Appearing Creatures: Dragonspawn
Remnii attempts to send Phaedra all the way over on Draenor given it is likely she had arrived at New Garadar.
Remnii says: Phaedra. By my guess, I believe you may be at Garadar by now. I hope you made it safely.
There is a moment as the magics are casted and sent off.
Phaedra says: You have pretty good timing, Remnii. We just got here a few days ago. Everyone is fine though we had to practically carry Thela.
Remnii says: Is she well? With her pregnancy? I am lucky that we shared the same profession for so long.
Phaedra says: Everything seems to be fine so far. It is hard to say exactly when she will give birth if there is a difference. But it should be sometime in the first couple of months of the new year.
Remnii says: I will be keeping in touch as you all now hopefully have a more stable position, provided the orcs are willing. If Geyah is still alive, tell her I say thank you.
Phaedra says: The orcs have been too kind. I suspect they knew of our coming. Leafshadow helped, but I will tell her when she is next healthy.
Remnii says: Thank you, Phaedra. I will check in when I can. Azeroth is… different. Much to learn and much to do. Light go with you. Know I love you.
Phaedra says: In that matter, is it truly so different? Be safe, and you know that I love you too. Tell Yrel I said hi.
A few days later with Remnii, after she spoke with Val’zuun, she reaches out to Phaedra again.
Remnii says: Phaedra, I should give you an update. Truly. About what has happened in short terms. Yrel is gone. She attacked the White Tyrant. Was taken.
Phaedra says: Oh…
Remnii says: While Yrel pulled her stunt, Raluhi teleported me away. I am… gone from the Ati-Kaso and warband now. With humans and elves. Learning much.
Phaedra says: I see much has changed. I will pray for Yrel’s safety. And I hope we can find her again. Soon. Before it’s too late… You know what the Legion does.
Remnii: I know she has been kept on a prison world. She… Samaara and the Ati-Kaso are still with Arthak. Communications are fleeting. Magic barrier in the way.
Phaedra says: The quakes from the Frostfire Ridges are worse. They’ve gotten worse. The shamans don’t know what to do. This world is dying.
Remnii says: The war’s just beginning and yet so much is moving. I will let you know if I know more. Again, be safe, Phaedra. Chronakai kristor.
Phaedra says: You know I do. But, lets be honest, this war started long ago. Only now it’s affecting others. 'Chronakai kristor, my friend.
Remnii also helped Raluhi start to set up a networking plan. He has a few letters he’s drafting to some of the higher ups to get him more integrated in Dalaran.
December 3rd
This day was the religious holiday of Cornerstone. In Dalaran, Talath had offered his aid in cooking and preparing the food, and Remnii, Raluhi, Rhonin, and the boys all attended the service--as the draenei in particular hold the Light.
With the traveling group, Uther and Elissa and some others had attended a service in a small town for the holiday.
December 7th (Evening)
The traveling party were invited into Taretha’s cottage to enjoy a warm meal. The cottage itself is modest, but cozy and well-furnished. Seria had to duck a little bit in the cottage given the doorways are made for smaller individuals.
Taretha goes to prepare more food, and Aiden grabs some extra chairs from the barn outside to provide their guests with seating.
Gil checks on Victor’s throat injury, and he assures Gil that he is fine. Gil tries to push to look at it, but Victor continues to insist that he is fine--keeping Gil away.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Well. Fine. If you feel this strongly about it, apparently.
Victor Prestor says: Trust me. My mother was a priest, I know a thing or two about first aid. I’m fine. I appreciate your concern, but don’t worry about it.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: ...Alright.
Gil leaves him be, though the situation is definitely a bit strange.
Before dinner starts, Victor snags Vel for a moment to speak to her quietly away from the group.
Victor Prestor says: Velameestra. So, would you mind telling me what that… was? I’m not exactly familiar with magic, but that was… different.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes… it was. How familiar are you with arcane corruption as a concept?
Victor Prestor says: Not at all, in fact.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Alright. So… mages have the ability to push beyond their normal capacities by tapping into deeper stores of magic. Stores that are more dangerous to utilize. Doing so risks a… magical backlash that can eventually lead to an imprint. That impression is what arcane corruption is. How it manifests varies, but normally there’s a link to the magic that caused it, or the specialty of the mage in question. In my case, that’s cryomancy. As a result… well. What you saw is its most severe manifestation. I call it a cold snap, for ease of reference.
Victor Prestor says: And… your hair. That wasn’t a stylistic choice, was it?
Velameestra Windrunner says: ...no. It wasn’t.
Victor Prestor says: Velameestra, that hardly sounds safe. Why did you allow yourself… why did you allow this to happen? You seem to be much more calculated than that.
Velameestra Windrunner says: A… good majority of it was protecting your cousin. He’s adept at making a target of himself, though I can’t say tapping into the Sunwell to try and stop the invasion helped the matter.
Victor pauses for a moment.
Victor Prestor says: Yes… I… heard about that.
Velameestra Windrunner says: But no, it’s not a… good situation. My body is showing symptoms of late state hypothermia. Though I can obviously still operate without a problem. I’m taking steps to remedy it, of course.
Victor Prestor says: So there’s a way to reverse it?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes. It takes a very long time at this particular juncture, but yes.
Victor Prestor says: Color me curious. How does one go about… fixing something like this?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Well… depends on the severity. In my case it would take approximately a year or so and a consistent usage of powerful recovery magics. Like greater restoration. In addition to not… taking any more damage, so to speak. Lesser manifestations take less time, of course.
Victor Prestor says: That is significant. You were not lying.
Velameestra Windrunner says: ...needless to say I’ve been focusing on treating symptoms instead of an outright cure. Given our circumstances and the looming war, it’s unlikely I’ll be able to take the time needed to recover.
Victor Prestor says: I would suggest you keep doing that, then. I don’t think it would be wise for you to push yourself further than you already clearly have. There are people that rely on you, after all.
Vel blinks, clearly a bit taken aback by Victor’s response as his concern was unexpected.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes. My training with Esara… the discipline of the style she’s teaching me should serve as a buffer against further damage. You don’t need to worry.
Victor Prestor says: I did notice that. She… truth be told, Velameestra, I did not pick you for one that cared much for the art of swordplay. Color me a bit surprised I’ve seen you practicing a bit here and there. Are you trying to learn the same techniques that she uses?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes.
Victor Prestor says: Excellent! I would be… more than inclined to see what you’re capable of. She is a… very intriguing woman as far as her swordplay is concerned--and other traits of course--but I would be curious to see how you take what she does and make it your own.
Velameestra Windrunner says: If you ever want to spar, I’d be receptive to it.
Victor Prestor says: Mayhap a bit tonight, if you’re willing. ‘Tis not terrible out, and I doubt it will get better as we ascend into the mountains.
Vel nods and the conversation is interrupted as Taretha calls out that dinner is ready.
The meal is hearty and delicious. It’s a thick vegetable and beef barley stew.
The conversation trails off by the completion of dinner. Everyone does catch Lord Aiden glancing at Lee during dinner. After dinner, Lee excuses herself and starts to leave, but Aiden calls after her.
Lee Hale says: Yes, my lord?
Aiden Blackmoore says: You, uh… you were not perhaps the same woman who was once incarcerated in Durnholde’s prisons, were you?
Lee Hale says: And, if I was?
Aiden Blackmoore says: Well, if you were, I assume that I would have to bring you in for being responsible for the death of Lord Aedelas Blackmoore. My father. But from what I understand of this cutthroat brigand that tore herself from prison, such a person would never risk her life to save me. Why would someone responsible for the death of Aedelas save his son?
There is the crease of a smile on Aiden’s lips.
Aiden Blackmoore says: No, surely it’s a passing, coincidental similarity. I’m sure the woman responsible for that is long gone. And in fact, it would be a waste of our resources to keep offering a bounty for her head. Don’t you agree?
Lee Hale says: If that’s what your lordship believes.
Aiden Blackmoore says: Well, your highness, what do you think?
He looks at Victor. And Victor looks at him, at Lee, at Vel, then back at Aiden.
Victor Prestor says: Well. It was your father, and if that is what his lord desires, I can see it done. After all it was your house that would be fronting half of it.
Aiden Blackmoore says: Then it’s done. Make sure you remind any bounty hunters that mistake you for her of that.
Lee Hale says: I’ll be sure to do so.
She then spins on her heel and leaves. Aiden smirks and finishes his drink as he turns back to the rest.
Aiden Blackmoore says: So what brings all of you this far from the business up north? If you don’t mind my asking.
Uther sighs.
Uther Menethil says: Well. Uh… someone of great importance has gone missing, and we are endeavoring to track them down.
