June 20th - June 25th

During the time in Gadgetzan, Remnii takes an evening to dream Velen. The wrinkled smile of the Prophet Velen greets her in the crystalline chamber that she frequently meets him in, though perhaps later than Remnii would have liked.

They embrace, and Remnii spends some time informing Velen of everything that had happened.

Remnii says: I believe we are going to start to make our way to Ashenvale. But I… simply wanted to check in on your end. I will keep you apprised, but I am unsure I’ll be able so see you before I see their High Priestess. I am fine to speak with the voice of our people. I know you, I know the exarchs, but lives are on the line here, vakas… I am looking to you for guidance.
Velen says: I… understand the pressure that is put upon you, and I understand this may seem daunting, but know that we have all tried and failed to reach out, yet you have already succeeded in many ways. If there is anyone whom I would trust with putting an end to this misunderstanding, it would be you Remnii.

Remnii smiles.

Remnii says: The Light will guide me, as their Elune guides them. I hope in all their strength they can see what is dividing us is holding all of us back.

She pauses, mulling over her words.

Remnii says: I have stared Gul’dan in the face, and seen much, yet… I find a different kind of fear. I still am not sure I know how to explain it. I have the confidence I will persevere, but I… Archimonde came here before. And I believe some of the prejudice we face is because of their war they won against the Legion with Archimonde at its helm. I feel as though I owe it to them, and to us, to set this right. The more I sit in my thoughts, the more daunting it seems. The nature of my birth does not define me, yet the way his name is spoken, when the kaldorei cannot see me apart from an eredar, and they speak of you and the rest in ill terms… my heart feels heavy. I feel as if I need to do more to make up for the harm that was done to this world.

Remnii massages her temple and leans forward onto her knees. Velen places a hand on her shoulder.

Velen says: We all carry burdens, Remnii. Burdens of our actions or our inactions of the past. Burdens that our fathers once bore. The sins that have been committed by our brothers are sins that I wonder everyday if I could have stopped. Perhaps if I had been able to convince Kil’jaeden or Archimonde to be wary of the Dark Titan’s words. If I had been able to save more of our people when we fled… if this gift of prophecy that I have born… if I was worthy of carrying it, or if it was more a curse than a blessing. These are all things I have thought, and still think. The burden that you choose to carry, Remnii, is a great one, and no matter what happens, I know you will give it all of your heart, and your soul.

Remnii smiles and leans her head against Velen’s shoulder, and then she takes a deep breath.

Remnii says: I know now I do not have the gift of foresight…

She chuckles mirthlessly.

Remnii says: The burden of our people, of what has happened between us, Argus, Draenor, and now here is not one that is to be shouldered alone.

Remnii strokes Velen’s cheek.

Remnii says: I will not allow you to shoulder this alone. If we are to make this our home, if we are to make a stand here, both, it will take more than just you and I. We will build. Even if the start… seems bleak. I will not let it remain that way.

Velen smiles.

Velen says: You know, Remnii. I had pondered for a very long time as to what Nuuri’s last thoughts were when she chose to send you to me. I believe, with all my heart, that she knew that you would be exactly what I would need. In the darkest hours I have faced, and that we will face. Because of her, because of you… I know that I do not have to face it alone. I know that I can’t face it alone. If only because you would not allow me to.

Remnii thumbs over Velen’s cheek one more time and touches her forehead to his.

Remnii says: I will let you know when we get to Ashenvale. Funnily enough, our contact there supposedly punched Archimonde in the face directly…
Velen says: Well! If you can convince someone like him, this High Priestess should be a cinch.
Remnii says: I don’t know about that, they are matriarchal.

Remnii continues going into her plans moving forward, and Velen informs her that the draenei had not been staying in one place for long. They are presently staying with a small group of dark trolls, but they are going to likely move on to somewhere else in the Barrow Deeps as he worries they are taxing their resources.

Velen then takes Remnii’s face in his hands.

Velen says: No matter what happens, Remnii, I want you to remember you are not alone, and bearing the burden of our people is not your sole responsibility. I am there in spirit, as is all our people, and the naaru. I believe that is why Mu’ru guided you, and chose what he did.
Remnii says: Thank you, vakas, for your wisdom and your reassurance. I am not done doubting myself, but I believe that is the condition of anyone that draws breath.

Remnii nods.

Remnii says: I may be able to see you soon.
Velen says: You will. One way or another, and I look forward to when I can hug you in person.

He gives her a kiss on the forehead, and Remnii starts to tear up.

Velen says: I am so proud of you, my child.
Remnii says: I love you, vakas.

They hug, and the dream starts to fade away. Remnii awakes with happy tears in her eyes.

The group also gathers together so that Remnii can [Commune] and ask a few questions. Remnii lays her crystals around her, and then begins to ask questions.

“Is Zalzane a lich?”

She hears the song of the naaru, and she hears the chimes go into a major key: Yes, of a sort.

“Is the man known as Malus, Aramar’s uncle Silverlaine?”

She once more gets a confirmation of yes.

“Is Greydon Thorne safe?”

The song, however, stops, indicating that the information is beyond the reach of the commune’s knowledge.

Remnii returns to the waking world with her answers.

Aramar ponders the answers for a moment.

Aramar Thorne says: Well. I guess we know that’s him, then. Nothing about my old man, though.
Makasa Flintwill says: What does that mean?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Any number of things. If he is protected by divination magic, the spell would come back inconclusive.
Makasa Flintwill says: I would… not be surprised. But that will not stop me from being concerned. I hope we can find the truth sooner rather than later.
Aramar Thorne says: Yeah, I’m with you on that, but at least we have a lead. If Malus is coming after me or my father, he might know. So now I have to track down my uncle apparently, and squeeze out what information I can.
Makasa Flintwill says: We do not know what he is capable of. It’s possible he could be more skilled than you are giving him credit for.
Aramar Thorne says: You think I don’t know that?
Makasa Flintwill says: Regardless, I will be there to confront him as well. I want as many answers as you do.

Aramar nods.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I suppose our next step is to get a solid lead through. At this point it may be more of a 'Hail Mereldar' given our limited information but it’s worth trying.
Aramar Thorne says: Is there anything I can do to help? I don’t know how this works. Do you need my blood or something?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Truthfully the sketch you have may help. It may count enough as a likeness that it could guide the magic.
Aramar Thorne says: Well. Better than nothing I guess.
Remnii says: And keep your blood inside you.

Aramar fetches the sketch, and Remnii pulls out the new scrying focus she had purchased. She starts to channel her magic through it, but the orb remains clouded. There does not seem to be any sort of connection.

Remnii says: The man known as Malus may have hidden himself in some capacity… or he was able to resist the magic.

Remnii looks to Aramar.

Remnii says: The more we know, the better this will get. We will try again, do not lose hope.

Aramar nods, clearly disappointed.

Aramar Thorne says: Alright. We’ll see what we can learn, and we can try again later? This isn’t a one-time deal?
Remnii says: Certainly not. We’re here to help you. Both of you.

She looks to Makasa as well, who looks angry at the entire business.

Makasa Flintwill says: If I hear anything about it, I’ll let you know. We could also try to scry on some of the members of the crew—perhaps that will let us learn more. I cannot give you a description, though I think Aramar may have some images of some of them… they may be a good source to learn as well. I’m unsure how this works.
Remnii says: I can try. It will not be easy to pinpoint them, as I have no experience myself, but even a small shot in the dark can bring a pinpoint of light.
Makasa Flintwill says: We need not try now, but if we decide to try, I recommend either the first mate—a dwarf by the name of Durgan One-God—if we can find him, Greydon won’t be far. He is headstrong, but I believe his defenses may be lower than others… failing that, perhaps the third mate—Joe Barker—could be another individual. I’ve known him for a very long time. We served alongside each other. I trust him… and if we do find where he is and we can meet him… there may be a bit of an additional windfall. Our druidic friend with a penchant for wolves may have a vested interest.
Remnii says: Is he…?
Makasa Flintwill says: From Gilneas. Originally. He has not returned for some time. If he could get him to speak, anyway.
Remnii says: Well, I believe we have some leads.
Velameestra Windrunner says: And I think I’m going to touch base with Rokhan and inform him on what we found on Zalazane.

The group nods, and Vel conjures a [Sending] ritual.

Velameestra Windrunner says [sending]: Confirmation, Zalazane is a lich of sorts. If you can think of any prominent item Zalazane created, let me know.
Rokhan says [sending]: I will think on it. See if I can speak with some of the others and see if they got any ideas. Check back when you got the chance. Maybe I’ll come up with something. Good work Vel, appreciate it.

Up in the Overgrowth, Tol’vas presents the idea of trying to reach the grove of Cenarius to Naralex.

