Nyxxa Murkthorn says: I have to talk to her.
Farodin scowled.
Farodin Truebough says: It’s far too dangerous. She attacks anyone near those ruins. Our best bet is to sneak in and liberate the seed. I was never able to do it alone. With help, perhaps we could.
Sol suggested they go over to the ruins and divine whether or not a meeting would go well with magic. Farodin scowled again and looked to the other elves.
Farodin Truebough says: You trust this demon who walks among you?
Thalyssra Dusklily says: He has earned our trust.
Farodin looked at Sol and Nyxxa and sighed.
Farodin Truebough says: I could not stop you if I tried. I can lead you to the ruins.
Nyxxa suggested they could send a message and meet them in another neutral location. She asked if they left their territory, and Farodin said they didn’t do so often. He had also never seen Orathiss leave the hollow.
Rak’Symma sighed and rubbed the back of her neck. She admitted that it worth an attempt to send a message, but unless they had a way to send a message back there is no guarantee the message would even arrive.
Delas suggested that if they set up a camp near the ruins they could invite them to come meet them, and they could also divine whether the meeting would be wise. She recalled Orathiss Moonweaver was a good woman, and if there was anything left of her she felt it was worth a shot. Nyxxa pointed out the seed of the Arcan’dor was able to calm Theryn’s mind, so she wondered if it had a similar effect on the mutated elves. Farodin admitted they kept it on an above ground altar, though it was well-protected. However, the more he thought about it, the more he recalled that withered had entered and left the region unscathed.
Nyxxa also suggested that there could have been a misunderstanding and the elves blamed Farodin for what happened, and his expression showed that he likely blamed himself too.
Thalyssra asked if the seed was still viable, and he confirmed it was, unless something had happened to it. Thalyssra suggested they had Shal’Aran now and they could repair the ley line redirection systems, and Farodin had likely learned from the prior experience, as it seemed the seed needed both arcane and life magic. She felt it possible the arcan’dor could be grown.
Farodin Truebough says: To what end? Every attempt has only left death and catastrophe.
Thalyssra Dusklily says: So far. But it brought peace to Theryn. I have spent time watching him. Unless I am mistaken, though he is withered… his dependence on mana has severely dampened by his exposure to the seed. I don’t know how this all connects, but I have hypothesized that the arcan'dor may be our answer. It cannot be a coincidence. It could be the key to weaning us off the nightwell.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Not to mention it could put the spirits here to rest finally.
Farodin Truebough says: But what if I fail again? If my shan’do could not accomplish this, what hope do I have?
Valtrois Leyweaver says: Well this time you have us. You’re not alone. If you need to reroute ley line energy, that should be more than within our capacities. I have no doubt we can make it happen.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: And if you need to balance it with the might of nature, then there may be hope for that. If we are able to speak with the druids of Val’sharah, they may be able to aid us. Would you agree, Ariesera?
Ariesera says: It is possible. Not to mention the strength of the green dragonflight may be able to offset this arcan’dor tree.
Delas Moonfang says: Tyrande, what if it’s here?
Tyrande considered.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: I had considered it as well… but convincing the priestesses to allow us to utilize it in that manner would be difficult.
Delas Moonfang says: Come now, Tyrande. You may not be the high priestess, but you are Tyrande Whisperwind. I believe we may be able to convince them.
Thalyssra Dusklily says: Would you mind if I ask what you’re talking about?
Tyrande explained there is an artifact in the custody of the kaldorei that could perhaps bring balance to the forces. However, a great deal of conversation needed to happen. She explained it was called the Tear of Elune, and it was an artifact of similar strength to the Tidestone. However, she couldn’t make any promises.
They agreed that they wanted to try and do what they could to save those who were changed, and Nyxxa voiced that, for the time being, they were all at Thalyssra’s disposal, as this was her home. Everyone was in agreement, including the sin’dorei present, and Thalyssra thanked them for the trust they were putting in her.
