September 25th (Evening)

Uther and Vel enter a dreamscape to speak with Victor after Vel sent her cousin ahead to Wrathion. Vel shaped the dreamscape into a replica of her conjured mansion’s study, and shortly after, Victor appeared. He looked just like he did before, half of his body covered in the draconic scales.

Victor Prestor says: Vel!

He squinted at Uther.

Victor Prestor says: Do I know you?
Uther Menethil says: We’ve met a time or two.

As soon as Uther spoke, it clicked.

Victor Prestor says: Uther? What did you do to your hair?
Uther Menethil says: Can’t very well be running around my hometown looking like everyone remembers me. That doesn’t seem very smart. Even for me!

Victor chuckled.

Victor Prestor says: Fair point. I can’t say it looks terrible, though it is a drastic change from what I’m used to.

Victor gave Uther a hug and then turned to Vel.

Victor Prestor says: Seems you’ve done a bit with your hair as well. Though a fair bit less drastic than my dear cousin’s.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I think I’m a bit less iconic.

Victor smiled.

Victor Prestor says: I’m glad to see the two of you. It’s been a few weeks… is everything alright?
Velameestra Windrunner says: We resolved the situation in Gilneas. With… flying colors, actually. All things considered. They’re in the process of rebuilding.
Uther Menethil says: Yes. Better than expected, which is not something that we’re used to.
Victor Prestor says: Well, full glad am I to hear it. I wager Genn Greymane, if he’s still alive, will be chomping at the bit to take out his anger on my father. So having him or whoever is left of his kingdom would be quite valuable.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Him, Darius Crowley, and the new king, as it would happen.
Victor Prestor says: The new king?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Liam. Genn’s son.
Victor Prestor says: Hm. Never had a chance to meet him, obviously, I was far too young when they closed everything off. I hardly know the names, but I’m glad you were able to succeed.
Uther Menethil says: And you, cousin? How have you been?
Victor Prestor says: Things have been… difficult. But not much has changed. Not yet at least. As the winter grows closer, the stalemate between the Alliance and the Horde has begun to settle in. So too has the realization of the shortage of resources. This Brewfest was hardly much of a celebration, even here in Alterac, and I fear this year’s harvest festival will be less than ideal. But I’m managing.
Velameestra Windrunner says: We… want to get you out. Sooner rather than later.
Victor Prestor says: Get me out? Would not doing that put yourselves at risk?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Theoretically, but you do leave Alterac at points, do you not?
Victor Prestor says: I do, yes. Though typically speaking my presence is often not far from Prestor. At least as long as I’m doing official visits and the like. But I suppose one of my primary objectives as I said is to hunt down Gilveradin. We haven’t heard from him sight nor sound for a few months. Him nor the crew he’s been traveling with. But if you’d be able to find him, you may be able to concoct a situation to draw me away from Alterac. Far away ideally. At which point, if I disappeared they would be searching for me, but well, you’ve been quite adept at hiding yourselves I suppose. I don’t know how we would pull such a thing off, but first things first you would need to find Gil. Without him and the Demon Soul to catch attention I don’t believe I’ll get away from the public eye easily enough.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Would you be able to get down to Stormwind if Gil was sighted down there?
Victor Prestor says: If he was, yes. I’m certain that they would send me. My sister does have a teleportation circle. So it shan't be too difficult to do that.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Does anyone normally accompany you?
Victor Prestor says: Yes. I would be alongside a group of other black dragonflight warriors. Dragons, dragon spawn, perhaps even a drakonid or two. If you were prepared for an ambush I believe that you could likely take them. It’s a group small enough to travel undetected but large enough to contend with Gilveradin, his companions and the dragon that he has been traveling with.
Velameestra Windrunner says: He has companions?
Victor Prestor says: Indeed. Since he returned he had been traveling with a small group of individuals. A goblin, another human, another elf, a large bipedal oxen, and strangely enough an orc. I’m certain there’s a story behind that, but I have yet to discover what that is.

Vel’s eyes narrow at the mention of an orc.

Victor Prestor says: Seeing as they’re traveling with dragons I assume they're allies of the Dragonflights. I can’t say for certain. I don’t recognize any of them.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I doubt I would recognize any of them if I saw them either, but theoretically if that is the case then we can set something up in Stormwind. We could probably plan an ambush as we focus southward.
Victor Prestor says: If you could pull it off, I can make sure it’ll go without a hitch on my end. But, a lot of this is going to rely on you. A lot of ‘this’ is going to rely on you.

He gestures.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I think we can arrange it.
Uther Menethil says: We’ll make it happen, cousin.
Victor Prestor says: Well, I can’t say I’ve ever looked forward to walking into an ambush before, but this year has been full of firsts after all.
Velameestra Windrunner says: And there is no one that would be with you that would need to be left alive, correct?
Victor Prestor says: No.

There is a steel in his demeanor that’s absolute.

Victor Prestor says: None of the people who I’ve ever traveled with on my previous excursions have been anyone I wish to survive this ordeal.
Velameestra Windrunner says: That makes it even easier then.
Victor Prestor says: I do hope that Gilveradin can forgive me. Our altercations have proven quite energetic in the past. They needed to be if I were to keep up appearances.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I’m certain we can give him the full context of what’s been going on. You said you haven’t seen or heard anything about him in months?
Victor Prestor says: No, unfortunately. I don’t even know exactly what he was doing. I do know that after the events that occurred, shortly thereafter there was a disappearance. There was a great dragon’s skull that was displayed in Silvermoon, a trophy of the orcs. Eyewitness testimony says the skull was abducted, and my father seems to believe it was him and possibly the other dragons he now travels with. But I can’t say for certain. But I do know there was neither hide nor hair from him for several months after that. More recently, less than half a month ago, there were a couple of sightings of him by a number of people, and we engaged in a number of altercations with him in that time. But we have not seen anything of him in the last couple of months. We are not sure if he’s gone to ground or if he’s left the continent. I’m not really sure.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I guess something to look into. He’s good at hiding.
Victor Prestor says: That is true. I suppose he was a Farstrider.
Velameestra Windrunner says: And if there are also people helping him they may have other tricks that he doesn’t have.
Victor Prestor says: Indeed. I’m certain the red dragons have no small number of hideaways they have stashed across the continent. He could simply be hiding out in one of them. Or he’s just beginning to learn our tricks. Truthfully I’m not upset. I misliked drawing my steel against him. Especially because it became easier every time.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Well fortunately the next time you’ll need to do it will be a farce at best.
Victor Prestor says: I simply hope he can direct his arrows at the others. But I shan’t fault him if a stray arrow finds its mark.
Velameestra Windrunner says: We’ll watch out for you.
Victor Prestor says: Just be careful, alright? I don’t know what’s going on with all of this. I can’t guarantee the forces that I’ll be bringing with me will be pushovers even with my assistance, and that of Gilveradin and his dragons. Though I’m uncertain if the one is a full dragon or some sort of other creature.
Velameestra Windrunner says: We’ll figure it out, and we’ll be in contact once we find him.
Victor Prestor says: Alright, I’ll look forward to it. And in the meantime I’ll keep an ear our for anything that might be helpful before I mysteriously go missing.
Velameestra Windrunner says: And I have a few tricks to make sure you stay missing. We’ll see you soon.
Victor Prestor says: 'Til then.

His smile falters.

Uther moved forward and gave Victor a crushing hug.

Uther Menethil says: Just a little longer, cousin.

Uther could feel Victor’s claw dig into his back a bit.

Uther Menethil says: I won’t pretend to know what you’ve been through, but I know that it’s taken strength.
Victor Prestor says: Helps that I know I’m not alone anymore.
Uther Menethil says: And even when you thought you were, you weren’t. Soon, cousin.
Victor Prestor says: Soon.

Uther was relinquished from the spell and fell into his slumber once again, while Vel cast the spell again and shifted her mind toward the dreams of Wrathion and Galadin. She found herself stepping through a door that Vel recognized. It was the door that led to the backyard of Vel’s manor in Dalaran. She spied Galadin and Wrathion in his visage form. The tree back there had cut marks all over it, and Galadin was leaning nearby as Wrathion was swaggering by.

Wrathion says: You know, Relhana has taught me a thing or two about knife play.

He threw a dagger into the tree.

Galadin Windrunner says: Yeah, I’m sure you have the skills in the dream world, but I’d be curious to see if you’re half as good when we’re awake. What with wind and stuff blowing all over the place.
Wrathion says: Do you doubt me, Galadin, come now?

He turned, as he had picked up Vel’s arrival.

Wrathion says: Ah! But it seems that we are joined by another! Hello, Velameestra. Galadin gave me a teaser of the good news. I take it you’re here to fill in the gaps?
Velameestra Windrunner says: That’s correct.
Wrathion says: Before we get started, care to give it a go?

Wrathion gestured to the tree and held a knife out to Vel. Vel looked at the knife and rolled her eyes, but she did pluck the weapon up between her fingers and hurled it at the tree. The blade struck right in the middle of the target, and Wrathion grinned.

Wrathion says: I expected nothing less.

Vel chuffed.

Velameestra Windrunner says: It is easier here. Galadin was right about that.
Wrathion says: Then I suppose sometime we will have to have a rematch!

He shot a smile over at Galadin.