Naralex says: It’s possible… I’ve not been there, but I’ve been near it. It resides in an area unbroken by the sundering after the War of the Ancients, an ancient grove comparatively less far from where the Well of Eternity collapsed. It is possible to visit there I believe, though… I don’t know how it has been recently. There was something that had appeared not long before I faded into dream. Some storm, some disturbance, was making contact difficult. There may be risks involved, but we can try as long as you’re well-prepared. It would be wise, I think. At the very least, even if the Lord of the Forest is not there, informing some of the other children of Cenarius of what happened here would likely be wise. It would likely be wise to bring Zen’tabra if we have room. I think she could learn as much from them as we could if we are permitted entrance, of course, and if we can reach it in the first place. I don’t know how bad this storm has become.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I know the storm was cutting communication off, but I don’t know about physically…
Naralex says: We’ll have to proceed with caution. I’ll be happy to accompany you, as would several others, I’m sure.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I was going to also ask Seria and Broll, of course.
Naralex says: What of your other companions? If they have a druid to vouch for them, I do believe that they would be able to tread within the Dream. But I would still suggest you endeavor not to linger. The longer we spend there, the less control we have over the flow of time. More than a short period there and we may find that more, or less, time has happened here.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I was just thinking Remnii.

Naralex considers.

Naralex says: Very well. I’ll ask some of the more powerful among us to see if anyone wishes to come, but obviously you and your companions have priority. We should have no trouble returning.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: You made quite the distinctive spot.
Naralex says: You can say that again.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Then I suppose I’ll ready myself to make the trip.
Naralex says: Very well. Once your friends return, we’ll prepare to handle that, and then the consequences of the full moon.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Yeah… that’s a thing you get used to.
Naralex says: I don’t envy you.

June 25th

The group prepares to return to the Overgrowth in the afternoon and bid farewell to those that are staying in Gadgetzan. Livii does not give Remnii a hug yet, but she does see Remnii off at least. Telagos is also present (in his human form) to say goodbye to everyone.

Telagos says: When next you arrive, I’ve been able to make coin selling my wares! I may have some other things you may be interested in when you return. That aside, be careful everyone, and make sure you watch out for each other.

Aramar and Telagos shake hands. Telagos’s arm is no longer in a sling. Kilnar also is there to bid them farewell, and Tae’thelan is there to see off Tae’shara before he floats off to take care of his other business.

Kilnar Goldensword says: Thank you for coming back to visit! It’s always a pleasure to hear about the fascinating things you mind. If you need anything, you need only ask, and I can do everything I can to back you up.

With a smile, Kilnar takes Vel’s hand and gives it a squeeze before backing off to watch the group teleport.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Alright, as before. Hang on to each other if you need it.

She throws her hand towards the ground, and with a swirl of blue energy and shining magic, the group reappears nearly exactly where they had teleported from in the first place.

It seems a lot of work has gotten done. There are more than a few treants wandering around helping, and it does not take long for the away-party to regroup with the others. It’s fairly hot and humid, though thankfully the trees provide shade from the otherwise oppressive heat. There will likely be rain showers later on in the evening.

Broll Bearmantle says: Perhaps we should start by sharing what we’ve learned, and what we’ve been able to accomplish.

Aramar immediately goes off on what he found out about Malus--in that he is actually his uncle Silverlaine Thorne. Vel also fills in the details Aramar had missed, and also informs Zen’tabra and Seria that Zalazane is, in fact, a lich of sorts.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: A what?
Zen'tabra says: Well I don’t reckon I know what that means but the more information we know about it the better off we’re going to be when it comes to take the fight to his doorstep, ya?
Velameestra Windrunner says: It also gives us some leads as to what his potential weaknesses are. Which is useful.
Zen'tabra says: Good, good. I leave that to you then. You seem better with the ideas then I am. If there be anything Auntie Z can do for you to make this a bit easier for ya, let me know. I got a vested interest in taking him down a peg or two myself.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Rokhan has also been informed. So he’s working back in the village.
Zen'tabra says: Thats good, thats good. Rohkan’s got better ideas than I got. I’m sure he’ll be able to come up with something with ya.
Velameestra Windrunner says: If you think you might know of anything notable Zalazane had in his possession, that may be useful to follow up on.
Zen'tabra says: Well I don’t know for sure, but if anyone knows anything, my money’d be on Master Gadrin. He’s an old troll, Seria knows him. He was friends with Vol’jin’s old man, taught him lots of the mojo and voodoo that he knew. Part of the reason he became a Shadow Hunter in the first place. I’m sure Rohkan may already be tapping into him. But you talk to Old Man Gadrin and he be pointing you in the right direction.

Vel looks to Seria.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I’m just going to leave that to you, if you know him directly.

Seria nods. The most she had interacted with him was when he helped her mother give birth to her--but beyond that, she had primarily observed him from a distance. However, he had survived Zalazane’s attack, and he had left with the Darkspears that had fled to Zandalar.

Zen'tabra says: While you were off galivanting around the goblin-city, we learned a few things ourselves. With Seria’s help, I was able to learn a few things about the nature of this Nightmare. Using a few samples we was able to take from some of the wreckage, and the information we had learned from the autopsies you did, Vel.

She explains that the mutations were, in fact, a perversion of nature, and it seems to be outside of the Dream in origin.

Zen'tabra says: It seemed to be a reaction to some sort of shadow magic. I don’t know too much about it, but it’s something.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Shadow magic?
Zen'tabra says: That’s the best thing I can come up with.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I have a source I can try to contact. The creatures we encountered are not unfamiliar to me. Though they were not on this plane the last time we saw them.
Zen'tabra says: That be good I say. The less of those things we have to deal with the better. But, my first guess would it have been a plague of some sort. Death, or something like that. But I had that proven wrong.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Shadow and death go hand in hand. But this particular breed of it is distinctly different.
Zen'tabra says: Well I have to thank you then. We would have never had an opportunity to do something like this if you hadn’t went and cleared this place out in the first place. So, good work all of ya! Hopefully we can learn some more from this.
Naralex says: In any sense, I understand that you and your group will be leaving after handling things. If I am unable to send you off, myself and the circle have prepared a small thanks for what you have done.

He pulls out a leather satchel. There is a bowl that seems to be made of wood, and inside are beautiful emeralds. There are a handful of other emeralds inside. He hands it over to Tol’vas.

Naralex says: We will be able to spare these, and these should be useful for all of you for a number of different reasons. They’re valuable, but with some powerful magics you can cast, this bowl has the requisite enchantments needed to conjure a bounty from the Emerald Dream, and these emeralds can replace the enchantments. In addition, they can let you delve into the Dream in less direct ways. I wanted to give these to you regardless of anything else. Though we will need these things to rebuild our circle, we are also willing to give one of them to your group as thanks. May whichever you choose serve you as well.

He offers the group the items from the serpent lords, and Tol’vas takes the serpent-scale armor.

Naralex says: This once belonged to Scarletleaf. She was the best amongst us. It will serve you where it once served her. There are few others I would trust to ensure it’s in good hands.

He then leans forward and adds quietly.

Naralex says: This armor should be able to resist breaking should you change forms for one reason or another. When you’re prepared to gather for that idea you presented to us, let us know, Tol’vas.

Naralex heads off.

Remnii says: I… had a thought. This may be controversial, but I wanted to ask your consent, permission, and thoughts of telling Jarod what he’s working with here. We’re going to meet him in less than a week, and he will be lobbying for us, but beyond Samaara and I, there is more controversy in the group simply by virtue of your beings. I am not fond of asking for forgiveness rather than permission….
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I see no problems with that.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Nor do I. Ultimately, being able to explain in a controlled environment would be wise than the circumstances arising in the moment.
Remnii says: Showing that we have less to hide may be better in the long term.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: It will come out eventually, and by nature of my name they may already know.
Broll Bearmantle says: That’s possible. Just because I didn’t know you doesn’t mean Archdruid Staghelm won’t.
Remnii says: Alright. I will inform him. Thank you. Though, of a little interest--by all means do all trolls know each other--but there is a small population of dark trolls that are aiding my people for a time underneath Ashenvale.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Under?

Remnii nods.

Remnii says: They have already moved on. They, as in the draenei, but simply a point of interest. At some point we may be going back underground to figure out next steps.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Most certainly. Most druids live underground.
Remnii says: I… love being under the earth.

Remnii gives a dry smile.

Remnii says: But beyond that, that is all I have. So thank you again.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I suppose that leaves me for a proposition for you then. I plan to go physically into the Dream to a very important grove. I would like to extend the offer for you to come with us.

Remnii looks to her left and right.

Remnii says: Oh. Me? Well… are you sure that would be wise with…
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: You’re not an eredar.
Remnii says: I am not, I simply do not wish to tax what is already taxing for all of us. My one stipulation is that I do not want to push. We are in your home. I don’t want to be a, um… deborah downer? Last time we physically went to a different plane, it took six months.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: You didn’t choose to go there though, right?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Well… it depends on your definition of choice. The spell was technically cast...
Remnii says: I am only worried about time. If we come out six months from now… I’m worried things will get worse.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: As long as we don’t stay long, we should mitigate time dilation.
Remnii says: Well, I would be honored in that case.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I think it may be wise for you two to go as well?

He looks at Zen’tabra and Seria.

