Maim Blackhand is the second living son of the Warchief, Blackhand. He is a demon on the battlefield, and his ferocious prowess in battle is as legendary as his poor temperment. Though he and his brother, Dal'rend rule the Black Tooth Grin clan together, most consider Dal'rend to be its true leader, though none would dare say as much to Maim.

Chapter Three: The Scales Tip

Maim, along with his brother Rend, continued to serve their father's interests in the days following the opening of the Dark Portal. However, unlike most present, he and his brother were not formerly invited to the first meeting of the Clipped Wing coalition, the reason given by Arthak being he "was not sure if they would come." Even so, Rend and Maim crashed the meeting, and were among some of the most vocal critics of Arthak's plans.

Death and Undeath (November 23rd, 632)

When the Thalassian Resistance attacked the Clipped Wing coalition meeting, Maim was ultimately killed in the conflict. However, while his murderer had used the elven attack as cover, there was some suspicion over who had actually killed him as Garrosh Hellscream had left in a storm soon after and his wounds were strange. It would later be uncovered by select individuals that he had actually been assassinated by a disguised Garona in the custody of Garrosh, Jorin Deadeye, and Zagarra, which had been the source of Garrosh's fury. However, his body was taken away by Gul'dan, who stated he intended on "saving him."

Later that same day, Maim was taken to Sunstrider Isle where the Shadowmoon Clan had made their home. Under the direction of Teron'gor, the attempt was made to bind Maim's soul to one of the scepters needed to created one of Gul'dan's "death knights," however, the ritual failed. Teron'gor stated that, due to Maim's lack of magical acumen, it seemed that his soul was too weak for the ritual to take hold. Seeing little other option to bring Maim back, Teron'gor turned to more direct necromancy and raised Maim into a vengeful undead, who promptly took off toward the city looking for a "her". It was assumed he was referring to an elf or perhaps the Blood Shrike herself as he had been killed during an elven ambush.

Seeking Vengeance

However, it was not the Blood Shrike that Maim sought, as in actuality, he had started to comb Silvermoon City for his true murderer: Garona. His pursuit was unrelenting, to the point that he managed to follow Garrosh Hellscream and Jorin Deadeye through the ban'dinoriel when the dreadlord Mal'Ganis opened a passage through so that they could pursue Frostmourne. He was once more destroyed, this time by Jorin, though his destruction was not to last, as he continued to hound the group multiple times during their journey through the elf lands.