Aiden Blackmoore says: I see. Well I won’t pry into your exact business, as it’s not mine, but I do owe you my life twice over. If there’s anything I or any of Durnholde could do for any of you, just ask. You’ll always have a place here.
Uther Menethil says: It’s appreciated. I don’t suppose a seven-sided star rings a bell?
Aiden Blackmoore says: No. Not to me. Perhaps some sort of magic symbology?
Taretha Foxton says: It does sound magical. Or… perhaps something in astrology? Why do you ask?
Vel’s eyes widen at the mention of something in astrology, but she says nothing.
Uther Menethil says: Well. One of our more vague leads mentioned such a thing. I didn’t expect much, but you’ll never find something if you don’t look.
Aiden and Taretha don’t pry further, but Taretha offers their home for the night. There are a few guest rooms, and Taretha offers extra blankets in the main room for people to sleep on the couches or floor.
Some people start to turn in for the night, but Vel looks at Uther.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Uther. Would you mind walking with me?
Uther Menethil says: Always!
Vel and Uther put on their coats and head out into the snowy night, making their way away from the cabin. They pass Radiant, Indomitable, and Daisy all grazing on some hay that had been offered to them for the evening.
It’s clear there’s something on Vel’s mind, but she turns her eyes to Uther first.
Velameestra Windrunner says: How… are you doing, with all this? If I can ask?
Uther Menethil says: Holding it together. I would be lying to you if I said I wasn’t terrified. But. As my namesake once told me; when a man is afraid is the only time he is truly capable of being brave.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Hmph. That does sound like something the man from the stories would say. I’m… scared too, for what it’s worth.
Uther Menethil says: ...Though it hardly needs to be said, thank you, Velameestra. For helping.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Of course. But… um…
There’s a long pause.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I… wanted to talk to you about something in particular.
Uther Menethil says: Oh?
Velameestra Windrunner says: If you recall… outside the church. In Last Crossing. You expressed my situation with Victor was as much your business, though you wouldn’t pry. And… you’re right. It is your business.
Uther raises an eyebrow.
Uther Menethil says: Alright.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Um…
Vel sighs and takes a steadying breath as she clicks her tongue faintly behind her teeth.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Our… tension is due to the situation that happened in Durnholde. And my involvement in it.
Uther Menethil says: Involvement?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I was the one who released both Lee and Camrus. That’s why I knew who he was. And I told Victor as much before we went to Silvermoon.
For a moment, Uther looks like he got a mountain giant vigorously slammed into the back of his head with a tube sock.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It… wasn’t supposed to happen like it did. My goal was to cover a loophole I saw in the plan we were enacting. It was not a large leap to blame us for releasing the troll, and it was a leap that would have been correct… I hoped that if other people escaped the rational leap would be to blame them. It got… rapidly out of hand. I didn’t know who Camrus was until after the fact.
Uther Menethil says: But… Vel… why didn’t you tell me?
Velameestra Windrunner says: … I didn’t know what you would do. I made a few assumptions and I thought it best you weren’t involved. Through knowledge or otherwise.
Uther’s face disappears beneath his hand for a moment.
Uther Menethil says: Well... I can’t very well in good conscience, yell at you for doing something I have been known to do as well.
Velameestra Windrunner says: ...Though you should.
Uther Menethil says: Vel, you have to trust me.
Velameestra Windrunner says: … I do. I was just… concerned about damaging your relationship with Victor if I got you involved. It was his kingdom, after all.
Uther Menethil says: That explains his reaction.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes. And he was kind enough not to take my head off when I told him. Though he had every right to do so.
Uther exhales and offers her a shrug and a small smile.
Uther Menethil says: Even you make mistakes, it seems.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes. I do. And truthfully it’s been a breath of fresh air for someone to be calling me out on them.
Uther laughs faintly.
Uther Menethil says: If you’ll grant me a moment of shameless hypocrisy, Velameestra, stop taking so much on your own.
Velameestra Windrunner says: … You’re right, that is, in fact, shameless hypocrisy. But… I’m endeavoring to stop in what ways I can.
Uther Menethil says: And myself as well! We’re a team. And being on a team means, in my case, knowing when to play and knowing when to sit. I’m glad you told me.
Vel nods.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I… also told Victor I was going to tell you. And, truthfully Uther, it’s not something I should just be forgiven for.
Uther Menethil says: What would you have me do, throw you in the dungeon?
Vel opens her mouth, stops, and then opens her mouth again.
Velameestra Windrunner says: That… is rather difficult in the present circumstances I suppose. But, no… it’s very easy to get caught up in my own head. If there’s a problem, call me on it.
Uther Menethil says: I’ll endeavor to do so. Vel, in the future, I don’t need to know all of your business, but no more secrets like this.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Anything that involves you, I’ll ensure you’re a part of.
Uther Menethil says: Vel, I know you’re clever enough to know what I mean. You can trust me.
Vel looks at him, and mentally she starts to panic, and there’s an uncomfortable shuffle as she starts to wrestle with herself.
Velameestra Windrunner says: What if I… told you I was practicing forbidden magic?
Uther raises an eyebrow.
Uther Menethil says: Forbidden magic? What, like these warlocks?
Velameestra Windrunner says: No… Uther I’m a necromancer.
Uther once more looks completely taken aback.
Uther Menethil says: You’re… serious, aren’t you?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes. It’s… it’s not like what Zalazane was doing. There are certain things that can only be fought if you understand them. That’s… what I’m trying to do. Understand it.
Uther Menethil says: I believe you. I know you would never engage in something like that unless you thought it was… for the betterment of those you care about and… just… Vel, please, please be careful.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I am.
Uther Menethil says: I mean… clearly… you’re adept at keeping secrets. I’m not expressly worried about anyone finding out. But that wasn’t what I was telling you to be careful about.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I’m not approaching it with negligence.
Uther Menethil says: I would never dream that you would be negligent. Vel, what I’m worried about… I know I’m not the greatest student, but I do remember so many tales of people… extending into forbidden realms with the best of intentions. But… power like that has… a way of… twisting you. Slowly. Insidiously. The changes are so small… they’re....
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes and no.
Uther Menethil says: But Vel, please… just be careful and don’t be afraid to reach out if you need help.
Vel nods.
Velameestra Windrunner says: As it stands.... You’re one of the only people I can reach out to. At least in that regard.
Uther Menethil says: Well. Obviously I won’t be telling anyone.
Velameestra Windrunner says: That… went without saying.
Uther Menethil says: And… again. Thank you for being honest with me.
Velameestra Windrunner says: As your namesake said… you can’t be brave without first being terrified.
Uther Menethil says: Eloquently put.
Uther pulls Vel into a hug, and Vel squeezes back.
Uther Menethil says: Alright. We should probably head back.
Velameestra Windrunner says: If… you’re concerned.
She gestures to herself, indicating the chill that emanates from her body.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Is not from that.
Uther Menethil says: I don’t fully understand it… but I remember you explaining to me how these conditions come about. And… again… I am sorry.
Velameestra Windrunner says: We’re both making improvements.
They turn to head back towards the cottage. As they return, Victor is waiting with a practice sword in hand, tapping on his shoulder, and a second one in his other hand.
He looks to Vel, and then he looks at Uther with a long look. A look that reminds him of the conversation they had at Vel’s manor before they left.
Victor Prestor says: Are you still up to spar, Velameestra?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes.
Victor tosses her one of the practice swords, and Uther stays to watch as the trio heads out back behind the cottage in the clearing. Vel and Victor go a few rounds. He barely wins the first round, but as he gains momentum he manages to thoroughly best Vel as she’s a bit distracted throughout the matches.
After the third round, Victor sends Vel’s practice blade sailing and he glances back at Uther briefly before looking back at Vel.
Victor Prestor says: That bad, huh? Though I presume by the fact he’s sitting here, he hasn’t declared his hatred for you.
Velameestra Windrunner says: ...No. He hasn’t.
Victor shrugs.
Victor Prestor says: Typical Uther I suppose.
Uther Menethil says: You know it’s rude to talk about someone as though they’re not here.
Victor smiles.
Victor Prestor says: Oh I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you think I was hiding it. Anyroad, I think that’s enough for today. I wouldn’t want you to get frostbite, Velameestra.
Vel chuffs at the notion.
Victor grabs the sword he disarmed from Vel and returns both blades to the rack outside.
Victor Prestor says: We’ve got a long day. I suppose we should turn in.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Perhaps next time I should equal the playing field. Rather one-sided if I don’t use magic.
Victor Prestor says: I look forward to that. Lets call it a date.
Victor smirks, and then looks to Uther.