Zen'tabra says: I’d be happy to. There is much to learn.

Seria nods as well.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Alright, I’ll prepare for that then.
Broll Bearmantle says: There is one other thing I wanted to ask all of you. If I am to go to the grove of Cenarius… there is something you should know. There is a Keeper of the Grove by the name of Remulos. He is one of the first sons of Cenarius, and he is Cenarius’s youngest child and keeper. He once gave me an idol that I could focus my druidic powers for.

He pulls a carved idol out.

Broll Bearmantle says: I failed in my duty, and because of my negligence I was unable to ensure the idol was returned to him. He may be upset, and if he is, I promise I will take the full brunt of his anger. I would also beg a request of you… I know we have traveled far together, and I promised to follow you and ensure your protection… but…

He looks to the Overgrowth.

Broll Bearmantle says: I believe there is much I can do here. I would not burden you or the rest of your companions with my own negligence. So, if you would allow me to, I would like to stay here with this Circle and help them rebuild. Perhaps once we get this place to some modicum of safety, I can reach out to other circles and tell them what we have seen, and perhaps we can join forces at the other side of this to combat whatever darkness there is to face. If you believe I am better served at your side, I will follow without a second hesitation. But if you will it, I think I can do a lot of good here for the other druids, and for all of you.

Remnii had been examining the idol while he spoke. It had been clearly scarred by fel magic, and the only sorts of people that could fix it were people intrinsic to its creation.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I wouldn’t dream to hold you back from a place you think you could help.
Remnii says: Broll… I was going to say this in private, but since you brought it up here… a lesson I need remind you…

Her eyes also flicker to Vel.

Remnii says: Not a single person is responsible for the entire soul of their people. I believe no matter where you will go, you are already doing great things. You have vouched for me, you have given many of us a chance… I know you do so out of some sort of obligation, but it speaks to the good nature of your heart. No one person can lift the grief from your heart for the loss of your family, but…

She places a hand on his shoulder.

Remnii says: You are a friend, first and foremost. You are no servant or beholden to us. But if you feel a calling here… then please... You can help them as you have helped us.

She places the idol back in his hand.

Remnii says: Fel magic has wounded this. I would take it back to the person who made this… I say this with no offense, but there was little you could do for this. It was deep scarring. Imagine the land itself scarred by this. The same thing has happened to this. If you wish this fixed, you will need to bring it back to him. But do not bring it in shame. You still have it. The heart for your people is vast, and I empathize deeply.

Broll nods.

Broll Bearmantle says: You are right, as you tend to be. Thank you for your kind words. Though it will take me time to bring to heart, I will try to do so, and perhaps if we do not find Keeper Remulos at his father’s grove, those there will know how to find him, and in time, I can find a way to restore it… and perhaps get some small amount of closure.

Remnii smiles, and then nods.

Remnii says: The last piece I would leave you with is that the path to feeling better and recovering from grief, it is not a linear journey. There will be darker days, and lighter days, but that journey will be facilitated by those around you. You are not alone, Broll Bearmantle.
Broll Bearmantle says: Thank you. I have enjoyed traveling with you, and I hope to do so again, but for now, we have some time still to spend, and we will part as friends.

He puts a hand on Remnii’s shoulder and gives a gentle squeeze, which Remnii squeezes in turn.

Vel follows after Broll. He seems in good spirits following the conversation.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Broll?
Broll Bearmantle says: Miss Velameestra? Can I help you with something?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes. There was something we encountered in the caverns that I wanted to speak with you about.
Broll Bearmantle says: Of course.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I was wondering if you knew what this was? Tol’vas explained but I didn’t understand most of the context.

She uses [Minor Illusion] to show an approximate image of a wisp.

Broll Bearmantle says: Ah, you encountered wisps within. That would be considered a blessing in most other places. That you encountered them would be a boon of good luck by our people. They are spirits of the forest. They are aloof at times, and they flit in and out. But they are benevolent. Protectors of the woods. There are stories of them guiding lost children home. Stories of them returning to groves that have been burned by wildfires to restore them to be twice as bountiful. They sometimes flit around groves and give them the blessings of the forest, enabling the fruit to grow thrice as abundant as it otherwise would. It’s even said that in times of peril they would gather together to banish the darkest elements back to where they once came. They had done as much during the War of the Ancients if stories are to be believed.

Vel listens and looks at the illusion.

Velameestra Windrunner says: So they’re well received amongst your people?
Broll Bearmantle says: Yes, they are universally recognized as a blessing from Elune, the goddess of the moon and the forest itself. It’s even said that the first of the wisps, a great spirit named Aessina watches over the forest of Ashenvale. That all wisps are her children or extensions of her will. They can be playful at times, and can sometimes be difficult to comprehend. But those who speak the tongue of the forest, like myself, Tol’vas, Seria and many of the others here can communicate with them. Though its sometimes difficult to. They live on a different wavelength then we do. The things they care about are different from what we do. So when they show kindness it is different, but they are benevolent all the same. But yes, not a night elf alive would see a wisp and fear it, except for perhaps the youngest of children.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I suppose that brings some amount of reassurance then, that there are undead amongst your people that are viewed in such a way.

Broll blinks.

Broll Bearmantle says: What do you mean?
Velameestra Windrunner says: They’re undead. I um… I have a tattoo that can sense undeath in a certain radius. It was a precaution I had created that I shield myself against. But it did light up in their presence.

As she shows him the tattoo she sees that it has begun to glow. She sees a light behind Broll dance through the shadows of one of the trees before it disappears again. She hears a quiet sparkling sound.

Velameestra Windrunner says: There’s one behind you.

He looks around, with a bemused chuff.

Broll Bearmantle says: I believe you. It’s said they can also hide themselves from mortal eyes. But that they’ve come to this place is a good sign. It means that this place is beginning to heal, if slowly. Perhaps they will deem it right to help us on our quest here. But what they are is largely unknown to most. They’re enigmatic spirits that dwell in the deepest parts of the forest. Most believe them to be spirits from the Emerald Dream. But perhaps there’s more to it than that.

He sighs.

Broll Bearmantle says: A couple of months ago I would have been more surprised, but well… But you’ve ensured that you would not be the first example of a creature tied to death that would risk their life and limb for others. That shows selflessness. Though that does raise plenty of questions well beyond my ken to comprehend. But that is an interesting thing. And thank you for sharing it.
Velameestra Windrunner says: And thank you for explaining. I’ll let you back to whatever you and Tol’vas and the others are doing.
Broll Bearmantle says: And thank you for showing more evidence of different perspectives you can see the world in. It’s not a lesson I’ll soon forget.

Vel offers a small smile.

As Broll leaves, she hears the same tinkly sound from behind her. There’s a wisp, that floats there before swirling around her, then flits into the air before disappearing.

The group heading into the Emerald Dream gathers together, and Elissa also suggests that Uther come along as well. Muyoh fills in the last slot to accompany Naralex.

Tol’vas closes his eyes and focuses on the Scythe, and he starts to focus on the stories he heard of the Emerald Dream and the Grove of Cenarius. He remembers what it was like to be in a place close to the Emerald Dream, but then he starts to hear the low rumbling of thunder. He reaches out for the location in the Dream, and he gets a single ray of sunshine--he can sense it's there, but it won’t be easy to bring him and his fellows there.

Broll squeezes Tol’vas’s shoulder and he casts [Guidance] in preparation. Seeing the tenuous nature of the situation, Vel approaches behind them.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I’m behind you.

She casts [Enhance Ability] on Tol’vas as well before stepping away.

As Tol’vas opens his eyes, they are bright green. Vines start to circle around the scythe, and spread around the group in a swirling emerald vortex. The lightning of the felstorm starts to crackle, and Seria adds her strength to Tol’vas’s, and there is a flash of lightning and the group vanishes.

There is a roar of thunder, and Tol’vas is able to find the singular safe pathway. Then they’re through, and are standing in the midst of the Emerald Dream. There is a perpetual, starry sky above that defies expectation and beauty. There is a trickling of water--almost a song--and they find themselves just outside an islet of land. Everything seems so perfectly curated, the water almost inviting those who walk the path to cross.

There is a fluffy rabbit that looks up to the group, and a small set of wings flutter in surprise, two tiny nublets of antlers crowning its head. It leaps across the stream, a lily pad growing beneath it to carry it across.

Tol’vas and Seria’s ears catch a sound, and they rapidly realize they are not alone. Remnii feels something sharp firmly touch the square of her back. Remnii squees quietly, and Tol’vas and Seria sees figures shifting in the wilderness. There are women with leaf-like armor and wild hair with deer-like bodies: dryads.

The largest dryad Tol’vas had ever seen is standing behind Remnii. She is wearing simple wooden and leaf armor, and she has two massive elk-like horns and a wild mane of green hair. Vines and flowers adorn her hair, and her keen eyes look down at Remnii, and then the rest of the group. She has a spear out, touching the square of Remnii’s back.

Dryad Leader says: Not one more move, outsider.

Other dryads start to emerge, and about two dozen make their way out of the trees and bushes.

