June 9th
It’s a drizzling morning as the group wakes up, but to the north--in spite of the dreary weather--the Bravewind Mesa is ringed by a cloudless sky, a rainbow visible, as Magatha had fulfilled her promise.
The group prepares breakfast, and Reno, Syeori, and Li Li gather their things to head off.
Reno Jackson says: Looks like this is where we part ways for the time being!
He shakes hands with Uther.
Uther Menethil says: It was a pleasure to travel with you.
Reno goes through the rest of the group and thanks everyone and bids them goodbye. Syeori approaches Vel.
Syeori Sunwalker says: Hey Vel, it was nice to see you again. I’m glad that you were able to fill me in, and I hope everything will be alright--yeah, it will, by the end of this. Besides they’ve got you there to look out for them.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Someone has to.
Syeori chuckles.
Syeori Sunwalker says: I’ll see you again soon.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Good travels.
Syeori holds a hand out, which Vel takes. Syeori bids farewell to everyone else as well.
Li Li gives everyone a deep bow.
Li Li Stormstout says: Thank you for showing such hospitality on the road! I hope all my encounters will be as kind as you!
She gives another bow.
Remnii says: Thank you for your help also. We’ve made it this far so easily because you were all here to help.
The trio takes their leave, and Syeori looks a bit hesitant, but Li Li pats her on the shoulder and says some things quietly to her, and she nods and they trot off after Reno to find Baine and the caravan heading towards Thunder Bluff.
Aramar Thorne says: Well, off they go, and I guess you guys will be too before too long, yeah?
Remnii says: The weather there…
She points up at the mesa.
Remnii says: We cannot waste time. Stay safe.
Aramar Thorne says: I should say that to you, we’ll just be in the area. But we’ll fill you in on anything we find.
Remnii says: We’ll touch base when we come back.
Aramar Thorne says: You sure you’ll be okay up there?
Samaara’s eyes are boring into Remnii’s back, but Remnii smiles.
Remnii says: While it is not my strong suit, I believe it is important I put my best hoof forward.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Plus we’re flying up there anyway.
Makasa smirks and approaches Remnii. She withdraws her flask and holds it out to the priestess.
Makasa Flintwill says: For some courage. Might be needed.
Remnii says: I… will. But you will laugh at me.
Remnii takes a sip from the flask. She coughs a bit.
Remnii says: Honestly, that was better than expected, but still burns.
She hands the flask back to Makasa with a smile. Makasa gives the rest a nod and takes a swig of her flask.
Tae’shara idles over to Vel, prattling away.
Tae'shara Sunwatcher says: And if you find anything interesting, take notes about it. This could be a valuable opportunity to learn a whole bunch about the tauren culture! So spare no expense!
She continues to give some pointers of archaeology tips, and what to look out for. Vel just allows her to talk until there’s a lengthy enough pause that she can get a word in.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Have you… ever seen my notes?
Tae’shara laughs.
Tae'shara Sunwatcher says: I know! But you can’t be too certain, ey? But just be safe, alright?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Don’t get into trouble.
Tae'shara Sunwatcher says: I’ll do my best. But we’ll see what we can learn here.
Vel gives her a nod, and Tae’shara gives her a pat on the shoulder. Broll, Samaara, Riff, and Wulf gather what they are taking up to the Mesa.
Broll Bearmantle says: When you are all prepared, we are ready as well.
Remnii says: Well. Is everyone good to go?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I don’t think any further preparations can really be made.
Elissa Cross says: Wait!
Elissa looks like she had just rolled out of bed, scrambling out of the tent.
Elissa Cross says: I didn’t miss you guys! Thank goodness.
She casts power word fortitude on the group to give them some additional buffer. She gives some hugs, and bids them farewell.
The tauren market had started to bustle again, walkways covered with tarps and colorful banners to shield it from the rain. The group heads out of Dalsh-Beran and continues north.
Remnii says: We are flying up, yes?
She looks at Tol’vas. Tol’vas shrugs.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Yeah.
Remnii says: Would it be easier to fly now, or when we get there?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: It lasts for a full day’s travel, but we can wait until we got closer to ensure we don’t wander into winds that will put us somewhere else.
Remnii says: We’re counting on you.
She offers a smile. They travel for about two hours into the area where the weather breaks. They see various creatures in the distance, and as they step out of the shadow of the cloud cover, they see the exact point where the clouds break into sun. They can see the lower hills of the Bravewind Mesa start to rise up into the massive mountains. On the larger cliff faces, there are ornate paintings that are thousands of feet in every direction--likely made by the tauren.
While they were traveling, Vel veers closer to Wulf, and as she does, she undoes something around her neck. It’s a necklace--the smaller, gold chain she always wore--which she holds out to Wulf.
Velameestra Windrunner says: You may want to wear this, by the way.
Wulf squints and takes the necklace.
Wulf says: ...a necklace?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I understand it’s not really your style, but it prevents divination magics from being used on you.
Wulf says: ...what’s that mean?
Velameestra Windrunner says: It means people can’t spy on you using magic.
Wulf says: People can spy on me using magic?
He has an expression of exasperation and annoyance.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes, and given you were a person of interest to the black flight, I imagine they may attempt to do so before too long.
Wulf sighs loudly and closes his eyes, but slips the necklace on.
Wulf says: Thanks. I guess. You sure it’s alright? This means that people can probably spy on you with magic now.
Velameestra Windrunner says: There are very few people that have reason to believe I’m active, and the ones that do, I don’t care if they do.
Wulf says: Well. Guess that’s good.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Once we figure things out, I’ll take it back obviously, but for the time being.
