November 10th

The group headed over to where the night elves were camped. Most of them were packing things up, and it seemed that the entirety of the non-Illidari night elves were preparing to leave. Tyrande turned to approached them.

Tyrande Whisperwind says: You’ve returned. I trust your business with the blue dragons was fruitful then?
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Miscommunications have been cleared. Unfortunately this may be the second time we deliver news of… something thought to be destroyed.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: What is it now?
Zar'Kaa says: Suramar. Suramar City.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: You said you were from there?
Tyrande Whisperwind says: I was. I grew up there before the Sundering. The city still stands?
Zar'Kaa says: Yeah. We brought back one of its former denizens. They still have an entire society.
Sol'chi says: It’s covered by an illusion.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: An illusion? Was our new guest able to say anything to its nature?
Sol'chi says: He said that the illusion was powered by several magical devices and covered the entire city in eternal night. They also have a nightwell… and their leader is named Elisande.

Sol explained the rest of the gist.

Tyrande Whisperwind says: So she still lives after all these years?
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: It seems our people are durable.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: Yes, but without the blessing of Nordrassil she must have had some way of preserving her people.
Zar'Kaa says: Apparently by casting them out.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: Assuming that’s what this nightwell is… it might be to ensure they had a surplus of this arcwine. I’m curious how she made it.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: What do you remember of her?
Tyrande Whisperwind says: She was a highborne and owed her loyalty toward queen Azshara, but she and her ilk were unaware of Azshara’s betrayal. But they also did not join the highborne rebels led by Dath’remar, the ancestor that would later form the high elves before they became the sin’dorei. They were concerned with their own protection. At least hte ones in the city. Most of us assumed the city sank when the Sundering occurred, but if the shield protected them… perhaps this illusory barrier is a predecessor of the Gate of Elune.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: What’s that?
Tyrande Whisperwind says: It was a mistake. It was a powerful enchantment that the highborne sought to weave over all of Ashenvale after the War of the Satyr. It was supposed to cloak all of our forests in Elune’s embrace, a mythal of eternal night, but in their haste to complete it… the spellwork went arry and conjured a storm that nearly leveled a portion of the forest. After the upheaval our people had undergone, the fate of the highborne had already been called into question. The Gate of Elune was their hope to buy themselves a place in our society. Instead it spelled their doom and exile. Since then, arcane magic became forbidden among the kaldorei. But it seems knowledge of this Gate of Elune fell into the hands of Suramar, perhaps an early iteration. I heard the sin’dorei conjured a similar barrier over their homeland on the eastern continent. I’d be curious to take a closer look. It’s not my expertise, but I’ve been exposed to it. If I cannot tell, perhaps Illidan could.
Zar'Kaa says: If it’s on your way.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: My most foremost objective is to find Malfurion. But this business in Suramar is something I would be remiss to miss. Elisande is an imperious and stern woman, but she’s also wise. She may prove to be a valuable ally. While I’m not friend of her’s, and I wager she will not welcome my arrival, but if I can try to reach out a hand, I’d be foolish not to. I will make my way that way when I am able to. But if there’s anything else I can do…
Zar'Kaa says: Well. There is one thing.

He looked at Nyxxa.

Nyxxa Murkthorn says: We were wondering if it was wise to alert the Wardens here of what is going on. I don’t think it wise to inform them of our presence, but there is the question of whether or not they can bne coordinated. I know they don’t have the best relationship with the Illidari.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: The Wardens are a blindspot for me. They are part of the sentinels, but they are under the command of the chief warden. Even so, I will send Dorithur with a message. I’m sure they’re aware of some, but knowing a full scope would be beneficial.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: In this case, I think it may be wiser for you to initiate than us.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: I can certainly see why that would be the case. The isle of the watchers does contain an underground facility that is still a part of the Warden’s prison network, but I am unsure what’s imprisoned there. Ensuring that region is secure would be beneficial. The last thing we would want is for the Legion to seek allies within the complex. I believe our people have had enough prison breaks this century.
Zar'Kaa says: Oh?
Tyrande Whisperwind says: Until recently, Illidan was also held within the Barrow Deeps, the prison complex beneath my own homeland. That is until a group of young heroes decided to liberate him, themselves, and a number of other important people.

She looked over at Nyxxa with a knowing glance.

Tyrande Whisperwind says: Nonetheless, if I have the opportunity, I’ll ensure contact is made. Perhaps I can send priestess Nightwalker in my stead. But that is a sound suggestion. On our journey, if we pass any outposts, I’ll try to alleviate any aggression with your people. I don’t believe any of them would be foolish enough to strike at any of you, but allies are better than nothing.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: I’m more concerned with the aftermath.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: Yes. I’m in no place to do such, but it’s obvious the Illidari have been indispensable allies. I hope the leader of the kaldorei can be convinced to see the same. Even non-aggression would be better than open hostility.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: That is probably more business for the Slayer than myself.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: Perhaps not anymore.

Tyrande smiled.

Tyrande Whisperwind says: In the meanwhile, perhaps I can speak to this Runas you mentioned. Maybe I’ll recognize some of the names.
Zar'Kaa says: He’ll probably be grateful for you rescuing him from Shinfel.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: I’m sure. Though, on that note…

Tyrande whistled, and a beautiful owl swooped down and landed on her arm.

Tyrande Whisperwind says: This is Dorithur. He’s swift of wing and keen of eye. I’ll be sending him periodically across the isles to keep my own group apprised, and to keep us connected. I will try to ensure he can find you periodically, and if you have any updates for me, you can rely on him.

Dorithur looked over the group, and his eyes settled on Nyxxa.

Dori'thur: I’ve been told that you can understand my words.

Nyxxa confirmed.

Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Nice to meet you.
Dori'thur: Very well.

Nyxxa bowed, and the owl bowed back.

Arthak Saurfang says: I’m glad you have means of communication so we can both stay abreast. That being said, lady Tyrande, if you’re inclined, I’d like to maintain a correspondence between yourself and I.

Tyrande smiled gently.

Tyrande Whisperwind says: I would quite like that, Arthak. I’ll send missives along with Dorithur regardless of business.
Sol'chi says: Arthak, I can always send my owl as well if Dori'thur isn’t around.

Sol summoned Hooty, and Dori'thur just stared at the other owl.

Dori'thur says: What is this… malformed creature?
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: I believe Hooty is an owl.
Dori'thur says: That is an abomination.
Hooty says: You’re right! And yet I persist!

Dori'thur extended his wings.

Dori'thur says: I should cleanse you and end your suffering, creature!

Tyrande tried to calm Dorithur.