Dryad Leader says: Why have you come to the Grove of Cenarius? You know it’s not safe to do so… or do you not know?

The druids all look confused.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Um… actually I was not aware it was unsafe to do so….

The dryad blinks and she pulls the tip of the spear away from Remnii. She seems perplexed.

Dryad Leader says: Then why did you come here? You did notice the fel disturbance that is on this place’s reflection? Certainly you did not stumble through that, did you?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Stumble isn’t the right word, but through it, yes.
Dryad Leader says: So you did so intentionally?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Yes.
Dryad Leader says: And if I’m not mistaken, that the Scythe of Elune?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Yes, it is.

The dryad nods.

Dryad Leader says: These outsiders are with you then?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: They are.

The dryad spins the spear around effortlessly, and puts it at rest at her side.

Dryad Leader says: Oh, well, I suppose that’s that then. I did not realize another nahlen’do had been selected. Congratulations are in order, I suppose.

Naralex chuckles.

Dryad Leader says: Well, I suppose you are welcome to the Grove of Cenarius. My name is Lunara. I’m the grove’s caretaker in lieu of my father’s absence, and all of my brothers’ absences. I’m not certain what you sought here in light of Cenarius not being present, but if there’s something I can do, I would be happy to do so. Just don’t hurt anything. I do not want to be chewed out by my father upon his return.

Naralex seems to recognize the name.

Naralex says: truthfully, information was all we sought, First Dryad. It is an honor to stand in your presence.
Lunara says: There is no need for such formalities. I am simply a protector of this forest, as all of you are. I’ve just been doing it slightly longer.

She smiles.

Lunara says: What did you need? If it’s information you seek, I can tell you what little I know.

Naralex starts to explain what happened with the Circle of the Fang, and everyone is introduced.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I also wanted to know if there is any way to start resurrecting the Ancients?

Lunara blinks, and she and several other dryads start to laugh.

Lunara says: To bring back the ancients is a rather difficult thing to do. It’s not something that even the Lord of the Forest has control over. It’s a cycle. A natural one. Though the minds of those who were slain in the War of the Ancients can be found in the Emerald Dream, it is more than their dreaming essence one would need to restore them. The amount of strength required is well beyond our capabilities. When it is time for them to return from the Eternal Night, and the side of the Winter Queen, they’ll do so, but not a moment sooner.

She starts to lean on her spear.

Lunara says: If you are seeking their aid, they’ll come when it is their time. Especially one like he whose power you wield.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: No, I’m well aware he’ll show up when he wants to.
Lunara says: A trait you seem to share, mortal.

The other dryads chuckle again.

Lunara says: So why here? Were you seeking my father as well?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I did not think I’d be lucky enough to meet with Cenarius, but I figured his grove would be as good a place to start as any.
Lunara says: You may not have found Cenarius, but it’s nice to get some form of entertainment, and I believe that such a curious sight as your group of friends and travelers will provide such for my sisters and I. So you’re welcome here. But if you are seeking out my father, I can only tell you what I know. I’m sure it hasn’t been hidden to you that your shan’do, Malfurion Stormrage, is currently missing, if I’m to understand?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: He’s somewhere in the Dream, yes.
Lunara says: Wherever he resides is even beyond the gaze of the Lord of the Forest. He has left his grove in search of his precious student. Where his path has led him, I cannot say. Last I spoke with him was when he placed me in charge of protecting his grove. It has not been exceptionally long, though time of course travels differently here than it does in the waking world.

Tol’vas is a bit mind-boggled.

Lunara says: I have no doubt my brothers have spoken to him more recently. If you seek them out, you can perhaps find them.
Broll Bearmantle says: Keeper Remulos?
Lunara says: One of them, yes. I wager either he or Danus would know where he was. Remulos is in his own grove in the moon glade. As far as Ordanus, he was in the Raynewood in the waking world overseeing it and protecting it from satyrs and other malignant creatures.

Broll nods and looks to Naralex and Tol’vas.

Broll Bearmantle says: I believe I wish to seek out Remulos once the Overgrowth is tamed.
Naralex says: That would be wise. I would be happy to accompany you. The other Circles should know.

Lunara, however, had seemed rather tight-lipped on the subject of the Overgrowth. She also did not mention anything on the Nightmare beyond a nod of acknowledgement. Tol’vas gets the sense that she knows about it, however, as there is no surprise on her face. However, she had expressed she was glad the Circle of the Fang had managed to overcome the ordeal.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Do you have any guesses as to what the cause of this ordeal was? You don’t seem entirely surprised.
Lunara says: I sense that you and your kin already have answers to this. It’s plain across all your faces. The Emerald Nightmare. We speak not its name lest we attract its presence to this hallowed place.

She is suddenly very serious.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I understand.
Lunara says: Then you understand the threat it brings.

Zen’tabra crosses her arms.

Zen'tabra says: I understand, but I can’t say I’m comforted by you not wanting to address it directly.
Lunara says: Then perhaps you don’t understand the threat.
Zen'tabra says: Mayhap I don’t, but if ya be willin’ to share?
Lunara says: If you wish to see, perhaps there are things you could learn here. If you could prove yourself trustworthy. You were not taught by those gifted by my father, so you need to prove to me you can be trusted.
Zen'tabra says: I be more than ready to prove myself a friend of these forests. They ain’t just yours, ya know.

Lunara tilts her head, and the other dryads whisper. Naralex gives Zen’tabra an aghast look, and Zen’tabra just grins. Lunara plants her spear in the dirt and crosses her arms.

Lunara says: I’m going to make sure this is a fully comprehensive test for you, miss Zen’tabra was it?
Zen'tabra says: I be makin’ sure ya don’t forget it, mon.
Lunara says: I suppose we’ll see about that.

There is more chittering in sylvan from the dryads about this may very well be interesting.

Lunara says: But those of you who are not staying, I recommend you do not linger overlong. Someone strong enough to come here, and someone stubborn enough to tame the Scythe will be able to control it, but be wary lest you find more time passing. But I would not want some of you to return to the world and find all your loved ones have passed on.

She looks at Uther, and Remnii seems antsy suddenly.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Though… I would like to further introduce you to my companion Remnii, she has a story to tell you that may be of minor concern.

He looks at Remnii, and Lunara shifts her eyes over to her.

Lunara says: Is that so?

Remnii gives the notes of the kaldorei and draenei conflict and the history behind it and the crash of the Exodar. The dryad seems to recognize the event and put things together suddenly.

Remnii says: I have seen the outcome of a ship crash before…. I am certain the land where we crashed is corrupted, so I am aware. Not only do I wish to make this right by the draenei and the kaldorei, I would like to put forth an effort in the aftermath… anything that I can do to prove that this has been a grave misunderstanding, and we seek the health as Azeroth, as this land will be our home as well.
Lunara says: We have seen your people in the Dream in the last bit of time. It’s plain to see you’re no demon. After all…

She looks her up and down.

Lunara says: I’ve never seen a demon dress so… spritely. Let alone have I seen a demon let out such a comical squeal.

Remnii blushes.

Lunara says: In spite of appearances, my brothers and sisters and I are not kaldorei. Their wars and struggles are not ours. We are all children of Mother Moon, and we are all blessed by the forest, but the petty wars between the kaldorei and any they have chosen to war against are not known to me. My brothers may be more aware. But the corruption at the site of your Violet Star… I have heard of it, but that is outside of my jurisdiction. Seek out one of the Keepers. Any number of them would have a vested interest in correcting this error, and if the kaldorei have prevented you from restoring the land, that needs to be address.
Remnii says: I did not expect any one person to have all the answers, and I know I am maybe asking much, but in an effort to begin this process and heal the land and the damage we have accidentally done… Can I show them that you have referred me to one of your kin? If they are more aware of the situation… we are most often mistaken for demons, and they have been unable to make peaceful contact yet. The war may be petty, but the scars will only grow.

Lunara thinks.

Lunara says: I’m not sure what my word would do for you, but…

She pulls into her flowing hair and produces a beautiful branch of ivy with thorns and flowers. She holds it out to Remnii.

Lunara says: Present this to any children of the forest and they will know it is mine. Should they be stubborn, you will need to convince them you did not take it by force. My interactions with the kaldorei are mostly during wartime, but any nymphs or Keepers will recognize it immediately. Use that opening as you wish. But if you do so nefariously, I will find you.

Remnii thanks her.

Remnii says: For someone dressed as I am, do you think me capable of nefarious deeds? Thank you, Lunara. I appreciate even a small in.
Lunara says: I am certain I can outrun you with those two hooves of yours.
Remnii says: Most can outrun me while walking!

Zen’tabra whispers in Seria’s ears.

Zen'tabra says: I bet I could outrun her.

Lunara shoots a look at Zen’tabra and grins before looking back to Remnii.

Lunara says: I hope it will serve you well. Is there aught else the mortals wish?

Suddenly there is a shout in Sylvan, and one of the dryads pop up out of a bush holding the small winged rabbit up. A few younger dryads swarm around and they leap into the woods happily. Lunara chuckles.

