Outland Day 4
Nyxxa says [orcish]: Alright, so we should have a quick talk. So, we should keep conversing in orcish brief as we don’t want to make the elves feel uncomfortable but…
She looks at Halno.
Nyxxa says [orcish]: I don’t know what that was, but are you good for the time being?
Halno says [orcish]: I don’t have the answer you want.
Nyxxa says [orcish]: Are you going to be good for the next day or so?
Halno says [orcish]: I’m just going to go sit in the corner and try to figure out what’s going on.
Nyxxa says [orcish]: Alright. Well, you seem to be with it for now. We’ll talk about this later, but lets focus on making a good impression. We don’t want to make them uncomfortable. But other than that, great job everyone, that was phenomenal.
Azgadaan says [orcish]: Worked out well.
Nyxxa says [orcish]: Do what you need to, but we should be careful not to take anything that may trace us back to this.
Halno looks at his bags.
Halno says [orcish]: Yup. Yup. Yuuuup.
He starts to walk away.
Nyxxa says [orcish]: Wait, before you go, I was going to send Arthak… but we could use a rest.
Halno says [orcish]: No, I’m sure he’s gotten into his own mess.
Nyxxa says [orcish]: Is there somewhere we want to meet up?
Azgadaan says [orcish]: We can figure that out tomorrow.
Nyxxa says [orcish]:Alright. I’ll let him know our status, and one of us can shoot him another message tomorrow. Sound good?
Azgadaan says [orcish]: Perfect.
Halno says [orcish]: Fantastic.
Nyxxa takes out her sending stone to send Arthak.
Nyxxa says [sending]: Arthak, we should finish here by tomorrow. Anywhere you want us to meet you?
Arthak responds with a spot a few miles outside of Hellfire in the canyon.
The group discuss their next steps, and a lot of the demons are dropped into the acid to destroy the bodies and any evidence that remains. They find some rezzi around as well as evidence of torture implements.
The group also takes a brief rest to recover some of their strength and mend some wounds. Nyxxa suggests that they stay near the elves until they are on their way, just as added insurance against ambushing.
During the rest, Nyxxa approaches Zaeneas at the elven camp 50-100ft away from the warband’s own camp. He was slightly on the outskirts poking around the area for anything interesting and throwing knives into the trunk of a petrified tree.
He notices Nyxxa as she approaches.
Zaeneas Emberlight says: Need something?
Nyxxa says: Just wanted to check if you were alright. That and… I remembered what you said, and I wanted to clarify. I don’t think anything that happened here makes up for anything that happened before.
Zaeneas finishes sharpening a knife and sets it aside.
Zaeneas Emberlight says: I’m glad we’re on the same page then.
Nyxxa says: I think you’re perfectly justified. I don’t blame you.
Zaeneas squints.
Zaeneas Emberlight says: So what is it you’re after anyways?
Nyxxa says: Well…
Nyxxa scratches the back of her head.
Nyxxa says: You… seem like you’ve been through a lot.
Zaeneas looks Nyxxa up and down.
Zaeneas Emberlight says: You don’t say.
Nyxxa says: And well, I know this doesn’t make up for anything really, but I had an idea I thought I’d run by you.
Zaeneas Emberlight says: Well you got my attention. You got that much with this stunt your demon and orc friends pulled off.
Nyxxa says: Well, I understand the feeling of wanting to beat the shit out of a demon. I know the focus here was on rescue, so you didn’t get a lot of that, so I was wondering if you wanted to spar with me.
Zaeneas laughs.
Nyxxa says: Just. Everything you’ve been feeling or put through, and a demon to take it out on, so-to-speak. In an environment with less stakes.
Zaeneas looks Nyxxa up and down and jumps to his feet. He crosses his arms.
Zaeneas Emberlight says: Your name was Nyxxa, right?
Nyxxa says: Correct.
Zaeneas Emberlight says: Look. I’m pretty sure that if I picked up any number of these…
He nudges one of the daggers.
Zaeneas Emberlight says: And I went to town on you and the rest of your friends, I don’t think it would make me feel better. I’m aware. At the same time, you… you’ve got some pretty interesting moves. You and that Loramus guy. You called yourselves demon hunters.
Nyxxa nods.
Zaeneas Emberlight says: I guess I’m a bit interested to see how that technique holds up in person. I’ve never seen people fight with weapons quite like that. The closest I’ve seen is the spellbreakers, but that’s too big in comparison.
Nyxxa withdraws her original weapons.
Nyxxa says: These weapons are a specific choice. You get your hands nicked up a lot learning.
Zaeneas Emberlight says: I imagine that. I played with knives enough as a kid. Mind if I take a look?
Nyxxa says: Sure.
She holds out the weapons and Zaeneas takes them. He tosses one a few times and swings it forward and back.
Zaeneas Emberlight says: Doesn’t exactly seem like a sensible weapon at first… I can see how this would be hard to adapt fighting to.
Nyxxa says: Worth it if the demon corpses are any indication.
Zaeneas looks at Nyxxa.
Zaeneas Emberlight says: Alright. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to get some pent up energy out. But I want to give these things a spin, if you don’t mind.
Nyxxa says: Oh. Sure. You’ll be okay?
Zaeneas Emberlight says: Heh. Trust me. If I cut myself, I felt worse.
Subconsciously, Zaeneas brushes his bangs out of his face near the scar across his eye. He does a few practice swings, flips, and kicks, and then Zaeneas drops into a stance facing Nyxxa.
Zaeneas Emberlight says: Lets see how these things work. Don’t worry, I’ll try not to cut you.
Nyxxa says: Wouldn’t be a problem. As you said, I’ve had worse.
Zaeneas smirks and rushes forward, and Nyxxa slips around and grabs one of the abandoned daggers. Her first strike misses, but her second connects as Zaeneas tries to block it.
Nyxxa says: No offense, kid, but the other glaives could accidentally steal your soul.
Zaeneas returns with his own rapid series of strikes, and one of them cuts off an inch of fur next to Nyxxa’s leg. He is showing a good deal of finesse for someone not used to such weapons.
Nyxxa says: Not bad!
Nyxxa then goes in again, and Zaeneas tries to do duck and weave out of the way, but Nyxxa is able to get through and tap him with the blunt of the dagger and kicks of her hooves. She manages to knock one of the glaives free.
However, Zaeneas turns the situation around and knocks Nyxxa onto her back. She grins up at him, and then rolls back and pulls her hooves back. She kicks herself up and gets him straight in the chest, sending Zaeneas spilling onto his back.
Zaeneas Emberlight says: Shit. You’re good.
Nyxxa says: You had me there for a moment.
Nyxxa extends a hand, which Zaeneas accepts.
Zaeneas Emberlight says: Yeah. I had something. At least I don’t have broken ribs.
Nyxxa says: Sorry.
Zaeneas Emberlight says: No no, that was good.
Zaeneas retrieves the glaives and holds them back out to Nyxxa.
Zaeneas Emberlight says: These things are pretty badass, not gonna lie.
Nyxxa says: Why don’t you hang onto them?
Zaeneas Emberlight says: Well… they’re yours.
Nyxxa says: They were mine when I was a student. The first ones I made. Their name is Tor'thero.
Zaeneas mouths the words.
Zaeneas Emberlight says: That’s not elvish dialect I know.
Nyxxa says: It would be ancient for your people. Darnassian.
Zaeneas Emberlight says: Well what’s it mean?
Nyxxa grins.
Nyxxa says: It means several things. First off, "blade of the student". But, if said in a certain way, it can be a battle cry. You see, in Darnassian, the word for student is the same as the word suffer. So, as a battle cry, "just let me suffer".
Zaeneas Emberlight says: Ain’t you poetic.
Nyxxa says: Sometimes I manage.
Zaeneas shrugs.
Zaeneas Emberlight says: Well, I’m not gonna say no to some new toys.
Nyxxa says: You seem to have a knack for it. Maybe you can bully Loramus into giving you some tips. Do be kind though. I don’t think this was the work he was assigned to do. But he’s better suited than I would be.
He looks back to Loramus who is sitting on a rock in some sort of meditation.
Nyxxa says: But you seem to be in better spirits.
Zaeneas Emberlight says: Maybe you were right. Though I’m the one who got the shit beat out of me.
