[Alliance] Chapter Five: Session Eighteen

As the competition started, Vel immediately darted from her team’s point and disappeared as she used [Blink] to cover the distance to one of the ovoos. As she reappeared in a flurry of snow and mist, she held out a hand and started to channel energy into the ovoo, and it lit up with fire and warmth as the connection was made.
Seria shifted into a massive lumbering bear and barreled toward another ovoo, where she also began to channel and connect with it.
Bardam, one of the Champions of the Black Flame, charged out of his team’s starting zone and started to close some of the distance to the other team. Luma quickened a [Dimension Door] and grabbed Uther to carry both of them over to the ovoo that Vel was working on claiming. They then deployed two artillery turrets and readied their gun.
Flintlord Gairan also used [Blink] and disappeared in a cloud of ash before reappearing behind Bardam. He then rushed by his teammate to start closing on the group. Zagarra looked down at the ovoo far to the south and then looked at Gil.
She took off from the starting point and flipped up into the air as sandy wings unfurled from her back and carried her across the open chasm of fiery metal. She landed easily on the other side, her eyes on the ovoo. Temujin and Jakur, the two other Champions of the Black Flame, as well as Acherius of Flame also started to close on the group. Acherius started to chant, and the nearby deactivated ovoos flared up with flame as he used [Summon Construct], which materialized as a flarecore golem on the central island. It started to dash toward the group situated around Vel.
Gil also left the starting area and he called upon his magic to summon an [Illusory Dragon], whose jaws started to crackle with lightning. Gairan was able to push past his fear, but the rest of the yaungol looked on in horror as the dragon appeared. It soared to the front of the approaching yaungol and released a cone of lightning over them.
Uther ran at the flarecore golem and shoved it off the bridge it was crossing. It tumbled down into the chasm below where it crashed down amongst the heated metal.
Urdur the Cauterizer crept out of the starting zone and used [Calm Emotions] on Bardam, Jakur, and Temujin. However, the illusory dragon released another blast of lightning over the same yaungol. He then fired multiple arrow shots into Gairan.
Bardam ran up to the illusory dragon and took a swing at it, though the weapon cleaved through it harmlessly. He then looked at Uther and used [Orb of Annihilation]. It exploded near Uther, who was able to take cover from the majority of the blast.
The artillery turrets marched forward to station themselves behind Uther. They began to open fire on Bardam and the flarecore golem down in the chasm. Jakur used [Orb of Annihilation] as well, directed at Luma, but Luma used [Shield] at the last moment to turn it aside. It exploded as it hit the ground.
Flintlord Gairan reached down and withdrew a small stone which he slammed into the ground. He conjured an eternal kiln, which connected with Gairan and invigorated him as he then charged for Uther. After two blocks, Gairan managed to get a critical strike on Uther, and then sent him sailing into the chasm. He then used [Blink] to close on Luma, but Luma was able to deflect aside.
Vel continued maintaining her channeling on the ovoo as she looked beyond Gairan. She started to chant in quietish, and her eyes and hand alit with icy energy as a massive runic circle materialized beneath the rest of Bardam’s team. Energy exploded upwards and covered the entire area with a huge sheet of glistening ice from the [Freezing Sphere].
Seria finished claiming the ovoo she was channeling into, and then she charged forward and slammed into Bardam with burning, acidic claws.
Uther got to his feet and charged through the burning metal to get to an exit point. He used lay on hands to remedy the wounds the shards of metal had opened.
Archiereus of the Flame used [Dispel Magic] and hurled a orb of fiery magic at the illusory dragon, which dispersed it entirely. Urdur used [Dimension Door] to carry him and Temujin down to the southern section of the arena, and they materialized next to Zagarra. Temujin attempted to strike Zagarra, and with a strike of fury, he was able to slam into her with his flaming blade. She was able to maintain her focus on the ovoo, and Temujin used his burning fury again, but was unable to land another strike.
Zagarra slammed her claw blades into Urdur, which left him stunned. She rounded on Temujin, but was unable to land a hit on him. She used her breath of the dragon ability to swing her claws around and blast them with a whirlwind of lightning.
Three more ovoos activated.
Gil shot twice into Gairan, and one landed true, but the other stuck in his armor.
Bardam and Jakur started to try and claim the ovoos that had just spawned.
Temujin used [Searing Pain] on Zagarra as bright shadow flames washed over her. He then swept his blade into her and she started to burn.
Luma did a feint to bait an attack from Flintlord Gairan. The yaungol swung at her, but as the blade connected, a pulse wave shot from Luma’s hand.