The group seems to be largely satisfied, and Zen’tabra grabs Seria’s shoulders.

Zen'tabra says: Don’t worry, I won’t be far. You know where to find me. I just got to teach these sisters a thing or two before we get into the real business. You gonna be alright without me? Just kidding! Of course you will. But you know how to reach me if you need me for anything, and I’ll be around, ya here? Once it comes down to other things and handling Zalazane, I’ll make sure I’ll be there.

Seria nods.

Seria says: You’ll be one of the first to know.
Zen'tabra says: Damn right I will. It was good to spend some time with ya Seria. I look forward to doing it more. Ya mada will be proud of ya. Lets both go do her proud. The first thing I’m gonna do is show this Lunara how one runs a real foot race.
Lunara says: I should be able to make sure the pathway is open to you if you head back to where you were. But do keep in mind that until this chaos storm has passed, traveling to other places within here won’t be easy. So use caution.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Do you know what the storm is?
Lunara says: I know only that it covers this area in the waking world. It arrived maybe 40 years ago… maybe 50… maybe 100. It makes communication difficult, and makes travel even for us difficult--though it only seems to affect us if we pass into the waking world.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Well, that’s something at least. Do… you know anything about the current archdruid?
Lunara says: No. The matters of the kaldorei are unknown to me, and my brothers work with them. I don’t know much about them other than those who visit here. Like yourselves, for example.

The group prepares the magic again, and they find the same hole they had torn through before.

Spritely Dryad says: Well, if she’s staying here, I want to return to this Overgrowth place and see if I can help!
Lunara says: Of course, just don’t get into trouble.
Spritely Dryad says: Of course, Lunara. You know I won’t. You don’t mind if I tag along, do you?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Of course not.

The dryad has bright green hair and autumn-colored hair.

Spritely Dryad says: My name is Iphy, nice to meet you.

Tol’vas greets her and then they start to transfer themselves once more to the waking world. Suddenly, the group appears.

Aramar had gone to get his Hearthstone deck to play a game with Vel, but before he could turn away, they were back.

Velameestra Windrunner says: ...Alright, well only two seconds.
Uther Menethil says: Thank the Light.
Aramar Thorne says: Oh hey! Did it work? Did you find them?

Tol’vas gestures to the dryad.

Aramar Thorne says: Oh!

Iphy bounds off to explore the Overgrowth, and Muyoh hurries after the dryad to make sure she doesn’t get into anything while Tol’vas shares the information they had found. Vel immediately tries to corroborate with Tol’vas to see if the source of the disturbance aligned with her suspicions, but Tol’vas is not an expert at maps--however, it’s a wide area, and he is pretty sure that the area falls within her triangulations as well as the fact the original name of the location was Suramar near Val’sharah.

June 26th

The following day, Seria approaches Elissa awkwardly after having retrieved the tattoo ink they got from the caverns.

Elissa Cross says: Oh! Hi Seria!

She is currently painting a picture of Cenarius’s Grove as best as she could remember it.

Seria says: I was wondering if you could do something for me…

Elissa immediately spins around.

Elissa Cross says: Sure! What can I help you with?

Seria shows her the ink.

Seria says: I need help applying this somewhere. Another tattoo.

Elissa’s eyes sparkle.

Elissa Cross says: Oh!~ I’d love to try, if you’re okay with that. I promise I won’t mess it up.
Seria says: I’ve… seen you do it enough times.
Elissa Cross says: Okay, lets design something you might like then!

Over the course of the next few hours, Elissa takes the ink and grabs a few of her tools and starts to apply the tattoo. It starts on Seria’s wrist where there’s a snake head. The snake’s body wraps up and around her arm and continues onto her shoulder. From the snake, vines and stems of ivy and roots shoot off the snake as if it is part of a tree, and different kinds of poisonous plants, like hemlock, come off of it like a background that connects to the body of the snake. It’s a dark green, and the color seems to match Seria’s other tattoos despite the difference in color. There is a natural resistance to poisons that starts to seep into her body.

Elissa Cross says: There we go! I think it’s ready! How does it look?

Seria seems to be somewhat in awe as she examines it.

Elissa Cross says: I have a feeling a regular tattoo would be hard… it seems like the tattoo wanted to be like this? But I hope you still like it.
Seria says: I do.

She continues to admire it.

Seria says: Thank you.

Elissa beams.

Elissa Cross says: Anytime! Really, that was kind of fun. Maybe I can do one for Vel sometimes… maybe… I dunno. She might want a professional to do it.

The day falls into night before long, and the moons are starting to rise. The group gathers and Arthas looks over to Tol’vas.

Arthas Menethil says: I guess we need to get ready for this, right?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Whatever she has planned.

They come and find Vel as the sun sets. Arthas shifts nervously.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Well, I did practice this with Telagos so this should go without a hitch.

Vel produces a little key that she got in Gadgetzan.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Just so everyone knows, it’s a pocket dimension but it should be safe. There’s nothing in there you need to worry about. And it should be ideal for the situation.

She takes the key and sticks it into thin air. There’s a shimmer of magic as spider cracks open into a portal.

Velameestra Windrunner says: The moon should not be visible inside and I shall lock the door behind you.
Arthas Menethil says: Alright. So the general plan is if we lose control we’ll just go crazy for a little bit. If you lose control I just beat you up. If I lose control you can use that scythe to get me to sit down, right?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: More or less.
Arthas Menethil says: Okay.

Arthas looks to Uther, and then looks down. Uther gives him a reassuring smile and a nod.

Arthas Menethil says: Lets just get this over with.

The two step in. It looks like an open ballroom that’s been overtaken by vegetation. There are trees and roots as though this mansion has been completely claimed by nature. The sky overhead is an aurora borealis with no moon. There are spectral animals flitting about, deer and foxes and others. In the center there’s a great tree that looks like it can open into a cavern.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Big thinker for sure.
Arthas Menethil says: Damn.

Arthas pokes one of the servant deer.

Arthas Menethil says: Oh, I thought my hand would go through it.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It’s the nature of the magic, they're here to do whatever you want them to. If you want them to run, they will run and that’s how it works.

Arthas squints at one and then shouts at it suddenly. The deer runs and Arthas smirks.

Velameestra Windrunner says: But I will open the door tomorrow morning. Nothing can get out once it’s in, unless the magic is dispelled. Or I open it myself.
Arthas Menethil says: Alright. Looks like we’re having a little sleepover.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Seems like it.

Vel steps out.

The door disappears behind Vel, leaving just Arthas and Tol’vas in the demiplane.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: That’s… going to take some getting used to.
Arthas Menethil says: Yeah. Seems a little claustrophobic. Not because there’s not enough room, but… at least we can’t hurt anyone here.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Just each other.
Arthas Menethil says: Well, you’re welcome to try. So how does this work? I suppose you know when it happens, huh?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: You’ll know. And you won’t like it.

Arthas looks up at the aurora borealis in the ceiling.

Arthas Menethil says: Alright Elune! Show me what you got!
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: It’s not Elune. It’s the wolf.
Arthas Menethil says: Yeah. Yeah I guess it is.

Arthas takes to pacing for an hour, then two hours. Arthas starts to test the limits of the mansion, getting food and the like from unknown places provided by the animals. But then their blood starts to quicken. Tol’vas closes his eyes and settles into a cross-legged position, trying to center himself and find balance. He can feel the presence of the moon pulsing in his heart. But he is able to keep himself calm.

He opens an eye, and he sees Arthas on his knees, his teeth gritted as he tries to fight against the transformation. But he starts to lose. The hair on his arms starts to lengthen, and his bone structure shifts as he becomes a worgen. Tol’vas steels himself, but he personally has gotten through the worst of it.

Arthas, however, had not succeeded in the fight.

Tol’vas grabs the scythe and stands, prepared to parry Arthas. Arthas’s bright blonde fur is lit in the borealis, and he starts to stalk forward, and bares his teeth at Tol’vas.

But then he stops as the sky light falls over the Scythe of Elune. The worgen form of Arthas recoils in shock and recognition, and he stands up. His ears go straight up, and his eyes widen as he looks at the scythe, and then to Tol’vas.

Tol’vas recognizes that Arthas had remembered him. Somehow. Perhaps because of the scythe, but even in his feral state, he recognizes Tol’vas and opts to not take any aggressive action toward him.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: It’s going to be a long night, isn’t it?

Arthas quirks his head to the side, not understanding, but he sits down in Tol’vas’s presence.

It’s still a long night and Tol’vas maintains a long watch. Eventually, Arthas starts to chase some of the spectral animals. Sometimes the animals run too late, unable to parse what commands he is giving. But Arthas seems to be calmed by the vicinity of the scythe.

Tol’vas opts to talk at Arthas about his personal history, but it’s hard to say if Arthas would remember.

Tol’vas is up the entire night, and fatigue starts to creep across him. Arthas starts to get a bit woozy, and his ears go flat and he starts to lose energy. He then sits down and starts to transform back.