Valtrois said she would focus on redirecting the ley lines, and Kilnar spoke up that she and her examiners were no strangers to ley lines and they were willing to help. Sol mentioned that he and Vel had found some information on the ley lines at the academy of Nar’thalas, and Vel could likely relay that information if she hadn’t already.
Ariesera said that she would return to the Dream Grove and continue to fortify it against aggressors.
Nyxxa asked Runas if he wanted to see Orathiss, and he admitted he wasn’t particularly fond of spiders, but he was worried about her. If they didn’t think he’d get in the way, he was happy to help. Sol used [Death Ward] on Runas and Nyxxa.
Nyxxa and Rak’Symma opted to take a brief walk while the group was resting before heading off to the ruins. Symma asked if Nyxxa had a good time at the shrine of Ashamane, and she confirmed she did, and that she had also left the offering that Symma had given her. Symma thanked her, and Nyxxa added that the statue of Ashamane was beautiful.
Nyxxa asked if Symma remembered her, and Rak’Symma said that in her past life she had watched her grow up and become a goddess of sisterhood. She was ultimately Avianna’s sister, and Nyxxa admitted that explained a lot in how she inspired the people that followed her. She also learned that she was one of the people saved by Ashamane’s sacrifice.
Rak’Symma said sacrifice wasn’t the right word for what the wild gods had done, as they had willingly given everything they had to fight the Legion.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Well. That’s what the Illidari mean when they say sacrifice. It’s a deliberate giving of everything.
Rak'Symma says: The elves have a way of making everything very dramatic, don’t they?
Nyxxa chuckled and agreed. She expressed that she hoped Rak’Symma had the chance to visit the shrine someday, and she admitted that she had spoken to enough ghosts in the last few days for a bit. Nyxxa agreed that had been the trend recently, and they were going to continue doing the same with Orathiss.
Rak'Symma says: You’re allowed to be ghosts to each other, Nyxxa. If there’s anything I can do, I am here.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: You being here gives me so much strength. You and everyone else. You all indulging me to try to speak to her is so much more than I could ask for.
Rak'Symma says: It’s the way I hope most conflicts can be resolved. Especially now. I don’t know the state of them… if the body lives and the mind is gone… I hope it works out for the best. Mostly I wouldn’t wish what I had to go through on you.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: I’m sorry you had to go through that. But… if I could reach the more problematic of the parental figures I had, I hope I can reach her.
Vaerux grumbled in her mind, and Nyxxa chuckled that he didn’t like the comment. Rak’Symma shared some of the stories of a young Ashamane.
Symma then went to speak with Tyrande, and Tyrande greeted her warmly. Rak’Symma admitted that she hadn’t expected to see Tyrande there, and Tyrande explained that, while there were a lot of things she wished to focus on, it did dawn on her it was likely wise to make contact with Thalyssra as, if Elisande was overthrown, it was likely Thalyssra would rise to a position of power. Starting talks now was better than later.
However, beyond that, Suramar had also been her home. Politics could come later. Rak’Symma commented that Tyrande had always been at the front of everything, and Tyrande chuffed and admitted she had a tendency to always get involved. She said she had heard about what happened with the dreadlord and the idol of Avianna.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: Know that it comes from personal experiences when I say you have my deepest condolences for having to deal with one of those monsters.
Rak’Symma had bent down to scritch Ash’alah’s chin, and the saber’s fur stood up slightly as static electricity crackled from her claws at the mention of the dreadlord. She sighed that it had made everything more difficult.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: It was by the nathrezim’s own machinations that a rift between my people and the draenei was made almost irreparable. And it was by his claws I almost lost my dear beloved sister forever. Not to mention myself.
She stroked Ash’alah as well.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: If I were to give you advice, do not allow them to get into your mind and heart. And I do not meant physically. These creatures will try to twist your words and your intentions and try to turn you into the cause of suffering. They will break your spirit by trying to convince you that you were responsible for everything, and it’s very hard not to listen. But what happened… none of that was your fault. That monster’s obsession with you is his problem and his alone. And none of his sins are yours to bear.
