Vincent Nightwhisper is an agent of the Stormwind Intelligence division and ultimately has many different aliases beyond his real identity.
Appearance
Due to the nature of his occupation, Vincent's appearance can vary quite regularly due to many different aliases he takes on. He has been known to change his hair color and style, his clothing, and even his eye color to hide his true identity, though his true hair color is a deep, rich black worn in a short, shaggy style. He is thin and dexterous, sporting a build appropriate to his role, and he has hazel eyes that are periodically accompanied with a faint glow due to his high elven heritage.
He has a mark branded on his neck that was burned into his skin as a child to mark him as a thief that he normally keeps hidden by a scarf, and he is missing a middle finger.
Personality
As a man of many faces, Vincent is also a man of many roles. He can take on any number of different personalities depending on the needs of his alias, and can be quite friendly if the situation calls for it. However, at default, he is known for being a bit of an ass.
Biography
Early Life
Vincent lived majority of his life in the slums of Stratholme where he had to survive on his own. He didn't know who his parents were, but he knew that his parents threw him in an orphanage given that they didn’t bother to give him a name or a note.
During his life in the orphanage, he was treated as an outcast by the other orphans given that he was a half breed. Around age 8 he ran away from the orphanage to live on his own, but it clearly didn’t go the way he wanted it to. He learned the cruelty of the world as well as the rules of the slums: only the strongest survive. Whenever he got coin from begging, someone else would simply take it from him, and any day he wanted to rest he would get mugged.
One day, he was starving and decided to steal some food in one of the markets. He was easily caught by one of the guards and they beat him as his punishment, but despite that, he continued to do so and improved the more attempts he did, though he didn’t succeed in every robbery. He began to thinking bigger than stealing bread and increased the stakes he was taking.
Months had passed and he met a group of thieves who insisted him to join their little gang, though that was the day when he learned not to trust anyone who you barely just know. They planned a heist to take some items from a merchant and he was going to be the bait. Though the heist was a success for the thieves, the boy was caught by the guards. They took out a knife and decided to be “generous” and asked him which finger he wanted to lose. The boy simply flipped them off and they simply cut off that finger, and given the attitude the boy gave, they burned a mark on his neck as a way to tell everyone he was a thief and a criminal. Any hopes of becoming a regular citizen were taken from him and he decided that if he was going to be treated as a criminal, he might as well become one. He stole a scarf and covered the mark so that it didn't give away what he was.
Entering SI7
Around the age of 14, he learned the rules of the slums and what it meant to be a thief. He stole from those who had it coming, and those who he hated. No one knew the boy’s name so those who knew him simply called him Kid. Kid began enjoying thrill of stealing and would continue improving himself by stealing from those who look challenging. One day, he decided to take something from the more richer part of Stratholme and he spotted a noble with a couple of guards as well as a pretty big pouch of coin. He studied the target for a while to see when he and his guards are at their most vulnerable, and when he knew when, he made his move. He blended easily within the crowd, deceiving the crowd as a simple lost boy looking for his parents, he slowly made his way closer, and then, with a snatch, he took the pouch and ran into the nearest alley. He climbed his away to the roof and simply taunted the noble and his guards before he made his way out. He took rest within an abandoned building, playing with his coin and laughing at how easy that was, and it was at that moment he failed to notice a figure in the building and was startled when the figure clapped and congratulated him. Kid took out a dagger to stab the stranger, but the figure easily grabbed the blade, disarmed him, and pinned him on the floor. The figure took off their hood to reveal a human with black hair and blue eyes who introduced herself as Sarah Nightwhisper. As she was still pinning the boy down, she told him her job was to recruit potential members for a group known as SI 7 and she saw potential for him to be one. She told him that he could steal and kill while being considered part of a military force, meaning he could get away with what he did--within reason of course.
