December 11th

Remnii had gone to Victor’s room early in the morning. She is now sporting some new jewelry she had commissioned from Talath.

Victor Prestor says: My, you’re looking more fanciful than last time.
Remnii says: I had time to commission some work. My collection is far away somewhere, so I have to start from scratch.
Victor Prestor says: Not always a bad thing. Looks fetching.
Remnii says: Thank you!
Victor Prestor says: Anyways, what’s up?
Remnii says: We spoke last night. I did promise you I would have a spell prepared this morning.
Victor Prestor says: You act quickly. I just woke up.
Remnii says: I rise early.
Victor Prestor says: Well if you want to try.

Remnii enters his room and they close the door.

Remnii says: Of course, I promise nothing, but this can start to rule things out, if nothing else.

Victor nods and rolls his sleeve up to reveal the scales he had previously shown Remnii.

Remnii says: May I touch them? No surprises here.

Victor nods and she examines the scales closely, a gold magic illuminating her hand as she casts remove curse. The magic passes through the scales, but there is no discernible change.

Remnii says: Well, as I believe we both expected, you are not cursed.
Victor Prestor says: That would have been the easy solution, but not the one expected. But thank you for trying.
Remnii says: That said, I know it’s early, and I don’t wish to bombard you with serious talk. But, even if you don’t do it now, you do have a prime… well, reference? No, that’s not it. Source, yes. To ask more questions if at any time you wish. This Krasus who spoke with us. If he truly is a dragon.
Victor Prestor says: I suppose that’s an idea.
Remnii says: I believe he left already, and it’s not something I expect you to take lightly, and without any consideration, but I wanted to pose that to you. He clearly knows a great deal, to not only be an archmage, but something very important to this world.
Victor Prestor says: I suppose that is what he said.
Remnii says: Victor… I will not push you to do anything, this is your body and your experience, I simply wish to remind you, that if you wish to follow up, I have sending. But know that I am here, curse or no curse.
Victor Prestor says: My own problem is… well, I appreciate you and I had the same train of thought. However, I trust you heard what he said.

Remnii nods solemnly.

Victor Prestor says: These are black, and if you remember, he and his ilk are not exactly fans of that. I don’t know what this means, but I just get the sinking suspicion that if I go to some ancient being guising himself as an elf and showed him this, I suppose in a perfect world he would be able to tell me more about it, but does that sound like what would happen? I feel more likely he would take measures to ensure that what this is isn’t a threat to him and his people. He said, in no small way, that the black dragons were essentially his enemy. I don’t know what this is, and I’m… quite adept at the blade, but not adept enough to fight an ancient beast like that, nor would I wish to. I feel that would not be wise at all. I wager with a flick of a wrist he could banish me to a prison realm for all eternity, or just run me through. If he was simply an archmage and not a 7-story tall leviathan…

Remnii winces at the idea of a prison realm, but she holds out her palms as a peace offering.

Remnii says: But, you know, the more you know about this… your condition may be a now problem, but an immortal being is going to be here. This is not a reference for today or tomorrow, it’s just something that I wanted you to take note of. If they are guardians of life, they fought the Legion… I saw one, before he fell, but…

She smooths over his hand and tugs down his sleeve.

Remnii says: This does not have to be a one step process. The more you know as a whole, like watching and observing Gil… I know there’s a lot, but at this time learn about what they teach Gil. He should reflect as some sort of disciple of the red dragons, and you may be able to make a more informed decision. But for now, we can take it one step at a time. For now, the spell was a good first step. What do you say?
Victor Prestor says: Logical, and something to consider. I suppose the boy we saw… the one who was apparently a black dragon could be a source if he’s free of the madness. Not that I would trust going and speaking with him, but it’s another option as you said.
Remnii says: No decision has to be made right now.

Victor thanks her for the counsel, and they start to head down in pursuit of the scent of sweet bread.

Remnii says: Also, good morning!
Victor Prestor says: Yes, my apologies!
Remnii says: No, I came to your room!

They head downstairs and eat some of Talath’s delicious cinnamon egg toast.

As people make their way down through the course of the morning, Esara asks about the plans.

Victor suggests they should still go back to Alterac Castle to meet with his father, and learn what he had to say, and follow up on any sources that may be located there.

Remnii states that she is only a few days away from grasping common, and is wondering if she can meet with them again later. Gil suggests they take Indomitable and catch up with the group as a whole.

They sort out their trek to Alterac. There is a quicker way through the mountains, but that’s perilous, but the slower way through Alterac Valley is a lot safer. Ultimately, Alterac Castle is only about 100 miles, and Indomitable could likely reach it in a day or two through the mountains.

Uther wants to take the shorter route, and Victor states he doesn’t necessarily know the best route. However, he mentions that with Seria they should hopefully be able to find a path without much problem.

Rhonin suggests to Giramar and Galadin to take a personal day, and they can maybe spend it together seeing it was a nice day out. Galadin nods in agreement, as does Giramar.

In addition to the things that were gotten off the warlocks the previous night, the group had found three iron tokens with an inverted symbol of the Holy Light between the eyes of a mask. At the top of it is a small, jerking rune.

The rune is not a symbol Vel had ever seen before, but Remnii is able to recognize the half-mask. It’s the symbol of the Burning Legion, which she explains to the group.

Galadin then approaches Vel to talk before leaving with his dad and his brother.

Galadin Windrunner says: Do you have a minute to talk, Vel?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yeah, I was actually going to just come and find you.

They retreat to a quiet spot in her study.

Galadin Windrunner says: I’m… I’m really sorry.
Velameestra Windrunner says: You don’t need to apologize.
Galadin Windrunner says: I guess I just feel like I do. I’m really sorry. Okay. Let me explain. I… I met some people. Some of the people you met yesterday. I met them when you guys were on the road. I didn’t really understand who they were before, but I figured it out. Then I realized who they were and what they were doing, so I started trying to learn more about them, then I sort of realized I was… once you talked to me before you left I realized I was probably in over my head and I tried to leave… stop… talking to them so they would leave me alone, but I think they figured out who I was, and realized you… I think they wanted to use me to get to you, and t-they found me yesterday. And asked me why I didn’t show up as much. They figured it out. I was going to try and talk to them and tell them I wasn’t interested anymore, but I didn’t know how to say it, and I figured what happened yesterday would have happened, and I was right, so… I’m really… I’m really sorry this blew up in my face. I wasn’t trying to make this difficult or, shit, put Giramar in any danger, he… saw me talking to someone he didn’t realize, and he tried to follow, and they snagged him to and…

The entire time Galadin’s eyes are just fixed on the floor at Vel’s feet.

Velameestra Windrunner says: ...ultimately what’s done is done. And it turned out okay.
Galadin Windrunner says: I just wanted to help mom… you… and I just made it worse. I could have gotten really hurt. Thank you. I was really scared. But… you did a lot of really cool stuff though. I see why they’re afraid of you.

Vel makes a small scoffing noise.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I wouldn’t call it fear, but… I don’t suppose they happened to tell you anything during the talks you did have with them?
Galadin Windrunner says: Only a little bit. Um… I know that they… they had me learn a few things about the Sunreavers so I could avoid them. I didn’t even know they really existed until they told me to start looking into them. Uh… I know that some of them were from Silvermoon. Some of them were part of the situation there, but some were people living here, just living down low. And I know what they called themselves. They called themselves the Argus Wake. I don’t know what it means, but…

Vel mouths the name silently.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Well that’s a name.
Galadin Windrunner says: I don’t know much about anything else, I only dealt with, well, the guys you took care of. But it sounded to me like they weren’t really able to do much, um… in the city, which makes a lot of sense. It’s Dalaran. They sort of have a lot of mages. But they’re in other places. I’m not sure where, but…
Velameestra Windrunner says: That… and the fact they were pursuing money implies some things. They weren’t able to set up an infrastructure.

She sighs to herself.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I suppose, so you are aware, Galadin, the Sunreavers are an organization fashioned specifically to fight the warlocks. They were created after I spoke to Aethas about Silvermoon and my concerns that a repeat situation may occur here. That’s why they were so interested in them.
Galadin Windrunner says: Yeah. That makes a lot of sense. I-I didn’t know you were a part of starting that, though. I guess that’s… impressive.
Velameestra Windrunner says: More healthy paranoia that paid off. But. If you want to help, I might have a job for you. One that’s safer than infiltrating warlocks.
Galadin Windrunner says: If there’s something else I can do to help, something that can make up for this trouble, I… I don’t actually… I don’t want to be a burden. I just want to be Galadin, you know? I just want to be… I just want to help out.
Velameestra Windrunner says: And this will help out immensely. In the pursuit of Arthas, I was hoping you could look into information on hedge mages.
Galadin Windrunner says: Hedge mages? Yeah, I could do that.
Velameestra Windrunner says: A good starting point would probably be Theocritus. He appears in quite a bit of literature from what I understand. But many of the mages involved in the Syndicate are likely hedge mages and if you can find any information on more powerful ones, perhaps names or locations, it gives us the ability to follow up with them. I don’t have time to research it myself currently. But. It’s something that could also potentially double as a school project and should keep any eyes off of you as long as you don’t draw too much emphasis to it.
Galadin Windrunner says: Sure. Sure. I could do that. No problem. I might, um… I might need to borrow some funds.
Velameestra Windrunner says: If you need money, just ask either Talath or your father. I’m intending on getting Rhonin put on my account, and I trust them to be able to parse what’s needed.
Galadin Windrunner says: Yeah. I’ll start looking into that… well, not today, but as soon as I can.
Velameestra Windrunner says: And in addition to that…

Vel walks over to a book case and pulls the dagger off of it that they had recovered from the warlocks, the one she had previously gifted Galadin.