Rak'Symma says: I know. I wish there was a less bold way to state that, but anything he’s done has had nothing to do with me.
Tyrande smiled.
Rak'Symma says: I just wish he wasn’t an issue now.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: Like a snapped bow string, they have a tendency to appear precisely where you don’t want them to be. But I know you can beat him. Call it a hunch, but I believe in you. And if he gets in the range of my own bow, know that I will send more than a few arrows his way. And I’m not the only one.
Ash'alah confirmed he and all of the nathrezim would pay for what they did to them.
Rak'Symma says: To think all these kind words weren’t even what I came over to say.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: Speak your mind.
Rak'Symma says: Whatever it takes, Tyrande, I will get Malfurion home.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: Oh… What brought this on, if you do not mind me asking?
Rak'Symma says: He made a promise. He swore an oath. And he kept his word this entire time.
Rak’Symma could see Tyrande’s memory as she went back to the same grove where Aviana had first laid eyes upon her. Her eyes widened.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: You’re… speaking of back then?
Rak’Symma nodded.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: So you saw all of it then? Everything?
Symma nodded and Tyrande took her talons.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: Thank you. I feel more confident than ever we will succeed. We’ll find him and bring him back. I know it. If you would forgive an indulgence…
Symma tilted her head.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: I do not know precisely what you must be going through, and I would never pretend to fully comprehend it…
She squeezed Symma’s hands.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: But the memories that you saw… whatever lies within you? Whatever power it is? If there is any fraction or fragment of Aviana within it? I simply want to express my sincerest most heartfelt gratitude. I hope that she knows that her sacrifice, nay, her gift… will never be forgotten. And if not from me, then from you. Would all the ancients know how much their strength has inspired us, even to this day.
Rak'Symma says: Perhaps someday the sentiment could be shared with them.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: Perhaps.
Rak'Symma says: Because it sounds like there’s more than one already walking around.
Tyrande nodded.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: So I’ve heard. It was a recent happening, from what I understand. But word travels fast.
Symma’s thoughts traveled for a bit and then she smiled solemnly.
Rak'Symma says: If… this is what it is… I wonder if they are coming back in order?
Tyrande offered a macabre laugh.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: Well, Aviana was always something of a trend setter, as the stories go.
Rak'Symma says: One last thing, before we set off? I’m going to hug you.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: Oh! Of course, I’d be honored.
Symma wrapped her wings around Tyrande, and Tyrande hugged her back.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: I am blessed to have met you. I cannot wait for you to meet Malfurion. He will love you. And Shandris? I believe you’ll love her.
Symma laughed that the last thing Aviana did was yell at Malfurion, and Tyrande assured her that he was not one to hold grudges, which Symma expressed he was a greater being than herself then.
They returned to the group and Rak’Symma pried open a gateway through a tree. They emerged in a copse of trees down the river. Farodin stepped through and looked at the gateway in awe, as he had never seen such magic before. He asked if the druids of Val’sharah used such magic, and Tyrande confirmed they did.
As he looked closer at the tree after the gateway closed, he said there were similarities to the valewakers, but there was something else he could not explain, as if it was untamed and wild. He said he had never seen the harpies use such magic before.
Rak’Symma made an uncomfortable noise and admitted hers was somewhat different from the druids.
Farodin looked at the group and suggested he could lead them to the clearing where the seed had been stolen from him. Sol asked if the elves could still use magic, and he said they had layered magical protections, so it seemed at least some of them retained their abilities.
They opted to use [Augury] with the wisdom ball to get a read on if reaching out to Orathiss with the names Runas and Nhemai would result in a meeting. They got a weal response.
Sol then used [Augury] to ask if Farodin’s presence would cause issues, and it came back weal and woe.
Meanwhile, Rak’Symma had been looking around for a spider to use as a messenger. She mentioned the name Sathra, and she found one the size of a small cat with a few crystalline growths on it. It looked at Rak’Symma and asked who she was to invoke the name of lady Sathra. She said that she was a distant admirer, and the spider said he was willing to carry her words. However he needed a name.