Wrathion says: Good to see you well, Vel, and I love what you’ve done with your hair!
Velameestra Windrunner says: Thank you. A new friend did it. I trust Galadin already told you our agent was a drakonid, yes?
Wrathion says: He did! A black drakonid. I’m doing what I can to dig up what information there is about what the good master Creed’s history may have been, but I believe you’re right that his Authority was almost certainly Onyxia.
Velameestra Windrunner says: And by extension Katrana Prestor, if my suspicions on that matter are also correct.
Wrathion says: I believe they are. Now catching her red-handed, or red-clawed, might be a more difficult matter.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It’s something we’ll be looking into. Though we did find… well. I didn’t sever the connection it had in case it would be useful, but we recovered the crystal ball Creed used as a contact point between himself and Onyxia.
Wrathion says: Is that so?
Velameestra Windrunner says: It’s presently sequestered in my demiplane. Removing it from such would attract her attention, as it’s directly connected from what I was able to assess.
Wrathion says: Even so, it could be a valuable tool. We will want to sever the connection but, beforehand, if it is possible, we might be able to use it to, well, find out if there’s a connection anywhere else. Even if this one connects just to a master, it is still connected to that master. While I am no blue dragon… I do believe that your expertise and knowledge of magic may be enough to perhaps… follow the rabbit to discover the rest of its holes. If that one connects to the master, perhaps you can get a glimpse of whatever else connects to that same point. It could be risky… but if we are taking risks anyways, it could be a way for us to ensure she doesn’t have any allies.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I can see what I can do about analyzing the nature of the connection for the time being. It shouldn’t have any risks involved provided I do so within the demiplane.
Wrathion says: Excellent! I think the two of us could certainly make use of that. I have some business to take care of, but I wager my path may eventually lead me to Karazhan. Once I’ve finished drafting up a list of my own, perhaps we may be able to get a head start on it.

Vel smirked.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Confident on finding it on your own, are you?
Wrathion says: Oh no, I’ll almost certainly be asking for guidance. I understand that the Guardian’s ancient tower is well protected against those who are not invited to come in, and so I may have to take a page out of your own book and ask very nicely. But if that’s where all the fun is happening, I’d be remiss to miss out.
Velameestra Windrunner says: One of the places, at least. Speaking of your dealings, I don’t suppose you’ve spoken with my brother again, have you?
Wrathion says: I have, albeit that was some time ago. Why do you ask?
Velameestra Windrunner says: We’re looking for him.
Wrathion says: Are you now? Well, I don’t know where he might be now, but I do know what he *was* doing. Perhaps that may be a trail of breadcrumbs you can follow.
Velameestra Windrunner says: By all means.
Wrathion says: For a time, after your unfortunate deaths, he returned to Northrend to a place called Wyrmrest Temple. He was introduced to a small group of individuals called the Scales of Azeroth. It was a group assigned to him to watch and protect the Demon Soul until it could be destroyed. That is what he seeks. They were doing errands and training for a time, but after he returned to the Eastern Kingdoms, he contacted me. He seeks to find a way to destroy the Demon Soul, you see, the same mission that Korialstrasz was set upon. However, the Prime Consort has been missing in action for a fair bit of time. Gilveradin was seeking out information as to where he may have been. I gave him some suggestions, but I could do little more. I’ve been hiding from the red dragons, you see, so if I knew where he was, he may know where I was. But, if you find Korialstrasz, I wager you’ll find him not far behind.
Velameestra Windrunner says: That makes sense.
Wrathion says: From my understanding, his humanoid guise is Krasus, the former member of the Council of Six?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes.
Wrathion says: Perhaps taking a look at his private vault would be a good first place to look. I imagine most archmages have private vaults secured in the bank in Dalaran. If you can talk your way in, you may find a clue. I sent Gil in the same direction. I don’t know if he ever made it, but if he did, maybe you’ll even find a clue about where he went off to.
Velameestra Windrunner says: That… is certainly a possibility.

The vampyr’s eyes flitted over to Galadin, given they had already made plans to return to Dalaran to return him home and, by extension, reveal herself to her uncle Rhonin.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I’ll look into it and see if I can manage something. Security is… strict. I don’t know if I’ll be able to access it myself, but I’ll explore some options.
Wrathion says: That’s true, you’ll likely either need to be named as a next of kin, get permission from him, or I suppose… if you happened to have a connection to one of the members of the Council of Six, they could, of course, override it should they see the need.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes, I suppose they could.

Wrathion looked at her with a wide grin.

Wrathion says:: But, I will leave that to the two of you.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Thank you for the lead.
Wrathion says: Of course, Velameestra, it’s my pleasure. After all, we do have a common enemy, and I will be required to beg of your assistance sooner rather than later. Once I’ve finished my own work, I will need you and your friends’ expertise. After all, if you’re going to be fighting the likes of Onyxia and Deathwing, it might do for you to get some… practice, so to speak.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Other agents that need weeded?
Wrathion says: Other agents that need to be removed from the board. They will make themselves known. If this culminates in a great battle, the most powerful amongst the black dragons will be present. Especially if the Aspects show their ugly faces. This is simply ensuring that our side of the battlefield is stacked by removing a number of key elements… broodmothers… powerful agents… Doing so may come in handy. I don’t expect us to find all of them, of course. But every one that we eliminate now is one that we won’t have to contend with later.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Indeed. And I do enjoy stacked odds, generally speaking. Which… actually Wrathion, regarding collective expertises, I have something for you. Ciphers are a hobby of mine. I have one you can use for your dealings, if you were looking for an additional layer of security.
Wrathion says: I would be honored to have a cipher concocted by one of the most brilliant and up and coming minds of Azeroth. If you’d like I can even present it to Relhana. I’m sure she’d love to see it.

Vel seized control of the dream back from Galadin and conjured a sheaf of paper detailing the cipher code, which she held out to Wrathion.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Given the nature of the spell it’ll be emblazoned in your memory. Convenient.
Wrathion says: First that book, now a cipher, you’ve been giving me some truly fascinating reading material, my friend.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I’ll be back in touch in the future. Unless you find a way to contact me otherwise, of course, but until we actually meet face to face again there’s not much I can aid with on that front.
Wrathion says: I look forward to hearing about your success soon. And do tell Gilveradin I said hello next time you see him. I was starting to get worried about him, you see.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Hmph. I’m sure he’d love to hear from you. Galadin, if you want to stay, the dream is yours.
Galadin Windrunner says: Really!? I mean, uh, yeah, that sounds fun.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Provided Wrathion, of course, doesn’t have anything else to attend to.
Wrathion says: Besides the back of my eyelids? No I can’t say I do.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I’ll leave you both to it. Just don’t sleep in, Galadin, we have things to do.
Galadin Windrunner says: Yeah. Night Vel!
Velameestra Windrunner says: Good night.

Vel dispersed into mist and faded from the dream.

September 26th

The next morning everyone awoke and they gathered together at the breakfast that Moroes had prepared for them. Galadin had started to engage in a conversation with a plate, as the dishes were magically sentient. Vel sipped at her coffee.

Velameestra Windrunner says: We spoke to Victor last night. We need to find my brother. From there, our intention is to extract Victor as quickly as possible. It will involve an ambush in some capacity. Once we retrieve Gil we’ll be able to sort out the specifics of our plan, provided everyone is on board with it, of course.
Elissa Cross says: So what’s our first move?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Finding Gil. He would be the catalyst that would give Victor an excuse to leave Alterac. Unfortunately, he’s not been seen in several months, though he’s apparently been traveling with a group called the Scales of Azeroth according to Wrathion.
Riff says: That’s a pretty cool name. But I like Death Adders more.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Death Adders is far more intimidating.
Liiraluma says: See?! It still is a thing!

Luma piped up with her mouth still full of egg, though Vel opted to ignore the comment.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Wrathion did provide a good suggestion that if we can find Krasus, we’ll be able to find Gil. Krasus has unfortunately not been seen in some time… but there is the possibility that if we can access his safety deposit box in Dalaran, we may be able to find some clues to where he is.

Vel expressed she would likely be going to Dalaran as she had a personal contact there that could likely allow her to discreetly access the city so she could speak to her uncle.

Luma said that they wanted to go too, as the sooner they could see more of the world, the better. However, Vel was hesitant to bring anyone along, as she didn’t know how her uncle was going to react. Luma said they didn’t need to be around for Vel’s family business, but Vel clarified that there was ultimately a non-zero possibility that she might need to just leave the city depending on her uncle’s reaction.

There was a brief expression of nervous fear on Vel’s face, and Luma waved their crystalline hand and said Vel could do what she needed to do. Galadin said that they could likely take Luma some other time, and Luma acknowledged there would be time, as they knew there was likely a series of layers involved.

At that moment, Medivh teleported beside the table and sat down to eat with a jovial greeting. Vel introduced Medivh to Galadin, who was completely wide-eyed. Medivh said that he could give an autograph if he wanted, and Galadin quickly expressed he had a Hearthstone card he wanted Medivh to sign when he came back.

Uther furrowed his brow and asked if it was possible to contact Vittoria, and Vel said there was a possibility they could likely actually see Vittoria in person as there was a tree not far away from the pond they had scryed before.

Vel opted to scry on Vittoria briefly and she witnessed Vittoria doing some drills with one of the soldiers that she was with before. The situation looked safe enough. After they finished up breakfast, Seria used her staff to create a tree that she could use to transport them to Stromgarde. She visualized the tree on the highlands and put her hand on the bark of the tree, which opened up into a portal they were able to step through.

They were greeted by the rolling hills of the Arathi Highlands. It was the former heart of the empire of Arathor that ruled the majority of the Eastern Kingdoms. It was sunny (unfortunately for Vel), but also windy and slightly chilly. There was a small pond near the settlement they had arrived at, which was where Vittoria had been playing her pipes near before. There was also a hill-like grotto, where the flags of the League of Arathor were flying. There were people milling about, but it seemed like no one saw them.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I… think the best approach may be to reach out to Vittoria directly rather than just… stroll in. She… knows how to be discreet, right? I’m… sure she does.

Vel sighed and cast the [Sending] spell, targeting Vittoria.

