Geists were undead creatures that were spawned from those who died due to strangulation. They were agile and quick creatures, and most were capable of speech, though many of them spoke in muffled or cracked voices due to the damage down to their throats.

History

Geists existed in some capacity for as long as necromancy was known to be used, though Annibeth Lansing was among the most prominent geists spawned in recent history during the undead plague outbreak triggered by Heigan Capless and his Cult of the Damned in Andorhal in October of year 633. She had attempted to end her existence once she realized she was infected, but her chosen method ultimately resulted in her return as a geist. She had retained enough lucidity in her undead state that she bound herself to her bed and maintained some modicum of control over other undead in her vicinity, but she was among the many that were summarily "awakened" by the efforts of Velameestra Windrunner.

Description

Like many undead, the appearance of a geist could vary significantly based on the degradation of their bodies and their general lucidity. Geists bore a heavy resemblance to how they appeared in life, but were normally thin and wiry with pronounced claws on both their hands and feet. More feral geists were capable of running on all fours and twisting their bodies in contorted and uncomfortable ways. Most geists, regardless of their state, kept a token of their death on their persons, either through a cut noose around their neck or an otherwise tight collar. Some preferred to hide their faces either completely or partially.

All geists had evidence of their death on their throats and they had permanent damage to their speech of varying degrees, though unlike some other varieties of undead, even feral geists retained an astounding degree of cleverness which made them more dangerous than the wandering, feral undead.

Abilities

Geists had wiry speed and agility that made them difficult to keep up with as well as long claws and agile bodies that made them adept climbers.
