September 11th

Back in Karazhan, Seria had been working with Elfyra to do some last-minute druidic rituals to work on nourishing the soil in the otherwise dead scape of Deadwind Pass, which was a project that was meant to teach Elfyra the druidic magics. Seria had set up for Riff to stay with Elfyra to help out.

Elfyra finished writing up the list of instructions Seria had for care of her son, which was largely formed by a series of questions Elfyra had asked.

Elfyra says: You don’t have to worry about anythin’, darlin’, I’ll take care of everythin’ and I’ll keep trying to foster this gift you’ve been teaching me. It’s pretty incredible! I had never even thought I could do anything like this before.

Seria nodded, quite certain that Elfyra would be fine. Riff came over to give Seria a big hug.

Riff says: You promise you’ll be safe, right mada?

Seria gives Riff a reassuring look, and Riff nods.

Riff says: I promise I’ll stay out of a lot of trouble… I’ll even help out around the house!
Seria says: You better.

Riff smiles.

Riff says: You bet!
Seria says: If I dream her and you’re not behaving–
Riff says: I will! I’ll play nice with the other kids in the village, I promise. No biting! I don’t want to get in trouble again…

Elfyra laughed.

Elfyra says: Besides, grown-ups tend to solve our problems with words! Even if it might be a little tempting to bite sometimes.

Elfyra gave Seria a wave.

Elfyra says: Hopefully the tree out back will be tough enough for what you need it for, darlin’.

Elfyra had managed to nurture a single apple tree in the dead soil, and fortunately, it seemed to be enough. Seria gave a nod, and she was transported to the tree that had been designated in Gilneas.

The group had gathered together with the Northgate rebels in preparation to leave to head to Greymane Manor, and in preparation for Seria’s arrival, who had stepped through the tree at that moment, disguised as a high elf.

Darius Crowley says: So this is the last one of your crew that’s coming along for this beast of a ride? You said you had something to talk about?
Celestine says: So you’re a druid as well, ey? You’re not from Gilneas.

Celestine looks at Seria curiously, as did Halford and the others.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Well, keeping to the trends… things are not always as they appear.

Seria’s skin ripples just long enough to reveal her true form, and Crowley tenses up for a moment and bares his fangs instinctively.

Darius Crowley says: I see… so you’re one of them. Is that so?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Half, technically. And not old enough to have seen the wars.

Crowley glanced over at Tobias and Halford.

Halford Ramsey says: Fascinating disguise. You had me fooled entirely! Seems you have an impressive array of tricks up your sleeve.
Celestine says: Well, given the circumstances, we have invited a creature of the night, a demon masquerading as a forest spirit, and all number of other individuals, no less…

She glanced at Luma.

Celestine says: A being from a distant star. A victim of the last war is not something to blink at, given the circumstances. I welcome it. I believe there’s much we can learn from each other.

Tobias nods and scratches his chin.

Tobias Mistmantle says: No complaints from me. If you folk trust her, that’s as good as it’s gonna get.
Darius Crowley says: Strange that this might be the toughest pill to swallow, but you’re right. We aren’t ones to point claws given circumstances. I’ll let everyone else know the situation. You shouldn’t have to hide who you are while you’re here… plenty of us have shame to go around. Not fair for us to hold the sins of your father or mother or whoever against you.
Seria says: Good to know. But I’ve never been ashamed of who I am.

Tobias smiles in approval, while Celestine gave a supporting nod.

Celestine says: I do believe it would be wise for us to get moving. I look forward to know you more on the road, if you’d be willing to chat.

The night spent in the mansion, Luma had requested a shooting range in one of the spare rooms of requirement, and a sleek shooting range with some crystals had materialized. There was a series of pop-up demons that could materialize.

Vel offers to just make them look like real demons, and Luma considers, and expresses that, maybe later, but it would probably be better to be more fake for the general folk. Instead, Vel materialized them to just look like stained glass demons that would shatter on impact so that Luma and Tobias could have a place to show off their weapons.

Luma gave Tobias a crystalline pistol first.

Tobias Mistmantle says: …alright.

Tobias held up the weapon and closed one eye as he aimed it at one of the targets. The barrel of the pistol started to glow as it charged up a crystalline lattice, and a bright, prismatic light shot from the tip and fired into the target. It left a hole straight through the stained glass. Tobias’s eyes widened and he spun it around and took a few shots.

Tobias Mistmantle says: I could get used to something like this!

Luma loaded up Tobias’s gun and fired it, but it immediately got jammed.

Tobias Mistmantle says: oh. It got jammed. It sometimes doesn’t go off right, and the barrel gets clogged. Let me fix it for you.

Luma took off their glasses and started to clean them as they mouthed “jammed?”

Tobias Mistmantle says: Yeah. Gunpowder charges explode. Sometimes it gets all mucked up like getting sand in your boot–

He looked at Luma’s hooves.

Tobias Mistmantle says: Like getting something stuck in your teeth.
Liiraluma says: Fine. But who wants a weapon that “jams” or clogs”?
Tobias Mistmantle says: Because it can kill a man from 20 paces?

Luma gestures at their gun.

Liiraluma says: How do you live like this?
Tobias Mistmantle says: Well excuse me! I don’t even know how this thing fully works. I ain’t not artificer here! Try again.

He handed the weapon to Luma and they shot it again, and this time it was a solid connection. But there was a solid kick-back Luma wasn’t used to.

Tobias Mistmantle says: I can go get a rifle and that will send you reeling.
Liiraluma says: I can show you a rifle. Go get yours.

Tobias nodded and came back with a rifle and a blunderbuss. Luma withdraws a sleek, crystalline rifle with a split barrel. Tobias lifts the rifle and whistles.

Tobias Mistmantle says: Now this is something real fine…
Liiraluma says: Thank you!

Tobias gives a look that is a silent “can I shoot this?” and Luma nods proudly. Tobias aimed and the weapon began to charge up the energy and rippled with prismatic, purple energy before it fired a solid beam of arcane energy that completely disintegrated the target.

Tobias laughed and promptly looked for a means to reload the rifle. Luma strolled over and put a hand on the rifle.

Liiraluma says: Empty battery. My magic sustains it.
Tobias Mistmantle says: Damn. That’s useful.
Liiraluma says: Good to go!

Tobias fired the rifle again.

Tobias Mistmantle says: Handy feature! Best make sure this thing doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.

Luma tried Tobias’s weapons as well, and they had an intense kick-back, but there was a certain charm to the smell of gunpowder and killing by causing an explosion that ricocheted something small at someone way too fast.

September 13th

Elite Gilnean guards had gathered to back up Liam in their gold and black armor and tabards. Most of them also had guns.