His eyes open groggily.

Arthas Menethil says: Urgh. Shit. Are you alright?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I’m just fine.
Arthas Menethil says: Good. I’m glad. I… would have felt bad if I hurt you.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: You didn’t even try.
Arthas Menethil says: Is that so? Looks like you’re better with that thing than I thought you were. Fuck. Having to deal with that every month will be a pain in the ass though.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Think about how women feel.

Arthas starts to laugh.

Arthas Menethil says: You know. I guess there’s that.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: So, when do you think she’s going to let us out?
Arthas Menethil says: Maybe she’ll keep us in here forever.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Nah, she probably wants to sleep in here.
Arthas Menethil says: Yeah, she probably has a plan for this thing.

June 27th

The next morning, Vel opens the door to the mansion. The two of them look tired but no worse for wear.

Velameestra Windrunner says: So how did it go?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I talked to a wolfman all night.
Arthas Menethil says: What did we talk about?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Stuff I remember. I got like 700 years of memory so I got a couple nights worth for this.
Arthas Menethil says: Yeah. Makes sense. I’m beat though. But there will be time to rest later. We should be good to go.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Well I hope it was comfortable at least. If there needs to be any alterations just let me know and I can accommodate.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Honestly it was perfect.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Excellent.

Vel is pleased with the compliment.

Arthas Menethil says: Um. Thanks. Thanks for helping out with this. I know it was technically your fault, but still, I’d probably be fucked without your help. So that’s all I want to say about that. Lets get going, I’m hungry.

At that moment, a spectral deer comes over with a platter of food.

Arthas Menethil says: You’ve got to be kidding me.

He takes a bite.

Arthas Menethil says: Damn. This is delicious. Does it just do this?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes, it serves 9 courses up to 100 people. Actually, we can have breakfast here.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Specifically 100 people?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes. Specifically 100 people.

As word begins to spread, throughout the course of the day a non-zero amount of druids poke into the manor to experience the food- including Naralex. A spectral squirrel comes up to him and holds up a pastry.

Naralex says: Is this a joke?
Velameestra Windrunner says: No, it’s magic.

He takes the pastry, takes a bite. And then another. He partakes of the food then leaves looking bewildered. Most of the night elf druids are likewise bewildered, but they do thank Vel for the food. Most of them have never seen arcane magic before, and only know that it’s dangerous. There is a good bit of culture shock.

The tauren make sure to thank Vel for the meal, as this is more exciting for them.

The group packs everything up and starts to get ready to head off towards the meeting point that Jarod had set. Many of the druids they had saved come to see them off, as well as Naralex and Broll.

Broll Bearmantle says: I… am not very good at goodbyes, so I suppose this will be… good luck. I’ll see you later, once I can help them and perhaps find Remulos and do what you said was wise.
Remnii says: It is not a goodbye, it is simply see you later.
Broll Bearmantle says: Be safe everyone, and look out for each other. And… yes…

Broll looks down and gets a bit choked up, and then he bows.

Broll Bearmantle says: Ande'thoras-ethil, my friends.

As Broll is getting choked up, so does Remnii. Broll sniffles, but is able to keep it together, and he approaches Remnii and opens his arms for a hug.

Remnii says: I was good until this!

Remnii starts to actually sob as she hugs him.

Broll Bearmantle says: No need to cry, Remnii. When next we meet, hopefully you will have seen your father again.

Remnii laughs in good spirits.

Remnii says: I hope so too! Chronakai kristor.
Broll Bearmantle says: Chronakai… kristor…?

Elissa is standing nearby, her arms behind her back. Broll sees her and smiles and opens up his arms.

Elissa Cross says: I didn’t want to ask!

She also hugs him, and Riff also slams into him to get in on the hug.

Elissa Cross says: Thank you for helping protect us, Broll!
Broll Bearmantle says: Thank you, young Elissa. There is much I can learn from you.

There is a pang of happy sorrow as he looks down at Elissa, and then he looks to the others.

Broll Bearmantle says: Farewell friends.
Uther Menethil says: Until we meet again.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: It was an honor traveling with you.
Broll Bearmantle says: The honor was mine.

They exchange nods, and Seria and Tol’vas use [Wind Walk]. One by one, the group takes off to the sky, and the tauren shout blessings after them. Naralex watches with a smile and crossed arms as they leave.

As they get into the sky, the Overgrowth is quite expansive--spanning hundreds of miles over what was once desert. They head north towards Ashenvale. It’s hot, clear, and muggy, and they take a few pit stops, but they make very good time.

Finally, they get to the edge of where the Overgrowth had reached, and they pass over a massive peak that seems to be one of the taller mountains they have seen. They soar over it, and then head downward. As the sun starts to set, they start to see the trees beyond the Barrens is an endless sea of green and violet, and the high mountains beyond nearly completely obscured by the fog and clouds in the air.

And then they find themselves in the low area of Ashenvale, and they start to fly low--seeking out the grove that Jarod had directed them to. It’s a small secluded grove tucked into the mountains to the west, well off the areas the Sentinels patrol.

They look about, searching for any evidence of Jarod. Something reaches their ears. It’s music that seems to be an old song that Tol’vas recognizes. There is a male voice singing in darnassian, and it’s a take on an old elven nursery rhyme about playing in the light of the full moon and singing with Elune.

A second voice joins it--one that is feminine. The group approaches the sound carefully, and the voice is strange--with an accent that they can’t place. There are three figures. One is a large night saber that is clearly Bard. On a nearby stone is Jarod strumming along to the song on a cittern. There is a third figure sitting in front of Jarod, her legs folded awkwardly underneath her, and there are feathers on the woman as well as a lot of bare flesh.

She seems to be trying to croon out the song.

It’s clearly a harpy with jet black feathers that become purple and then red.

Tol’vas takes the lead and starts to transform out of his cloud form a few hundred feet away, as does the rest of the group. Then they start to approach. Jarod seems to be enjoying himself as he sings, and then he looks up and sees the party. He grins and brings the song to an end.

The harpy hops up and awkwardly shuffles closer.

Harpy says [darnassian]: Oh you’re so talented at this Jarod! Play another! Play another!

Her ear twitches and she turns to the group, looking very displeased.

Harpy says [darnassian]: Who are you!?
Jarod Shadowsong says [darnassian]: Serena, these are those friends I was waiting for. It’s going to be time for you to head back to your sisters.
Serena Bloodfeather says [darnassian]: I don’t want to! I want to spend time with you!
Jarod Shadowsong says [darnassian]: Your sisters will be mad at me if you don’t head back. You wouldn’t want me to be sad, would you?
Serena Bloodfeather says [darnassian]: No! Of course not!
Jarod Shadowsong says [darnassian]: Then perhaps you should get going.

He hands her a small sack, and she pulls out a beautiful gemstone and looks at it in awe.

Serena Bloodfeather says [darnassian]: Alright. I won’t eat your friends. You’ll come back soon, right?
Jarod Shadowsong says [darnassian]: The next time I’m in the area, I will.
Serena Bloodfeather says [darnassian]: Alright. I’ll feast on your entrails if you don’t!
Jarod Shadowsong says [darnassian]: Tell the rest of your sisters I said hello.
Serena Bloodfeather says [darnassian]: No! I’m keeping you to myself! That goes for the rest of you too! Jarod Shadowsong is mine!

She takes off into the trees, and Jarod is visibly trying not to laugh. Remnii also covers her mouth.

Jarod Shadowsong says: That was quick, though I suppose that’s a precedent for all of you. I’m glad you made it safe.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: You’re friends with a harpy?

Jarod gets a bashful smiles.

Jarod Shadowsong says: It’s a long story. When I was heading back after laying Shalasyr to rest, I stumbled upon her. She had run amok of some dangerous creature and she was alone and dying… maybe it was a whim, but I nursed her back to health and got her back home. By some mercy, they didn’t tear me to shreds, and I think Serena has grown fond of me. At the very least, it makes it convenient to hide. This is the Bloodfeather hunting grounds, and they won’t hurt me. At least not yet. But I wager I have a few years of mercy before they decide to renege on their offer, but at least as long as Serena is around I’ll have this nice little grove for some peace and quiet. She’s not bad once you get to know her.
Remnii says: She seems enthusiastic.
Jarod Shadowsong says: That’s a good word. They’re dangerous, but they call these mountains their home as much as anyone else.

Remnii has a wry smile.

Remnii says: My similar attempts to be friends with harpies did not work well last time.

Jarod smiles.

Jarod Shadowsong says: It’s really a roll of the dice. I think I just got lucky. But we should be safe here. It would probably smart for us to camp. I assume you traveled a distance to get here. It would likely be wiser to rest for the night and travel during the day to avoid patrols. We’ll need to be careful about disguising where we sleep, lest we be discovered by the Sentinels.
Velameestra Windrunner says: That’s no problem.
Jarod Shadowsong says: Oh?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I can make our sleeping quarters. It won’t be visible and the entrance is disguised.
Jarod Shadowsong says: Hah. Is that so? You and your friends are full of surprises.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I should also be able to disguise us with illusion magic. They shouldn’t be able to recognize us from a distance, not unless they pry further.
Jarod Shadowsong says: Haha, you practically don’t even need me!
Velameestra Windrunner says: I wouldn’t say that.

