Conjure Woodland Beings

5th-Level Conjuration
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Varies, Self (10-foot radius) (combat) or 60 feet (non-combat)
Components: VSM (one holly berry per creature summoned)
Duration: (C) Varies, 10 minutes (combat) or 1 hour (non-combat)

You summon nature spirits to aid you in different ways, depending on the circumstances of the casting:
Combat. You summon nature spirits that flit about you for the duration. Until the spell ends, each creature you choose that enters a space within 10 feet of you for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there must make a Wisdom saving throw, taking 5d8 radiant damage on a failed save or half as much damage on a successful one. In addition, you can take the Disengage action as a Bonus Action for the spell's duration.
Non-Combat. You summon fey creatures that appear in unoccupied spaces that you can see within range. These fey creatures can serve one of the listed purposes below, or other purposes depending on creative freedom. The GM is the final arbiter of whether a function is within the confines of the spell:
  • Cause small natural or harmless phenomenon, such as growing small areas of plant-life, temporarily changing the colors of small objects, or similar feats similar in scope to the druidcraft or prestidigitation spells.
  • Serve as a distraction.
  • Aid in performances and other forms of entertainment.
  • Scout an area and report back to you.
Each fey creature disappears when it takes damage or when the spell ends. The summoned creatures are friendly to you and your companions. They obey any verbal commands that you issue to them. If initiative is rolled when these fey are active, choose one of the following options:
  • The fey attempt to polymorph one creature into a beast of your choice, as per the spell. If successful, you must maintain concentration on the spell.
  • The fey add a +4 bonus to the Tides of Battle if the mechanic is active in the resulting encounter.
  • The fey immediately dart in to protect you and follow the rules of the combat version of the spell.
Regardless of the chosen option, the spell ends at the end of the encounter.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of level 6 or higher, the damage increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 5th. If cast in a non-combat situation, the number of fey you can summon increases by 2 for each slot level above 5th. As a result, you may attempt to polymorph one additional creature (using the same concentration), increase the Tides of Battle bonus by an additional +1, or other similar benefits. If the non-combat form transitions into the combat form, it deals damage according to the level the spell was cast.