Velameestra Windrunner says [sending]: Good morning, Vittoria. I ask that you take my presence discreetly. We are outside your camp, and I am with Uther. We need to speak.
Vittoria Trollbane says [sending]: Am… am I hearing things!? Vel? Is that- no, I could of sworn I heard someone.

It seemed that Vittoria had started to talk to someone else.

Vittoria Trollbane says [sending]: Aye, Vel. You met her briefly back when we first saw her. She was the elf and I-

Vel sighed, and she cast the spell again.

Velameestra Windrunner says [sending]: Vittoria, it is me. I am going by the name Zelda. Please do not repeat my name. There are some things we need to discuss…

There was a pregnant pause as she tried to figure out what to say.

Velameestra Windrunner says [sending]: We are by the pond. We’ll explain.
Vittoria Trollbane says [sending]: I dinnae know if this is some sort of trick but… alright, I’m going to the pond. I’ll be right there.

Vel glanced skyward.

Velameestra Windrunner says: What I wouldn’t give for Remnii to be here to fabricate these sendings.

Before long, two figures started to approach cautiously. They spoke to the watch and gestured for a while. As they grew closer, they could tell one of them was Vittoria. She was still wearing training armor, and she had a horn at her hip, and her shield at her arm. She was speaking to the woman with her. She was relatively close in age, and she was also familiar: she was the leader of the guards that were with Vittoria when they first encountered her in Hillsbrad long ago. Vel could read Vittoria’s lips as she spoke to her companion that they needed to be ready for anything, but to not draw steel.

They passed the group initially, as they didn’t see them.

Vittoria Trollbane says: Alright. I don’t know if who spoke to me in my head was truly my friend, but we’re here.

The two fell into a back-to-back formation.

Vittoria Trollbane says: If this is some kind of trick…

At that moment, Uther walked around the corner, and Vittoria put her full hand on her blade.

Vittoria Trollbane says: Care to explain yourself, stranger?

Uther reached up and rubbed his beard.

Uther Menethil says: That’s right! You wouldn’t have any way of knowing what I look like with a beard, would you?

As Vittoria heard Uther’s voice, her hand faltered.

Vittoria Trollbane says: That… that was the truth. That was really her… UTHER!

She threw her shield aside and ran directly for Uther. The other woman was at the ready still, but Vittoria fully threw her arms around him as she tackled him and met his lips with a kiss that was also wet with tears that started to stream down her face.

Uther Menethil says: I’m… so sorry, love.

Vittoria pulled away.

Vittoria Trollbane says: I don’t care. I don’t care, you’re here! You’re alive. We thought you were dead.
Uther Menethil says: And for the time being, it’s important everyone continues to think that.

Vittoria kissed him a few more times, and everything started to click.

Vittoria Trollbane says: Vel said she was going by another name… your hair… what’s going on?
Uther Menethil says: Well. That’s a very long story. One that I’ll be happy to fill you in with, as long as my presence here for a day or two won’t be problematic.
Vittoria Trollbane says: No! No, it shan’t. A lot has happened… but… nay, ye’d be more than welcome here. I can explain, once we come in. I guess we both have a lot of explainin’ to do, but I’m not ready to let those lips go yet.

They continued to kiss as the rest of the group emerged. The other woman crossed her arms, but smiled. The woman then cleared her throat.

Stromgardian Woman says: Princess, there are some others here waiting to greet you.

Vittoria gave Uther one last kiss and forced herself away. She saw the several unfamiliar faces, and then saw Vel. She started to head over to Vel.

Vittoria Trollbane says: I’m so glad you’re alive as well.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Things got complicated. Good to see you.

Vittoria held out a hand to Vel, which Vel looked at it, but then opened her arms for a hug given Vittoria was someone that ultimately was more of a hugger. Vittoria did, in fact, hug her.

Vittoria Trollbane says: So what were you going by? Zelda you said?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Zelda Morrowsworn.
Vittoria Trollbane says: I don’t think anyone in the refuge would know who you are either way, but I’ll make sure I use it if we need to protect your identities for the time being.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Uther over there is Angus right now.

Vittoria looked back at Uther.

Vittoria Trollbane says: Angus, ey? I’d say that’s fitting!
Uther Menethil says: Aye! Angus the Bastard!

Vittoria loosed a full belly laugh as Uther showed off his attempt at a Stromgardian accent.

Vittoria Trollbane says: Your accent could use some work, but we’ll make sure you’re in top shape before you leave!

She then looked at Elissa.

Vittoria Trollbane says: You look like you’re squirming out of your britches. Do I know you?
Elissa Cross says: It’s Elissa!
Vittoria Trollbane says: You dyed your hair. You look good!

They also hugged before Vittoria looked at the rest of the group, but they were people she did not recognize. She started with Luma, who made their introduction with a handshake. She also shook Seria’s hand, and then she looked at galadin.

Vittoria Trollbane says: I feel like I have seen you though.
Galadin Windrunner says: Did you? I don’t think… wait. Last year. There was that thing at the troll ruins?
Vittoria Trollbane says: Yeah! That’s right! I think that is where I saw you.
Galadin Windrunner says: Galadin. I’m Zelda’s cousin. Me and my brother were there. You may have spied us.
Vittoria Trollbane says: Aye. That makes sense. It’s good to meet you!

They shake hands as well.

Vittoria Trollbane says: Some of you have met captain Nials before. She’s one of our royal guards, and she’s been my lady in waiting and protector for most of my life. She came looking for me when I went missing, and stuck around.
Siobhan Nials says: Pleasure to meet you all. Siobhan Nials, at your service.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Pleasure.

Vittoria suddenly got a look, and a nervous sort of air.

Vittoria Trollbane says: I should bring you back into the refuge. There’s some people you should probably meet. I’ll explain to the others. Explain that you’re friends.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Lead the way.
Vittoria Trollbane says: I understand your identities are something you’re trying to protect. But you may want to tell Tier… she’s the leader. The One-Eyed Gryphon. You can trust her. I’ll make sure.
Velameestra Windrunner says: If that is… your advice.
Vittoria Trollbane says: She’ll do whatever I ask. She has a lot to make up for. She’s my mother.
Velameestra Windrunner says: …ah.

Vel blinked, and Uther’s mouth flapped.

Vittoria Trollbane says: Don’t worry. Up until recently, I never met her either, not since I was a wee lass. She left a long time ago. Dinnae even know anything about her until recently.
Velameestra Windrunner says: …So your mother kidnapped you?
Vittoria Trollbane says: Aye. She did. The situation is complicated. I’ll let her explain it to you.
Velameestra Windrunner says: By all means.

The group headed toward the refuge, and they were surveyed by the guards. Vittoria confirmed they were friends, and the watch warned them not to cause any trouble. They quickly found themselves in a makeshift mercenary war camp turned fortress. There was a large tent at the center of the camp that they headed toward. There were a lot of people looking, especially at the strange alien draenei creature. There were some children, but not many.

They also heard the wailing of a baby from inside. In the old Arathi tongue, someone was talking about taking the child before she blew out their eardrums, but another gruffer woman told them to back off as she needed to get better at consoling the child. As they entered, they saw a mountain of a woman, who was rocking a child back and forth. She had long wild, dark red hair that was slightly darker than Vittoria’s, but similar. Her face was a battlefield of scars and wrinkles. She had an eyepatch over one of her eyes, and she had a sizable scar that was still visible. She stopped as she saw the group, and she was dumbstruck.

One-Eyed Gryphon says: Um. V-vittoria… good mornin’. I’ve been tryin’ to get her to calm down…

Vittoria smiled.

Vittoria Trollbane says: It’s alright.

She took the child, and she immediately calmed down and stopped crying and coo’d gently as Vittoria bounced her. The woman looked over to the group.

One-Eyed Gryphon says: Who the devil are all this?
Vittoria Trollbane says: Can we have the room?

The other people in the room looked to the One-Eyed Gryphon, who told them all to leave, and they quickly dispersed.

Vittoria Trollbane says: Mother. This is… Uther. He’s not as dead as we thought he was. And Uther…

She looked at Uther, then down at the child, and smiled.

Vittoria Trollbane says: This is Skye. Your daughter.
Uther Menethil says: My… you mean… when… and then that… so she… and… and and and… you… and I…
One-Eyed Gryphon says: Aye, lad, that is how babies come about. You know that much at least.

Uther took a step toward Vittoria with his arms out.

Uther Menethil says: M-may I?

Vittoria smiled and nodded.

Vittoria Trollbane says: I never thought she’d get the chance.

She gently passed the child over to Uther, and he saw a wee lass with a shock of red hair that was barely grown out. Her eyes were bright and unmistakably blue.

Vittoria Trollbane says: I found out… shortly after you… after we heard about what happened.

Uther looked from the baby to Vittoria with tears in his eyes.

Uther Menethil says: I’m… I’m so sorry. I should have been here.

Vittoria shook her head.

Vittoria Trollbane says: You were dead. Whatever has kept you away for this long… I’m sure it was a good reason, aye?

Uther took a deep breath.

Uther Menethil says: Yesterday… I would have said yes. And perhaps in another few days, my answer will be the same.

He looked down at the child in his arms.

Uther Menethil says: In this moment… holding her in my arms… everything else seems trivial.

Vittoria wrapped her arms around uther and pressed her forehead against Uther’s.

Vittoria Trollbane says: We have this moment, aye? And the next. And the next. That’s more than I could have asked for.
Uther Menethil says: We do.

Uther felt a small tug on his beard. He looked down, and Skye had firmly grasped it.

Uther Menethil says: Hello Skye.

She smiled up at him, her eyes as blue as the sea. She cooed happily and laughed. He held his finger out, and she grabbed it. Uther looked over at Vittoria.

