Before the concert, but after the talk with Kael’thas, Remnii found Liadrin exploring the manor and greeted her warmly. Liadrin asked if the talks went well, and Remnii said it went as well as it could have. She admitted that even her own people did not share her views on those who had ripped apart the fabric of one’s society.

Liadrin agreed it was a complicated situation, but she was there to talk.

Liadrin Everpost says: Truth be told, I kind of wish I could get out there and put an end to this, but I know where I can do the most good, and for the moment it’s heading back to the Bulwark to help you all. We need the elves on the same page, and if my experiences can help, I’d be glad to share them.
Remnii says: The more alike heads and hearts on matters… I believe is wise.
Liadrin Everpost says: We won’t accomplish anything without resting.
Remnii says: An ethos not often shared. I believe you have the right of it, however.

Liadrin said the city was something else and she hadn’t really known where to start as it made Silvermoon look tame in comparison. Remnii said that recently she had experienced a place that made Venetia feel not-so-bad, but she waved off the notion. She asked Liadrin if she wanted to go and get some food, but Liadrin said she’d be happy to.

They wandered around the town and enjoyed some sights as much as they could. They found a small gelato cafe with tables that floated on a pond. Remnii stumbled, but Liadrin quickly steadied her by offering her an arm.

They shared some stories and in general got caught up with what had been happening. Liadrin mentioned Zabra was working to retrieve Natalie Seline’s body and he would bring it back it to the capital, as Mercy had a safe place they had been using as a base of operations. She was wondering if they could maybe bring her back, and Remnii said she might have some vital information.

Salandria was also getting big and was rapidly growing. Liadrin said she wouldn’t be surprised if she wound up taller than her. Remnii asked where Salandria had been staying, and she had been safely sent to the capital when she wasn’t traveling directly with her. They agreed that Seria should likely meet Mercy.

They found a flier for a concert, and quickly realized it was being put on by Gil and their companions. Liadrin said Salandria would love that, and she asked if there was a way to maybe get Salandria there. Remnii was confident they probably could. Liadrin asked if Remnii had ever been to a concert, but Remnii said she had never been to an Azerothian one.

At the concert, when Salandria wasn’t screaming, she was excitedly telling Remnii facts about Sig Nicious. She was also able to spend some time at the mansion and chat with some of her idols.

As Vel headed toward the study before meeting up with Uther to go speak with Rafaam, she noted Rommath was waiting for her.

Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: Miss Windrunner, I hope you enjoyed yourself on your outing today.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: His Majesty was very accommodating.
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: I’m glad to hear it.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: I understand you don’t have much time to spare, but I hope you don’t mind if I steal some of it regardless.

It was a call back to a prior conversation they had in Northrend, and it earned a smirk in the other elf’s eyes. He gestured into the study, and Vel said she had an interest in what happened in the Dragonblight as they entered. He acknowledged that he figured she would be.

Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: Nevertheless, given the nature of the meeting, I’m uncertain if it would be wise of me to share it with you… that is, unless you wish to use one of those questions of yours.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: If you aren’t inclined to tell me, I can just go ask my aunt.

Rommath narrowed his eyes, and agreed that he supposed she could. There was silence between them for a moment.

Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: …So should I go do that instead?

Rommath closed his eyes and sighed.

Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: Given you were the one that pointed me in that direction in the first place, I suppose I can make an exception. It wouldn’t do for you to speak with the ranger captain only for you to just have more questions based on her own interpretation of the events.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: Much appreciated, Grand Magister.

Rommath nodded.

Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: As you know, we made our way across the Dragonblight for some time. Eventually, when we last spoke, we had started to get somewhere. Not long after, we made first contact with the dragons. Shortly after, the tower itself became visible. Wyrmrest Temple. Right where you said it might be. It was an impressive structure. Large even for dragons. Needless to say, our first contact was tenuous. But, I was able to parley with them. They agreed to bring the two of us back to the temple. After which, I was able to gain an audience with their representatives.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: Was it all of them then?

Rommath nodded.

Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: Yes.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: Who was the bronze one, out of curiosity?
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: A dragon named Chronormu.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: …Interesting.
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: Needless to say, despite their trepidations given our unique natures, we struck a bargain. One that I believe will be efficacious for both the sin’dorei and their own kind.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: What was the bargain?
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: For the time being, they allow us to continue to exist. That we might begin to reach out to them in time. That perhaps with appropriate oversight, we may convince them we are not a threat to their edicts, for what they are. And in exchange, I’ve agreed to help them with something.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: What’s that?
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: To understand the affliction that seems to have turned the black dragons against them. One of their number was present. It was in no small part that her own testimony convinced the others to give us this chance. She seemed very interested in what I had to say.

Vel’s eyes narrowed.

Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: You don’t say...
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: Indeed. As we had noticed, due to your own exposure and research, we have a resistance to things that drive mortals mad. If these black dragons turned upon the rest of their kind, it is as possible that it was because of some sort of similar affliction, as much as it could have been greed or emotion. From their reactions, they believe it to be the former, less so the latter. So I offered to use our unique talents to try and find an answer.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: It just so happens we are looking at the same thing.
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: Are you now?
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: Did they mention shadowflame at all?
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: They did not, no.

Vel explained that it was a breath weapon that some members of the black dragonflight were capable of utilizing–from eye-witness accounts it was specifically ones that had gone rogue. She also said that they had seen other evidence of it in the time stasis they were in, though she quickly moved on from that particular topic, as if she didn’t desire to dwell on it.

She said the shadowflame had only started to emerge after the fall of their Aspect, so there was heavy speculation that it was linked to whatever had initially caused the schism.

Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: A physical manifestation of this corruption? Or perhaps a symptom? Or a cause?
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: Perhaps all. Notably, those bathed in the breath weapon experience similar symptoms. Nightmares. Pain that is more psychological than it is physical. It did not affect us in the same way. I experimented with it. I had a similar resistance as I did to the saronite and other such things. I have reason to believe it may somehow be linked. After all, they were the wardens of the earth.
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: Very interesting. One of Gilveradin’s entourage is a dragonsworn affiliated with the black dragonflight, if I am not mistaken. I will have to speak with her before she goes about her business. This dragonsworn phenomenon itself is most curious, I have to say.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: Mortals that are willing to uphold their edicts.
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: That they are able to confer such power upon mortals is testament to their individual strength as well. Yet they are not immune to things we do not understand.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: No creature is infallible. Living or dead.
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: Very true. Nevertheless, while I would say we are on friendly terms with them, I have made our intentions known. Hopefully, we can continue to foster positive relations with them, especially as our holdings grow across Northrend.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: On that front, I suppose I should inform you that I will likely be speaking with the red dragonqueen.
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: Are you now?
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: I was invited to send a letter. It’s likely to evolve into something more. The red dragonflight has known about us.
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: I wager all of their Aspects are now aware of us, if they were not already. I imagine news of our meeting will travel quickly.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: I have no doubt. Ultimately, they are… at least the ones I have spoken with are… receptive to changes in their interpretations of their charges. Even if it is unbroken ground.
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: Indeed. I only hope they are willing to continue altering their perceptions. We have had to do the same, and we will need to do more before any sense of normalcy is returned to our people.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: Such is the nature of paradigm shifts. But, in that case, I will keep you informed of what we find in our own investigations into the black dragonflight and affiliated matters.
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: Much appreciated. On that notion… I believe it would be wise for you and I to speak to Kael’thas on a similar matter before we speak to the others at the Bulwark.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: What would that be?
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: At this point, it seems inevitable that you will continue to find yourself in the midst of important matters. This meeting with the dragonqueen, for example. While I would not impose myself on a meeting you will likely be personally invited to, it would not do for you to speak to a figure of such importance without a full quiver and ammunition.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: …are speaking of leave to take on ambassadorial duties?
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: I’m speaking of a more official position. I don’t know how much the dragonflights respect paperwork and titles, but it certainly couldn’t hurt.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: Likely not.
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: That being said, it remains to be seen who you would be speaking for. But that will be decided before too long.