Galadin Windrunner says: Oh… geez…

Vel puts it on a table in front of him.

Velameestra Windrunner says: We… uncovered some information about this. It’s potentially worth a great deal, but it was my gift to you so it’s yours to do with what you will. I’m not going to keep it from you. I think you learned enough last night.
Galadin Windrunner says: I-I’d say….
Velameestra Windrunner says: And you’re starting to get good with it, for what it’s worth.
Galadin Windrunner says: Thanks. I mean, I’ve been doing a little bit of practicing. You said… it’s worth a lot of money?
Velameestra Windrunner says: There was someone we met who is willing to pay quite a bit for it.
Galadin Windrunner says: So… if I wanted to do that, maybe not now, but eventually…
Velameestra Windrunner says: If you wanted to do that in the future I could get it sold for you, yes. And that money would be yours.

Galadin gives a small smirk.

Galadin Windrunner says: Not going to share with me your super secret contacts?

Vel raises an eyebrow.

Galadin Windrunner says: Well, I’m sure it probably has something to do with that Ravenholdt stuff you were looking into. Right?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Good guess.
Galadin Windrunner says: Well, I’ll keep it mind, anyways. I don’t want to get rid of it right now. It’s a little too useful, you know? And I’m definitely not going to let it out of my sight again.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Good. And who knows. If you do well with the hedge mage research, perhaps I’ll have more jobs for you in the future.
Galadin Windrunner says: I mean. I don’t want to let you down, so… I guess I’ll have to make sure I can get you something substantial.

Vel smiles in response.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I’m not going to keep you any longer from your father and your brother.
Galadin Windrunner says: Yeah, I should probably get back. Hey, um… thanks.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Family has to stick together.

Galadin smiles and he goes to give her a hug, and Vel accepts it.

Galadin Windrunner says: I’ll see you later, okay?

He heads out of the study and Vel watches him go. Surprisingly, Galadin seems to be in better spirits than he had over the last few months.

Meanwhile, Gil snags Giramar.

Giramar Windrunner says: Hey Gil. Thanks again for saving my life, by the way.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: It’s kind of what family does. Especially this one.
Giramar Windrunner says: Yeah. I guess we do. I guess me and Galadin beat Arator.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: It’s true. You came back with all your digits.
Giramar Windrunner says: Yeah. And we got kidnapped a few years younger than he did. Uh. You guys didn’t get kidnapped ever, did you?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: ...Technically I got kidnapped.
Giramar Windrunner says: Oh. Well. I was wondering if this was some sort of weird right of passage or something. If so, I’m glad we got it out of the way.

Gil smiles.

Gilveradin Windrunner says: Well, for me it was, but it was kind of supposed to be. For the rest of us, it wasn’t so much.
Giramar Windrunner says: Oh yeah. I remember you saying something about that. Or at least I heard about it from mom.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Yes, I’m sure she laughed a lot.

Giramar nods.

Giramar Windrunner says: And thanks for taking care of Captain Kernel too, I appreciate it.

Gil nods.

Gilveradin Windrunner says: Of course. How are you holding up?
Giramar Windrunner says: I’m okay. I talked to Galadin and we had a good cry and I think we’re good now. He feels really bad about what happened. I feel bad, I probably made it worse because they thought I was spying, but he didn’t even know I was there. It’s good you guys were there when you were.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: How do you feel about this? This is going to happen a lot down your path.
Giramar Windrunner says: Is it… strange I wasn’t really afraid?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Do you know why you weren’t?
Giramar Windrunner says: Well, I guess I… I wasn’t really afraid until they had Galadin. I was just ready to do whatever I could to get Galadin out. They looked like bad folks, and I still don’t think I’m afraid. If anything, this proved to me that I want to keep learning how to fight. How to do… this. Does that make sense? I hope it doesn’t mean I’m… weird or something.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: No, you’d be surprised how common that is, especially in our family. We’re basically all self-sacrificing bullshitters.
Giramar Windrunner says: Well, that’s not ideal. I want to stay alive. After all, I think Galadin would be a mess without me, even if we end up picking different things to do. He’s still my brother, you know.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I understand well.
Giramar Windrunner says: Yeah, you would. Probably more than most people.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: So you do want to stick to this then?
Giramar Windrunner says: I think so. I don’t know how it’s going to go, but worst case, I can just become some mercenary adventurer, right?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Yup, that’s a definite path. But I thought you had your heart set on the Spellbreakers.
Giramar Windrunner says: I do, but they may just say no. But I want to, especially after yesterday. Watching actual mages fighting in a situation like that… I was Zul’gurub for that, but I was far away. Just a few skeletons here and there. But watching that yesterday… I think I understand. It’s all kind of… it’s like a… it’s like a formula or a play. If you can anticipate the next move, then you can kind of unravel it. Does that make sense?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: It does. It’s… not how I operate, but I understand.
Giramar Windrunner says: In any sense, I might pick up some books about the history of the Spellbreakers. I want to get serious with this. When I’m older. I don’t want to stress dad more.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: It’s not a high bar.
Giramar Windrunner says: Yeah, I guess not.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: You gotta take care of him.
Giramar Windrunner says: Yeah, I will. He’s my old man after all. And… he might be… He’s family. Like you and everyone.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: he’s hurting pretty bad right now. It’s going to mean a lot that you guys are with him.
Giramar Windrunner says: I think me and Galadin both realized that’s our most important job right now. Hey Gil?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Yeah?
Giramar Windrunner says: Make sure you check up on your dad too. I bet he misses you. And tell Uncle Lirath I said hi, if I don’t do it first.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I’ll do that.
Giramar Windrunner says: Anyways, I should get going.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Yeah. I’m sure whatever your brother wanted to talk to Vel about will be done. She’s pretty rearing to go today.

They say goodbye, and Giramar hugs him before he leaves.

The group as a whole head to the northern section of the city where some of the town guard barracks and the Sunreaver Sanctuary is located. It’s somewhat under construction, and there are workers hard at work trying to get it finished before the heavy snows come.

As they pass in, they see the guards wearing the colors of the Sunreavers--black and red. It’s similar to the iconography of Silvermoon combined with that of Dalaran.

Vel is immediately recognized, as is Esara. The hall is in some amount of chaos and disorder. A young human apprentice is at the front. She directs the group to Sathera Somberwind down one of the halls. They were good friends with Kael’thas and also taught Antonidas when he was an apprentice. They are quite gifted, and is one of the elves that have always lived in Dalaran. They specialize in abjuration, and they have done a lot of work for the Violet Hold, including helping with the security measures. One of their inventions is used in it to secure powerful artifacts and prisoners and is how they became an archmage many centuries before.

They are about 6’3” and at present they were wearing a long, sleeveless robe. There are tattoos along their cheek and their eyes have a faint emerald hue to them. They turn to the group with a smile.

Sathera Somberwind says: Ah. Arcanist Windrunner. It’s a pleasure to see you, I was expecting you and your guests.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Archmage Somerwind, thank you for your time.
Sathera Somberwind says: Of course. I have heard…

They flick a hand to their desk, indicating a stack of paperwork.

Sathera Somberwind says: Judging from the fact this was on my desk when I got here you had an eventful evening.
Velameestra Windrunner says: That’s correct.

Vel quickly goes through introductions for those in the party that Sathera doesn’t know. Sathera already knows Esara, and she mentions to Remnii that they had already heard a great deal about her. They also comment on the likeness in Vel and Gil’s faces.

Gilveradin Windrunner says: Yes. I’ve heard about our so-called face.

He smiles good-naturedly, and Sathera also acknowledges both Uther and Victor as well.

Sathera Somberwind says: It’s a pleasure to host you at our humble base of operations. There’s not much to look at at the moment, but we intend to fix that by the end of the year. So. If I’m not mistaken, you encountered warlocks, and not only did you dispel their move, but you brought two of them into custody. Well done.
Velameestra Windrunner says: There was a succubus and two imps in their service. They were also destroyed.
Sathera Somberwind says: Excellent. Good. There’s no reason for such creatures within the hallowed streets of Dalaran. This is not a place for creatures of the Nether, and though the Council of Tirisfal is no longer here to remind them of that, that duty now falls to us.
Velameestra Windrunner says: As it were, their motivation for the move last night seemed to be money. Which indicates they have been unable to establish much. But in addition to that, we did find this on their persons.

Vel produces the symbol that were found on the warlocks.

Velameestra Windrunner says: One of my cousins informed me that they are referring to themselves as the Argus Wake.
Remnii says: ...ah…

As soon as Vel had mentioned the name Argus, Remnii served as punctuation for the end of the sentence. Several eyes flicker to Remnii.

Sathera Somberwind says: Does this have some significance to you, Miss Remnii?
Remnii says: At least in words. I am not sure of what it means to the people of Azeroth, but I can tell you what Argus is. Argus is the seat of the Burning Legion. Home to the eredar, and original home to my people.
Sathera Somberwind says: I see.
Remnii says: But it has since been dragged to the Twisting Nether from its place in the Great Dark Beyond.
Sathera Somberwind says: The level of magic required would be potent and… that is a gross understatement.
Remnii says: The Legion, I can assure you, has that capacity.
Sathera Somberwind says: So these cultists, they style themselves the Argus Wake.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It would appear so. From what we were able to tell, it was both humans and elves working in tandem. One of the elves we eliminated were among those present at Duskwither Spire when the warlocks made their move there. So it seems some of the warlocks from Silvermoon have indeed moved here.
Sathera Somberwind says: … A poetic name. I suppose, depending on how you interpret it, it could be mean that they style themselves what comes after Argus. They seem to think that this world is already theirs. I intend to make sure they don’t succeed in that.