Liam Greymane says: You were the ones causing all the ruckus by the net. King Liam Greymane. Start talking.
Uther Menethil says: Your majesty. A pleasure. I am prince Uther Menethil of Lordaeron.

Liam’s brow raises.

Liam Greymane says: Uther Menethil? What are you doing here in the middle of our forsaken country infested with monsters and beasts?
Uther Menethil says: Ah! It’s been a long, strange trip with no shortage of monsters and beasts. To put it bluntly, we’re here to help.

Liam smirked and looked at the motley crew.

Liam Greymane says: And how do you explain the curious traveling companions? I’ve never seen a creature like you before. Are you some kind of demon?

He looks at Luma, who laughs.

Liiraluma says: No! I mean, I’ve never seen pink fleshlings that turn into wolves, but here we are!
Liam Greymane says: I’m not in your home.
Liiraluma says: No, but my home now! Draenei.

Luma offered a hand, and Liam looked at it.

Liam Greymane says: We’ll reach that step if I come to a conclusion you can be trusted.
Liiraluma says: Bane to all demons.
Liam Greymane says: And three elves, one of which that seems to be of the same type as the worgen that besiege us. Care to explain yourself?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Is there an explanation that will satisfy you?
Liam Greymane says: I’m a reasonable man. After all, you’re not full of silver yet.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Short of it, is I’m trying to deal with your worgen problem as well.
Liam Greymane says: I’m sure you have your own reason.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Of course.
Liam Greymane says: And…

Liam looked at the two other elves and the phantom steeds.

Liam Greymane says: Your curious steeds.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Magic. They’re illusions.

Liam gestures to one of his riflemen, who shoots Tobias’s steed. It didn’t budge, and Tobias laughs, but then the steed fades and Tobias falls to the ground with a grunt and a curse. Some of the guards laugh, and Tobias gets back to his feet and dusts himself off.

Liam Greymane says: Magic indeed. You seem to be quite gifted. What’s your name?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Velameestra Windrunner. I’m an arcanist of the Kirin Tor.
Liam Greymane says: I see. A member of the Kirin Tor *began* this problem, you know. Do you truly believe you and your companions may have a solution?
Velameestra Windrunner says: There are always solutions to problems… and from what I understand there is presently a shortage of mages looking into it, yes?
Liam Greymane says: You’re well-informed. Concerning in its own regard. But not unwelcome, should you prove to be allies.

Vel smirked.

Velameestra Windrunner says: You can say I have a sense for magic.

Liam looked over the rest of the group, and Halford Ramsey stepped forward.

Liam Greymane says: Ramsey. Good to see you’re still well. When you vanished some years ago I began to assume the worst. How did you survive?
Halford Ramsey says: Your majesty, one does not make a career like mine without learning to survive. You’d be surprised what you can make a fire from! Anything you can fine. Despite how gloomy and dreary our home is, there is an abundance of kindling.

Liam nods.

Liam Greymane says: I see. It’s good you’ve returned to us, and in the aid of some strangers and some not so strange.

He looked at Tobias.

Tobias Mistmantle says: Tobias Mistmantle. At your service.
Liam Greymane says: You supported the Northgate rebellion?
Tobias Mistmantle says: Aye.
Liam Greymane says: Well. No sense in me digging up grudges when we hardly have control of the territory to begin with.
Tobias Mistmantle says: Wisely put!

Liam looked around the group and then gave a nod to the other guards.

Liam Greymane says: Arms down, men. These people can be trusted, for the time being. They are to be welcomed and watched while they are here.
Gilnean Guard says: You heard his majesty!

The guards go off to inform the other people in the manor and village and Liam approaches to give Uther and Luma handshakes.

Liam Greymane says: Welcome to our humble hideout in this kingdom gone mad. I would offer you a grand feast, but I dare not risk the strain on supplies with winter approaching. Not to mention, we aren’t in a great situation to be doling out celebrations.

Liam gestures for the group to approach the manor, and they saw the grand manor with the popup town around it. There were 100s of people squished into the fortress, and it was hardly a comfortable place, but there were soup tables out trying to feed as many people as possible as well as people being trained with simple spears and collectors roaming around asking for silver of any sort. There are children running around playing, and young folk attempting to peddle services. One young lad approaches Tol’vas and offers to shine his shoes, but then notices that Tol’vas isn’t wearing shoes.

Urchin Boy says: Um. Shine your scythe? Mend your clothes?

He then looks at Uther.

Urchin Boy says: Shine your greaves, sir?

Tol’vas just reached into his pocket, pulled out 8 gold, and gave it to the boy. The boy smirks, but then has a look of confusion, and then surprise.

Urchin Boy says: You sure about this, sir?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Is… that a lot?

He looks at Vel.

Velameestra Windrunner says: That’s quite a bit, yes.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Oh. Well, you already have it.
Urchin Boy says: Well if there’s anything you need, sir, I’m at your service! I was just asking for a tip, but I think you got me covered!

As Vel looks around, she notices the boy had been glancing over at Vel. Then what he said clicks as she recalled what Wrathion had told her.

Velameestra Windrunner says: If you're looking for a tip, beware the shadows in the sky.

The boy homed in on Vel at that point.

Urchin Boy says: Aye. That does seem like a good tip. I’ll keep it in mind. If there’s anything you folks need, look me up later, aye?

The boy flipped one of the coins between his fingers, and it disappeared. He then headed off, but Vel caught him glancing back at her a few more times.

Vel opened the telepathic connection she had established when they approached Gilneas and informed the group that the boy seemed to be the contact Wrathion had informed them to keep an eye out concerning the black dragon involvement.

Tol’vas Moonshadow says [telepathic bond]: Oh. I just thought he fancied you.

Vel chuffed.

Uther Menethil says [telepathic bond]: How very fortuitous.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathic bond]: Something to look up later.
Tobias Mistmantle says [telepathic bond]: Can’t blame him. She’s quite a looker.

Vel rolled her eyes.

Halford Ramsey says [telepathic bond]: Wait, one moment, going back a bit… dragon, you said?
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathic bond]: Yes… one of our tertiary interests is the present of a black dragon agent in Gilneas.
Halford Ramsey says [telepathic bond]: Dragons… interesting. Just what we needed.
Liiraluma says [telepathic bond]: I have a question. In the week before we arrived, I spent time in the library, and the mentions I found of dragons outside folklore and fairytales said they were quite rare.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathic bond]: Given their ability to shapeshift, that may not be entirely accurate.
Liiraluma says [telepathic bond]: Huh. So, I should keep an eye out.
Halford Ramsey says [telepathic bond]: Sorry, going back. They can shapeshift??

Both Vel and Tol’vas confirm again.

Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathic bond]: They can look like most humanoids, I believe.
Halford Ramsey says [telepathic bond]: I was certain they existed, but I had never seen one.
Liiraluma says [telepathic bond]: There seems to be a discrepancy in the information given in your books. Noted.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says [telepathic bond]: There used to be a lot more of them. When I was younger.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathic bond]: Which was what… about nine thousand years ago?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says [telepathic bond]: More like ten thousand.

Ramsey just blinks as he stares at Tol’vas and Vel.

The group continued to follow Liam deeper into the pop-up town and towards the manor on the cliffside.

Liam Greymane says: I imagine the lords would want to speak with you. I suspect Godfrey is already aware of your approach, but I’ll alert the others so that we can discuss what your curious group has to offer. But runners can take care of that.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: We have quite a bit to offer, actually.
Liam Greymane says: I imagine that’s the case given your colorful group. But, I’d be happy to have any of you to join me for tea. It’s not very potent. We’ve had to cut our supplies and steep it at half strength, but I would like to hear further explanations. The lords are going to certainly have their own questions for you, but I would hear your full story before them, all the same.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I don’t think it’s necessary for you to expend resources on our behalf, but we would be happy to discuss with you regardless.

Liam nods.

Liam Greymane says: Perhaps in better circumstances, once the castle has been reclaimed and this nightmare ends, we might be able to show you true Gilnean hospitality. But for the time being, we have little in terms of supplies.

They approach the manor, and the door to the manor opens. They see a flicker of after-light on an older gentleman’s glasses. He has two pistols on his hip, and he greets Liam.

Bespeckled Man says: Ah, your majesty, glad to see the strangers aren’t a threat.
Liam Greymane says: Quite so, Master Godfrey. Seems we have rather esteemed guests. His highness Uther Menethil, as well as his contingent.

Godfrey looks over the group.

Vincent Godfrey says: Charmed, I’m sure. I’ll see to it the other lords are gathered. I imagine they would like to speak with our guests.

His gaze hovers on Tol’vas.

Vincent Godfrey says: And find out how they found their way to our front gates. I’m sure their help would be most welcome. Vincent Godfrey, at your service. One of the last lords of this ravaged land. Master Greymane, unfortunately our guest has been resistant. She still claims to cling to her story, and what little remains of her senses seems to be slipping by the day.
Liam Greymane says: I see. I’ll speak with her again soon. I shall decide what to do with her. Much appreciated, Godfrey. I’ll speak with you and the others soon.
Vincent Godfrey says: Of course, your majesty.

Godfrey gives a nod to Uther as he passes, and quietly speaks.

Vincent Godfrey whispers: Master Menethil, I do hope your lord father is doing well.
Uther Menethil says: I’ll pass on your well wishes.
Vincent Godfrey says: Good to hear.

He passes Tol’vas and mutters to him.

Vincent Godfrey whispers: I’ll be watching you, elf, if that even is what you are anymore.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I’m lots of things. Just like you.
Vincent Godfrey says: Hold that tongue, boy, or it’ll be the first thing I remove.

Godfrey walked past them and continued down the path away from the manor. Seria and Vel, however, had both noticed what the lord had said, despite the quiet volume of his tone.

Uther Menethil says [telepathic bond]: I can’t put my finger on it, but there’s something about that man I don’t like.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says [telepathic bond]: He doesn’t like my tongue.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathic bond]: He threatened Tol’vas as he passed by.
Uther Menethil says [telepathic bond]: Hm. Finger has been put upon it.

Tol’vas mused he wasn’t particularly impressed with the threat and stated that he could just grow his tongue back, but Uther assured him that such a thing hadn’t been the point.

Liam leads the group into a study, which had been repurposed into an office and war room. Right now it was empty, and there were not many servants around, primarily just soldiers and common folk that were offering to help where they could to make some money. Liam takes a seat and flips his top hat over to a hat rat.

Liam Greymane says: If I had any whisky to offer you, I would, if there was any left after I drank it myself. So what’s the real story? About why you are here?
Uther Menethil says: I told no lies. We are here to help. If you would like more than that, I would ask you what you know about the world outside your wall.
Liam Greymane says: Terribly little, unfortunately. Our contact has been negligible at best. I presume the troll wars have come to an end, favorably I imagine.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: You don’t know how the war ended?
Liam Greymane says: How would I? We had a revolution that rolled directly into an apocalypse.
Uther Menethil says: Yes, the war is over, another almost began, but we stopped it. By we, I mean mostly present company. However, we are likewise facing a catastrophe worse than any troll war could hope to be.
Liam Greymane says: What breed?
Uther Menethil says: Our world is under attack. Now. What you may have heard me say is the Eastern Kingdoms or Lordaeron, but no, our entire world is besieged at this very moment by an army of demons from beyond the stars. Quel’thalas has fallen–

Liam glanced over at Vel.

Uther Menethil says: And the last update I received, they have the Eastweald. Their advance has been slowed, but not stopped. To make matters worse, we have reason to suspect that high king Daval Prestor is, perhaps, not who he claims to be–
Liam Greymane says: Pardon me, high king? What do you mean high king? That’s not a position I’ve ever heard of.
Uther Menethil says: In the wake of the catastrophe, the leaders of the Alliance met and elected a high king. Before any documents could be drawn, he fractured the Alliance by bringing the Dark Iron dwarves into the fold, which caused Ironforge and Stormwind to leave.

Liam makes his way to the other side of a desk and sits down with a sigh.

Liam Greymane says: Perhaps I’ll send someone to a storehouse to see if I have some whiskey after all. I can only imagine what my father would say, were he here.
Uther Menethil says: Ideally, we’ll learn exactly what he has to say, because I intend to speak with him. But outside these walls, our world is splintered and fractured.
Liam Greymane says: Inside them as well. So, this army of demons, this high king, Stormwind seceding and the dwarves going with them. Sounds like you have quite a situation, yet you’re here. I presume it’s because you hope to garner our favor. My father is no friend to Prestor, and it sounds like you aren’t either. Unfortunately, I cannot promise anything on the behalf of Gilneas, until we can bring our nation to a place where people are safe, and I don’t even know if my father can save himself.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: He can.
Liam Greymane says: You speak surely, Master Tol’vas.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I haven’t earned that title.
Liam Greymane says: Very well, Tol’vas, you have the floor.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: The worgen can regain their faculties, should they want to.
Liam Greymane says: How did you come about this?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Because I met with them.
Liam Greymane says: You met with them.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says [telepathic bond]: Should I tell him I was one of the first ones now?
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathic bond]: The question is more whether you want to explain it now, or risk it being pressed when the other lords are present.
Uther Menethil says [telepathic bond]: perhaps a demonstration is in order?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says [telepathic bond]: Perhaps not. I’d rather not be full of silver.
Uther Menethil says: Well, at the very least, your majesty, the precedent exists for those afflicted to this curse to become who they were. Our quest would have led us here even if we didn’t require aid against an extraterrestrial foe.