Nyxxa says: You scared me for a second there.
Zaeneas Emberlight says: Never did have siblings to get hand-me-downs from, so this’ll have to do. Thanks.
Nyxxa says: Thanks for hearing me out. Guess it just makes us even.
Zaeneas Emberlight says: Guess so. Next time I’ll make sure I can use these better.
Nyxxa says: I have no doubt you’ll be able to master them.
Zaeneas smirks and goes back to sharpening his daggers. However, after a few minutes, Nyxxa catches him looking at his new weapons. Some of the other elves had been watching and talking amongst themselves in Thalassian.
Meanwhile, Arthak had sent word that he wanted to speak with Mar’tak and the Siegemaster and the Maker, and he got word back that they were willing to speak with him. In the meanwhile, he had made some technical sketches of what he had in mind.
Arthak heads out into the yards to meet the pair. There are a multitude of canons, Legion weapons, and also augmentations as bits of fel reavers.
Mar’tak is bent over working on something, and the mo’arg--the Maker--is nearby. The only flesh visible is part of his face. He has massive metal claws that have dozens of different tools on them, and he seems to have an off-white work tunic that is permanently stained with deep, blackish red and blood and singed with fire.
Upon seeing Arthak, Mar’tak stands.
Siegemaster Mar'tak says: So, you’re Arthak, are you? Heard you wanted to speak with us.
Arthak Saurfang says: Correct.
'The Maker says: Well! Make it quick, my time is in high demand! Mannoroth’s armies will not make themselves!
Arthak Saurfang says: Well. Lets get into it then.
Arthak pulls out his schematics and rolls them out. Mar’tak shoves a bunch of tools aside.
Arthak Saurfang says: So, as both of you know, our primary objective, at least as Lord Mannoroth has decreed, is the destruction of the dragon Sinestra.
Siegemaster Mar'tak says: One of our many goals, but yes.
Arthak Saurfang says: Well, the one I’ve been brought on for. So. In pursuit of that, I’ve brought us all here together along with a few concepts for the anti-dragon munitions. Things we might be able to produce to speed the task when it comes time to directly engage.
Siegemaster Mar'tak says: Go on.
Arthak Saurfang says: Some of these… are more theoretical than the others. It requires magical insights I lack, but the concept would be useful.
He pulls one page forward.
Arthak Saurfang says: The basic premise is one a hunter would recognize. Namely, a barbed net.
Arthak outlines a ballista-mounted net projectile that would break apart and release a large net with barbs designed to hook into scales.
Mar'tak nods.
Siegemaster Mar'tak says: Simple enough, but effective.
Arthak Saurfang says: The tricky part is the theoretical aspect. If enchantments or perhaps fel technology could be added into the net to conduct the fel through the net, it binds the target once it hits, and fel fire or powers of the burning nether flow into the target while they are bound.
The Maker leans forward, his eye inside the cybernetics enhanced.
The Maker says: Yes, yes! This would be very interesting! Fel conductors! That would be painful, and we could make it more painful! Yes, yes, more than a couple ideas!
Arthak Saurfang says: Good, pain causes muscles to tighten, which causes hooks to bite deeper.
The Maker says: Ha! Even better, instead of worrying about siege equipment and how difficult it is to bring with it, we could just mount it on a dire orc!
Arthak Saurfang says: Whatever logistics are required. That is one of the concepts. This one is more of an execution tool.
He pulls out another paper, and this one looks like a large harpoon with backward-facing barbs.
Arthak Saurfang says: We have simple explosives that work like this. Similar theory. You pull a pin from it, which allows the explosive to go off. In this case, these barbs are the pins. Essentially, lodge it in the target, and should they attempt to pull it out, the head stays and then goes off.
A glint appears in Mar'tak’s eye.
Siegemaster Mar'tak says: We could definitely make something like this. This might come in handy. We could certainly make do with something similar. I will send these blueprints to some of my siege workers at the forge camps. We’ll see what we can put together.
Arthak Saurfang says: Excellent. There are a few other smaller designs.
He pulls out a few other papers and spends the time going over the theoretics of them. Arthak gets the sense that Mar’tak is extremely passionate about her work, to the same level Arthak has for the blades he forges. Meanwhile, he gets the sense that the Maker sees every other living creature--including himself--as an opportunity for experimentation. He was also checking out Arthak periodically, potentially eying up the possibilities.
At one point, the Maker asked Arthak why he didn’t replace his missing eye with a replacement.
Arthak Saurfang says: How would it work?
The Maker says: Quite simply, you see! It wouldn’t be too difficult! You simply attach the nerve endings to some nodes, and the orb will let you see things! Throw a few more modifications in for defense protocols and other situations…
The Maker also recommends becoming a fel orc to dull pain.
Afterwards, Arthak goes to find Azuka, who is a bit on edge, but interested.
Arthak Saurfang says: Azuka. The magic that Nyxxa has to see things that might be observing… can you do that?
Azuka shakes her head.
Arthak Saurfang says: Unfortunate. It is what it is. While we’re here, I’m going to be busy with those two. But I have something I would ask you to do if you’re willing.
Azuka looks interested.
Arthak Saurfang says: It is dangerous, and if it goes poorly, you would be at risk, and I would likely have to come to your rescue. But we need information. As I’ve told you before, knowledge is our greatest weapon, and right now we don’t have enough.
Azuka Stormbreaker says: What do you want me to look into? Just anything interesting?
Arthak Saurfang says: Yes, but also… the Lord we encountered on the way in. Anything about him. What he’s been doing. Why he’s here. And if there are a few names I would give you… if they came up at any point, I would like to know.
Azuka nods.
Azuka Stormbreaker says: I get it.
Arthak Saurfang says: Nothing too risky. Just listen and don’t be seen.
Arthak passes Azuka a list of names: Jaraxxus, Culuthas, Arzeth, and Kaylaan.
Arthak Saurfang says: Memorize the names, and then burn it.
Azuka’s eyes go over the list and then she crumples it up and ignites it with druidcraft. It quickly burns away.
Azuka Stormbreaker says: Okay. I’ll try to be as discreet as I can.
Arthak Saurfang says: If anything happens… do you have magic that can contact me?
Azuka Stormbreaker says: I’ll get to you somehow.
Arthak Saurfang says: Good.
Arthak leaves her to it.
That night, Azuka doesn’t come back.
However, Omor the Unscarred--the violet terrorfiend--had taken an interest in Arthak, and he offered to introduce him to Magtheridon at the Black Temple. He seemed most interested because of his relation to Broxigar, as well as the history Arthak has with killing chieftains.
He also caught the observer watching him a few times, though he seemed to be watching a lot of people.
Back with the rest of the warband, Azgadaan was checking on Levia who was largely just snoozing. She pops an eye open.
Levia Blackflight says: Just resting my eyes. What’s up?
Azgadaan says: Just making sure you’re alright. You deserve that nap. You did really well.
Levia Blackflight says: Thanks. Didn’t expect to go plundering ancient tombs, but it’s a good thing I was there.
Azgadaan says: Yeah. That spell did a number on that creature.
Levia Blackflight says: I honestly can’t tell you how I did it.
Azgadaan says: That’s a little concerning. Would you like some help with that?
Levia Blackflight says: If there’s anything you know, sure, but honestly I’m at a loss. Before the fall of Silvermoon I was a mage. I was a magistrix, well, was working on that. And honestly I operated more like what you’d expect from a warlock, but after everything happened… well, it’s the same reason I can channel healing magics now. It’s weird, and I don’t know what it’s all about, but here we are.
Azgadaan says: Huh. Well. If you’d like to learn more about it, I could try to assist you. I’m proficient in a few things. Little of this, little of that.
Levia Blackflight says: I… I don’t want to bother you with any of this.
Azgadaan says: Bother me? You’re a friend! If we know what it is, you can better control it.
Levia chews on her lip.
Levia Blackflight says: I guess… I think I’m just a little afraid to find out why. Cause, uh, I have a few ideas.
Azgadaan says: Do you?
Levia Blackflight says: Yeah. I’ve done some pretty bad stuff, Azgadaan. I’ve done some pretty terrible things to people that didn’t deserve it. I… I was never really a church girl, as you might have guessed. I never put much stock in the faith of the Light…
Azgadaan gets a sympathetic look.