'Victor Prestor says: And perhaps another time I can try to take on both of you at once.
Velameestra Windrunner says: That’s a terrible idea.
Victor Prestor says: Oh most likely. But I’m curious enough to see if I could pull it off.
Uther Menethil says: Glad to see that blow to your neck has done nothing to damage your confidence.
Victor smirks.
Victor Prestor says: You know the ladies enjoy scars.
Uther scratches at his chest.
Victor Prestor says: I suppose you would know that more than most.
Vel averts her eyes given Uther was referencing the scar she had inflicted, and they start to head in. However as soon as they enter, Gil promptly requests that Vel accompany him back outside.
Victor looks at Uther and shrugs as the elf twins disappear again.
Victor Prestor says: So much for the frostbite.
Uther chuckles.
Uther Menethil says: Lets get some sleep.
Outside, Vel and Gil walk a little ways away from the cottage.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes Gil?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Do you think that Victor is behaving strangely?
Vel opens her mouth and closes it again for a moment.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Unfortunately, Gil… I am not particularly the best judge of those particular behaviors at the moment given… circumstances. Why do you ask?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Alright, if you had a laceration on your neck, would you not want someone else to look at it for you?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Uh… depending? I suppose if I didn’t want someone to see it for some reason, but ordinarily medical attention is not a bad idea.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: And Victor outright refused. In fact he wouldn’t even let me close to him.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Perhaps he’s… sensitive about…?
Gil raises an eyebrow.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Oh. Right. I suppose I can endeavor to keep an eye out if that’s what you’re asking me to do.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: That’s it. It could be nothing. But I don’t think keeping an eye on things is a bad idea.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yeah, I can do that.
Gil nods.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I know I can trust you.
Velameestra Windrunner says: That’s the phrase of the night.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: So you spoke with Uther?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I did.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Did it go as poorly as you thought?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Um… I was forgiven. I shouldn’t be. But I am.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Because it wasn’t his to forgive, or because you don’t think you deserve it?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I believe the answer to that is “yes”.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Then I suppose you have work to do with that still.
Vel raises an eyebrow.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Until you can let go of it yourself, no one’s forgiveness really matters, does it?
Velameestra Windrunner says: ...Gil it’s rather late to be challenging ideologies.
Gil laughs.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Fair enough. There’s always tomorrow to challenge your ideologies.
Vel sighs heavily and they head back into the cottage.
December 8th
Taretha makes breakfast for everyone in the morning, and Aiden parts ways to head back to Durnholde and interrogate the prisoners that they had managed to capture from the attack.
Lee once again takes the lead as the group heads north.
December 9th
This day also comes and goes without much of an event.
December 10th
In the morning, Lee informs them that they would be arriving in Ravenholdt in the evening. She reminds them that Ravenholdt is a noble, and it would be wise to remember that, and everything would be fine.
Lee Hale says: That said, you all will likely be welcomed as guests given…
She looks at Vel.
Lee Hale says: Just stay close to me, and I should be able to lead us there fine.
The entire incline up the rocky mountain, Seria is keeping her eyes peeled, as the signs that Lee is finding to guide the way are very similar to others she had found in the past. Unfortunately, she does not find any such messages from those that practice the magic that she does.
At the end of an incline, Lee puts a hand in the air to stop everyone.
Lee Hale says: Oh… shit.
She looks to the group.
Lee Hale says: We’re going to have to find another way around.
Velameestra Windrunner says: What’s the problem?
Lee Hale says: We… don’t want to go this way. Trust me.
Uther and Victor exchange a look, and Victor narrows his eyes at Lee.
Victor Prestor says: What has you in such a fright, woman?
Lee Hale says: Something we’ve been told to keep an eye out for, and something we don’t want to find us. Any of us. And that includes you as well. It’ll take a few days... or we can try to sneak by, but none of you are exactly stealthy.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I can… help with that.
Lee Hale says: If you think you can get us past, but… there’s three of them over there, and I’m not looking to alert them. The last thing I want is to lead them back to the manor. It would be on my head.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: What are they?
Lee Hale says: I don’t know exactly what they are, but they look close enough to… dragons that I’m not keen on leading them back. Now turn around and keep your voice down.
Gil glances as Vel.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: We should probably investigate that.
Vel sighs and looks back to the group.
Velameestra Windrunner says: If… you all want to start going back, Gil and I can perhaps get a feel for things.
Lee Hale says: I don’t think that’s a good idea. If they see you… I don’t know what they’re going to do. They’ve been around before, but we’ve been told to keep an eye out for more.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: You said that they look like dragons, yes?
Lee Hale says: If you’re so inclined to look, then look, but keep your head down. If they spot you they’re going to see all of us.
As Gil peaks his head around, he sees four creatures now. There’s a single humanoid figure, and the other three are four-legged creatures with lizard-like torsos. They are red and crimson in scale, and heavily armored.
Tension completely leaves Gil’s body as he recognizes the scale color. He quietly relays back to Vel what he sees.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Well… we still shouldn’t barge in.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: No, but what if we send Ara'shel?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Is… this something you can really approach?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I was not handed an instruction manual. But we know someone we can ask.
Vel sighs and patches into Krasus with sending.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Three four-legged creatures with lizard-like, humanoid torsos. Red of scale. In Alterac mountains north of Durnholde. Friend or foe?
Archmage Krasus says: Dragonspawn? Dragonspawn are children of the flight. They are loyal servants. You can trust them.
Vel nods and looks at Gil and nods again.
Velameestra Windrunner says: They’re called dragonspawn. He said they can be trusted.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: So I should introduce myself first and see how that goes?
Lee Hale says: No! Not at all! We have to go to Ravenholdt.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: And this is the quickest way?
Lee Hale says: Do you think they’re not going to follow us? Do you think Ravenholdt is going to want them crawling around? Look, I don’t know what they’re doing here, but I don’t think they’re welcome. And I don’t know how you’re friends with them.
Gil looks down to Ara’shel.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Hey little guy. You want to make an introduction for us?
Ara’shel chirps up at him.
Lee holds a hand out.
Lee Hale says: Why? We can just go around.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: We can also just go through because we can trust them.
Lee Hale says: I don’t think you understand what I’m talking about, Gil. We were specifically told that if we were in the area surrounding the manor to watch out for things not usually found here. Dragons were on the list.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I understand.
Lee Hale says: And you just want to waltz in and talk to them?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: These ones, yes.
Lee Hale says: Okay. Fine. Fine. You get one chance. To talk to them and get them to leave. But if it doesn’t work, I’m out. You’ll find your own way to Ravenholdt. Got it?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Seems fair enough.
Lee Hale says: Alright. I’m going to wait here. You do… whatever the hell it is you’re doing.
Gil sends Ara’shel out, and then follows after him.
One of the dragonspawn points and asks the humanoid if they should intercept, but the humanoid says no. Ara’shel bounds into him and nuzzles into his face and pushes the hood off.
It’s a bald man with a bushy red beard.
Bearded Man says: And what kind of creature are you?
Gilveradin Windrunner says [Draconic]: He’s one of a kind..
Bearded Man says [Draconic]: What brings you to these mountains, stranger, and how do you know this tongue?
Gilveradin Windrunner says [Draconic]: I think we have a shared responsibility.
Bearded Man says [Draconic]: Is that true? And what do you think my responsibility is here?
Gilveradin Windrunner says [Draconic]: Judging by the company we keep, we may have similar contacts.
Bearded Man says [Draconic]: You know a lot. What’s your name, stranger?
Gilveradin Windrunner says [Draconic]: Gilveradin Windrunner.
Bearded Man says [Draconic]: Windrunner? The name sounds familiar.
Gilveradin Windrunner says [Draconic]: There’s a lot of us.
He shows the dragonmark.
Bearded Man says [Draconic]: Dragonsworn? Then, you must be the Scholarly One’s.
Gilveradin Windrunner says [Draconic]: May I ask what you’re doing here?
Bearded Man says [Draconic]: I can tell you the basics, but the exact nature is classified. A group of people infiltrated our home while the dragonqueen was grieving the loss of the Scholarly One. Myself and my companions seek to reclaim this item.
Gilveradin Windrunner says [Draconic]: You’re not the only one.
Bearded Man says [Draconic]: I’m not?
Gilveradin Windrunner says [Draconic]: If it’s the same item I think.
Bearded Man says [Draconic]: You know quite a bit.
Gilveradin Windrunner says [Draconic]: I don’t intend to sound that way.
Bearded Man says [Draconic]: Don’t mistake it for mistrust. That mark is genuine and difficult to reproduce. Well if you’re aware of the missing item we seek, perhaps you’d be willing to lend your assistance.