Liam’s eyes flicker to Luma.

Uther Menethil says: I seek no promises. Whether or not you offer aid will not change what we want to do. I hope that I might be able to convince you of the reality that the threats we face are not ones we will survive without banding together. As of this moment, Prestor and the Burning Legion vie for dominion over a ruined world of ash and gore, and it will take nothing less of the totality of Azeroth’s strength to defeat them.

Vel had noticed Liam had tensed up against the underside of the table, likely a silver-coated weapon. However, he pulled his hand back as he listened to Uther, and he leaned back.

Liam Greymane says: Alright. Let us say, for a moment, that you have a way to give worgen a fighting chance to reclaim who they were. What’s your next step.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: We need to kill Alpha Prime.
Liam Greymane says: Alright. That’s something I can get behind. That monster has transformed my home into a wasteland where only strength rules. If the situation is as grim as you say it is beyond the walls, Uther, well… we’re going to need as much strength as we can muster if we are going to survive, regardless of what Gilneas decides to do. In response to your information. Let me make something clear. I believe you. At the very least, I believe you believe these things. My condolences.

Liam looked at Vel again, briefly.

Liam Greymane says: I also believe high king Prestor is using this advantage. If what my father said was to be believed, he was convinced the man was a power-monger, and one that was using tragedy to create opportunity.
Uther Menethil says: Absolutely.
Liam Greymane says: My father was a man of a great many opinions, many we didn’t see eye to eye on, but his intuition was rarely wrong. I don’t know what led him to lose control, but if you believe you can find a way to reach him, then I will do what I can to help you do that. This nation needs its king. And… I’ve lost enough of my family over the years.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Your mother… your mother was present at the council. She was on her way back to Gilneas.

Liam froze and looked at Vel.

Liam Greymane says: My mother? She’s alive?
Velameestra Windrunner says: She and Tess both.

When Vel said Tess’s name, the excitement in Liam’s eyes faded a bit. It almost seemed as if he wasn’t surprised, and there was an air of trepidation in his voice.

Liam Greymane says: Is that so?
Velameestra Windrunner says: You don’t seem surprised by your sister.
Liam Greymane says: In a sense. Tell me. What did my sister tell you? Did you speak with her?
Velameestra Windrunner says: She traveled with us for a time. She said that she and her mother and Krennan… who unfortunately passed, though it was at least peacefully, were sent beyond the wall when the outbreak started.
Liam Greymane says: I see. I am… I hope that Krennan found peace, may the Light protect him, though one might envy him given the circumstances of our nation. The woman you had traveled with was not my sister.
Velameestra Windrunner says: She was an imposter?
Liam Greymane says: Yes. Some months ago, a woman arrived here. Alone. She claimed that she was Tess, that she was my sister. But I could tell she was lying.
Velameestra Windrunner says: How so?

Liam stood up and moved through the room toward a drape that he pulled aside to reveal a family portrait that looked to have been painted shortly before the troll wars. Tess looked like she was six or seven, Liam looked to be close to Vel’s own age, and Mia and Genn were also younger.

Liam Greymane says: Her skin tone was slightly different. Her hair parted differently. It was also lighter, more of a chocolate brown instead of black. Additionally…

Liam gestured to the face of the young girl.

Liam Greymane says: Her nose was a slightly different shape, and this so-called Tess had a beauty mark under her left eye, one that my sister never had. While some of these things could be explained as natural aging and growth over two decades, it was too much. She was hiding something from me, not to mention her being a worgen…

Liam continued to look at the portrait.

Liam Greymane says: She’s in our dungeons now. She refused to cooperate and tell me who she really is. Or what happened to my sister.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Would you be opposed to us speaking to her? She traveled with us. If that was all a lie, she may be willing to explain to familiar faces.

Liam took a deep breath.

Liam Greymane says: Godfrey would not be pleased.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Given our first impression, I get the sense Godfrey wouldn’t be pleased about most things.

Liam chuffs.

Liam Greymane says: You met him for a fraction of a moment, and yet you have such a firm grasp on his character. He’s one of my father’s most loyal and staunch supporters. But he is… a man set in his ways. Like many Gilneans. I believe he finds a sick satisfaction when it comes to putting down the beasts our former kinsmen have become. Even so, without his guidance and leadership, our home would have crumbled long ago.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Then perhaps it would be prudent for us to speak with her now before the lords assemble, yes?
Liam Greymane says: I shall not stop you. Nor shall the guards. But if anyone asks, I was unaware you had decided to speak with her.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Of course. Our little secret.
Uther Menethil says: Your majesty, are you, or are you not king of your people?
Liam Greymane says:: I am keeping the seat warm for the time being. Godfrey, likewise, believes my father is beyond saving, and even should he be returned to his senses, consideration should be made about his fate. I can’t say I disagree, but he is still my father. So long as my father draws breath, I am king in name and deed, but not in creed.

Liam turned back to the group.

Liam Greymane says: Do not mistake me. I take this responsibility seriously.
Velameestra Windrunner says: These people are your people.
Liam Greymane says: I’m glad you see that.
Uther Menethil says: Before we speak with Tess. Something that you must be prepared for… you and your subjects, including those that regain their personhood, are going to have to unite. Azeroth will be destroyed if we cannot stand together as one.

Liam closed his eyes for a moment.

Liam Greymane says: Then lets hope this cure of yours proves effective. We can bring it to the lords, see about proving it, and take a step toward reclaiming our kingdom.
Uther Menethil says: For the purposes of clarity… this cure doesn’t make a person not a worgen. It just allows the person to control the beast.

Liam’s shoulders shrink ever-so-slightly.

Liam Greymane says: I see. I can’t say that’s a satisfying thing to hear…
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: It’s not enough that they are them?
Liam Greymane says: That’s not what I’m saying. Our people have their way of life ripped out from under them. Family, friends, colleagues have been transformed into fairybook monsters. I don’t think our people will be satisfied with the knowledge that they can lose that control again. That there is a hunting mastiff chained to every ankle…
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Then you must understand something. Everyone has a beast inside them. These ones are just more literal.

Liam takes a step back.

Liam Greymane says: Then perhaps I have more to learn about myself as well. Nonetheless, I am grateful you’ve all come here. I’m hopeful that what you say is correct.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Also, I think, for the sake of clarity, I was one of the progenitors of the curse.

Liam sighs.