Levia Blackflight says: I don’t know if this is some sort of penance or curse for what I did… for the things I helped bring about to so many innocent people. I still have some of the abilities and skills I had before, but it’s different. It’s… I feel like I’m being watched.
Azgadaan says: Hm…
Levia Blackflight says: But I’m not gonna lie, part of the reason that I was dozing was because I was hoping that feeling would go away, but it hasn’t. Nothing is here, I know, Nyxxa’s checked, but…
Azgadaan says: You are channeling Light spells. Maybe a naaru is watching you? Or a strange being? It doesn’t seem like it wants to harm you, or us, so, if we look into it it shouldn’t be anything too problematic. Besides. Finding out what’s going on with you would be nice, because I had a lot of issues with my own abilities. Especially in the last year. It seemed like it changed every three months. It’s been strange.
Levia Blackflight says: I’m sure there’s an answer… just sometimes… I’m used to running from problems. From things that scare me. The concept of facing them is, uh… I don’t know. It’s tough.
Azgadaan says: Well, you didn’t have me around then! Sure we can face it together.
Levia Blackflight says: Yeah, I guess you’re right. Thanks, Azgadaan. I, uh… I don’t know what we’ll find, and don’t know if it’s a good idea to snoop, but…
Azgadaan says: If you just gained this power and someone is watching, they’re already involved. So they know if they look at you, you’ll eventually look back.
Levia Blackflight says: Yeah, maybe. But, uh… what the hell is a naaru?
Azgadaan says: Oh. Right. They’re… they’re like a sapient windchime.
Levia Blackflight says: Huh.
Azgadaan says: Probably the closest thing you have. It basically is the Light. It’s strange, but interesting.
Levia shrugs.
Levia Blackflight says: Gotta wonder what the rest of the Church of the Holy Light on Azeroth would think about that. Not my problem.
Azgadaan says: They might now know. I had someone go over there that really liked their sapient windchimes, so they might have already found out.
Levia Blackflight says: Yeah, maybe. Guess we’ll know if we head back and there’s windchimes around?
Azgadaan says: The next time I dream you I can show you.
Levia Blackflight says: It’s not a big deal. I haven’t heard windchimes if that’s what you know.
Azgadaan makes a faint sound of windchimes with magic and Levia leans back against the tree.
Levia Blackflight says: So. What do you make of all this?
Azgadaan says: Out of your powers?
Levia Blackflight says: No, no, sorry, this whole situation. Like, you were born a demon in the Twisting Nether and just helped take down a bunch of, well… this isn’t gonna get any easier for you, Azzy. You uh… you sure you’ll be alright?
Azgadaan says: I’ll show you something tomorrow night, if that’s alright?
Levia nods.
Levia Blackflight says: Yeah, sure, and we don’t have to talk about it right now or anything, but eventually this stuff is gonna catch up to us. I know what it’s like to be alone, to be on the run from… a lot of things, so, if you ever need some help, or just to scream or break something? Just let me know, alright?
Azgadaan says: I will. Thank you. And if you want some place more comfortable, there are beds inside the tent.
Levia Blackflight says: I’ll probably make my way there eventually, but right now I just want to look at whatever the hell the sky is doing here for now. It’s beautiful in a strange kind of way.
Azgadaan says: Reminiscent of Argus but… it’s alright. Anyway, if you need me, I’ll be in the tent or the ship.
Levia Blackflight says: Sure thing.
Azgadaan says: Talk to you later.
Levia smiles and closes her eyes again to return to her little nap.
Nyxxa goes to speak with with Loramus and waits as he is meditating.
Loramus Thalipedes says [darnassian]: You may speak.
Nyxxa says [darnassian]: Yeah. I just wanted to talk to you, because I know you’re taking a big risk here.
Loramus sheathes the dagger and hops off the stone.
Loramus Thalipedes says [darnassian]: I spoke with the girl. She believes I will be no risk, and I will ensure that is not the case. I understand there are individuals that may take umbrage, but I will handle it accordingly. I would prefer not to reveal myself to outsiders, but it is far too late for that.
Nyxxa says [darnassian]: If there’s anything I can do to make it up to you for that…
Loramus Thalipedes says [darnassian]: Nothing needs to be made up for, ultimately. Your foolhardy plan worked in my benefit. In spite of everything, I had not realized the Questioner had twisted the spirits in this place. Your… intrusion allowed me to expedite that process. Though I will still need to barter with Allari to pry the secrets I need from that inquisitor’s fel-pocked maw, I will still be able to do so more efficiently than I could before.
Nyxxa smiles.
Nyxxa says [darnassian]: Maybe we can turn this into a boon for us.
Loramus Thalipedes says [darnassian]: perhaps. But if she seeks to become Illidari, she’s going to be in for a rude awakening.
Nyxxa says [darnassian]: It’s not easy, but seeing what these people have been through and done even just now… I think they’re more ready for it than you might think.
Loramus sighs.
Loramus Thalipedes says [darnassian]: perhaps. I know the rituals. I can uphold my end. I was one of the first. I’ve seen this done, and I’ve seen many people take their own lives if the process itself didn’t kill them.
Nyxxa says [darnassian]: Yeah. Still.
Loramus Thalipedes says [darnassian]: It is their choice. They will be appraised of the risks involved.
Nyxxa says [darnassian]: I can talk to her about it too.
Loramus Thalipedes says [darnassian]: if you wish. Feel no obligation, it is out of your hands.
Nyxxa says [darnassian]: I have to continue on my mission.
Loramus Thalipedes says [darnassian]: And I mine. She holds power, and the key to Razelikh’s location and name. So I will play along with their games for now.
Nyxxa says [darnassian]: Well, sometimes the braver thing is working with others.
Nyxxa smiles and Loramus’s lips knit together.
Loramus Thalipedes says [darnassian]: Perhaps you should seek Altruis. You would get along.
Nyxxa says [darnassian]: I’m not sure if that’s a compliment or not.
Loramus Thalipedes says [darnassian]: Take it as you will.
Nyxxa says [darnassian]: I haven’t forgot what you said earlier. I know I’m a fool, but when my options are a fool or a monster, I’ll take fool.
She grins.
Loramus Thalipedes says [darnassian]: I’m not surprised the Slayer chose you for her operations.
Nyxxa says [darnassian]: I honestly can’t remember why… or that whole conversation. But it’ll be good to see them again, and to be honest, I don’t think I’m cut out for spy work forever.
Loramus offers a humorless smirk.
Loramus Thalipedes says [darnassian]: Absolutely not.
Nyxxa laughs.
Loramus Thalipedes says [darnassian]: But I believe the time for subterfuge is coming to an end.
Nyxxa says [darnassian]: And you work with what you got, right? But, good luck.
Loramus Thalipedes says [darnassian]: The same to you, Nyxxa.
Nyxxa says [darnassian]: It was good to meet you.
Loramus Thalipedes says [darnassian]: May both of our operations come to a swift and beneficial conclusion ere we meet next. Perhaps then we may have more… extended conversation. And if we don’t, die well.
Nyxxa sees Allari not far away. The scythe is against her lap, and she is drinking from a flask and seems a bit inebriated. Nyxxa waves at her, but leaves her alone for the time being.
That night, Nyxxa gets a message from Khadgar.
Khadgar says [sending]: Good evening, my friend! Just figured I would check up on things to make sure you haven’t gotten yourself killed. How are things?
Nyxxa says [sending]: The deed is done! None of us really worse for wear. We weren’t able to rescue everything, but it went well. I might do well to warn you that you may have a bit of a paladin headache on the way, but nothing worse than me.
Khadgar says [sending]: Is that so? You wouldn’t mind a spoiler so I could lay some groundwork?
Nyxxa says [sending]: Sure. Well. I ran into one of my own. He was on a mission in this area and wanted to deal with the inquisitor. Long story short… Allari dealt with him for him and is now coercing him to teach her some things, and, well… certainly interesting. The demon hunter in question will be brought back to Honor Hold, but she will make sure nothing will happen to him. I can talk to her and make sure she doesn’t throw you under the cart.
Khadgar says [sending]: Hahaha. That would be appreciated.
The laugh, being written out on Khadgar's end, doesn't translate well.