Wulf says: Yeah. Look. You don’t need to do any of this… stuff. But you did, so, thanks.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Of course.
Wulf says: I don’t know if Arthas was close with you or not, so I don’t know what a proper thank you would be, but... yeah.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Generally just a thank you and some corny joke. That tended to be the extent of it.
Wulf chuffs.
Wulf says: You’ve got to be kidding me.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Watch Uther’s humor. You’ll pick up on what yours was.
Wulf rolls his eyes.
Wulf says: Maybe it’s for the best I lost my memories!
It was clearly a poor attempt at a joke. Vel chuffs in amusement.
A bit later, Tol’vas also approaches Wulf.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Wulf.
Wulf says: What?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Tonight when we camp we should start talking about, well, your curse.
Wulf looks straight forward again.
Wulf says: Yeah. Guess we should.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: It’s going to be important to understand it so you know how to control it.
Wulf chews over his words for a second.
Wulf says: Guess I’ve got you to thank for that, don’t I?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: It wasn’t my intent. I know that doesn’t mean anything, but… I do apologize. But those are just words. The best I can do is help you mitigate it and take on as much responsibility as I can.
Wulf makes a growling noise.
Wulf says: Yeah, guess if I don’t take you up on that, I’ll just make the same mistakes you did. Can’t have that.
Tol’vas chuffs.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I’d be impressed if you could.
Tol’vas lets him chew on that. Wulf periodically glances back at Tol’vas, but more frequently, he is looking at Uther. However, Tol’vas’s eyes also catch Broll, who was listening to the pair. Broll gives Tol’vas a solemn nod, but doesn’t say anything else.
On occasion, Remnii was mumbling to herself, trying to sort out her greeting to Jarod. Samaara approaches her.
Samaara says: Would it help if I aided you in roleplaying this out?
Remnii says: No no no, I think somewhere between the climb and the state we find ourselves…
She looks up at the mesas.
Remnii says: I should be fine. Once I get going, I am normally fine, but I think I’ve been thinking about this too long.
Samaara says: At least with the strength of our companions, you will not need to physically climb.
Remnii says: I would be doomed without the help that we have!
Samaara says: No offensive Remnii, I don’t know how we would have managed it. You…
Samaara looks at Remnii’s arms, and Remnii immediately crosses them to partially veil her (very non-muscular) arms from view.
Samaara says: ...don’t seem like the kind who would excel at such things, though I admit I have never watched you climb anything.
Remnii says: You… should not watch me climb anything!
She and Samaara laugh.
Remnii says: I have faith that this will work out, but also, I would have to find a way up there.
Samaara says: A word of advice, flight or no, don’t look down.
Samaara pats her on the shoulder and gives it a gentle squeeze.
As they break into the sunlight, Vel and the night elves start squinting, but meanwhile Remnii takes time to enjoy the sunlight.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I believe Jarod was looking for a plant, actually.
Remnii says: It seems like he was looking for a number of things. I’m actually carrying a piece of cloth he had requested, thus we will be making a delivery.
Samaara says: Yes, Elissa and Aramar said Jarod was seeking water blessed by spirits as well.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I believe I can find that with a spell.
Samaara says: Convenient. Perhaps that will help when we get closer and search for some clues and track where his whereabouts are, and perhaps this herb and water as well.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Alright. Well, the rest of us ready then?
Wulf shifts his weight.
Wulf says: How does this work again?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: You turn into a cloud and can shift between both forms as you wish.
Wulf says: Fine, I’m as ready as I will be.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: It’ll be fun!
Tol’vas uses the wind walk spell, and the group takes their misty cloud-like forms. They take off into the sky and fly up higher and higher. A gentle breeze greets them instead of stormy winds. They can see trees poking up from the side of the mesa, and caves as well as grasses and beautiful flowers. After about an hour, they find a good spot to rest for a moment so that Tol’vas can commune with nature.
As the group shifts back, Wulf appears crouching.
Wulf says: I’m never going to get used to that...
Samaara, however, is starting to get used to it.
Tol’vas uses commune with nature and looks for swiftthistle, influence from other planes of existence, and bodies of water. He gets a bead on the swiftthistle within about a mile of the group on the western-facing cliffs. He gets a fairly strong sense of planar influence about three miles to the northeast. It seems to be subterranean. The body of water seems to be in the same area.
As Tol’vas is performing the ritual, the group hears movement around them. Vel makes eye contact with Seria, Remnii, and Samaara as well a Wulf. There are movements in the low brush, and there are creatures starting to encircle them.
They appear to be wolves.
It’s hard to get a bead, but it seems to be just under two dozen. Seria can tell that they seem to be sizing the group up. The larger ones start to creep forward.
Uther uses the magic of the hammer to make his voice loud and makes some loud noises to try and spook them off. Samaara disappears, and Wulf lights his axe on fire to also try to spook them off. Seria uses druidcraft to make the sound of an injured animal behind the wolves. Tol’vas turns into a dire wolf and starts growling, while Vel makes bright flashing lights with prestidigitation and Remnii also aids her.
Many of the wolves’ eyes dilate and they sit up and back away. The leader tries to hold his ground, and he growls, but the group is clearly not easy prey, and they opt to flee.
Samaara peers back from around the tree and un-nocks her arrow.
Samaara says: I suppose that works as well. Good work everyone.
Broll looks to Tol’vas.
Broll Bearmantle says: What did you find?
Tol’vas shifts back to his human form.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I found water underground that is touched by something, but I can’t tell what for certain. The swiftthistle, however, is just a mile that way.
He points.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: That’s both our leads currently.
Samaara nods.