Uther Menethil says: We did a really good job!
Vittoria Trollbane says: Damn right we did.
Uther Menethil says: By the Light, she’s perfect.

Vittoria looked over to the rest of the group.

Vittoria Trollbane says: You’re welcome to meet her, if you like.

Vel looked on, wide-eyed, and Luma also looked a bit wide-eyed and made eye contact with Vel. Elissa and Seria, however, raced over.

Elissa Cross says: Hello, baby Skye.
Liiraluma says: Good name.
Vittoria Trollbane says: It’s from a myth. In old Arathi legend, Skye is short for the “Isle of Skye”. It’s said to be the domain of a warrior queen named Scathach, and the great warriors wash up on her shores and become greater in death.
Liiraluma says: That’s intense for a baby, but I respect it.
Vittoria Trollbane says: It was a reminder, and a prayer. A hope Uther would be with her in some way.
Elissa Cross says: I think it’s a cute way.

Elissa started to croon at Skye and played peekaboo. Vel started to creep forward slowly, and the child’s eyes immediately went to her and almost seemed to peer into her soul. Vel’s ears slowly flattened against her head, and the baby vaguely grabbed the air in her direction. Slowly, Vel raised her finger so the child could grab it, and the child did, but then immediately released, as her finger was frigid, but she didn’t look away.

There was insatiable curiosity in the child’s eyes. The type of curiosity that was desirable in someone that would love to learn, even beyond that of the natural wonder children had.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I… think she might take more after your mother than you do, Uther.
Vittoria Trollbane says: Well. If that's the case she’s going to be smarter than both of us.
Uther Menethil says: Smarter than her dad won’t be a high bar.

In the meanwhile, the One-Eyed Gryphon was watching Uther like a hawk.

One-Eyed Gryphon says: I never thought I’d have the chance to meet… you, Uther.
Uther Menethil says: I’m terribly sorry that my manners seem to have escaped me–
One-Eyed Gryphon says: Nay! I’m not going to drop your attention from your bairn. And seeing ya with her… means I owe ye an apology. Given you’re back now.
Uther Menethil says: I suppose you’ll have to forgive me for showing up unannounced…
One-Eyed Gryphon says: Better than I did. I hate to draw attention to other matters, but I’m sure by now you know who I am.
Uther Menethil says: Do I call you… mother-in-law?
One-Eyed Gryphon says: Dinnae think I earned that title yet. The name is Maighread Tàillear. One-Eyed Gryphon. Lady. Commander. Whatever you want to call me is fine. I’m sure you’ve heard terrible stories about me. Most of them is true, but the situation is a bit more complex than Galen would have anyone think. But that’s the kind of bastard he is. Before that, what the bloody hell has kept you away from Vittoria for so long?
Uther Menethil says: Well. The short version is that Daval Prestor is not a very nice man. In fact, lets not get ahead of ourselves.
Maighread Tàillear says: If Galen’s willing to lick his boot as much as he is, I imagine he’s a right shite himself.
Uther Menethil says: I believe if Galen knew the truth of Daval Prestor, he may be inclined to find a different pair of boots. But Prestor has eyes on something much larger than the Alliance. Myself and my companions narrowly escaped death at his hands, and by narrowly, I mean we did have to go to Shadowlands… to avoid going to the Shadowlands. I know that doesn't make sense. But turns out there is an entire continent to the west past the Maelstrom. We wound up there, and then spent several months trying to get back.
Maighread Tàillear says: That’s… a good enough of an excuse. Aye.

Vittoria was listening, enraptured.

Vittoria Trollbane says: Aye. I’ll have to ask more about what you got into. If you’re planning on staying… at least for a time.

Uther looked over at Vel.

Uther Menethil says: How long do you think your business in Dalaran will be?

Vel got her faraway look again for a moment.

Velameestra Windrunner says: It… may vary, but you can have the days you need.
Uther Menethil says: Then a few days at least. We can get caught up.
Vittoria Trollbane says: That’s more than I could have hoped for. And if Daval Prestor is your enemy… then maybe I can help.
Maighread Tàillear says: Aye. And I may have a way for you to kick his teeth in, and take away one of his favorite lackeys, if you’re interested in a bit of sedition, that is.

Uther chuckled.

Uther Menethil says: Ah. When I was a boy, that word had a… very different meaning. Now I’m not so sure.
Maighread Tàillear says: I’m not sure Galen would change his tune, but I don’t plan on giving him the chance. Do you trust these folk then?

She looked at Vittoria.

Vittoria Trollbane says: More than I trust you.
Maighread Tàillear says: That’s fair! Let me spin you a tale of my own. Might give you an idea of what we’re dealing with. I was queen consort once, of this glorious kingdom of ours.

She sat down and leaned forward.

Maighread Tàillear says: So. When I was a wee lass, I came from a mid-class family. I caught the eye of Galen when he was a prince. Family arranged a marriage. Was good for me mom and da, and it got my foot in the door. Never really loved the man. But I did what I had to. Eventually, that meant Vittoria came along, around the time of the troll wars. I’m sure you heard about it at least. As you know, king Thoras, Galen’s father, Vittoria’s grandfather, he was king up until before the wars. He was one of the victims of the assassinations. Along with your grand da, and your old king.

She gestured at Vel.

Maighread Tàillear says: And an attempt on a few others. Well. After the wars, after I had Vittoria, couple years went past. Stumbled into evidence and proof of correspondence. I’m sure you know of the business in Alterac with the Perenoldes. Their traitor king provided safe passage for the trolls. There was correspondence between Galen and Perenolde and Galen and his troll friends. It weren’t trolls that assassinated King Thoras. It was Syndicate dogs that made it look like it was trolls. It was a right good ruse. No one caught on for years. Not until his bloody wife was poking around. But me, being the dumb shite I was, brought it to him, and confronted him about it. I tried to get answers. Tried to find some sort of reason for it. Something that would prove me wrong, that he wouldn’t be a kinslayer and a power-hungry bastard. But…that didn’t go well. He and I drew steel. I’m a better fighter by a long shot, so he fled. He was the first one to draw, and the first one to flee. He got the guard on me. Claimed I was trying to assassinate him. They took my eye and they chased me out of the kingdom. Branded me the One-Eyed Gryphon. The scary monster that kidnaps good lads and lasses from their beds if they don’t eat their damned vegetables. Over the years, he struck any mention of me from the royal records. Vit here, Vittoria, didn’t even know I was her mother. Bloodlines have been erased. Apparently he’s claiming he don’t know who the mother is now. And some sources say that those that poke their noses in and ask get themselves silenced by gold or noose. No it fits him better for me to be the One-Eyed Gryphon. He knows I know the damned truth, and I’ll have his damned head one day for it. Alas… I don’t got no proof. Just word of mouth. That’s enough for the men and women here, the people who have seen his treachery, his greed, and his true face, not the one he shows the courts and the Alliance. But the real snake that’s dooming our nation. Unless I can wake the dead, and ask bleedin’ Thoras himself, I’ve not got much a chance of finding anything. Not yet, anyway.

Uther immediately glanced over at Vel.

Velameestra Windrunner says: What if you… could ask him?
Maighread Tàillear says: Well that would be a damn miracle, that’s what that’d be.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It’s… entirely possible, if you feel it would be advantageous. And entirely within my abilities.
Maighread Tàillear says: You understand if I’m a bit skeptical. Though I guess you are an elf. Your kind’s got all sorts of magic, eh? You got something that can do something like that?
Velameestra Windrunner says: If you have something of his or a grave site or his body or… something connected to him, yes.

The woman clicked her tongue.

Maighread Tàillear says: Short of Trol’kalar, and that blade rarely leaves Galen’s side, or sneaking our way into his bloody tomb in the heart of the city… but if you could talk to him somehow, and we can learn what happened for sure, I’ll get you to where you need to be.

Vel nodded.

Maighread Tàillear says: But we need to make it convincing. Just talking to his spirit ain’t going to be enough. We need proof. Something we can show the rest. The nobles and the other folk to get them to turn on him.
Velameestra Windrunner says: What if Galen’s father was the one to confront him?

Maighread chuffed.

Maighread Tàillear says: Well that would be something.
Velameestra Windrunner says: What’s the current situation? Outside this refuge here?
Maighread Tàillear says: The League, my folks, have got camps like this. This is the biggest of them. We don’t have many major encampments. We mostly try to fight against Galen when we can. Get sympathizers out. Try to spread propaganda. Cut off supply lines. But it’s hard to do it, because they squeeze the rations on the good people of Stromgarde when it gets bad, and it’s going to get bad. We’re doing what we can, but Galen has been allying with this High King bloke. That’s been filling the purses for people to talk good about Galen for the time being. Our spies in the cities can get us some information. If you need to learn something about the city, we can give it to you, but right now, they’re looking for my head. We’ve been trying to reach him, but he’s a damned coward, even when he leaves the kingdom. Which is rare. There are good men in the army that I think would understand if they knew the truth. People like Danath. But without proof, we’re grasping at straws.
Velameestra Windrunner says: What was the motive behind kidnapping Vittoria?
Maighread Tàillear says: I wanted her out. With me. When she attended your memorial service, Uther, I saw my opportunity. I snagged her, explained everything, and got her out of his clutches so that he couldn’t use her against me.
Vittoria Trollbane says: That’s what I’ve always been. Another piece in your game.
Maighread Tàillear says: It’s not like that!

She took a deep breath.

Maighread Tàillear says: I just want you safe. I understand if you don’t want to get involved, but I’m telling you, this is the truth, Vittoria. Whether I can prove it to you, we’re both fighting for a better tomorrow for Stromgarde. I won’t stop you if you want to go back. But I’m asking you to stay.
Vittoria Trollbane says: I’m not going anywhere. Especially not with you all here.

She looked at the party.