Rak’Symma looked over at Nyxxa, who greeted the spider and offered the name Lady Moonweaver. The spider asked who they were, and Nyxxa explained she had been raised by her. As had Runas. The spider, if he could narrow his eyes, would have, agreed, and he said that he would spirit their words to the spider queen. They gave him the message and waited.
Nothing happened for many hours.
But they heard something moving in the brush. Nyxxa saw the reflection of many eyes in the surrounding area, and Nyxxa raised her hands to show that she didn’t have weapons, but she had seen them.
Rak’Symma looked over at Nyxxa, having also seen the eyes, and Nyxxa called out a greeting.
After some hesitation, a figure that was once an elf stepped forward. They were almost like a centaur with an elven torso on the lower body of a spider. However, its hands were longer and more distended, and his chen was lined with fangs and mandibles that splayed out. He was not alone, and another half dozen similar creatures emerged, along with a squad of large spiders that were also flanked with much smaller spiders.
He demanded to know who disturbed the queen of the fal’dorei in the company of a brazen fool with names of the past.
Nyxxa spoked up that she was Nhemai, and one of her companions was Runas, two of the children Lady Moonweaver had raised.
The figure skittered up closer to Nyxxa as she said she wanted to parley with their queen. He seemed to almost taste the aura around her. He held out the trinkets she had sent with the spider and asked if they were her’s. She confirmed. He asked if he still held the goddess, and she also confirmed.
The individual placed the trinkets back in her hands, and then regarded the rest of the group. His eyes fell on Sol and he noted that he was a demon of the Legion. Sol confirmed he was a demon, but he did not work with the Legion, and Nyxxa spoke up that he was her son.
The figure noted the times were strange, but he then asked why they had brought Farodin. Nyxxa said they hoped to understand what happened. The fal’dorei sneered at Farodin, but relented that Her Majesty had granted them an audience. He warned them that if they showed respect, then perhaps they’d be given leave to depart.
Delas thanked him for his hospitality, and asked what they should call him. He responded Na'zak.
Na'zak and his fellows led them into the ancient ruins of a city. Everything was covered in spiderwebs, and there were millions upon millions of spiders of every possible size. There was also an abundance of mana crystals, and also withered. The withered regarded them with uncertainty, but they did not not attack. Instead they hid and watched them, and none of the spiders seemed to be bothering them.
As they entered the city further, they saw more and more of the fal’dorei. However, they also saw a statue of Elune that was being held together by spider webs. They headed toward a pit and Na’zak warned them not to look down.
Those that did saw a deep pit that spiraled into an expansive underground facility that had fal’dorei and spiders all through it. Deeper down into the complex, the webbing seemed to have an arcane aura that also served as some form of light.
Finally, they reached the bottom and they saw a bright light accompanied by sparks of energy. Farodin went pale. It was an effigy of crystal that resembled the decayed trunk in Shal’Aran, but this one spidered upward in shards that resembled branches.
There were several fal’dorei here, with one looking up at the effigy with her back to the group.
And also, notably, there were dryads there, but their skin was crystalline and their hair was not leaves, but shards of crystal. They seemed to be tending to the tree of crystal, their eyes alight with arcane energy, and they also turned to regard the group.
The fal’dorei that was turned away from them spoke.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: You, who have spoken names dear to me in the past, have done so understanding what it would mean for you if you had done so lightly.
Slowly, she turned around on her six legs. She folded her arms before her, and her eyes glimmered a bright blue. Her arms were adorned with blue crystalline spikes, and her aura was incredibly powerful. Her eyes sifted across the group.
Nyxxa was speechless.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: Now who among you would dare speak the names of the fallen in vain?
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: It’s… me. I’ve changed, but it’s me.
Runas stepped forward as well.
Runas says: It’s um… it’s good to see you again. Mother Moonweaver, you look wonderful. It’s me. Runas. I know I look a little different too.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: They speak the truth, Mother Moonweaver. It’s been a long time. I was but a girl when I first attended your lessons.