They take the symbol Vel had produced.

Sathera Somberwind says: Would you mind if I held on to this one?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Of course not.

Sathera places it on their desk.

Sathera Somberwind says: Very good. Appreciated. The information that you provided will be most helpful. If more of these Argus Wake cultists remain within the city, they will be rooted out. I’m not surprised to hear they found allies outside the groups that came from Silvermoon. No matter what, power is… an efficient motivator. Despite the teachings of the Kirin Tor some will always seek to dabble with strength they should not.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Which, during our investigations last night, my brother was actually able to identify the presence of other demons in the Underbelly. He may be able to help you triangulate that.

Vel glances at Gil.

Sathera Somberwind says: That is a useful skill. You are a Farstrider, if I’m not mistaken?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Not.. anymore.
Sathera Somberwind says: I see. Well, you were trained by the Farstriders, and that’s good enough for me. I’d be more than willing to compensate you for your services if you’d be willing to offer them.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I actually was going to offer to help anyway.
Sathera Somberwind says: Excellent. Our holdings are a bit meager at the moment, but I will do what I can to make it worth your time.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Though I imagine we can discuss this more later.
Sathera Somberwind says: Of course, of course. I have prepared a reward for your parts in assisting us with yesterday. I would wish to give you more, but… forgive me if this comes off as an insult. Please take this meager token of our gratitude.

Sathera produces a small satchel with 100 gold pieces for the party.

Sathera Somberwind says: I wish it could be more, but for the time being, we will need to produce further results before the Kirin Tor and Council of Six can provide additional funding. Results that will be much easier to come about thanks to your assistance. Is there aught else I can help you with?
Velameestra Windrunner says: We were hoping we could talk to the prisoners brought to the Hold.

Sathera agrees and informs them they will send word ahead.

Velameestra Windrunner says: It’s appreciated, archmage.
Sathera Somberwind says: The same could be said. ‘Twas a pleasure, everyone, and if you require me further, I’ll be here for the majority of the day. I have some… paperwork to fill out. Mister Gilveradin, if you wish to assist, simply return to the front desk and I’ll have one of our agents work with you.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Understood!
Sathera Somberwind says: Then good afternoon everyone. Remember, knowledge is power. Guard it well.

They tap the side of their temple with a smile and turn away to get to work on their other responsibilities for the day. They give a small sigh as they look at just how much paperwork there is. The group takes their leave.

The group arrives at the Violet Hold, and Remnii pauses at the strange fountain for a moment, recalling the meeting with Val’zuun. There are two guards at the entrance, along with a few arcane constructs.

The guard confirms they received word ahead, and allows the group to pass. Inside in what appears to be a waiting room, there is an elderly human woman with Kirin Tor robes. She gives Vel paperwork to fill out (during which time there is a brief discussion with Remnii on how she is phonetically spelling her name because the priestess had been using a single runic symbol) and as soon as Vel completes it, a nearby door opens, revealing a tired-looking blonde woman who introduces herself as Sinclari.

She leads them inside to a small chamber.

Warden Sinclari says: Prison cell 63627

Several runes illuminate, and the chamber descends. As they pass more force fields, they can see humanoids in each of the cells.

Warden Sinclari says: Welcome to the minimum security ward.

She points at the cells in question.

Victor Prestor says: They call this… minimum security?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: What’s maximum security?
Victor Prestor says: I don’t think we want to know.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I kind of do.
Victor Prestor says: I’m not going to ask, you ask.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: … We’ll ask Vel.
Victor Prestor says: Good idea.

They continue along, and the warden points at the glyphic panels and pulls out a pendant. Several force fields reduce themselves, allowing the group to see into the cells.

Warden Sinclari says: Take your time. I have plenty of work to do later, but Gaoler Kassan has stressed this is important. And if you have questions, please, I’ll be thrilled to answer.

The young woman inside one of the cells sees the group and panics.

Gilveradin Windrunner says: We’re not here to kill you.
Nervous Human Warlock says: Well, hi... Hello. Nice to see you. Hope everyone is doing alright.

Gil looks at Remnii, confused, and Remnii gives him a sad look.

Gilveradin Windrunner says: So, what exactly was your winning play here? What were you trying to accomplish?
Nervous Human Warlock says: Me? Or did you mean…?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Both.
Nervous Human Warlock says: I, um… I don’t… um… I’m not really sure how to answer. I wanted to survive. That’s why. Look, I’ll tell you everything I know. It’s not much, but I’ll tell you.

She is clearly terrified.

Nervous Human Warlock says: I’ve been operating… operating. I’m sounding like them now! I joined this whole Argus Wake because I basically had to.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Were you being threatened?
Nervous Human Warlock says: Not really. Everyone started joining it. All I know is that after the business in Silvermoon, a bunch of people showed up. I wasn’t in Dalaran. I wouldn’t have been here! But I got drug into it. These folks started showing up. People who… I know look into stuff like this. People who Dalaran doesn’t look well on started talking about it, so I followed them. They showed up recently, just gobbling up every small group of warlocks. Myself and my friend along with it.
Velameestra Windrunner says: What, did they offer you something?
Nervous Human Warlock says: Power. How to use your magic. I didn’t know they would start kidnapping children!
Gilveradin Windrunner says: What did you think they were going to do?
Nervous Human Warlock says: I don’t know! I don’t know, alright.
Velameestra Windrunner says: And who did you answer to?
Nervous Human Warlock says: No one. The one that you killed. The elf. He never gave us a name. But he was… I was… I was here with him. It’s all very secretive. He answered to whoever started this whole cult business. They just called him the Hierophant.

Gil looks at Remnii.

Gilveradin Windrunner says: Does that sound familiar to you?
Remnii says: I am going to make an educated guess as I have not heard the Legion use such things that whoever started this horrible activity was… somehow receiving messages from the Twisting Nether. And who that was I cannot say. The networks of the Legion are expansive and…

She shakes her head, a bit overwhelmed.

Nervous Human Warlock says: That’s all I know. The Sunreavers have been hounding all of us. While they didn’t have hard evidence, several skipped town. My friend included. They headed to Azeroth, to hide in Duskwood.
Uther Menethil says: You’re certain it was Duskwood?
Nervous Human Warlock says: I think. He skipped town a while ago. He wanted me to go with, but I was afraid.
Velameestra Windrunner says: And who’s your friend?
Nervous Human Warlock says: He’s a nobody. I shouldn’t have said anything. He doesn’t want anything to do with this.
Velameestra Windrunner says: You did say you’d tell us everything.
Nervous Human Warlock says: I did, everything that would help...
Remnii says: The only thing that could help them get out of the Legion’s claws is honesty. I’m sorry you got caught up in this.
Nervous Human Warlock says: Alright. Fine. Just promise me you won’t kill him. Whatever you do. Please. He didn’t want a part of this. He got drug in just like me.
Velameestra Windrunner says: We’re not seeking him out looking for a fight.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I prefer not to kill anyone .
Velameestra Windrunner says: And if he doesn’t want to be involved you have nothing to fear.
Nervous Human Warlock says: His name is Brody. He was my friend growing up. From one of the villages around Amber Mill in the Silverpine Hills and forest. He’s small. Maybe a few years younger than me. Squirrely. Messy black hair. I’m sorry.

Vel nods, taking note of the name, then looks at the elf.

Velameestra Windrunner says: And what do you have to say for this?
Smug Elf Warlock says: You don’t believe what she’s saying, do you? It’s real easy to say you didn’t want to be part of it, but she was just as eager to help as the others.

It’s clear the elf is trying to goad the other, but it is not a full lie.

Gilveradin Windrunner says: Do you want to elaborate more, or are you just trying to goad?

The elf swings off of the cot. She has black hair with streaks of white in a pixie cut.

Smug Elf Warlock says: She joined the same reason everyone else did. She joined for power, and for freedom.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: She said that as well.
Smug Elf Warlock says: And she was willing to do anything to do it, just like everyone else.
Remnii says: And if you do not mind me asking, what did you find instead?

She’s looking at both warlocks.

The human warlock buries her head.