Vittoria Trollbane says: if your story is true… I want to know it as well. If father did commit this sin, then he’ll need to be brought to justice. But… I have no plans of drawing steel alongside your brethren until I know for sure. Even if the stories are fabrications, you have a lot to prove.

Her mother nodded.

Maighread Tàillear says: As you say, lass. What you and your kin decide to do is up to you. I hate to say the League is desperate, but the League is desperate. It’s only a matter of time before Prestor sends reinforcements, and then we’ll be hard pressed to do anything. I have no desire for power, so once I vacate the throne for you, Vittoria, it’s yours. What you choose to do with it is up to you. You decide to take my head for the sins against Stromgarde, then so be it. You’ve earned it. Regardless, that’s what the situation is. I’ll learn what I can about the tomb, or if you prefer to lure him out personally, you can try that as well. I don’t think it would work well, and it would be a hefty price, but if it will earn Stromgarde her freedom, that’s a price I’m willing to pay. I don’t know if this is helpful to you, but I will say when the holy man tried to bring Thoras back, it didn’t work.
Velameestra Windrunner says: There is… a failure chance with resurrection rituals. There are also other things that can interfere with it, but without closer investigation it’s hard to say.
Maighread Tàillear says: Well. If you can do anything around it, that’ll be keen. In the meanwhile, if you are fighting Daval Prestor, we can help you make his life a living hell. Any information or anything. You are welcome here. The refuge hasn’t been found by the loyalists. We’re safe here for the moment. If that changes, hopefully we can get word to you.

Vittoria nodded.

Vittoria Trollbane says: I will be staying for the time being.. I want to see what my father does. And what she does. One’s true face often appears on the battlefield, and I’ve never seen my father take it before. I find it hard to believe the stories are true, but if it is… I’m ready to do what needs to be done. Or I will be, at the very least.

She looked down at Skye. There seemed to be a fear in her, as it was likely her father didn’t know about the baby, and there were enough doubts that she was worried what her father would do if he found out.

Vittoria Trollbane says: If you do look into this and need to speak with my father, he will come if I call him. But he won’t do so unprepared. Depending on the circumstances, if you do all help with this, you have my gratitude, as well as everything else. I can’t promise what will happen after all this, but if you’re in trouble, know that you have my sword.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I… there are some other things we need to deal with. Presently. Gathering more information about that tomb, and potentially any other traces of Thoras, even heirlooms or a likeness, would help.
Maighread Tàillear says: Aye. We’ll do what we can. It won’t be easy. I suppose it’s possible we can find something with the trolls in the eastern ends of the Highlands, but I don’t think they’ll easily hand it over if they do have anything.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Certainly not.
Maighread Tàillear says: Our people have warred against the Witherbark for as long as Stromgarde has been here.
Velameestra Windrunner says: And I’m certain Uther will fill you in on everything else going on.
Maighread Tàillear says: Aye, of course. But you and yours will be welcome here whenever you need it.
Velameestra Windrunner says: The hospitality is appreciated.
Maighread Tàillear says: I’ll leave you to it.

She got to her feet, and left with only a passing glance back at Vittoria.

Vittoria Trollbane says: I told you it was a bit complicated.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It seems everything recently has been a bit complicated.
Uther Menethil says: Only entirely.

They had some time to talk further, and Uther would meet with many of the others in the camp, though he was introduced as Angus. Siobhan was with Vittoria when she was abducted, and had gone to look for her, and eventually stayed as she didn’t want to leave her basically sister alone.

Uther told Vittoria everything that had happened, and just took time to exist as a family. Luma and Elissa opted to stay there and get to know some of the people at the refuge further. Vel and Galadin, meanwhile, got ready to go to Dalaran, and Vel used [Telepathy] to open a link with Enrian Silverfall.

Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathy]: Enrian. Are you doing anything?
Enrian Silverfall says [telepathy]: Well, it seems I’m talking to you. I see you are, in fact, using the telepathy spell. You never cease to amaze, Velameestra. I do hope you’re doing well.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathy]: Well enough… I need to get into Dalaran.
Enrian Silverfall says [telepathy]: I see! That shouldn’t be too hard. Do you have something you can use to scry?
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathy]: I do.

There was a palpable silence that seemed to say “of course you do.”

Enrian Silverfall says [telepathy]: Um. Good. And your teleportation, you could do it if you see something, right?
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathy]: Correct.
Enrian Silverfall says [telepathy]: Let me finish what I’m doing here and I’ll go for a stroll to find some place quiet around one of the parks. That way we don’t have to use the circle. Wouldn’t do for people to be asking questions about you, would it?
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathy]: Appreciated. I’m going by Zelda, by the way.
Enrian Silverfall says [telepathy]: Oh, that’s a good name. Zelda.

She also projected what she currently looked like in her present disguise, so that he could more readily identify her.

Enrian Silverfall says [telepathy]: Oh, stunning! Very good. I like the red in your hair. It really pops with how, well, your complexion. Pale as you are.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathy]: …Thank you.

Shortly after, Enrian’s voice manifested in her mind again and he started to make some small talk as he looked around for a sheltered location that Vel could use to teleport into Dalaran.

Enrian Silverfall says [telepathy]: What are you coming to Dalaran for?
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathy]: I’m… bringing my cousin home.
Enrian Silverfall says [telepathy]: Ah. Your cousin was missing? Well I’m glad he’s safe.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathy]: You and me both.
Enrian Silverfall says [telepathy]: Come to think of it… I did see a missing person’s poster. You know. That does make sense. I didn’t even think of it. There’s been a lot of missing person’s posters around. I probably simply didn’t pay attention. My apologies, I should have caught on to that for you.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathy]: It’s fine. I found it out.
Enrian Silverfall says [telepathy]: I suppose you did. And… this should be good. There’s no one around. So at your leisure, if you peer in.

Vel channeled her magic through the scrying mirror and assessed the area that Enrian had found. Satisfied, she took Galadin’s hand, and the two of them teleported into Dalaran. They arrived in a park, not far from the diner where Aethas Sunreaver and she had once spoken in private about the warlock concerns in Dalaran, which had resulted in the conception of the Sunreavers.

Enrian Silverfall says: Welcome home, Zelda.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It’s good to see you in person.
Enrian Silverfall says: Likewise! You’re looking great. And you must be…
Galadin Windrunner says: Galadin.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Galadin, this is Enrian.
Galadin Windrunner says: Nice to meet you. So… you’re Zelda’s friend?
Enrian Silverfall says: Yes! Friend. Friendly rival. Informant. Confidant. Many things. You could describe our relationship in many different ways.

Enrian bowed.

Enrian Silverfall says: I am pleased to make your acquaintance.
Galadin Windrunner says: …Right.

Galadin flashed Vel a look that clearly said “yeah, this guy is definitely from Silvermoon.”

Galadin Windrunner says: Well it’s good to meet you.
Enrian Silverfall says: Likewise! Is there anything else I can help you with while you’re here?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Not presently. Though I would like to take you out to lunch. As a thank you. Provided things go… alright.

Enrian smiled.

Enrian Silverfall says: That’s very considerate of you! I would be honored. Today? Tomorrow?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Probably tomorrow.
Enrian Silverfall says: It’s a date then! I’ll look forward to it. If you need anything, and I mean anything, just give me a holler.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I appreciate it, Enrian.
Enrian Silverfall says: Stay out of trouble, you two.

Enrian flashed another smile and headed off. Galadin looked up at Vel after the other elf was well out of earshot.

Galadin Windrunner says: Where’d you meet that guy?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I… helped bring him back from the dead.
Galadin Windrunner says: Oh. Shit.
Velameestra Windrunner says: He was a student at the school we infiltrated when we were on the run in Quel’thalas. He didn’t survive the warlock attack there. I… was able to do something, so I did.
Galadin Windrunner says: Well. I’m glad that you, uh, have a friend on the inside. Rival?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I… am not fully following the part. But I believe he is trying to outpace me.

Galadin snickered.

Galadin Windrunner says: Good luck.
Velameestra Windrunner says: He’s very talented. He mentioned he had recently mastered tier five spells.
Galadin Windrunner says: Okay, yeah, that is pretty impressive. But aren’t you like… using tier eight magic now?
Velameestra Windrunner says: …Yes.

Galadin snickered again.

Galadin Windrunner says: Good luck. So, are we going to do this?
Velameestra Windrunner says: …I suppose we are. Um. Is it alright if I… enter the manor?
Galadin Windrunner says: Yeah, I don't see why not?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Excellent. I won’t need to ask uncle Rhonin then.

Galadin looked at her, perplexed, but then he pieced it together.

Galadin Windrunner says: Oh! Oh, you actually did have to ask that, didn’t you?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes.
Galadin Windrunner says: Heh. Okay. That’s kind of funny.

Galadin reached out and gave her hand a squeeze. Vel squeezed his hand harder than he was used to her doing so. But she then released it and folded her hands neatly behind her back again.

By the time they arrived at the manor, it was near the time Rhonin would typically be arriving home after work. They had taken a seat nearby on a bench to keep an eye on the road he would be following, and they saw him arrive home. He was well-dressed in his Kirin Tor regalia, and he seemed to be conversing with various people via sending. He passed within 20 feet of them without noticing, and entered the manor.

Vel had visibly tensed, but she waited for a few moments after Rhonin entered the manor before she spoke.

Velameestra Windrunner says: That’s… probably enough time for him to get settled. If he follows the same routine I remember, anyway.
Galadin Windrunner says: Alright. Lets do this.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Lets do this.

The two of them got to their feet and headed over to the manor. Vel hesitated for another moment before she raised a hand to knock. As she did, her eye caught something moving in one of the windows, and she identified the shadow of the cat Mr. Bigglesworth staring down at her. Vel felt the presence in her ring skip.