Orathiss moved toward Nyxxa. Everyone got tense as she reached for her, but then she brushed a strand of hair from Nyxxa’s face.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: Can it truly be you?
A tear fell from Nyxxa’s eye.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: It is. A lot has happened… but it is.
Bright glowing tears started to stream from Orathiss’s many eyes. Her mouth cracked into a smile. She leaned down and curled her arms around Nyxxa.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: I’m glad I got to see you.
Orathiss pulled back with her hands cupping Nyxxa’s cheeks.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: When the earth crumbled… I thought the worst.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: I survived. After the war, I found family.
She looked over at Delas, who stepped forward and bowed.
Delas Moonfang says: It’s an honor to meet you, Lady Moonweaver. I am Delas Moonfang.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: It is lovely to see you. Thank you for watching over my Nemmy all these years.
Delas Moonfang says: I… cannot take all the credit. You raised a wonderful woman.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: A lot happened. Recently I’ve been able to build my family anew. This is my son.
She gestured to Sol and Orathiss smiled.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: How wonderful.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: I have others, and I met Runas. I call him brother now.
Runas says: It’s um… it’s good to see you again. Though I wish it could have been somewhere else.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: Do not be afraid, my children. You are safe here. Na’zak, thank you for bringing them here. You and the queensguard shall rest easy. They will be no threat.
Na'zak says: My queen, are you certain?
Orathiss Moonweaver says: I am. I will call should I need anything.
Na’zak bowed and he and the other guards backed away.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: We have so much to catch up on. So much has happened to us as well, as you may have seen.
Her eyes twinkled.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: We’ve both changed. But… I’m sorry, I know of you, but I don’t… my memories of my time before being a satyr are gone. I know who you are, but when Runas mentioned… I thought you gone.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: You always were forgetful. Perhaps the curse capitalized on that as well. I know of them. Those who twist Elune’s words in the dark corners of the world. Tell me, child, how did you walk this path?
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: My little sister was captured by them. The only way I thought to save her was to turn, and well… I think I once told you of someone named Nerus Moonfang.
Orathiss nodded, but then her eyes went to Delas as she put the names together.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Nerus became Vaerux during the war. During the moment of crisis, he told me the only way to save her was to become this. So I did.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: Oh, sweet child… to have one you love manipulate you. I am sorry I was not able to be there for you.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: He has been dealt with. He’s here, in a way. I… well. Another long story, but I ended up consuming his soul to regain control over my sanity.
Orathiss blinked.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: A long story.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: Well, I suppose he’s lucky you were the one that got him. I would have been much less kind.
Nyxxa felt Vaerux get a chill.
However, Nyxxa moved on into the explanation that, to release herself from the satyr curse, she needed to die soon. Orathiss asked why, and she explained the curse on Nar’thalas and that Elune was guiding her to find a way to remove the curse using a great sacrifice.
Orathiss put a hand on Nyxxa’s head and she said her heart broke, but Nyxxa replied she was going to find a way back, and she knew Elune was with her. Orathiss smiled at her, but her eyes turned toward Farodin.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: But you are here for another reason. And you brought him with you.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: What happened? He said he had no idea why you attacked him.
Orathiss folded her arms.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: Many moons ago, I was exiled from the city for providing succor for those in need. Cut off from the Nightwell, I like so many others, began to wither. But we are stronger together, as we always have been. Even when we could not see Elune’s light. So I gathered other exiles. We worked together and we sought to find an answer. A way to break the Nightwell’s control on us. That was when I met you, Farodin. We shared much. Eventually, he told me about the arcan’dor project and bequeathed one of its seeds to me. He even helped recruit the shard maidens to our cause in a hope the mistakes of the past would not repeat. Yet, despite all of our efforts, we failed. The arcan’dor shuddered, and erupted into what you see here. It’s all that remains. But I beseeched the goddess and begged her to spare us. We who had suffered so much. I would have given everything to save those I had gathered, and she answered my prayers. I remember being entangled in strands of silk as the magic washed over us. I remember her light embracing me. Saving me from annihilation. Reshaping me and taking away from me all of my suffering. When we awoke, we were fal’dorei. A people of unified blessed purpose. But we are not fools. We knew this miracle could not be given lightly. So we took what action was required.