Gilveradin Windrunner says [Draconic]: I can in my own way. I’m here on my own business, but I haven’t had leads in that regard.
Bearded Man says [Draconic]: I see. Well, if you are under another mission, I cannot command you to do anything, and I would not dream to do so. If you discover anything about the egg that was stolen, or its whereabouts or anyone suspicious that may know more, please contact me.
Gilveradin Windrunner says [Draconic]: I have a strange request for you. I have an individual with me that is part of the group on this mountain, but they are paranoid about being followed by you and yours.
Bearded Man says [Draconic]: Understandably so. Very well, I do not wish to keep you and your allies from going where you need to go.
He turns to the dragonspawn.
Bearded Man says [Draconic]: Come. We’re moving out.
Crimson Dragonspawn says [Draconic]: Yes sir. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Dragonsworn. You are few and far between.
Ruby Dragonspawn says [Draconic]: Perhaps one day you and I can fight side by side.
Gilveradin Windrunner says [Draconic]: I’d like that. Thank you for your information. I know to dig for something else.
Bearded Man says [Draconic]: yes. Be careful though, young one. It would not do to risk yourself for my mission.
Gilveradin Windrunner says [Draconic]: May I ask your name?
Bearded Man says [Draconic]: You may call me Morven, at least in this form.
Gilveradin Windrunner says [Draconic]: Good to meet you.
Morven says [Draconic]: You as well. May you find what you seek, young Gilveradin.
They then leave, and the dragonspawn begin to climb up the side of the cliff. Morven turns and there’s a flicker beneath his cloak, and the cloak expands like wings as he flies up and lands on the cliffside. He nods down at Gil and they disappear.
Gil walks back to the group.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I trust that went well, then?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Very.
Lee is pacing, arms crossed.
Lee Hale says: So you talked them away?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Yeah, it wasn’t difficult.
Lee Hale says: And they are not just going to follow us?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Unlikely. They are looking for something else.
Lee looks at Vel and then to Gil.
Lee Hale says: Alright. But if you’re wrong, this is on your head. Come on, lets go.
There are some exchanged looks. Esara catches Vel’s eye, though it’s not her secret to give. And Victor just throws his hands up, because, okay, who else do the Windrunner twins know.
As they approach a cave, there’s a human with a sword. Lee holds up a crest.
Armed Man says: Quite the party, Lee Hale.
Lee Hale says: It’s a long story.
Armed Man says: It’s not me you have to explain it to. I trust you know the way.
Lee nods.
Armed Man says: Good. I trust you all follow her closely. And I mean closely.
The man disappears, and Lee follows a meandering path through. The cave is well-lit, and there are rock formations throughout. Vel spots a trip wire in one of the false passages, which leads up to a glyph spell.
Gil sees some false passages that likely will fall away.
And Seria sees a treasure chest just sitting out, and she picks up a sulphurous scent. Other guards peer at them, nodding as they pass.
Finally, the cave exits, and they are in a small clearing with evergreen trees abound. At the center, is a beautiful, Alteraci style manor. It’s multi-story, and there are a few farmers and more guards watching the group. Lee takes them to the stables and helps them tie up their horses.
It feels like literally everyone is watching.
Lee takes them to the entryway to the courtyard, and there is a sigil of house Ravenholdt visible. The guards nod as the group enters, and Lee knocks on the main door four times.
There’s silence for a moment, then the door opens.
There is a tan-skinned half-elf servant boy that greets them. He is well-dressed in servant clothing.
Servant Boy says: Welcome to Ravenholdt Manor. May I fetch refreshment? I imagine your way here was taxing. The mountains can be unforgiving.
Victor Prestor says: I would like one.
Servant Boy says: Of course, my lord.
He ducks down a passage. The manor itself is eerily silent, and after a bit there are footsteps on the balcony overhead.
There is a mounted yeti head with a dagger stuck in its forehead, and there’s a dartboard in a corner with daggers in it. There is a small hearth not far away, and it seems warm and inviting, but also not.
A half-elven woman, well-dressed with raven-black hair, appears on the balcony. It’s Relhana.
Relhana Blaque says: Well well well, now there’s a face I didn’t expect to see here.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I’m full of surprises.
Relhana Blaque says: Yes, I’m sure you are.
She smiles at Lee.
Relhana Blaque says: You’ve done good, darling. Don’t worry, I got your missive. I’m well aware of those that stand before me. Your highness, your highness. I’m Relhana. It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance.
She makes her way down the balcony.
Relhana Blaque says: Now, what the letter did not inform me is what brings all you to this place.
Uther Menethil says: Nigh two weeks ago a caravan heading north was attacked. Mine own father, King Arthas of Lordaeron, was taken. We were wondering if you had information.
Relhana Blaque says: So the rumors are true. King Arthas Menethil has vanished.
Uther Menethil says: Vanished implies disappeared. He was taken.
Relhana Blaque says: Of course. My apologies for my rudeness, your highness.
Velameestra Windrunner says: We believe the Syndicate is involved.
Relhana Blaque says: Yes, I wager that would make a good deal of sense, would it not? They tend to be involved in a great deal of things, after all. And you want our help to track down the source of where your father might be kept?
Velameestra Windrunner says: That’s correct.
Relhana Blaque says: You understand that while Ravenholdt sees the Syndicate as a threat, a rival to be eliminated, and a pox on the world, we don’t work for free.
Velameestra Windrunner says: And I’m willing to pay.
Vel produces the favor, and Relhana smiles.
Relhana Blaque says: I’m glad that it made it. I imagine you will want to speak to the lord of the manor about the details?
Velameestra Windrunner says: That would be wise, yes.
Relhana Blaque says: Of course. Then I suppose it’s unfortunate we already took your coats. The balcony can be a bit chilly, you see, and that’s where he is nowadays.
Vel raises an eyebrow.
A moment later, the servant boy returns with a tray of refreshments. He hands a glass of wine to Victor, and Relhana also plucks one from the tray. Lee excuses herself and disappears into another room of the manor.
Relhana Blaque says: Thank you. If you would be so kind to fetch everyone’s cloaks, and my own as well.
Servant Boy says: Ah, yes.
He runs to fetch the cloaks and helps everyone into them. He disappears, and then returns with Relhana’s cloak--which is beautiful and long with a patterned raven feather hem to the edge. It’s a very familiar cloak. It’s the same cloak that Tess took when she left.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: How… did you acquire that?
Relhana Blaque says: Oh, this? This is just a memento of mine. I acquired it from a friend.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: It’s a very small world.
Relhana smiles.
Relhana Blaque says: Indeed it is. Indeed it is, Gilveradin. Right this way!
She leads the group up the staircase and through a few halls until they get to a doorway. She opens the door, and reveals a well-furnished balcony. There are some plants in a covered terrarium as well. Relhana walks in, her arms crossed behind her.
However, as the rest of the group enters, it quickly becomes evident that there is no one else there.
Relhana Blaque says: This should afford us a deal of privacy.
Relhana turns to face the group again.
Relhana Blaque says: Unfortunately if you are seeking to speak with Lord Jorach…
She gestures to a vase sitting on a table.
Relhana Blaque says: He died several years ago.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I assume you’re the lady of the house now?
Relhana smiles.
Relhana Blaque says: I suppose I should thank him. For it was in his will and testament he legitimized me. Allow me to properly introduce myself. I am Relhana Ravenholdt. I was known as Relhana Blaque some years ago. But… that is no longer the case.
Relhana smiles again.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: And so. You come to me for information, and as an ally against the Syndicate, and for finding your father. That is an equivalent payment for eliminating that particular threat of mine. I suppose I have you to thank for that, my lord.
She gestures to Victor.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: As you were the one that swung the blade, but all of you in your own ways helped eliminate him. Camrus Bloodstar… was a thorn in my side. One that was a bit too close for comfort. His death is a boon to everyone, myself perhaps slightly more than most. So a fair trade, I believe. Tell me. What have you found of your father’s disappearance, your highness?
She looks to Uther.
Uther Menethil says: Very little, I’m afraid. A vague note found on one of the assailants.
Uther extends a copy of the cryptic note they had found, and Rehlana takes it and retrieves a pair of reading spectacles to look.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: Seven sided stars…
Relhana laughs.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: And I thought I had a flair for the dramatic theatrics. Well it’s obvious that the lions are likely in reference to Stormwind. I imagine you assumed as much. Bring the king, kill the rest, no survivors… the mountains run crimson with fire and blood, that could be any number of mountains unfortunately. Fire and blood is evocative of the color of red, the Red Ridge Mountains, perhaps, but that could be anything. It’s proximity to Stormwind could mean something. Prove your teeth have not been dulled by the citrine eagle and there may be a place for you in the new world… Sycophants, clearly. Megalomaniacs. God? Truly?