Smug Elf Warlock says: Freedom? Clearly not. Power? Not enough, unfortunately. I suppose what your friend forgot to mention was that she and I were the ones that brought the little boy together and bound them, and she did so without a question. Sure, maybe she felt bad, but that didn’t stop her. Does that make her a better person? Just because I helped bring change?
Uther Menethil says: You seem confused as to the nature of our visit.
Smug Elf Warlock says: Please, enlighten me. You’re… you’re familiar. You’re Prince Uther.
Uther Menethil says: Perhaps.
Smug Elf Warlock says: I thought so.
Uther Menethil says: We’re not here to determine guilt or offer pardons, we’re here for information.
Smug Elf Warlock says: And what info I could give you won’t help you much.
Uther Menethil says: I’m inclined to believe you. Too low on the totem pole.
Smug Elf Warlock says: You caught me. I can tell you this much. The individual in charge of our cell wanted to leave and head into Alterac.
Uther Menethil says: Well, that’s more info than I thought we would get.
Smug Elf Warlock says: I don’t imagine any information I could give you would reduce my sentence. Dalaran loves throwing things down here and forgetting them, isn’t that right Warden? You know, I can read lips.
Warden Sinclari says: Enough. Reminder, I can control the humidity, gravity, and temperature of your cell. I can make it very uncomfortable.
Smug Elf Warlock says: Yes, yes, you don’t have to remind me, I’ll play nice. But yes, Alterac. I can’t tell you more, but I know there are other cells there.
Uther Menethil says: Good. I think we’ve wasted enough time here
Velameestra Windrunner says: Were you from Silvermoon or Dalaran?
Smug Elf Warlock says: Silvermoon. You were right, by the way, as you guessed. I don’t know how many more of us there are here.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: It’s safe to assume you don’t know about operations outside your little… group.
Smug Elf Warlock says: No. I gained a great deal of strength and power, but it was not enough. Any further information won’t help. Nor would I be inclined to give it.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: What did you need the power for?
Smug Elf Warlock says: Do you need to ask?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Color me curious.
Smug Elf Warlock says: How old are you?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: 21.
Smug Elf Warlock says: So you lived in Quel’thalas for two decades. What do you think of our majestic homeland. Our proud and noble people?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Honest opinions?
Smug Elf Warlock says: Honesty is the best policy.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Arrogant to a fault.
Smug Elf Warlock says: Arrogant to a fault… that is quite true, and that arrogance leads to all sorts of problems. Overconfidence. Cruelty. Ignorance. The Wake provided an answer.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: At the expense of blood.

The elf laughs.

Smug Elf Warlock says: You should know, Gilveradin, right? The greatest changes in the world are always brought about by death. War is a catalyst for a lot of things. Think of all the magical spells that have been woven over this land. How many were created to destroy another person, to char them, to erase them existence, to freeze them and the blood in their veins. At least half, yes? Without war, what would magic be? A useless trinket to fetch a water bottle? Something to warn your morning tea, perhaps? The world needs strife if it’s to move forward. And without blood, the world won’t go anywhere. Surely if you can notice that level of arrogance from your ivory tower, what do you think that says of everyone else? The world is changing regardless of what happens here. I thought to be on the winning side. Did I choose correctly? Time will tell. For now, here I am. And I’m not going to waste my time harboring false regret, like some people.

She looks at the wall that separates her from the other warlock.

Gilveradin Windrunner says: So you say, at least.
Smug Elf Warlock says: So I say.

Vel is looking at her with a curious look, a lot of what she’s saying reminiscent of what Dar’khan had said. The warden asks the group if they are finished, and Vel confirms, and the warden shuts the cells.

The human warlock asks them to tell Brody that Marcine is sorry.

Vel asks for the names of the two warlocks, and the warden confirms Marcine as well as provides Kadra for the elf. However, there was no surname for either. Marcine didn’t seem to come from a family with surnames, and Kadra had claimed she had given her’s up. However, Sinclari is assuming she likely murdered her own family to join the warlocks.

Warden Sinclari says: I’m telling you what, the more dangerous criminals and creatures they stuff in here, the more a target they make the Violet Hold. I know these two are small fry, but…
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Every believer is useful.
Warden Sinclari says: And we don’t have enough people. If the warlocks decide to hit it, and they have enough fire power, it could go poorly. It won’t be easy… but, unlike some, I can see how it could be done. And it’s not something I want to deal with.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I assume others are trying to ignore it?
Warden Sinclari says: More they are certain the mechanisms and protections here can protect from any aggressor, or that Dalaran itself will not be targeted. But if this war starts breaking out… what if these orcs and their masters come here? I don’t even know everything they could find in the lower levels.
Velameestra Windrunner says: And things normally kept behind ivory gates are things that would be massively useful.
Warden Sinclari says: Or massively dangerous, or both.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Depends on what it’s being used for.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: How likely would it be they are seeding people into the prison?
Warden Sinclari says: It’s not that I’m concerned for that.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Concerned or not, it’s something to keep in mind, at least.
Warden Sinclari says: It’s true. I’ll bring it up to the head warden. He’s a proud man, but a logical one. See if maybe we can hire more of these elves. There’s a lot of people looking for work… as long as their backgrounds can be confirmed, I can use all the help I could get. Turns out not many arcanists, when they graduate, are looking to become wardens at the Violet Hold.

She glances at Vel.

Warden Sinclari says: Speaking of which, if you’re ever looking for anything, we’re always looking for more hands.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I’ll keep that in mind.
Warden Sinclari says: Yes. I’m sure you will, with everyone else.

She sighs and brings them back to the ground level.

Warden Sinclari says: I’m glad to have the Sunreavers onboard. They’ve been blessings in disguise, even if they aren’t well equipped currently. Just the additional pressure beyond what the guard can offer has been very, very good.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It seems at the least the goal of preventing them creating an infrastructure was successful.
Warden Sinclari says: I’m afraid it may have also decentralized their power structure. There’s no telling where these Argus Wake people are located now. But I suppose that’s probably what you’re looking into, isn’t it?
Velameestra Windrunner says: That and other things.
Warden Sinclari says: Well, best of luck. I hope you were able to learn something useful from them.
Velameestra Windrunner says: The fact they are heading to Alterac is interesting at the very least.
Warden Sinclari says: Is it? Well. I’m… good luck. As far as that’s concerned. Anyways. If you need anything else, just send for us, we’ll have one of the wardens assist you, if not myself.

The lift ends and the door reopens and Sinclari sees the group out. She’s just glad that maybe the group could potentially put an end to the warlocks.

Warden Sinclari says: For what it’s worth, I appreciate what you’ve been working on. Every scumbag you scrape off the streets is another we don’t have to worry about, even if we have to worry about them here. They aren’t going anywhere though. I’ll do everything I can to ensure that.

The group bids farewell to Sinclari, and exit the Violet Hold.

Seria heads back to the manor with Remnii so she can continue the last bits of her common lessons. She is quite worried about some things, and Raluhi tells her to try and focus on the here and now.

However, later on, Remnii sends Natalie.

Remnii says: I’ve almost finished with my common lessons. I wished to check in with you. It’s been a bit since we last spoke.
Natalie Seline says: Remnii! We haven’t left yet. But we likely will be once we hear back from Alterac. Hope everything is alright with you. Congratulations on your common. I’m proud of you.
Remnii says: I believe we will be headed in that direction with Prince Victor. Signs are pointing to the Syndicate. I should let you know that, if nothing else.
Natalie Seline says: Be extremely careful. Trust no one in Alterac until I can get ahold of you. Has the prince been acting strangely?
Remnii says: He’s very prone to headaches. And seems less touchy than some have known him to be. I have cured them a few times with lesser restoration.
Natalie Seline says: Good. Good. Just be careful. I’ll have to see what she says, but I’m not sure what any of this could mean. Be ready for anything.

Gil returns to the Sunreavers to try and help triangulate the location of some of the demons in Dalaran. The two agents he is wish buys him dinner, as well as offers a payment for his help.

Uther heads to the church to continue helping. The priest in charge thanks him personally, and emphasizes that the partnership with the Silver Hand is very important to him. Uther has earned another favor with the Church of the Holy Light.

While Seria is tending to her egg, talking to the tiny creature that slumbers inside. She hears something. Something that starts later in the evening, coming from the egg. Through the shell, there’s a heartbeat. She’s never heard anything like that before, this is the first time.

Seria is pleased, then she gets the feeling she’s being watched.

She turns, and she sees Talath get out of the doorway like he wasn’t watching.

Seria says: Yer not very good at it.

Talath steps back out, a hand running through his hair.

Talath Dawnsworn says: Sorry. Is that, um… is that… your… egg? I’ve seen you with it a little bit. I guess I’m just curious. I’ve never seen something like that.
Seria says: It is now.
Talath Dawnsworn says: I see.
Seria says: I found it abandoned.
Talath Dawnsworn says: That’s terrible, I’m glad you took it in. Do you know what it is?

Seria shakes her head.

Talath Dawnsworn says: Huh. I wish I could tell you. Unfortunately, I’m not an expert of nature. I stick to more city locations. Wonder what it is though.
Seria says: Hoping to find out soon.
Talath Dawnsworn says: I hope so as well, for what it’s worth. Right. Uh. Sorry for bothering you. I should probably get back to work and leave you to it. If there’s anything you need for your, uh… egg? Yeah, um. See you later. Good luck. I know that, um… well I heard that sometimes creatures know things that are happening outside the egg, so if that’s the case, I’m sure it’s excited to see you too. Not that I’m assuming you’re excited… I’m babbling, sorry.
Seria says: His name is Riff.
Talath Dawnsworn says: Riff? Oh, I didn’t realize you named it. Or him.
Seria says: Like you said, they can hear things outside the egg, and I wanted him to know his name.
Talath Dawnsworn says: Mm. Okay. This is going to be weird, but can I say… hello to it? Or is that weird? If not, that’s okay. Sorry.
Seria says: I don’t mind. I’m usually the only one talking to it.
Talah Dawnsworn says: Sure. Um.

He kneels down next to the egg.

Talath Dawnsworn says: Greetings, Riff. My name is Talath. I don’t know if you’ll remember, but I hope you’ll grow big and strong.

He tentatively holds a hand out and runs a hand across it.