Vel nodded.

Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: Thank you for transparency, Grand Magister.
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: Of course. For what it’s worth, I’m thankful for the information you gave me. Without it I would have been in a much worse position for negotiations, if those negotiations would have even happened in the first place. Much better to speak at a meeting than in the midst of a battlefield.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: Most certainly. Which I have a meeting of my own I need to get to.
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: Of course.

He bowed his head.

Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: Good evening, Miss Windrunner.

Vel nodded to him and moved to leave the study, but she stopped in the doorway.

Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: Though… actually.

She looked back at him.

Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: As an addendum… the remaining questions you gave me. I would like to surrender them.

Rommath furrowed his brow.

Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: Now why would you do that?
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: Because leverage, while appreciated, is useful for enemies. Allies, I would rather they tell me things because they want me to know them. Not because I have a token to cash in.

Rommath shook his head.

Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: You understand that defeats the purpose, yes?
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: I believe you proved the purpose when you truthfully answered the first one I asked.
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: Am I to understand we are now even, then, for my gross breach of conduct?
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: I suppose it can be taken that way, yes.
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: Very well. If that is what you insist, I will not stop you from doing so.

Vel chuffed.

Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: I don’t believe you could have if you tried.
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: …I’m beginning to learn that is the case, yes.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: Good evening, Grand Magister.
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: And you.

After Vel left, Rommath shook his head with a sigh.

Vel and Uther made their way to the tavern that he had arranged for the meeting with Rafaam. Vel had transformed into a bat and was hidden in Uther’s pauldron. He was in his full power armor with his helmet on, and as soon as he entered, a bunch of eyes turned to Uther, including some kobolds, a gnoll, an orc, some goblins, Madame Lazul, who was last in Gadgetzan, and a menagerie of other creatures.

There was an ethereal tending the bar and he gestured for Uther to approach the bar, as he assumed the heavily armored man was Rafaam’s special guest. Uther said it was kind for him to set up accommodations, and the ethereal directed Uther to the back rooms as he polished a glass with a mage hand.

As Uther entered the back rooms, they noticed that several of the figures that were sitting around stood up as soon as he entered. There were some shady individuals already present in the back rooms engaged in various deals. Uther continued back to another room, and Uther saw Rafaam himself with his fingers steepled at his desk.

Rafaam got up with a warm greeting and expressed that Uther’s servitor was very open with singing his praises, and he offered Uther to sit and get some refreshments. Uther politely declined the drinks, and Rafaam launched right into business about the artifacts he acquired.

Rafaam says: I have reason to believe you have something that would enable me to use said artifacts?
Uther Menethil says: As I understand it, these are artifacts that contain information. I have an artifact capable of reading them.
Rafaam says: Well, it seems we are in luck. It is fortuitous that you and I have crossed each others’ paths, as we each have something the other needs!
Uther Menethil says: I prefer to think of it less like that, and more that we both have a goal and we each have a piece of the puzzle.
Rafaam says: Yes yes, indeed. May I see this item you speak of?
Uther Menethil says [telepathic bond]: What do you think are the odds he’ll try to take it from me?
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathic bond]: Given everyone stood up when we walked in, likely fairly high.
Uther Menethil says [telepathic bond]: A year ago I’d apologize for putting you in danger.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathic bond]: They don’t know who they are dealing with.

Uther chuckled over the telepathic link as he hefted his shield up and said it was never far from him. He then asked if Rafaam had the discs, and the ethereal confirmed. He reached into his cloak and produced the three disks that he fanned out with magic and then stacked them neatly on the desk.

Uther Menethil says: Very good! To put it simply, I propose a trade. Or rather… I have the ability to read what is on these disks, and for the privilege of reading what is on them, I will share with you the knowledge contained therein.
Rafaam says: Interesting! Before we make any deals, I think it’s only fair we see a demonstration!

He grabbed one of the discs.

Rafaam says: Shall we?

Uther held out his hand and said it would be his pleasure. Rafaam looked at the hand and visibly hesitated, but he handed it over. Uther slotted it into the shield, which had been emptied before they left the manor. The disc flickered to life and began to spin. An illusory image manifested above the shield. Rafaam’s eyes widened in awe. It was a man, his illusion about 3-4 feet tall with a beard and a hood drawn over his face. He had a long cape.

The image spoke in Titanic. Vel translated it over the telepathic bond.

Hologram of Tyr says [titanic]: Platinum disc, activated. Archives of Norgannon, subject leadership and delegation. Warning, archives corrupted. Limited information currently available. Return to a designated facility for repairs. State your query.

It seemed that Rafaam understood the language as well.

Uther Menethil says [telepathic bond]: Well, it might do to find out that facility location.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathic bond]: If you want him to also know that, I suppose.
Uther Menethil says [telepathic bond]: Ah. He can understand.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathic bond]: It’s in his face.
Uther Menethil says [telepathic bond]: Ah. I… couldn’t really read his face.

Uther looked back at Rafaam and mused that it was interesting, and Rafaam agreed, though it looked incomplete and he had to wonder if it was because of the disc, or the shield. Uther said it didn’t have any issues with other discs.

Rafaam says: So you’ve found others?

Uther stammered and made it seem like he had made a mistake as he admitted he had maybe found one.

Rafaam narrowed his eyes and said that Uther had stumbled into quite a few fascinating artifacts.

