Outland Day 16
The [Haste] spell subsides and a wave of fatigue washes over Nyxxa. She stands over the slain husk of the rogue demon hunter, and her tattoos pulse with power as the power she had consumed from him consolidates itself within her own being. It’s euphoric, but she is able to maintain her senses.
Azgadaan says: Are you doing okay, Nyxxa?
Azgadaan had caught up with her, and Nyxxa nods.
Nyxxa says: Nothing to worry about. But…
She looks down at the body.
Nyxxa says: We should really bring this back so that we can burn it with the rest of them.
Azgadaan says: Ah… yeah. I have some other thoughts about that. But we should take a rest.
Nyxxa pats him on the shoulder.
Nyxxa says: Thanks by the way! Without your input we would have led them all to Garadar! I’m trying my best not to think about that.
Azgadaan says: Well, thank you. That would have truly been a mess. I’ll bring this one back so you don’t have to lift him.
Azgadaan goes to grab the dead elf by the scruff, but Nyxxa darts in and gives the eredar a quick hug
Azgadaan says: Ah, wasn’t expecting this, but, well, alright.
Azgadaan hugs her back and then they both start to head back to the group with the dead demon hunter in tow.
Azgadaan says: So… you just ate that guy, right?
Nyxxa scratches her head.
Nyxxa says: Well, this is kind of the fight he signed up for. He probably would have done the same.
Azgadaan says: I guess… whoever he was is going to have some fun with Vaerux in there.
Nyxxa hears cackling laughter in the back of her head.
Nyxxa says: He seems to be pleased… but I didn’t do this for him.
Azgadaan says: Maybe this will get him off your back. Where did you see this one pop out of? Lets just retrace the steps to make sure they didn’t leave anything behind.
Nyxxa nods and does a quick sweep, but there didn’t seem to be any sign of drops or signals to his fellows. He was more focused on trying to escape.
Meanwhile, with the rest of the group, Sadras comes paddling over to where Arthak had shrank back down in the water.
Sadras says: Arthak! You alright?
Arthak grunts.
Arthak Saurfang says: Hard fight, but we’re here.
Sadras throws an arm around him to help back to the shore while tapping into her healing magics to patch up some of the more grievous injuries. A wafting, greenish-yellow wind swirls around him. The pond was quite a bit shallower than it was before, and steam was rushing all over the area from the heat of the three infernals that had been dropped into it. Rexxar and Lantresor were waiting to help Arthak out, and Altruis lay in the water for a moment to just stare at the sky. His headband was floating in the water nearby.
Azuka ran up to Arthak and Sadras quickly recruited her to help look over some of Arthak’s more severe wounds.
Levia was leaning against a cliff-face, her wings out and her face vacant and she was just trying to take in what exactly had happened. Arthak looked over at her.
Arthak Saurfang says: Impressive.
Levia blinks twice and nods, clearly confused.
Nyxxa and Azagadaan return before too long, and Nyxxa immediately raced over to hug Levia. She was shrugging off her jacket and it seemed to be caught on one of her wings.
Levia Blackflight says: Oh. Um. Hi. Did you catch the other one?
Azgadaan holds the corpse up.
Azgadaan says: We got the last one!
Levia Blackflight says: Good.
Nyxxa says: Levia, that was so cool!
Levia Blackflight says: Yeah… I… don’t… I notice they’ve been itching lately, but I don’t know what happened. They kind of jacked up my coat.
Azgadaan says: I can mend your jacket for you? Maybe later we can make some adjustments to fit your new wings.
Levia Blackflight says: Yeah. Well, I guess they won’t fit how it was before.
Levia kneeled down and drew her sword to start to cut more room into the wing holes that were present on them.
Upon hearing Nyxxa arrive, Altruis scaled the edge of the cliff. He had a fair amount of cuts and bruises, but seemed to be moving well enough. He clapped his hands together as he stood up from the edge.
Altruis Shadowsong says [darnassian]: Well! Whatever suspicions I had have been thoroughly dispelled, Nyxxa.
Nyxxa says [darnassian]: Yeah, sorry about that, I didn’t realize there were… so many?
Altruis crouched next to the corpse of one of the felbats.
Altruis Shadowsong says [darnassian]: I know I’ve had some individuals following me for some time now, but I guess I was more popular than I realized.
Nyxxa says [darnassian]: I’d say. Nice to meet you, by the way!
Nyxxa held out her hand, and Altruis looked at it, then back at Nyxxa, and then to everyone else–specifically Azgadaan and Levia, but he smirked and took it.
Altruis Shadowsong says [darnassian]: Likewise. We met each other briefly many years ago, but I imagine you don’t remember that?
Nyxxa says [darnassian]: Nope! All that memory is gone. It was important for what I was doing at the time. But now I’m in it and don’t really know what I’m doing!
Nyxxa shrugged.
Altruis Shadowsong says [darnassian]: Well, I imagine there will be time for you to fix that in the future.
Nyxxa nodded.
Nyxxa says [darnassian]: I ran into Loramus too!
Altruis Shadowsong says [darnassian]: Did you? I’m sure that was fun.
Nyxxa says [darnassian]: It was!
Altruis chuckled.
Nyxxa says [darnassian]: By the way, do you know orcish?
Altruis Shadowsong says [darnassian]: I picked up pieces… I should be passable. If I need any help figuring out a word, I’ll let you know.
Altruis looked around again and switched to orcish.
Altruis Shadowsong says: Interesting group you’re traveling with.
Nyxxed nodded.
Nyxxa says: A good group! Except…
She pointed at Halno.
Nyxxa says: He’s… alright. But the rest are good!
Halno gave a sarcastic, drawn out wave, and Altruis’s brow raised.
Altruis Shadowsong says: Right. I’ll have to take your word. Name’s Altruis, everyone, it’s a pleasure.
He placed two fingers in his mouth and whistled before calling out.
Altruis Shadowsong says: Neth! These people are safe, you can land!
The nether drake that was circling in the air started to drop and landed nearby the group with a powerful beat of its wings.
Altruis Shadowsong says: This is Nethrandamus.
The nether drake nodded.
Nethrandamus says [draconic]: Nice to meet you.
Nyxxa says [draconic]: Pleasure to meet you as well! I’ve been wanting to meet a drake like you!
Nethrandamus says [draconic]: Really? Why?
Nyxxa says [draconic]: That’s a long story! Are you guys doing alright?
Altruis had started to bind some of his injuries.
Altruis Shadowsong says: Nothing serious. Everything is attached and nothing seems to be broken. I’ll recover. Your concern is appreciated.
Nyxxa gave a thumbs up.
Nyxxa says: Maybe we should see to the bodies?
Azgadaan says: This probably wasn’t all of them. There’s probably a camp somewhere if they were dragging around infernals.
Altruis Shadowsong says: If there are anymore of them, I’ll make sure they don’t get out of here alive. I wouldn’t worry too much. They couldn’t have made many more than this.
Nyxxa says: They really pulled out all the stops for you.
Altruis Shadowsong says: I’m a pretty popular guy.
Nyxxa says: What did you do!?
Altruis chuckled.
Altruis Shadowsong says: A bit of a long story. There will be time for that later.
Rexxar says: Don’t concern yourselves with the bodies. That, I can take care of.
He whistled.
Rexxar says: Puffer! Where’d you run off to?
Before too long, Rexxar’s massive boar appeared, his tusks stained with bright green blood. He snorted and quickly set to work snuffling around to make sure nothing would remain.
Nyxxa approached Arthak to see if he wanted to be part of the conversation given the fact he was trying to keep plausible deniability, and Arthak glanced at Nyxxa and then back at Altruis.
Arthak Saurfang says: Hrm. I appear to have lost a lot of blood. People who are dazed due to blood loss are prone to wandering off.
He grunted as he got to his feet and moved away to ensure he couldn’t hear anything that was being spoken about.
Nyxxa says: Ah. Bye Arthak.
Altruis Shadowsong says: Do I want to know what his deal is?
Nyxxa says: He’s more directly involved with certain things… so the less he knows, the better.
Altruis Shadowsong says: Gotcha. Makes enough sense.
The group settled down to rest while they spoke and Nyxxa informed Levia that she had consumed the soul of the demon hunter that had fled.
Levia Blackflight says: So what does that mean? Did you learn something, or what?
Nyxxa says: Well. I think it messed with my head a bit, but I just feel rejuvenated.
Levia Blackflight says: You seem a little giddy.
Nyxxa says: Just a bit! It’s not that bad, is it?
Azgadaan says: Well, you could always ask Altruis if that’s typical or not. He’s probably had a longer memory about all this.
Nyxxa says: You know, that’s a good idea!
Nyxxa got up and walked over to Altruis.
Nyxxa says: So, uh, dumb question maybe.