Liam Greymane says: I suppose that explains why you’re interested in helping.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: There are a lot of wrongs that need to be righted.
Liam Greymane says: Appreciated. But keep that a secret from the rest of the nobles. For now at least.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I thought it right for you, at least, to know.
Liam Greymane says: I appreciate that. Now run along. Tour this place before prying eyes start asking questions. You’ll find her in the cellar. It’s been repurposed into a dungeon. Unfortunately the chaos has not done much to reduce the crime… some make their own situations better by taking from the less fortunate. I’ll speak with you again once the lords have been gathered.
Uther Menethil says: Very well. We’ll be on our way. Your majesty, for what it’s worth, nothing you or your people have gone through… reconciling with the worgen will take strength, but I believe you are all capable of it. Until next we speak.

Liam leans back in his chair as the group leaves, and he pulls out a locket and looks at it, then sighs.

The group makes their way into the cellars. The royal guards do not stop them, but tells them to make it quick.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Has Godfrey been around for a while?
Gilnean Guard says: Aye. He’s an old noble house. He’s been a staunch protector of the crown for a long time. Why do you ask?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: To know what I’m dealing with.
Gilnean Guard says: Well get gabbing then get going. You don’t have much time.

The interior of the manor is quite nice, despite everything. They head down into what used to be a wine cellar, and it was turned into a dungeon. There were a few humans around in various makeshift cages. Several of the prisoners ask the group to let them out and are making excuses for their crimes. They are directed to the cage that contained Tess.

Curled up in the cell, much like she was in the dream, was Tess, in her worgen form. She still had her clothing, but all her weapons had been confiscated. Tess winced as the torchlight fell into the cell, and she whimpered.

Testament Greymane says: Wha… you? No! Why’d you… I told you to leave me! In the dream I said to forget about me.
Velameestra Windrunner says: And we didn’t. And we’re here.

Tess whimpers and cries, and she seems to have lost herself to the curse a bit.

Velameestra Windrunner says: We need to talk to you, Tess, is that alright?
Testament Greymane says: Why? Why did you come back?
Velameestra Windrunner says: You’re our friend. You needed help.

Tess covered her eyes with her claws.

Velameestra Windrunner says: We spoke to your brother.

Tess winces.

Velameestra Windrunner says: You are Testament Greymane, right Tess?
Testament Greymane says: I… no. I’m not who you think I am.
Uther Menethil says: I don't suppose you feel inclined to tell us who you are then?
Testament Greymane says: If I tell you… they’ll kill me. But maybe that would be for the best. After everything I’ve done. After I lied to you. I lied to everyone. I lied to… to mother. No. To Mia…
Velameestra Windrunner says: I trust you had a reason.
Testament Greymane says: I had to. I had to.

Over the telepathic bond, Vel asked Tol’vas if he had a way to calm Tess down to maybe shed some of the feral effects of the curse. Tol’vas confirmed he did, and he channeled magic through the scythe and created a calming aura around them. The worgen’s haggard breathing and demeanor calmed.

Testament Greymane says: I… I took her place. When I was young… my mother and I were on the run. From the worgen. One of them bit me. But we didn’t know what that meant back then… we found the queen. We found the princess. My mother fought with her. I don’t know what about. But then we traveled together. She told me that she was going to be her lady in waiting, and I was supposed to be the same for the princess. We looked similar. We were both young. Maybe nine. We became friends and spent a lot of time together… for that first month it was nice… we didn’t have a home. But it was nice because it wasn’t just me and my mother. She was always so worried. But then the night of the full moon came. Me and Tess were watching the sky, and I woke up and she was dead, and it was my fault. Krennan was the only one that knew. He found me. He found out what happened. He told me that the only way to ensure me and my mother were safe was to pretend to be her… that Tess had gotten bit and turned into a worgen instead. So I did. I lied to my mother. I lied to the queen. I lied to you. I lied to everyone. My real name is… Lorelei. Lorelei Carver. Rafia was my mom. But she thinks I’m dead too. Now I’m just a fraud. A waste of space. But no matter how much I pray and beg for it to have been me instead of her, it's not. It looks like the jig is finally up. I know it doesn’t mean anything, but I’m sorry. For lying to you too.

Uther was stunned speechless.

Velameestra Windrunner says: You were a scared child. Krennan was the one that told you to do this. Thank you for telling us now.

Lorelei whimpers.

Vel reached out over the telepathic bond again.

Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathic bond]: If Liam finds out about this, it’s going to be bad.
Uther Menethil says [telepathic bond]: Unfortunately there are only two outcomes. Either he learns the truth, or he does not.
Liiraluma says [telepathic bond]: So this all sounds kind of fucked.

Luma had taken a position just outside the cell and was leaning against the doorway. Many of the other prisoners were far enough away they couldn’t hear anything, but they were looking at the draenei completely stunned, as they had no idea what they were.

Liiraluma says [telepathic bond]: There always tends to be a way these things come to light. I’m not saying tell her to fess up or whatever, but if more than two people know a secret, it’s out. The Krennan guy is dead, but there is now several of us, so that’s more than two.

There is more of a brief discussion over the telepathic bond over what can be done, which ranged from both appealing to things from an emotional angle, or a suggestion by Halford Ramsey that, if Vel had magic that could confirm lineage, as she had briefly mentioned over the bond, they could always try to fake the results. Unfortunately, Vel confirmed the only way to fake such results were contingent on her ability to directly lie, and she was not optimistic about her chances, both because she wasn’t a good liar to begin with, and because Liam was a cunning man on top of it.

Focus then shifted toward the possibility of talking to Mia and Rafia first, however, they had not yet arrived, with both Ramsey and Vel determined was passing strange given that, if they had headed from the council in Lordaeron toward Gilneas, they should have arrived by now, even if they were traveling carefully.

Vel asked Seria if she could borrow her scrying bowl, and Seria said she could. Then Vel looked over to Tess with a reassuring look.

Velameestra Windrunner says: We’ll figure this out, Lorelei.
Lorelei Carver says: You don’t have to. It’ll be easier to just let them kill me. I should have died back then anyway.
Velameestra Windrunner says: You were a child who was listening to the advice of her elder. This isn’t entirely on you.

Lorelei gave a very sad, desperate look and then covered her face with her claws and curled up again. The group left the cellar before they were discovered and they sought out a quiet, secluded area in one of the courtyards where they wouldn’t be disturbed.

Seria produced the scrying bowl, and Vel poured water into it and began to channel her magic into it as the group looked on. The water clouded for a moment, and then began to clear.

They hear the unmistakable sound of a carriage riding down the road. They see Mia, safe and healthy, and wearing a cloak. They are in the interior of the stagecoach, and sitting across from Mia was Rafia Carver, Mia’s lady-in-waiting.

Mia Greymane says: Wait… how long has it been since I’ve seen Liam?
Rafia Carver says: Twenty years.
Mia Greymane says: You haven’t been counting, have you?
Rafia Carver says: I don’t need that from you right now.