Talath Dawnsworn says: Huh. That’s… so strange. It’s warmer than I thought, but the texture is… strange. It almost feels more like a stone than a shell or anything. Like a precious little gemstone. Is that what you are? This is quite the find here. I look forward to seeing what Riff turns into, though I’m sure you’re more excited for that.

There’s a small bzzing noise, and a small bird flutters in and lands on the egg. It’s a filigree hummingbird, which nestles on the egg. Talath laughs and taps the metallic bird.

Talath Dawnsworn says: It seems Socket is fond of Riff as well.

The hummingbird looks at Seria. Seria laughs.

Talath offers a finger, and Socket hops up on it. Talath stands up.

Talath Dawnsworn says: Thank you. I know this means a lot to you. I wish you the best with it, and I hope you find happiness when he hatches. I’m not sure what lead you to Gil and the others, but I’m glad you did. If anyone can help you and this guy, I imagine it’s Vel and Gil. I wouldn’t be surprised if they can figure out more about him… or her… or it. Sorry. But thank you, I should get back to work. I have commissions to work on. Stop by if you’re ever bored.

He waves and leaves the room to head back to work.

Seria still hears the heartbeat inside the egg and she continues tending to it.

Vel picks up her armor and scrolls and spends the majority of the day training with Esara. Vel is very tired by the end, for as the training continued Esara had her don the new armor, and then also wear weights on top of it. Victor watches her training, joining in here and there.

Later that evening, Vel locates Noth’s address and heads to his small house in the residential district not too far from the Sunreavers.

The specter of Kel’Thuzad appears as they arrive at Noth’s house.

Kel'Thuzad says: This should be his place then.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Hmph. I’ll be relying on you to ensure I’m speaking to the right person.

Kel’Thuzad chuckles, and Vel knocks on the door. A voice calls from inside.

Noth Rutherford says: One moment please! I’ll be right there!

There’s some movement and a cry of “whoops!” that is quickly followed by the sound of things falling inside.

Noth Rutherford says: Oh, bollocks! I’ll fix that later.

The door opens and Vel is greeted by the sight of a rather portly, older man that is perhaps a few years younger than Kel’Thuzad was. He has long greyish-white hair pulled back in a thick braid and has a long beard. He’s a bit taller than Kel’Thuzad, and a tad bulkier. His face is round, and his smile and eyes are very kind.

Noth Rutherford says: Hello- Oh! Greetings. I’m not sure, I, ah… is there something I can help you with miss?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Arcanist Rutherford. My name is Velameestra.
Noth Rutherford says: Oh! It’s a pleasure to meet… you.

He pauses as he recognizes the name.

Noth Rutherford says: Velameestra. Ah. Of course. It’s a pleasure to meet you! Come in! Come in! I’ve heard of you. Come in, come in!

He shakes her hand with both of his and steps to the side to urge her inside. Vel is quickly assaulted by a very, very cluttered home. It’s not dirty, it’s very clean, but there are things literally all over. His bookshelves are an affront to nature and are stacked vertically. Pages are dogeared.

Kel’Thuzad chuckles in the back of Vel’s mind as he notes the expressions that are crossing her face.

Noth Rutherford says: Please, can I get you something? To drink or to eat? Any refreshments?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Coffee is fine.
Noth Rutherford says: Sure! Sure! One moment!

He hums to himself as he heads to the kitchen, and he continues to call out to Vel as he gets some coffee together.

Noth Rutherford says: It’s a pleasure to finally meet you, Velameestra! I heard about you! Before, ah, before old Kel passed away. He mentioned you. You inherited his manor, didn’t you?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes, that’s correct.
Noth Rutherford says: It’s a wonderful place it is! And I find myself not surprised that that he-- oo ah! Sorry! Burnt myself a bit. I’m fine! I’m fine! I’m not surprised that the old bat set the whole thing to be inherited by that cat of his! He sure loves cats, that old bat. Or loved, I guess.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes. Bigglesworth is a pleasure.
Noth Rutherford says: Ha! A pleasure! As long as he’s not nibbling on your ankle.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Or boots.
Noth Rutherford says: Or boots, yes!

Noth had not been wearing shoes currently. In fact, he was wearing very comfortable-looking slippers as he returns to the living room with a mug of coffee in hand.

Noth Rutherford says: Oh, I forgot to ask. Do you take any sugar or cream with this or…?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Black is fine, thank you.
Noth Rutherford says: Ah! Excellent, very well.

He hands the mug to Vel and sits down across from her.

Noth Rutherford says: Well, what brings you here? I wasn’t expecting any visitors, less someone as esteemed as you.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Kel gave me your name. I thought I might come by and introduce myself.
Noth Rutherford says: Excellent! I shouldn’t be surprised that old bean dropped a line. You know, we were roommates back when we were younger than you are now.
Velameestra Windrunner says: You don’t say?

There’s a touch of amusement in her voice, as she’s very aware that Kel himself is listening to the entire conversation.

Noth Rutherford says: Yes, back when we were, uh, young apprentices. The two of us would spend hours and hours talking into the night! Not spending nearly enough time sleeping.
Velameestra Windrunner says: So mages?
Noth Rutherford says: Ah, yes! I suppose you could say that.

He laughs.

Noth Rutherford says: Hence the coffee.

He takes a sip of his own.

Noth Rutherford says: Always good. Kel never really liked coffee as much, but I’ve always enjoyed it.
Velameestra Windrunner says: He was more of a tea person.
Noth Rutherford says: Yes he was, he was. So, yeah. Welcome to my humble abode! It’s not much. I would have tidied up a bit if I knew I was going to have a visitor. Well I hope this was, well, you still feel welcome. Any friend of Kel’Thuzad is a friend of mine.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It’s quite homey.
Noth Rutherford says: Hah, yes, that’s uh… one word for it! I know I’m not the most organized person in the world. I never heard the end of that back when we were kids. Always pushing my stuff off of his side of the room, he was.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Oh? His side of the room?
Noth Rutherford says: Yeah. We shared a single room when we were very young.

It’s very clear that Kel’Thuzad is also quite amused by this entire conversation.

Noth Rutherford says: You know, there was one time--I used to have a familiar when I was younger. I since released it. I was sick of them making my place even more cluttery. But I once had a small weasel. He would get into Kel’Thuzad’s things all the time. He hated it. Absolutely hated it. It didn’t like him very much either. Thus is the nature of it.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Familiars are frequently fond of only one person, it would seem.
Noth Rutherford says: Yes, yes. Do you happen to have a familiar? I’m curious.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I do. A mana wyrm.
Noth Rutherford says: Ah! Wonderful! Mana wyrms are wonderful creatures. It’s a shame that they-- oh, yes. Forgot. Sorry.
Velameestra Windrunner says: ...It’s fine.
Noth Rutherford says: Look at me, going and bringing the conversation to a dour spot. But yes, beyond all that, they are wonderful things. I was thinking about getting another one someday. Perhaps I will, if I can find one that will enjoy my company. But we’ll see.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Have you considered a dog?
Noth Rutherford says: Hm. You know, I actually have not. Maybe I should. I’d always assumed they were too much work, but honestly it wouldn’t be bad for these old bones to get some exercise now and then.

Vel nods, taking a sip of her own coffee as the pair of them fall into silence for a moment.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Kel had mentioned you were talented in transmutation?

Noth was sipping his coffee, and he pauses for a moment, then takes another sip before answering.

Noth Rutherford says: Yes. Yes. That is my specialty, by and large. Um.

He leans back in his chair and cocks his head to the side.

Noth Rutherford says: But I’m getting the sense he perhaps told you something else about me.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Perhaps another specialty.
Noth Rutherford says: Ah. I see. I was curious if he had spoken to you at all about any of his own curiosities.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Extensively.
Noth Rutherford says: I see. I see. I guess I should not be surprised then. After all, the… coincidence of you, of all people, inheriting the manor did seem a bit… peculiar, I suppose.
Velameestra Windrunner says: ...Yes. I’m not known for being much of an animal person, as it were.
Noth Rutherford says: Yes... neither was he.

He leans forward a bit, his brow furrowed, and his eyes still kind, but curious as he sets the coffee on the table in front of him. Not on a coaster, notably. Which Vel’s eyes dart down and take note of that fact momentarily.

Noth Rutherford says: He had mentioned that he was… working on something. I… and I must say, when I heard he had passed away, I was frightened because I’m not too far away in age from what he is… but also skeptical, I suppose. That old bean was not the kind I expected to go quietly in the night. Do you know more about the circumstances of his death?

Vel mentally prods Kel’Thuzad, as he had told her to be cautious about revealing too much, but Kel’Thuzad seems receptive telling his old friend.

Velameestra Windrunner says: He passed away saving my life… and has not fully gone, you could say.

Noth’s eyes narrow slightly.

Noth Rutherford says: I see. First and foremost, you have no worry of us being listening in on. I typically ward this place against such things when necessary. But might I ask the nature of what that old friend of ours got himself into this time?
Velameestra Windrunner says: A troll hex. He was able to seal it.
Noth Rutherford says: I see. Hex? Curious. I see why he mentioned me to you then. I have a knowledge of curses and hexes.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Do you happen to know anything about one called the Hungering Hex?
Noth Rutherford says: Not that one in particular… no, not off the top of my head. You said it was trollish in nature, yes?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes. Directly from Zalazane.
Noth Rutherford says: I see. I heard of the incident involving an undead troll, I presume that was the same one?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Correct.
Noth Rutherford says: I see. Well, I have not heard of it proper, but that could be changed. I have… I have a bit of a freelance contract as far as the Kirin Tor is concerned. I typically do independent work traveling about breaking curses and helping to unweave them. That does require a certain knowledge of how to weave them in the first place though, of course. I will see what I can learn. And perhaps I may be able to assist you. I believe that will be most beneficial for our mutual friend.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Indeed. He did express he enjoyed the irony of his former roommate freeing him from his current one.