Altruis raised an eyebrow.
Nyxxa says: So I may have… well, I just flat out ate one of their souls back there.
Altruis Shadowsong says: Is that so?
Nyxxa says: Is there anything I should worry about?
Altruis Shadowsong says: Don’t tell me you don’t remember any of your training.
Nyxxa says: I… remember my training and I know that it’s more power for the cost of risking losing control, but other than that… I remember the basics.
Altruis smiled.
Altruis Shadowsong says: That’s impressive. The Slayer must have some pretty influential allies if she’s able to wipe so much out while letting you retain most of your training. As long as you don’t overdo it, then you should be fine. Just be careful.
Nyxxa says: This was more or less to… prove a point eventually? Caria took some things I did personally, and no she’s out to destroy everyone I care about before she destroys me. So. You know.
Altruis furrowed his brow.
Altruis Shadowsong says: This has to do with Caria then?
Nyxxa nodded.
Nyxxa says: Yeah, she’s the one that’s been assigned to handle the Illidari.
Altruis Shadowsong says: Well. At least that’ll make her easier to find. I presume these imposters were some of her handiwork?
Nyxxa says: I can bring you up to speed on what’s been happening has far as she’s concerned.
Nyxxa quickly summarized what had happened in Silvermoon as well as explained why Caria was specifically mad at her.
Altruis Shadowsong says: Well, I never had the opportunity to know anyone in your class very intently. I hadn’t spent much time at our base of operations during that period. But it’s never easy when one of our number goes rogue. Considering her fixation, you’re eventually going to need to come to blows with her.
Nyxxa says: I’m aware.
Altruis Shadowsong says: Good. Sooner or later she’s going to realize you had something to do with this. I’m good, but I don’t think I would have been able to hold all these people off indefinitely. She’ll figure out you had a part to play through assumption if not evidence.
Nyxxa says: Yeah… functionally she’s started her own cohort of demon hunters. Frankly, if they’re going to involve themselves in a fight they know nothing about… then that was my way of showing that I’m not going to show them any mercy.
Altruis smiled again.
Nyxxa says: Not going to make a habit, but I think one is enough to prove a point, right?
Altruis chuckled.
Altruis Shadowsong says: We’ll have to see about that. But it’s a start. I’m glad to hear that you were not as much of a traitor as the Slayer informed us you were.
Nyxxa says: What I do remember is I think that was part of the stipulation of my joining in the first place. That I would… do that.
Altruis Shadowsong says: She loves her schemes, she does.
Nyxxa says: That seems about right.
Altruis Shadowsong says: It’s probably time we get your companions together and talk about the circumstances that lead you here. And maybe I can answer a few more questions about what I’ve been doing here. I assume the individuals here can be trusted?
Nyxxa says: Yes. Well. Actually.
She looked over at Rexxar.
Nyxxa says: Rexxar, how do you feel about collusion? Or do you just want to hang out with Arthak?
Rexxar looked at Nyxxa and squinted, and it’s evident that he probably didn’t know what “collusion” meant.
Nyxxa says: Oh. Um. Do you want to be privy to some stuff, well, more stuff that is anti-Legion? If not you can go hang out with Arthak.
Rexxar says: If you’re asking if I want to be part of your schemes, then no, I have no interest. I trust you’ll tell me what I need to know.
Nyxxa says: Okay!
Rexxar went off to tend to his own business and to make sure Arthak didn’t wander off. Altruis looked at Nyxxa.
Altruis Shadowsong says: Well, the first thing you asked was what I did that got on their bad side. Truthfully, I’m not sure. I didn’t even know these false demon hunters existed. However, my presence hasn’t gone unnoticed. I’ve been poking my nose into places it shouldn’t be, after all. I’m here trying to learn the extent of Legion control on this world, what they’ve been up to, and what caused the world to get to this point. A world doesn’t fall to pieces on its own, after all.
Nyxxa nodded.
Altruis Shadowsong says: I’ve had the opportunity to interview some people here. Some orcs. Some of the native krokul as well. I’ve learned a number of things that lead me to the western coast. Evidently there were a number of quakes that rocked the continent before it shattered. That lead me to where the epicenter seemed to be, where I found no small amount of Legion presence. They have a forge camp set up near where the world crumbles down to nothing. I recognized the materials they’re using. It seems to me that the portal’s collapse was only the spark, but the Legion provided the kindling.
Altruis looked over at Azgadaan.
Azgadaan says: No, I agree. They were fucking with some things before we left.
Nyxxa says: I was stationed at a forge camp up north.
Altruis Shadowsong says: I’m not an expert on any of this. If Jace was here, he could probably get us more definitive answers, but I think whatever they were doing at those forge camps destabilized the planet and caused its collapse.
Azgadaan says: There were earthquakes nearly constantly before we left.
Altruis Shadowsong says: It’s just a hunch, but do you know anything about Legion technology that could move a planet?
Azgdaaan said he wasn’t sure of anything personally, though theoretically he supposed it could be possible.
Altruis Shadowsong says: I feel like that may be what these forge camps are for. I don’t know any of the magics that do it, but, I think they were trying to bring this world into the Nether before it broken into pieces. I think that was an unfortunate side effect, and the intel I got from Sal from before he defected points in that direction.
Azgadaan says: The other abnormal thing that happened was the tree emerged in the middle of that portal?
Altruis Shadowsong says: So I saw! Didn’t get a chance to get close to it. There was too much happening. But I did see it at a distance.
Altruis shakes his head.
Altruis Shadowsong says: Can’t say I know much about that. It doesn’t look like any magic I’ve ever seen. I didn’t have the privilege of seeing the tree itself on the other side. Just the nest of roots that choked out the portal.
Nyxxa says: No one knows where it came from.
Nyxxa looks over at Veena.
Altruis Shadowsong says: Yeah what’s the deal with this creature here?
Azuka Stormbreaker says: I… don’t know. This… she found me. I was on this side when the world shook. I found her, or rather she found me, after a few months. The others think she may be connected to that tree somehow.
Altruis crosses his arms and shrugs.
Altruis Shadowsong says: Doesn’t seem to look anything like anything that would be connected to a world tree… not that I would know much. I’m hardly a druid.
Azgadaam offers to get Veena’s opinion and casts speak with plants. Altruis watches curiously. Veena was just listening and humming along and didn’t seem to have much to add.
Altruis Shadowsong says: Curious magic. I’ve never seen a demon do that, but I’ve seen crazier things.
Azgadaan says: I recently picked it up.
Altruis Shadowsong says: Impressive. I see why you keep this one around.
He smirks at Nyxxa, who pats Azgadaan’s shoulder.
Nyxxa says: he’s a good kid.
Azgadaan says: I try my best.
Azgadaan pulls her into a quick side hug.
Nyxxa says: He picked up on the idea we might be followed. We just didn’t know how many.
Azgadaan says: It took me a second to connect the dots, but I’m glad we did when we did.
Altruis furrowed his brow.
Altruis Shadowsong says: How long have you been in Nagrand?
Azgadaan says: We just got here yesterday.
Altruis Shadowsong says: I’m pretty sure these guys have been tailing me for the last week. I suppose they ended up following you. That coin led me straight to you. At least we took care of the problem.
Nyxxa nodded.
Altruis Shadowsong says: So. Curiosity. What led you out here? It couldn’t have just been to find me.
Nyxxa says: That…
Nyxxa glanced at Sadras.
Nyxxa says: I’m not sure I’m allowed to say.
Altruis nodded.
Altruis Shadowsong says: Fair enough.
Nyxxa says: We’ve got a couple of projects on the backburner… but I don’t think I’ve told any of you my actual mission, so I might as well just say. I’m here to look out for… him.
Nyxxa pointed in the direction Arthak had disappeared into.
Nyxxa says: This is something that he’d prefer not to be discussed at length, so…
Altruis glanced over in Arthak’s direction.
Altruis Shadowsong says: Can’t say I’m a little curious as to what makes this orc so special.
Nyxxa pursed her lips and looked at the gathered group.
Nyxxa says: He’s… Broxigar’s son.
Altruis Shadowsong says: I see. And I suppose the Slayer wants to see him?
Nyxxa nodded.
Altruis Shadowsong says: Well he’s a good fighter, that’s for sure.
Nyxxa says: Yeah, keeping him alive in a fight is less what I’m worried about. I think that’s something we can all agree on.
Azgadaan says: Yeah…
Altruis Shadowsong says: Well, if she thinks that a worthwhile endeavor I hope he ends up being a good asset. I was a bit young during the War of the Ancients so I never got to see this Broxigar fellow.
Azgadaan says: Wait, what? Roll that back please?
Altruis Shadowsong says: I was young during the War of the Ancients, so I never got to see Broxigar myself?
