Chapter Five: Civil War

Darion was among the Torchbearers that had been present in Andorhal at the same time as Uther Menethil and the rest of his disguised party when they arrived in search of the elf Sigilith Avernicious after hearing that he was a vampyr. It had been fortunate timing, as an altercation with the songster Hedanis Poisonbloom and some of the local mercenary men had drawn the attention of the Scarlet Crusade that was also present, and the resulting engagement with the Ashbringer had revealed Hedanis to be a demon and Sigilith to be a vampyr.

Darion engaged in a skirmish with the Crusaders at the same time as Uther's party, and helped to force their retreat in order to give Hedanis and Sigilith time to flee and escape their deaths at the hands of the masked crusader that wielded the sword of the same name. During the encounter with the Ashbringer, it became evident that Darion had some history with the masked crusader, and was clearly incensed that he was using his father's name as a moniker for his crusade. However, Darion allowed the Ashbringer to retreat after it became evident that the man had recognized his forces lost and there was no point to keep fighting. Darion managed to find Sigilith and Hedanis in the aftermath of the chaos while Gilveradin Windrunner was tailing them, but before they could make their full escape, they were intercepted by Baroness Annibeth Lansing, who wished to talk to Darion and the other Torchbearers about the chaos that had been caused in her city.

While Darion and his fellows were ultimately let go, Lansing informed the Torchbearers that, as the Scarlet Crusade had seen their faces, she could no longer cover for them regardless of the respect she held, and ultimately she and Andorhal were not in the position to take sides in the internal religious conflict when they needed the protection the Scarlet Crusade could offer, being so close to the war-front and also narrowly surviving a siege by the Horde many months prior.

Gilveradin later encountered Darion at the home of Jessica Redpath—where the Torchbearers had been staying—on his way back to the hidden mansion conjured by his sister. Given they needed to speak with the Torchbearers as it was, Gilveradin approached Darion and Maxwell Tyrosus and led them, Liadrin Everpost, Aileen Paletress, and Zabra Hexx back to the rest of his companions, where their true identities were ultimately revealed.