Nyxxa says [sending]: I’m probably gonna talk to her and tell her to do the whole ‘we were never here’ thing, but maybe catch up in the future. Also, um, something I wanted to ask you…
Khadgar says [sending]: I would lie if I said I wasn’t interested in meeting another of your kind. I will ensure that he is welcomed as well as he can be. I am not surprised. It seems members of the Magistrate are notoriously ambitious. But, you were saying…
Nyxxa says [sending]: It was pretty damn impressive what she did. As for him, he’s more sullen and doesn’t talk as much. I set a strange example for my people-people. But I guess I… if you’d be willing… I’d like to speak more on things with you in a more face-to-face sort of matter, and a friend of mine has a spell he can use to converse in dreams, and I was wondering if that would be alright?
Khadgar says [sending]: Hahaha. Well, I should not be surprised a satyr seeks to be the woman running through my dreams, but you are, of course, always welcome.
Nyxxa makes a noise that likely did not translate well into text.
Nyxxa says [sending]: Well, as long as you’re okay with it, I wouldn’t want to impose. Hahaha. While we’re on the subject of questions, I had another dumb one for you…
Khadgar says [sending]: There’s no such thing as a stupid question.
Nyxxa says [sending]: Well, more a silly one. I was thinking of you in that raven form, and I was wondering… have you ever gotten scritched on the head in your raven form?
There is a solid moment of silence.
Nyxxa says [sending]: I told you it was dumb.
Khadgar says [sending]: I apologize, I laughed so hard I knocked my inkwell off the table.
Nyxxa says [sending]: Well, I was turned into a cat before, and, so… but yeah…
Khadgar says [sending]: Truth be told, no I have not, and now that you say something about it, I feel like I have been missing out.
Nyxxa says [sending]: Maybe something I can do next time I see you!
There is another solid moment of no response.
Khadgar says [sending]: I suppose we’ll have to see. But I should be getting rest.
Nyxxa says [sending]: Of course! Sorry! Dumb question! But, yeah…
Khadgar says [sending]: Sweet dreams.
'''Nyxxa says [sending]: To you as well.
Allari then heads over to Nyxxa.
Allari Elburn says: We’ll be setting some people up on watch to ensure you all don’t try something. No offense.
Nyxxa says: Of course. I understand. First, I wanted to say, that was super impressive, and I wanted to just ask where you’re going from here with all this?
Allari smiles, still a bit tipsy.
Allari Elburn says: Well, we’ll be making our way back to Honor Hold to debrief everything. But that Loramus fellow, your friend. The two of you have a lot of secrets. Turns out I like knowing stuff like that. Not knowing secrets lead to my nation burning. I don’t intend on that happening again. Where do I intend on going? Wherever I need to.
Nyxxa says: It’s a tough path, but I think you’re cut out for it.
Allari Elburn says: I guess we’ll find out, one way or another.
Nyxxa says: As far as things are concerned, I’m leaving Loramus in your capable hands. I know he’s rough, but please make sure nothing happens to him, okay?
Allari Elburn says: I’ll do my best. He seems to have a tendency to run into trouble, but what man doesn’t?
Nyxxa says: Well, I’ve been on the business end of a paladin’s hammer…
Allari Elburn says: You won’t need to worry. Turalyon uses a blade conjured from Light, so it’s much worse.
Nyxxa says: Oh! Much worse! But, I would appreciate you not throwing Khadgar under the cart… this was a secret. The only reason I told you guys was I didn’t want us to die.
Allari Elburn says: I understand. I’ll ensure we leave certain details out. Whatever you’re all doing is clearly insane. If you are trying to stick it to the demons, I won’t risk your chances, so you won’t need to worry about me.
Nyxxa says: That’s good. What we’re doing is insane, perhaps impossible, but worth it. Our home is worth it.
Allari smiles.
Allari Elburn says: I can drink to that.
She finishes what’s left of her glass.
Allari Elburn says: I’m glad we ran into you. Sorry it was a bit more forceful than you may have wanted, but we may not have saved our people without you. I don’t trust you fully, but thank you regardless.
Nyxxa says: I don’t blame you. I’m glad we could help. Look, on this thing we’re doing, a lot of bridges have been burned. Not something I liked doing, but eventually… I just want to show… I guess… in this big battle, it’s gonna be a lot easier to pull this off if we can aim at the beast’s head instead of the toes. So I want to show people where that head is, if that makes sense? Because they’ll want people aiming for the toes.
Allari smiles.
Allari Elburn says: I think I had a bit too much to drink to follow you completely, but I got the gist.
Nyxxa says: I don’t want to sound dire, and I don’t want to make light of your suffering, but what happened to your home… that’s only the tip of the iceberg. That’s only the beginning. The last time this happened, we only barely won, and the world was sundered for it, and they won’t be pulling punches this time.
Allari Elburn says: if this is only the beginning, I suppose it’s up to us to see it through to the end.
Nyxxa smiles.
Nyxxa says: I’m happy to have you along for the fight.
Allari Elburn says: I’d rather be on this side than that one.
Allari glances to the completely dissolved demon bodies beneath the acid.
Nyxxa says: Good luck.
Allari nods and turns to return to her people.
Allari Elburn says: We’ll be gone in the morning.
Nyxxa says: And we’ll be gone shortly after.
The groups start to get ready to rest for the evening, but Halno approaches Nyxxa.
Halno says: Nyxxa. Come here.
Nyxxa says: Okay? You don’t need to be sneaky about it… what do you need?
Halno says: Do you think you could talk to the girl with the scythe with me for a minute?
Nyxxa says: Sure.. what do you want from her?
Halno says: I’m curious if she’s able to, uh, figure out what the heck is wrong with this thing.
He points at his scepter.
Nyxxa says: Hm. Well. We can try and ask…
Halno says: If you would please, yes.
Nyxxa says: Do you want to ask, or do you want me to ask for you?
Halno says: Well, given my track record…
Nyxxa says: Alright. I’ll see what I can do. You’re asking if the scythe would be useful in checking in with what’s going on with your scepter?
Halno says: Yeah. I don’t know what’s gone wrong.
Nyxxa says: Alright.
Nyxxa and Halno start to head off after Allari.
Nyxxa says: Sorry to bother you again!
Allari Elburn says: Looks like I’m popular.
Nyxxa says: You would be after that. But, my friend had a question for you… I guess, simply put, he’s having some magical troubles and was wondering if you would be willing to see if the scythe could help him with it?
Allari looks at Halno hard and glances back to the group.
Allari Elburn says: Sorry guys, I’ll be back to set the dome up in a moment.
She heads off with the pair.
Allari Elburn says: Alright, what’s going on?
Nyxxa says: I’ll allow you to explain it, Halno.
Halno is not wearing his mask, but Allari doesn't seem to recognize him.
Halno says: Well, without getting into too much detail… I’m kind of a mixture of souls at the moment.
Allari Elburn says: You’re not exactly an elf, are you?
Halno says: I don’t know how to answer that question anymore to be honest? Six months ago I would have said no, but now I don’t know.
Nyxxa says: An experiment may be the best way to put it.
Halno says: Definitely an experiment.
Allari Elburn says: I see. Well, I’m not an expert on this.
Halno says: No, but I recall seeing the scythe bind that demon well, and I was wondering if it might be able to… maybe have some level of ability to, I don’t know, figure something out with this mess.
Allari looks at the scythe for a moment.
Allari Elburn says: I haven’t had long to study it… but I do know a few things it seems to be able to do. For starters… I could almost certainly force answers out of you. This thing seems to be able to exert control over others, to force answers from them, but… whatever is going on with you? I don’t know what it would do to you.
Halno says: I see. That’s unfortunate. I don’t suppose you know any experts on the soul?
Allari Elburn says: Normally magics like that aren’t practiced openly amongst the magistrate, and just about any of those individuals wouldn’t be forthcoming, but your best bet would be to try and contact some of the most powerful mages we know of, if not one of the demons. I’m certain many of them have information on this.
Halno says: Hard to ask.
Allari Elburn says: I had a feeling.
Nyxxa raises an eyebrow at Halno.
Nyxxa says: What’s your issue with…?
Halno says: What’s my issue with demons?
Nyxxa says: Or just any of us? Aside from me.