Noth laughs.

Noth Rutherford says: So he’s encased within something?

Vel nods and holds up her hand, showing the ring on her finger.

Noth Rutherford says: I see. Well if he can hear me, tell him I said hello.

Vel smirks faintly.

Velameestra Windrunner says: You can tell him yourself.

She casually casts major image, manifesting an illusion of Kel’Thuzad in the place where he had materialized to her. A hand brushes down Noth’s beard as he looks at his old friend.

Kel'Thuzad says: It’s good to see you again, old friend.

Kel smiles, and Noth laughs quietly.

Noth Rutherford says: Well. I… I suppose I should not be surprised in the least. It’s good to see you, Kel’Thuzad. It seems I’m always the one dragging you out of tight spots, and I suppose I’ll be helping you again. There are techniques that allow one to transfer souls. Move them from one place to another. Techniques that I have some knowledge of. An offshoot of curses and their weaving and unweaving. Perhaps I would be able to assist you. I don’t think I would do it alone, but I don’t think I would be alone.

Vel shakes her head.

Velameestra Windrunner says: No. Though… could such techniques also allow for a soul to be separated from a hex that consumed it?
Noth Rutherford says: In theory, it could work. But that would require a mastery over soul magic I do not have myself. I never quite had the… I was never quite as powerful as our friend here.

He gestures at Kel’Thuzad, and Kel smiles.

Kel'Thuzad says: And I’m simply glad that you finally admitted it, old friend.

Noth laughs.

Noth Rutherford says: Well one of us became an archmage and a member of the Council of Six. But I would not be surprised if others could assist, and I could at least set the framework for such a difficult ritual.

Kel’Thuzad speaks to Velameestra privately in her mind.

Kel'Thuzad says: That, I believe, is where the Gothiks would come in. Bronjahm and Clarence. They have a certain mastery over such magics that I believe when combined with Noth’s own process may be the ticket to freeing you from the hex and perhaps even your mother as well. I can’t make any guarantees, but… in time, as your skills grow, combined with their own, if they are willing to assist.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It’s likely the best chance we have.
Noth Rutherford says: Precisely. We have time, but as I mentioned, likely not an indefinite amount. Just something to consider.

Vel nods, then looks at Noth again.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I apologize. Ultimately it wasn’t my intention to come here on business, immediately. It’s… just where the conversation went, I suppose.
Noth Rutherford says: Oh, it’s quite fine. I suspected that there may have been some ulterior motive, but I hold it not against you. After all, if Kel’Thuzad was one of your teachers, he was one that always liked to get down to business, wasn’t he?

Kel’Thuzad just smiles.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes… your help would be very much appreciated in the future.
Noth Rutherford says: Of course. And you’ll have it. I owe… I owe Kel a great deal, and… well it would not hurt to make another friend.

Vel extends her hand and he gives it a firm shake. He looks down at her hand as he shakes it this time, noting the still-obvious chill of it, but he doesn’t say anything about it.

Noth Rutherford says: You’re always welcome here, for what it’s worth. I’ll be sure to clean a bit before your next visit.
Velameestra Windrunner says: If you… ever need help organizing.

She glances at the vertically stacked bookshelves.

Kel'Thuzad says: Please, Noth. You’re wont to kill me permanently if I have to look at this for much longer.

Kel’Thuzad adds, also noting the stacked books.

Noth Rutherford says: Right, right. Apologies. If you’re ever bored, I suppose I wouldn’t say no to some assistance. I’ve never been good at organization, per say.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I find it therapeutic.

Noth laughs again, looking about.

Noth Rutherford says: Ever Kel’Thuzad’s student indeed. Well. Who am I to deny you of such a, um, boundless field of therapy!
Velameestra Windrunner says: But it was good to meet you.
Noth Rutherford says: And you as well, Miss Velameestra. I’ll see if I can learn aught else about that hex. I have no doubt I’ll be able to break it… but the other mechanisms of which you speak may be more complicated.
Velameestra Windrunner says: There was actually a phrase that another troll told me…
Noth Rutherford says: Oh!

He scrambles around for a moment, looking for a piece of paper to write it down.

Noth Rutherford says: Please, go on.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Um… they said specifically in order to get rid of something like this… ‘it takes mind, body, and spirit. Unless you are doing all three, it won’t go away’.
Noth Rutherford says: I see.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Afterwards, she emphasized that 'woe befallen anyone that is unfortunate to have something like such'
Noth Rutherford says: Yes, yes, of course, of course. Typical curse drivel. Interesting. That is interesting. I fear if we take a more direct route to destroy this hex… what effects does it have, if you don’t mind me asking?
Velameestra Windrunner says: It takes the form of a spider, when manifested. And from what we’ve been able to gather… it saps life energy, making the individual weaker over time until they just… cease.
Noth Rutherford says: That’s not good. Um… I can’t make any declarations about this, but, be careful. If you’ve already tried to destroy the hex, I would not do it unless we are absolutely certain of what happens. If you destroy it by more conventional means, what it devoured may not return, from souls to life essence. If it has taken aught from you yet, you may not be able to recover it, unless we unravel what this riddle is.

He points at the hastily scrawled notes he took.

Noth Rutherford says: I wager that without this key here, once we are able to decipher it, there is likely another step that will need to be done to retrieve what was taken.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I… suspected as much. That’s why I haven’t really been moving on it.
Kel'Thuzad says: I knew it was a wise idea to come to you. And I suppose it is a boon, then, Velameestra, that you have opted not to move upon the destruction of the hex.
Noth Rutherford says: Yes, please don’t. I don’t know what would happen if you were to destroy it through a more conventional means. But we’ll get to the bottom of it. It just might take a little bit of time.

Vel nods.

Noth Rutherford says: But thank you for bringing this to me. I suppose I was a bit bored. And this seems to be quite a… thrilling case, if you will. Troll hexes are always so complicated and needlessly so in some capacities! Their culture is very different from somewhere with more conventional curses.
Velameestra Windrunner says: As more ritualistic tendencies go.
Noth Rutherford says: You must unravel those very rituals to find how this hex was first created so that we may unmake it safely. Without harming anyone else in the process, if possible. Well. It was wonderful meeting you again, Velameestra. I look forward to working with you further in the future. It is getting close to my bedtime, and I should be getting to bed before I start nodding off in front of you, and that’s very embarrassing.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes, of course. I won’t take up more of your time.
Noth Rutherford says: But please. Anytime you wish, feel free to stop by.

Vel thanks him, and then disperses the illusion of Kel’Thuzad as Noth sees her out.

When Vel gets back home, she finds Seria hanging out in Talath’s workshop. She has her egg and she’s just sitting quietly.

Talath’s workshop is a tad more chaotic than the rest of the manor because he has projects going on, though all of them are labeled on shelves. There are a lot of tools in there. Glassblowing tools like blow pipes and blocks and tweezers, there’s a small fire pit, hammers and saws are hung on walls and small glasses for looking at details. There are also plenty of jewelers kits with almost a dozen different sizes of saw. Everything is organized and hung.

Seria had also periodically seen Talath go to a small shed outside (which he had built at some point during one of the times Vel was gone) to fetch even more tools. There is a set of lockpicks and small files sitting around as well tinkers tools.

There’s also an anvil and some larger saws and leatherworking tools from other skills he’s trying to get better at, though they are much less used.

Socket, at one point, had gotten into one of the glass bottles and Talath had to fish him out with some pliers during the time Seria had spent in there.

Talath looks up as he senses Vel at the doorway.

Talath Dawnsworn says: Oh! Vel, welcome back!
Velameestra Windrunner says: Hello. Seria.

She looks over at Seria with a nod. Seria nods back.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Sorry. I wanted to check up with you. A… lots happened.
Talath Dawnsworn says: Yes. That’s an understatement, I think, but you’re right. Um. Sure. I should probably pack up, it’s getting late. Thank you for the company, though, Seria. I appreciate having someone here to bounce ideas off of occasionally. Both of you!

He gestures to Riff with a small chuckle.

Talath Dawnsworn says: You can, um, hang out here if you want, though it won’t necessarily be that interesting.

He puts his things away and goes to speak with Vel privately.

Talath Dawnsworn says: You’re definitely right. It is a lot. I guess I knew that you all got into a lot of dangerous things, but… seeing it first hand is totally different.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I was trying to keep it away from the house…
Talath Dawnsworn says: It’s alright. It was inevitable, but I’ll do whatever I can to secure this place further. If anyone else tries to use it against you, I won’t let them. I can do at least that much.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I’m planning on getting a stash of scrolls at some point… I imagine Rhonin or yourself could probably make use of them. But I’m just wondering how you’re doing. It’s one thing for people who are used to it…
Talath Dawnsworn says: I’m… to be quite honest, Velameestra, I’m trying not to think about it too much, because if I do I can’t stop shaking. There’s so much happening and I… I feel like I’m drowning trying to keep up. And you know I’ve never been an exceptionally strong swimmer.
Velameestra Windrunner says: To be fair, Gil had all of us outpaced.
Talath Dawnsworn says: Yeah, heh, I guess you’re right... Look, I’m afraid. I’m afraid for myself, I’m afraid for the boys, and I’m afraid for Rhonin, and… for you guys. For you. Every day is another danger for you. I already lost my parents. I don’t want to lose all of you as well.
Velameestra Windrunner says: That is the goal. We have contingency plans in place, which are nice to fall back on. But I appreciate you being here.
Talath Dawnsworn says: It’s an opportunity I’m thankful for everyday. No matter what happens, Vel, I have your back. I’m going to keep trying to work harder so I can help all of you more. Raluhi and I have already talked about a couple ideas. We’re in your corner.
Velameestra Windrunner says: You... do realize you’ve already done quite a bit, right?