Azgadaan says: The War of the Ancients happened a very long time ago.
Altruis Shadowsong says: That’s right.
Azgadaan says: As far as I know, Broxigar was less than a hundred years old because he’s Arthak’s father... So an orc. And orcs don’t live that long. How?
Altruis shrugged.
Nyxxa says: We don’t know.
Altruis Shadowsong says: I wasn’t exactly privy to the information. I was maybe five years old. I was mostly hiding and trying not to get burned alive by demons.
Nyxxa says: This is something that’s…
Azgadaan says: Weird. Yes.
Nyxxa says: We don’t know what happened, but it happened, so I’ve been asked to protect his son. That’s something that… I probably need to break the news to him eventually, but… At this point, given everything, I should have brought you up to speed on it a bit ago. It is what it is. I trust you guys not to spread it around.
Sadras says: Well, I guess is it possible it wasn’t his father? Was his father named for someone else?
Levia Blackflight says: That still doesn’t explain how an orc got on Azeroth in the first place, especially if it was thousands of years ago.
Azgadaan considers the possibilities, but he can’t think of any examples of random portals or time gates or anything that would even breach the possibility of getting Broxigar back to that time frame on a completely different planet.
Azgadaan says: Maybe if we get the chance to look into this, we should?
Nyxxa says: I… wouldn’t. We have enough on our plate. I was advised that the less we interfere with that, the better, hence why I never really said anything. Broxigar is gone. From what I was told, he was never found. He disappeared during the war. Whatever happened likely…
Nyxxa shrugged.
Altruis Shadowsong says: He’s known to have given his life during the war. I don’t think they ever found a body, but when most of the world sinks under the sea, that tends to happen.
Nyxxa nodded.
Levia Blackflight says: If I’m remembering the story right, I heard something about this Broxigar fellow going and picking a fight with Gul’dan. So if anyone knows anything, it’s probably him. Not that he’s going to tell anyone.
Nyxxa says: I would prefer not to ask. That’s literally in the past. When I tell Arthak, what Arthak decides to do with it, that’s his own choice. Go’el was the one that asked me not to tell him.
Azgadaan says: Arthak did say before that Broxigar fought the Dark Titan…
Altruis Shadowsong says: It’s possible. Again, I only know the stories. Stories tend to stretch the truth, but sometimes the truth is stranger. All that aside, he’s not Broxigar.
Nyxxa says: He still carries an importance with him. The Slayer has been apprised, he wants to meet him.
Altruis Shadowsong says: Then she’ll have to meet him for herself. He can hold his own. Better to have more allies, but if she expects him to have some sort of magical importance that can beat the Burning Legion permanently, I don’t think that legacies carry that power.
Nyxxa shook her head.
Nyxxa says: I don’t think that’s the case. But I don’t feel comfortable talking about Arthak when he’s not even here. That aside, concerning the forge camps, these people actually found me at a forge camp up north that may not be there anymore, but I know they were using it to make a powerful weapon.
Altruis Shadowsong says: Not surprised. These things seem to have a lot of functions. My guess is it’s still there, they’ve just repurposed it. They’ve been building weapons. Fel reavers, infernal machines, gates, things to secure a foothold. I don’t know what their long-term goal is, but my job is to assess their grip on this world and do what I can to hinder it. To wit, I’ll be looking into some sympathetic individuals.
Azgadaan says: People who are fighting the Legion here… I’d say the Ashtongue?
Altruis Shadowsong says: I’ve heard of them. I’m planning on looking into them after I look into the other forge camps.
Nyxxa says: You do technically have a contact with them?
Azgadaan says: I could potentially prepare a dream ritual and send you to him.
Nyxxa says: Shouldn’t you let him know you’re going to do that first?
Azgadaan says: We don’t know where he is, so I can’t exactly send him, unfortunately.
Altruis Shadowsong says: I may not be my cousin, but I’m pretty good at finding people when I need to.
Azgadaan says: Oh, is the other guy your cousin?
Altruis Shadowsong says: Other guy? What other guy, I don’t… Oh. You mean Loramus? No. No no no. I know Loramus. He was one of the first demon hunters, but no, no. He and I are not related. Believe it or not, not every kaldorei you run into is related. I know, hard to believe. But I should be able to find these Ashtongue without too much trouble. If I wander about looking suspicious long enough they’ll likely find me. They don’t sound that different from the Sentinels.
Azgadaan says: We can point out a few spots we’ve seen their activity? There’s one spot they… may be making something?
Altruis Shadowsong says: That would be helpful.
Nyxxa says: They are also planning something…
Altruis Shadowsong says: I won’t ask too much about where your journey is taking you, but are you heading in the direction of either of the forge camps in Nagrand? Because I can tell you more information about them.
Azgadaan says: That would be valuable information!
Altruis Shadowsong says: I wager. I get the sense I’ve seen your face before.
He glanced at Azgadaan.
Azgadaan says: Ah, my picture! 10,000 rezzi!
Altruis Shadowsong says: Seems I’m not the only one that’s popular. You’re lucky these ones couldn’t see you with your helmet on.
Azgadaan says: I can make them see whatever I want them to see.
Azgadaan shifted into the form of a satyr, and Altruis nodded.
Altruis Shadowsong says: There are two. There’s one near a corrupted fortress. It’s called Twilight Ridge. One is to the northeast, and another to the southeast. The northern one they call Forge Camp Hate. Seems to be run by an eredar named Demos. That’s the one that our mutual friend that you got that coin off of was from.
Nyxxa nodded.
Nyxxa says: Oh, he asked if I should return it?
Altruis Shadowsong says: I’ll take it and hand it back to him next time I need his help.
Nyxxa nodded and handed the coin over to Altruis. Azgadaan tried to recall the name Demos, but he didn’t know the name specifically. However, he could wager that the eredar was probably a member of the same organization that was in charge of all the artifice. However, he was not one of the leaders.
Altruis Shadowsong says: The southernmost forge camp is Forge Camp Fear. It’s run by a pit lord named Xirkos. He is definitely the more dangerous of the two. If you’re not planning on heading in those directions, I would stay clear. They are quite well occupied and have more than a few weapons posted around. I only got the information I have from extracting it from individuals I’ve run across. But I know there are other forge camps across this broken land, and I plan to find some of them so I can find out what our priority targets are. If I can do some sabotage, the better. Plus the more information I can give these Ashtongue, also more the better.
Altruis looked over the group.
Altruis Shadowsong says: I wish to move on before long. I have more than a bit of ground to make up, but you have my thanks. If there’s anything else I can help with, let me know.
Nyxxa says: Oh, I have a question concerning your friend here?
Altruis Shadowsong says: What of him?
Nyxxa says [draconic]: I’m actually looking for dragons in Outland on behalf of a friend of one that went missing here. There are more than I expected.
Nethrandamus looked at Nyxxa and shook his head.
Nethrandamus says [draconic]: Sorry, I don’t know much about what I am.
Nyxxa says [draconic]: That’s fine.
Altruis Shadowsong says: I can at least tell you about the circumstances of how I ran into this fellow. They aren’t ordinary dragons. I encountered this one shortly before he hatched. I don’t know how long it’s been, but it hasn’t been a year yet since he hatched. They grow quickly. I found this one and others being experimented on by some orcish warlocks. They’re not a problem. I liberated him and the other eggs, but his was the only one that survived. I thought they belonged to other dragons so I tried to seek them out, but there were none in the area. When he hatched, I took him. I imagine regular dragons don’t grow nearly this fast.
Nyxxa says: I may be able to enlighten you on that…
Nyxxa quickly gave an explanation of Sinestra and the two missing dragons she was experimenting on. Azgadaan used magic to shape the earth and show Altruis the symbol of the orcish group that had been working with the dragoness.
Altruis Shadowsong says: That definitely seems to be the same group that I was dealing with.
Nyxxa says: The dragon I am looking for was one of the two initially captured by Sinestra.
Altruis Shadowsong says: I see. Well I wish you luck. If this black dragon is a problem, I would be rather careful. From what I’ve heard of them, they aren’t a walk in the park.
Nethrandamus says [draconic]: If you do find others of my kind, I would like to speak with them sometime. I feared that I may have been alone. So if there are others, I would want to know them, especially if one was my… mother?
Nyxxa nodded.
Nyxxa says [draconic]: Of course. I know there are others. If I can find them, I can let them know. I promise.
Nethrandamus says [draconic]: I will be traveling with Altruis. If the two of you are friends, then our paths will cross again, perhaps.
Nyxxa nodded and smiled up at the dragon as she realized this was functionally a child.
Nyxxa says [draconic]: I will do everything I can.
Nyxxa says: Thank you, by the way, Altruis. If you liberated him from Sinestra, you have my thanks.
