The Sentinels are the primary military force of the kaldorei and serve as the night elven army in engagements throughout Kalimdor. The organization is largely composed of very devout and well-trained warriors, many of which have strong ties to the Sisterhood of Elune. In fact, High Priestess Tyrande Whisperwind forged the Sentinels from the ranks of the sisterhood, whose duty it was to protect their rebuilding society following the War of the Ancients.

History

Membership

The Sentinels were established approximately 600 years after the War of the Ancients and are entirely composed of kaldorei women. For the last ten millennia, the only goal of the Sentinels has been to defend the night elf people. When a night elf women reaches 100 years of age she is inducted to the Sentinels for the next 100 years. Uniform color is based on the environment of where they are stationed and is provided by the nearest . If they stay with the Sentinels after the mandatory 100 years, feathers are added to their uniform, the feather color are their choice.

Ranks

When a Sentinel receives a rank, claws and gems are added to their uniform to easily show this rank. More gems and claws are added as rank goes up. Sentinels also chose gem type and color, though pure white gems are reserved for Priestesses of the Moon. White moons must be clear on a priestess's armor. The standard issued mount for a sentinel is a deer. Sentinels wishing to ride a saber or a hippogryph must serve for a set amount of time and receive special training. To receive a saber, they must be Huntress rank or higher. To receive a hippogryph, they must be a Courier or higher.

Cadet - (Minala) A sentinel in their mandatory 100 years of service, and in training. Basic armor. No flourishes.
Sentinel- (Ethella) Feathers are added to the uniform.
Ranger/Huntress - (Alator/Minn'musha) A sentinel that has received special elite training. Two claws are added to the uniform, as are gems to the belt and helmet. Ranger is elite infantry while Huntress is saber cavalry. Courier deliver messages and information, thus are outfitted with a hippogryph to travel quickly.
Captain - (Nar'Ethella) Two more claws are added to the armor, for a total of four. Gems are added to chest. Captains oversee units or smaller areas.
Commander - (Eldre'Ethella) Two more claws are added, for a total of six. Commanders oversee several captains or entire regions. The General (Shan'Ethella) is the highest ranked commander.