Relhana smirks.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: I’ll have to show Fahrad this later, he’ll find it absurd. Well. It’s clear to me that this God is not a member of the Syndicate. ‘Prove that your teeth have not been dulled by the citrine eagle...’ that likely, I would surmise, is reference to the fact the Syndicate has been in recovery since your lord father bloodied their lip with his ascension.
She points to Victor.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: So this God likely hired them to do it. Who that is, I suppose, is another matter entirely.
Velameestra Windrunner says: They mentioned the name Holger when we spoke to one of the bodies.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: Holger… Holger Holger Holger… I am not familiar with the name directly, but I believe it is likely that is someone within the Syndicate. Now the difficult part. The Syndicate is difficult to stamp out because so many of the nobility are part of it. Crush one noble house and its resources will be absorbed by the others. They are separate but linked in certain ways. And so that leads us to what has to be done. Unfortunately, that means you have likely one chance, one single leader, from amongst the Alteraci nobles. When you crush them the others will likely go into hiding. You have to thusly ensure you pick a good one. It may not be the right one, but one nonetheless.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I don’t suppose if you know if any of them have any direct affiliations with mages?
Relhana Ravenholdt says: Ha ha! That is very interesting as well, because as a matter of fact, there is one I can think of. I don’t know if I’d call her a mage, but she does have some magical talent.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Enough to set up a teleportation circle?
Relhana Ravenholdt says: That I can’t say. But if they had a teleportation circle, that would perhaps be linked to someone else, one of these other people, perhaps this ‘God’ fellow. What do you know of the Perenolde family?
Victor Prestor says: I unfortunately don’t know much of what occurred before my birth. So I know only what the history books tell you.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: Well, allow me to give you a bit of a history lesson. Aiden Perenolde and queen Isolde, both of course no longer living, had two children. Aliden Perenolde, the younger of the two, was their son, but they had an elder daughter as well--less known than the other one. Beve Perenolde. She was said to have some gift with magic, but she was obviously never allowed to study in Dalaran. The fact that she was… well, you know. Needless to say, I have reason to believe she was likely trained by hedge magi--mages not registered with the city-state of Dalaran. Dangerous folk, sometimes. She herself is to be considered a hedge mage, and I believe she is a member of the Syndicate. Likely a powerful leader alongside her brother, though neither of them have been sighted since King Prestor’s ascension. There is, of course, Isiden Perenolde, Aiden’s nephew from his younger brother. Last I heard of him, however, he was in Gilneas, so I can’t say much to his whereabouts. He was King Greymane’s champion to inherit the throne of Alterac, you see, but was outvoted. He hasn’t been seen since the wall came up. But I believe that if you were able to track down Aliden or Beve Perenolde, perhaps they might know more about this. I can’t say whether or not they are together or not, but if you find one, perhaps the other will come. Alterac is perhaps our best option.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Alterac is an expansive place to hide.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: It is! Doubly so given they can be in other locations as well. The Syndicate is known to have activities in Stromgarde as well. But if I know Aliden Perenolde, he likely won’t want to be far from his home. The Perenolde family is ambitious… and stupid because of it. Aliden Perenolde would be the closest thing to a de facto leader--one of the most important members of the various families that rule the Syndicate. Destroying him would be beneficial for everyone. Myself included.
Velameestra Windrunner says: There were three other names. Perhaps you may also know them. Terance Gorgonne, Cyrus Therepentous, and Kathal Lynch.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: I’m not immediately familiar with the other two, though from what I understand they all made their claim to fame in helping to unseat the Syndicate and Perenolde. Gorgonne… it’s possible they have connections to the Syndicate. Many amongst the lords do. But if I knew everyone in the Syndicate my job would be much easier. But if they have been implicated at all, it would be safe to assume that all three of them likely have some affiliation with the Syndicate. That is how I would approach this situation.
Velameestra Windrunner says: They were not recovered from the attack. They were the only three that weren’t, which raises some suspicion.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: Keep the king, kill the rest. It strikes as passing odd that other knights would disappear and not check in, wouldn’t you agree? However if all these people were members of the nobility and knights, perhaps you should speak with a member of the nobility you trust, Prince Victor. Perhaps one of them could give you more knowledge of their whereabouts. Maybe they’ve returned. Or maybe they are implicit and your people should be warned. I dare say you can stride into Castle Alterac much more easily than I can--or at least more publicly. It may be worth gathering information from both sides of the law in this particular instance.
Victor thinks for a moment.
Victor Prestor says: Honestly, if we were to return to Alterac… I was likely going to ask if I could return home anyways. I should give a report in person to my father, at the bare minimum. And ensure he is sending support to the front lines. It would ease my mind knowing your people aren’t fighting alone, and that our people have more backup. And perhaps we can look further into this as you said, m’lady.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: Excellent. When it becomes time for you to make your move, I will be ready to assist you. I’ll send three of my most gifted assassins. They’ll meet you in Alterac when the time is right. That should be sufficient, at the very least, to draw distraction while you infiltrate, and get you in. I would go myself, but you understand my duties have called me elsewhere. I hope that is a sufficient payment for what you’ve done for me, Velameestra.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Of course. Far more than we would have had otherwise.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: Excellent. There’s a small tavern at the edge of the Alterac Valley at a town known as Gallows Corner. When the time is right, send word to the innkeeper. Tell him ‘a murder of crows is naught to a solitary raven.’ That will be enough to signal my people to meet you when you decide to make your move, and they’ll assist you. As long as you provide that and a location, they will rendezvous post haste. I trust together you’ll make quick work of whoever it is you opt to target.
Velameestra Windrunner says: That is the goal. You have our thanks.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: Of course! Anything for one who accomplished such an important task for me. Is there aught else I can assist you with? As my esteemed guests you are welcome to stay if you need.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Actually… there is one small thing.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: Of course, what is it, my darling?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: is there a way for me to contact you later? I have an idea of some people that may want to purchase some information… but I’m wise enough to know better than to arrange something on their behalf without conferring with them first.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: Of course! I can’t say I have what they seek, but… I am more than willing to negotiate. There are plenty of ways to contact my agents. I’ve been led to understand your sister may have uncovered a couple of them. But you’re always free to write me, darling.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: And address it to… the Lady of Ravenholdt Manor?
Relhana Ravenholdt says: Certainly! I have nothing to hide. Not from anyone wise enough to send a message.
Gil nods.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I expected something much more complicated.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: An old fashioned lady like myself enjoys getting a letter every once in a while. Those pesky sendings are too short and abridged. But! I am not fool enough to not accept what must be done.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Then you may hear from me soon.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: Excellent! I look forward to it, darling.
The door behind them opens, and the servant boy appears.
Servant Boy says: My lady, Fahrad has returned with a curious guest that I believe you may want to have a word with. He’s in the basement if you would like to join.
Relhana chuckles.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: Wonderful. Well then, I suppose I should be going. You’re all welcome to stay if you require.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Your hospitality is appreciated, but we have a way home.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: Of course. It was a pleasure doing business with you, and if you have anything else you require, simply ask.
Vel nods, and Relhana smiles before turning back to the servant boy.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: Now, my friend, who did we catch snooping around the caves this time?
Relhana and the servant go to disappear beyond the door, but Relhana pauses for a moment.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: Actually, one more thing. Perhaps an offer. You were familiar with this cloak, Gilveradin?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Fairly familiar with the girl who used to own it as well, yes.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: Ah! So you were her companions. I had a feeling.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Like I said, it’s a small world.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: Yes, and that leads me to inquire… you would not happen to have any of the other pieces that were with this cloak, do you?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: We did.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: A shame.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Yes. I can tell you the bracers are on the other side of the ban’dinoriel.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: Ah. I see. Well I will have to do what I can to acquire them. If you would happen to retrieve any other mementos of the Raven, I would pay handsomely for you to return them to me.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: That would be useful.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: A personal request of mine.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I assume there’s a connection?
Relhana Ravenholdt says: My mother got around.
Relhana smirks.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: Ta ta! I shall see you another time. After all, I would not want to keep Fahrad waiting.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: So she’s okay then?
Relhana Ravenholdt says: The princess? Oh yes, of course. She traded me this cloak for assistance in crossing the wall. I believe she desires to be reunited with her dear old daddy. I do hope she likes what she finds beyond. It might not be quite what she remembers.
The servant boy clears his throat.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: Yes yes, one moment. Please. Sorry. Guests call--
Gilveradin Windrunner says: One more question, do you know anything about Syndicate members near Grim Batol stealing anything?