Samaara says: I suppose we have a choice. We can either get the swiftthistle, or we can investigate this otherworldly presence, or look for more clues to Jarod’s presence.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: We may be able to just do both.
Remnii says: Given the swiftthistle is not underground, we can likely check there first. Going into one of the mesas may be more trying than scoping out and flying over.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: It could be a bunch of undead for all we know. Like last time.
Tol’vas shrugs.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Are we intending on collecting these things for him, specifically?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I would like to gather the swiftthistle. Not for Jarod necessarily, but the very nice tauren lady that gave me food.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Well, I suppose the swiftthistle is both closer and more easily accessible.
Remnii says: That is what I was trying to get at.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Follow me then.
They turn into clouds again and head off. Tol’vas heads toward the western cliffside and they fly around. It’s hard to tell where the plants are initially, but they see yellowish green, long grasses that are likely the plant they are looking for. Some of the plants aren’t fully grown, but they can pick it out without too much difficulty.
The group lands on a precipice to discuss, and Samaara and Vel offer to climb down to collect some of the swift thistle after they are tied off to Uther and Broll. They are able to extract a moderate amount, and it takes about two hours or so.
Samaara is watching Vel as they help each other collect the herbs.
Samaara says: You’re much better at climbing than I thought you would be, Vel.
Velameestra Windrunner says: You learn some things over time.
Samaara nods.
Samaara says: I know there are magics that can aid you in such things as well, I’ve seen them. But I am impressed. You seem to have a trick up your sleeve for just about every task we encounter.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It comes in tandem with being a mage. Though admittedly, I would not know what I was doing in this instance without your expertise.
Samaara chuffs.
Samaara says: I am fortunate to have encountered Kilnar. Otherwise I would not have been set on this path.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Chance reunions abound on Kalimdor.
It’s clear that Samaara is watching Vel’s movements as she walks her through the things to look for.
About 20% of what was gathered wasn’t actually swiftthistle, but it was edible. Tol’vas and Broll opt to replant the incorrect gatherings so they could take root again.
Samaara says: What would we like to do next?
Remnii says: I’m not particularly good at these sorts of things, but are there ways to see if anything else has passed through here?
Velameestra Windrunner says: We could try to scry on Jarod and see if we can note his location that way.
Remnii says: That would not be a bad idea. While I do not have scrying prepared…
She looks at Seria.
Remnii says: I could help in the aftermath.
Samaara says: What should we do first?
Remnii says: Vel is right. We could likely cut out the middle man if we are able to scry on him.
Seria starts to focus on Jarod as she pulls out the scrying bowl, and it starts to grow foggy, but then it clears again, indicating the scrying had failed.
Remnii says: He is likely anticipating our arrival, but it was worth a shot.
Velameestra Windrunner says: We could at least try to determine a direction with something like commune.
Remnii says: Well. I don’t have commune prepared, but I could pray to the naaru to see perhaps… if we do not find him today, I could prepare it tomorrow. But I will be back in a moment.
Remnii goes to pray to the naaru for the location of Jarod Shadowsong. She closes her eyes and focuses, and she finds herself drifting in listless light, and then she feels herself pulled through some sort of magical guidance. She moves, drifting through the trees and cliffsides, and she is drug into a corner to the east. She is pulled into a cave, and in that cave, she sees a stream of bright blue water. Inside are two female tauren. Both of them are completely white of fur: one has their eyes closed, the other completely open and bright white.
Then she is pulled out and around a house with a low wooden roof, which is surrounded by a small number of trees. Outside, she sees large sacks that are filled with down and stuffing and rough leather. There are claw marks in some of them, and there is a large basin of water, as well as a large nightsaber--it’s the one that Jarod was traveling with. He is drinking from the water, and then he looks up as Remnii is pulled upward again, and she can see the highest mesa and rolling plains. She can hear soft breathing, and she can see a massive totem far in the distance.
And then Remnii’s eyes open.
Remnii makes a small noise and sits back on her palms to catch her breath.
Velameestra Windrunner says: ...did you see something?
Remnii says: I saw a great number of things. The Light and the naaru have provided for us this day.
Remnii smiles earnestly. As she turns to face the group, Remnii can hear the faint harmonic song of the naaru pointing her in a specific direction.
Remnii says: There are two tauren spiritwalkers. I was able to find the water that Jarod was likely looking for, and two tauren were there. I saw his house, but he was not home. He was in a higher place. But with some landmarks, I think I can lead the way. But I believe we have our direction, and I can hear the song of the naaru leading me to the pool.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Your naaru are leading us to the cave anyway?
Remnii says: If it is the one you sensed earlier. But there are two women there now. We should be careful, it looked like they were undergoing some sort of ritual. We should be aware of that on our approach.
Remnii’s tail is wagging faintly.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Then it looks like we have our next location.
The group changes into their mist form and they head towards the cave that Remnii had seen in her vision. It’s a simple cave, and there is a simple tauren tent outside draped inwards toward the cave.
The group starts to approach slowly, and they don’t have to go very deep until they start to see the glow of the water. They can see the two tauren, as Remnii did in her vision. The one facing the group has her eyes closed, and the one with her back to the group likely has her eyes open. They standing up to their waist in the water, and the group can hear a gentle trickle of water.
They don’t seem to notice their presence.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Their bodies might be here, but their spirits may be elsewhere…
Remnii nods in agreement.
Remnii says: Well, I feel I would be remiss to simply take what we need and leave. It seems like this should be done correctly… but…
She taps her chin.
Remnii says: I’m afraid I don’t know.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: If they were connected to the Emerald Dream, I have ideas, but I don’t know.