Kel'Thuzad says [telepatically]: There he is! I knew he would be safe, but I’m so glad to see him nonetheless!

Vel knocked firmly on the wood of the door. Moments later, they heard a voice from inside.

Rhonin Windrunner says: I’ll get it, don’t worry. No, I’ll get it, you’re cooking!

A moment later, the door opened to reveal Rhonin. He had cast away some of his robes and was just wearing a simple tunic and his coat. He looked a bit haggard, and he rubbed his forehead with the back of his arm.

Rhonin Windrunner says: Can I help you? If this is solicitation you should know–

He abruptly stopped when he saw Galadin.

Rhonin Windrunner says: Galadin?
Galadin Windrunner says: Uh… hey dad. I’m home.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Oh… my son…

Rhonin melted and pulled Galadin into him as he wrapped his arms around the boy.

Rhonin Windrunner says: My stupid, idiotic son! Where the hell have you been?
Galadin Windrunner says: It’s… it’s a long story, dad.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Well you’ll have plenty of time to tell me. You’re grounded, young man.
Galadin Windrunner says: I had a feeling you were going to say that.
Rhonin Windrunner says: But I’m so glad that you’re here… but I mean it, you’re really grounded.
Galadin Windrunner says: I get it! Dad, I get it.

Rhonin smiled as they pulled apart, and there were obvious tears of relief in his eyes. He stepped back to let Galadin come into the manor and then looked at Vel, who he had not recognized due to her disguise. He nodded and gestured for her to follow him inside.

Vel gave a nod in return, her claws digging into her palms behind her back as the nerves wracked at her, but she followed Rhonin inside and allowed the door to shut behind her. The scent of delicious food cooking wafted in from the kitchen.

Talath Dawnsworn says: Is everything alright, Rhonin?

Talath peeked out from the kitchen.

Talath Dawnsworn says: I hope it’s not another salesman! We aren’t looking to do any Brewfest sponsorships, and I know there’s only a couple more days left, but– Galadin!?
Galadin Windrunner says: Hey Talath.
Talath Dawnsworn says: You’re home! You’re alive! You’re safe!
Galadin Windrunner says: Yeah, you didn’t think I was going to die or something, did you?
Talath Dawnsworn says: N-no! But I was still worried. Hold on!

Talath ducked back into the kitchen and a few seconds later he emerged fully from the other room.

Talath Dawnsworn says: There, the stew is simmering now. I’m so glad you’re alright!

The elf’s clockwork hummingbird followed him out of the kitchen. It was ticking, as it probably had a timer set for whatever he was cooking.

Talath Dawnsworn says: You look good. Um.

He looked over at Vel, also not recognizing her.

Talath Dawnsworn says: And I suppose we have you to thank for finding him.

Rhonin had turned away and was sorting through some things at a side table in the large entry way.

Rhonin Windrunner says: Yeah. I suppose we do, stranger. I suppose you’ll be wanting the reward for bringing him back. If you give me a moment I can get that sorted out.

There was silence for a moment as Vel reached up to slowly undo the lace mask that was covering her eyes, and she allowed the minor illusory alterations to her facial features fade away. Rhonin had snapped his fingers and was sorting through a pouch of coins that had been summoned to his hand, still not looking in her direction.

Rhonin Windrunner says: I believe that the reward I promised was 500 gold pieces for information that leads to his return, and a thousand if he was brought back safely. Is that still sufficient?

He had started to count through the coins.

Velameestra Windrunner says: That… won’t be necessary, uncle Rhonin.

Rhonin froze, and the metallic sound of a coin clinking into the pouch was heard. He turned back in Vel’s direction, where he saw her with the mask held tightly in her hands, and her ears flattened nervously against the side of her skull. Talath bore an expression of pure shock and awe, completely speechless as the “stranger’s” true identity was revealed.

Velameestra Windrunner says: …Hey–
Rhonin Windrunner says: What is the meaning of this?

Rhonin interrupted her with a stern question, his voice rising.

Rhonin Windrunner says: If this is some sort of trick?!
Velameestra Windrunner says: It’s not a trick–
Rhonin Windrunner says: I’ll have you know that impersonating a member of the Kirin Tor is a serious offense. I will see you ROT in the Violet Hold for DARING to wear her face in my house!

Vel flinched, her ears still back.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Uncle Rhonin… it’s me. I promise… it’s me.

She started to take a step forward, but then stopped herself.

Rhonin Windrunner says: That… that can’t be possible.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I understand I… have a lot to explain. But I am… I am…

She paused, bloody tears starting to drip down her face.

Velameestra Windrunner says: …Citizens of Dalaran, raise your eyes to the skies and observe. Today… we welcome the newest esteemed, ranking member of our order. Velameestra Windrunner. Among one of the youngest graduates of the Kirin Tor… who has now ascended to become one of the youngest elven archmages in our city. She has set… the standard for our organization… she has… achieved top marks, has displayed a… terrifying degree of work ethic…

She had started to recite a fragment of a speech Rhonin had once drunkenly told to her on the eve of her birthday. He had returned from a tavern crawl, but had still ensured he had gotten home to celebrate at midnight. It had been a speech that had been years ago at this point, and she could not manage to get the rest of it out, but it was enough.

There was no reason for anyone else in the entire world to know what she had just repeated back to him. His expression changed to shock and confusion as the bag of platinum pieces crashed into the floor at his feet.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I’m… I’m sorry… we weren’t supposed to be that long…
Rhonin Windrunner says: What… happened to you?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Daval Prestor tried to kill us. We had to escape. We… we fled to the Shadowlands. Time passed much faster…
Rhonin Windrunner says: And you’re… you’re crying blood now. I’ve only seen that one time.
Velameestra Windrunner says: …I died later.
Rhonin Windrunner says: So you’re one of them.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I can explain–
Rhonin Windrunner says: Arcane be damned. This is… if this is some kind of sick joke by the world? I don’t find it very funny.
Galadin Windrunner says: Dad! It’s still Vel. I don’t care if she’s crying blood– or eating blood or– she saved me! Her and everyone else!
Velameestra Windrunner says: Uther… Remnii… they’re all alive.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Then Gil… he…
Velameestra Windrunner says: …Prestor pinned the blame on him. Because he wasn’t with us.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Heh…

Rhonin’s arms were dropped out to his sides.

Rhonin Windrunner says: I guess this is what I get. So what happened? That turned you into… into one of these? Into a vampyr?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I… I asked for it.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Is that so? I assume you know everything that happened then?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I’m… missing bits and pieces. But most of it… yes.
Rhonin Windrunner says: You did it to help Alleria didn’t you?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Alleria and… all of them.

Rhonin chuffed mirthlessly.

Rhonin Windrunner says: If there was any doubt in my mind that you’re… that you’re my Vel. That’s exactly something she would do, isn’t it?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I would… hope so, given I did it.

Rhonin chuffed again.

Rhonin Windrunner says: Listen… I don’t know. I don’t know what I’m supposed to think right now. What I’m supposed to do…
Velameestra Windrunner says: If you… would prefer me to leave I can–
Rhonin Windrunner says: No! No. No, please… I think I need a bit of time before you walk out that door again.
Velameestra Windrunner says: …Okay.

Rhonin took a few steps back towards her.

Rhonin Windrunner says: Those tears… they sure aren’t subtle, are they?

Vel shook her head. Rhonin brushed some hair out of her face and used magic to clear the streaks of blood away.

Rhonin Windrunner says: I think I’ll need a little bit? To process all this and to figure out… what I think of it all. But I’m not angry at you. If you’re worried about that? Vel, I don’t think I could ever be angry at you. If I could be angry at you about something, it would be this! But… I don’t think that’s what I’m feeling right now.
Velameestra Windrunner says: …Okay.
Rhonin Windrunner says: It’s not how I expected. It’s not how I wanted… but I’m glad you’re back, kiddo.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I’m glad I am too.

More tears had started to seep down her face.

Rhonin Windrunner says: I can… get you a handkerchief or something. Do you…? Gods, this is going to be… a nightmare to figure out. You’re dead. You’re… legally dead.
Velameestra Windrunner says: And… you’re a member of the Council of Six.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Right! You… know about that?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I’m very proud of you.

Rhonin laughed weakly.

Rhonin Windrunner says: Well I have you to thank for that. I don’t think I would have gotten my act together if you hadn’t…

He trailed off, realizing what he was about to say.

Rhonin Windrunner says: So necromancy, huh?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yeah.
Rhonin Windrunner says: We can talk about that later. We can talk about a lot of things later.

Vel nodded, and Rhonin gestured in the direction of the study.

Rhonin Windrunner says: Make yourself at home, kiddo. It was your house first, after all.

Rhonin moved over to pick up the gold he had dropped, and he murmured to himself that it was days like today that made him wish he didn’t stop drinking. Vel said she was proud of him for that too.

Rhonin Windrunner says: Seems you’ve been… doing even more than you thought you did after you died.

Talath cleared his throat.

Talath Dawnsworn says: Um, Vel? Are you… do you…? Um. Should I put a place for you at the dinner table or…?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Do… do you have coffee?

Talath nodded.

Talath Dawnsworn says: Of course! Not a problem.

Talath turned around to put a pot on, but he stopped at the doorway and turned around to give Vel a small smile.

Talath Dawnsworn says: Welcome home, Vel.

Later that evening, Raluhi had come home and called out a hello to everyone. He mused that whatever Talath was cooking smelled wonderful, and he apologized for being late as he had someone come late to the shop. He was fumbling around as he entered, but then he saw Vel and stopped.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Hello, Raluhi…
Raluhi says: Velameestra…?