Relhana Ravenholdt says: Syndicate members near Grim Batol? I don’t believe I’ve heard of them operating so far south. And… stealing from Wildhammer dwarves seems ill-advised. They are terrible grudge holders. Or perhaps they stole from… Kul Tiras?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: They stole from a group that is going to hunt them down.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: I see. Well I do hope that whoever was responsible for that is prepared for whatever hunting will come to pass. But you’ve got me at a disadvantage, Gilveradin.
Gil shrugs.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Not my place to say.
Relhana Ravenholdt says: I suppose not.
Relhana and the servant boy disappear to attend to her new guest.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Right. Lets go collect Remnii then.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes, we can likely leave Dalaran tomorrow morning. Esara, if you wouldn’t mind? We can handle the horses and leave.
Vel offers the 50 gold pieces needed for a teleportation circle
Esara Verrinde says: Yes! Though, before we go. Gil, what was that all about? Was that about those things we saw earlier? You know.
Gil raises an eyebrow.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: You know what?
Esara Verrinde says: Something isn’t right.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I’m just hoping you’ll trust me.
Esara sighs.
Esara Verrinde says: You know, you are clearly deeper in this than I am. I’m just saying… nevermind. You’re right. Lets go get the horses, and we can begin the ritual.
They start to head out, but as they do, they can hear screams echoing from inside the manor. Multiple screams.
Uther Menethil says: Don’t like the sound of leaving that at my back.
Esara Verrinde says: Something’s not right. Do we keep going or… but this doesn’t seem like our business.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Not to mention if we get too far into this we are at a massive disadvantage.
They are clearly screams of pain.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I agree with Esara, something isn’t right.
Outside, some of the people are drawn to the manor, but they then go back to their business.
Velameestra Windrunner says: If we make waves about this we will have an entire manor of assassins on our backs. And I don’t like our odds.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Esara. What’s your intuition telling you?
Esara Verrinde says: I think she knew something about what you were talking about. Her tone shifted. And it wasn’t just her, it was the servant too. I’m just saying… if you want to look into it more, it’ll be a lot harder when we’re hundreds of miles away. I don’t think it’s a good idea… but I’ve dealt with people enough to know something is up.
Gil’s face pales.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: They shouldn’t have taken it.
Esara is silently asking Gil what the group is doing.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Vel, they’re all on high alert looking for it. This is really big.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Be that as it may, what do you want us to do? If we go prying around a literal assassin’s guild, we’re not going to be doing anything with knives in our backs.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: No, we need to get back to Dalaran. Quickly.
Vel just gestures somewhat dramatically to Esara, who was in the process of doing that anyway.
Esara Verrinde says: Alright! Away we go!
She finishes the spell, and as soon as they materialize in the study, Gil looks like he’s about ready to sprint out of the room. Talath and Remnii are waiting for them.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Vel, I need you to find where he is so I can talk to him.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Alright. Alright.
Vel shoots a sending to Krasus.
Velameestra Windrunner says: My brother needs to speak with you, where are you?
Archmage Krasus says: Did something happen? Are you in Dalaran? Nevermind. I’ll be at the manor soon. If you’re not there, send me back.
Vel looks back to Gil.
Velameestra Windrunner says: He’ll be arriving shortly. He’s coming to see you.
Gil nods and starts to pace. Esara puts a hand on his shoulder.
Esara Verrinde says: Gil, calm down. Whatever is happening, whatever you’re going through, it’s alright. We’ll figure this out.
Talath Dawnsworn says: Does… anyone need anything? You all look terrible.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: A shot. Of the strongest thing in this house.
Talath Dawnsworn says: Alright, I can probably do that.
Vel sighs, as she’s been trying to get alcohol out of the house.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Vel.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: He wasn’t human.
Vel’s eyes cross slightly as she puts together that he’s referring to the man he talked to with the dragonspawn.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Oh. Alright. Why don’t you go wait in the den.
Gil nods, and scurries off. Meanwhile, Vel wipes her hand down her face, clearly done. Everyone else also starts to disperse, but Vel requests for Victor to hang back for a moment.
Victor Prestor says: Alright. I don’t know what you’re doing right now, but clearly Gil has some connection to these… red dragons. Whatever those creatures were. Those dragonoid things. I would very much like to know what’s going on, Velameestra.
Velameestra Windrunner says: ...That particular secret is not mine to give.
Victor Prestor says: Then I hope Gil will tell it.
Velameestra Windrunner says: That is on my brother. But what I wanted to speak with you about.. How much do you know about your sister?
Victor Prestor says: About my sister? What does that have to do with anything?
Velameestra Windrunner says: It was something Taretha said. It’s a wide shot, but every avenue is ultimately worth exploring. Your last name, Prestor, comes from a different word. It references a meteor. A cosmic body. It emphasizes its relation with fire. It’s very wordy. The note referred to the seven-sided stars blinding the lion, it’s an astrological sign… your sister is an advisor in Stormwind. Like I said, it’s a wide shot, so that’s why I figured I would ask how much you trusted her.
Victor Prestor says: ...Velameestra are you implying that my sister is involved in this?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I’m saying I don’t know. That’s why I’m asking how much you know about her.
Victor Prestor says: I know a good deal. I spent time with her, though her duties as court conjurer now keep her away for some time. She is my half-sister. She’s one of the only people I trust. I don’t like the direction this line of inquiry is going.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It’s just… in my experiences in Silvermoon and everything else, I’ve found it to be unwise to discredit anything regardless of how obscure it may seem. It’s just something to consider. People have secrets. Like you’ve observed. And sometimes it’s not for the best. But obviously I don’t know her.
Victor Prestor says: And sometimes they lead you to accuse my sister.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Which is why I am talking to you first. It will not leave this room. I just wanted to bring it to your attention.
Victor Prestor says: To be quite frank, I believe you are grasping at straws, Velameestra. I appreciate that you are grasping at them, that is how I imagine we will solve this riddle, but that particular straw is one of the only things I have.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Alright. Consider it dropped.
Victor Prestor says: If you’re so concerned, then perhaps if we head to Stormwind for whatever reason, then I can likely get you an audience with her. I imagine she would want to see her brother. Perhaps you can ask her yourself. I’ve already sent word to her in the missive with Vincent. I’m expecting, if anything, she can provide some insight or assistance.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I hope she can. Genuinely.
Victor Prestor says: And yet I can’t help but feel like it’s not, coming from you, Vel.
Vel nods, ultimately at a loss for what else she could say.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Alright. I’m going to look into some of the names we found then.
She turns back to her study, giving Victor the clearance to leave.
Victor winds up in the den as well, clearly in a bad mood and talking to himself. Remnii, who had joined the others in the den, sees him wince and grab the side of his head.
Remnii says: Another headache?
Victor Prestor says: Yes, I have lots of them in present company. Not you.
Remnii says: If you keep thinking like that, everyone will give you a headache, Victor.
She uses lesser restoration to appease the headache.
Remnii says: How frequently are these headaches, if you don’t mind me asking? We can… likely go somewhere else. Matters of privacy are important in health.
Gil is muttering in gnoll in the background.
Victor Prestor says: It’s… not frequent. It just happens now and then. I’m not great at managing stress, and I’m under a great deal of it.
Remnii says: Yet, if they are migraines, there are things that could be done for them. If you would like to discuss, I understand you just got back.
Victor Prestor says: I suppose it wouldn’t hurt. You know much more about it than I do.
Remnii calls for Talath and asks if he has any herbal tea. He said he might have some somewhere, and he goes to look. Remnii aways with Victor back to the room he had been claiming. He doesn’t talk much.
Victor Prestor says: I guess I’m just frustrated. These things I seem to be completely unaware of. Velameestra has secrets. Gilveradin has secrets. I’m sick of the secrets.
Remnii nods.
Remnii says: This world has many layers. And…
She shrugs.
Remnii says: And if nothing else, it may be different, I don’t know them well. And yet… you know, Victor, everybody knows me and I don’t know them. While I have much to share, I come from an entirely different world. It’s hard to share everything, especially things close to the heart, or things that are frightening. Things that make you feel alone. Or perhaps if you feel no one will understand and you will be persecuted for what you know, what you understand. For example. Things are complex.
Victor is clearly shifting a lot.
Remnii says: I don’t want to presume, Victor. I don’t know you well. While I hope to change that, I find myself fearful about some of the things I will share in the future. I tell you what. If you want, I will tell you something… it is a new secret. Not one that I’ve had for more than two or three days, but it is something that is not surprising, but deeply concerning. And I’m afraid what everyone will say. And by then, if you want to talk, I will listen without commentary unless you want it. And I will be able to keep a secret better than your reputation.