Hooty says: You cannot cleanse me in a way that matters, oh great one! But you are welcome to try!
Sol'chi says: What’s going on?
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: They’re having a… Dori'thur mentioned Hooty shouldn’t exist and Hooty agreed.
Hooty says: I have no desire to end his life, for all life will end on its own!

Nyxxa used [Minor Illusion]] to repeat what was being said, and Tyrande blinked. Dori'thur hooted indignantly.

Dori'thur says: I am taking this beast from my sight! I shall find you when you are ready to depart!

The spirit beast took to the sky.

Tyrande Whisperwind says: I don’t believe he’s fond of your creature… but I will ensure he doesn’t not cause problems.
Zar'Kaa says: You sure know how to pick them.

Zar’Kaa slapped Sol on the back.

Sol'chi says: Well. Thank you Tyrande… um… maybe I should unsummon him eventually.

Hooty turned his head fully back to Sol and stared into his soul.

Arthak Saurfang says: Your offer is appreciated, Sol. I may take you up on that.
Hooty says: I can show you the true meaning of haste. Hoo!

He then looked at Nyxxa.

Hooty says: His first misconception is that he summoned me.

Hooty then disappeared, and Nyxxa held up a finger.

Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Sol… do you want to know the things Hooty says? Do you wish to be burdened with that knowledge?
Sol'chi says: I’ll leave it to your discretion, Nyxxa. If you think it’s notable, then please.
Zar'Kaa says: At some point Miss Tyrande, I’d like to learn about your people on Kalimdor. Your people and mine share a continent, so it would be nice to hear about our northern neighbors.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: Of course. We have been an insular people, though I believe that is coming to an end. We have many years of history.
Zar'Kaa says: We can always start with the most recent.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: Of course. When we have time, I can share my experiences.
Zar'Kaa says: I’d like that.

They bid their farewells, and Tyrande offered Nyxxa a hug, which was accepted. Arthak then approached Broll Bearmantle, who Sol commented looks like he might have a bit of orc blood in him.

Arthak Saurfang says: Broll Bearmantle, yes?
Broll Bearmantle says: Yes... You are the leader of the orcs here. The one known as Arthak? It’s a pleasure to meet you.
Arthak Saurfang says: Likewise.

Broll greeted Nyxxa as well, who waved. He seemed to be slightly trepidatious about the demons, but he was not unfriendly.

Broll Bearmantle says: Is there something I can help you with?
Arthak Saurfang says: Yes. A few questions.

Arthak pulled out a notebook and flipped it open.

Broll Bearmantle says: Oh. My knowledge is far from complete. You’d be able to get more information from Lady Tyrande or other druids… but I can share what wisdom I have.
Arthak Saurfang says: No one’s knowledge is complete, but everyone carries pieces. When we were at the Repose, I was given a brief overview of how the dragonflights work. Specifically, their different purviews. Regarding that, the green dragonflight has a dominion over nature and the Emerald Dream. I’ve heard references to this before, but I’ve been led to believe your arts are tied to this forces as a druid. If you could tell me of this Dream and how your order and the green dragons work into all this.

Broll smiled.

Broll Bearmantle says: Seems you are in luck. I know little of the other dragons. It was only recently I met a dragon, let alone one beyond the green flight. The green dragonflight are beings of nature and dream. They like us are connected to the Emerald Dream. What you heard of our magic is true. The magic we channel is drawn from that realm. It is a place of beauty, mystery, and wild abundance, a realm of dreams and fantasies, but also danger. To describe it accurately would be difficult. Some have referred to it as… a reflection of our world. Azeroth in eternal perfection. Indeed, the Sundering that shattered this world did not affect the Emerald Dream. Much of the great ocean that we crossed to reach here is endless forest, mountains, prairies, lakes, rivers. It is as it was long ago. It is also where all living things go when they go to rest. When one dreams, a portion of their consciousness travels to the realm of the Dream itself. They may not realize it, but they shape the Dream in impermanent ways.
Sol'chi says: Even creatures that weren’t born here? Like the orcs.
Broll Bearmantle says: I do not know. That is a valuable question. I had spoken with some of the other druids, and they said the draenei had started to appear. I cannot say if the same can be said of the orcs, but perhaps you too would be brought in. Only those with natural or trained ways in druidism can traverse willingly and exert actual influence.
Arthak Saurfang says: So this Dream is a remembrance of Azeroth as it was first formed, but it is also malleable. So there’s a direct connection between all things of nature and this realm?
Broll Bearmantle says: Correct. If I would step into the dream here, there would be no manmade structures. Instead the great mountain it is built upon would stand beneath the emerald sky.
Arthak Saurfang says: Is there a reason for it to be… forever that original mold?
Broll Bearmantle says: I do not know, I’m sorry. I’ve only been a druid for a fraction of time as the archdruids. Perhaps they or one of the guardians of the dream could answer your question.
Arthak Saurfang says: So the communion with the Dream allows you to manipulate the natural world? The green dragons have a similar power?
Broll Bearmantle says: In a way, yes. We druids are sworn to protect nature. The first of our kind, Malfurion Stormrage, was taught the arts by a great spirit of the forest. A denizen of the Emerald Dream. The father of the children of the forest. Cenarius. He was Malfurion’s shan’do, and he taught him of the Dream, and the ways its powers could be used.
Arthak Saurfang says: There are beings native to the Dream?
Broll Bearmantle says: Oh yes. Many.
Arthak Saurfang says: Are they guardians, or do they fulfill some other purpose?
Broll Bearmantle says: Some are guardians, others simply live.
Sol'chi says: Do you know what these creatures look like?

Broll nodded, and Sol conjured an image of Veena.