Uther Menethil says: I do a lot of stumbling.
Rafaam says: Where did you stumble into these particular relics?
Uther Menethil says: That’s a difficult question. Even if I were able to come up with an answer that made sense, such an answer would be quite valuable.
Rafaam says: Is that so?
Uther Menethil says: Very much.
Rafaam says: All of this talk of value and of secrets and mysteries… you are interesting, Angus.
Uther Menethil says: Coming from the Supreme Archaeologist, that is quite the compliment.
Rafaam says: Tell me, what are your plans after all of this?
Uther Menethil says: That’s a rather broad question, isn’t it? Do you mean what I plan to do with the information on these discs?
Rafaam says: That is one, yes.
Uther Menethil says: Well, I suppose that’s a decision to be informed by the information before us. An unsatisfactory answer, I know. Suffice to say, I believe the information on these discs has great cultural significance.
Rafaam says: On that, you may be understating. Did you understand the language this recording was playing back in?
Uther Menethil says: Not as fluently as I’d like.
Rafaam says: Yet you have found yourself with a great many artifacts that share a similar origin.
Uther Menethil says: Indeed I have. If I may ask, how long have you been studying these ancient mysteries?
Rafaam says: While I cannot be sure what lies under that helmet, I believe it’s likely longer than you’ve been alive. They do not call me the Supreme Archeaologist for nothing. But you have a very peculiar skillset. You are clearly able to… the armor you wear is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Yet it is not of the ethereal make. You have a skill for stumbling into artifacts of interest, so I have an offer for you.
Uther Menethil says: I await with bated breath.
Rafaam says: I am prepared to offer you a position. A pathway toward gainful employment. I’m always looking for individuals of olympic skills, you might say, and those with a knack for uncovering mysteries. It seems you are accomplished at both.
Uther Menethil says: I can say those things fall within my purview. I’m afraid I’m a terrible employee though.
Rafaam says: That’s alright! We have a degree of independence in our group, you might say. And if you agree to work for me, and turn over the information and your secrets, we will share ours in turn. I’ll make sure you are compensated with… liquid capital, was it?
Uther Menethil says: Interesting offer. Lack of fluid assets has been a considerably greater obstacle when it comes to acquiring these artifacts. Even more so when they are not in auctions and lie in monster-infested ruins.
Rafaam says: It can be quite difficult! Especially given the nature of the business we must conduct for the good of our own flow of information.
Uther Menethil says: What sort of tasks would you have me do?
Rafaam says: I tend to be a pretty good judge of character, and it seems you’re good at getting people to listen to you. That is a valuable skill to have in these sorts of resource allocations. And occasionally there are individuals that must be reminded of various things. A messenger, of sorts. And you seem to be one who is very good at sending a message. And of course, an able-bodied man such as you would be invaluable when it comes to exploring forgotten ruins!
Uther Menethil says: I do find myself in those places often!
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathic bond]: Congratulations, Uther, you’re being offered a position as a minion.
Uther Menethil says [telepathic bond]: Not what I aspired to! But I need to know what is on these discs.
Rafaam says: I can draw up a contract so we both know what we are getting into. It’s only fair!
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathic bond]: Be careful, whatever that contract is will likely be magically binding.
Uther Menethil says [telepathic bond]: Would you say that taking his offer is reckless?
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathic bond]: It’s not the most reckless thing you’ve done.
Uther Menethil says [telepathic bond]: I will take that as tacit endorsement!

Vel sighed over the telepathic link.

Uther Menethil says [telepathic bond]: I didn’t know I could sense eye rolling over a telepathic bond!

He informed Rafaam he’d like to look at the contract. It was an employment contract for the League of Exceptionally Various Independent Lancers.

Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathic bond]: …It’s literally the League of E.V.I.L.

Vel also looked at the contract and she immediately noticed it wasn’t a good contract. It was only a 30% pay and it stated the employer would provide all equipment, which seemed decent, but then there was a footnote that specified any equipment that belonged to the Lancer also belonged to E.V.I.L. which meant it was up to their jurisdiction whether or not they reassigned it. She pointed that out to Uther.

Uther Menethil says: In the interest of maintaining a beneficial relationship, I will congratulate you on this hilarious joke, and give you the opportunity to produce your actual offer, Master Rafaam.

Rafaam narrowed his eyes.

Uther Menethil says: Unless you mean me to take this contract seriously?
Rafaam says: You DARE insult me in one of my several offices!? I was being entirely serious with this, Master Angus! If you refuse to see I’m serious, then I will give you another offer!
Uther Menethil says: Now now, I know you’re used to dealing with fools. I am no fool, but I am willing to overlook this obvious insult.

Rafaam yelled at Uther that he was going to give him another offer, and it was to leave the shield and the discs and Uther would be permitted to leave with his life. Magic started to manifest around his hand.

Uther called “VAULT” and was propelled forward. He slammed into Rafaam and pinned him to a wall.

Rafaam says: Oof! My energies!

Rafaam was momentarily staggered. Several mooks emerged in the doorway, including a pandaren with a large blade, and a gnoll with a rifle. Rafaam tried to use [Hold Monster]. Vel counterspelled, much to Rafaam’s confusion, and he shouted that Uther wasn’t alone as Vel dove out and started to wrap the remaining two discs in a tablecloth.

Rafaam ran for the shield, but as he touched it he recoiled with a shout, which gave Uther the chance to grab the shield himself. Vel managed to wrap the discs up completely. Rafaam looked at the bat that was hopping around the desk wrapping up a parcel in confusion and once again barked at his goons to stop them. The gnoll, Ol’ Barkeye, fired some electrified bolas and net, but Uther was able to deflect the shot away from himself and Vel. The pandaren, Mr. Chu, tried to strike Uther, but was similarly deflected as he attempted to wrestle away the shield. He attempted to headbutt Uther, but it was very ineffective with Uther’s helmet. Vel wristpocketed the parcel of the two remaining discs.

She then darted for Uther and started to teleport them away. Rafaam noticed and tried to counterspell, but then Uther attempted to counterspell the counterspell. A blast of crimson lightning shot at Vel, and Uther attempted to intercede. The blast got through, but it gave Vel the opening she needed.

Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathic bond]: I suppose you found out, Master Rafaam.

Uther relayed the telepathic comment with a laugh. Rafaam’s eyes flared with anger.

Rafaam shouts: Curse you Angus! I will find you! And I will have that shield, and the discs, and neither you nor that… bat! Will stop me!!

They disappeared and reappeared in the midst of the conjured mansion. Vel dropped out of Uther’s pauldron and transformed back into her humanoid form. She summoned the parcel of the other two discs and handed it over to her friend. Uther beamed as he took the discs.

Uther Menethil says: Am I crazy, or was that kind of fun?
Velameestra Windrunner says: It was certainly ridiculous. They literally call themselves the League of E.V.I.L. Though I suppose you didn’t actually need to borrow money from your mother.
Uther Menethil says: And now we have the shield and the discs!
Velameestra Windrunner says: Which is exactly what he wanted. Thank you for relaying what I said. He did in fact find out.
Uther Menethil says: Well if I hadn’t had you with me that would have gone extremely poorly, I have no doubt.
Velameestra Windrunner says: That’s exactly why I came with you.

She smirked.

Velameestra Windrunner says: But, it was a valiant effort to do it the above the board way.
Uther Menethil says: Even if it gets me into trouble, I feel like it’s always worth trying.
Kel'Thuzad says [telepathically]: There was very little that was above the board with that individual.
Velameestra Windrunner says [telepathically]: I’m giving Uther credit where it’s due, Kel.
Kel'Thuzad says [telepathically]: That said, I doubt that’s the last time we’ll see of him. He seems like the type of individual to hold a grudge.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Well. With that event of the night done, I think I am going to go to bed.

Uther opened his mouth, but then shut it and agreed.