The yaungol was launched off the edge of the chasm and exploded into flame. Luma turned their eyes to Jakur and used their disruptor rifle. The laser blasted into Jakur, which disrupted his concentration. Their turrets shuffled forward and open fired, which slammed into Bardam.
Seria used [Blink] to close on Bardam and with two fearsome blows, Bardam exploded into ash and disappeared.
Uther got up out of the chasm fully and got to Vel’s side, where he prepared himself to swing the moment he got the opportunity. Vel reached out and quickened [Dimension Door]. They disappeared, and as the portal opened, Uther slammed into Jakur, and he disappeared into ash as Vel reached out and started to claim the ovoo.
Acherius focused the entirety of a [Web of Fire] on Vel in an attempt to disrupt her. She was able to resist the spell, and the effect of her ring of fire resistance further buffered her against the fiery magic as she successfully maintained her concentration. Acherius also used an eternal kiln and rushed at Vel, but she was able to effortlessly dance around his strikes.
Flintlord Gairan respawned back in their starting zone.
Vel used [Heart Strike] as she drove her blade into Archiereus and opened a bleeding wound in his side. She drew anima from him, her eyes glimmering magenta as she fed, before she swung around and drove her blade into him again as flames blew back over her. She managed to maintain her focus on the ovoo, and it was successfully claimed.
There were mixed reactions from the crowd as several were cheering while others were baffled at how handily their champions were being bested.
Luma moved toward the other nearby ovoo and started claiming it as their turrets open fired on Archiereus. Seria raced toward him and raked her claws across his side. Archiereus disappeared in a burst of ash. She roared and disappeared as she rematerialized on the island just outside the respawn point of the other team.
Gil started to walk south towards the ovoo that had just activated, and he fired a shot into Temujin and with a massive burst of fire, Temujin and Urdur were knocked prone. Gil used [Zephyr Strike] and fired again, and with a perfect hit, Temujin burst into ash, and Gil finished closing on the ovoo.
Archiereus of Flame respawned, and Gairan started to rush at Seria. He was infused from the eternal kiln, which allowed him to run up to Seria. He released a flurry of blows with his great axe as Temujin respawned in the starting point.
Uther raced forward to backup Seria.
Urder used [Immolation Aura] as flames started to wreathe him. Zagarra dodged under the flames as Urdur backed up, but she was able to clip Urdur with her claws as he retreated. She hit a vital point, and Urdur’s muscles seized up as he was stunned. Zagarra raced after him as the spell he conjured faltered, and she unleashed a flurry of strikes on him between her claws and kicks. He was stunned again.
Jakur respawned in their starting point as Luma finished claiming the ovoo. Luma fired at the various eternal kilns. One of them burst into flames as it was destroyed.
Seria raked into Flintlord Gairan with a series of furious strikes and managed to slash right across his eyes. She roared directly in his face. Gairan spun around and tried to carve into her with his greatsword, and then he stepped away and started to use [Steel Wind Strike]. Seria slashed at him as he stepped away, but then Vel disappeared and countered every strike as she used [Counterspell], leaving the spell completely ineffective as every single one of his attacks was blocked by her own illusory self deflecting them aside.
Temujin ran forward and slammed into the ground after he slashed Seria. It opened up a burning, searing wound in Seria’s side, and then he used [Destructive Wave] over Seria and Uther.
Vel raised her hand over her head and her tattoos crackled with magic as the flaming hot metal in the chasm below turned icy blue and briefly froze over. The ground seemed to split temporarily as a massive, skeletal [Illusory Dragon] frostwyrm heaved itself up and into the sky. It shrieked and released a cone of frigid energy over Temujin and Gairan.
Meanwhile, Gil used [Lightning Arrow] and fired into the stunned Urdur. He shot a second arrow, which split through the yaungol’s skull and sent him over the edge of the bridge where he burst into ash.
Archiereus used [Sunfire] on Seria and Uther. Uther used his channel divinity to burst the damage back at him before he rounded on Gairan. With two fierce strikes, he smashed Gairan down off the side of the bridge. He exploded into burning cinders and ash, and the sound of a loud gong rang out across the arena.
Uther and his companions were the winners, with a final score of 12 to 0. The yaungol champions took a step backwards, and the crowd went absolutely wild with cheers.
Ordos the Burning One stood up and clapped loudly, a wide smile on his burning face. He signed, and his interpreter spoke up.
The demigod reached out, and a massive axe appeared in Ordos’s hand.
Ordos leapt into the air and landed right in the center of the battlefield, where he prepared to fight. The heat of his body wafted over all of them, invigorating them for the fight. He released a blood-curdling, hissing roar.