Wulf says: We could just shake them awake or something.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: That seems rude.
Wulf shrugs.
Remnii says: I am worried if we disturb the body, then something may happen.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Velameestra, can you see what magic they are using?
Velameestra Windrunner says: ...Mm. Yes, and I suppose this would be faster.
Vel conjures Arkha’din, and his eyes immediately go to the water. He gives his Mistress a pleading look, but she mentally commands him not to disturb it.
She sees through his eyes and she can see the tauren that has her eyes closed is emitting an aura of necromancy, while the other one permeates divination, and the pool has abjuration. After examining them for a moment, Vel returns to her own senses and gives Arkha’din a casual scritch beneath his chin.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It would appear that the pool itself is abjuration. The tauren with her back to us is radiating divination, and the one with her eyes closed is emitting necromancy.
Vel also instinctively checks the tattoo on her rest, but she notes that it’s not glowing, thus there does not appear to be any detectable undead nearby.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: So how do you wake up dreamers?
Remnii says: Or at least make them aware they are here.
Tol’vas looks over at Wulf.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Without hitting them or touching them.
Wulf says: It would work, that’s all I’m saying.
Velameestra Windrunner says: There’s always the possibility of mental communication. Sending. Message. Anything of that sort.
Remnii says: That is a good idea! I always have sending prepped.
Velameestra Windrunner says: That would be at least my best guess. I’m not sure how their rituals work if that would disturb anything, but… it’s an idea.
Remnii says: Making a mental connection would still likely be better than shaking them awake. No offense! And also, Vel.
She looks down to Vel and motions her hands, cupping the arcanist’s face without actually touching her.
Remnii says: You are just full of so many ideas!
Samaara nods in agreement, and Vel’s ears go faintly pink at the compliment. Remnii gives her an excited thumbs up before looking back to the tauren.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: They’re likely shamans. So out of my element.
Remnii says: That would make sense. Well, I suppose there is nothing to lose in sending one of them, unless anyone has any other ideas?
Remnii instinctively looks at Vel.
Velameestra Windrunner says: That was my best suggestion.
Remnii says: And it was a good one!
Remnii looks to the tauren with her eyes open--the one not doing necromancy--and she attempts to send her.
Remnii says [sending]: I’m sorry to disturb you… we are by your spring, and are seeking water from it. We did not wish to touch you during your ritual--
The tauren moves and catches herself. She shakes her head and takes a deep breath.
Tauren Spiritwalker says [taur-ahe]: Hello? Who is there?
She looks to the group, and her eyes are very milky white.
Remnii gives Vel another thumbs up, and quickly casts tongues
Remnii says [tongues]: Hello, spiritwalker.
The tauren’s ears perk up, and she turns and stands.
Tauren Spiritwalker says [taur-ahe]: I’m sorry, I didn’t know travelers arrived.
Remnii says [tongues]: You and your companion seemed busy. Unfortunately time is of the essence…
Tauren Spiritwalker says [taur-ahe]: It is fine!
With expert precision, the woman guides herself to the water’s edge.
Tauren Spiritwalker says [taur-ahe]: What can I help you with?
Tha tauren is tall, and her fur and hair are completely stark white. From the glow of the blue water, her fur almost has a bluish tinge, but she looks in the group’s direction with a slight squint. Clothing and totems are draped over her body, along with shamanic fetishes.
Tauren Spiritwalker says [taur-ahe]: My name is Tara Windtotem. How can I help you? I’m sorry I may not be able to help you much if you came here on a pilgrimage, but I will do what I can.
Remnii says [tongues]: If you are familiar with the area, you may know Jarod Shadowsong. He was looking for water blessed by the spirits.
Tara Windtotem says [taur-ahe]: Of course! This spring is said to be connected to the greatest of warriors and heroes of our life. If that is what you seek, then this should be sufficient. If Jarod Shadowsong… if he is the one that needs it, it would be right to have it. But..
She glances to the other spiritwalker.
Tara Windtotem says [taur-ahe]: Is he here with you?
Remnii says [tongues]: He is not. We are on our way to find him. I have a number of other deliveries for him.
Tara Windtotem says [taur-ahe]: I see. I’m sorry, I don’t know if you could bring this to him… to bring the water from the cave, it would lose its potency, and I am not skillful enough to transport it. I’m sorry, I am still learning.
Remnii says [tongues]: Do not apologize. We were the ones that intruded. Do you know what can transport it?
Tara Windtotem says [taur-ahe]: No. I don’t. But my mother Yona… she taught me all I knew, and I’m sure she’ll be able to help you, but, well, she is not here.
Remnii says [tongues]: Would there be a way to reach her? I’m sorry if I woke you or separated you.
Tara Windtotem says [taur-ahe]: No. I was searching for her. It has been nearly two weeks since she left on her walk, much longer than she has before, and I grow afraid. We move frequently from place to place, and I had heard that Master Shadowsong lived here, and I hoped to get his assistance to maybe find her where I have failed… but I… I am afraid. I have never walked without her, and I don’t know if I’ll come back, but I worry that has occurred with her.
Remnii says [tongues]: I’m sure if we put our heads together, we can figure it out.
Tara Windtotem says [taur-ahe]: I know the rites, but I am afraid… I fear that if I do this and cannot bring myself back, my mother and myself will be lost. But unless she returns to herself voluntarily, I fear what could happen.
Remnii says [tongues]: You are brave for wishing to look for her.
Tara Windtotem says [taur-ahe]: You are kind, stranger. I feel perhaps my ancestors built this challenge as a test. Perhaps one to prove if I am worthy of this blessing. I only hope I can find her before it’s too late.