Halno says: Well. If I need a sword made, I’ll got to Arthak. I’m not sure what the deal with Azgadaan is to be perfectly blunt with you.
Nyxxa says: Honestly I trust him more than I trust you.
Halno says: That’s fair. And regrettably, as far as the Broken Blade is concerned, I doubt they have as much expertise as I do.
Nyxxa says: It’s always worth asking Azgadaan at least…
Allari narrows her eyes.
Allari Elburn says: Did you say the Broken Blade?
Halno says: I… did…?
Allari glances back to the warband.
Allari Elburn says: So these orcs are involved with them?
Halno says: Yes. We’re trying to…
He looks to Nyxxa.
Halno says: I think mend fences is the term?
Allari sighs.
Allari Elburn says: I’m not going to start killing you over this.
Nyxxa says: It’s complicated.
Allari Elburn says: I get that. But their leader killed a war hero of our people. If the rest of my people learned about this? They may not be so familiar. Kayn especially looked up to him and trained under him. Be careful.
Halno says: I see.
Nyxxa says: It’s good to know at the very least…
Allari Elburn says: I won’t say it’s like my people know a whole lot about the orcs, but we know a male orc that carried the banner with a shattered blade on it is carrying Quel’delar around like a trophy. You better keep that close at hand unless you want some powerful enemies. Consider this a warning.
Nyxxa says: I… appreciate it.
Halno says: I also appreciate it. It’s, uh, unfortunate that you weren’t able to… wait, this isn’t right. Thank you for your help.
Allari Elburn says: You’re not good at this talking thing, are you? If you’re willing, I can try something, but I can’t guarantee it’s going to feel good. If there’s some amalgamation of souls you’re dealing with, I might be able to… how do I even put this. Isolate them. If you’re dealing with some sort of possession? I might be able to trim the fat. What I can’t promise is what will be left after that. This thing is a demon artifact. I can do my best, but I can’t guarantee there would be much left. Not yet anyway. Maybe in time once I understand more about it.
Halno says: That is the best I could hope for, and that’s mostly what I wanted to know. If it could be helpful.
Allari Elburn says: It could. Or terribly harmful. Or both. In the meantime… well… if you’re looking for info about soul manipulation, your best bet is talking to magi that might know more. I don’t know how you’d get ahold of him, but the Grand Magister is one of the most powerful magi among the elves. I don’t know him personally, but he is powerful, and he may know more than me. There’s also the Guardian. He’s been gone for ten years, but he comes from a lineage that is as old as the Magistrate itself. Or his tower may have answers. Not to leave out the hedge mages. Just because that research is illegal doesn’t mean that people don’t look into it. People have left the Kirin Tor and the Magistrate to pursue more esoteric study.
Halno says: I see. That’s helpful.
Allari Elburn says: It’s the least I can do for what you’ve done for me.
Halno says: Alright. I’ll let you get back to your friends now.
Nyxxa puts a hand on Halno’s shoulder.
Nyxxa says: We need to talk first.
Allari Elburn says: I’ll leave that to you.
Allari glances back at the pair of them as she leaves, her eyes glowing faintly. She's clearly using some sort of divination magic on Halno.
Nyxxa says: That was… exceptionally careless Halno.
Halno blinks.
Nyxxa says: Look. I know this was a very big risk, but we need to be extremely careful about what we say. I know you know that, but between that and what happened earlier… I’m hardly in a place to judge about a person losing control of the powers at play in their own selves, but… anything that jeopardizes what we’re doing could be fatal for us, or Arthak. That could have been bad. That could have undone everything we did today, and I work towards. Do you understand me?
Halno stares at Nyxxa.
Halno says: That’s been the case the whole time, Nyxxa. Not just now. But since all of this started. Far before you got involved here.
Nyxxa says: Then you should know better than I.
Halno says: True. And how do you suppose she would respond to you keeping all that from her later? Betrayed maybe?
Nyxxa says: Ultimately--
Halno says: A moot point.
Nyxxa says: Neither of us are being entirely honest. This is coming down to what we all need to know.
Nyxxa uses see invisibility.
Nyxxa says: There are things I need to hide from all of you, and I expect not everything will be taken well, but ultimately it is what it is. We have to put forward our best feet, not all of them, and when it comes to that bridge we’ll cross it, but that’s not what we have to worry about right now.
Halno just stares at Nyxxa.
Nyxxa says: I know you probably take me for a fool.
Halno says: I actually haven’t met too many fools lately. People play at fools.
Nyxxa says: I like acting true to myself, but I know what I’m doing. And I’m far be it to judge you, and the more we fight together, I may lose control of myself and I’ll be in the same boat as you, but regardless of my mannerisms and the kindness I have shown you, if you become a problem, I won’t hesitate.
Halno leans real close to Nyxxa.
Halno says: You were never supposed to hesitate. Have a good night, Nyxxa.
Nyxxa says: … good night, Halno.
She lets Halno go, and Nyxxa sighs.
That night, Nyxxa had a dream. She was an arakkoa, running with her comrades. Slowly but surely, more and more of her companions disappeared, and she finds herself in the shadow of Hellfire Citadel. She was surrounded by orcs. She brandishes her weapons, the same ones wielded by the spirit, and she fought as hard as she could. However, her endurance wavers, and her strength fades, until her body gives out.
As soon as her head hits the ground, she’s running through the jungle again. She was able to save more people, but each time, the same orc cuts her down. He is a massive orc in heavy black armor with a massive warhammer. He’s their warchief. She calls to him to fight in single combat, but every time she is crushed.
It happens again. And again. And again.
Nyxxa isn’t sure how she slept through that experience, but she recognized the orc as Blackhand in his fully fighting capacity.
Outland Day 5
The next day, the warband awakens, and the elves are completely gone. The pack into the vehicle.
Nyxxa says: So. Now that we’re all here in one place. Halno, what was that?
Halno says: I have no idea, Nyxxa. I got hit by acid. I seem to recall really wanting to kill the vilefiend. I made a giant hand, and I wanted to beat it until it stopped moving. And then I wanted to drain the life from it, and anything else that got in the way.
Halno shrugs.
Levia Blackflight says: To be fair, you did do most of those things, so congratulations.
Halno says: Thanks? I think the part where I tried to drain the life from everything in between was the problem.
Levia blinks and thinks back to the fight, and then she squints at Halno.
Halno says: Apologies, I turned a lightning bolt into a necrotic one and tried to hit you.
Azgadaan says: And then I got rid of it.
Halno says: And he got rid of it.
Levia Blackflight says: Thank you, Azgadaan. I appreciate not getting blightning bolt to death.
Halno says: That’s a good name! But that wasn’t me.
Levia Blackflight says: What was it?
Halno says: I think when I let Sylvos out, I fucked my scepter up the same way.
Azgadaan says: Well. We can test that theory. We can land, knock you out, and see what happens.
Halno says: That’s a poor idea. Do you wanna?
Levia Blackflight says: I don’t think we should.
Halno says: To be honest, I think the result we had this time was a better case scenario.
Levia Blackflight says: I think you’re right…
Halno pulls out the other scepter.
Halno says: This one is completely batshit insane everything single time.
Nyxxa says: Well, the one thing we can discern is you need to be more careful when it comes to taking hits.
Halno says: Yeah. Severe trauma of any kind.
Nyxxa says: Again.
Halno says: You do know I don’t go out of my way to get punched in the face, right?
Nyxxa says: I do, and the rest of us need to take it to consideration. I’m willing to adapt around it. I too need to be careful with those sorts of things, as much as I wish everyone would adapt around me--
Halno says: On the upside, I developed a spell. With sufficient preparation and not an ambush, I should remain relatively safe. Even after the initial incident, I adapted my strategy to avoid… getting caught up in their deal.
He gestures at Azgadaan and Sadras.
Halno says: With any luck, the hand itself can also alleviate my need to get punched in the face.
Levia crosses her arms.
Levia Blackflight says: I might have some things I can help with. I don’t know exactly what’s going on with you, but if I need to smack some sense into you, I’ll do it. And I’ll try not to have too much fun doing it.
Halno says: Nonsense, enjoy yourself. But yeah, I’m also taking measures to discover what will happen and I suppose at this point I’m making active measures to remove myself from the situation all together.