Broll Bearmantle says: I’ve never seen a creature like this. They aren’t dissimilar to some of the fey spirits, but it is different in many ways.
Sol'chi says: The only reason I ask is because she merged with a big tree when we came back. I was wondering if she may have been part of that.
Broll Bearmantle says: I’ve never seen a creature like this. What kind she is, is not one I’ve known about. But my knowledge is incomplete. There are many corners of the dream I have not explored. One could wander it for thousands of lifetimes and not see anything.
Arthak Saurfang says: She could have been part of Draenor’s dream, if it had one.
Broll Bearmantle says: I cannot say. There must be something… but I believe I am getting ahead of something. You asked about the guardians of the dream.
Arthak Saurfang says: Yes, there are Keepers and Watchers that are separate. There are dragons. There are also spirits of the Dream?
Broll Bearmantle says: Correct. The fey creatures, as they are called, come in many shapes and forms, but many appear as beasts. Some creatures also find gaps between the Emerald Dream and the waking world and can flit between them. You will find great bears, stags, eagles, and the like flying the skies, but they may prove different. A stag there may have antlers covered in moss and leaves, while a typical creature would not. The stronger of such creatures are called spirit beasts in the common tongue. Dori'thur, the owl companion of Tyrande, as well as Ash'alah, would be classified as spirit beasts. Powerful creatures whose existence is influenced by the dream. The strongest of them are referred to as wild gods or ancients.
Arthak Saurfang says: These ancients are the most… okay.
Broll Bearmantle says: They are beings of unfathomable powerful. Cenarius would be considered a wild god, even if he is different from many. Many of these wild gods take the form of great beasts. Ursoc and Ursol, the twin bears. Goldrinn the great wolf. Ashamane, the saber, or Malorne, the great stag. When Azeroth’s need is greatest, they emerge to fight on behalf of Azeroth, and some are more involved in the lives of mortals, while others are not. What we call wild gods other cultures may call otherwise. For example, many… loa would be classified as wild gods to us, but their existence is similar.
Zar'Kaa says: Yeah. Based on what I know about loa, they have other names as well. We have druids from our tribe as well, some you may have met. In any case, each culture has their own way of describing these manifestations.
Broll Bearmantle says: It is the only way we can understand them. The names we give the wild gods are names that resonate with them. I’m sure there is a wild god amongst the night elves that may have different names across many cultures. Like a title. While many have features of them, their intelligence is far beyond a typical beast. They represent what it is to be the truest example of their kind. Ursoc and Ursol, the great bears, the patrons of the druids of the claw, they represent protection, family, brotherhood, vigilance, rest, and other things that would be attributed to a bear.
Zar'Kaa says: Would this include the tauren? Either here on the isles, or back on Kalimdor?
Broll Bearmantle says: I do not know much of the tauren here. However, several of the tauren on Kalimdor are members of the Cenarion Circle. They too have their own names for many of the wild gods. Goldrinn, for example, though he fell during the War of the Ancients, he was called Lo’gosh by the tauren. If your home had similar creatures, it is possible there was a dream or some version on your world as well, I cannot say.
Arthak Saurfang says: Though my question continues to be why…

Sol had never heard of anything like a Dream on any of the other worlds that the Legion had conquered. Arthak, in regards to Draenor, knew tales of great beasts. There were the great wolf spirits of the Frost Wolves or the bird gods of the arakkoa. However, it seemed they had a similar idea to the wild gods of Azeroth.

Arthak Saurfang says: So it’s quite possible Draenor had this, which means there’s a pattern between worlds. But why have that original template? Perhaps you need a copy of the original so that nature remembers what it’s supposed to be. You need the original bear so all bears can hearken back. It’s like having the design for a machine or tool. A bear shall always be a bear, a wolf shall always be a wolf.

Broll blinks.

Broll Bearmantle says: I… hope my information helped you. It seems it may have.
Zar'Kaa says: Have been sitting on this for a while, have you?
Arthak Saurfang says: Not really. It came up with the blue dragons… but now I have more to work with. Perhaps the same beings, that shared a language, made both worlds.
Broll Bearmantle says: I can’t say. If you need more knowledge, it would be wise of you to speak with someone with more extensive knowledge–
Zar'Kaa says: One more question. We are heading to Highmountain. It may be good to know the religious lingo of the tauren, so we can follow along with some of the dialect. Do you know of the tauren’s views?
Broll Bearmantle says: The practices of the tauren here may differ further from the ones I know. But if they are similar, show dignity, respect, wisdom, and generosity. They are direct descendants of Huln Highmountain, however. Their vigilance against the Legion may be more direct than most. It may be wise if those that… well. That you conceal yourselves in some fashion.
Arthak Saurfang says: Thank you, Master Bearmantle.
Broll Bearmantle says: Of course. If you seek more… Shan’do Stormrage has been missing for some time. We hope to find him, but in the meantime there are others I can direct you towards. There was someone that came with us on the vessel, but she left. She was a green dragon. Her name is Ariesera. She is the granddaughter of the aspect of the green dragonflight. She has been around for many years, and may be able to fill in many blanks that others cannot. Failing that, if you can speak with one of the archdruids, they may be able to share information. Lea Stonepaw is the archdruid here of the druids of the claw. I will present myself to her in the future. But she is… gruff you may say. But she is powerful, and not afraid to buck traditions. Failing that, if nature guides you to cross paths with one of the wild gods or the children of Cenarius, perhaps they can guide you in other ways.
Arthak Saurfang says: That would be quite useful. This provides me with resources I can look into.
Sol'chi says: And hopefully they won’t kill us immediately!
Broll Bearmantle says: May nature guide you, and best of luck in Highmountain. Pack warm. I hear the region can become terribly cold, even during the warmest months.
Zar'Kaa says: My favorite.

Throughout the conversation, Nyxxa had spied a few members of Tyrande’s entourage watching Nyxxa a lot.

As the group prepared to ready themselves to leave, Levia approached Arthak and asked to talk.