Remnii nods and looks back to the rest of the party. She had been more-or-less translating everything that had been discussed thus far.
Given the description and the type of magic at work, Vel is pretty certain the spell in question is a form of astral projection, though it is likely being done in a different manner than the arcane methods that she was familiar with.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I’m at least cursorily familiar with magics capable of things like astral projection… normally, ending the spell would simply cause the spirit to return to the body provided the tether is still there, but if she’s been unable to return… there is a concern that the tether may not be intact. There is the potential of, maybe, trying to contact her on the plane she is currently walking. It’s just hard to say how far she’s gone at this point if it’s been two weeks…
Remnii says [tongues]: Some advanced rituals I have seen my vakas undertake have taken months. He does not eat, he does not do anything, he simply communes with the Light for days upon days upon days. And… it is very possible she is still out there, but I understand your concern…
She looks to Tara, who seems to understand bits and pieces of common and recognized most of the group did not speak taur-ahe.
Remnii says [tongues]: ...it can be hard to watch. But, I know what she looks like. I could try to send her. It would not hurt.
Tara Windtotem says: I do not know if it would work, but… if you wish to try!
Remnii says [tongues]: So, we could try that first?
Remnii looks back to Vel.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It wouldn’t hurt. At the very least it could offer a read on her condition if she is able to respond.
Remnii says [tongues]: That is good enough for me.
Remnii studies Yona and casts sending.
Remnii says [sending]: Yona, it has been two weeks. Your daughter is worried for you. If you can hear this, can you let me know?
Yona Windtotem says [sending]: Hm. How strange. Thank you for your concern, stranger, but my daughter is right here with us.
Remnii looks at Tara.
Remnii says [tongues]: Do you have any siblings, Tara?
Tara furrows her brow.
Tara Windtotem says: Only one… but she passed when she was very young.
Remnii says [tongues]: That is… unexpected. Uther, could you look over Yona here?
Uther Menethil says: I don’t see why not.
Uther uses his divine sense, and he senses nothing otherworldly. However, the water is blessed. Uther reports as much.
Tara Windtotem says: Did you discover something?
Remnii says [tongues]: You had a sister that passed away, you said?
Tara Windtotem says: Yes. My mother was very sickly when she had us… I never knew my sister.
Remnii says [tongues]: I see. The name you are given, your gifts, is it true you can communicate with ancestors and the spirits beyond?
Tara Windtotem says: I can. I’m still but a student, however. My mother is teaching me. That is why we travel together. She is the only direct family I have. We live separate lives from our tribe.
Remnii says [tongues]: I believe she may be with your… sister at the moment.
Tara Windtotem says: I fear if she is still there… it may be something more malevolent. My mother is strong, but even she is not immune to the temptations of the spirit world.
Remnii sends another sending to Yona.
Remnii says [sending]: Yona, are both your daughters with you?
Yona laughs.
Yona Windtotem says [sending]: You are a very curious stranger, but you must be mistaken. I have only one daughter.
Remnii says [sending]: What is that daughter’s name? I am curious.
Yona Windtotem says [sending]: Who are you?
Remnii says [sending]: A friend by the spring in the Bravewind Mesa. With Tara.
Yona Windtotem says [sending]: I’m sorry, my friend, I believe you have the wrong person. I don’t know what or whom you are speaking of, but may your ancestors guide you.
Remnii looks back to the group.
Remnii says [tongues]: I believe you are correct, Tara… she says she only has one daughter, and she doesn’t know anything about where she is… something may have a hold on her.
Tara Windtotem says: Oh no. I… I don’t know what to do. I could perhaps journey to Mantle Rock, perhaps someone within the Earthen Ring can aid me in saving her before it’s too late.
Remnii says [tongues]: You are not alone.
Velameestra Windrunner says: If… I’m not particularly familiar with the art of astral projection in detail, but generally speaking, fetching the individual is the… most direct route.
Tara Windtotem says: I may be able to help… I know her rituals. I know of them. If I study her totems, I think I can do it, but I fear I am not strong enough to retrieve her.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Can you take people with you?
Tara blinks.
Tara Windtotem says: I… may be able to send others, but I would never want to endanger a group of strangers!
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: I’ve been to the Emerald Dream. It may be similar?
Tara Windtotem says: The spirit realm is fraught with danger but… I will not stop you. If you need this water, I will watch over your corporeal forms while you are beyond if that is what you wish to do…
Velameestra Windrunner says: I think it’s manageable.
Tara nods and she starts to go through the tomes and regents to get prepared. The group rests around the spring (though Vel stays away from it).
Tara Windtotem says: Do you all wish to go…? I can watch over your bodies.
Wulf says: First you turn me into a cloud, and now you want me to go on some sort of spiritual journey?
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: You don’t have to go.
Wulf says: I think I’ll stick here and make sure our little apprentice here doesn’t get you all killed.
Tara winces.
Tara Windtotem says: My common is not particularly good… but I think that was insulting. He is… right in his mistrust.
Remnii says [tongues]: We were all students, and still are.
Uther Menethil says: How likely are enemies?
Tara Windtotem says: I cannot say. There are many beings on the other side. Some of them are benevolent, while others seek only to prey… however I am not an expert. But you must steel yourselves, and be prepared to protect yourselves at all costs.
Uther looks over to Wulf.
Uther Menethil says: I’m going to go.