Victor Prestor says: I would hope so. Alright. I did just say I hated secrets, and I would not be opposed to be privy.
Remnii says: I did intend to tell the rest of the party--
There’s suddenly a knock as Talath returns with the tea, and Remnii thanks him then returns to Victor. Victor pours some tea for her as well, and thanks him.
Remnii says: Do you know what an eredar is?
Victor Prestor says: I know it’s a demon.
Remnii says: Yes. A few days ago a supposed free agent of the eredar people, so a demon, but not one that serves the Burning Legion. He sought me out. Victor, he was right in front of the Violet Hold. The Kirin Tor already know, and I’m doing what I can to be honest about such things, but I was sought out by a third party as the eredar are a… the broken remnants of my people. The draenei are closer to the source, pre-demonized, or… pre-fel. But this will come to light more in time, I’ve been trying to figure out how to explain a 25,000 year conflict. But one sought me out. There are two names that all who come across the Burning Legion will know. Kil’jaeden and Archimonde. Powerful eredar who once were a part of the ruling body of our home planet, along with my vakas, and he… he was the only one who broke away. One of Kil’jaeden, the Great Deceiver’s, one of his high generals, wishes to speak with me soon, to the point that he sent tribute to the prophet’s daughter. And there was a demon here in this city looking for me.
Victor Prestor says: Right outside the prison.
Remnii says: Correct.
Victor Prestor says: That’s a bold statement.
Remnii says: I know. And, Victor, wherever I go, the Legion will follow, and this is another piece of that. I have an amulet of nondetection. I have done everything to cover my tracks, and someone found me. He said it was hard, but… I suppose I was led into a false sense of security with the ban’dinorial up. While there are powerful demons that wish nothing more than my torture, I can say I am afraid to tell the party because I am a threat by virtue of being alive.
Victor Prestor says: Remnii. With all due respect, I don’t believe my cousin has the ability to turn down someone who needs his protection. This Kil’jaeden and Archimonde could show up to drag you back, and he would likely stand in front of you. To at least buy you the time to escape. He’s a fool, an imbecile, but he is loyal, so much so it will get him killed. Again.
Remnii says: You realize he wouldn’t have been killed had I not shown up.
Victor Prestor says: Perhaps not there, but he would find a way. If you are concerned with telling the others, start with him.
Remnii says: I will tell them as a whole.
Victor Prestor says: I do not trust Velameestra, but she is smart. She may know a way to counter it.
Remnii says: If you are sure, there are two individuals in the Legion I have contact to still. Amongst a literal Legion of thousands, of course there are dissenters. One of them gave up a sending stone I had made for them.
Victor furrows his brow.
Remnii says: I am, I believe the other part of this secret that I will likely speak of at another juncture, is for the goal of bringing the Legion to heal, and healing the damage they have done, I have half a mind to contact this demon again.
Victor Prestor says: Well it sounds like an obvious trap.
Remnii says: This I know. This is not something I will do anytime soon, it is simply my first impulse, and perhaps part of my feels guilty for contemplating it.
Victor Prestor says: I can’t say if it’s a wise idea. Again, if anyone was going to be able to give you advice, it would likely be the others. And you’ve helped me thusfar, you shared this information… I would not be a very honorable prince if I didn’t return the favor. Once this is all finished, once we bring justice to the people that did this, and retrieve King Arthas, I will do what I can to help you, if you would have my blade still.
Remnii gives a small smile.
Remnii says: I’m certain we will need everyone to help. Your blade, I already know, will be most helpful, Victor. I simply want to pay it forward. I do appreciate your kindness. This world is a scary place.
Victor swallows.
Victor Prestor says: And one that’s full of secrets.
He looks down for a moment, thinking.
Victor Prestor says: I was not entirely truthful with you, about the headaches.
Remnii leans forward.
Victor Prestor says: I don’t know how to say this. I don’t know what I’m going to accomplish, I don’t think you can help me, but please, I don’t want to go to anyone else. Don’t tell anyone. I… the headaches began a couple days after Uther’s birthday. After Hallow’s End. The day before my own birthday. But that’s not all.
He fidgets for a moment and starts to pull off some of his armor. He removes his gloves, and then rolls up the sleeve of his tunic. All up his right arm, down the upper part of his hand, and a bit on his shoulder, there are hard, black patches of scales. He looks at them with a mixture of confusion, terror, and revulsion.
Victor Prestor says: I don’t know what this is. But it’s… it started that day, and it’s only gotten worse. It started off as just a bit, but… I swear everyday there’s more, and I don’t know what it is.
Remnii observes the scales with an earnest degree of study.
Remnii says: Do they cause you pain? Do they itch?
Victor Prestor says: They do sometimes, yes, and the headaches began at the same time. And… so did this…
He flicks his hand and fire appears in his hand.
Victor Prestor says: I’ve never been able to use magic before, even the simplest, and now… Velameestra said something about arcane corruption. I don’t know if that has something to do with it. I don’t know what I did to make this happen. But I don’t like it.
Remnii stays silent for a moment.
Remnii says: You likely knew when you told me, I would not be able to tell you much. I have many sicknesses in my time, but the illnesses of this world are lost on me. That said, thank you for sharing.
Victor Prestor says: I don’t know why I told you. I just needed…
Remnii says: Well. Tomorrow we can start… something. And perhaps we can rule a few things out. I can remove curses. Perhaps we can try that.
Victor Prestor says: If it could work… if anything could work..
Remnii says: The more you can see what it is not, perhaps we can narrow it down. In the meantime, know that if you have headaches, or an itch, if you want to…. Perhaps… I can at least help the headaches ebb. Do you have siblings?
Victor Prestor says: A sister.
Remnii says: Is she a mage?
Victor Prestor says: She is.
Remnii says: Perhaps, you have some sort of latent ability. Many secrets have secrets. And so thus, perhaps reaching out to her… I’m sure with everything going on, she would not mind hearing from you. And while I don’t mean to make assumptions about your family, and the complexities therein… if this continues. If she cannot provide answers, you know, I have a problem where I sometimes don’t follow my advice, and I know you don’t trust some, but if you find yourself in need, a collective mind is better than not. And I will not push you to do so, but for now… while I do not have medical facilities I could, I would prescribe decent amounts of bed rest, caffeine for headaches, and avoid alcohol.
Victor Prestor says: That is… unfortunate. I was hoping… right. Maybe if I can get a hold of Katrana. She has a teleportation circle. She may know more of what’s happening to me. Thank you, for that. I didn’t even think of that. She’s the court conjurer of Stormwind.
Remnii gives him some more reassuring words and offers a hug, in which he takes as his secret is revealed.
As Gil is pacing back and forth downstairs, Ara’shel is pacing back and forth behind him. Then there’s a knock on the front door, and Gil interrupts the knock as he rushes to answer it. Krasus asks if this is something they should speak of alone, or if they should involve everyone. Gil says they should involve everyone, clearly panicked.
They all gather in the study, and Vel flashes Victor a look, as it’s clear that he’s probably going to be informed of some things going on.
At that moment, Rhonin also returns, and Krasus tells Vel that she can get him involved as well. Meanwhile, Rhonin is yelling from the entryway.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Vel? Did I see Krasus come in here? Do I want to be here?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes. We’re in the study. You should come in here.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Oh boy. Alright. Ow! Stupid cat…
Rhonin makes his way to the study and pauses upon seeing the literal crowd gathered in it.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Oh. Everyone’s back. Welcome back, everyone. Archmage. It’s good to see you. I’m going to take a seat, I have a feeling something is happening here from the large group of-- I’m just going to be quiet.
Rhonin sits down.
Remnii says: Welcome home!
Rhonin Windrunner says: Thank you Remnii.
Archmage Krasus says: Well, Gilveradin, do you want to start, or do you want me to speak?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I can start. Um. So, while we were doing our investigation in Silvermoon, I’m sure some of you remember my botched mission to get information on Borel Skyfire. In any case. Upon meeting with him, I got involved…
He has Ara’shel drop his disguise, revealing his draconic form.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I got involved with a dragon. The large red wyrm flying over Silvermoon. That was Borel. His actual name was Tyranastrasz. And we made a… pact.
Archmage Krasus says: Yes.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I’m sure you’ve seen the strange magic I’ve been wielding since. But that leads me to what happened in Alterac. That man there was not a man. I assume his name would be fully… Morvenstrasz?
Archmage Krasus says: Close enough, yes.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: And I think Ravenholdt captured him. And he’s who we heard on the way out.
