Affiliations Crawliac

Agara Deathsong was one of the three lieutenants of the High Crawliac, and her name came from the unique, potent qualities of her song, which was capable of causing damage to any that heard it.

Description

Like many harpies, Agara wore little clothing, and she was largely wreathed in jewelry and fetishes that she used for various spells. Her feathers were a deep black, like those of a raven, and the feathers on her head were left loose and wild.

Agara was a cruel creature that utilized the deathsong she was named for with impunity; she had little care for the innocent lives that it harmed, which was evident by the fact she purposely used it to affect the young and elderly tauren that lived in Skyhorn, even though they were not active combatants. Her preferred means of fighting was to stay on the back line where she could use her rotting magics and voice to her advantage, while the undead minions she raised defended her and attacked any that drew near.

Biography

Chapter Five: Civil War

When the war fully started with the High Crawliac, Agara was the first of her lieutenants that was targeted by Rak'Symma, Arthak Saurfang, and the other members of the warband as she had started her deathsong in the cliffs of the Screeching Crag. The melody was capable of traveling great distances and was actively causing harm to the denizens of Skyhorn. To close the distance more quickly, Sol had conjured a large flying vehicle so that they could take the fight to the air.

Agara had used her abilities to also raise a great number of undead to protect her while she sang her deathsong, but Nyxxa Murkthorn, after making a deal with Vaerux to use his abilities, was able to drop a globe of silence over the ship so that the warband would be immune to the deathsong while fighting Agara. Following the strategic decision, the conflict rapidly turned against Agara, as Rak'Symma was able to control the winds and trigger a massive downdraft that swept Agara's flying undead to the ground.

Agara was able to land a devastating blow over the group using her magics of rot and decay, but Arthak was able to use the movement of Sol's ship to cleave off one of the harpy's wings and pin her to the side of the cliff face with fiery chains. Doing so gave Nyxxa the opportunity to consume her soul, fulfilling her end of the deal she made with her inner demon, and permanently imprisoning the harpy's soul within herself. Agara's body was left pinned to the cliff as a warning to any other harpies in the area.

Traits

Spellcasting. Agara Deathsong is a 15th-level spellcaster. Her spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 17, +9 to hit with spell attacks). Agara Deathsong has the following Bard spells prepared:

Deathsong. At the beginning of Agara's turn, she can begin concentrating to sing the Deathsong as long as she didn't take damage since her last turn. The Deathsong can be heard from within 5 miles of Agara. When a non-harpy, non-undead creature begins its turn while hearing the Deathsong, it must make a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw (the DC may be reduced by range). On a failed save, the creature takes 1d4 psychic damage for each point it failed by. If the creature fails by 5 or more, it drops to 0 hit points immediately. Creatures that can hear the Deathsong halve any healing they receive.

Actions

Multiattack. Agara makes two attacks then uses March of the Dead. She can replace one of these attacks with Dirge of Death.

+2 Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1d8 + 4 slashing damage plus 2d8 necrotic damage.

+2 Longbow. Ranged Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, range 150/600 ft., one target. Hit: 1d8 + 4 piercing damage plus 2d8 necrotic damage.

March of the Dead. Up to six undead within 60 feet of Agara and can hear her can use its Reaction to move up to half its speed.

Dirge of Death (Recharge 5-6). Agara Deathsong sings a horrid, mournful lament. This dirge has no effect on constructs and undead. All other creatures within 60 feet of her that can hear her must make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw. On a failure, a creature drops to 0 hit points. On a success, a creature takes 6d6 psychic damage.

Bonus Actions

Dirge. As a Bonus Action, Agara Deathsong can perform a dirge that lasts until the start of her next turn. Agara can select from one of three effects.

  • Song of Horror. Provided Agara isn't Incapacitated, an enemy that starts its turn within 60 feet of Agara Deathsong and can hear her must succeed on a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or become Frightened until the start of its next turn. If a creature's saving throw is successful, the creature is immune to Agara Deathsong's Song of Horror for the next 24 hours.
  • Song of Sorrow. Provided Agara isn't Incapacitated, an enemy that starts its turn within 60 feet of Agara Deathsong and can hear her must succeed on a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or start wailing and weeping in grief until the start of its next turn. Until this wailing and weeping ends, the target can't take Actions or Reactions, and its speed is halved and can't be increased. If a creature's saving throw is successful, the creature is immune to Agara Deathsong's Song of Sorrow for the next 24 hours.
  • Song of the Profane. Provided Agara isn't Incapacitated, any undead that starts its turn within 60 feet of Agara Deathsong and can hear her gains Advantage on melee attack rolls and saving throws against features that turn undead.

Villain Actions

Agara Deathsong has three villain actions. She can take each action once during an encounter after an enemy's turn. She can take these actions in any order, but can use only one per round.

Action 1: Villainous Verse. If Agara is not singing the Deathsong, she begins singing it again. If she is already singing it, creatures must immediately save against it with Disadvantage.

Action 2: Revolting Refrain. Each undead creature of Agara's choice gains temporary hit points equal to the number of undead creatures standing. These creatures gain the benefits of the Song of the Profane while they have these temporary hit points. If an undead gains 10 or more temporary hit points with this ability, it can use its Reaction to move up to its movement speed and make an attack.

Action 3: Emotional Breakdown. Agara Deathsong immediately recharges and uses her Dirge of Death ability with a range of 300 feet. If it was already recharged, creatures have Disadvantage on the saving throw.