Remnii’s mouth opens, she then motions to Vel.

Jarod Shadowsong says: That should make things easier though. We may be able to pass through the settlements without drawing too much attention. A few things you should know, most night elves can speak the traveler's tongue. Many will try to speak Darnassian first--those that don’t know it, try not to speak. A few statements here and there won’t be a problem, but it would be strange for kaldorei to speak not in their native tongue overmuch. So use caution and we can make it through. I know these forests well, and we should be able to make to Astranaar without too much trouble.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I suppose I should set up camp then.
Jarod Shadowsong says: I suppose we should. Is there anything else I should be appraised of?
Remnii says: Yes. There are a few things we should discuss by way of those traveling with us. I can speak, but since we are all here. What do you think?
Velameestra Windrunner says: If you don’t mind waiting a minute or two, we can discuss this inside.
Remnii says: Very well.

Vel takes out the key and casts the spell. The door appears, which she then opens. She gestures inside and brings them inside.

They find themselves in a vaguely octagon shaped room. There is a trunk of a large tree with ashen bark, growing through the ceiling and supporting the floors above. The trunk is surrounded by translucent mana wyrms that flicker around the tree. There are three additional passages that lead off the atrium, sconces with blue light, and three different portals they can see. It’s all lit by this blue glow. It sounds like there is a faint lullaby, but you need to listen for it.

Velameestra Windrunner says: We can likely just speak here, or we can go into one of the other rooms. There’s a meeting room through that portal over there.
Remnii says: Your heart is in everything you do, Vel. Perhaps we should take a look first?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Oh, if you want to see the entire thing first? Yeah.

She walks by one of the portals.

Velameestra Windrunner says: The rooms of requirement are if you need something specific. Training rooms, specific workshops. Whatever you need. If you think of what you need in the room it will create it.

Elissa is stary eyed. Tae’shara is speechless. Jarod is stunned. They continue to the western entry.

Velameestra Windrunner says: This door and the one on the other side are mirrors of each other. It has a bathroom and a bathing area. I figured you could just decide where to go, men and women have separate areas.

The water in the room is illuminated as though lit by mana. There’s the sound of trickling water, and a waterfall. There is a cutout above it displaying the night sky.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Towels and such are also available. If you need anything you can ask one of the mana wyrms.

There is a lot of blinking.

Elissa Cross says: Wait, the mana wyrms??
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes, they’re the functional servants here.

Elissa waves to one of the mana wyrms.

Elissa Cross says: Hi!! Can you help me with something.

One of the mana wyrms zoops down, transforms into a more humanoid form, then bows to her.

Elissa Cross says: Whoa. That’s so cool! Do they talk?
Mansion Servant says: If that is your wish, my lady.
Elissa Cross says: Wow. Thanks! That’s all I needed.
Mansion Servant says: Of course, my lady.

It bows once again and turns back into a mana wyrm, and returns to the tree with the flickering group. Through the doors to the north, there is etched glass that looks like there is warm light filtering through. Vel opens the door to reveal a banquet hall.

Velameestra Windrunner says: And the dining room and the kitchen are accessible through here. The table should be big enough for everyone, but I expected everyone to just as likely to eat separately. I tried to account for what varied tastes I could think of. There should be plenty of food… and drink.

She smirks at Tae’shara and Makasa. Makasa fist pumps.

Jarod Shadowsong says: This is incredible. I can’t believe you did this with your magic alone. I’ve seen some pretty incredible things with the magic that people like the Traveler and Illidan could cast, but this...
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: This is on scale of what they would do at the palace.

Vel is confused but stashes that away for later.

Velameestra Windrunner says: This portal right here is what leads to the upper floors. There are three of them total, counting the ground floor. If you think of the proper floor and walk though, it'll take you to that floor.

The first floor atrium is nearly a mirror to the ground floor, though there are chairs and side tables around. There’s an open space where the tree grows through, and the mana wyrms circle around it on this floor too, and up all the way to the top.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Bedrooms are here. They’re labeled on the doors. I tried to account for needs and preferences as best as I could. If anything needs adjusted I can accommodate the next casting. The sky in each room are adjustable, feel free to change them as you wish. Command word is “ocuir”, which is draconic for “to see” for those of you that do not know draconic. I will not show them individually for the sake of privacy if people do not wish- I can leave that up to you.

She looks to Tol’vas, Seria, Riff and Jarod.

Velameestra Windrunner says: And I thought druids and kaldorei- that they might feel stifled- I made other accommodations for you. They’re on the third floor.

She continues walking around, a little nervous as she’s the center of attention right now. But also a little excited as she put a lot of attention into this. She walks over to another room that has light filtering through similar to the banquet hall below.

Velameestra Windrunner says: This is a general study and common room. It has couches, chairs, tables, things like that. It has an attached workshop that’s inside. There’s also a bar in here. I thought I would save people the trip below if they did not want to take it.
Makasa Flintwill says: You really thought of everything, didn’t you?

Remnii is silent, but her tail is moving.

All the doors are labeled, there is a place for Arthas, Uther, Elissa, Tae’shara, Aramar (those two are next to each other, but Vel is not acknowledging that they are next to each other), Makasa, Remnii and Samaara (whose rooms are also attached). Each room has been customized. Each room has a fireplace and a ceiling with a lattice cutout that displays a sky that’s lighting is adjustable.

Arthas and Uther’s rooms look pretty similar- based on Uther’s bedroom and what she remembers from Lorderon Keep. Arthas's has a fur on the bed and floor. There’s a dummy he can beat up if he wants to.

Arthas Menethil says: Is this what your place looks like back home?
Uther Menethil says: Less animal fur. I don’t think mother would be too appreciative of that. But, it’s close. And I imagine the furs are a more recent affectation.
Arthas Menethil says: Well, I guess I’ll enjoy the furs while I can, huh?
Uther Menethil says: Please do.
Arthas Menethil says: I didn’t know they made cushions this soft. Shit.

Arthas lays down on the bed.

Elissa’s room has a little garden in the corner with sunflowers and daisies, because she can never decide which ones are her favorite. There’s an easel set up. The bed has a yellow bedspread with a green rug underneath it. It’s still based on Lorderon, but it’s more based on what Vel knows Elissa likes.

Elissa walks in and starts chewing on her fingers, before making a high-pitched scree. She grabs Vel’s hands excitedly.

Elissa Cross says: It’s so cute! I love it!!
Velameestra Windrunner says: I’m glad you do.

Vel smiles.

Aramar’s room is based is based on his home back in Lakeshire. There’s a desk with quills already set up for mapping. There’s also spaces where he can hang maps he’s working on.

Aramar Thorne says: Wow! Look at this! It looks like I stepped back home! This is amazing Vel!

Tae’shara’s room is set up with more conventional high elf architecture. The lanterns are blue. There’s also more stuff for writing and some tomes. All tomes in this manor are books Vel has read, which is a lot.

Tae'shara Sunwatcher says: Oh I could get used to this. You really outdid yourself with this one, Vel.

Makasa’s room looks like a ship, with a hammock and a bed. There’s the faint sound of waves crashing as background noise.

Makasa Flintwill says: Velameestra Windrunner I could kiss you right now. This… I don’t know how this is even possible. I might actually be able to get a good night's sleep for once in my life.

She points at the bed.

Makasa Flintwill says: You might as well get rid of that one while you’re at it, for next time. But this is incredible. You can consider yourself with quite a few more brownie points on my accord.

At some point, she had grabbed a bottle from the bar and she sits on the hammock and just drinks.

Remnii and Samaara’s rooms are attached. Inside those rooms are mirrored. But Remnii’s room has more pillows and conventionally soft things. The room is illuminated with crystals. Samaara’s doesn’t have a mirror. Remnii mills around her room for a second. Vel hears Remnii approaches her for a hug, but stops herself.

Remnii says: Vel.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes?

Remnii’s eyes are glassy.

Remnii says: Thank you.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I hope you like it.
Remnii says: I do. May I give you a hug?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes.

Vel opens her arms in anticipation and the two hug.

Samaara says: It seems you underestimated how much Remnii dislikes camping, Velameestra.
Remnii says: I never wish to complain, but I am looking forward to a bed much more then I can say. Enough that I am crying about it. Okay, I’m going to go clean up. Thank you, it’s perfect.
Samaara says: It’s plain that your mastery of true magic has grown even more so then when we first met. This is quite amazing, thank you.

Vel nods in appreciation and continues to the portal again to direct those that wish to see to the third floor. She looks nervous about it.

The portal itself on the third floor looks like it’s coming out of a boulder. The entire third floor looks like it’s a grove. There are little fairy lights around. There are other trees growing up into the ceiling. Basically the edges of this room opens up into sky that is also able to change like the bedrooms. There is a pond with the sound of peeping frogs. The sound of a living wood is in this room. Jarod recognizes there is a boulder that looks very similar to the one on top of the mountain. When he opens it, there is a cutout of what she remembers of his hideout.