Farodin Truebough says: The arcan’dor seed… that’s why you stole it.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: I did not steal it, child. I took it from your hands before you allowed another catastrophe to unfold. We proved that the project of your forebears was too dangerous.
Farodin Truebough says: But that’s all I have left of them. That’s all that’s left of our legacy!
Orathiss Moonweaver says: My child, you will always have your memories, but the arcan’dor seed is too dangerous. The next time, it’s devastation might be worse. You lost your family to the first, and I nearly lost mine to the second. We will not have any more families lost to the third. This is why we were given a second chance. This is why Elune gave us a new purpose. To protect the world. That is what the gift of the ancient magi is. A curse.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: It’s the only thing we have that can save Suramar. Have you heard what has happened?
Orathiss Moonweaver says: My scouts have noticed the strange happenings. The darkness. The evil forces that gather. And I have heard the illusion has been lowered for the first time in millennia. Things are changing.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Elisande has given Suramar to the Legion, and now they seek to open a new portal.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: So the demons have returned.
Nyxxa nodded.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: And very soon, people will be cast out from the city in droves. We are working with former First Arcanist Thalyssra in compiling a resistance. And in trying to find a way to stave off the withering. We found one named Theryn whose mind seemed to have been eased by the presence of the seed. That’s what led us here.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: We have noticed… the withered are welcome here. The seed calms down. Allows them to exist in peace. This we can grant to them, our brothers and sisters of Suramar. My heart breaks for the people of the city. But this is why the arcan’dor must be protected. If the magics that created this fall into the wrong hands… imagine the devastation.
Sol spoke up and expressed that he believed with the expertise of those helping them, they could figure out what the seed needed, as they even had dragons aiding them. Nyxxa added that it was told to them that, in a time of great need, it would be the arcan’dor that saved Suramar. Sol nodded and said he also wanted to ensure uncle Runas didn’t wither.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: It’s… it’s too dangerous. If it fails. If the First Arcanist tries to create it… what if you’re not able to do it?
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: If it doesn’t work then–
Orathiss Moonweaver says: The First Arcanist and all her people will die.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: They’ll die if we don’t try.
So'chi says: Besides, our group has done some impossible things. Just a few hours ago, I pulled a bean out of Theryn’s dreams. The green dragon we were with didn’t even know that could happen! Please believe in us, Mother Moonweaver.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: I’m certain you all have the best of intentions, but the risk is too great. If you were to do this, if you were… it would be by my own allowance that your voices would be silenced.
Orathiss turned away.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: No. It is simply too dangerous. You should give up on this project once and for all. If you fear Elisande’s wrath, stay here. You can all stay here. There is plenty of room and Elune’s blessings will hide you.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: We have to fight. If we don’t, then the world will fall.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: The last time we fought… it led us here.
Sol'chi says: The last time you fought, you won! I was born on Argus. They don’t teach the history of what happened. You hurt their pride so much they don’t. We can do this. If we just hide, this world will burn.
Runas says: A wise and ravishing young woman once told me that if there was anything you could do to reduce the suffering of others, it was worth trying to do. I cannot emphasize how young and wise and ravishing this woman was! But I always believed those words, and it got me here… admittedly not the best place–and I don’t mean your home!--but, with the withering and all that. I know you aren’t saying this in malice… it’s on your face. That’s why you turned away from us. It’s what you always did when you had to talk about something hard, but you know they are right. And it’s risky, but… if it could help, isn’t it worth doing?
Farodin Truebough says: We have learned so much. The sacrifices of the Valewalkers, the ordeals you and your fal’dorei have faced… and now all these strange people who have convinced even my shan’do that maybe there’s a chance to make that dream come true. I can’t do this. But maybe they can. Maybe you can. Will you help? I’ll give you anything if you allow this. Take my life if that’s what you want. Just please, let the valewalkers have one last chance.