Altruis Shadowsong says: I’m not the kind of person that wants to sit by and watch other people suffer. So no worries there.
Nyxxa says: I guess Loramus was right about us having stuff in common.
Altruis chuckled.
Altruis Shadowsong says: I guess I’ll need to look forward to getting to know you better, Nyxxa.
Nyxxa says: Before you go…
Nyxxa glanced at both Levia and Azgadaan.
Nyxxa says: I don’t remember a lot of what we stand for, but I know there are a few of us that would be interested in hearing that? If you would.
Altruis Shadowsong says: As far as what the Illidari seeks?
Nyxxa nodded.
Nyxxa says: Probably good for me to get a refresher too, honestly.
Altruis Shadowsong says: That goes without saying. But saying it sometimes helps. We seek the liberation of every world across the Great Dark from the influence of the Burning Legion. Not just Azeroth. We want to cut them off at the source, and the Burning Crusade before it wipes out all life across the cosmos. And we’re willing to do whatever it takes to get to that point. Our scars and sacrifices are just the building blocks for something greater. Judging from the gusto with which you cut down your countrymen…
He glanced at Azgadaan.
Altruis Shadowsong says: I have a feeling that’s something you can perchance sympathize with. Someone doesn’t get to this point without losing a lot, and sacrificing a lot. I respect that.
Azgadaan nodded.
Azgadaan says: Krona ki cristorr. Remember these words. If you meet up with the Ashtongue, you may hear that a lot. I imagine they may sympathize with the Illidari, considering it means the Legion will fall.
Altruis Shadowsong says: I shouldn’t have any issues communicating with them, at least. I appreciate the tip.
Altruis looked back to Nyxxa.
Altruis Shadowsong says: When you do finally bring him to meet the Slayer, I’m sure you already planned on it, but I would bring them too.
Nyxxa nodded.
Nyxxa says: As long as they’d want to come.
Azgadaan says: Sounds fun.
Altruis Shadowsong says: I thank all of you again for the assist. I wouldn’t have been able to wipe all of them out, even if I could have escaped. I’m sure our paths will cross again, but if they don’t, die well.
Nyxxa says: Seeing we might have accidentally led them to, consider us even! Good to see you again, and hopefully I’ll be able to remember you this time.
Altruis Shadowsong says: I hope so.
Altruis put a hand on the dragon’s flank and asked if he was ready to head out. The dragon nodded. Azgadaan asked if Altruis wanted the extra sending stone he had, and Altruis agreed that might be useful. He held his hand out and Azgadaan dropped the stone into it and explained it was connected to anyone in the group.
Altruis Shadowsong says: Much obliged, Azgadaan!
He stroked the side of the nether drake’s neck and the two of them took off to the skies and headed toward the southwest.
Nyxxa says: Well! That was interesting!
Azgadaan says: And informative.
Levia Blackflight says: He was a lot nicer than the other one, not gonna lie.
Azgadaan says: If I had to pick one of them, I’d pick him. He seems a bit more open rather than brooding.
Nyxxa says: Some people just work better by themselves.
Nyxxa shrugged.
Azgadaan says: True, but wouldn’t want to cut ourselves on that much edge.
Nyxxa says: Be nice! But, honestly, if there’s time left in the day we should quit this place.
Azgadaan moved over to the lake and shifted some of the dirt under the the stones of the inert infernals with magic to sink them a bit further beneath the water. Lantresor was fairly quiet during the entire exchange, as was Azuka. They were just taking in everything.
Sadras seemed to be in pretty good spirits and enjoyed hearing things from Altruis.
Sadras says: I guess we should keep going though. I’m glad we’ll be able to keep in contact.
Nyxxa says: Yeah. Especially if these forge camps are in the same area…
Sadras says: Luckily, I don’t think it’s that far. But still. Any information we can get from them we can hopefully pass on to some of our... other friends.
She was subtly indicating Khadgar.
Nyxxa says: Ah. I should have told him about the thing with Loramus, but…
Azgadaan says: You still can.
Nyxxa says: Oh. Yeah!
Nyxxa did use her stone to send Altruis the news that Loramus was trailing around with a small squad of new recruits and there was just a chuckle on the other end as Altruis mused that he was sure Loramus was very happy about that, but it was a good thing as they needed more numbers.
While Arthak was smoking, Rexxar eventually came over and sat down on a stone nearby.
Rexxar says: What are those things?
Arthak Saurfang says: Tobacco.
Rexxar says: Why do you burn them and breathe them in? I don’t exactly think that herb gives you any sort of… edge, or anything. And they have no medicinal purposes.
Arthak Saurfang says: Stimulating. It helps me think. Helps me relax. Pass the time.
Rexxar says: It smells terrible.
Arthak Saurfang says: My mate concurs.
Rexxar chuffed.
Rexxar says: Seems you and your friends are deeper in this than I realized.
Arthak Saurfang says: I warned you.
Rexxar says: I take the words of men at face value. They’re prone to lies and exaggerations.
Rexxar muses on that thought for a while. As they saw the nether drake take off, Rexxar commented that the others seemed to finally be finished with their chat.
Arthak Saurfang says: Seems like. Time to get going. I guess.
Rexxar says: I believe that my friends have finished covering our tracks.
Between the dread raven, the wolves, and the giant boar, the animals had seemingly disposed of the greater part of the bodies. They return to the group and Rexxar asked if they enjoyed their chat, and Nyxxa nodded, beaming.
They decided to make themselves scarce and continue traveling for another three hours to make their way toward Garadar.
With Rexxar’s assistance, Nyxxa was able to navigate fairly well as Azgadaan drove the crew through the rolling hills and plains. Before too long, they heard the sound of birds cawing at each other. They came to an inlet and they found trails that indicated the passage of wild creatures. As they rounded a cliff edge, they saw large nests with creatures that were fighting over a piece of meat. They had large wings, but also had long legs and resembled flightless birds. Their beaks had large, bony protrusions that looked like curved blades. The two that were fighting got the others in the area rustled up, and they were likely two large male birds that were both trying to impress a female.
The two males broke off from each other when the piece of meat ripped, and they both slammed their beaks into the rock with a territorial display.
Azgadaan tried to navigate the vehicle quietly around the cliffs and nests, but a stone rolled off and plunked off the roof of the vehicle. They heard louder squawking and screeching and the birds were all flaring out their wings. Some of the birds hopped down and began to surround the vehicle and slam their beaks into the ground. One landed on top and also crashed its beak off the vehicle’s roof.
Azgadaan cast a flight spell on himself, which also washed through the vehicle. The vehicle took off, and there was some scraping from on top as the bird slid down onto the windshield. Azgadaan dipped down to drop the bird off, and Sadras used her magic to convince the creature to drop off while it had the chance. A few more of the birds pecked at the vehicle, but Azgadaan was able to take off and left the birds behind.
After a few minutes of flying, they landed again and continued on their way, but there was a heavy feeling in the air. Sadras utilized [Druidcraft] and she warned the group that it seemed they were going to be getting some heavy winds soon. They decided to bunk down and wait out the storm, and they were able to find a safe nook. Before long, the winds started to howl viciously. In the distance, they could see localized twisters in the area.
They set up watches for the rest period, and the sound of the moaning winds only intensified. The winds continued for many hours and into the next day.
While they were sitting, Azgadaan asked Arthak if he was willing to talk about what he told them a few days prior. Arthak confirmed he was.
Azgadaan says: Okay. Well, to start off, I’m sorry I’ve been treating you like I have… but to be honest, my trust was shaken. To name one, the falling out with Kaylaan and the steps you took afterwards. While some of the harsh decisions make logical sense, they are tough moral ones I don’t really agree with. You’re still my friend, and I want to trust you, but it’s… difficult times. I want to help move us along. Remnii asked me once where I wanted to be in a thousand years… more reasonably, I think I want to focus on where I want to be in fifty years, and I hope all of this is behind us by then, but the Legion’s been around for a while. I hope one day we can just relax and enjoy our time together. And the thing with Remnii’s sending stone… I don’t think you should have given it to him. I know she confirmed it was a good thing you did, or at least that she told you, but I hope she was able to get more done before she passed. In regards to Kaylaan, I did talk to him, and he said he didn’t want to talk to you given you did hurt him. I want to avoid people getting hurt again. That’s all I can think of, I’m sorry.
Arthak Saurfang says: Okay. I guess, um… that all makes sense. Ultimately, Azgadaan, I don’t need you to trust me, and it makes sense that you don’t. I’m fine with not being trusted. It’s a reasonable position, like it or not. All I wanted… if you disagree with my choices. Maybe there were other ways. Maybe there were better ways. I don’t know, but for everything that’s happened, we’re past the point of… we can’t change the past. Probably.
Their minds both wander to Broxigar, who was apparently a time traveling orc.