His eyes rolled into the back of his head and he promptly fainted. Vel hurried over to check on him and bring him too again. He opened his eyes and promptly asked her if he had lost his mind and was starting the descent into becoming lost, but Vel assured him that he didn’t and she was in fact there. She also assured him that Remnii was also okay and with her people.

Raluhi says: Praise the Light!

Raluhi suddenly moved to pull Vel into a hug. Vel hugged him back, more tightly than she would normally, and she happened to glimpse Rhonin who had come in to also check on Raluhi. There was a look of guilt on his face.

Rhonin Windrunner says: You know you shouldn’t be fainting like that, old man. What if you clocked your head on something?
Raluhi says: I’m sorry! I was simply startled upon seeing what I thought to be the ghost of Velameestra Windrunner!

Vel bit her lip, and she cautiously explained the situation to Raluhi, who was taken aback for a moment, but he asked if Remnii knew. Vel confirmed she did, and Raluhi said simply that if Remnii had not passed judgment on her, then he wouldn’t either. He assured her that as long as she was Velameestra, she’d be welcome in her own home as far as he was concerned. He thanked Vel for looking out for Remnii, and Vel assured him that she was with her father.

While Vel and he were talking, he had picked up on the nervous looks Vel had cast in Rhonin’s direction while he busied himself with his own business, and Raluhi lowered his voice.

Raluhi says: I’m… sure he’ll come around to it. This has been a lot for him, and he has a lot on his table. I believe… is that the phrase?
Velameestra Windrunner says: A lot on his plate.
Raluhi says: Ah! To be fair, there’s a lot on his plate and his table! But he’ll come around to it in time. He loves you a great deal. Scarcely a day would go by where he did not think of you, though I’m sure you already knew that.

Vel nodded in acknowledgement.

Later on, after dinner, while Vel was sitting on her couch in the study, she heard the mewling voice of Bigglesworth as he strolled into the study.

Mr. Bigglesworth says: Well well well, the wayward apprentice returns. Back from the grave!

He jumped onto the back of the couch.

Mr. Bigglesworth says: A vampyr? How very interesting.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Quite. I trust the occupants of the manor have not troubled you, Mr. Bigglesworth?
Mr. Bigglesworth says: Adequate service. Though it pales in comparison to my dear, beloved Kel’Thuzad. I trust he’s been doing well?

In Vel’s head, Kel’Thuzad was all but squeeing about his cat as he murmured about how much he missed Bigglesworth cleaning his paws and how adorable he was. Vel assured Bigglesworth that Kel’Thuzad was quite happy to see him.

Bigglesworth was pleased by the confirmed, and also expressed that he trusted Vel was pleased to be returned to him as well, and Vel confirmed she was, and that she could now understand him. Bigglesworth said he noticed and that he was sure it was one of the most captivating gifts of her transformation.

However, he mused he had also heard vampyrs required permission to answer a residence, which Vel confirmed. Bigglesworth also mentioned he had heard such permission could be rescinded by the owner of such a residence.

Velameestra Windrunner says: …Mr. Bigglesworth, are you blackmailing me?
Mr. Bigglesworth says: I am simply suggesting you remain on your best behavior, Velameestra Windrunner!

Bigglesworth climbed up on her lap and started to make biscuits in it.

Mr. Bigglesworth says: Lest the untoward come about. I would hate for such a circumstance to take place, however.

Bigglesworth fully settled into a loaf in her lap.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Your courtesy and hospitality is most appreciated.
Mr. Bigglesworth says: I suggest you get to appreciating me then!

Vel started to pet Bigglesworth, who purred contentedly. Over their mental link, Vel informed Kel’Thuzad that his familiar was blackmailing her, and Kel’Thuzad crooned about how smart he was. He assured her that Bigglesworth would never rescind permission for long, however, as he doubted he’d want to be away from him for that long.

Kel’Thuzad asked Vel if she was doing alright, and Vel acknowledged the reunion went better than she had dreaded, so that was ultimately a positive.

Kel'Thuzad says [telepathically]: If you needed to ease the way… you could influence him, you know.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: I’m not doing that, Kel.
Kel'Thuzad says [telepathically]: I didn’t suppose you would. The hard way it is then. Though if you ask me, there’s been far too many reunions as of late. It’s starting to get rather tiring.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: …I’m sorry.
Kel'Thuzad says [telepathically]: ‘Tis my own bed.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: Your daughter… she’s in Stromgarde, isn’t she?
Kel'Thuzad says [telepathically]: Yes, she is, and given the status of what we heard I do worry for her safety. A wholly unfair worry for me to have. After the ways I failed her, there’s not much I can do for her. Nor am I worthy of worrying for her in the first place.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: I can check in on her.
Kel'Thuzad says [telepathically]: You are quick to help. I won’t stop you, Vel. At the very least she may be of some use to you. An alchemist of her skill would be invaluable. But you don’t need to do anything for me. The sins of my past aren’t important. Not anymore.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: The dead deserve closure as much as the living.
Kel'Thuzad says [telepathically]: Very well. I believe his highness is rubbing off on you. But I suppose that’s not entirely a bad thing.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: It does ensure I check myself…
Kel'Thuzad says [telepathically]: Oh… my… did you see that? The way his ear just twitched was absolutely delightful! Oh how I missed him! My Bigglesworth! Get behind his ears, he really likes that, and with your claws it would be extra fantastic!

Vel asked Kel’Thuzad if he wanted her to see if Bigglesworth wanted a kiss on his forehead, and Kel’Thuzad said he would. Vel asked Bigglesworth if he wanted a kiss on his forehead, and Bigglesworth said he would allow it. Thus, Vel kissed him on his forehead, which left a small smear of dark lipstick–a sight that caused Kel’Thuzad to completely lose it in delight.

September 27th

The following morning, before Rhonin went to his classes, they made an arrangement to meet at the Bank of Dalaran after class so they could go through Krasus’s vault in the hopes that maybe Vel could find something he missed.

Rhonin told her that if anything happened in the meanwhile, he wanted her to message him, and she assured him that she still had her sending stone.

Rhonin Windrunner says: Okay. Oh, and if you need anything from the cabinet… you… don’t eat normal food anymore. And if there’s… actually, nevermind.

He forced himself to leave before he wound up late.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I love you.

Rhonin hesitated in the doorway.

Rhonin Windrunner says: …I love you too, kiddo.

He gave her an uncertain but warm smile before he left. Vel had used the opportunity of the day to meet up with Enrian and get some shopping down.

Later in the evening, Vel met up with Rhonin at the Bank of Dalaran after classes were over for the day.

Rhonin Windrunner says: Hey, everything good?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yeah. How was your day?
Rhonin Windrunner says: Pretty good. Thank the arcane it’s Friday, right? Ah… yeah. Um. I have some tests to grade this weekend.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I'm surprised they still have you teaching everyday even as a council member.
Rhonin Windrunner says: I actually asked to. Personally I think everyone should. Keeps you humble, you know?

Vel smiled at him.

Rhonin Windrunner says: I don’t want this to get to my head. I don’t care that I’m a Council of Six member. I’m still Rhonin. And honestly I think this city could use that, especially given everything going on. We don’t need a mysterious council that never walks amongst the populace. We need people that understand what it’s like to be a citizen of Dalaran. So. I’m hoping that maybe makes some waves.
Velameestra Windrunner says: They could use someone more grounded.

Rhonin smirks, and then chuckles at the fact that Dalaran was presently literally floating.

Rhonin Windrunner says: I should be able to get us in though.

Rhonin led Vel inside and spoke to one of the tellers. Before long, a white-haired goblin with thick and heavy glasses entered.

Goblin Teller says: My my, if it isn’t Rhonin Windrunner of the Council of Six! What can I do ya for? Looking to make a withdrawal or something?

She then glanced over at Vel and paused.

Goblin Teller says: I don’t think we’ve been introduced.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Zelda Morrowsworn.
Goblin Teller says: Glutonia. Pleasure.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Pleasure.
Rhonin Windrunner says: She’s a colleague of mine. She has some… insights that I think might be valuable for another pass through Krasus’s vault.

Glutonia looked at Vel again.

Glutonia says: Is that so? Well that’s a curious story. One I’m not going to be talking about right now. Keep your secrets, councilman.

With a flick of her wrist, the goblin produced a requisite form.

Glutonia says: You know the basics. You’ll be allowed in, but you will be subjected to a magic dispelling ritual before and afterwards.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Of course, that’s not a problem.

Rhonin signed the form.

Glutonia says: Very well! It looks like everything is in order.

She snapped her fingers, and a powerful dispel magic from the bank itself washed over Rhonin. She then looked at Vel again.

Glutonia says: But I don’t think you’re subject to such a rule, actually. Not if you’re with a member of the Council. Since his identity has been confirmed, frankly it doesn’t matter who you are.
Velameestra Windrunner says: That’s efficient.
Glutonia says: It is, isn’t it? Say, did the two of you hear the news? The Guardian of Tirisfal is back.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Ah. He has certainly been missing for a time, hasn’t he?
Glutonia says: He has! I’d sure love to meet whoever was responsible for that. Take care! Don’t break anything.

She turned to walk away with a wide, sharp-toothed smile. Rhonin sighed as she watched her leave.

Rhonin Windrunner says: Every time I talk to that woman, I get the sense that she knows way too much. But I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
Velameestra Windrunner says: She does work for a bank. I think at default she probably knows way too much.

They passed through a door and entered into a chamber where there was a specialized teleportation circle. They were given a small piece of stonework as a ticket that was keyed into the proper safety deposit box. Rhonin grabbed Vel’s hand, and they were warped into another chamber that was about the size of a typical demiplane. Inside was Krasus’s extra belongings. It seemed to have been poured through, and there were some documents as well as a desk with magical bits and bobs that belonged to him. The thing that caught Vel’s eye the most was a plant that was well taken care of, despite the fact it was inside the demiplane. There was a driftglobe hovering above the plant, providing it with the light it needed. It was a dragonleaf tree.