Mia chuckles.

Mia Greymane says: Imagine his surprise when he sees you rolling up of all people.
Rafia Carver says: Cut it, you’re going to laugh. Your cackle can be heard from a mile away, and we are going into worgen territory. So can it.
Mia Greymane says: Is that any way to speak to your queen?

Rafia chuckles and Mia frowns.

Mia Greymane says: Do you think Tess made it?

Rafia’s smile fades.

Rafia Carver says: I don’t know. If she did, I’d be surprised if Liam even recognized her. It’s been so long. She was just a little girl.

Rafia trails off and looks out the window.

Mia Greymane says: It will be alright.

Mia put a hand on her leg.

Mia Greymane says: He’ll be happy to see us. We’ll talk all of this through. And then, once we smack some sense into the nobles whispering their agendas in his ear, we’ll help Genn, and we’ll find out what happened to your father. You hear me, Lorna? Look at me.

Lorna glanced over at Mia.

Lorna Crowley says: Alright, but if your husband causes problems with my dad, I’ve been practicing my aim, so I hope it doesn’t come to that.

Mia chuckles.

Mia Greymane says: After all the chaos my darling has put our kingdom in, the last thing I’ll do is let him cause you problems. I have such an earful for that man.

The duo continues riding in the carriage as the scrying fades, and through a gap in the curtains, Vel was able to recognize a landmark that marked the path as the one they had followed earlier that day. They were on the way to Greymane Manor, and would probably arrive before the end of the day.

Velameestra Windrunner says: They’re very close. If we inform Liam, he may be able to send an escort to ensure they arrive safely.

However, Vel got the sense they were being watched. She immediately turned, and around the corner of one of the buildings, she glimpsed the boy from earlier. He dipped back around the corner as she turned in his direction.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I saw you. If you want to talk, now is as good a time as any.
Urchin Boy says: If you don’t mind… I’ll ask what your name is first.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Velameestra.
Urchin Boy says: You’re lying.

Vel frowned.

Velameestra Windrunner says: What makes you say that?
Urchin Boy says: Because, she’s supposed to be dead. It can’t be you.

The boy’s voice cracked, as if he was trying to choke back tears. Then the boy came around the corner, and he took off his hat, which revealed two pointed ears–those of a half-elf. As Vel took a closer look, his face shape, his nose… the dirt had made it hard to tell, but the young half-elf man, who had started to ball up his fists, was one she recognized. Her eyes widened in shock.

Velameestra Windrunner says: …Galadin? What... what are you doing in Gilneas?
Galadin Windrunner says: What are you doing here? We buried you. They said you were dead. How-?

Galadin raced over and barreled into Vel as he wrapped her into a hug and buried his face into her shoulder. He was about as tall as Vel was now. Vel instinctively wrapped her arms around his shoulders.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I’m sorry Galadin, I…
Galadin Windrunner says: I don't care! I don’t care anymore. You’re alive. You’re here. You knew the words… you know Wrathion?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes. I do. How do you know Wrathion? Where have you been? Your father is worried.
Galadin Windrunner says: It’s… a bit of a long story. Okay. So. First off. You’re not allowed to be mad at me.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I’m not. I could hardly… I’m just glad you're alright. I want to know what happened.
Galadin Windrunner says: So, after you died… or we thought you died, dad started to really focus on his work. Once things were starting to kick up… everything started to fall apart. Giramar had an opportunity. One of his tutors was called to the front lines, and he wanted to go so he could see mom. And so that maybe he could start trying to become a Spellbreaker. He wants to learn. He wants to be able to be there for mom after everything that happened. I got mad, because I wanted him to stay, so we got into a fight, and he left anyways. So I left too. Remember that knife?
Velameestra Windrunner says: …Relhana’s dagger.
Galadin Windrunner says: Yeah... I found them after the dragons attacked their hideout. And I made a deal with her, seeing she wanted it back. I’d give it back if they gave me some way to help and learn. So here I am. She introduced me to Wrathion. He’s… insane, he’s amazing. I don’t know how he’s… it’s like he could see three steps in the future. He knew what I was going to say before I said it. So I said I’d help him. Right now that’s me looking into things here and trying to find out where these secret agents are. I haven’t taken any risks. No one’s going to pay attention to another kid.
Velameestra Windrunner says: How long have you been here?
Galadin Windrunner says: A couple months. I know dad’s probably pissed, but I don’t care. Mom’s off fighting. Giramar’s off learning how to be a Spellbreaker, dad’s a member of the council, I’m not going to sit around and do nothing. Just go to school and let everyone else get themselves killed. If I can help Wrathion’s schemes happen, even just a little? It’s worth it.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Hmph. Truthfully I’m more cross at him that he didn’t tell me it was you.
Galadin Windrunner says: He didn’t?
Velameestra Windrunner says: No, he didn’t.
Galadin Windrunner says: He has a twisted sense of humor, ha ha!

Vel and Galadin hugged again.

Galadin Windrunner says: I’m glad you’re here… Gil didn’t really kill you, right?
Velameestra Windrunner says: No. He didn’t. He couldn’t if he tried.
Galadin Windrunner says: Heh. That’s what I said too. So. You’re here to try and help take care of their black dragon agent they’re looking for, right?
Velameestra Windrunner says: That’s at least part of it.
Galadin Windrunner says: I’ve learned a few things. Luckily I’m not alone either. Creed. Hiram Creed. He’s one of the nobles. He knew the passphrase too. He’s been a huge help. With his help, we’ve been able to narrow it down to this camp.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I suppose that would make sense… Creed was actually a contact given to us by the Northgate rebels. He’s playing both sides, so I imagine he’s well-connected. If the black dragonflight is trying to make a play in Gilneas, operating out of their last bastion would give them the best opportunity.

Galadin nodded.

Galadin Windrunner says: You can trust Creed. He knows what he’s talking about. I’m not surprised to hear that he has contacts in the resistance though. If he knew the passcode, Wrathion probably set him up too. Sometimes it seems like he knows everything.

Vel smirked.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Wrathion is a cunning young man.
Galadin Windrunner says: Yeah, he is.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Do you have a role model now?
Galadin Windrunner says: What? No! That’s stupid.

Vel raises an eyebrow.

Galadin Windrunner says: What? Don’t give me that.

Galadin flicked her eyebrow and Vel recoiled slightly in surprise.