Arthak Saurfang says: I just wanted recognition that the things I’ve done have achieved things and gotten us places. I’m not good in the moral sense, but I’m effective, and that’s all I want recognized. That’s all I expect. No one has to like me, or agree with me, or follow me if they don’t want to. I’ve gotten us somewhere. Even if I had to hurt many to do so, and that’s all I wanted. And it seems like I was heard, so thank you.
Azgadaan says: I’m… happy to listen. If we can do something without hurting people though, I’d prefer to take that route. You are undoubtedly effective, but if we hurt too many people, we won’t have many allies at the end.
Arthak Saurfang says: It’s not my first choice. These aren’t decisions I leap to because they are my first option or my go-to strategy. Ultimately, allies… if I don’t get where I’m going, I’m not sure how allies are going to help us or matter. But I can always be wrong. To be honest, Azgadaan, you expect the world to be better than it is. Which is to your credit, but not to your advantage.
Azgadaan says: Oh, I don’t expect the world to be better, I want the world to be better. That’s why I.. hope for better. I’ll help you do your thing, but I’ll also be looking for ways that can help others too.
Nyxxa also mentioned that she wanted to follow up with Arthak, and he agreed to just get it all out of the way.
Nyxxa says: First off, thank you for telling me that, I needed to hear that, and I’m sorry I hurt you. I suppose first off I should clarify that, with the sending stone thing, when I said I wish you would have told me, I realized what I actually meant was… well, it’s hard to build a relationship where the rule of thumb is we need to lie to each other. So sometimes I don’t say things I should, and then when things comes up, it’s a lot of the process at the moment and I don’t have the best reaction, so I’m sorry about that. But thinking about what you said, I’m going to be entirely blunt with this, I work with what I’ve given. And I appreciate the work you’ve done, it gives me a lot of opportunities to do things and we’ve been able to accomplish a lot, but the only reason we’ve needed that in the first place is because it seems it’s integral to your plans. Granted, I don’t know what all of those are, but I know I want to help. I guess I never really… asked you how you wanted to be helped? I’ve just been doing a lot based on assumptions, and half the time when I do it’s stuff I can’t tell you anyway… so. I’m sorry that it’s late, but how do you need me to help you, Arthak?
Arthak Saurfang says: Frankly… unless you want to start putting yourself in the good graces of high ranking members of the Legion and doing the same thing I’m doing, there’s not much you can that you aren’t already doing.
Nyxxa says: I can also give you more support than I have been. I don’t know how you do it. You saw how I dealt with Caria.
Arthak Saurfang says: I did. What I was saying, I wasn’t helping for help. It’s not fair to ask for help on it, and it’s not work anyone can do. With my luck, I’m good at it.
Nyxxa says: Still. It’s hard. I know it’s hard. And I want to be able to help you… what you did back there in that talk was what I need from you every so often. I need you to tell me those those things. I can’t shoulder your burdens, and it’s probably more dangerous for me to involve myself than otherwise, but I’m hear to listen, and I know other people are too. In the places where we can be honest with each other, I want to be.
Arthak Saurfang says: Okay. I’ll say this then. For my plan to work, these hard things need to be done, and you’re right. But your world needs me to succeed just as much as my people do. That’s what I mean when I say what I do matters and it’s effective and it’s not pretty or nice. It’s not something that I can feel proud of, but it works. I don’t need help or forgiveness or acceptance. You don’t need to agree or condone it. Good intentions don’t justify what I do. Necessity isn’t justification. It just needs done.
Nyxxa says: I think you have a better grasp on that than I do, to be honest. As I’m figuring out stuff… I guess I’m starting to reach the point where I trust your judgment on this more than mine. I don’t know. I’m just an opportunist and a soldier that does what I’m told. One of those things that I probably should have told you that I wasn’t sure of was that, in all my work, and in all the people I work with, I was told to protect you. And to make sure what you are working toward happens.
Arthak Saurfang says: Why?
Nyxxa says: I don’t know. A shadow is only told what they need to be. Even if that wasn’t the case, I’m here because I want to be. I trust you when you say the work you are doing is something our world needs, even when seeing it firsthand is not easy to stomach. But the truth isn’t always easy to swallow, so…
Nyxxa shrugged.
Arthak Saurfang says: No it isn’t.
Nyxxa says: What I don’t believe is that you aren’t a leader to us. You’re the one with the plan. That keeps us moving. You’re chasing the opportunities, as hard as they are.
Arthak Saurfang says: I appreciate it. That’s what I wanted.
Nyxxa smiled.
Nyxxa says: I’m glad. This last thing I’m going to say, I just ask that you don’t know how I know this, because you’ll regret it if you do. But if there is something I need to do to get you out of a specific predicament that you wouldn’t like… is it okay if I do?
Arthak Saurfang says: Is it necessary?
Nyxxa says: Absolutely.
Arthak Saurfang says: Then my comfort isn’t an issue.
Nyxxas says: In the future I might ask you to meet with someone, but I think it will be worthwhile.
Arthak Saurfang says: Okay. Whatever it is, I’ll adapt. Your mission, you mentioned you were told that Broxigar went back in time? Does that have any connection to this mission?
Nyxxa says: It might have at first. I don't know if it still does. But the mission hasn’t changed.
Arthak Saurfang says: Okay. Fair enough.
Nyxxa thanks Arthak again as their conversation falls into comfortable silence.
Outland Day 17
The next day, the group wakes and waits through the windstorm. With time, it slows, and they start to head out. Azgadaan had sent Kroll to inform them they were on their way, and he informs them they would find him on the edge of Skysong.
They can see the crystalline water as it pours sin from the mountains to the north. In the distance, on a large islet in the middle of the lake, there are a number of stones jutting upward which Arthak is able to identify as the Throne of the Elements. There are clefthooves drinking from the edge of the lake, and there are beautiful creatures swimming through the waters.
The better part of a mile or two away, there is a small hovel with an orcish tent, which likely belongs to Kroll. As they approach, they also notice a delta at the edge of where the lake transitions into a tributary. There are beautiful, arching stones that spiral up in an unnatural manner and form a platform that has been broken into shards. It almost looks like a ribcage that roils upward, and there are trees growing amidst them.
They wait for a moment as they approach, and there’s no movement, but as they climb out of the vehicle, the flap of the tent moves, and they see a familiar, hunched, mag’har orc emerge. He is rubbing his eyes with his other hand as he yawns.
Kroll Gravenight says: Well, I heard some form of commotion out here…
He watches the group emerge, and he smiles.
Kroll Gravenight says: Ah!
Nyxxa immediately runs for Kroll and hugs him.
Kroll Gravenight says: Oh! Oof! Hello to you too!
Nyxxa says: Good to see you hale and healthy!
Kroll Gravenight says: Yeah, miraculous recovery from death, you know how it is.
Nyxxa says: Yup! Same!
Nyxxa disentangles herself and Kroll looks to the rest.
Kroll Gravenight says: Arthak, Azgadaan, good to see you again.
Arthak Saurfang says: Elder.
Azgadaan says: You too! Certainly healthier than the last dead man, I’ve seen.
Kroll Gravenight says: That’s good! Sadras, you look wonderful.
He approaches Sadras and pulls her into a hug.
Kroll Gravenight says: My, is that you Azuka? You’ve got bigger!
Azuka Stormbreaker says: Greetings, elder.
Kroll tussles her hair.
Kroll Gravenight says: You’re taller than me now, which isn’t a feat, but all the same.
He greets Lantresor as well, and then looks to Levia, Halno, and Rexxar.
Kroll Gravenight says: Don’t believe we’ve met. My name is Kroll. I’m helping keep the peace here, but, I trust if you were brought along, they’re worth letting in on the little secret, ey?
Nyxxa nods.
Rexxar says: Rexxar. Nice to meet you.
Kroll Gravenight says: Feeling is mutual. I think I’ve heard your name. You’re well known among certain circles.
Rexxar rolls his eyes.
Levia Blackflight says: Levia. Nice to meet ya.
Kroll Gravenight says: Likewise. Quite a striking fashion sense!
Levia Blackflight says: Thank you?
Kroll Gravenight says: And who might you be?
He looks to Halno, who charges him and gives him a hug.
Kroll Gravenight says: Uhm. Good to see you too… stranger?
Halno says: What? You were much smaller last time I saw you, but you don’t remember your cousin anymore?
Kroll Gravenight says: Um… I can’t say I do recognize you… I…
Halno says: Ugh. You wound me, Kroll. You wound me. You can’t even remember your own cousin.
Kroll Gravenight says: I… am a bit old, but I did have a few cousins…
Kroll mentally goes through people.
Kroll Gravenight says: Wait. That tone… it couldn’t be Halno?