Tara Windtotem says: For those of you that wish to go, please keep track of where the cord of silver leads. It will bring you back to your true self once you are done walking. And hopefully you will be able to find my mother…
Tara takes a deep breath and places basins in the water. She starts to dance, trying to remember the steps. The first time, she stumbles, but she winces and begins again. Remnii casts guidance on her and offers gentle encouragement. Water starts to move with her motions, and for a creature as large as a tauren, her motions are surprisingly graceful. One by one, the basins begin to rise from the spring and float in the water, and small slivers and motes of light. Vel realizes very quickly what she's going to likely have to do, and mentally, she relents to do it.
They start to drink. For everyone but Vel, it’s clear and cool, and not painful. However, they hear an agonized sound of pain from Vel as she straight up drinks the holy water.
The group is blasted out of their bodies, and they are now standing behind their bodies, a silver cord connecting themselves to their bodies. Wulf is looking at Vel with a very perplexed expression, as Vel’s body is twitching, her mouth open--exposing her fangs--and there is clear burning on the inside of her mouth.
Tara goes over to Vel and is making sure she is okay, but her words are not audible. There are a lot of looks in Vel’s direction, but Remnii directs the focus of the group elsewhere.
As they look to their companions, there are animals instead. Tol’vas looks like a wolf. Seria is the form of a raptor, though her tattoos and markings are the same as her own. Vel’s space contains a stark-white spider. Remnii is a fluffy talbuk. Samaara is a saber-cat sized, marsuul-like creature.
Remnii says: You’re a big marsuul!
Samaara says: I believe they’re called pantharas… but, yes, big marsuuls.
Uther appears to be a very tall, regal, golden retriever, with perfect fur. Riff looks like his true form. Broll looks like his bear form.
They can speak perfectly normal.
Tol’vas starts to ask Vel about the clear pain she was in, but Remnii points out another very faint, silver string.
Remnii says: It seems we found our path.
As they look down to their own bodies, they can see some traces of their own spectral bodies.
Samaara says: It seems Yona’s thread is quite thin…
Velameestra Windrunner says: It would likely be best to just follow it and see where it leads…
Remnii says: Agreed.
Riff says: Lets go then!
The group heads out of the cave, and they see a strange sight. The world is almost unchanged, but viewed through a grey glass. The sky overhead is a swirling vortex of energy. Riff soars upward, as the cord seems to be heading upward.
Vel looks upward, and wills herself to go upward, and lo-and-behold, she moves upwards. They are unbound to the ground, and there seems to be no real gravity in the world. There are lights moving in the distance. The thread itself, however, seems to flicker.
The group tries to follow, and all of them lose the cord at least once, but they manage to find it again up and up and up.
Remnii recognizes the place. It’s heading towards the highest mesa in the area.
Remnii says: I saw this in the vision. Jarod is also close.
They continue a bit further, and they see what appears to be three figures. Specifically, three wolves. There is a large brown wolf, one with a bluish-tinge, and a smaller one with a subtle brown hue. The younger wolf is running around and seems to be chasing a spectral rabbit of some kind. It grabs it, tumbles, and the rabbit runs off again.
They can hear the laughter of a small girl, speaking in taur-ahe.
Riff says: Dat’s dem I think! She looks like the woman in the spring!
Remnii says: Lets go.
The group starts to descend. The white wolf turns to them, and they can see two horns on her head.
Yona Windtotem says: Why hello there. It’s a lovely day we have today.
Remnii says [tongues]: Greetings! Yona, correct?
Yona Windtotem says: That is correct. I recognize your voice. You were the stranger that contacted me earlier.
Remnii nods.
Remnii says [tongues]: The very same.
Remnii inclines her head to the other adult wolf, and he has a wide set of horns and several scars across his body.
Remnii says [tongues]: Greetings!
The young wolf stops and looks at them.
Young Tauren says [taur-ahe]: Mommy, who are these people?
Yona Windtotem says [taur-ahe]: My child, they are here to enjoy this garden like us. There is plenty of room. The Earth Mother provides bounties for all of us.
Tol’vas looks down, and there is a garden. There are flowers, but he blinks and he realizes they are not really there.
Seria hears a voice from behind her.
Familiar Voice says [zandali]: Seria?
Seria slowly turns around, and she sees her mother standing amidst a garden of flowers and stone cairns.
Echo of Kala says [zandali]: Seria....
Seria hesitates, and Kala moves closer with her arms out. The rest of the group can hear her speaking in Zandali, and they see her as an animal--a bear--but Seria sees her as herself.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says: Seria, this place is a trap.
Familiar Voice says: Uther, my boy!
Uther looks toward the source of the voice, and he sees a tree like from back in Lordaeron. Under it, in casual, nice fatigues, is Uther the Lightbringer. He offers a wide smile.
Echo of Uther the Lightbringer says: My you’ve grown into a fine young man, haven’t you!
Uther Menethil says: I’ve tried! Is it really you?
Echo of Uther the Lightbringer says: I don’t know if we could ever truly answer that question, lad, but we don’t have to think about that now. Come, enjoy this wonderful afternoon with me!
Uther the Lightbringer sits down next to the tree and pats the ground next to him.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Uther, remember what this place is.
Familiar Voice says [thalassian]: Vela?
Vel hears a voice from behind her, and she freezes. Her eyes are locked on Uther, her posture rigid and refusing to turn.
Echo of Nirenn Windrunner says [thalassian]: Is something wrong, dear? You know you can always talk to me.
Velameestra Windrunner says [thalassian]: ...You’re not here.
Echo of Nirenn Windrunner says [thalassian]: I’m always with you, Vela. You know that.
Vel slowly turns. To the rest of the group, the figure behind her appears to be a beautiful white-tailed deer, but Vel sees her mother, dressed in a simple spring dress.