Arthak Saurfang says: By all means.
Levia Blackflight says: Um… so. I’ve been thinking. A little bit. About the Horde and what your plans are and all that. And I have an idea. I don’t think you’re going to like it, but I want you to think about it.
Arthak Saurfang says: of course. I’m interested to hear it. Please. Tell.
Levia Blackflight says: I think you should tell Magistrix Goldensword and the others the Horde is planning on leaving.
Arthak Saurfang says: Why?
Levia Blackflight says: I know you’re concerned they’re going to attack you. And that’s obviously valid. But given the circumstances, I think… sorry, this is hard. What are you hoping to accomplish with them?
Arthak Saurfang says: With the Reliquary?
Levia Blackflight says: Yeah.
Arthak Saurfang says: Very little. My hope is to stay out of their way best I can. Space is my intention.
Levia Blackflight says: Gotcha. Um. My general idea is just… right now, obviously, they aren’t very happy with you. They don’t have many reasons to be. But this is maybe your only opportunity to actually do something about it. You don’t want to be warring with them anymore, right? I’m sure there’s plenty of people in the Sin’dorei who would love to tear out your throat, literally or otherwise. But right now they can’t. Now, if you just try to stay out of their way, that’s not changing anything. But if you told them what your plans were, you could approach it like… I don’t know. Not like an olive branch, but maybe forgiveness of some kind. This is what we’re doing, and if the disturbance goes down, she can message her people, but giving that to them in good faith and then maybe kicking demon ass this whole time while not causing problems will give her pause. It would give them power in the situation, and it gives you the chance to show the type of person you are. That you aren’t just a conqueror. That you’re trying to leave. That you want to give them their land back. And if you approach it like you want to leave and they are in the right to be angry, then maybe no one has to die on either side. I know it’s a bit of a wild card, and it might not work, but… I just… I thought it was worth bringing up.
Arthak Saurfang says: I’m glad you did. I have been meaning to check in.
Levia Blackflight says: Yeah. Um. It’s really strange seeing other elves again… I mean, I know we saw some in Silvermoon.
Arthak Saurfang says: It’s different.
Levia Blackflight says: Yeah. It’s weird, because I feel less… it makes me feel a lot further from home. But I’m doing alright, I think. And it’s good to see my friend again.
Arthak Saurfang says: I imagine it is.
Levia Blackflight says: And before you say it, that’s not why I’m saying this.
Arthak Saurfang says: I didn’t think it would be.
Levia Blackflight says: But it’s just something to think about.
Arthak Saurfang says: It is. I will think on it. I still… I would like to do that. That is what I would like to do. I have thought of that. And frankly, I’m not so much concerned about the sin’dorei attacking, as simply a sending goes to their leadership, who then sends the otherside of the trenchline. What gives me pause is how easily the sin’dorei could burn this for us, and I have been told by Nyxxa and others that… if there is something they hold to, it’s a grudge. So I have concerns, but I am not always right. What I like and what’s best for my people are often different things. But I promise I will think on it.
Levia Blackflight says: Okay. That’s all I can ask.
Arthak Saurfang says: But also. I hope this does not come across poorly. It is not meant in that way. You don’t have to stay with us. If there’s anything you believe you owe, you never did. And even if there was, it has been repaid. And you have at least one friend. As complicated as that would still be, there are complications that are easier to bear than others.
Levia Blackflight says: I… I thought about that too. But I… I never had any love for my home. It caused me pain that I accidentally helped burn it, but maybe it wasn’t as much of an accident as I believed. I don’t know how welcome I’d be there anymore. But I hear ya.
Arthak Saurfang says: As you said. Something to think on. And however you choose, and whether you change your mind at any point, I would like you to know this. You are a dear friend, Levia. Nothing you do or say, or however your allegiances lie in the end, or at any point. None of that would be a betrayal.
Levia Blackflight says: Well shit. Thanks Arthak. I really appreciate it.
Arthak Saurfang says: I trust your judgment, and that you know the path you should walk.
Levia Blackflight says: And I trust you, and your excellent taste in a cigar more than anything.
Arthak Saurfang says: Indeed. I’ve had a large sample size to work off of.
Levia Blackflight says: Maybe the tauren will have something!
Arthak Saurfang says: Perhaps. That would be interesting. The benefits of diplomatic work.

Levia smiled and put a hand on Arthak’s shoulder.

Zar’Kaa decided to try and fight the Illidari instructors again, but they had seen Zar’Kaa’s fighting techniques now. He was once again bested entirely.

Kilnar and some of the Reliquary forces were also leaving to go on their own business, but Velameestra was left behind to serve as a contact at Black Rook Hold. Nyxxa also gave Khadgar a goodbye and promised he’d hopefully be back with friends.

November 11th

The next day, the group set off for Highmountain, and they opted to travel for a few days so that Sol could get a good vantage point to teleport them beyond most of the night elf territories. At the end of the first day, they were able to cross the river that led into the Emerald Bay. In the distance, they could see a great weeping willow tree that emerged from some of the mountains. They were able to find a sheltered place to stay for the night.

Nyxxa noticed a scrying censor following Zar’Kaa, but it disappeared as soon as she noticed.

Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Zar’Kaa. It looks like someone was watching you.
Zar'Kaa says: What?
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: You were followed by a scrying sensor.
Zar'Kaa says: Fuck.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Who do you think that it could be?
Zar'Kaa says: Could be some of the kaldorei. Could be demons… I can only speculate. I didn’t even know I was being followed. So can’t trace the source of the scrying. You think it’s something we need to look into?
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Well. We can’t do anything about it unless we know who cast it.
Zar'Kaa says: Sorry, I should have been more diligent.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: There’s no way for you to have known. I think each of us have been used for that purpose at least once. But at least we know. If it disappeared once I saw it… hm. It may be possible that they know I would be able to tell, given it disappeared immediately. We’ll have to see to find out.
Zar'Kaa says: Yeah. We can set up a protocol. If you and I sweep, we meet up before returning to the others, so that you can see it before we bring it to the others.

They returned to the others and reported what happened. Sol asked if Zar’Kaa knew many spellcasters, and Zekhan mused only himself and Zirazi could cast such spells out of the Darkspear present. Zar’Kaa demanded why Bru’kan didn’t see the scrying sensor, and he said he couldn’t see invisible things.

Sol created a [Magnificent Mansion], but Rexxar said that he wasn’t going to go inside the conjuration. He was tempted in with the promise of some food, but he said he’d only be inside to eat and then he’d be staying outside. Sol explained how the mansion worked for anyone that was inclined to cook their own food, and Zekhan got the devious idea to have Zar’Kaa make a delicious, really spicy food to see if Sol could eat it. It was incredibly spicy, and Sol was clearly in pain, but he kept eating despite the tears in his eyes.

Lantresor commented he needed some fresh air after the meal, and he wanted to look around the forest for a bit, so he went out of the mansion and offered for Nyxxa and Arthak to join him if they wanted to meditate. Sol went outside with his mouth open in hopes that the burning would end, but that didn’t happen. Outside, Rexxar was playing with Misha and feeding her, and Nisha was also nearby, roosting.

It was beautiful outside, and Lantresor mused that Draenor was beautiful in its own way, but there was an ancientness to the woods that he couldn’t fully understand.

Nyxxa Murkthorn says: It’s home, and it connects to the Dream.
Lantresor says: The Emerald Dream sounds like quite the phenomenon. I’m grateful it has accepted us, if it has. We are strangers, and yet we are possibly welcome into it like any other denizen. I’ve been considering that since you told me that, Arthak.

Arthak was completely engrossed in his notes and not paying attention.

Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Perhaps someday I can experience it myself once more.
Lantresor says: I hope that day can come. No. I don’t hope. I know that it will come.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Thank you.

Meanwhile, not far off from the grotto that the warband had claimed for the camp, nestled in a copse of trees, someone was watching. She was a feathered woman with a massive bird skull over her head like a mask. She had been following them for a short time. This was the furthest she had been from the regions she called home in a while, and these were not the first strangers to arrive on the shore. There were creatures she had never seen before, but others she recognized, like trolls and kaldorei. But there was another elf with dark hair and dark clothes and pale skin. There was a giant masked in a hood of leather accompanied by all manner of beasts. There were also strange, tusked humanoids that were plated in heavy armor.