Halno says: In the flesh! Not mine, but!
Kroll Gravenight says: What the hell happened to you?
Halno says: I died.
Kroll Gravenight says: I guess you did. It looks like you got better in some capacity.
Halno says: Better is a stretch. Worse is more accurate.
Kroll Gravenight says: Well, you’re walking around, and you’re acquainted with my friends… guess we have a lot to catch up on now that you’re walking around like that… but you were always into some strange magics.
Halno says: When the elements don’t talk, you make due with what you got.
Kroll Gravenight says: I guess so. But, they’ve been more talkative than expected. As of late, at least.
He gives Halno a wink and looks back to the group.
Kroll Gravenight says: But yes, looks like you ran into a relative of mine. I don’t remember exactly how we’re related, but we just simplified it to cousins as it’s too complicated otherwise. But I haven’t seen him since before I came down with the pox, and he went chasing whatever… you were looking into. I was angry back then, so forgive me for not remembering everything.
Halno says: It’s fine!
Kroll Gravenight says: I assume you didn’t come here just to take in the sights of Skysong Lake, beautiful as it is. The fish are delicious, by the way. The furies keep it well. But I secured a way up, which does not require riding an angry rylak or anything of the sort. Let me pack up real quick!
He whispers something under his breath, and translucent spirits start to waft around and fold up his belongings and pack them away. Halno taps Nyxxa’s shoulder.
Halno says: See? Cousins!
Nyxxa says: Ohhhhh.
Kroll Gravenight says: Come with me. We need to get closer to the Stones of Prophecy, but it should take us the rest of the way.
Azgadaan says: So, Kroll, my vehicle… should I leave it?
Kroll Gravenight says: It should be good there, it should be okay, it’s far enough away…
Azgadaan says: Ah, I’d rather not give them a hint. If people don’t mind helping carrying?
Kroll Gravenight says: I would, but my back isn’t what it used to be!
The rest of the group start to get the things out of the vehicle and pack them in the portable hole and other bags. He then dismisses the vehicle.
Kroll Gravenight says: Ah! That works!
Kroll then leads them to the delta, and he taps his staff on the edge of the water. It starts to freeze just on the top of the river, letting the river continue to flow beneath.
Kroll Gravenight says: Come now. Be careful, it’s a bit slippery, but if I can cross it, you’ll be just fine.
On closer examination, the group notes the land is broken in some places. Water has filled micro channels within the delta.
Kroll Gravenight says: Alright, this should be able to take us to where we need to go. Come now, everyone. Don’t stand too close, but not too far, just huddle around. Be ready! This won’t hurt, but don’t panic, whatever you do.
Kroll takes his staff and kneels on the ground. He starts to speak in a language the rest of the group doesn’t recognize. The earth starts to tremble, and the dirt starts to move aside. Slowly but surely, a seven-foot-diameter disc of stone emerges, and pillars rise from beneath the group and lift them up. They go up, and up, and up as the ground beneath them disappears. After about 120-150 feet in the air, it begins to slow, and then the pillars stop.
There is nothing around them.
Kroll grins and holds a hand out. He speaks a phrase in draenic, and there’s a moment where the air 100-200 feet above them starts to shift as the clouds gather, and the air shimmers. Where there was nothing, an earth mote appears in the sky. Water is pouring from a precipice, but somehow even where it hits the lake down below had been hidden. As the group looks, they see a rough-hewn staircase that leads to nowhere, and the pillars beneath them rumble, and recede, leaving only the discs they are standing on. The discs meet each other and fuse, that then moves to the edge of the staircase.
Kroll Gravenight says: Welcome to Garadar, everyone.
The platform connects to the staircase, and as the last person steps onto the stairs, the stone melts away and fuses into the earth mote they are standing upon.
Sadras says: This is incredible! How did... How did the earth do this? How does it stay in the air? This is the largest mote we’ve seen.
Kroll gets a melancholic look.
Kroll Gravenight says: Through a lot of prayer, and a lot of sacrifice.
Azgadaan says: Was this always here? Or was it recent?
Kroll gestures for the group to start following him.
Kroll Gravenight says: When we had to move Garadar years ago, we relocated to the Stones of Prophecy, but when the earth trembled, it was unstable. The land shook, and had we not acted quickly, we would have been buried and drowned. The delta would have sunk into Skysong Lake. All of our lives would have been lost. It was all we could do to focus our energies and beseech the furies of earth and air to give us sanctuary. And… they granted it to us. Though it did not come without cost.
As the group climbs the spiraling staircase, they can see a figure standing near the top of the stairs. They are an orc, but unmoving. As they get closer, they can tell they are stone. It may have been a statue, but it was far too detailed for that. The man stands with his hands aloft as if he’s casting a spell, and there is no suffering or pain on his face, but instead there is pride and acceptance. As they look beyond, every hundred or so feet, there are other similar figures.
Kroll places a hand on the shoulder of the stone figure.
Kroll Gravenight says: It took everything they had, but… we lost almost two dozen. Their energies spent to ensure the rest of us survived.
Azgadaan says: So they’re not just petrified? They’re gone?
Kroll doesn’t answer, but there is a subtle nod of a head.
Kroll Gravenight says: The petrification was a side effect. The village elder was one of them. Great Mother Gey’ah. Go’el’s grandmother. And as you already know, so too was one of her most talented apprentices.
He looks over, to figures a few hundred feet away. One has the distinctive silhouette of a Frostwolf, and another figure leaning against its side.
The rough paths lead toward the center of town where they can see an abundance of huts. They are humble, but sizeable enough to easily house over 100 people, or even 200 to 300. There are orcs going about their everyday business. All of them are mag’har.
Kroll Gravenight says: Don’t worry, I informed them there would be some… unusual guests. No one will meet you with slings and arrows.
Halno says: That’s boring.
Nyxxa says: Or a nice change of pace!
Hovering above a central brazier is a familiar sight: it’s a narrow crystal, one that is a bright viridian green. It may be one of the ata’mal crystals, potentially Leafshadow.
Kroll looks to Sadras.
Kroll Gravenight says: I imagine you want to see your folks and your brother.
Sadras says: Very much so! And I would like to meet Go’el’s family as well.
Kroll Gravenight says: Let us head into town then.
Arthak Saurfang says: Um. I’ll… catch up.
Arthak is looking at the figure sitting next to the statue in the distance. The rest of the group opts to follow after Kroll. Several of the mag’har greet Kroll eagerly as they note their arrival. Sadras is looking around as the group enters the small town, and then she stops and lights up. She starts to run, Summerpaw loping after her. Another greenskinned orc had emerged from a larger tent--tall and imperious looking, though with more grey in her hair than before. It’s Lokra, Sadras’s mother.
Sadras throws her arms around her mother, who has a shocked and surprised expression.
Lokra says: Sadras! I didn’t know you’d be here.
Sadras says: I couldn’t let everything that happened to you happen alone, mother!
Lokra and Sadras push their foreheads together. After a moment, they break off and Summerpaw noses her way in as well.
Lokra says: It’s good to see you too, Summerpaw.
There is a degree of sadness to her.
Sadras says: How is father, how is brother? Where is Asha?
Lokra’s eyes close.
Lokra says: She did not survive… your father and brother are in one piece… but Wintermaw was the only one of the direwolves that survived. Snowsong survived but was wounded… but Asha…
Sadras looks beside herself.
Sadras says: I’m sorry, mother.
Lokra says: It wasn’t your fault, dear.
There is some commotion from the tent behind them.
Concerned Voice says: I really don’t think we should be up right now.
Boisterous Voice says: Oh come now, that’s my daughter’s voice! You aren’t going to stop me from seeing her. Sadras? Hang on, I’m coming!
Another orc emerges. It’s Sadras’s father, Karg Bloodfury, but he is more maimed than he was before. Both his right arm and leg are missing, and the brown hair and sideburns seem to be only on the left side of his face--there is a lot of scarring on the right side of his face, seemingly from burns.
Karg looks up to Sadras, and pushes himself up.
Karg Bloodfury says: Give me that stick, dammit!
Another greenskin orc, Palkar, who had left with Go’el emerges with a crutch-like walking stick. Karg grabs it, and then moves forward to embrace Sadras.
Sadras says: Father! What happened?
Karg Bloodfury says: Got into a bit of a scrap with some lava! You should have seen the other guy! Heh… it’s good to see you, Sadras. You’re as beautiful as I remember.
Sadras says: Oh father.
She embraces him tightly.
Karg Bloodfury says: Where, uh? Where the hell is that mate of yours? He’s treating you right?
Sadras says: He went to see Go’el.
Karg Bloodfury says: Oh… I see. That’s good. That’s good. Go’el could use some… companionship right now. He’d love to see you again too, Sadras.
Karg looks quite concerned.