Jarod Shadowsong says: You didn’t.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I did.

A soft sad smile appears on his face.

Jarod Shadowsong says: This is really nice, Vel.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I took inspiration from various places. Mainly the Eversong Woods in Quel'thalas as well as some of the pine forests up north. I just thought forgoing the snow might be preferable. I know people aren’t as fond of winter as I am.

Tol’vas has never seen some of the trees like these.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I hope this works for everyone.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: This is incredibly well thought out.
Uther Menethil says: I’m having a hard time what impresses me the most.
Remnii says: I can’t stop crying, so you’re good.
Riff says: This is so nice, are we gonna stay up here mada?

Seria nods.

Riff says: I’m gonna go find my rock then! This is so nice!!!

His tail has shown up at this point.

Riff says: What was the word again, Vel?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Ocuir.
Riff says: OCUIR! Oh this is so cool!!

Riff then changes the sky several times.

Velameestra Windrunner says: But that’s everything. I could only fit three floors.
Remnii says: Only…
Jarod Shadowsong says: Well this is more than I ever expected. And if you can’t see this thing from the outside this will be the perfect place for us to hide during patrols.
Velameestra Windrunner says: The doorway is invisible as long as I will it to be. Unless someone is walking around with powerful forms of vision, we shouldn’t be found.
Jarod Shadowsong says: Well hopefully that won’t be an issue. I guess we should talk on that business before we get too comfortable, because I will get too comfortable.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I suppose we can speak in the study.
Elissa Cross says: Hey Riff, while they’re talking do you wanna jump on my bed?
Riff says: DO I???

He grabs Elissa, transforming into his Blood Serpent form and flies down through the hole. Elissa squeals happily.

The group files their way down into the study, and Jarod sits down.

Jarod Shadowsong says: This is very comfortable. So. What did you have to talk about?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Well… on top of Remnii, we’re going to be running into some other issues.
Jarod Shadowsong says: What kind of issues?

Tol’vas sighs.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: For one, I was exiled to the Dream.

He looks to Vel.

Velameestra Windrunner says: And… I’m undead.

Jarod blinks.

Jarod Shadowsong says: I think I might be missing some context. This Dream business. It has to do with the druids, right?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Yeah. It’s the other realm, essentially. The one they draw their magic from.
Jarod Shadowsong says: So were you a prisoner or something? I know about the Barrow Deeps, but I didn’t know they imprisoned people in the Dream as well?

Tol’vas gives a brief summary of the War of the Satyr and the worgen.

Jarod Shadowsong says: I… did miss a lot, didn’t I? So, this pack form was too dangerous, but you and your circle decided not to listen and got afflicted with this worgen curse? And you got yourselves imprisoned for thousands of years?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: That’s the short of it.
Jarod Shadowsong says: Certainly something. Sounds like it was similar to the event where they imprisoned the Betrayer. But you are here now. How recognizable are you? Are you a well-known face?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I would be to Tyrande.
Jarod Shadowsong says: Alright. Well, you’ll have to adjust to this worgen thing, and Staghelm will likely know of this, so you’ll want to have a pretty good defense before you get there. I can vouch for you as best as I can. Neither you nor Arthas seem to be slathering beasts, but my word is only so good. I’m not sure how much I can get for you. Fair warning, his granddaughter… I saw her briefly, she will be there as well. They’re… they’re paying respects to Fandral’s son. He passed away during another war. Fandral’s granddaughter is a Warden. For context, for the rest of you, Wardens are the core of the sentinels. If you consider the Sentinels the guards and military force of the night elves, the Wardens are jailers and enforcers. The Watchers are the organization as a whole that are in charge of, well, keeping the dangerous elements of the forest at bay. Keeping them locked away in the Barrow Deeps in the mechanisms they have. The organization is led by the Wardens, and elite strike force led by my older sister Maeiv. She was a priestess until she became a Warden and their leader. I don’t know much about them personally, but they take their job very seriously. Maiev is no exemption. I don’t know if I can help beyond giving my own testimony. I hope that’s enough, and with luck we can avoid you getting carted off by this Warden.
Remnii says: These warnings mostly came that transparency in all this would be important for you. You going out of your way to help us, and being as generous as you have been already, Jarod, keeping secrets will not be making friends here, and you deserve more than that for all you’ve down.
Jarod Shadowsong says: I appreciate that. That does bring me to what you said. You said that you were undead, what exactly do you mean?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I died and was risen in undead. Specifically, a vampyr. I’m not detectable by conventional means. I have defenses against that. But I cannot enter places without invitation. And I... feed on blood specifically.
Jarod Shadowsong says: Huh. That’s why you didn’t sleep while outside of the mesa?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I cannot sleep outside of one of my resting places. So, if I am not within one... it is what it is.
Jarod Shadowsong says: Well first off, my condolences. I’m glad you… recovered?
Velameestra Windrunner says: You don’t need to worry about it. It was my choice. There’s a lot of other context pertaining to other Highborne. Though it doesn’t pertain to your people. That’s... more a struggle for across the sea right now.
Jarod Shadowsong says: Well. I can’t speak to what everyone will say. But I can make some guesses. At baseline you don’t have anything to worry about from me. I don’t even know what that means. The best reference I have for that is stories I heard as a kid about vampires and the like. Even those I thought were fairy tales. But they were also terrifying creatures of the night. And you’re not… as far as I’m concerned you’re a good person. You’ve gone out of your way to help a lot of people. And look at this. You’ve offered your impressive skills to house someone you’ve known for a couple of days. So if you’re worried about me, don’t. That said. I don’t speak for the rest of my people. I don’t know how they’ll respond if they found out. But from what I know about the exile of the highborne, I’m not sure if I could put money if they’d be more upset about the fact that you’re this impressive of an arcane spellcaster or that you’re a vampire. I’m not sure. So it seems to me that’s another struggle you’ll need to surpass with time. And I would not have known if you didn’t tell me. While I appreciate the transparency, if you believe it to be impossible for them to detect this without a great deal of effort then it may be best to keep that information to yourself. You’ll already have to prove yourself as a highborne. From there, I suppose you can hope that your credentials will speak for themselves.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It shouldn’t be hard to hide unless your priestesses have a tendency to splash people with holy water.
Jarod Shadowsong says: Not that I know of. But you may want to stay away from the moonwells. I don’t know if those would count? But if anything would count as that, they would. As long as you stay away from those, you’ll be safe.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I’ll endeavor to do that.
Jarod Shadowsong says: I appreciate you telling me. It may not be wise to frontload that information, but I can promise to vouch for you.
Velameestra Windrunner says: We have a few days to talk and work out our metaphorical battleplan in that regard. As to what should be frontloaded and what not should be.
Remnii says: Yes.
Jarod Shadowsong says: Our best bet would be to travel as inconspicuous as possible. I would say we should move slowly so that we can move stealthily. But if we do that we’re likely to draw attention then we would be if we were to just move like a group of traveling on the road. With your magic, that should be possible. It is some distance to get there. If we’re traveling on foot, it will about two weeks. As long as you can maintain this magic, that should be doable. We may be also able to rent some form a transport we can use along the way.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I should be able to maintain it without a problem.
Jarod Shadowsong says: Very well. It will be a bit of a hike, but it shouldn't be too much. If all of you are willing we can start early in the morning.

The group agrees. He goes to Remnii.

Jarod Shadowsong says: I know this is a long distance to travel by hoof. If you need to rest at any point, I’m sure Bard will carry you. He may complain, but he will do it.
Remnii says: Thank you for your kindness. I’m good at walking, just not down hills. Or mesas.
Jarod Shadowsong says: There are some hills to be had. We’ll be traveling through some of the more traveled areas. We should find some elves along the way. As long as you play it safely, it should be okay.
Remnii says: Thank you.
Jarod Shadowsong says: Of course. I just want to help.
Remnii says: You already are.

Jarod claps his hands together.

Jarod Shadowsong says: Very well. Everyone rest up. I suppose we’ll be able to rest along the way with these accommodations along the way. But we’ll still need to be on our guard.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Which, if you’re hungry I did try to emulate your kimchi recipe as best I could.
Jarod Shadowsong says: I’ll have to try it.

He goes to politely ask a servant where the kimchi is, where the servant replies he can get it for him. They go back and forth, Jarod wanting to get himself so as to not trouble the servant. He gets into a short debate with the creature before finally relenting.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I should note that they’re not actually living people, they’re conjurations of magic.
Jarod Shadowsong says: I was starting to get that sense.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I assure you I don’t have 100 people living in here that I just conjure to be servants.
Remnii says: I would be impressed in a different way.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I believe the word for that is horrified.
Jarod Shadowsong says: So these people are just you then?
Velameestra Windrunner says: They’re a manifestation of my magic, so in a sense they are part of me.
Jarod Shadowsong says: Well. I need a bit of booze to understand this.