Kid was hesitant, mainly because she was still pinning him down, but because the first time he trusted someone, he lost a finger and was branded a criminal. When he told her this, she simply replied: “You know If I wanted something like your gold there, I would have just killed you while you were laughing and considering I haven’t killed you, means I want you to be part of something greater. So how about it, Kid?”
He agreed and the two made their way to the city of Stormwind. Kid felt excitement at first. He was recognized by a powerful group because of the skill he possessed and the best part, he got to steal things and get paid for it. However, he began to hate the training part considering Sarah knew he needed to first know the basics as well as learn enough to be a member of SI7. His first training was learning the basics of combat and Sarah didn’t hold back as a way to tell him that his enemies won’t go easy, It took him months till she thought it was enough to pass. Next was his least favorite, the basics of reading and writing, every time he misspelled something, he would get smacked in the head with a book, and it seemed Sarah enjoyed the hitting more than teaching. Lastly, he trained in espionage, he excelled at stealth and stealing, but nothing more than that, He learned how to talk his way out of situations, as well as learn how to clean up any tracks he would make when taking things. After a year of training Kid felt gratitude in what he was able to accomplish thanks to her mentor and even though she doesn’t show it, Sarah pushes him because she wants him to grow. When SI 7 needed to make some identification for kid, He came up with a name he thought would sound cool and a last name to go with it. When he went up to her to show her his name, Vincent Nightwhisper, she seemed surprised but then looked annoyed and said
“You have got to be kidding me…”
The rest of his life in SI7 made him feel like this is where he belonged. He had a group of allies that he can rely on, he felt important when he was given a mission, and he had someone who cared (In her own way). He felt at home, something he never thought he would have and he was living the good life.
At age 20 Sarah was given a mission to assassinate someone, Vincent insisted to join, and surprisingly enough she agreed. They were after a merchant, who has been reported by other SI7 member, sending supplies to the Syndicate and the higher ups wanted him gone. When the two made their way to find the man, Sarah said no words, which was weird to Vincent since she’s always been a chatty woman. When they found the Merchant riding his carriage, it was clear that he was planning to go into hiding. So they waited in the woods as the night got closer, which made it easier for them to sneak in. When they attacked, they heard screams in the carriage and they saw a woman and a child, Vincent was surprised and before he could ask what they should do, Sarah gave him her dagger and just looked at the two. He was shocked at how quickly she gave him the dagger and looked at the child. He looked so young and he felt his hand shaking, he began to breathe heavily and looked at Sarah, who simply continued looking at the two and said: “We can’t have witnesses….. You either kill them or SI 7 will want your head. You wanted to sign up for this and you KNOW that failure isn’t an option.”
Vincent was shocked at that, but he remembered why he was recruited in the first place. He was a criminal and SI 7’s job are to do the dirty work for the alliance, many of them were thieves and murderers and he is no different.
In this world, only the strongest survive He thought
And he killed the woman and child, they both burned the carriage and made it look like a bandit attack. As they made their way back to headquarters, He asked if she knew they would be with the merchant and she simply said : “You have potential, Vincent, but it was clear that you weren’t taking the rules to heart. This was my final test for you, we do what is NEEDED, not what is right. From here on you’re my equal, so I don’t expect you to come to me to babysit you anymore… do I make myself clear? We do the work everyone else is too cowardly to do.”
Vincent clenched his fist, but it quickly faded as he simply looked at her, laughed, and showed her his missing finger and brand.
“You’re right, I shouldn’t have forgotten why I was recruited in the first place. To eliminate the enemies of Stormwind in whatever fashion they order me to, whether to steal or to kill I WILL get the job done. After all…. If not for SI 7, I would have been just a petty criminal with no purpose. This is what I was meant to be and I will show everyone in this force that I am the best.”
Sarah gave a sad smile at his response and the two quietly made their way to Stormwind.
Over the next several years, he had completed various missions, from stealing, spying, and killing all for the Alliance and his next mission resides in a small town near Stratholme.