It was the smell of the cigar that had drawn her to the campsite, but then she had seen the strange, great raven unlike any she had ever seen before. Its beak was jagged and axe-like, its feathers were rough and uneven. The general shape was almost like a vulture, but it was ravenlike, and seemed to be resting.

She had started to mentally panic as she watched. She wasn’t sure what to do, but suddenly she realized she wasn’t the only one watching. Her attention shifted to behind her, and she heard sudden movement through the trees. Then she realized whatever she sensed was approaching her rapidly. She readied herself to react, but then there was a force that connected with her, and two bright eyes lurched through the trees and a hand gripped around her neck.

She and her assailant plummeted out of the tree, and she released a high-pitched screech. Cold steel pressed against her neck, and the warband watched as a night elf tackled a strange bird woman. The night elf had sky blue hair wound up into braids that were tied back into buns, and she had a beautiful knife in hand. Feathers disappeared under her arms as she pinned the other humanoid.

Night Elf says: Alright, harpy, you better start talking fast. What were you doing spying on these people?
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: What is the meaning of this?
Night Elf says: Isn’t it obvious, sister? This harpy was spying on you. Probably seeking to steal from you in the night if you were lucky. Probably slit your throat in the night.
Rak'Symma says: Do not speak as if you know me.
Night Elf says: I know your kind!
Rak'Symma says: I was spying, but on strangers walking into my lands.
Night Elf says: Your lands!?
Rak'Symma says: I have lived here likely longer than you.
Night Elf says: Don’t talk like you know me!
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: We can talk about this without a knife?
Arthak Saurfang says: As my friend said. Though the blade is a traditional way of resolving land disputes, perhaps we can do something else.
Night Elf says: This is a harpy! I’ve never seen a harpy with anything but foul intentions, especially around here. I’m trying to help you!
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: And we appreciate it, but she doesn’t seem to want to cause us any harm. All due respect… ma’am.

She looked at the harpy.

Nyxxa Murkthorn says: I don’t think one could be a danger to us collectively.
Zar'Kaa says: That’s not necessarily true. But.

Zar’Kaa looked at the harpy.

Zar'Kaa says: Do you have a name?
Arthak Saurfang says: Also. What were you doing, if not also spying?
Night Elf says: I was following her, because she was following you.

The night elf looked down at the harpy. She rolled her eyes and let go before pushing the harpy lightly forward.

Rak'Symma says: With that settled, of course I have a name.

She looked at Zar’Kaa with a degree of offense.

Rak'Symma says: It’s Rak'Symma. And if you see by the mark on my face, I mean no harm.

She gestured to the tattoo on her cheek. The night elf squinted and crossed her arms.

Night Elf says: I don’t know what that mark means.
Rak'Symma says: They call me Skyfriend in Thunder Totem.
Night Elf says: I don’t know if I believe you.
Rak'Symma says: Have I made one ill advance on those who I followed?
Night Elf says: Not yet.
Rak'Symma says: How many harpies bide their time?
Night Elf says: Okay! Alright! So what are you doing?
Rak'Symma says: Watching.
Night Elf says: That’s it? Well. I look like an idiot now. Uh.
Sol'chi says: How about we start over.

Sol inhales loudly.

Night Elf says: Are you alright?
Sol'chi says: Spicy food.

The harpy’s head tilted.

Sol'chi says: How about we start over and figure out what’s going on, yeah?
Night Elf says: Yeah. Thisalee Crow. I’m a druid. I was on patrol and saw her, so I followed her. Then I saw she was chasing you, sister. So I thought I would drag her out of the shadows and get her to talk. And I did.
Arthak Saurfang says: You have succeeded, yes.
Thisalee Crow says: Look. I’ve dealt with harpies a long time, and I’ve never met one willing to talk.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: There can be exceptions to the rule.
Zar'Kaa says: I will say in my experience with harpies, they have not been this civil. So that would suggest we are not dealing with the same kind of harpy.
Sol'chi says: Also you put her in some distress and she remained calm.
Rak'Symma says: I know when I am outnumbered.
Arthak Saurfang says: Wise. They call you Skyfriend in Thunder Totem. They know you?
Rak'Symma says: Some.
Arthak Saurfang says: Hm. Are you known in Thunder Totem, Lady Crow?
Thisalee Crow says: Not there, but I have some friends in the area. I’ve never had the chance to go. By the way, what… are you people?
Rak'Symma says: That was what I was trying to discover.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: We are strange.
Rak'Symma says: And you are not the first on these isles.
Arthak Saurfang says: No. I am Arthak Saurfang, warchief of the Horde though I understand that title means little.
Zar'Kaa says: I’m Zar’Kaa, captain of the Darkspear tribe, which may not mean much.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: I am Nycia Thorntree, a visitor, and their guide.
Thisalee Crow says: Oh! Okay!
Sol'chi says: I’m Sol, bringer of honey and purveyor of food.
Thisalee Crow says: Well. Sorry for dropping in unannounced.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Such things are to be expected. We are traveling to Highmountain.
Arthak Saurfang says: It happens more than you think.
Thisalee Crow says: What are you going to Highmountain for?
Arthak Saurfang says: We’re looking to parley with the people of those lands, and to see about an artifact and keeping it out of unwelcome hands. The other outsiders of which you spoke.
Thisalee Crow says: That’s what I’ve been keeping an eye on too.
Zar'Kaa says: So you have some sense of the gravity of our quest?
Thisalee Crow says: We’ve been keeping an eye on the strangers. And the fact there are demons of the Legion among them has not gone unnoticed.
Zar'Kaa says: Yes. Those are the ones we aim to stop.
Arthak Saurfang says: Unfortunately, to keep it brief, some of my people are allied with the Legion. We are attempting to thwart their operations.
Thisalee Crow says: Okay. I’ll come with you then.
Arthak Saurfang says: Might be good to have another guide.
Thisalee Crow says: After all, it sounds like you might consider inviting her along.

She thumbed at the harpy.

Arthak Saurfang says: Do you wish to come along, Skyfriend?
Thisalee Crow says: I just assumed seeing you were heading towards Highmountain.

The harpy was silent and eying the party. There was a heavy sense of apprehension.