Galadin Windrunner says: He’s charismatic and… I don’t need to explain myself to you!
Velameestra Windrunner says: Alright, well then I suppose when we have the chance to meet with this Hiram Creed we can start to make a plan.
Galadin Windrunner says: Yeah, I’d say. If you’re going to meet with the lords later, he’ll probably be there.
Velameestra Windrunner says: All in one place. Convenient. I welcome your help, but… when this is all done, Galadin, I think we should probably *both* tell your father we’re alright.
Galadin Windrunner says: I… okay. But I’m not stopping. I’ll go back, but I want to keep helping. However that is. Even if it’s just in Dalaran, I want to keep helping Wrathion and Relhana.

Vel smiled faintly, though it was slightly pained.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Well. If Rhonin is going to get mad at you about it, he’s going to need to get mad at me too, so.

Galadin smiled.

Galadin Windrunner says: He’s going to be so happy you’re still here. So what happened? Where have you been?
Velameestra Windrunner says: As a… quick summary. We were on another continent. We escaped through the Shadowlands, and that’s where we were let out.
Galadin Windrunner says: Wait like… where dead people go?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Where dead people go. We spent a day there. Unfortunately that translated to about six months here.
Galadin Windrunner says: Shit…
Velameestra Windrunner says: I’ll fill you in later.
Galadin Windrunner says: Okay.

Galadin hugged Vel again.

Galadin Windrunner says: I’m so glad you’re alright. Oh. You should probably know about something that happened… at your funeral. Strange as it kind of is, something… with auntie Alleria.
Velameestra Windrunner says: And Arator...
Galadin Windrunner says: Do you already know?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yeah... I do.
Galadin Windrunner says: Okay. I probably should have guessed that.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I promise I’ll fill you in on everything later.

Galadin nodded. Vel made some quick introductions to the rest of the group so that Galadin knew who else he would be dealing with, though of course he already knew Uther and Elissa. He was *slightly* bashful around Elissa. Galadin informed them he was going by Gillian around the camp, and he put his hat back on to cover his ears, gave Vel one more hug, and then headed off.

Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Velameestra. You were downright affectionate.
Velameestra Windrunner says: He’s family. Is that really so surprising?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: A little.
Velameestra Windrunner says: We should probably let Liam know his mother is on the way, if he wants to send someone to meet her. The path isn’t the safest.
Halford Ramsey says: Knowing his majesty, he’ll likely want to ride out and meet her himself. Um. Are we telling him about the Lorna Crowley business?
Velameestra Windrunner says: That… that’s not even something we’re supposed to know. The only reason we do is because they didn’t know we were watching, I imagine. It’s probably wise we talk to them privately first. Especially seeing Lorna… would be Lorelei’s mother, then.
Tobias Mistmantle says: Fair. But when we go back to the forest I’m telling the big guy. He deserves to know. Though she may want to tell him herself anyway. Either way, he’s going to be thrilled she’s still alive.

How complicated the situation with Lorelei actually became, as that would make her the grand-daughter of Darius, fully dawned on the group, and they decided to take it one step at a time and just focus on getting Mia and Lorna to camp safely first.

When the group finds Liam again, they see him with another tall, imperious noble wearing nice clothes near the kennels with the hunting hounds. The dogs were torn because they like Tol’vas and Elissa instantly, but don’t like Vel. Liam tried to calm one who was howling and barking. Houndmaster Shaw was nearby trying to calm the dogs as well, and Tol’vas kneels down to calm them down as they are trying to warn Elissa and Tol’vas about Vel.

Liam Greymane says: Ah! Uther and company, most of the nobles have been gathered. This is lord Creed.

The gentleman nodded.

Hiram Creed says: Pleasure! Lord Hiram Creed, leader of the Blackhowl Company and Gilneas patriot. I hear you’ve come to our rescue.
Uther Menethil says: Ah. Rescue is probably a grand–
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Nah I think that’s the right word.
Uther Menethil says: We’re here to help.
Hiram Creed says: Regardless, we’ll take the strong backs we can get. I would like to talk to you all later, of course, but business is business, don’t want the lords to think they’re being left out.
Liam Greymane says: Come now, Creed, lets not speak about our peers that way.
Hiram Creed says: I’ll speak about our peers as I want, your majesty. But duly noted.

Hiram Creed tipped his hat and offered a smirk. Vel turned to Liam.

Velameestra Windrunner says: We wanted to inform you that your mother is on the way.
Liam Greymane says: I beg your pardon?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Your mother is on her way. She’s on the passage heading toward the manor.
Liam Greymane says: Are you certain?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I scryed on her myself. When it became obvious she hadn’t arrived, I got concerned.

Liam laughs softly.

Liam Greymane says: That’s incredible! Hiram. Tell the others the meeting is going to be postponed. We are going to ride out and make sure she gets here safe.
Hiram Creed says: Duly noted.
Liam Greymane says: What are we waiting for? I’ll get some of my best riders and we’ll head out. You saw where she was coming from. Would you all be so kind as to join us?

The group agreed and Liam immediately raced off to get a small group together to ride as Vel focused on manifesting another set of phantom steeds. Before long, they had set off down the path.

They didn’t ride for too long, as ultimately they were riding to meet a carriage that was heading in their direction.

Liam Greymane says: How did your conversation go in the dungeons?
Uther Menethil says: A conversation, perhaps, after we’ve retrieved your mother.
Liam Greymane says: Very well! Keep your secrets. You’re lucky I’m excited to be reunited with my mother after two decades or I’d be pushing more!
Velameestra Windrunner says: Well given it involves your mother’s daughter…
Liam Greymane says: Fair point. You ride well, Uther, who taught you?
Uther Menethil says: I was spoiled for amazing teachers. My father being one, the other was Marshal Falric, an absolutely legend in the saddle.
Liam Greymane says: I had the fortune of watching him in a jousting tournament before the war when I was a boy. He was a legend even then!

Uther’s face drops.

Uther Menethil says: Yes. He was a good man.
Liam Greymane says: Forgive my asking, but you had a sister, yes?
Uther Menethil says: Two actually.

Liam smiles.

Liam Greymane says: How fair they and your lady mother?
Uther Menethil says: I miss them all terribly. It’s been a while since I’ve seen them. Ashwynn is a skilled combatant, and Lianne is young, but a purer soul I don’t think I’ve found. Shortly after the conflict with the Burning Legion, my mother went away on a mission and we haven’t heard from her since.

Liam’s brow furrows.

Liam Greymane says: I can’t make any promises on behalf of Gilneas, but if you can help you out of this bind, the least I can do is ensure you get reunited with your own mother. That’s a promise from me. Liam. Not the kingdom. Not the prince.
Uther Menethil says: At the risk of sounding like a virtuous, grandstanding young paladin, I would have you pay it forward rather than back. Our concerns should be for our people rather than ourselves.
Liam Greymane says: A noble calling, Uther, but some word of advice. If you let your title consume who you are, you’ll forget why you have it in the first place.
Uther Menethil says: Yes. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.
Liam Greymane says: And sometimes the heaviest crowns are the ones that are invisible.
Uther Menethil says: It’s a fair bit more complicated than all of this, but at the end of the day, what I want most is for as many people to be as happy and safe as possible.
Liam Greymane says: That’s a hard ask at times, as nice as it sounds. But not impossible.
Uther Menethil says: And as long as I can ask it, I believe I should.