Nyxxa says: That is a good first step. Since you’re being proactive, I’m willing to help you, and I don’t think I’m alone in that.
Halno says: Hey Azgadaan, do you know anything about souls?
Azgadaan says: Plenty.
Halno says: Do you know how to bind, seal, and potentially uncurse them?
Azgadaan says: Probably.
Levia Blackflight says: I know a bit about curses… I might be able to help too. You may be an ass, but I can empathize with being stuck in the wrong body. If I can do something to make you less of a threat, you’ll have my help.
Sadras says: I’m not sure what’s going on, but if we need to smack you around, I can do that.
Lantresor smirks and nods.
Nyxxa says: I think everyone is on board for that. No offense, Halno.
Halno says: You make me feel like I did something wrong…
Levia Blackflight says: Do you want a bulleted list?
Halno says: That would be helpful.
Nyxxa says: Acceptance is the first step to self improvement, but that’s your journey.
Halno says: I thought the scepter was, but that didn’t turn out well…
Nyxxa says: Anyway, I think we’re all on the same page now.
Levia gets a thought and thinks about that thought.
Levia Blackflight says: Halno…
She raises a hand and taps it twice, and the ring he had made her appears on it.
Levia Blackflight says: These things. Besides what they normally do, whenever someone dies while wearing one, their spirit is caught in the ring, right?
Halno says: Yeah.
Levia Blackflight says: Maybe that’s something you could do? Use it as some sort of prison?
Halno taps his scepter in his lap.
Halno says: I think this is gonna take priority. After all my soul isn’t in my body, it’s in here.
Levia Blackflight says: Well, maybe what Allari was onto was a good first start. If you can separate your soul from the rest of them, it may be a good first start.
Azgadaan says: No, that is a good first step. If we could isolate him.
After they park for the night, Nyxxa pulls Sadras aside to speak in private.
Nyxxa says: You remember that thing I was talking about?
Sadras says: You, uh, might want to refresh my memory.
Nyxxa says: Things that involve helping Arthak in a way I can’t tell him directly.
Sadras says: Right. That thing I told you about.
Nyxxa says: He doesn’t know I know this, and if I tell you this, I’ll have to ask you not to tell him. I can stop right here if you aren’t comfortable with that.
Sadras offers a sad smile.
Sadras says: It’s alright.
Nyxxa says: I know about the spell on him. He doesn’t know I know, and I can’t tell you how I know, but I know that’s going to be a problem going forward.
Sadras says: I see. It will, absolutely. I’ve been worried about it myself, since he told me.
Nyxxa says: Ultimately… the friend I introduced you to. I don’t think Arthak would like it, but I think I’m going to try asking him for help. I don’t think Arthak would be okay with knowing that.
Sadras says: Maybe not, but, honestly Nyxxa, I want you to do it anyways. Arthak is... I love him, but he’s in way over his head.
Nyxxa says: I know. It’s a lot. I understand, I’ve done similar things to what he’s doing… but it’s… there’s something I want to tell someone. But, again, I don’t need to tell you this, but I want to, and again it’s going to be a secret. I can’t let him know, or any of them know.
Sadras says: I understand.
Nyxxa says: The truth about what I’ve been doing with the Illidari. Arthak is my mission. Making sure he stays alive, no matter the cost. So… even if that means going against what he wants. I need to make that happen.
Sadras looks puzzled, but relieved.
Sadras says: I don’t know why your friends would be so invested in his survival… I assume it has something to do with his father.
Nyxxa nods.
Nyxxa says: I’ve told him this much, but that bloodline has importance… ideally I would see that as untainted as possible, but his path is his own. But there’s a lot going on, and frankly, I told Go’el too, but… he told me to tell Arthak at all and I already told him more than I should. So you’re in on the secret.
Sadras says: I don’t envy the life of a spy, Nyxxa. I don’t think I could do it.
Nyxxa says: I’m not sure I can either.
Sadras says: I don’t think any of us can.
Nyxxa says: But, thank you. Hopefully… hopefully if we can get some insight, and I can keep it to a third party I can trust… the warlock has already bested me once. I can’t let that happen again. I can fail again.
Sadras says: I’m glad to hear this from you, Nyxxa. I know you and Arthak have different ways of doing things, but I’m glad I can rely on you to help me keep his ass from dying. I love him. I want to follow him. I want to protect him. But I don’t think I’ll be able to keep up with him forever, and the deeper the Legion’s claws sink into him, the more I’m afraid he’s going to lose. The more I’m afraid I won’t be able to give him, and the more I’m afraid I’m just going to have to bury him and be the only one left to remember that legacy.
Nyxxa wraps Sadras into a hug.
Nyxxa says: I don’t mean to pry, but… are you alright?
Sadras’s fingers tense on Nyxxa’s back, but she doesn’t answer, and Nyxxa holds her tighter.
Nyxxa says: It’s not my place to say anything. But… I think I might understand a little.
Sadras says: What can you do? What can you do…?
Nyxxa says: For what?
Sadras says: For everything? How do I… how do I help him without destroying myself? How could I help someone… how do you help someone who’s on fire without burning yourself alive?
Nyxxa says: I don’t… I’m not sure if what I would tell you would be of any comfort to you, Sadras.
Nyxxa tries to pull away, but Sadras does not let her pull away. Her shoulders have started to shake, and Nyxxa eases them to the ground.
Nyxxa says: I’ve had to learn the hard way that sometimes loving someone isn’t enough. You can love them with everything you have, and it only destroys them more. You can be there for someone, but it isn’t always what they need. That doesn’t mean your love is any less, or that you are any less, but it’s… the hardest thing you can realize about someone you love is that you can’t be what they need, and… I’m sorry.
Nyxxa pulls Sadras in closer and strokes her hair as she also starts to tear up. Eventually, Sadras’s grip starts to loosen, and she pulls away and pushes her forehead against Nyxxa’s. Her eyes are a bit red.
Sadras says: I… I guess I really needed that.
Nyxxa removes her blindfold and gives Sadras a sincere smile.
Nyxxa says: I know if I had been told that when I needed that, I would have been furious… I know you love him, Sadras. And you don’t have to stop loving him.
Sadras nods.
Nyxxa says: And I know he loves you too, and wouldn’t want you to beat yourself up over him.
Nyxxa wipes a tear away, and Sadras tries to smile.
Sadras says: Thank you, sister.
Nyxxa says: You are my sister. I’m here if you need me.
Sadras says: You better be.
Nyxxa says: I’m here for as long as you need me.
Sadras says: I’ll do what I can to think on this more… I’ll figure out what to do. I always do. I always have, and I will. We will.
Nyxxa puts her hands on either side of Sadras’s face.
Nyxxa says: It takes strength to confront these things. You’re stronger than I was. You’re much stronger than I was.
Sadras laughs to herself.
Sadras says: I hate crying.
Nyxxa says: It’s good to cry. You’re not weak for crying.
Sadras says: I know, but I’m supposed to be the cool, strong, carefree one, right?
Nyxxa says: So am I, but I cry all the time, right?
Sadras says: Heh. Yeah.
Nyxxa says: You have a big heart, Sadras.
Sadras says: You do too.
Sadras stands up and gives Nyxxa another hug before splashing some water on her face. Nyxxa puts her blindfold back on.
Nyxxa says: Whenever you need me, sister.
Sadras says: If you need any information to tell the wizard, let me know, okay?
Nyxxa says: Yeah. I’ll see if he’s on board.
Sadras says: The two of you seem close. If you ask it of him, I think he’ll consider it.
Nyxxa says: I hope so at least.
They head back to the group, where Azgadaan had gotten a bunch of games out for the entertainment of the group. Sadras mentions she misses Summerpaw, and Azgadaan offers to send Sadras to her dreams that night.
Sadras is enamored with the idea, and Sadras asks Azgadaan if he can send Summerpaw to her one night, and Azgadaan confirms he can.
That night Arthak sees Azuka again and she returns that night and tells Arthak what happened. She had gotten locked in a supply closet and no one would leave, but she did get to see a lot of things that seems to have shaken her a fair bit.
Outland Day 6
The warband wakes up and finishes covering the rest of the distance to the rendezvous point and then settles down to wait for Arthak.