The sky turned red and orange and the yaungol started to chant as a sphere of magma appeared over Seria. It was following her.
Luma backed up away from Ordos as their turrets open fired. Several of the shots bounced off the massive yaungol demigod’s form, but some managed to pierce his burnt flesh.
Vel’s frostwym turned to Ordos and opened up its jaws to release a blast of frigid air over the demigod. She then attempted to use [Toll the Dead], but he was able to resist the attack. Ordos charged right for Vel and rammed into her with his fiery horns, which sent her sailing backwards.
Uther ran forward and heaved his axe over his head, but Ordos grabbed the axe and shoved it aside. Ordos tried to swing down with his own axe, but Uther was able to completely heft it aside. Seria raced up behind Uther and drove her claws into Ordos’s back.
Ordos buried his axe into Seria’s side and then pushed her backwards with his horns. He then rounded on Uther and tried to stomp down on him, but Uther brought his shield up to protect himself and shoved Ordos aside.
Ordos lifted his hand and started to channel a [Living Bomb] rune onto Seria. Vel used [Counterspell] to rip the spell out of his hand.
Zagarra tried to close and land a hit on Ordos, but she was unable to land a hit because of the effects of the searing pain. Gil started to run up across a bridge to close his way to Ordon. His hand went to the demon soul for a brief moment, and as he pulled it away, lightning coursed through his hand, and he grabbed onto his bow and fired twice as lightning crackled across the shots.
He continued strafing and running as he fired more shots, but the last arrow was caught in Ordos’s hand. Gil then used [Swiftquiver] and fired twice more.
Ordos started to run for Seria, but Seria met the charge and temporarily grew two horns so she could lock horns with him and shove him aside.
Luma continued their barrage of turret fire on Ordos.
However, as the ball of magma fell on Seria, she felt herself burn away, and then she respawned, but she was unable to rejoin the battle.
Ordos looked over to Zagarra and an orange aura surrounded her, which made her vulnerable to fire damage. Zagarra didn’t hesitate as she went all in on Ordos and got him to waver for a moment, but he forced himself through the effects of her stun.
Ordos swung down at Zagarra with his skulltaker greataxe. She grabbed it with her weapons and thew it aside, but it was clearly wearing her down.
She spotted a weak point, and directed Uther’s attention to it as he used [Blessing of Might]. Trusting Vel's judgement call implicitly and without hesitation, Uther swung back with a windup as holy energy surged through the axe. Ordos buckled substantially as Uther slammed into the ankle just above his hoof. He swung the axe around and slammed into Ordos with another solid smite.
Vel got back to her feet and hurled a [Shadow Bolt] at Ordos, which managed to connect. Ordos continued to focus Zagarra, and she was able to just barely resist the greataxe attack, but with a stomp, Zagarra dispersed in a blast of ash and respawned back with Seria. Ordos then rounded on Uther and backed up, then charged into Uther to plow him into the ovoo. However, Uther buried his axe into the ground and grabbed Ordos’s horns to throw himself out of the path of the attack.
Ordos started to summon a [Rain of Fire]. Vel looked up at it, and she held her hand up as she charged her magic through the frostwyrm, and it released a blast of ice that froze the flaming rocks in the sky before they could impact as she used [Counterspell].
Ordos focused his attention completely on Uther and slammed him into the ground. He brought his axe down on Uther, but Uther blocked the attack with his shield. The shield continued to flare with holy energy as he slammed his hoof down on Uther.
Ordos started to use [Incendiary Cloud] and soot and smoke and ash began to summon to his hands. He barked a rasping laugh, but Luma used [Counterspell] as she pulled out a fire extinguisher and hurled it at Ordos, which exploded and put the fire out.
Gil managed to fire two arrows into Ordos’s back, but Ordos slammed his axe into Uther’s chest. Uther was just barely able to keep up himself up as he rolled out under Ordos’s axe and got to his feet. As the massive yaungol brought his axe back up, he threw his shield aside, and hefted the axe as he released a battle cry and brought the blade straight down on the fiery adversary. The fire blew back over Uther and he staggered back. Ordos also staggered back and dropped down to one knee, thoroughly defeated as the demigod’s axe crumbled into ash.
Uther looked back at Vel, dumbstruck for a moment, and gave her two thumbs up as Ordos pulled Uther’s axe from his chest and dropped it to the ground. Noting the gesture that Uther gave to Vel, he also offered Uther a thumb’s up as the crowd broke out into ballistic cheers. Explosions were thrown down into the edges of the arena, and magic swirled around Ordos, and the entire party, as they were whisked back up to Ordos’s chair.