Sadras says: I’m sure, but I believe we have some things to catch up on. Where is brother? Is he alright?
Karg Bloodfury says: He’s fine. I never know where he’s at. He’s off somewhere.
Sorak Thunderforged says: You still have one eye left, father. Your ears still work too. I’m surprised you didn’t hear me coming.
Sorak seems no worse for wear, and he moves forward and lightly punches Sadras in the shoulder.
Sorak Thunderforged says: Good to see you, sister.
Sadras says: You too, Sorak.
She returns the punch harder than he anticipated. Sorak rubs his arm.
Sorak Thunderforged says: Oh. You got stronger…
Sadras says: And you got more annoying! How could you let this happen to father!
Sorak Thunderforged says: It wasn’t my fault! I pulled him out!
Lokra says: Children, please! I know you missed each other, but I didn’t miss your bickering. Can you stop until after the reunion?
Lokra looks to the rest of the group and invites them to join them for a dinner that was being prepared.
Nyxxa says: Thank you for your hospitality!
Nyxxa bows.
Lokra says: Oh, no need for that.
Azgadaan says: Ah, Karg, good to see you again! I have something for you.
Karg Bloodfury says: Oh? Well do tell!
Azgadaan pulls a bag out and jingles it.
Karg Bloodfury says: What the hell is that?
Azgadaan says: If I remember correctly, you almost hit me in that contest. If I hadn’t used magic, you would have.
Karg Bloodfury says: Oh! Hah! I almost forgot about that! Let me get used to these and I might almost hit you again!
Azgadaan says: You know, with some time, we might be able to get you some prosthetics…
Karg Bloodfury says: Oh. Well, thank you! We tried regrowing them, but… well, nothing for it! I want to show this world I’m stronger than it! But thank you for that, honestly, but we’ll discuss it later!
Palkar says: Here, I’ll take that. You shouldn’t be lifting this much.
Palkar takes the bag.
Karg Bloodfury says: Oh, I’m fine!
Kroll informs the group that he has some lodgings prepared for them as well, and Nyxxa thanks him.
Sadras looks to her mother.
Sadras says: Um… if you don’t mind me asking… I know that Go’el’s… his children, Durak and Geya’rah?
Lokra says: I couldn’t say for certain. Geya’rah is either with Dornaa, or with her great-grandmother.
Azgadaan says: Wait, Dornaa?
Lokra says: Yes. She arrived some time after the world shook. She and the krokul with her. They brought that.
She gestures to the crystal.
Lokra says: Which has helped us hide ourselves in the meantime, more than we could have hoped. The world got smaller, and yet so much bigger..
Azgadaan says: Yeah. Hm.
Lokra says: They are around somewhere. Durak, I imagine, is moping or brooding or both.
Sorak Thunderforged says: Both this time. We were practicing on the far side of the earth mote. I imagine he returned home for the time being.
Lokra nods.
Lokra says: I’m sure they’ll love you, Sadras, don’t worry.
Sadras says: Once we’re all settled, I’ll introduce myself. Azuka, you should come with me. They have to be around the same age as you, and it wouldn’t be bad for you to meet some friends, right?
Azuka Stormbreaker says: Yeah, I guess.
Summerpaw and Wintermaw have since greeted each other with no small amount of licks and general happiness.
Azgadaan says: Would you mind if I come, Sadras? I’d like to see Dornaa again, and I have some toys I brought from Azeroth that haven’t seen play yet.
Sadras says: That would be great! We can go together once we get things settled.
Meanwhile, Arthak had started to approach the distant figure of Go’el. He looks at each frozen shaman as he passes, and in the process, he sees another statue. It’s one of an older orc woman, and there is a young orc girl leaning up against it, covered in a leather blanket that has fallen off of her a bit. She seems to be sleeping against the statue. She looks to be 12-14, around the same age as Azuka. There is a young frostwolf sprawled out on its side near her.
Arthak doesn’t recognize any sort of family resemblance, but he looks up at the statue of the orc woman, and he sees some similarities between Durotan and Go’el. She was likely the late Great Mother Geyah.
Arthak tries to walk slowly by, and he manages to avoid disturbing the young orc’s rest. The frostwolf had opened an eye and is watching Arthak, but he doesn’t move.
Arthak continues to the other statue, and lo-and-behold, he sees Go’el. He is wearing simple leather trousers, his gear strewn about nearby, and his hair out and unbraided. Snowfang is curled near him. Go’el almost double-takes as Arthak approaches.
Go'el says: Arthak?
Arthak Saurfang says: Hello Go’el.
Go'el says: What… what are you doing here?
Arthak Saurfang says: Finding you.
Go’el exhales, and his shoulders sink.
Go'el says: Well. You found me.
Arthak Saurfang says: Sorry.
Go'el says: I am too.
Go’el glances back to the statue.
Go'el says: I… I would have loved to introduce you.
The statue’s hands are outstretched, and Arthak sees a strong and quite beautiful young orc. Her hair is frozen in a perpetual wild state, fluttering behind her in an unseen wind. There is an imperious determination in her eyes, as well as an understanding and acceptance.
Arthak Saurfang says: What was her name?
Go'el says: Aggralan. She was… the best thing that happened to me.
Arthak Saurfang says: Pleasure to meet you, Aggralan.
Go’el gets up and puts a hand on Arthak’s shoulder.
Go'el says: I’m sorry I failed.
Arthak Saurfang says: How’d you fail?
Go'el says: You were counting on me to find the Doomhammer and bring it back, but when the earth shattered, I… I had to come. I had to make sure they were safe. But it seems that I… I failed her as well.
Arthak Saurfang says: Our world died, Go’el. Failure has nothing to do with that.
Go'el says: I know that, Arthak, but that doesn’t make it feel like it isn’t anything.
Arthak Saurfang says: I understand that. But what are you doing now?
Go’el thinks for a moment, staring off the edge of the mote and across the sprawling plains of Nagrand below.
Go'el says: I don’t know. Mourning. Waiting.
Arthak Saurfang says: Waiting for what?
Go'el says: I don’t know. For a sign, perhaps? For it to hurt less? For my son… to not hate me. For the spirits to grant me guidance. For what I should do, what I can do.
Arthak Saurfang says: I wish I had answers. Or wisdom to offer. I have something that needs done, still.
Go’el takes a deep breath.
Go'el says: I know. But what happens when we leave again? We go out, we find where the Doomhammer resides, if the Doomhammer is even still here. If I’m not strong enough again?
Arthak Saurfang says: I’ll be right there beside you. We do it together.
Go'el says: I don’t know if it’s wise for me to go, Arthak. I don’t know if I was even supposed to be there in the first place.
Arthak Saurfang says: I need you on this, Go’el.
Go'el says: I know that. You put your faith in me once, already, Arthak, and look what it did. I wish I had the wisdom, the answers, the strength. But I’m not sure that I do.
Arthak Saurfang says: No one does. We do what we can with what we get. And we make it work as much as we can.
Go'el says: I’ve always admired you about that, Arthak. You’ve always been able to keep your goal ahead of you, no matter what. No matter how many times you take losses, you keep moving forward. I don’t know if I have that strength… but I… I can at least think on what you said.
Arthak Saurfang says: It’s all I can ask. It’s more than it’s fair to ask.
Go'el says: For what it’s worth, I have a feeling that Aggralan would agree with you.
Go’el reaches out and puts a hand on Arthak’s shoulder again.
Go'el says: But if you’re here, I don’t imagine you came alone. I should head back and greet the others that came… besides, I suppose Snowfang might be getting hungry. Aren’t you, girl?
He musses up Snowfang’s fur, who yawns, stands up, and then shakes.
Arthak Saurfang says: There are some other things you should know, but… they’re not good. It can wait if you want some time.
Go'el says: Bad news is best heard on a full stomach.
Arthak Saurfang says: Okay.
Go’el looks past Arthak’s shoulder.
Go'el says: Hmph. I should make sure Geya doesn’t sleep through supper again too.
Arthak Saurfang says: I wondered if she was yours.
Go’el nods.
Go'el says: She is. I can introduce you, if you’d like.
Arthak Saurfang says: I’d like that. Um… there’s someone with us she may want to meet as well. Who I would like your children to…
Go’el smiles.
Go'el says: The girl who was traveling with you?
Arthak Saurfang says: Yes.
Go'el says: Azuka was the name you gave her?
Arthak Saurfang says: Yes, she’s, my… um… I don’t know if I… she’s the heir to the clan.
There is a warmth that creases Go’el’s eyes.
Go'el says: That’s… I’m glad, Arthak. She seemed to be a bit of a loner, so someone like you is a perfect person to guide her.
Go’el gives him a gentle jab on the shoulder.
Go'el says: We should go. I’m sure Geya would love to meet her.