As everyone settles down, Azgadaan takes some private time and tries to channel through Spiritsong. As he holds it in his hands, he thinks back to all the prayers he had done in the past, and starring into the crystal, he starts to have doubts. Doubts that it would respond to him. Doubts that he was worthy of holding it. The thought creeps into his mind that maybe he should have let Samaara take it in the first place.
However, as he glances out and sees sadras and Nyxxa playing with a ball, and Halno studying, and Lantresor practicing, he comes to the realization that there is a reason she allowed him to keep it. He shakes those thoughts from his mind, and he senses a flare of magic, and he watches as the crystal resonates in his hands. He feels a presence in the crystal, and he closes his eyes.
As he opens them, he can see a glow, and his shoulders also have a soft glow, like seraphim pads of light that shoot out for the briefest of moments. He feels that magic within his grasp.
All of the doubts and fears wash away, and all of a sudden, he sees a mantle of Light begin to coalesce around him. It looks like wing-like semi patterns around his shoulders, and behind him is a strange geometric pattern that almost looks like a naaru, but different. It resembles the images that appears in Remnii’s forehead when she would cast, and in front of his own forehead, a similar rune had appeared in eredun--almost magenta with a sunlit glow.
Then it’s gone, and he realizes Spiritsong is unchanged. No charges were used from it. That power was from him, somehow.
Then he hears a voice behind him.
Voice says: What’s that?
Azgadaan spins around, and he sees Veena.
Azgadaan says: This is nothing you should be worried about… how are you talking? I thought you only said names?
Veena says: I’ve been talking this whole time.
Azgadaan says:Ah. Nice to meet you Veena. Well, foret this exists.
Veena says: But why?
Azgadaan says: It’s something special to me, and no one knows I have it, so please if you would be so kind to not tell anyone and forget you saw it.
Veena looks at Azgadaan.
Veena says: Can I see it first?
Azgadaan says: See what? Nothing’s here.
Veena says: Why can’t I see it?
Azgadaan says: I will let you see it if you promise not to tell anyone. Deal?
Veena thinks for a moment brings her hands up to her chin in a very Arthak-like motion. She almost seems to hrmmm.
Then she nods.
Veena says: You have a deal.
Azgadaan says: Okay.
Azgadaan pulls out Spiritsong and holds it out to show it to her. Veen flits closer and slowly reaches out a finger, but then Azgadaan starts to pull it away.
Azgadaan says: See it. Not touch it.
Veena says: Can I touch it?
Azgadaan says: One condition. You owe me a favor.
Veena thinks for a moment but then nods again.
Veena says: Okay!
Azgadaan says: Don’t do anything other than touch it.
Veena touches the crystal, and as the finger taps the side, a soft violet glow hums from the place where she touched it. Then she places her hand on it further, and the glow persists.
Veena says: It’s… warm.
It’s not exceptionally warm to Azgadaan. Azgadaan puts his finger near the glow where her hand is, but he senses no difference in temperature. What Azgadaan knows about foci is that if it is resonating with Veena, there’s a reason for it. He doesn’t know what that reason is, but there is some sort of reason.
Veena curls her arms around the crystal, and presses the side of her cheek to it.
Veena says: Mmmm. It’s so warm.
Azgadaan says: Do you feel anything other than warm?
Veena says: Safe.
Azgadaan says: Me too.
After a moment, she untangles herself from the crystal.
Veena says: Thank you.
Azgadaan says: You’re welcome. Now I’m going to put this away and we won’t talk about it.
Veena nods.
Veena says: Can I see it again sometime?
Azgadaan says: Yes, but I need to be alone. If it’s safe, I’ll let you see it, okay?
Veena says: Thank you!
Azgadaan says: Now, lets go outside and see if I’m not crazy and you can actually talk to everyone now regularly, okay?
Veena nods along and flitters out to the rest of the group. She floats over towards the ball that Sadras and Nyxxa were kicking around. She picks it up and starts to float around with it.
Veena says: What’s this? Can I play with you?
The rest of the group just hear her making her normal whistling, but Azgadaan can understand. But slowly but surely, the words get more garbled, and he realized that whatever he had done to understand her had worn off. Azgadaan casts the spell again, and then he could once more understand her.
Azgadaan says: Well. I can understand our friend here now.
Nyxxa says: That’s great news!
Sadras says: What’s she saying?
Azgadaan says: She wants to know how to play.
At that moment, Veena drops the ball on Sadras’s head.
Nyxxa says: Well, we should show her again.
They start to show Veena how to play with the ball, and Nyxxa asks Azgadaan if she can understand what the group is saying. Azgadaan suggests that she try.
Nyxxa says: Veena, I have something to show you!
Veena says [plantspeech]: What is it?
From similar interactions, it seems that Veena can sort of understand things. She has the comprehension of a child. She seems to be learning.
Nyxxa shows Veena the carving that she had made of her.
Veena says [plantspeech]: Is that me?
Azgadaan says: Yup, it’s a carved rendition of wood.
Veena immediately dives down and snags the figure from Nyxxa and flits through the air, hugging it.
Veena says [plantspeech]: It’s me! It’s me!
It seems the little wooden carving begins to grow, and little blooms and blossoms start to appear on the wings. Some of the wood starts to look more wild, and then she looks at it--startled--and she drops it.
Azgadaan says: Seems you missed a few spots there.
Nyxxa catches it, and it looks like parts of the figure had been regrown. Veena goes over to apologize to Nyxxa.
Nyxxa says: No. This is remarkable that she can do this.
Nyxxa examines the figure more closely, and she gets the sense that there is something familiar about the phenomena. It is reminiscent of Veena, but also of something else. Something she can’t quite put her finger on.
Veena says [plantspeech]: Do you really think that’s cool? I can do that with other things too!
She starts to fly around and she goes to Nyxxa’s collection of things, and then she freezes upon seeing Nyxxa’s bow--which was what the phenomena reminded her of. The tree.
Nyxxa says: Azgadaan… can you ask her if she recognizes these branches?
Veena flies down and picks up the bow.
Veena says [plantspeech]: I’ve seen this before. In a dream. That’s where I first saw you!
She looks back to Nyxxa.
Azgadaan says: Well, she saw you in a dream it seems. And the branches.
Nyxxa says: I see. So, I made this. Do you know of the tree on Azeroth?
Veena shakes her head.
Nyxxa says: Hm.
Veena says [plantspeech]: I don’t know an Azeroth. All I know is that I have dreams where I am as big as the sun.
Azgadaan continues to translate.
Veena says [plantspeech]: You’re from those dreams!
Nyxxa is standing in awe for a moment.
Veena says [plantspeech]: Is Azeroth the world of the dreams?
Nyxxa says: I don’t know. Do you see it when you sleep?
Veena nods.
Nyxxa says: Well, if you could tell Azgadaan what you see in your dreams?
Azgadaan says: I can target her with a dream spell and send her to my dreams and see what happens.
Nyxxa says: Well, if she saw us on the other side… that’s what it seems to imply, at least. This is all beyond me.
Veena says [plantspeech]: Lets keep playing!
Nyxxa says: I guess if what you say, Azgadaan. She’s a child. Best not do a bunch of this heavy stuff. Lets play then. I can show you the other animals I carved.
And Veena immediately zooms back to see the other carvings.
Outland Day 7
Arthak and Azuka head to reconvene with the rest of the warband. During the ride, Arthak picks Azuka’s brain for any of the intel that she got. Kaylaan did not come up at all, but all the other names came up in some capacity.
In regards to what she heard about Rakeesh, he had visited once previously, and he had not spoken to Mannoroth. Most people don’t know what he’s doing here, thus his presence is rather unknown. The best thing she could tell is that he seems to be seeking information about an organization called the Ashtongue. He is likely trying to hunt them down. It’s likely that Kil’jaeden wants it handled given they’ve evaded capture for so long under Mannoroth.
Meanwhile, Culuthas seems to have gone rogue. He has claimed all of Socrethar’s old holdings and seems to be seeking something. So whatever Socrethar had remaining in the Shadowmoon Valley and the Nether Storm had been claimed by the dreadlord. However, the details were pretty narrow. Something happened to him on the other side of the politics, and it seems he is on the run from everyone. Rakeesh also was asking after Culuthas.