Vel went over to look at it.

Rhonin Windrunner says: I looked at that. I didn’t see anything strange on it.

Vel noticed, however, noticed an illusion that was hiding something on the bark of the tree. There was a symbol that was the same as Gil’s tattoo, and it was covered with an illusion.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Did… you see this symbol here?
Rhonin Windrunner says: Symbol? No. I checked it over with a detect magic, but I didn’t see anything weird.

Vel reached out to use [Identify], and as she touched it, a projection of Krasus materialized behind her in the opening of the room. Rhonin jumped.

Rhonin Windrunner says: How did you make that happen??
Velameestra Windrunner says: I touched the tree.
Rhonin Windrunner says: I touched the crap out of that tree!
Projection of Krasus says: Gil. If you’re seeing this, I assume you’ve been poking around here. I’m sorry I haven’t been able to contact you. I wanted to leave this to you in case I lost track of you, or if you couldn’t reach me, you’d know what happened. Jaina Proudmoore and I are looking for a way to destroy the demon soul. We have some leads. Some things we’re looking into. There is a scratch on the demon soul. Something has damaged it. It’s just a matter of finding out what that thing is. I believe that scratch was made by the aspect that did not entrust his power within it, Deathwing. Getting him to strike it would be impossible, but… well… that leads me to my next course of action. Jaina and I are going to an ancient land known as the Broken Isles. They are about a thousand miles east of here. There, an old friend of Tyranastrasz makes his lair, and ancient wyrm named Senegos. Those islands are home to one of Neltharion’s lairs. Few know the location, but if anyone does, it would be Senegos. Aspects willing, we will find something that will aid us. A scale, perhaps, or a tooth. Anything that can be used. With the right enchantments, we hope to destroy the demon soul when the time is right. The Broken Isles are at the heart of the disturbance, so if we’re there, you won’t be able to reach us if you try. Once we’re done, I plan to report to my lair in the Whispering Forest. Make your way there, and wait for us. As long as everything goes according to plan, we’ll find our way back before long, hopefully with an answer. My lair is deep within the Whispering Forest, deep in the Tirisfal Glades. The region is sparsely populated, but there is a village. On the banks of Tirisfal Lake is a village called Tirisvar. The people there are good folk, and they know about my identity. The leader does. I suppose you could call him a mayor. Seek out Robert Travard. He can point you to the right area. Hopefully I’ll be able to reach you, but if you can’t find me, head there. You’ll find my lair in some ancient highborne ruins. Relics from when your people first came to this continent. With that information, and your training, and your allies, I’m sure you’ll be able to find it. And Vaelstrasz, if you’re here, thank you for looking out for them. I appreciate it. Take care of yourself, I hope to see you soon. Aspects watch over you.

The spell ended.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Well.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Son of a bitch.
Velameestra Windrunner says: That provides a direction.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Yeah. Guess he was going to the Whispering Forest.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Then I suppose that’s where we’re going.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Just… be careful, alright? They say the Whispering Forest is haunted, but… I guess that’s not much of a worry for you anymore. Plus you guys just came from Gilneas. Whatever is haunting there is probably nothing in comparison to Gilneas. Seems like he thought you were Gil.
Velameestra Windrunner says: We are twins.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Maybe that was enough to activate whatever spell you stumbled on.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Or he just didn’t expect anyone to see through the illusion.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Yeah. You’ve really taken to your teachings, haven’t you?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I’ve had to.
Rhonin Windrunner says: I’m a little bit afraid you’ve passed me at this point.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Technically you became archmage before I did.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Ha! Good point. Good point. Look... I’m sorry if I’ve been weird.
Velameestra Windrunner says: You’re entirely justified. It was… a lot to drop on you.
Rhonin Windrunner says: I’m just really glad you’re back. Weirdness… justifications aside.
Velameestra Windrunner says: …I missed you a lot.
Rhonin Windrunner says: I kind of feel stupid. The amount I poured my heart out at your grave and over the sending stone… oh shit. Did you get those?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I got… several of them. There were points where they cut out. Arkha’din misses chewing on your belongings too.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Honestly, I don’t think I’d be mad if you let him. Not this time at least. I know you have to leave soon… but why don’t you stay one more night? Maybe we can play a few games of Hearthstone. I haven’t had the chance to play since… everything.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yeah. I, um, added a new card to my mage deck. It’s… myself.

Rhonin chuckled quietly, but then realization dawned.

Rhonin Windrunner says: Oh fuck, they’re going to print a card of me now, aren’t they? Well that’s going to be weird.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I suppose I’ll need to get that one.
Rhonin Windrunner says: I hope it’s terrible. Just so I can beat you for once.
Velameestra Windrunner says: You might have your chance. I’m somewhat rusty, I haven’t played much either.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Lets go see what Talath is making for dinner.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Okay.

Rhonin gave Vel a gentle squeeze on her shoulder and they headed back to the manor.

September 28th

The next day, Vel got ready to say goodbye to her loved ones. Galadin was going to stay in Dalaran for a little bit, but he eventually wanted to go back to Karazhan so he could help. Rhonin had agreed to let him help as long as he promised to keep up his studies, and as long as Vel ensured Galadin did so. Everything Galadin helped with also had to be okayed by Vel, because Rhonin trusted Vel to ensure her younger cousin stayed out of trouble.

Rhonin Windrunner says: I guess this is goodbye for now. Lets… not make it the better part of a year.
Velameestra Windrunner says: That’s not my intention.
Rhonin Windrunner says: And no more dying on me, okay?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I promise.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Okay.
Velameestra Windrunner says: If it’ll help you feel better, I can always check in every once in a while.
Rhonin Windrunner says: I think I’d like that. It’s… going to be really hard not to tell Vereesa. But don’t worry. I’ll make sure no one else knows.
Velameestra Windrunner says: …Thank you.
Rhonin Windrunner says: I should be able to lie to her over sending. In person I have a feeling she’d wear me down, but…
Velameestra Windrunner says: Just… don’t bring anything related up.
Rhonin Windrunner says: I don’t plan on it.

Rhonin moved in to give Vel a hug, she hugged him very tightly back. It wasn’t the best hug he had ever given her. He was still very clearly nervous, but he also wanted the hug. Vel purposely put her face against his chest instead of over his shoulder, ensuring her fangs were far away from his throat so that he wasn’t even more nervous.

After the hug ended, Vel bid one last farewell, and teleported back to Karazhan.

Meanwhile, Uther also bid farewell to the friends he had made at the refuge, as well as Vittoria, and Skye.

Vittoria Trollbane says: Take care of yourself, Uther. I’ll see you again soon.
Uther Menethil says: Of course. Not soon enough.
Vittoria Trollbane says: Well. You know where I’ll be. I’ll pray for you.
Uther Menethil says: I’ll be doing the same.

Vittoria gave Uther another kiss.

Vittoria Trollbane says: We’ll both be praying for you. Isn’t that right, Skye?

Skye burbled happily up at them.

Uther Menethil says: It’s funny. I’ve been trying so hard to ensure that the world is a safe place… and now, it almost seems foolish, because I can’t imagine a realistically safe enough place for this one. I heard my father talk about it before. The change that happens when you hold your child… When I was younger, I just rubbed it off. Now that I’ve done it… it’s terrifyingly powerful.

Vittoria took Uther’s hand.

Vittoria Trollbane says: Good thing you don’t need to imagine it alone.

Uther reached his hand up to his face and rubbed his eyes to smudge away any moisture as he gazed down at his child.

Uther Menethil says: I’ve got to get to work. The sooner I get started, the sooner we can save the world and get back to doing the really important things. Like planning for this one’s birthday.
Vittoria Trollbane says: Aye. if it takes us too long, she might be old enough to be a flower girl once our wedding happens. I’d like to do it before that. Save the world that is.
Uther Menethil says: Soon, Vittoria. Not soon enough.
Vittoria Trollbane says: Fight for me, and I’ll fight for you.
Uther Menethil says: I adore you, you know that.
Vittoria Trollbane says: And if you keep talking like that, I won’t let you leave. Go on!

Vittoria walked Uther to the tree alongside the others. They stepped through the tree once more, and the last thing Uther saw was his beloved Vittoria smiling at him, and gently having their daughter wave goodbye.

They arrived back at Karazhan, ready for whatever happened next. They rejoined with Vel.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I found our next destination. We’re going to the Whispering Forest in the Tirisfal Glades.
Elissa Cross says: I’ve heard of that place! I’ve never been, but I heard of it!

Vel and Uther both knew the Whispering Forest was the forest that dominated the mountainous region to the east of Lordaeron. It was near Tirisfal Lake, which was somewhat close to the actual ocean. It was sparsely populated, and the folk there were somewhat grim. It was believed that the place was haunted, and the reason it was sparsely populated was because no one in their right mind would live there. Vel, however, had read a fair amount about the region out of curiosity. The First Stone of Silvermoon had made reference to someplace similar to the Whispering Woods. It even said the woods were dark and endless in a way that drew her attention. The fact that Krasus had made reference to his lair being in old highborne ruins was also incredibly interesting. There were also legends that the Council of Tirisfal had met there to empower the first Guardians.

The group got ready to go, as Vel suggested that they try to teleport as close as possible and then focused on the coast of Fenris Isle in Lordamere Lake. She launched them through the leylines toward Fenris Isle. However, she sensed them move past Fenris Keep, and she cursed and tried to stop the spell.

She felt some arcane tearing, and they appeared in a burst of magic that shot them into an empty glade. Woodland creatures immediately fled from their arrival, and they felt wobbly, but they did arrive.
