Uther Menethil is the heir to the kingdom of Lordaeron and a knight of the Silver Hand.

Appearance

Uther is a very tall young man with muscles that have been honed by years of learning to swing the massive warhammer that is his father's weapon of choice. He inherited Arthas's chiseled, heroic face and jaw, but has his mother's soft, blue eyes. He has prominent scars on his abdomen: one on his chest inflicted by an ice knife from Velameestra when she was possessed by Zalazane, and several claws marks further down inflicted by a void stalker during a brief stint in the Telogrus Rift.

Personality

Uther is known for being kind and heroic to a fault. Frequently among the first to put others before himself, he is selfless and always looking out for the safety of those in need--frequently at the detriment to his own health and safety.

Biography

Prince Uther Menethil was surrounded by legends since before he developed the ability to form memory. His father, King of Lordaeron and Knight of the Silver Hand, his mother, Queen Jaina, who in another life may have been Archmage of the Kirin Tor, Uther the Lightbringer, his namesake and Grandmaster of the Silver hand. Archmage Khadgar of the Kirin Tor, King Varian Wrynn of Stormwind, King Kael'thas Sunstrider of Silvermoon, and others. All of these dramatis personae have been immense, if not consistent, parts of his life and have instilled in him a strong desire to become someone worthy of his name.

When he learned to talk, the most common words he spoke were questions, and always listened intently to whatever answers were given. He never knew a moment of boredom, for there was always something new to learn. He watched the soldiers training in the yards, mimicking their movements with a branch or broomstick. He asked his mother to read him books about the Arcane, rather than children's bedtime stories. He asked Uther what the light truly was, and how he could serve it as his father did. He asked his father what a King would do if there was a flood, or if magic suddenly disappeared, or his people rose against him. When he would inevitably reach the end of his current mentor's patience or free time (sometimes both), he would simply seek out another, ready to resume whatever lesson they had been discussing previously.

Much to the pride of his parents he adopted both of their paths as he grew, training to become a paladin of the Silver Hand, as well as studying the arcane arts. He took a particular delight in learning the history of the world, for he saw it as an amalgam of the collective wisdom of those who came before him. He was adamant about being present for any sort of diplomatic meeting, and was at least as adamant about spending time outside the palace walls. It was hard to argue with the boy's logic: "How can I be expected to lead my people if I don't know them?"

Once he was a young man, his excursions out of the palace were frequent, offering to help whatever citizens he happened to come across. He offered his assistance to commoners from all walks of life, helping in bakeries, forges, clothiers, mills, stables, farms, and even taverns. Before long Prince Uther Menethil was no longer the faceless son of the King, a ghost hidden behind palace walls. He was a living breathing entity, known by his people as a man who made an effort to understand them.

Now, a man grown, he eagerly awaits the day of his induction to the Silver Hand. One step closer to his goal of becoming someone worthy of the legends that surrounded him. He doesn't know what new challenges await him beyond, but with his friends by his side, the Light at his back, and the power of the arcane at his fingertips, he couldn't be more excited to meet them head on.

Chapter Three: The Scales Tip

Uther served as one of the royal representatives of Lordaeron that was to be present at the war summit at Last Crossing, along with his father Arthas Menethil and sister Ashwynn Menethil. At Andorhal, he and his father split their entourage so that they could cover more of their kingdom on the way, but not before they both visited the grave of Uther the Lightbringer at Sorrow Hill, where they spoke of memories of him and also requested guidance from the man that, in his death, had become recognized as a saint of the Church of the Holy Light.

At Hearthglen, largely due to the suggest of his cousin Victor Prestor, who had also joined him with part of the Alterac entourage at Andorhal, Uther was able to light the wickerman during the celebration for Hallow's End, as the day also served as his nameday. However, he became lost in his own thoughts despite the excitement of the event until he was tracked down by the priestess Remnii, who was also accompanying his group.

Remnii was able to instill a new hope and determination in the new prince, who had started to dwell on the worries that, given the threat looming in Quel'Thalas, this would be the last wickerman celebration his people would ever have.

Uther continued with his entourage to Stratholme, where he was promptly greeted by a member of the Kul Tiran navy named Dobbs Rivers. The man immediately recognized Uther, and he explained that he was the son of the man who owned the Kul Tiran armor that Uther and his companions had found in the troll catacombs and had decided to return to Kul Tiras. Dobbs expressed his gratitude, as his mother was able to put his father to rest in the proper Kul Tiran way before she passed, and he passed on a small trinket to Uther in thanks. It was later found out that the mariner's charm was magical in nature, and could be used to cast one of a small list of aquatic-themed spells once.

Also at Stratholme, Uther was able to meet with his uncle, Tandred Proudmoore, and aunt, Mishan, who had come leading the Kul Tiran navy. Mishan expressed that she would be traveling to Last Crossing to represent both houses Waycrest and Proudmoore, and she asked Uther if he minded her accompanying him. Uther, of course, did not, and he was also greeted by his young cousin, Elanora Proudmoore, who had stowed away on her parent's flag ship and had summarily been serving as her mother's assistant. Elanora expressed that she also had learned something new, and she showed Uther an innate connection to the Light much like his own, though with a distinctly more aquatic hue.

Upon arriving in Last Crossing, Uther was given the rundown of the situation by Marwyn, and was informed that his father had not yet arrived.

A day or two after their arrival in Last Crossing, the representatives from Stromgarde arrived, and with them was Vittoria Trollbane. She revealed that, originally, she had not intended on coming. Neither her father nor Danath had truly wished her to come, and she herself had also wanted to stay behind to help her kingdom as it was struggling. However, the missive that Uther had sent her (which contained a postscript that had not been present on any of the others Uther had sent) had ultimately changed her mind.

She admitted to Uther that she had a plan to help save Stromgarde--one that she had told neither her father nor Danath--and she confided in Uther a willingness to join the kingdoms of Lordaeron and Stromgarde. While it would be difficult because the two kingdoms shared no borders, she wished for Stromgarde to become a vassal state of Lordaeron once it came time for her to take the throne. Such a plan came with the implication that she wished for their kingdoms to be formerly joined through marriage, though ultimately, she would continue to aid Uther regardless of what his decision on the matter was.

Uther agreed right then and there, and the pair became unofficially engaged. They shared a tent that night, and continued to do so.

He also gleefully greeted Velameestra when she arrived, joining Elissa Cross in an eager embrace of the elven mage, though their reunion was cut short by Victor, who Vel appeared to have a degree of uncomfortable tension with, and she promptly excused herself soon after he made his presence known.

However, there was not much time to really process whatever was going on, as the next morning, Vittoria hastily awakened Uther due to the sound of some commotion, and it was found that Arthas's horse, Radiant, had flown in to Last Crossing without a rider, and had crash landed near the entrance of the town.