Talath furrows his brow, seemingly confused.

'Velameestra Windrunner says: You… don’t realize?
Talath Windrunner says: I mean. I’ve helped a bit here. I’ve watched the house…
'Velameestra Windrunner says: Talath. What’s the biggest threat to a mage?

Talath things for a moment.

Talath Windrunner says: Um… the lack of information?
'Velameestra Windrunner says: Another mage.
Talath Dawnsworn says: Oh.
'Velameestra Windrunner says: And what you did is ensure I can’t be targeted without being able to defend myself.

She points to the necklace she has around her neck, the one he had enchanted to be an amulet of proof against detection and location.

'Velameestra Windrunner says: Not to mention the fact the Windrunners can now interface as a family despite the fact many of our occupations necessitate constant moving. Which was something you made possible.

Talath stares dumbfound for a moment, a slight blush rising in his face.

Talath Dawnsworn says: I… I guess you’re right. Heh. Hehe… I guess it’s easy to get caught up in… in everything that you guys have accomplished that I never thought about it.
'Velameestra Windrunner says: Battles aren’t only won on the front lines. As I told you before.
Talath Dawnsworn says: I appreciate the reminder. What about… what about you?
'Velameestra Windrunner says: What about me?
Talath Dawnsworn says: How are you? Everything that’s happened… well it’s a lot. And you’re going to be leaving tomorrow, yeah?
'Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes. Remnii and I are stopping at the Explorer’s League, and most of us will be leaving soon after. It’s um… overwhelming. I suppose that’s the best way to describe it. I’m trying to prioritize where I can. Arthas…
Talath Dawnsworn says: If you… if you need me before you leave. I think it would be wise for you to try and get some rest before you go.

Vel looks down the hallway in the direction of her study, her mind having clearly been on returning to her work there and likely collapsing on the couch for the second night in a row.

Talath holds out a hand, and Vel looks down at it.

Talath Dawnsworn says: It will be there in the morning. And for the next many days after that, I’m sure.

She hesitates, but nods, and slowly takes his hand. Talath smiles at her and leads her upstairs.

When Gil returned from helping the Sunreavers, he sits and watches Elissa for a bit, and she doesn’t see him. So he makes some noise, and she gets startled.

Gil said he just wanted to check up on her.

Elissa Cross says: I’m in good spirits. Having a potential answer and help for dad, and a potential lead to follow up on. I’m worried about his majesty, but I think we’ll be able to find him. I have a gut feeling.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Glad you’re in good spirits.
Elissa cross says: It’s frightening, but when I’m with you, it’s hard to be afraid.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Anyone who says they’re not afraid is lying.
Elissa Cross says: It’s not that I’m not afraid, it’s just that I’m… not alone, and it’s nice.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Glad you don’t feel alone then. You’ve kind of been in this just as long as the rest of us.
Elissa Cross says: Guess you’re right. It’s almost been--
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Not even a year.
Elissa Cross says: I was going to say almost a year.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: It seems like a lot’s happened. And things are about to get real… concerning soon.
Elissa Cross says: No matter what, if we stick together, as long as we face it all together, I really believe we’ll be okay. So I guess thanks for… for running into me that one time. So that I could be here, doing something good for everyone. Less than a year ago I was just doing inventory and moving crates.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: And now you’re guarding a prince.
Elissa Cross says: Yeah, and rescuing kings. I can hardly believe it, but here we are.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I’m also very happy we ran into you.

Elissa smiles and blushes slightly.

Elissa Cross says: Well, we’ll have more adventures than these ones, right?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Not done with this one yet.
Elissa Cross says: Yeah.

She gives him a hug, and Gil hugs her back.

Gilveradin Windrunner says: You know, you earned most of this on your own.
Elissa Cross says: In a way, but I still can’t help but feel I owe a lot to you and Uther and Vel and everyone else we met along the way.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Everyone builds on each other. That’s why it’s important to be around.
Elissa Cross says: I agree. We’re going to make this right.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I’ll hold you to that.
Elissa Cross says: You have my word on the honor of my status as a royal guard of Lordaeron.

She salutes.

Gilveradin Windrunner says: I dunno know if I’m the one you should be saluting to.
Elissa Cross says: Oh. You’re right. But that’s okay. Thanks for checking on me though.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: You’ve been through a lot.
Elissa Cross says: So have you. If you ever need someone to listen, my ears aren’t as big as yours, but they’re still good for listening. Well. Unless you’re sneaking around. I’ve been called a bit oblivious.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Something to work on. But it’s endearing.

Elissa blushes, and they head in to get some sleep. Elissa left the brush she was using to brush Daisy on the post, and Gil just puts it away.

Seria goes to find Vel’s room. There’s an irritated-looking mana wyrm outside the door. She hears some noises that she is able to piece together a few things that are likely going on inside. She opts to wait until the morning.

December 12th

The next morning, people are packing things up to leave and eating breakfast. Raluhi waves at Vel as she passes.

Raluhi says: Good morning, Velameestra! Oh! I put the book back on the shelf. Where it was supposed to be. The one you had out in the study last night. If you were looking for it.

Vel looks confused.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I… wasn’t in the study.
Raluhi says: Oh? I’m sorry. I just assumed. You are usually in the study so I… ah.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Which book was it?
Raluhi says: It was about the, uh, the archmage certification. I assumed that it was you. I understand that archmages are the elite of the mages here in Dalaran, I just assumed that you were reading up on the process to become one. My bad. Well, if… for whatever reason it was out. It is back where it belongs on your shelf, alphabetized. Using the common alphabet, of course.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Thank you, Raluhi.
Raluhi says: Of course, yes.

After a moment of thought, Vel goes to find Rhonin, but she catches Seria looking at her. Vel raises an eyebrow at her, but there’s no response.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Is there a problem?
Seria says: No problem.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Then… can I help you?
Seria says: I was gonna ask ya last night, but I was wondering if you could do me a favor.
Velameestra Windrunner says: What is it?
Seria says: Dat spell ya used to… talk to other people. I wanna borrow it.
Velameestra Windrunner says: ...borrow it?

Seria nods.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I suppose if I know who you’re trying to contact I can endeavor to try and contact them for you.
Seria says: That’s not necessary.

Vel raises her eyebrow. Seria is looking around cautiously, somewhat wary, and Vel guides her back to her study so that they could talk in private.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Now, what is it?

Seria pulls out a ring, which Vel is able to quickly recognize as a ring of spell-storing.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Ah. So that’s what you meant.

Seria nods.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Curious. Not something I would expect you to have. But, yes I suppose that would be adequate to allow for “borrowing” a spell.

Vel holds out her hand for the ring. Seria looks at the outstretched hand and hesitates.

Velameestra Windrunner says: … If you would prefer to hold it I can try to do it that way. I assure you I’m not going to steal it.
Seria says: It’s very important. Belonged to ma mother.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Ah… I see…

Vel shuffles a bit awkwardly, and her ears flatten slightly against the side of her head.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Um. Yes. I assure you. It will be returned immediately. Or… you can just hold it out on your palm. Whatever you prefer.

Seria hands it over to her, and Vel takes it, casting the spell sending into the ring. She promptly hands it back to Seria, placing it carefully back in the other woman’s palm.

Velameestra Windrunner says: That should be sufficient for one casting. If you need any others, just ask. Provided we are not otherwise detained I can see what I can do.

Seria nods.

Velameestra Windrunner says: It’s the least I can do considering what you’ve done to help. I appreciate you watching out for my brother. And helping with our cousins.

Seria nods again. Vel nods in return, and then she turns to once again search for her uncle.

Rhonin is getting ready to head to work.

Rhonin Windrunner says: Oh, Vel. You’re going to be leaving soon, aren’t you?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yeah. Remnii and I are going to be doing a quick errand and then we’ll be leaving.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Well I’ll probably be gone by the time you get back. Be safe out there, kid, if you need anything, you’ll know where I’ll be.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yeah. Out of curiosity, were you reading in my study last night?

Rhonin pauses.

Rhonin Windrunner says: Uh… yeah… a little bit… here and there. Why do you… ask?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Curious choice of light reading, the Trials of the Archmage.

Rhonin laughs sheepishly.

Rhonin Windrunner says: Um, uh… well um, I was just, you know… haha… I guess you caught me red-handed.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Raluhi did, actually. He told me he put the book back.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Shit. Did I forget to put it away? Of course I did. Yeah. Yeah. I was looking into it. Two days ago made me realize that I need to get my shit together. If I’m gonna be there for you and Gil and the boys and for Vereesa, Lirath, and everyone else… I can’t keep doing this. So, yeah, I may have been looking into, um, some ideas as to how I could, you know, try to maybe go for archmage. It’s… I know it’s probably a far cry. I don’t really know if it will work. Hell if I have any ideas of what I’ll do yet.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I mean, you are an evoker.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Yeah, but evocation is a dime a dozen. What am I going to do, just make a new spell?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Make a new spell. Perhaps come up with a method to teach others to shape spells like you do.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Yeah… Yeah I guess something like that. I’ll think about it. I just started thinking about this anyways. I know it’s crazy.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I don’t think it is.
Rhonin Windrunner says: What? Vel, you don’t have to… do you… do you really think so?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Have I ever been able to lie to your face?