Arthak Saurfang says: You don’t have to. If you were watching us, you have observed us, and you could just continuing observing us, or you could come with us and observe us.
Sol'chi says: We still have plenty of food.
Zar'Kaa says: Could be nice to have some company.
Rak'Symma says: Company is rare to come by. If you wish to go speak with the tauren, they have their hands plenty full.
Zar'Kaa says: With what?
Rak'Symma says: Problems that existed long before you.
Arthak Saurfang says: Perhaps we might help with these problems. Please tell.

Rak'Symma took off the skull helmet and it hung down her back.

Rak'Symma says: What brought you here? I will see if it’s worth bringing the tauren.
Arthak Saurfang says: We are attempting to prevent a demonic invasion.
Sol'chi says: A further one.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Another War of the Ancients.
Rak'Symma says: …then maybe you should speak with the chief. If you offend on the way there, I will have the earth swallow you whole.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Noted!
Sol'chi says: I don’t think that would be the first time…
Arthak Saurfang says: No. It’s not.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: We’ll be on our best behavior!

The harpy hesitantly nods.

Thisalee Crow says: I’d be happy to help, especially if it ensures the safety of the isles. And I’m not ready to let this one out of my sight yet.
Arthak Saurfang says: Well. With that settled, we can return to what we were doing. Welcome.
Thisalee Crow says: Nice to meet all you, I guess.

Arthak moved to go back to his notes.

Zar'Kaa says: One question.

He leaned at Symma and squinted. Symma leaned back.

Zar'Kaa says: Was that your scrying sensor?
Rak'Symma says: …No?
Zar'Kaa says: Okay. Got to find that fucking scrying sensor.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: For the record, you’re fine right now, Zar’Kaa.
Zar'Kaa says: Okay, good, but I’m still on the watch.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Symma, is there anything you need right now?
Rak'Symma says: …no.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Okay!
Zar'Kaa says: Feel free to camp out over there.
Thisalee Crow says: Wait. You guys are camping? But the sun isn’t out. Don’t tell me they have you on a diurnal schedule.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Oh. Yeah. It’s not that bad.
Sol'chi says: If you have trouble sleeping I have a spell that can knock you out for an hour and make you feel great.
Thisalee Crow says: What? You look way too young for that.
Sol'chi says: I made the mansion.
Thisalee Crow says: What?

Sol showed Thisalee the mansion and she looked at it, perplexed.

Thisalee Crow says: This is… arcane. I’ve never seen a tauren use arcane magic before. And you’re so young? What the hell?
Sol'chi says: Yeah. I’m pretty good.
Thisalee Crow says: What tribe are you from?
Sol'chi says: Don’t have one. Didn’t grow up with other tauren.
Thisalee Crow says: I’m sorry to hear that. I lost my parents when I was young too. I know what it’s like to alone.
Sol'chi says: Well. I lost my mom a while ago. My dad’s still around, but hje’s an asshole. This is my new mom though.

He patted Nyxxa.

Thisalee Crow says: Aw. That’s sweet. So who are the rest of you?

She was introduced to the rest of the group, including Zekhan, Thura, Rexxar, Levia, and Lantresor. She asked if it was okay if she took a closer look at Nisha, the raven, and she was given leave to interact with the creature as she used a spell to let her speak with beasts. However, throughout the interactions it was obvious she was keeping an eye on the harpy. However, she had been specifically trying to position herself behind Symma more often than not. Arthak raised his eyebrow at her, but Thisalee just smiled. She snapped her fingers like an acknowledgement of frustration as she seemingly noticed Symma’s back was covered by the large skull, and then she stopped trying to reposition herself.

Thisalee asked general questions of Nisha, like her name, and where she was from. There was a mournful look in the dread raven’s eye as she acknowledge she was from far away. Thisalee requested to stroke her plumage, and the raven acquiesced, however the raven seemed to be watching Symma. Symma crouched down so she looked smaller, and she got a bittersweet smile.

Rak'Symma says [sylvan]: Does my helm offend you?
Nisha says: No. It fills me with… sorrow.
Rak'Symma says [sylvan]: Me as well.
Nisha says: Who were they?
Rak'Symma says [sylvan]: He was the light of my life.
Nisha says: I see. He was… he was great.
Rak'Symma says [sylvan]: He was.
Nisha says: I sense a power on him, even now. It is… it is deep. Unlike anything I have seen.
Rak'Symma says [sylvan]: Do you sense his life, or what brought his end?
Nisha says: I sense neither. It is… his presence upon you. Deep. Watching.

Symma’s hand went up to her pendant.

Nisha says: I have not felt that since I flew the spires beneath the Dark Watcher’s gaze.

Symma frowned, as she didn’t understand what that meant.

Rak'Symma says [sylvan]: Do you feel watched or safe?
Nisha says: It is because he watches that we feel safe. He was the safety in the shadow.
Rak'Symma says [sylvan]: The light in the darkness.

The raven crooned in acknowledgement.

Nisha says: You are friend. They will not harm you.
Rak'Symma says [sylvan]: They?

Nisha looked around at the group.

Nisha says: Those whom my brother travels with. They are good. They are friends.
Rak'Symma says [sylvan]: You trust them?
Nisha says: I trust him. He trusts them.

Rexxar was also clearly watching, and it seemed he could understand the raven, but not Symma.

Nisha says: She is yet a hatchling. Do not fault her for her screeches.

She tilted her head toward Thisalee, and there was a quiet croak of amusement. Symma offered a thin smile. Symma pulled out a mixture of nuts and dried meat and offered it to the raven, who accepted it gently. However, Thisalee puffed her cheeks and opted to leave, as she was somewhat jealous that the raven seemed to like Symma better. She opted to look at the mansion suspiciously, and Levia showed her the rage room if she wanted to break things, but she opted to leave instead.

Later, Nyxxa approached Symma and mused that she could understand the beasts too.

Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Is that something all harpies can do?

Symma shook her head.

Rak'Symma says: Yes and no. We have a kinship, but not all can converse.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: A gift then.
Rak'Symma says: One of many.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: You are blessed.
Rak'Symma says: Blessed is not the word I would use.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: I’ve only been able to speak with them for a short time, but I’ve appreciated it a great deal.
Rak'Symma says: There is much to learn. I’ve found very few companions I like better.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: You and Rexxar will get along swimmingly.
Rak'Symma says: It did not seem we spoke the same language.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: He is learning. I’m sure if you wish to speak with him, someone can translate.
Rak'Symma says: If you travel further north. Make sure he keeps Nisha safe.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Why is that?
Rak'Symma says: It’s… a bad time to be a bird. There are those that would see their feathers rot. And they mind be taken.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: That’s awful. Why?
Rak'Symma says: So they can be controlled.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Is that something you’re looking to stop?
Rak'Symma says: One of many.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Well, if I can, I would like to help. I cannot stand the thought of corrupting someone to control them.