Velameestra Windrunner says: …Unless you want me to stay up and help you read the discs.
Uther Menethil says: No, I think we’ve earned a little rest, and the discs will be there in the morning.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Good night, Uther.
Uther Menethil says: Good night Vel. And thank you again.

At that moment, Gil returned from the wrap up at the concern venue and said he had thought they had a meeting.

Uther Menethil says: We did! It went… well? Terribly?
Velameestra Windrunner says: …Depends on who you are. We got the discs. Uther now has a nemesis.

Uther turned and gave Gil an open-mouthed excited smile.

Gilveradin Windrunner says: Huh. You think you know a guy.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It’s probably for the best we are leaving in the morning.
Uther Menethil says: Yes, Rafaam is very angry.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Well you stole his discs.
Velameestra Windrunner says: He moved to attack us first.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Oh, well fuck him then.
Uther Menethil says: Not the verbage I used, but that was my sentiment!
Velameestra Windrunner says: It was a good concert, Gil.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: Thanks, we made a lot of money for charity.
Uther Menethil says: Fantastic!

Vel did do a quick [Identify] on the discs before she turned in, and she found that in addition to them being platinum discs that could be read by the shield and used to cast certain spells, each of them also could increase certain facilities, be they physical or mental. One was for strength, one charisma, and the third wisdom.

October 19th

The next day, early in the morning, Vel headed off to Kanrethad’s mansion and she was warmly invited in. Kanrethad had a kick in his step as he greeted her.

Kanrethad Ebonlocke says: If it isn’t my dear friend Zelda Marrowsworn! I hope you had an eventful day yesterday.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It appears we both did, Master Ebonlocke.
Kanrethad Ebonlocke says: That we did!

He looked over to straighten a new addition to his study, which was a long skull inscribed with invocations that Vel recognized as being those used by the cultists. He explained that all of Heigan Capless’s assets had been seized and what remained of his employees were being watched, and Vel added that Tamsin Roame had taken charge of his facility of Naxxramas. Kanrethad said he had been informed as such, as she had reached out to him after the success of the raid.

He said before they all set off, he wanted to ensure they got their cut of Heigan’s assets as they were integral to blowing the entire thing open. He handed her a large satchel of several thousand platinum pieces that, when divided up, would leave everyone 500 platinum richer. Vel thanked him, and Kanrethad said it was ultimately only a fraction of what had been seized. The rest was going to be divided amongst the various mage lords and Tamsin. However, there was something else he had wanted to speak to her about.

A proposition.

Vel said she was listening.

Kanrethad Ebonlocke says: Jubeka and I are members of a small organization. One I have made mention to stop by the mansion periodically when they need to run business in the city. It’s a small group, less than a half dozen at the moment, but we are looking for one other individual with a curious set of skills that you may be a match for. We have a few candidates, and a few more have recently shown their faces. If you would be interested, I can tell you more.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I’m interested to hear the pitch.

Kanrethad smiled.

Kanrethad Ebonlocke says: Well, allow me to once more introduce myself. I am Kanrethad Ebonlocke, but I also stand as the representative for the Council of the Black Harvest. We are small in number, and we are still working on forming our core membership before we extend offers to other colleagues. The lovely Miss Shadowbreaker is another member. We each have a vested interest in unraveling the secrets of dark magics. Such as many of those on display in this city. We have a unique look towards all these things. We don’t see dark magic as something to be feared, but rather something to be understood. And once understood, it can be controlled. But we don’t seek to hide this information. Hiding information is how we get people like Heigan. We don’t share this information with just anyone off the street, those we deem safe to entrust the information with make for wonderful colleagues for discussion and dissemination. We have a loose coalition, but I would be more than happy to see you join our number. We have myself, who specializes in the summoning and binding of demons, as you may have noticed. Miss Jubeka is an expert on shadow magic and bending the energies of the Void. We also have an expert on blood magic, and another on the raw destructive magic that is harnessed from the depths of every source of magic either from the inner or outer planes, and another whose expertise is in poisons and curses, primarily. But we are lacking an expert in necromancy, thanatomancy, and other death magics. From what I can tell, you would be an excellent fit.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Well. I’m certainly interested in the pitch. What’s the nature of such a membership?
Kanrethad Ebonlocke says: Given the nature of those who practice these sorts of magics, there is an element of distrust prevalent throughout all of it. The corrupting nature of this magic could cause one to become too big for their britches, one might say. To avoid that, we work in pairs when we are not all together. The pairs are not always the same, but whenever a council member is interested in investigating a particular notion, they are assigned to do so along with a second member. This is to ensure they don’t hide anything from any of the other council members. Checks and balances, you see. If one were to return alone, without the other, we must assume the worst. And that individual will be dealt with.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Insurance against betrayal and the like.
Kanrethad Ebonlocke says: Precisely! Precisely.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I must admit that is both thorough and wise, given the nature of our studies. Though you did say if they hide anything.
Kanrethad Ebonlocke says: Generally speaking, we have an open door policy. While you need not tell them every single thing happening in your life, the things that are relevant to the practices of dark magic would be expected to be shared.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Understood. Well, in that case, Master Ebonlocke, I’m afraid I will need to decline a formal membership.
Kanrethad Ebonlocke says: Is… that so? For what reason, if I might ask?
Velameestra Windrunner says: I am… rather well connected. Unfortunately a great deal of the information that I come across is sensitive, and I am not at the liberty to share it. Doing so would be a direct breach of my prior obligations. But… I am willing to continue a less formal relationship without such restrictions in place. If that is amenable, of course.
Kanrethad Ebonlocke says: As unfortunate as that is, I can understand your reticence in sharing that sort of information. We do like our secrets, and it is by forcing those secrets to be shared that we prevent them from transforming into something more, but… I am to understand you have influence with certain members of import amongst various government organizations, thus I would be remiss not to recognize that.
Velameestra Windrunner says: A mutually beneficial partnership moving forward. One that is not obligate, but one that is convenient.
Kanrethad Ebonlocke says: Of course. That is something that is more than acceptable. Once the core membership of the council is formed, we do plan on branching out further and reach out to other practitioners of dark magic to offer a network for them. One that can allow us to be less afraid to hide. There is a degree of secrecy that precludes our existence, and having safe houses or, one might say, friendly faces is something I hope we can set up in the future.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Turns out the state of the world is somewhat in flux. There may be more opportunities to step out of the shadows, as it were.
Kanrethad Ebonlocke says: That it is. In flux indeed! Would you believe it if I said one of our core members was an orc?

Vel blinked.