Orathiss took a deep breath.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: You’re wrong about one thing, Sol. We did not bloody the Legion’s nose… we hid. We hide away in our city. I never liked fighting. I still don’t. But… you’re right. I cannot hide. Nor is this the time to do so. The world is burning. And if I am to hide in the darkness and hope it passes like it did before, my hands will cause so much suffering. Elune… forgive your humble servant for her cowardice.
She looked at Nyxxa with tears streaming down her face.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: Are you sure I cannot convince you to stay?
Nyxxa said she had to do it, and she wouldn’t be able to forgive herself otherwise.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: You are… truly my little Nemmy after all these years…
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Can I call you minn’da?
Orathiss choked up and could not speak. She nodded.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Thank you, minn’da.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: Thank you, my child. I will not sit idly as my people suffer under this treachery. If the gift of your ancient magi has any hope of providing succor… then I will not stand in your way. I will bequeath the seed to you under two conditions. One. You allow myself and my council to aid you in its germination. For centuries, we have studied the remains of the second arcan’dor. We have learned from it. Attuned our essences to it. If we are to take this risk, then by Elune’s grace, I will not allow you to do so without every tool available. Do you agree?
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Of course.
Tyrande smiled.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: I believe we would be fools to turn down your assistance.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: And secondly… I want to spend as much time as I can with you before I have to say goodbye once again.
She looked at Nyxxa, who smiled and said she wanted her to meet the rest of her family. Orathiss said she would listen with rapt attention and she would enshrine the memories in the web of her mind. And perhaps she could convince her to stay after all.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: I was told my stubbornness didn’t change either.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: It was hard to resist… simply wrapping you in my web and never letting you leave. But no one should tie you down. These are my advisors. Shu’malis, the Broodmother. Shinaris, the Webmistress. Sanaar, the Locus-Tender. And Lapillia, the Chief Shardmaiden.
Runas suggested they could move a translocation beacon to the fal’dorei lines, and Orathiss said she was receptive to such an arrangement. She also said that her home was open to the refugees that escaped Suramar as well.
Farodin looked very guilty for misjudging the entire situation, and Nyxxa assured him that she didn’t think he was wrong for reacting with such caution.
Shinaris stepped forward and said she would take them to the grove of the arcan’dor seed. She moved to climb up the wall, but then realized not everyone could climb, and she opted to take the long way around. As they walked up the weaving lattices, they saw several fal’dorei children, who were definitely not around when the elves were exiled. Shinaris gave the children a little wave as they were shooed back into the “schoolhouse” they came out of. One of them asked their instructor why the strangers didn’t have more legs.
They saw an intricate temple lined with spider silk. As they entered the temple a male fal’dorei, Cil’raman, came down to meet them and demanded why Shinaris was there. She explained the situation, and Cil’raman was momentarily outraged, but Shinaris wove a thought strand and exchanged it with the other fal’dorei.
He bowed his head and asked for their forgiveness, as he had watched over the arcan’dor seed since they retrieved it. However, he would gladly follow his queen’s command. He raised a scythe to lift the enchantments and Farodin asked where he got that scythe. The fal’dorei fell silent and then admitted that he thought it best to learn from those that guarded the seed before him.
Farodin Truebough says: You… copied me?
Cil'raman commented that he was under the impression that impersonation was the highest form of flattering, but he hastily brushed by the interaction as Farodin started to laugh.
The rest of the group returned to Shal’Aran while Nyxxa, Sol, and Runas spent the evening with Mother Moonweaver. She was given a tour of the home of the fal’dorei, and the last palace they saw was a nest deep in the heart of the city. There were spider nests all over, as well as fal’dorei that were tending to the spiders as well as to a handful of fal’dorei that were very gravid with eggs. Shu’malis, the Broodmother, stepped forward and explained the nest was where many spiders made their nests and the fal’dorei also ushered new life into their home. They had been surprised they could have children, but it seemed the blessings of Elune had allowed them to make new families.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Spiders are beloved by Elune.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: I don’t know if you knew this… but I was never able to have children. However, that also changed.