Symma tilted her head.

Nyxxa Murkthorn says: I’ll let him know.

Nyxxa went to inform Rexxar of the news.

Inside the manor, Zar’Kaa found Levia inside the rage room that Sol always kept set up. As he came in, she had her spiked bat swinging around and blasting things with black fire. Levia turned in Zar’Kaa’s direction.

Levia Blackflight says: Oh. It’s you.
Zar'Kaa says: Hi. Thought since we had a free moment, it would be a good time for you and I to chat.
Levia Blackflight says: Sure.

Levia lifted her club and obliterated a statue of Zar’Kaa’s face and hefted her club over her shoulder.

Levia Blackflight says: I was just finishing up.
Zar'Kaa says: Good hit. I think I would be quicker than that–
Levia Blackflight says: Good thing I didn’t ask. What do you want?
Zar'Kaa says: Look. Levia. I know back at the Hold I pissed you off quite a bit. That was not something I was trying to do. Look. It just comes down to this. We’re going to be working together, and if that’s the case, it might be good to gain some perspective from one another. Hell, that was the first time you and I really talked. I’m not saying we need to be best pals, but it would be best if we at least weren’t at odds.
Levia Blackflight says: You really aren’t good at making friends, are you?
Zar'Kaa says: See this is kind of what I’m talking about.
Levia Blackflight says: Zar’Kaa, you literally came in here and the first thing you said is that you would do it better than me.
Zar'Kaa says: Just a quip.
Levia Blackflight says: I don’t care. Quips between friends are fine, but we aren’t friends. You haven’t done anything that would make me consider you anything close to a friend.
Zar'Kaa says: No. I haven’t. But right now I am at least trying. Rather than avoiding the issue.
Levia Blackflight says: This is trying? The only thing you’ve actually done is come in here and say, hey, we’re stuck together, so get over it.
Zar'Kaa says: I don’t think I said that.
Levia Blackflight says: Yeah you did. You just dressed it up better.
Zar'Kaa says: Okay, so me trying to meet you where you are isn’t going to work, what do you want me to do?
Levia Blackflight says: Something. It’s not my responsibility to figure that out for you.
Zar'Kaa says: No. But I can’t read your mind. I don’t know what you want me to do. Which is why we’re talking. I can make guesses, but they’ll probably be wrong. I could make assumptions, but that would piss you off. You clearly wouldn’t think twice about if I disappeared.
Levia Blackflight says: Sound familiar?
Zar'Kaa says: What do you mean?
Levia Blackflight says: You know what that’s supposed to mean, Zar’Kaa. Look. You’re not going to have any problems from me. And you’re right. I wouldn’t think twice if you disappeared, but if you’re afraid I’m going to kill you–
Zar'Kaa says: I’m not afraid of that. I’m not talking about that. I’m not coming to you to save my ass. If I was, this would be a different discussion. I just don’t understand.
Levia Blackflight says: What?
Zar'Kaa says: I said some unkind things about your friend, but you have no context.
Levia Blackflight says: Are you serious? You almost had me, but then you made excuse after excuse about why you’re right. I hate that shit, Zar’Kaa. You remind me of the people that did this to me, because it’s never your fault, even your apologies stink of shit. I’m sure vel’s side of the story doesn’t take into account everything you’ve been through, but I know what type of person she is. And I know you’re making a ton of excuses about her because of what she is. You’ve been told what demons do. Arthak conquered Silvermoon, but I had to unlock the damn door. I’m a traitor of my people, Zar’Kaa, and I know what it is to be scum, but I’m not the worst out there, but I can tell a goddamned apology.
Zar'Kaa says: So you aren’t the worst out there, but I am?
Levia Blackflight says: It’s always about you. All the time.
Zar'Kaa says: No it’s not, but your words are about me.

Levia had dropped into her fiendish form again, the disguise gone.

Zar'Kaa says: I can’t make any amends with your friend. And to be honest, I don’t have any desire to. I’d rather not bullshit you about that. But I also couldn’t do anything if I wanted to. I understand the situation well enough on the surface. I have no business speaking to the elves and making things more messy, so all I can do instead is start with you.
Levia Blackflight says: You might want to start over.
Zar'Kaa says: Okay. Lets try this. Hi. I’m Zar’Kaa of the Darkspear tribe.

Levia rolled her eyes.

Zar'Kaa says: A lot of times I like to think I’m right because it give me power. But I know deep down inside that I’m not always right. And every time I realize that, it gnaws at me, because I know I can’t always be right. And that’s not your fault. But at least I have seen what happens when I stoop to that level. And when I can help it, I don’t want to. So. Maybe if you give me a chance, that won’t happen again. Or. You could just keep breaking busts of me and I’ll leave you alone. Choice is yours.
Levia Blackflight says: Yeah. It’s buried real deep down in there, isn’t it. Look. Zar’Kaa. I don’t know what your life has been. I don’t need to know how rough it’s been. We’ve all been through shit. Each and every one of us here. I’m sure the way you think you act makes sense in your head. Look, what I’m trying to say, is you’re allowed to be fucking angry about the things that happened in your life, but point your weapon in the right goddamned direction. If you’re going to use your trauma as armor, make sure it fits. Otherwise it’ll just tear you up. Trust me. Now look. I’m going to keep breaking these busts. But think on the shit you told me. Don’t just forget about it. Maybe if you actually start acting like it, and you start showing you want to make amends, maybe I’ll stop breaking them. That’s all I have to say about it.
Zar'Kaa says: Alright. And if it’s any consolation, I don’t get anything.
Levia Blackflight says: Yeah. It’s obvious.
Zar'Kaa says: But that’s all I have to say. I’ll leave you to… whatever it is you were doing.
Levia Blackflight says: Well I’m done now. Get some sleep.
Zar'Kaa says: No promises.

Zar’Kaa felt Bru’kan’s presence, as if he was listening, but he didn’t say anything.

November 12th

The next morning, the group headed out from their campsite.

Thisalee Crow says: So are you guys headed straight to Thunder Totem?
Sol'chi says: We want to be able to see a good distance, then we’ll teleport.
Zar'Kaa says: Nonetheless, Thunder Totem is our destination.
Thisalee Crow says: It’s a shame I’m not…

She pouted.

Thisalee Crow says: If I was a bit stronger I could help us get there.
Rak'Symma says: Technically I could take us right there.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Oh?
Rak'Symma says: I do know every rock and tree…
Sol'chi says: What’s the highest tier of spell you can cast?