Velameestra Windrunner says: …you don’t say.
Kanrethad Ebonlocke says: While I am loathe to share his identity without his permission, he was an individual we made contact with while we were in Silvermoon.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Well, in that case perhaps it is for the best I am not joining formally. I would hate to cause disruption in your organization.
Kanrethad Ebonlocke says: Understandable! Understandable. The wounds of war are difficult.
Velameestra Windrunner says: And fresh.
Kanrethad Ebonlocke says: Quite. And I would loathe to use the one sin’dorei in our ranks as an example for how to interact with one of those responsible for such a horrific tragedy. Though I will say his knowledge of the magics used by the Horde has been invaluable.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I have no doubt.
Kanrethad Ebonlocke says: But I will not belabor the point. There are many other promising candidates. Indeed, I imagine Miss Roame may be among them.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I am sure that, if offered, she would likely leap at the opportunity.
Kanrethad Ebonlocke says: I will have to see what she has to say. Nevertheless, it was a pleasure, Zelda. I hope the next we meet you no longer see the need to obscure your true identity.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Ideally that will be the case. In any regards, you have my sending stone.
Kanrethad Ebonlocke says: And you have my teleportation circle. It is available to you regardless.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Good. It would be very inconvenient to forget it, my memory is quite good.

Kanrethad chuckled and bid her good hunting, a sentiment that Vel returned. Kanrethad bowed, but Jubeka caught Vel before she left and asked for a brief segue, as she had heard of the techniques that Vel had used in Andorhal to grant the plague victims freedom from their madness. She wanted to know what magics Vel used to do so, and Vel said the sources were specifically shadow and death, though the spells themselves were of her own design.

Velameestra Windrunner says: That… if that is of interest to you, I’d be willing to share.
Jubeka Shadowbreaker says: I’d be exceptionally interested. My sphere of influence in the Council of the Black Harvest requires me to have an understanding of such things. I daresay the tools you’ve developed will be useful. I’d be willing to compensate you from my personal stores, in addition to whatever Master Ebonlocke gave you.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Rather than monetary compensation, consider this my part in a continued relationship, yes?
Jubeka Shadowbreaker says: If that is what you prefer, then I will gladly pay you back someday. Should you ever require my expertise, simply ask.
Velameestra Windrunner says: And your expertise was with shadow, yes?

Jubeka nodded.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Your expertise may be required sooner than you think.
Jubeka Shadowbreaker says: I look forward to it.

They nodded to each other and Vel left Jubeka with everything she would need to recreate the spells she had created.

Meanwhile, Gil was checking in with the Scales before they dispersed. He asked how everything had been going recently as a lot had happened.

Samia explained they were focusing on finding as many of the plague victims as possible, and they found some shipments but not before they had been disseminated. At this point, she supposed the next step was to offer what assistance could be. They had discussed that some will head into the Eastweald, while others would continue to try and isolate the plague as much as possible so they could send people to Andorhal. Vel had also given them the magics needed to speak with the dead and awaken them so they could have discussions as needed.

Motah said he was worried because the things happening were hard, but he just wanted to help. Thal’ena agreed, and she said she was planning on going with Vaelastrasz to look at the Eastweald.

Samia asked Gil if he was planning on continuing to look into the Scarlet Crusade, and Gil confirmed. He hoped they could weaken their foundation.

Teemo told Gil not to worry about everything else, because they would keep him updated as things went along. She wasn’t sure what was going to happen, but it was going to be better than it would have been. Gil asked if it was weird he wasn’t that worried, and Zagarra confirmed it was, because he should be.

Zagarra said she would keep an eye out for orcs in the Tirisfal Glades. When it came time to seek out Grom, she believed she could help the search if she found anything. She knew the signs of Warsong passage.

Vaelastrasz said that as long as they could help the people of the nation and prevent the continued spread of the plague, they would be in a good place. Plus if it helped them on the path to neutralizing the Demon Soul, it was valuable, and he planned on reaching out to his father for more insights. With luck he hoped Krasus could reach Alexstrasza as well.

Teemo grinned.

Teemo Manabrake says: You know Vael, you’re allowed to miss your mom.

Vaelastrasz chuckled and admitted it’s been a while since he had seen her. But he was confident they’d seen her eventually.

Samia asked Gil where they should keep the Demon Soul for the time being, and Gil said it should be passed on to someone else. Teemo volunteered, who also told Gil to give them a holler if anything else came up. Ultimately they could reconvene quickly if needed.

Elissa also decided she wanted to go with the team heading to the Eastweald, and Riff was going to be joining her. He gave Seria a big hug and bid his new little brother (the blink fox) goodbye as well.

Kael’thas, Rommath, Alleria, Maxwell Tyrosus, Darion Mograine, Aelthalyste, and Liadrin would be going ahead to the Bulwark.

Sigilith, Hedanis, Tehd, and Lance approached and Hedanis expressed he had a great deal of fun, but as long as they had no further need, he was planning on staying in Venetia to see if he and Lance could make more waves. Vel agreed that whatever he wanted to do was his choice.

Hedanis Poisonbloom says: Wonderful! Well, if you need me you know where to find me! Should you ever make your way back to Venetia, or when we make our dramatic tour back to Silvermoon, I’ll make sure each and every one of you have front row tickets. Or wherever you want to sit.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Most appreciated.
Hedanis Poisonbloom says: And um… thank you. For saving me and for keeping… certain things between us.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I don’t know what things you’re talking about.

Hedanis smiled.

Hedanis Poisonbloom says: Much appreciated.

Vel nodded at him and looked over to Lance to tell him he had also sounded wonderful the prior night. Lance approached her and took her hands in his, which had gotten much more claw-like.

Lance Beckett says: I never would have been able to do it without you. I don’t know what’s going to happen from here on out, but for a long time I felt like I was just going through the motions looking for something new, you know? And I don’t know what it is, but I feel like I’m not afraid. I thought I was gonna be after you guys got me out of that place, but being on stage? Even if they didn’t know what I was… there’s something special about being able to perform and put smiles on everyone’s faces like that.

Vel smiled softly.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Live that dream, Master Beckett.
Lance Beckett says: I will!
Velameestra Windrunner says: And wherever I am, you will always be welcome.

Lance squeezed her hands and offered her a toothy smile. Tehd also informed them he was going to be staying in Venetia as the city had endless possibilities and he had learned all sorts of magic in just a few days. Vel asked what tier of spell he was capable of, and he gleefully said he believed it was tier five, as he had just figured out how to inscribe teleportation circles.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I have… never seen anyone progress anywhere near as quickly as you have. That was… the fact that you did not have the ability to nurture such talent sooner is a real shame.
Tehd Shoemaker says: I agree! I can banish demons now! Who would have known that Tehd Shoemaker, the peasant from Andorhal, would be banishing demons!

Vel agreed that Venetia was a good place for him, and Tehd eagerly exclaimed they had best watch out or the next time they visited he might be a mage lord. Remnii said that wouldn’t surprise her, and Vel agreed. Remnii told Tehd to take care of himself, and Tehd strolled over to her and gave her a tight hug.

Tehd Shoemaker says: I have all of you to thank for this new lease on life! Once I get my mansion here I’m gonna invite all of you to a party! Once I get a mansion, of course.

The group joked about which would happen first, Uther’s wedding or Tehd’s housewarming party, and Remnii offered the joke that they could take bets, though she wasn’t particularly good at gambling.

Sigilith decided to join Halveria and return to Karazhan so he could help her nurture her talent. He told them he’d see them around.