Nirenn offers a smile. She is only a stone’s throw away.
Velameestra Windrunner says [thalassian]: You’re not here. You can’t be here.
Vel’s voice is shaking.
Echo of Nirenn Windrunner says [thalassian]: I am as long as you are. It’s alright. You don’t have to be afraid. I can protect you.
Tol’vas also hears a voice behind him.
Familiar Voice says [darnassian]: Tol’vas? Is that really you? You got so big!
A young lynx with dark violet fur appears, but Tol’vas sees them as Shandris’s younger brother, Janius. The same way he looked last time Tol’vas saw him.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says [darnassian]: I’m not sure who you are, but stop wearing his face.
As Remnii looks about, she sees the figures, and she looks over to Samaara. There’s a draenei there, one that Remnii had never seen before. Samaara’s shoulders are heaving, her face buried in the shoulder of the draenei woman, whose arms are wrapped around her.
Unfamiliar Voice says [draenic]: Nyrissra?
Remnii does not turn, not recognizing the name. Then she feels a gentle hand on her shoulder.
Unfamiliar Voice says [draenic]: Is that you?
Remnii bristles and turns around.
She sees Shaspira, as she looked in the image that Velen had showed her. Her brow is furrowed in puzzlement.
They see Broll surrounded by two other figures who can only be assumed to be his wife and daughter.
Echo of Uther the Lightbringer says: Come on lad, it’s not often that men like you and me get the opportunity to enjoy ourselves. We have a lot to catch up on!
Uther blinks, and he sees the world around him, but it starts to look more like Lordaeron. The weight of everything he’s had to deal with, and being separated from everyone, it starts to bubble up. Then his legs move, and he starts to walk towards the Lightbringer. The burdens start to disappear with each step.
As Vel looks to her mother and she tells her she’s not really there, she starts to realize that the meadows that she had begun to see shimmer and fade. She realizes that the area had started to look like the place she first found Arkha’din. Her dress was the one Nirenn was buried in. The things she said were just things Vel could remember her saying.
The same happens as Seria realizes the world had started to look like the Hinterlands.
Janius looked the exact same that Tol’vas remembered, and Remnii, as she looks, realizes the woman wasn’t really there, but it was something she wished she could have had.
Remnii looks at Arlaana.
Remnii says [draenic]: Thank you for telling me my name. I’m sorry for what happened to you.
Echo of Arlaana says [draenic]: I am too.
Remnii says [draenic]: Somewhere in you, I know.
Remnii takes a big step back, and Arlaana gives Remnii a gentle squeeze. She blinks, and the image starts to blur, and then fade in an ethereal breeze.
Janius gives Tol’vas an apologetic look.
Echo of Janius Feathermoon says [darnassian]: I’m sorry. I didn’t want it to hurt. I just wanted to help.
Tol'vas Moonshadow says [darnassian]: I know. We both miss you too.
Echo of Janius Feathermoon says [darnassian]: I’ll always be in your memories.
Janius looks down, and disappears
Seria looks to her mother, but she knows it’s not her. Kala moves forward and places a hand on her cheek.
Echo of Kala says [zandali]: I’m sorry, Seria. We did not want to cause you pain. But she is always with ya.
Seria says [zandali]: I know that.
Echo of Kala says [zandali]: Of course you do.
Kala takes a step back, and she dissolves into the wind.
Echo of Kala says [zandali]: Stay strong for mada.
Vel had started to cry, and the image of Nirenn wraps her arms around her and starts to hum a song. It’s a familiar lullaby. The voice starts to fade through the voices of her loved ones. The figure’s arms disappear. And she realizes they were her own, hugging her own shoulders, and humming herself the lullaby.
Vel jerks out of the pseudo-trance and immediately looks around for Uther. She sees him, his head back against a tree, chatting and laughing with Uther the Lightbringer sitting next to him.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Uther it’s not real!
Uther looks around and sees Vel running towards him. The world is now almost in full color. To him, Vel looks exactly as she did the day he had become a knight. Her hair was pale blonde, her voice the same as it always was.
He is in a place outside the city, in a place where he had ridden with his father many times--a place Arthas told him he had ridden with Uther the Lightbringer as well.
Uther Menethil says: Ah! Vel! Come join us!
Velameestra Windrunner says: Uther, you need to come with me. It’s not real.
Uther Menethil says: What do you mean it’s not real? Look! It’s home!
Velameestra Windrunner says: Uther, we’re not home.
Echo of Uther the Lightbringer says: Are you alright, lass?
Uther Menethil says: I believe she was talking to me, Lightbringer.
Echo of Uther the Lightbringer says: I know, I’m just worried for her. You care a lot about Vel. I wish to make sure she is alright.
Vel had started to approach Uther, and she grabs his arm.
Uther Menethil says: Vel, are you alright? You’re freezing.
Velameestra Windrunner says: You need to wake up, that’s not him.
For a moment, Vel’s words don’t make sense, but… then he realizes that he wasn’t in Lordaeron. They were on the other side of the world. He knew why Vel was so cold. He remembered why.
And Uther the Lightbringer was gone. He had died years ago.
Uther Menethil says: Vel, of course this is Uther. This is Uther the Lightbringer. I told you about him so many times. We’ll go find my father and he’ll… he’ll tell you that…
The memories and realization starts to rush forward.
Uther Menethil says: My father isn’t at the palace.
Vel’s head slowly shakes.
Uther Menethil says: We haven’t been to the palace for some time. We haven’t been home for some time.
Uther sighs heavily, stands up and looks back to the Lightbringer, who now has a sad smile.