The question didn’t seem to register on the harpy.

Rak'Symma says: I know all the good trees.
Thisalee Crow says: You can do that?
Rak'Symma says: Yes.
Thisalee Crow says: That’s seriously impressive magic.
Rak'Symma says: I… said I had gifts.
Thisalee Crow says: Yeah, you weren’t kidding…

It was the first time Thisalee looked at her without suspicion and was more just in awe.

Nyxxa Murkthorn says: If you could, could we transport a bit away? We wouldn’t want to surprise them.
Rak'Symma says: Oh. It wasn’t going to be into the city…
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Thank you for clarifying, I wanted to make sure.
Thisalee Crow says: There is a lodge nearby. I don’t know if you’ve been there. I know some people.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: The Trueshot Lodge?
Thisalee Crow says: You know of it?
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: Yeah, we were invited.
Thisalee Crow says: Oh. We can go there some other time then. They may have information, and they… may know what that mark of yours means.

Thisalee looked away.

Rexxar says [orcish]: These people at the Trueshot Lodge. Would they know more of the events she warned you of?

Nyxxa translated Rexxar to the group. Symma had started to channel the magic.

Rak'Symma says: If they know of it, few have done anything to stop it.

Rexxar approached Symma and looked down at her as he spoke in broken darnassian.

Rexxar says: I. Will. Wilds. Protect. If. You. Go. I. Follow. Save.

He pointed at Nisha.

Rexxar says: uh… can. Fly. Home. Later.

Symma’s face lights up, but she does a small shake of her head as she spoke as simply as she could back.

Rak'Symma says: Very dangerous. You must be careful. Always.

Rexxar nodded after a moment.

Rexxar says: Strength.

He looked back over to Nyxxa.

Rexxar says [orcish]: Was that… alright?
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: It was very good, Rexxar!

Nyxxa was beaming.

Rexxar says [orcish]: I want to aid her in her quest. This sickness, I cannot abide it.
Nyxxa Murkthorn says: I feel the same, and you made that very clear.

Symma continued to conjure the magic, and the trunk of a nearby tree split into a doorway that looked like it had been struck by lightning. But all that was in the shimmering portal was sky.

The harpy felt a gust of wind, and on it she heard a caw of distress. It was a familiar one, but not one she could put her talon on. She felt the earth start to tremble and split beneath her feet, and she heard a whisper: “Go. Save them.”

The voice was one she never heard before, but it sounded so terribly familiar. None of the others felt or noticed anything.

She directed the spell to the tree that was immediately outside Thunder Totem. The city was built on top of a sprawling mesa, and the tree sat below the tauren settlement in the fields of the Earthmother’s Bounty. They could see high mountains and waterfalls all around, and above them was a multi-tiered city built in and through the mesa. At the top was an amazing multi-colored tower-like structure that pierced the sky and was decorated with many banners. On the mountains were beautiful paintings emblazoned on the stone, one of which was a great tauren warrior wielding a spear against a demon, another was two owls holding the sun and moons with a beautiful female tauren between them. The paintings were hundreds of feet tall on the side of the mountains.

Everything seemed fine, despite the fact Symma’s heart was still racing.

Nyxxa and Sol were checking on Rak'Symma, though Arthak and Zar’Kaa looked out for signs of danger. Zar’Kaa saw nothing, nor did Arthak and Symma, but Symma knew deep in her heart that she needed to warn the tauren. Something was going to happen. Arthak placed his stone hand on the ground, as he also felt something, and it almost felt as if an invisible tide was pulling back.

Arthak Saurfang says: Something from beneath the earth… we need to move.
Zar'Kaa says: Um. Okay?

Symma looked around, and she realized there were a lot of regular eagles in the sky. And there were also… a lot of tauren around. There were totems that would indicate leadership of almost all the tribes in Highmountain. And there were also a large number of drogbar, which were allies of the tauren, but for them to be present in so many numbers was rare.

There was likely some meeting going on.

Symma took off into the sky to get a better look. She got maybe a fifth up the height of Thunder Totem, and then they all heard a tremendous crash, and debris and wood and stone erupted out of the sides of the city. The mesa it was on quakes and buckles, and sharp crystals of amber erupted out of the side of the mesa as the entire area was rocked with a seismic event. Then there was screaming, and they heard a war cry from within.

Symma saw some of the drogbar raised their clubs. Some seemed surprised, others less surprised, but many of them descended on the tauren as a fight immediately broke out all over Thunder Totem.

Zar'Kaa says: As you said, we gotta move!

They all drew their weapons and immediately started to move. Symma was searching for any of the tauren familiar to her, and she knew the meeting chamber would have been where any gatherings would have taken place. However, drogbar were actively fighting in the ground entrance to the center of the mountain. She took off toward the base of the tunnels, and the rest of the warband followed after, though Nyxxa took flight as well.

The group fought their way through the small number of drogbar that were standing in their way. When they arrived in the meeting chamber, they saw a massive, interior chamber that was bisected by a stream. Totems of all the major tribes surrounded the chamber, but everything was in ruins. There were shards of wood scattered, and many of the totems had fallen. At the center was the epicenter of whatever happened.

Several tauren were there, each of them bearing the iconography of different tribes. One was an older female tauren with markings that evoked water, another with a bloodied fist, another with an eagle’s talon… Rak’symma recognized them as the leaders of the biggest tribes. They stood with their weapons drawn or their hands over their faces.

But at the center was a pillar of yellowish gold amber, a spike of stone and crystal thrust out of the earth, and on the pinnacle was the corpse of Ulan Highmountain, the chieftain of the Highmountain tribe. Mayla was on her knees nearby, her weapon in her hands, in shock. Next to her was an older tauren with engraved antlers, and his hand was reaching out, trembling, shock and fear on his face.

Dark-Furred Tauren shouts: No… what have you DONE?

It was Spiritwalker Ebonhorn. He turned, and they saw a drogbar. He was large even amongst drogbar, and he had a proud headdress of golden spikes. In his hand was a massive malachite hammer, and his face bore an expression of shock and pain. He was shaking and panting.

Ebonhorn says: You’ve started a war you cannot win, Dargrul!

Nyxxa, however, did not see a tauren where Ebonhorn stood. She saw a long shadow, and his wide antlers sparked with a supernatural glow, and his voice echoed with rage and power the others didn’t detect. She saw the draconic features that covered him as well, and she could tell he was actually an adult black dragon.

Dargrul the Underking says: No… I’m not starting a war... I’m finishing it!

He hefted the hammer over his head.