The group that remained headed back to the glade outside Hearthglen via Seria’s spellwork with [Transport via Plants]. The first thing they saw when they got to the tower was bodies.

They were recently slain, and they were Scarlet Crusade.

Vel immediately approached to examine the corpses, and she immediately identified they were slain by a large slashing weapon like the axe wielded by Nazgrim. He was nowhere to be seen. Vel requested Gil and Seria to look for tracks while Remnii used [Sending] to contact Nazgrim.

He actually responded as said that the Scarlet Crusade had come looking for him after security got tighter. He was in a cave to the northeast, and he had to lie low as more patrols were searching and they had to stay out of sight. Remnii told him they’d let everyone know and to stay safe.

Seria and Gil were able to identify the path to the cave. Sasha also was able to smell his direction. They were able to evade a patrol, and they were able to eavesdrop on them. There was a mage, a tracker with some hounds, and several inquisitors and warriors.

Scarlet Inquisitor says: He can’t have gotten far. The scout that reported back from the tower indicated that he was still injured. Look for any sign of his passage, we will find him and bring him in.
Scarlet Crusader says: I can’t believe the Highlord would help one of those green-skinned monsters.
Scarlet Inquisitor says: I can’t believe it either, but it’s the truth. Now it falls to us to clean up the mess.
Scarlet Crusader says: Do you really think we can take him? You saw what he did to the others...
Scarlet Inquisitor says: We are to find him and capture him if possible. If not, killing is acceptable. We already have one prize, a second, while good, is unnecessary. I wouldn’t put more of our lives at risk.

They were not heading in the same direction as Nazgrim, and Gil and Seria were able to cover the tracks. They found a small outcropping of a cave, and inside was Nazgrim with his axe at the ready.

Nazgrim says [orcish]: You’re back.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: We told you we’d be back.
Nazgrim says [orcish]: Yeah. Good timing. Everything has gone to shit around here. All of a sudden, patrols came out of the woodwork.
Velameestra Windrunner says [orcish]: We passed one of them on the way here. They know the Highlord helped you.
Nazgrim says [orcish]: Shit and piss. Do you know what happened to him?
Velameestra Windrunner says [orcish]: No. We overhead them as they passed, they have another of your kin.
Nazgrim says [orcish]: What!? Who else do they have?

At that moment, he saw Mag’beth and Sasha. He raised his axe, but Beth assured him they didn’t want to fight. She said that some of their other group had been taken captive. Mag expressed concern it might have been Grom, but Nazgrim didn’t seem convinced as he would have sooner died.

However, the crusaders wielded strange magics, and Vel pointed out that unless Hellscream had resistance against those magics the mages could have potentially incapacitated him. Beth immediately showed remorse that she had left them, but her other head assured her there was nothing they could do.

Nazgrim said he wanted to save the human that had spared him if he was in trouble, as a warrior like him deserved a warrior’s death. Vel said they didn’t even know where Taelan was, and she asked if Uther had something from the Highlord they could use as an anchor for a scrying spell.

Uther knit his brow and then snapped his fingers and produced a crest. Seria produced her scrying bowl and they tried to scry on Taelan Fordring. Vel went first, and the image cleared to reveal Taelan Fordring. He was stripped of his armor, and he was in a dungeon. There were two individuals standing before him. Both of them were garbed in Scarlet Crusade regalia.

The man in front was an elvish man with short choppy reddish blonde hair. He had a pair of spectacles, a crimson robe, and a tome on his hip. He grabbed Taelan by the chin.

Arellas Fireleaf says: You DARE make such accusations to us! You have the gall to call US traitors? When you have been harboring a monster among your very countrymen!

His fingertips glowed with heat and they burned the side of Taelan’s face. The elf stepped back, and Sally Mograine stepped forward.

Sally Mograine says: Highlord, it does not need to be this way. Simply tell us where the orc has gone, and we will see to it that this uncomfortable business is put behind us. But I know what you have been doing. I know you have been giving safe harbor to a great many enemies of our faith.

Taelan spit on the ground.

Taelan Fordring says: I know what you’ve been doing! I don’t care what you do to me, but I won’t tell you anything! I know what type of people you are… this plague? It was all your doing! You wouldn’t be trying to cover your tracks otherwise! This is not what we stood for, Mograine!

Sally shook her head.

Sally Mograine says: You stubborn fool. You have obviously allowed your anger to cloud your judgment. I can only assume that one of the vampyrs you have been offering asylum was able to compromise you.

Taelan laughed.

Taelan Fordring says: A convenient excuse. What would you have me do? Tear a family apart!?
Sally Mograine says: They’re not a family anymore, Taelan. They’re monsters. Tricking their living kin into lowering their guard. They are no more family than livestock is to a farmer. Perhaps you may have given them safety, but how long until they turn their fangs on their family? How long before they betray each other? Or how many other innocents must die to sate their hunger so they don’t do that? How deep do you think their act will go? You put our entire order in jeopardy. I suppose we should thank your cook, however. Had they not grown suspicious of the portions you had delivered to this orc, we’d have never known. But fine, if you insist a vampyr was not responsible, it simply means you are a threat that must be eliminated.

She turned to the elf.

Sally Mograine says: Wrathcaster, if you’d be so kind.

Arellas nodded.

Arellas Fireleaf says: Of course, Grand Inquisitor.

He cast a [Teleportation Circle], and Sally grabbed Taelan, wrenched his head back, and informed him they would see what secrets he had.

Sally Mograine says: Worry not, master Fordring. Your people have no reason to loud you as anything but a hero. Once I’m through with you.

Brilliant golden, white magic seared through her clawed jewelry, and she forced him to allow him to be teleported away. The scrying censor cut out early.

Velameestra Windrunner says [orcish]: They aren’t here anymore.
Uther Menethil says [orcish]: They must have a stronghold.
Velameestra Windrunner says [orcish]: The Scarlet Monastery is their stronghold. We can’t do anything until we siege it.
Uther Menethil says [orcish]: We have to save him.

Nazgrim’s nostrils flared.

Nazgrim says [orcish]: I’m coming with you when you go to save him. That man risked his life for me, and my honor refuses to let that go unpaid.

Mag’beth asked if she could borrow Seria’s scrying focus, and Seria nodded. She started to scry with her own magic, and it immediately failed.

Beth says [orcish]: I… I’ve never had trouble scrying on him before. Something must be shielding him.
Velameestra Windrunner says [orcish]: My own censor cut out early. If they took Master Fordring to the Monastery, it must be warded. If you can’t scry Hellscream, he is likely in the same place.

Sasha and Mag’beth wanted to go as well, and there was a tense moment between them and Nazgrim, but Nazgrim relented they couldn’t do anything until they found Grom, and if he was in the Monastery they couldn’t take it down alone. The Crusade might kill Grom before they got to him, but it was up to the group what his course of action was. He wasn’t going to raise a blade against any of them until he quit Lordaeron.