At that moment, a male fal’dorei stepped forward. He was relatively young but stalwart. He had dark skin and dark blue hair tied back into a long ponytail. He looked a lot like queen Orathiss.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: At ease brood guardian, but I’m glad to see you’re as diligent as ever. I brought some special people to meet you.
Brood Guardian says: Of course, it’s a pleasure to meet all of you. My name is Phyx. I am the captain of the brood guardians here.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: He is also my firstborn son.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Does that mean he’s my little brother?
Nyxxa’s tail wagged and Phyx looked completely confused.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: Phyx, this is Nhemai.
Phyx’s eyes widened.
Phyx Moonweaver says: Nhemai? Little Nemmy? The Nhemai?
Nyxxa nodded.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: It’s wonderful to meet you!
Phyx Moonweaver says: I’ve heard so many stories! You’re alive? You’re a satyr!?
Nyxxa said it was a long story and she opened her arms.
Phyx Moonweaver says: Your Majesty… permission to…?
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Of course.
Nyxxa and Phyx embraced. Orathiss then introduced Runas, who also gave Phyx a hug. He asked who Sol was, who introduced himself as Phyx’s nephew, as he was Nyxxa’s son.
Phyx Moonweaver says: Oh! Huh! It’s a pleasure to meet you!
Sol'chi says: Weren’t expecting demons in the family, were you?
Phyx Moonweaver says: No, I wasn’t, but if you are… if you’re little Nemmy’s son, you must be very special. The stories I’ve heard of your mother!
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: I’ll have to hear them too. I don’t remember much.
Phyx Moonweaver says: You’re much shorter than I thought you were… but I thought you were 20 feet tall with how much mother spoke of you.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: No need to embarrass your mother, Phyx.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: All this time you were thinking of me…
Orathiss Moonweaver says: And how often did you think of me all those years when you were making a family?
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Probably every day. I don’t think you’ve left my mind since I heard of you again.
Orathiss Moonweaver says: But… Phyx was the eldest. I can introduce you to everyone else.
There were about a dozen children.
December 15th
The next day, Oculeth arrived with Rak’Symma to set up a teleporter. They descended into the ruins of Falanaar amidst some amount of banter between them about their differences in teleportation.
Orathiss and her entourage arrived in Shal’Aran and Thalyssra welcomed them warmly. Orathiss greeted her equally warmly and they shook hands. Farodin approached the dais with the seed, and Thalyssra asked what their first step was. He said they needed to balance life and arcane and keep it fed. Sol suggested he could turn himself into a red dragon to invigorate the soil.
The group all looked around, as they did not have any experience with red dragons.
The simulacrum of Velameestra Windrunner spoke up confirmed red dragons, for those that were familiar with the dragon flights, were known as guardians of life and their breath, while it burned, also fed life into whatever it touched.
Sol changed himself into the guide of an adult red dragon and he breathed a swathe of fire over the soil. The dais glimmered with crimson life energy, and Farodin looked down at the seed. Thalyssra encouraged him to plant it, but he shook his head and handed it over to Thalyssra instead.
Farodin Truebough says: This seed represents the hope of your people. You should be the one to plant it.
Thalyssra Dusklily says: Are you sure?
Farodin nodded. Thalyssra took the seed in her hands and approached the dais.
Thalyssra Dusklily says: I’m sorry to put so much pressure on you. I’m sure you’re already bearing plenty… but you have the hopes and dreams of so many people in your casing. My own, least of all.
She placed her forehead against the seed.
Thalyssra Dusklily says: May you be the first seed of a new dawn. One where we needn’t fear if we’ll see the moonrise.
She set the seed in the pedestal, which latched it in place and ley energy started to hum in Shal’Aran. Orathiss, the shardmaidens, and the other fal’dorei offered their own strength, and vines began to twist through the holes of the seed and spiral together into a network of roots.