Jaraxxus, it would seem, is funding a lot of technological progress. He has visited Hellfire Citadel in the past and has been working closely with Mannoroth, especially in regards to the logistics off-world. His people are also around.
They arrive early in the morning, seeing the familiar silhouette of the ship. It’s a race if Veena will tackle Azuka off Summerpaw, or if Sadras will tackle Summerpaw out from beneath the two other orcs. Sadras almost immediately gets Summerpaw on her side and is rubbing her tummy, and shortly after, she greets Arthak.
Sadras says: I’m glad you’re safe.
Arthak Saurfang says: It’s good to see you.
Sadras says: Good to see you too, kid.
She musses Azuka’s hair.
Azuka Stormbreaker says: I’m… glad to be here too…
Lantresor bows to Arthak in greeting.
Lantresor says: We are glad to have you back, Arthak. How did everything go?
Arthak grunts.
Arthak Saurfang says: Important things. Blackhand tried to kill me. That’s dealt with. Working on recruiting the assassin.
Lantresor laughs, and Sadras looks at Nyxxa.
Arthak Saurfang says: Oronok Torn-heart. Does the name mean anything to you?
Halno recognizes the name. He was a shaman born to the Shadowmoon Clan. He was similar in age to Halno and had a similar background, except he was a shaman who eventually turned away from the elements to become a warlock. He ended up becoming a warlock and eventually joined the Shadow Council as well as turning to the Ironmarch. Halno never knew him that close, but he got his name from performing divination rituals by tearing out the hearts from willing hosts so they could perform some sort of service for their ancestors. However, the donors were always willing.
The changes to the Horde changed him a lot as well.
Halno says: Oh, I’m surprised that fossil is still alive.
Arthak Saurfang says: And is on the warchief’s payroll. Or was. I’m handling it. Hellfire is… interesting. The Lord of the Pits, their master, rules it now, and he is mass producing fel orcs with his blood.
Sadras covers her mouth.
Arthak Saurfang says: I bought Varokmar protection. The village should be left alone, at least by Hellfire, so long as I help its master deal with Sinestra.
Halno says: Oh, well that was on the list.
Arthak Saurfang says: It is, though… if it doesn’t work out… he has leverage now. So, there’s that. Azgadaan, your father is paying for most of the operations going on in Hellfire. He’s visited recently. And… final pertinent pieces of information. A certain eredar general is also in Outland. We’ve been invited to have a meeting with him. It’s about Kaylaan, apparently.
All the orcs get a serious look on their face.
Azgadaan says: A meeting with Kaylaan. Hurray.
Arthak Saurfang says: Maybe. We don’t know what the general wants.
Halno says: Ah! Fun meeting. By the way, I’m going insane.
Levia Blackflight says: As you can see, the trip was somewhat uneventful.
Arthak Saurfang says: About what I expected.
Nyxxa says: We’ll handle it.
Arthak Saurfang says: Yes. Anything else I should know? About events.
Nyxxa says: Nothing you should worry yourself with, Arthak.
Arthak Saurfang says: Noted.
Nyxxa says: If something comes up, there will be a time and place for it.
Arthak Saurfang says: Very well.
Nyxxa says: Oh! But!
Nyxxa pulls out an Azuka carving.
Nyxxa says: I added another one to the collection!
Azuka Stormbreaker says: Is that… is that supposed to be me?
Nyxxa says: Yes, it’s supposed to be. I’m not the best at this, but…
Azuka Stormbreaker says: Uh… no, that’s… thanks.
Nyxxa says: It’s fine, I can take criticism!
Azuka Stormbreaker says: I… it’s nice. Thank you.
Nyxxa says: Oh, yeah, and there’s your news too, Azzy!
Azgadaan says: Oh, yes, I can talk to Veena.
Azuka Stormbreaker says: How?
Azgadaan says: Like so.
Azgadaan casts the speak with plants spell.
Azgadaan says: Veena, is there anything you want to say to Azuka?
Veena says [plantspeech]: I love her!
Azgadaan says: In the words of Veena, ‘I love her!’
Azuka blushes.
Azuka Stormbreaker says: That’s… embarrassing. But thanks.
Veena sits on her shoulder.
Azgadaan translates back to Veena and then adds…
Azgadaan says: I think she would really like a hug right now.
Veena says [plantspeech]: Okay!
She immediately gives Azuka a hug, and Azuka glares daggers at Azgadaan, but accepts the hug.
Nyxxa says: The other news concerning Veena. Her dreams.
Azgadaan says: Ah, yeah. You may be more apt at telling this.
Nyxxa says: She saw my bow in her dreams, and she dreams of being a giant. That’s where she saw us first. You understand the implications, Arthak.
Arthak Saurfang says: I… had some thoughts along those lines. She… hrmph… some familiar things. Also… we’re safe, yes?
Nyxxa quickly scans with see invisibility.
Nyxxa says: We’re safe.
Arthak Saurfang says: So. She demonstrated, while we were traveling… she was able to heal the corruption in the earth.
Nyxxa says: Really?
Arthak Saurfang says: It seemed as such.
Halno’s head whips around so fast it sounds like something cracked. Nyxxa jumps.
Nyxxa says: That’s… interesting.
Azgadaan says: So. What does he mean you were able to do something about the corruption in the soil?
Veena shakes her head.
Veena says [plantspeech]: I was just dreaming!
Azgadaan says: She said she was just dreaming.
They see the area where she had rested the night prior, and they see that the area also seemed to be purified. Nyxxa offers to check something, and she examines the area with her spectral sight. She sees no consecration or desecration. Not truly. However, as she looks at Veena, she detects a strange anomaly. She’s registering as both a fey and a celestial.
Nyxxa makes an audible noise of curiosity, and her jaw goes slack.
She remembers a bare minimum of fey, specifically that they are creatures of the Emerald Dream. However, it’s unclear if Veena may share that same connection.
Nyxxa says: She’s both celestial and fey.
Azgadaan says: Huh.
Nyxxa says: I don’t remember much about the fey… and I know nothing about celestials.
Azgadaan knows celestials are otherworldly creatures that are associated with planes opposed to the Twisting Nether. One of the most obvious ones are the naaru, and certain creatures blessed by them could be considered such. He is not an expert, but there are also celestial creatures in the Shadowlands.
Nyxxa says: The fey are baseline revered by the kaldorei people as spirits of nature, but that’s unsurprising given what we’ve seen of her. The celestial though… So… can you ask how old she is?
Azgadaan does.
Veena says [plantspeech]: I don’t know.
Arthak Saurfang says: I can hazard a guess.
Azgadaan says: You met her how long ago, Azuka?
Azuka Stormbreaker says: About six months probably.
Azgadaan says: Hm. So you’re at least six months old. How long was it before you met Azuka?
Veena shrugs, uncertain.
Lantresor says: Ask her if she remembers this place before it became Outland.
Azgadaan says: Do you remember if this place looked different?
Veena says [plantspeech]: It did once, right?
Azgadaan says: Yes, but do you remember personally?
Veena looks like she’s thinking.
Veena says [plantspeech]: No.
Nyxxa says: Well that answers that.
Arthak Saurfang says: Interesting.
Levia Blackflight says: Another mystery. Guess we’ll have to add you to the list, little one.
Veena says [plantspeech]: What’s a list?
Azgadaan says: We could try to fly back to the roots at the Portal and see if they’re alive. We might be able to talk to that big tree.
Arthak Saurfang says: Perhaps. But we’ll end up there eventually anyway. While this is interesting, I’d rather not get too distracted.
Sadras says: So what’s our next destination. I would like to head to Garadar, but if we want to speak with this demon…
Nyxxa says: There was something! I have a coworker to meet.
Arthak Saurfang says: Is it on the way?
Nyxxa says: Nagrand.
Arthak Saurfang says: If it’s close enough we can make that work.
Nyxxa says: No worries if I don’t run into him. I’d like to let him know I'm not a traitor.
Arthak Saurfang says: Well, time is broken here, so we have ample amounts of it.
Nyxxa says: We can go through as quickly as we can and it still may not help us getting back, but… yeah.
Levia sighs.
Levia Blackflight says: Birthdays must be a pain in the ass in the Twisting Nether.
Azgadaan says: Depends.
They decide to see if they could meet Rakeesh on the way to Nagrand.