Rhonin laughs.

Rhonin Windrunner says: Yeah. I guess damn good point, kid. Do… you really think i could do it?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yeah.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Well damn. Now I can’t let you down, can I? Guess I’ll have to make it something good. After all, I mean… I guess part of the reason is because, well, Vel… you’re something else, kid. And… I mean, I can’t very well let you become an archmage before I do.

He laughs.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Don’t want me to be your boss?
Rhonin Windrunner says: While I don’t think I’d mind it, I don’t think I’d ever hear the end of it from the boys, you know?
Velameestra Windrunner says: No. Likely not. They have an ability to hold onto things.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Yeah they do.

Rhonin indicates he wants to give Vel a hug, and she accepts.

Rhonin Windrunner says: Thanks kiddo. I really appreciate the vote of confidence.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I’m proud of you. If that’s… something a niece says…

Rhonin laughs again.

Rhonin Windrunner says: Only if she means it.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I do.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Maybe I’ll bounce some ideas off of you. And Raluhi too, honestly.
Velameestra Windrunner says: You know how to contact me.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Sure do. I’ll see you again soon kid.

Vel nods, and Rhonin gives her a genuinely appreciative smile before he goes to leave.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Oh. Actually. Rhonin.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Oh, yeah?

He spins around to look at her again.

Velameestra Windrunner says: How late are you running?
Rhonin Windrunner says: How late am I running?
Velameestra Windrunner says: To go to work.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Oh… I’m actually on time right now.

Such an occurrence is incredibly rare, and Vel takes a moment to process the fact, as well as the fact his beard is much more nicely trimmed, and his hair better combed and neater than it usually is.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I’m not going to keep you then. But, um… when you get back have Talath put you on my bank account if I’m not here.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Oh! Yeah. Sure. Thanks. That’s probably a good idea. Yeah. I’ll make sure we can get that done. Wait. Talath is on your bank account?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yeah… it was just easier than me having to constantly filter him money for anything I was having him doing.
Rhonin Windrunner says: …Uh huh… Well. That’ll make things easier then.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yes. But don’t let me be the reason you’re late.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Oh. You’re good. I gave myself an uncomfortably long amount of time to get to work today.

Vel’s eyebrow just slowly raises.

Rhonin Windrunner says: Yeah, I know. It’s really weird. I should get going.

Vel waves him off, and as she passes Gil at one point, she comments that Rhonin had left early for work.

Gilveradin Windrunner says: Is he still charmed…?
Velameestra Windrunner says: ...I didn’t check. You don’t think…?
Gilveradin Windrunner says: No. That was a joke. But that’s a good sign, right?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yeah. I’m… just going to need to get used to it.

Gil smiles.

Gilveradin Windrunner says: Seems like a good thing to get used to though.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Yeah.

She gives Gil a genuine smile, which in itself, is also incredibly rare, and she goes to finish packing for the road.

Vel and Remnii head over to the explorer’s league in Dalaran, which is a very small branch of the explorer’s league. The door is unlocked.

As soon as they walk in, they see a few people. There’s the dwarf Vel had talked to previously, as well as a human by a fireplace reading some books, and also two other dwarves sitting nearby with stacks of books.

There’s a record player playing some simple music.

It might as well scratch as Remnii walks in, and everyone turns to stare at her.

Remnii says: Hello!

One of the dwarves with the stacks of books drops his book in his lap, and there’s a moment of silence. Finally the young secretary dwarf, Fennie Hornswaggle, comes around the corner.

Fennie Hornswaggle says: Oh, sorry sorry-- oh, sweet mother of… that’s not what I was expecting to see.

Another dwarf with a dark, dusty skin looks at Remnii.

Dark-Skinned Dwarf says: Right, lass, I’m assuming you’re that draenei lass?
Remnii says: That would be me. You have me at a disadvantage.

The dwarf shoves the books aside, hops to his feet, hits his foot off the table, and runs to greet Remnii.

Dark-Skinned Dwarf says: A pleasure to meet you. Hugh. Hugh Deepstone. I’ve heard a couple of things of ye from some folk. I was gonna see if I could find ye at some point to ask ye some questions, yet here ye are. I didn’t know if you were in the city! I’m a bit starstruck. Perhaps I should start again. My name is Hugh Deepstone. I’m a bit of a scholar of things around the world. An anthropologist, ye see! I study different cultures of different types of people, and you’re quite the culture! I haven’t seen anyone like you before! I have a lot of questions, and I’ll make it worth your while. I’ve got a research fund! I’ll answer any questions ye have and… I came off rather strong, didn’t I?
Explorer’s League Dwarf says: Aye, you can say that again! I’m sure this woman didn’t come in here with this kind young mage to answer ye questions, my friend.

Remnii looks down at Vel, almost asking for permission to continue speak, and Vel simply gestures at the dwarves as a go ahead. Remnii is blushing and she looks at the dwarves.

Remnii says: It’s good to meet you, Hugh Deepstone--
Hugh Deepstone says: Please, the pleasure is all mine!

He bows, and Remnii returns it with a draenic courtesy.

Remnii says: But, I’ll be in the city a few more days finishing common.
Hugh Deepstone says: Oooo, if you’ll be willing to answer some questions, I’d be happy to record it! Imagine the explorer’s league hearing it from me interviewing the first… draenei? Draenei. The first one ever! But sorry, sometimes I don’t know my own personality!
Remnii says: I imagine I may have time between studies. But, I came to introduce myself. If anyone had seen others like me, I imagine this would be the best place to start.
Hugh Deepstone says: I imagine it would be! Unfortunately, this branch is not the most well-equipped.
Fennie Hornswaggle says: You can say that again. Hilda! There’s some folks here to see ya!

There’s a voice from the back, and another female dwarf comes to the front.

Hilda Hornswaggle says: I heard the commotion! Alright. Alright. I heard Hugh freaking out again. Don’t tell me it’s another talking mur-- oh, you’re a beaut.

Remnii blushes again.

Remnii says: Oh, why thank you!
Hilda Hornswaggle says: Pleasure to meet you! Hilda. Hilda Hornswaggle. I’m the branch archivist. Might as well be running the place because Mingus never shows his damned face around here. You met Fennie, my little sister, and of course you got Hugh, who I’m sure introduced himself judging by the fact he’s blushing himself to death over there, and that there is Hardigan Ironjaw.

She points at the other male dwarf that had spoken.

Hilda Hornswaggle says: And, um. Imogen? Aye?

Vel had been distracted by the commotion and didn’t initially note the human that was sitting in a corner, but she recognizes the name. She had had classes with someone named Imogen, and as Vel looks over to the human, she quickly recognizes that it was in fact her. The woman smiles at Vel over her book. They were school acquaintances.

She stands, showing herself to be a relatively tall human with hair the color of burnt chestnuts. She’s wearing a simple red shirt with black overalls and trousers. She’s also an arcanist of the Kirin Tor.

Imogen says: Velameestra Windrunner. It’s good to see you again.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Imogen. It’s been a bit.
Imogen says: It has been. I’ve heard you’ve been busy.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I have. I didn’t know you came to the Explorer’s League.
Imogen says: Unofficially. I’m working as an intermediary between them. I, well, I was introduced to them through someone important.

She holds up a hand and Vel notes the engagement ring on it.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Congratulations.
Imogen says: Thank you. My fiance works with them a bit and, well, um, I suppose I find their curiosity quite addictive, you could say. It’s good to see you again.
Velameestra Windrunner says: You as well.
Imogen says: I had heard there was a request sent in by one Velameestra Windrunner and I was hoping it was you and not another Velameestra Windrunner.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It’s an uncommon name to repeat itself.
Imogen says: That was my hope. If I’m not mistaken… Fennie you said it was about gnolls she was looking into?
Fennie Hornswaggle says: Aye, that was right.
Hugh Deepstone says: Gnolls you say? Aye! As I said, I’m a bit of an anthropologist. I might be able to help in that matter. I’d be more than willing to help.
Velameestra Windrunner says: We’re looking for a tribe that is identified by their pitch black fur.
Hugh Deepstone says: Black of fur? That could mean a lot… Here. Step into me office!

He gestures to the fireplace, which is definitely not an office. Everyone else is sitting around it currently. Vel glances at Remnii and follows the dwarf. Hugh hops back on his chair and starts flipping through some books.

Hugh Deepstone says: Lets see what we can find here… I’m gonna ask you to describe what they look like as perfectly as you-- actually, wait. You’re one of them mage types! You could just snap your fingers and make one.

Vel confirms with a faint smirk and snaps her fingers, causing an illusion of one of the dark-furred gnolls to appear. As she does, Hugh runs a hand through his beard.

Hugh Deepstone says: Aye… That’s something I didn’t expect to see in a long time. I’d have to run some numbers and information, but Miss Windrunner, I think you’re dealing with Shadowhide gnolls…
Velameestra Windrunner says: Shadowhide?
Hugh Deepstone says: That could be bad.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I was concerned that would be the case.

Hugh opens his book and quickly starts to pour over it.