Mag says [orcish]: If we need assistance to attack, why don’t we ask the Warsong. They would know if he was captured as well, and they would want to save him. If we can find them, then maybe we can reach some sort of agreement. It seems we both have a more important enemy to fight than one another.
Uther Menethil says [orcish]: Once upon a time I would have called that the Legion, but you’re right.
Remnii says [orcish]: I think you can still call it the Legion. But what do you think of that?
Uther Menethil says: We should make contact with the Warsong.
Victor Prestor says: Well, we are planning on going to the capital city. They are likely on that side of the mountain. How confident do you think Aunt Jaina is smuggling a two headed giant and a cat person out of the city?
Velameestra Windrunner says: She’s a conjurer, she’d just teleport them outside the city.
Victor Prestor says: Fair enough!

Mag'beth suggested that if they were going to be sent outside the city, the group could then just scry on them later.

Nazgrim says [orcish]: Heh. Infiltrating the capital city, and go figure you’re gonna send me right there.
Velameestra Windrunner says [orcish]: Try anything, and you’d be dead before you left the keep.

Nazgrim raised his hands in gest.

Nazgrim says [orcish]: I’m not foolish enough to try anything, don’t worry.

Vel asked Remnii if she wanted to send Jaina or if she should, and Remnii opted to do it. She explained the situation to Jaina, who expressed that a great deal had been happening. However, Jaina said that she would do what she could. She would need to understand more, but she believed she should be able to make sense of the story. Beyond magic, she said that she had an orc in their custody and she might be able to make sense of things. Remnii asked for her name, and Jaina said it was Garona, and she had become good friends with Lianne.

Rem: That is the princess club for you!

Remnii also wrote a missive to be sent with them as Vel worked to open up a teleportation circle. Nazgrim said they had their orders, and he promised to uphold his end of the deal. They’d be ready to siege the Monastery.

Velameestra Windrunner says [orcish]: Have you teleported before?
Nazgrim says [orcish]: No.
Velameestra Windrunner says [orcish]: Then don’t fall over.
Beth says [orcish]: I can hold your hand if you want.
Nazgrim says [orcish]: What? No.

Sasha growled as the ogre offered a hand, and they were teleported through to Jaina’s teleportation study.

Victor says: Hm. How many times do you think you’d be flogged if they learned about this?
Uther Menethil says: I think if the Scarlet Crusade tried to flog me… well, we’ll find out soon enough.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Our next stop is the Bulwark.

Vel messaged Alleria and informed her they were going to be scrying on her and they were on their way. Alleria was amazed they were already arriving, but she didn’t resist the scry as Vel then prepared to teleport to their location. They had made a small camp not far from the Bulwark to wait.

Alleria Windrunner says: Hey, they’re already on their way.
Kael'thas Sunstrider says: Already? Wow, that was quite quick! I was expecting to camp at least for a day.

The magic in the air shifted and the group teleported in at that moment.

Kael'thas Sunstrider says: Welcome back, everyone! I trust your diversion was fruitful?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Unfortunately, our contact was captured.
Kael'thas Sunstrider says: What!?
Velameestra Windrunner says: …Yeah. He was… harboring vampyrs and he aided an injured orc. The Crusade saw it as an opportunity to label him as a traitor to the order, and he has… likely been taken to the monastery for as much as we were able to tell.

Kael’thas clenched his fist.

Kael'thas Sunstrider says: So you’re telling me he was a member of the Scarlet Crusade, and yet he was helping…
Velameestra Windrunner says: Us, yes.
Kael'thas Sunstrider says: And now his own people have turned on him for it.
Velameestra Windrunner says: They were trying to convince him to claim it was because one of us had bewitched him. Influenced his mind. He refused to do so because that was not the case. That’s the narrative they’re presently spreading.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I mean, it’s effective if you want to spread fear.

Kael’thas bared his fangs and he spun around with a swipe of his hand through the air. The campfire they had started to build for later on exploded in a massive column of fire. Vel’s eyes widened and she took an instinctual step back as she had seemingly jumped at the sight of it. However the flames died down quickly.

Kael’thas sighed in frustration.

Kael'thas Sunstrider says: Unbelievable… where did you say this Fordring was now?
Velameestra Windrunner says: We suspect the Scarlet Monastery. Their stronghold. It’s warded against scrying, if that is the case. My sensor blinked out the moment they teleported.
Kael'thas Sunstrider says: Well, at the very least it seems we do have an ally. ‘Tis just a shame this is the way it has manifested. If we can save this man, I want to do so. If he risked his life to save my people, I refuse to allow him to succumb to their fate in their stead. I… still don’t know how I feel about him showing mercy to an orc, but I am willing to overlook that given the circumstance. Speaking of which, you were going to speak with him as well, yes?
Velameestra Windrunner says: We were. It… appears their chieftain has also likely been captured. The remaining Warsong also have a vested interest in raiding the monastery at this point.
Kael'thas Sunstrider says: …and we need all the help we can get if we are going to scrub them off the face of this continent. I’m not happy about this, but it would be foolish not to turn their blades against our enemies. At present, loathe as I am to say it, the Crusade is a better threat to our people than the Horde is. The Horde may be squatting in our cities, but we won’t be able to return to them if the Horde has their way.

Kael’thas’s expression softened as he looked over at Vel again.

Kael'thas Sunstrider says: I’m sorry if that startled you. I… it was unbecoming.
Velameestra Windrunner says: It was an understandable reaction. Think nothing of it.
Kael'thas Sunstrider says: Well, seeing we are all here, I suppose our next course of action is to speak with those at the Bulwark.
Liadrin Everpost says: As we had mentioned previously, many of our leaders are here. Lor’themar is present, as is the Ranger General. As far as Lordanes, I believe your sister is commanding the front lines, Uther. After the death of Grand Marshall Valonforth, she stepped up to lead their forces from what I understand. So, you should prepare yourself, I imagine it will be an emotional reunion.

Uther swallowed.

Uther Menethil says: I hope she doesn’t hit me.

Darion smirked.

Darion Mograine says: Well, you probably deserve it.
Uther Menethil says: I certainly deserve it, it’s still going to hurt!
Maxwell Tyrosus says: Turalyon should be present as well.

Alleria winced quietly.

Gilveradin Windrunner says: Is there a Windrunner that won’t be there?
Velameestra Windrunner says: Galadin. Galadin is back at Karazhan.

Alleria had a look of immense guilt on her face as there was another as well, but Vel didn’t voice what went unsaid.

Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: So what is our approach here? I presume you intend to reveal your identities to at least a few of them.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I think that may be wise… I imagine an “Angus the Bastard” from nowhere would do little for turning heads. And it’s going to be… hard otherwise.
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: Regardless, I’m certain that those gathered here will be interested in speaking with you considering the events that have transpired. Not to mention our own involvement. However.

He looked at Vel.

Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: We will need to have a discussion with the other members of the Convocation.

Vel nodded.