Go’el guides Arthak over to the sleeping orc, and he kneels down and gentle brushes her hair out of her face.
Go'el says: Geya’rah. Geya’rah.
The young orc’s ear twitches, and she yawns as her eyes flutter open. She has Go’el’s eyes.
Geya'rah says: Oh. Good morning, dad. How are you?
Go'el says: I’m here, and you are going to be late for supper if you don’t wake up.
Geya'rah says: Oh, is it that late? Sorry. You know how I get when I get comfortable. Great-grandmother was telling me a story.
Go'el says: Was she? She had th ebest stories.
Geya'rah says: She does…
She looks at Arthak.
Geya'rah says: You… I don’t think I know you.
Arthak Saurfang says: No. I’m a friend of your father’s. Arthak.
Geya’arah’s eyes sparkle.
Geya'rah says: You’re uncle Arthak? I heard so much about you! Dad’s told me so many stories about how grandmother would tease you, and how… well… mostly good things! I had no idea you were coming! It’s nice to meet you! You know Dornaa, right?
Arthak Saurfang says: Oh, yeah. We traveled together briefly. We didn’t speak much, but I know her, yes.
Geya'rah says: She’s not the way she tells it! She said you and Sorak and everyone else saved her life! She usually can’t stop talking about all of you guys. She thought you were all great. She’d love to see you. She’s here!
Arthak Saurfang says: Oh… she… um…
Geya'rah says: She’s probably with baby Laroki right now though.
Arthak Saurfang says: I’m glad she made it through safely.
Geya'rah says: She did! And I’m glad too, because she’s my best friend! But we should go, I don’t want aunt Lokra to yell at me again.
Arthak Saurfang says: Hrmm. No, you really don’t.
Go’el smirks.
Go'el says: I don’t think any of us want aunt Lokra to yell at us.
He gives a small laugh, and Geya’rah and her wolf get up and gather her stuff to head off to town.
In the meanwhile, Nyxxa is showing Kroll all her woodworking, and she presents a gift a wooden hair stick she made for him.
Kroll Gravenight says: Oh! I love it!
Nyxxa says: I have one for Go’el too!
Sadras and Azgadaan, with Azuka, had gone to find the kids. Sadras stands a bit outside, and shakes the cloth of the tent.
Sadras says: Excuse me, it’s Sadras… I was wondering if Geya’rah was here? I wanted to say hello.
There is some talking back and forth in draenic, and a young draenei comes to the entrance. It’s Dornaa who excitedly pulls back the entrance. She’s grown quite a bit, having hit a growth spurt, and her clothes are orcish in make. She’s not as tall as Sadras, but she got a good deal of height since the last time they saw her.
Dornaa says: Sadras? Is it you!
Sadras says: Wow, Dornaa? You’ve gotten a bit bigger!
Dornaa says: I have!
She throws her arms around Sadras.
Sadras says: It’s good to see you!
Dornaa looks up at Azgadaan.
Dornaa says: I don’t know if we met… why are you wearing so much armor, stranger?
Azgadaan says: Oh, we certainly have. You’ve shot up like, well, an eredar. I thought you were younger, but you definitely hit your growth spurt. It’s me. Azgadaan. Wearing the helmet so I don’t spook too many people.
Another voice calls from behind Dornaa.
Sly Voice says: What he’s trying to say, Dornaa, is that he’s afraid.
The curtain parts again, revealing Phaedra.
Phaedra says: Like an eredar, is she?
Azgadaan says: What, you’re an eredar too, aren’t you? Just because I’m called a man’ari, and you call yourself draenei, you are still an offshoot of an eredar.
Phaedra says: And you have clearly not learned anything from our time apart. I would say I’m happy to see you, but I’m trying to lie less.
Concerned Voice says: What is this noise? The baby is sleeping--
There is the sound of a baby crying.
Concerned Voice says: Oh, not anymore.
A bald krokul emerges.
Kaviir says: Oh, it’s good to see you Sadras, and Azgadaan!
Azgadaan says: Ah, yeah.
Azgadaan takes his helmet off.
Kaviir says: Thela, it’s Azgadaan and--
Thelamis says: And Sadras, I heard you, my love. The tents aren’t sound-proof.
A female krokul emerges with a baby in her arms. She is holding it close to her chest.
Thelamis says: It’s good to see you. Please, Phaedra, I understand how you feel, but please don’t do that again, I need thim to rest…
Phaedra rolls her eyes.
Phaedra says: I understand.
Thelamis says: Welcome to Garadar, Azgadaan.
Phaedra says: I advise you keep the helmet on.
Thelamis shoots daggers at Phaedra with a glance.
Thelamis says: It’s good to see you.
Azgadaan says: You as well, and that adorable little bean there.
Thelamis says: I never thought it would happen, but here he is…
She pulls the baby a bit from her chest so that Azgadaan can look. He had never seen a draenei child before, but he had seen eredar children before. While he had also not seen a krokul baby before, the baby looks more like an eredar child than anything else. There are some feature that might be affected by the krokul lineage, but it definitely does not seem that the baby is a krokul--it looks closer to an unbroken draenei than not.
Azgadaan says: He looks healthy. Such chubby cheeks!
Kaviir says: He got that from his mother!
He affectionately nudges his mate, who does a mock upset.
Thelamis says: Keep that up, and you’ll sleep outside the tent, mister!
Kaviir says: If the two of you are here, that means the elder returned to, which means a feast tonight. You’re looking forward to that, right Dornaa?
Dornaa says: I was! I’ve been living with them and helping with the baby. He’s so cute! But Geya is not here now. She is probably over at her great-grandmother’s statue. She likes speaking to her when she is feeling lost.
Sadras says: Is that so? Maybe we can go meet her.
Dornaa says: Yes! She may sleep through supper if not. I’ll see you later, vakas, vakos, I’m gonna go show them!
Kaviir says: Stay away from the edge!
Dornaa says: I know, I know!
Dornaa grabs Azgadaan and Sadras.
Dornaa says: Come on!
Phaedra says: Is it so wise to take both of them?
Dornaa says: Oh come on, Phaedra, I know you don’t like him, but I do!
Phaedra clams up for a moment.
Phaedra says: Alright. Don’t be late.
Dornaa says: I won’t!
Azgadaan says: Phaedra, next time I’ll use your preferred… wording. Apologies.
Phaedra narrows her eyes.
Phaedra says: Accepted, for now. But I would ask you meditate on why someone might take offense to that. Perhaps if you can understand why, I’ll accept it in full.
Azgadaan says: I will do some thinking… and try meditating once more. Didn’t work out last time.
Phaedra says: Hmph.
Azgadaan says: Hope to see you soon. Glad you’re in one piece.
Phaedra gives a nod, then turns back to the other krokul. They speak back and forth in draenic, seemingly a serious conversation, but details can’t be made out.
They head back through the center of town just as Arthak, Go’el, and Geya’rah are returning.
Dornaa says: Oh! Her vakas already got her! Geya!!!
Dornaa waves eagerly at them, and Sadras goes to give Go’el a hug. He introduces Sadras to his daughter.
Go'el says: Geya, this is Sadras, your kin.
Geya'rah says: I’m glad to meet you, aunt Sadras! I’ve heard so much about you! The stories that uncle Sorak tells are hilarious!
Sadras says: Are they? I would love to hear the things my beloved brother says about me.
Geya'rah says: He said you’re a terrifying warrior!
Sadras says: Oh? Please go into detail. Did he say he flinches whenever I’m in five feet of him?
They immediately go into a bubbling conversation, which Dornaa eagerly enters as well. Food is being brought out, and the scent of a delicious meal starts to waft over them. Another younger orc also emerges--similar in age to the other other young orcs. He has a scowl on his face as he moves toward the gathered group.
Go’el stops and looks.
Go'el says: Durak… hello, I’m glad you came back.
Durak looks to his father and sighs.
Durak says: I’m surprised you’re joining us. I thought you’d be moping next to mother’s statue all night.
Geya'rah says: Brother, don’t be unkind to father! Especially not in front of our guests.
Durak says: Yeah. I knew you were coming. You must be Arthak?
Arthak Saurfang says: Yes.
Durak says: You’re shorter than I imagined.
Arthak Saurfang says: Well. Expectations when they meet reality.
Durak says: Yeah, I know a thing or two about that. But, yeah, feast. Welcome to Garadar. Lets get this… going.
Durak turns.
Durak says: Elder Kroll, is there anything I can do to help?
Kroll Gravenight says: Yeah, sure, Durak! Plenty of food to pass out, and water!
Durak says: Good. I’d like to help out.
Geya'rah says: I want to help out too!
His sister hurries to help as well. Sadras’s eyes meets with the two young orcs, and then with Arthak.