Archmage Krasus says: That’s impressive.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: More impressive, I think they stole that egg.
Victor Prestor says: Wait a moment, the egg we stole from the Syndicate?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: It never made it here.
Archmage Krasus says: Let me explain. I am a red dragon. Tyranastrasz was one of the eldest of our kind, now that he’s no longer with us, I’ve taken his place at our leader’s side, along with the others she’s chosen as her consorts.
If Rhonin could have spit-took, he would have.
Rhonin Windrunner says: ... Hoooolyyyy shit.
Archmage Krasus says: I understand, that’s a surprise.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Actually answers more questions than anything. You’ve been a dragon the entire time?
Archmage Krasus says: Yes, Rhonin, that’s how these things work. This egg… it was not just a simple egg. It was… it was an experiment. One conducted by one of our own. I don’t know Mostrasz personally, but if he was captured, that’s frightening. I’ll need to contact him. This egg was taken from the black flight some many years ago. It was dormant for a time. A number of eggs were liberated. They… we had reason to believe that there was a way we could do something to save the black dragonflight. I don’t know the details, but that egg was a culmination of that research. Long ago, the leader of the black dragonflight descended into madness, and his flight was drug with him.
Remnii raises a hand.
Remnii says: If you do not mind me asking, perhaps some know otherwise, as this is the first time I heard more than a name. Are there are any colors, or how did this descent happen?
Archmage Krasus says: That… I cannot answer. But…
He then goes in to explain the black flight and the colors of the flights. However, since their madness, they have become agents of destruction.
Archmage Krasus says: The egg that was taken from us, that I liberated for our own purposes, it was first taken from the black flight, and after the experiments, it was stolen back. You liberated it from them, I imagine the Syndicate members were hired by a black dragon in disguise. That it is now out of our hands once again, it’s dangerous. Troubling. I cannot help but fear the black dragons are behind this once again.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Krasus.
Archmage Krasus says: Yes?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Is there something in the Redridge mountains?
Archmage Krasus says: Not that I know of, no.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Because the leader of the people that I suspect stole the egg specifically mentioned them.
Archmage Krasus says: I can’t say for certain. I can attempt to confirm that information, but… my domain is much further north, you see. But I can see what I can learn. I know that black dragons have been spotted there. I don’t know if there’s a connection, but there could be. Something to remember. Now, allow me to make something clear. Gil’s powers are his own. He is under no geas or compulsion. If that was a concern of any of yours, that is not the case. I can assure you at least, of that much. And also…
He looks at Rhonin.
Archmage Krasus says: My desire to protect this city is real, and my presence here is secret. If anything is revealed, I will be forced to discredit your words.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Of course. I don’t think they’d believe me anyway.
Archmage Krasus says: Well then. It may be wise for me to contact Mostrasz. If he’s still alive, I want to see what he has to say.
He holds his hands out, and his eyes begin to glow as he starts to cast a spell. Vel recognizes instant summons, and after a minute, a perfect spherical crystal orb is in his hand. Much like the one in Borel’s office.
Archmage Krasus says: A moment please.
He closes his eyes again, and the next time he opens them, his eyes are an amberish gold. The ball begins to swirl, and images stream by it. Mountains. Forests. Krasus furrows his brow at the orb, and his eyes widen.
Archmage Krasus says: What?
There is clearly a communication happening telepathically.
Archmage Krasus says: I see. Understandable, Mostrasz. Return home. Tend to your wounds. I’ll speak with Alexstrasza.
His eyes cease glowing and he lowers the orb.
Archmage Krasus says: That is… not what I expected. Mostrasz is alive… they… they broke his legs, which I imagine is what prompted the screams you heard, but he’s been released to deliver a message. Apparently, the egg has hatched. He calls himself Wrathion, and he’s made it clear that he has no intention of returning. This was my first and final warning, he said.
Krasus takes a deep breath.
Archmage Krasus says: That… certainly complicates things. A great deal. You say you’re working with these Ravenholdt people?
Velameestra Windrunner says: They offered us information and assassins to help take down a member of the Syndicate, yes.
Archmage Krasus says: Well. Use caution dealing with them. I’ll learn what is to be done next. But I don’t like the sound of this.
Velameestra Windrunner says: When he said not returning… is this Wrathion with Ravenholdt then?
Archmage Krasus says: It would appear so. Mostrasz showed me an image. A young half-elven boy with dark skin. That’s the form he chose to take.
Velameestra Windrunner says: We spoke with him.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: He pretended to be a servant boy.
Archmage Krasus says: Well he’s crafty. But that doesn’t do him any good in the ability in which we could trust him. We have no way of knowing if he’s truly free of the madness of the black flight, despite what his claims are. He claimed as much, obviously.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I suppose we just… keep a distant contact with him?
Archmage Krasus says: It will not be my decision to make. But I should report this, and make sure Morastrasz returns safely. I’ll return to Dalaran shortly, but I should go. I’m sorry, for all of you, this is a lot to take in, but it seems you’ve stumbled upon something much bigger than any of us. The fate of Azeroth could depend on what is done next. But that does not need to be your concern. You have your own mystery to look into. Just be careful, and whatever you do.... Be careful. If this Wrathion tries to contact you, guard yourself. And any that may possibly know, give them a wide berth. I’ll keep in touch, Gilveradin. As frequently as I can.
Velameestra Windrunner says: If we need to contact you, you’ll either be here, or at your other location, correct?
Archmage Krasus says: Yes. We have a refuge in the northern highlands, as you suspected. I will be there, if I am not here. If that’s not the case I’ll inform you as best I can.
Remnii gives Victor a questioning look, and her white eyes flicker to Krasus.
However, with that, Krasus disappears.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Well. That’s a lot.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Yeah. At least he didn’t turn into his dragon form. They’re big. They’re so big.
Rhonin Windrunner says: That probably would have broken-- yes, that’s very good. He… was a dragon the entire time. I talked back to him as a kid. He was a dragon. Back then.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: He probably thought it was hilarious.
Rhonin Windrunner says: He probably did. I feel like a damned fool.
Velameestra Windrunner says: At least the red flight are guardians of life.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Oh yes, that’s good. At least it wasn’t an *ancient being* mocking this poor-- no, it’s fine.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: He’s only about 15,000. Apparently that’s young.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Oh. Well. That aside.
Gil looks at Victor.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I apologize for keeping that from you, but that wasn’t quite my secret to tell.
Victor Prestor says: No, no I understand. That’s a lot. That’s a lot, a lot.
Vel nods along with Gil’s words.
Victor Prestor says: So that boy was a dragon, and that archmage was a dragon. Are any of you dragons? Is there anything else I need to know?
Remnii says: I did not even know what that was until just now.
Velameestra Windrunner says: When they’re disguised they’re effectively non discernible. Which is the main issue.
Victor Prestor says: Well. Isn’t that wonderful.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: They do tend to install themselves in positions of power, though.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Likely for goals well beyond our comprehension.
Gil shrugs.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Better to keep an eye on people if no one suspects you, I assume.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Most of them appear to be competent, so it’s not like I’m going to be complaining.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Most of them are mages too. I wonder if there’s some sort of magic connection. They certainly granted it to me.
Gil flicks his hand open, summoning a flame in the palm of his hand.
Victor Prestor says: Well this was… enlightening, I suppose is the word for it.
At that point, the group hears the front door open.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Ah, that must be the boys. Good. I was starting to get worried.
The door to the study cracks open, and Giramar peeks in.
Giramar Windrunner says: Am I interrupting something?
Velameestra Windrunner says: No, you’re fine. What is it?
Giramar Windrunner says: Oh. Okay.
He enters.
Giramar Windrunner says: There’s just something I wanted to show you. Something I found on the way back.
Giramar opens his hands, and in them is a small squirrel. It’s Captain Kernal. He’s not moving. Giramar then throws Captain Kernal into the center of the room, startling several of the group as the behavior is incredibly out of character.
Giramar then smiles in a very uncharacteristic smile, and his form swifts and swirls with shadowy magic and fel energy. Two wings sprout, and the succubus runs her hands through her hair as she observes a few people go for their weapons.
Smug Succubus says: Uh uh uh, not so fast. I am here to deliver a message. If you wish the boys to be returned, meet at the Cantrips and Crows at the tavern tonight. 20,000 gold pieces. It’s good to see you again.
She looks at Uther.
Smug Succubus says: It’s been some time since you humiliated me.
They recognize her as one of the succubi they had fought in Duskwither Spire. Uther had turned her, and forced her to flee.
Smug Succubus says: They’ll be waiting. I would arrive before the sun rises, if I were you, or there might only be one to collect.
She laughs, and then she disappears.