Meanwhile, Tol’vas is having a conversation with Valorinn.

Valorinn says: These people live complicated lives.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: They complicate them themselves.
Valorinn says: Why?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I don’t know.
Valorinn says: Do you complicate your life?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I think… everyone complicates their own life. It’s part of living.
Valorinn says: That doesn’t sound very appealing.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: It’s what causes change. Otherwise nothing would.

Valorinn growls softly.

Valorinn says: I sense the truth in your words, but it just makes me angry.

Tol’vas laughs.

Valorinn says: Are you laughing at me? Don’t laugh at me. I’ll throw you off.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: No. That’s just a fair response. Besides, you’ll scare the humans.
Valorinn says: Good. They can use the fear. It will keep them strong and sharp.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: But then you’d be complicating things.

Valorinn growls again.

As the group rides, suddenly they see Liam squint and slow up his horse.

Liam Greymane says: Something is wrong.
Uther Menethil says: What do you mean?
Liam Greymane says: Something on the air.

Suddenly, the group heard what sounded like a loud banging, and the breaking of wood. The ground trembles, and a war cry echoes out from over the horizon.

Liam Greymane says: Damn. Sounds like ettins. We need to go. NOW.

The group urged their horses forward and they continued to head toward the carriage. Before long, they could see the carriage tumbled on the side of the road, and large, gangly giants brandishing clubs and jagged blades were emerging from the forests and mountains in all directions. The skies were filled with smaller creatures that were swarming like hunting hawks. A gunshot went off, which only momentarily scattered them. They looked like gangly deer, but they had wings, and their legs ended in gnarled claws, with a face that ended in a beak: perytons.

Seria and Tol’vas recognized them and knew they were predatory animals, but they did not normally swarm like this. It was likely they had been trained in some sort by the ettins.

Vel drew her blade and called to Uther, and they promptly disappeared in a flash of arcane magic as she used [Dimension Door]. Tol’vas and Valorinn likewise disappeared as they leaped through a tree as Tol’vas used [Tree Stride]. Seria transformed into a massive bear and bounded forward.

As Vel and Uther appeared in the middle of the conflict, they saw the carriage had been upended, and in the canopy of the carriage was Mia and the carriage driver, who seemed to be unconscious. Mia herself was taking shelter and actively performing CPR. They also saw Lorna in the grip of a massive ettin as the massive creature laughed.

She looked over as Vel and Uther arrived.

Lorna Crowley says: Glad you could join the party.

She grabs a pistol from her boot and shoots the ettin’s fingers off. As she dropped she kicked the ettin in the face and knocked it out cold, which made it tumble over the ground. As she landed, she grabbed her rifle and raised it to take aim again.

Seria barreled onto the field and rammed into the nearest ettin with a massive, raking strike. The ettin roared in pain, and Seria raked into him again. Valorinn barked and charged at the ettin nearest to the tree he and Tol’vas had leaped through. Valorinn raked into the ettin and chomped into the ettin’s leg.

As Mia looked over at the new commotion, her eyes widened.

Mia Greymane says: Uther? You’re alive!?
Uther Menethil says: Yes! And I would like to keep it that way. You as well!

Uther ran over to interpose himself between Mia and the ettins and he reached down and put a hand on the coachman, which staunched the bleeding enough to stabilize him. The coachmen looked blearily up at Uther and screamed, but then realized Uther was on his side.

Uther jumped up on the side of the carriage and looked up at the ettin.

Uther Menethil says: I don’t suppose you’d be willing to talk this out?
Right Ettine Head says: No talk! Only take!
Left Ettin Head says: That’s my line!

The ettin punched himself in the other face.

Uther Menethil says: Well. I had to try.

Uther shook out his shoulders and then swung his hammer around, which successfully knocked the ettin in both his heads. He then banged his shield with his hammer, which started to glow with golden light.

Tol’vas conjured his elemental magic and lines of silvery fire started to race along the ground and erupted beneath several ettins, before it rapidly faded away, leaving the natural growth unscathed. He then conjured the spectral image of a bear that roared and invigorated his allies.

Vel took a quick step from where she materialized and flipped her blade around. It was coated in magic, and she then disappeared as several copies materialized over five different ettins. The illusions struck, and then shattered as her blade collided with a strike of force, before she rematerialized right where she was before.

In the distance, Liam fired a shot to offer some covering fire, and Lorna spun around to protect Mia as well. She fired at a peryton, but the bullet ricocheted off the creature’s flesh. Lorna cursed and asked if the group could take care of the fliers, and they confirmed.

Tol’vas conjured a spiritual weapon, which took the form of a wolven wisp and then bit into the seeming leader of the ettins. Liam took another shot, and an ettin’s head explodes as it falls to the ground, dead.

Liam Greymane says: Be gone from these lands, foul beasts!
Lorna Crowley says: Nice shooting. Liam.

Liam stops and looks as he fires another shot, which grazes through a peryton.

Liam Greymane says: …Lorna? What are you–
Lorna Crowley says: We’ll talk later! Take those things out of the sky!
Liam Greymane says: Right!

He shot again, and this time the shot landed solidly in the gut of the peryton he had been aiming for. However, more ettins had charged in and another ordered for them to attack and retrieve Koroth’s banner, whatever that was. More perytons also swarmed the skies.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Blast it.

She touched something on her hip and uttered an incantation in quietish as necromantic magic swarmed around her and whipped her coat around. Her eyes glowed with an otherworldly aura, and spectral chains floated around her wrists as skeletal wings grew from her back. She raced at the ettin Valorinn had engaged with, and struck into it, which cut through its throat and it fell to the ground. She then spread her wings and took off into the air and blasted a peryton out of the sky with a [Frostbolt].

The ettin vanguard that had just arrived charged at Lorna, and she ducked under the club, but it went toward Mia instead. However, Uther used his magic to deflect the strike to him.

Ettin Vanguard says: What?! I smashed you!?

The ettin looked dumbly down at Mia, who’s eyes were wide in fear, but she shrugged with a nervous smile.

Luma rode up on the phantom steed as she took aim and fired her disruptor rifle into the back of the ettin berserker. A hole was burned into its back, and he howled. Luma then deployed two of their turrets from their bag of holding. They resembled arms that were slightly less ornate than their current prosthesis, but they seemed to be early proto-types. It pointed a finger gun at the same ettin and blasted it.