Kael'thas Sunstrider says: To that end, I know I may have mentioned it when we spoke up in Northrend before… everything. But, Velameestra, if you would be willing, I want you at the table. I know you’re not a member of the Convocation, but you have an exceptional amount of experience. And the knowledge of your own interventions, both across the sea and in Andorhal, is something I would want delivered firsthand. If you agree, I would gladly grant you the title of ambassador so you can be present for that conversation.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I would be honored.
Kael'thas Sunstrider says: I’m glad to hear that. Frankly, I think you’d be able to disseminate the information you have learned much better than we could do second hand. I know that I personally will be emboldened by your presence there.

Vel smiled faintly.

Velameestra Windrunner says: I’m glad I can be of service.
Kael'thas Sunstrider says: This is not going to be a series of easy conversations. But if we are going to make this work… if we are going to unite our people again and create that paradise you described in your vision? This will be the first step. I am prepared to bear the full responsibility of whatever Lor’themar and the others decide is the most appropriate course of action. Indeed, this may very well be the beginning of a new kingdom of Quel’Thalas. I just hope it is one that is united.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Then let us lay the first stone.

Kael’thas smiled, recognizing the reference to the book she had just returned to him.

Velameestra Windrunner says: And as it stands, the board state has shifted quite significantly since the fall of Silvermoon.
Rommath Pyrewing says [telepathically]: Indeed. But there’s only one way for us to find out. We won’t accomplish anything by dawdling here any further, and his Majesty was kind enough to dispose of our firewood for us.

He glanced over at Kael’thas, who chuckled bashfully.

They headed toward the Bulwark. The makeshift military facility was a combination of wooden palisade walls, but also on sight constructed steel. There were several dark iron dwarves present and their artifice was evident. To the south, Vel knew Scholomance was not far away. The different camps were visible, and it seemed the elven camps were slightly further away. Even further beyond, they saw the hint of the borderlands where the fighting was the fiercest.

Sensing they were going to go straight into the meetings, Vel used magic to put [Glibness] on herself. They were heading towards the elven encampment, and the first figure Vel saw was Rhonin. And then Vereesa. And then Giramar. And then Esara Verrinde and Lirath. It seemed they had just finished up lunch.

Vel looked over, and Alleria stopped.

Velameestra Windrunner says: Aunt Alleria?
Alleria Windrunner says: This is a mistake. I shouldn’t have come back.
Velameestra Windrunner says: You’re not alone. That was all a misunderstanding before and you know that.

Alleria hesitated, but nodded.

Alleria Windrunner says: Alright.

Rhonin did a double take at a distance, and then he said something to Vereesa. Vereesa started sprinting at them and Lirath, Giramar, and Esara seemed confused, but then they recognized Alleria, and then the king and Rommath, but they didn’t recognize the others.

Vereesa slowed down as she closed, and she looked over at Vel and Gil.

Vereesa Windrunner says: It’s… it’s really you, isn’t it?
Velameestra Windrunner says: …Hey aunt Vereesa.

Vereesa threw her arms around Vel and Gil and pulled them into a hug.

Vereesa Windrunner says: I missed you both so much.
Velameestra Windrunner says: I missed you too.
Vereesa Windrunner says: I’m… Rho told me. He told me everything that happened. I’m just glad you’re back. Both of you.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Does… Ann’da know?
Vereesa Windrunner says: I didn’t think it was the right time. I thought you should do that yourself, it seemed… the right thing to do.
Gilveradin Windrunner says: I don’t think any time is the right time.
Vereesa Windrunner says: No. It’s not.

She gave each of them a kiss on the cheek and then looked over at Alleria. Alleria offered a sad smile.

Alleria Windrunner says: Hi… Little Moon.
Vereesa Windrunner says: Welcome back, Lady Sun.

Alleria made a hesitant movement, but then recoiled. Vereesa held out her hand and took Alleria’s. By that point, Lirath, Rhonin, Giramar, and Esara had caught up.

Lirath Windrunner says: It’s… good to see you again, sister. I’m sorry things ended so…

Alleria shook her head.

Alleria Windrunner says: It’s fine. I’m back, and we can talk about things. Is… is Sylvanas here?

Vereesa and Lirath shared a look and nodded.

Vereesa Windrunner says: She hasn’t left the Bulwark once. Just when she took the front lines.
Alleria Windrunner says: Okay.
Rhonin Windrunner says: Um. Lirath. There’s um… a couple of other people you should probably see.

He gestured to Vel and Gil. Vel reached up to remove her mask so that her face was more visible. She looked at him meekly.

Velameestra Windrunner says: …Hey ann’da. Sorry… it’s been so long.
Lirath Windrunner says: …what? …Vel?

He looked at her in disbelief and Vel offered a small nod. He then looked over at Gil, who was disguised.

Lirath Windrunner says: …Gil?

Gil wordlessly approached and hugged Lirath. In shocked disbelief, Lirath returned the hug, and over Gil’s shoulder he looked at Vel with tears starting to stream down his face. Vel hesitated, but Gil grabbed her and pulled her into the hug.

Lirath Windrunner says: …you’re alive.
Velameestra Windrunner says: There’s… a lot I need explain-
Lirath Windrunner says: I don’t care. I don’t care. Whatever you have to tell me… I will listen. And I will be glad. Because you’re here.

Vel had tried to hold her tears back, but she was unable to do so and bloody streaks started to drip down her cheeks. Esara had raised a shocked hand over her mouth at the revelation that it was Vel, but the keen awareness of what the bloody tears meant settled over her expression.

Lirath had pulled away from the hug, his face wet with his years, and he pulled Vel and Gil’s foreheads to his so they could just be together for a moment.

Lirath Windrunner says: I’m so sorry I failed you. That I wasn’t able to protect you.
Velameestra Windrunner says: Ann’da… it wasn’t your fault.
Lirath Windrunner says: I know.
Velameestra Windrunner says: We were on the other side of the continent.
Lirath Windrunner says: I know. I just… it won’t help anyone for me to blame myself like that. But I just had to say it. I couldn’t… all this time, I couldn’t help either of you, but I’m here now. I don’t know what’s going to happen next… I don’t know what is in store for our family…

He ran a thumb along Vel’s cheek to brush some of the blood away.

Lirath Windrunner says: But I won’t ever let the two of you feel a fraction of the loneliness I feared you felt. I love you both so much.

Vel and Gil repeated the sentiment, and Lirath stepped back, squeezing their hands as he regarded them both with an expression of pure fondness. Esara stepped forward and handed Vel a handkerchief. Vel thanked her and started to wipe the rest of the tears away.

Esara Verrinde says: It… might be wise for you to keep your eyes as dry as you can while you are here. At least for the time being. But I’m glad to see you again, Vel. I’m glad the rumors of your death were at least partially exaggerated.

Vel nodded and mentioned she had kept something for her. She pulled out the drawing of the jade serpent Yu’lon made by Chen from her spellbook and handed it over. Esara’s eyes widened and she asked where Vel had gotten it, and she replied it had been a traveling artist. She would tell her more later. Esara agreed as she looked at the elven leadership they had been walking with.

Liadrin Everpost says: I think there’s a lot we all need to discuss.
Lirath Windrunner says: I think you’re right.

Lirath looked over at Alleria, and then to Vel and Gil, and the others behind them and welcomed them back.
