Ur'zul were twisted demonic creatures that were formed from the tormented bodies and souls of draenei that were warped and combined to create horrifying monsters.

History

Ur'zul were horrific creations of the Burning Legion that started to manifest after the fall of Argus. A dark ritual was used to create them from the bodies and souls of fallen draenei, and their existence was then bound to a handler, who would use them as attack dogs.

An ur'zul was vanquished on Bloodmyst Isle, which then dropped a worn doll on the chest of Velameestra Windrunner which was found to belong to a young draenei girl named Uuna, whose soul (along with that of her father and several others) had been twisted into the ur'zul. It was later found that, while Uuna had been freed, the souls of those trapped with her were still entangled within her own, and it was only after Velameestra and Remnii later vanquished the amalgamation on the Ethereal Plane that the souls were finally fully separated and could rest in peace.

Description

Ur'zul could come in a variety of colors such as sickly green, bruised blue, and faded purple, and due to their nature as amalgamate creations no two ur'zul were ever truly alike. They normally were quadrupedal with large claws, and had a large slavering mouth full of sharp teeth in the front of its chest cavity. An ur'zul would normally have a number of deformed draenic heads grafted to its body above its mouth, which created a contorted mess of eyes, noses, and mouths that was terrible to behold.

While ur'zul were spawned from the souls and bodies of draenei, they themselves were not fully sapient, and were instead compelled by instinct and the commands of their masters. They were only capable of creating twisted screams and garbled words that served as echoes of the people they once were.

Abilities

Due to the nature they were imbued with, ur'zul were relentless hunters with a set of powerful jaws that could readily rip prey apart. Their bite was particularly deadly as their saliva was also acidic in nature, and was capable of burning flesh. When an ur'zul bit, there was a chance it could start to devour the life essence of its target with devastating results.

Ur'zul could also release a fearsome, garbled howl that resembled a terrible shriek that could instill fear in any that heard it.

Some more powerful ur'zul could also release a flurry of attacks on a particularly vulnerable target, which could leave them severely injured if they survived at all.

Actions

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 2d6 + 4 piercing damage plus 4d6 acid damage. If this attack flourishes, it also devours a small portion of the creature's essence, dealing max damage instead.

Baleful Howl. The ur'zul howls magically. Every enemy within 300 feet of the ur'zul that can hear it must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or be Frightened until the end of the ur'zul's next turn, or until the ur'zul is Incapacitated. A Frightened target that starts its turn within 30 feet of the ur'zul must use all its movement on that turn to get as far from the ur'zul as possible, must finish the move before taking an Action, and must take the most direct route, even if hazards lie that way. A target that successfully saves is immune to the howl of all ur'zul for the next 24 hours.
