Chapter Three: The Scales Tip

Victor was one of the representatives from Alterac, along with his mother, Calia, who traveled to Last Crossing for the war summit. Their own entourage happened to arrive at Andorhal at the same time as the Lordaeron envoy, at which point he joined his cousin, Uther Menethil's, envoy for the rest of the journey.

When they stopped in Hearthglen on the night of the Hallow's Eve celebration (and Uther's nameday), he interrupted the lighting of the wickerman to suggest that, given the kingdom's crown prince was present, and it was his nameday, that Uther should be the one to set it alight in a show of his sorcerous abilities. The crowd was ecstatic about the idea, and at their insistence, Uther complied.

Over the days where they drew closer to Last Crossing, however, Victor's mood sobered considerably, especially once the ban'dinoriel became visible in the distance. While still courteous, he became much less talkative, and that continued into their arrival at Last Crossing. At least, up until the arrival of Velameestra Windrunner, who he made a point to greet while she was meeting up with Uther, Remnii, and Elissa. The tension between the pair of them was quite clear, as after initial pleasantries, the elven mage quickly excused herself.

However, a few days later, Arthas's horse, Indomitable, arrived in Last Crossing, exhausted and without a rider. Victor was among one of the first ones to leap to go search for the lost king, as his mother had been with him, and he accompanied Uther and his companions as headed to Light's Hope Chapel--the last place Arthas and his entourage was believed to be.

Due to the unknown status of his mother, Victor was nearly inconsolable, ranging between panic and anger for much of the journey. As they investigated the massacre that they found on the other side of the lake outside Light's Hope, which were the remnants of an attack on the entourage, Gilveradin--who had arrived earlier that day--produced a golden eagle clasp that Seria (in the form of a raven) had found in the woods. Victor immediately identified it as belonging to his mother and hurried after the raven as she led him to where she found it.

Only to stumble upon the body of his mother.

Victor immediately began to cry out, grabbing his mother in his arms and refusing to leave her side until the group as a whole continued to the chapel. The group collectively met in a small inn where they could discuss their findings, and Uther presented the cryptic note that Falric had managed to claim before he died. Victor was quiet through most of the discussion, up until Velameestra suggested that the note could imply involvement of the Syndicate, at which point Victor swore loudly and drove a knife into the table with fury.

However, after the meeting, Velameestra hung back to speak with Victor before they parted ways for the evening. She offered her condolences, even if words would not do much, and Victor nearly laughs at the notion, sarcastically asking what he was supposed to say to such a thing. Vel started to retreat after offering sometimes it was just good to know that people were there, but Victor stopped her, wanting to know why she bothered to tell him as much given she knew he didn't like her.

Vel simply offered that she knew what it was like to lose a mother, a statement that quickly took the words out of Victor's mouth, and there was a moment of stunned silence before Vel left.