Echo of Uther the Lightbringer says: I know, lad.
Uther Menethil says: Duty calls, Lightbringer.
Echo of Uther the Lightbringer says: It always does, doesn’t it!
The Lightbringer stands up and slaps his thighs.
Echo of Uther the Lightbringer says: I hope this could help, in some small way.
Uther Menethil says: I’m not certain how much, but at the very least, the moment’s respite was nice.
Uther gives Lightbringer a Silver Hand salute.
Echo of Uther the Lightbringer says: Light be with you, lad.
He puts a hand on his shoulder, and the last vestiges of the memory shatter away.
Broll is sitting with his wife and daughter, and Samaara is still hugging the draenei woman, and a second draenei has joined them.
Samaara says [draenic]: Remnii. You’re awake. I’m glad that you’re safe.
Remnii says [draenic]: I am.
She gives her a sad smile.
Samaara says [draenic]: I’m sorry. This is Sirhis and Vazra.
Remnii says [draenic]: Hello.
Echo of Sirhis says [draenic]: It’s good to see you finally awake.
Remnii says [draenic]: It’s good to see the both of you too. How are you holding up, Samaara?
Samaara says [draenic]: I’ve never been happier.
Remnii sits next to Samaara and looks to the other draenei.
Remnii says [draenic]: Thank you for taking care of her. Thank you for taking care of everyone.
Remnii looks out to the tauren as well.
Remnii says [draenic]: But we need to go home now. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t know my birth name. But, that woman’s daughter needs her.
Echo of Sirhis says [draenic]: But… you all need so much help. You all carry so much sadness with you.
Remnii says [draenic]: I know we do. We all lost so much, and we may lose more before this is done. This was a wonderful respite. If you will let them go gently…
Echo of Sirhis says [draenic]: But--
Echo of Vazra says [draenic]: She is right. We should let them go.
The two women look to the rest of the visions.
Echo of Vazra says [draenic]: Take care of them.
Remnii steels herself.
Remnii says [draenic]: I will. Thank you for trying to take care of us.
Echo of Vazra says [draenic]: I believe that they would have loved you.
Sirhis takes Samaara’s hand, and Vazra cups her face.
Echo of Vazra says [draenic]: We have to go now, Samaara, but we love you.
Vazra kisses her on the forehead.
Samaara says [draenic]: What do you mean? Why? We are always together.
Sirhis and Vazra hug her.
Samaara says [draenic]: What’s wrong? I don’t…
Samaara freezes, and the grip Samaara holds on them tightens, and slowly the pair fade.
Samaara says [draenic]: I love you…
The vestiges of the spirits disappear, and Samaara staggers and looks at her hands. She clenches them into fists, and she cries.
The figures vanish around Broll, and he sits there, looking up at the swirling sky. Yona nuzzles into the figures next to her as well, and they too fade away.
Remnii stays with Samaara for a moment, and she puts a hand on Samaara’s.
Remnii says [draenic]: They are always with you, Samaara.
She kisses Samaara’s forehead, and then heads toward Yona. However, the group hears the sound of silent wings flapping. They see a humanoid figure flying through the air towards them.
Then they stop about 60 feet above the group. They are a tall, and somewhat gangling humanoid figure. She is obscured by cloth, and she has large azure wings spreading to either side. Her eyes fall on Yona, and she moves down.
Remnii says [tongues]: Yona!
Yona Windtotem says [taur-ahe]: You said your name was Remnii.
Remnii says [tongues]: I did.
Yona Windtotem says [taur-ahe]: I am… sorry for the trouble you’ve gone through.
Remnii says [tongues]: Your daughter. Tara. She sent us here. She danced well.
Yona Windtotem says [taur-ahe]: I’m sure she did.
The ethereal figure lowers.
Spirit Healer says: Yona Windtotem. It seems your tether is at an end.
The figure holds a hand out towards her.
Spirit Healer says: Have no fear.
Yona looks up at the entity.
Spirit Healer says: I will take you to your ancestors’ sides. To your beloved.
Yona Windtotem says [taur-ahe]: Perhaps it is time I joined them. Tara is strong.
Remnii says [tongues]: I would not deny the right of anyone to pass on, but Tara needs you. You were gone for two long weeks.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Don’t just leave her!
Remnii says [tongues]: We can still see your tether. You have some time. She needs you.
Remnii holds her hand out as well, and Yona looks at it, and also at Vel.
Remnii says [tongues]: She wants to show you her dance. The one you taught her.
Yona looks to Vel again, and the sorrow and anguish on the arcanist’s face. She then looks down at her tether. The spirit healer smiles faintly, and places a hand on the tauren, and a faint blue light fades through the tauren, and her thread grows brighter.
Yona takes Remnii’s hands.
Spirit Healer says: It is not your time. Return to your child, and live.
The entity pulls her hood back, and her bright white eyes flash. The flash fills the airs.
Spirit Healer says: Return to your realm, mortals.
Vel identifies the spell that the spirit healer is casting as modify memory. The group winces, and their eyes open. They are back in the material plane.
Vel is immediately smacked with agony as she returns to her body. She is also damp, as if she had been dropped in water. It was likely that Tara had dropped her into the spring in the hopes that it would aid in healing whatever damage had occurred.
However, they can remember everything--seemingly the entity’s spell had been resisted.
Yona breathes, and splashes in the water. Tara goes running up to her mother.
Tara Windtotem says [taur-ahe]: Mother, are you alright?
Yona Windtotem says [taur-ahe]: I’m fine, child, but I am starving. What say we treat our guests to a meal.
Yona’s eyes are also very cloudy as she looks to the group.
