But, we have to keep moving. Don’t we? The sooner we get done here the sooner I can get back and tell my family I’m not dead.
Kilnar Goldensword says: I’d love to see their faces. And the faces of those who have orchestrated this.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Reunions all over, it seems.
Kilnar Goldensword says: Yes, I suppose you’re right. If there’s anything you ever need to speak of, Vel. I’m here.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I’ll do so, thank you Kilnar.
Kilnar brushes Vel’s hair out of her face and lets her go.
