Druids of the Pack
Wolf Cult
Ralaar Fangfire. Perhaps the most notorious amongst your former allies.” — Fandral Staghelm
Ralaar Fangfire, also known as Alpha Prime, was a powerful archdruid and one of the leaders of the druidic sect known as the Druids of the Pack. He revered the fallen wild god Goldrinn, and sought to master the volatile Form of the Pack, which was a primal representation of the great wolf's fury. However, in the process, he became one of the first worgen.
Description
Ralaar was a well built, muscular man with stern angular features and a sharp nose. His skin was a deep purple, and he had grey-green facial markings beneath his silvery eyes that resembled wide, jagged slash marks that continued down to his arms. He had untamed black hair that was left loose and in a choppy style, with streaks of white along both sides of his head.
Positive Traits | Protective, determined, ferocious, strong, well-intentioned, ambitious, resilient |
Negative Traits | Aggressive, stubborn, arrogant, vengeful, jealous, unforgiving |
Fangfire was an aggressive and strong man that fully believed he had the ability to master the Form of the Pack and use it for the salvation of his people. Even in his worst times, he believed he was doing the right thing, though he faced criticism with extreme stubbornness that proved to be his downfall. He eventually believed that the unified force an army of worgen with him at the head could protect the world from a return of the Legion, and those that fell in his wake would not have survived the onslaught, which was ultimately a fiercely pragmatic and unforgiving mindset that suited his kinship with the unrelenting ferocity of the wilds.
Worgen Form
Ralaar's wogen form was muscular and incredibly tall as he stood at resting height of about 9 feet. He was covered in thick black fur, but it possessed a purplish hue due to the color of the skin beneath it. His hair was a mane of shaggy black and white that erupted from his head and back, and he sported massive fangs and long ears, which emulated those of his elven form. Due to his innate rage, his eyes lacked the clear white-silver glow of his elven form, and instead burned a dire gold-red. After a point, the man ceased to take his elven form, and even in his death, he did not shift back—having become one with his inner beast.
Biography

Ralaar in his Night Elf Form by Blizzard Entertainment, Inc.
Ralaar was among those that showed a strong affinity for the druidic arts that were taught by Cenarius, and he, along with his best friend Arvell, and several other druids such as Tol'vas Moonshadow, felt a close kinship with the wild god Goldrinn who had fallen during the War of the Ancients. In the period of experimentation with the druidic arts following the war, they happened upon the Form of the Pack, which was the wildshape form associated with Goldrinn. However, Malfurion Stormrage found the form to be volatile and uncontrollable, thus too dangerous to be taken. The group that had become known as the Druids of the Pack, led by Fangfire and Arvell, opposed such a decision, but Malfurion remained firm in his belief.
When the War of the Satyr erupted and the night elves were once more beset upon by demons, Ralaar pushed for the allowance of the Form of the Pack even more strongly, as he believed the primal ferocity of the form could give them the edge they needed to beat back the demons once and for all. Malfurion refused to relent, but Ralaar and Arvell took the form anyway during the skirmish that had forced the kaldorei to take a fighting retreat. In the process, they lost control and, in their ferocity, killed several night elves alongside the demons before they were brought back to their senses. Following the event, Malfurion completely forbade the usage of the form.
Ralaar was furious. He saw the Form of the Pack worth the risk as, even though fellow kaldorei might die until they could learn to control it, the power of the form would allow them to end the war sooner and save lives. Arvell, however, was guilt-stricken by the lives he had claimed, and vowed to never use the form again. The vow proved to be Arvell's death, as when he and his lover, Belysra Starbreeze, were ambushed by demons, Arvell refused to take the Form of the Pack and instead chose to fight overwhelming odds without it in order to give Belysra the chance to survive. Ralaar happened upon them immediately after Arvell's death, and he instead took the form to eviscerate the demons and save Belysra. In the moment, he had managed to remain in control, and he regained his night elven form, which only further distressed the grieving Belysra, as she believed if Ralaar could maintain control, then so could have her beloved Arvell.
Together they returned Arvell's body to Malfurion, and both claimed that his caution had resulted in Arvell's death.
Malfurion grieved Arvell's death, but also recognized that Ralaar would continue to take the Form of the Pack, especially in the wake of his best friend's death. He chose to attempt to seal the form away completely using a fang that had been collected from the fallen Goldrinn—at the risk of preventing the wild god from ever reincarnating. Before the rite could be completed, Tol'vas stole the fang and returned it to Ralaar and Belysra with news of what Malfurion had sought to do. In response, they decided to tame the form themselves, and Belysra aided in the creation of the artifact that would be called the Scythe of Elune by using Goldrinn's fang. She then used the scythe to attempt to tame the Form of the Pack, but in the process, she accidentally inflicted Ralaar and several other druids with the worgen curse.
The Druids of the Pack, who changed their name to the Druids of the Scythe, found the affliction to be a blessing, and they used it to freely tear into the demonic threat in force. With the power of the curse, they were able to bring about the end of the War of the Satyr, but, just as Malfurion feared, the worgen began to lose themselves to their fury and rage. Ralaar himself, in fact, turned on Malfurion and the other kaldorei in a fury, as he sought vengeance fort he death of Arvell, and he rallied the worgen to him as he took on the moniker of Alpha Prime.
Belysra was horrified by what she witnessed and regretted what she had enabled, thus in penance, she returned to Malfurion with the scythe, and they in turn used it to seal the worgen into an eternal sleep in the Emerald Dream, beneath the boughs of Daral'nir.
Alpha Prime's Reawakening
Alpha Prime was reawakened by the mage Arugal, who had found the worgen slumbering within a "mysterious realm of dreams and spirits". It had been the mage's belief that he could tame they beasts and they would be a powerful asset against the enemies of Gilneas, particularly the trolls, as the Second Troll Wars had begun in earnest. Genn Greymane, the king of Gilneas, supported the idea, and Alpha Prime and several of his worgen were pulled back to the material plane.
Unbeknownst to Arugal, his control over Alpha Prime was not complete, but he allowed the foolish mage to believe it was. The worgen were also used in the Northgate Rebellion following the construction of the Gilnean wall, and Alpha Prime started to manipulate the weak-willed Arugal. He suggested the worgen be allowed to bite and curse the enemies of Genn Greymane, who had proven himself to be a weak king as he could not control his own people, and then Arugal would have an army of powerful wolf-men at his disposal. The mage complied, and the numbers of worgen started to swell, along with an emergency of followers that came to be known as the Wolf Cult. Alpha Prime turned Genn Greymane and forced him under his control, and killed Arugal for his hubris.
He became aware of the presence of Velinde Starsong on the Eastern Kingdoms, and with her, the Scythe of Elune. He was able to assassinate her, and in the process, he reclaimed the scythe for himself, which awakened its powers fully to him. With the acquisition of the scythe, his power over the worgen was complete, and he seized the capital city of Gilneas as his base of operations with the intention of growing a ferocious, unstoppable army so that their world would never be threatened again.
Alpha Prime awakened more of the former Druids of the Pack, and among them was Tol'vas Moonshadow. However, the younger elf regained his senses just enough to eventually rebel against the worgen alpha and steal the Scythe of Elune before he fled back to Kalimdor. Regardless, Alpha Prime's plans continued apace, as he believed that the scythe would find its way back to him in time.
Chapter Five: Civil War
Alpha Prime first appeared to Tol'vas Moonshadow as a vision when the druid underwent the Ritual of Balance. He challenged Tol'vas to face who he truly was, as their goals and ambitions were not that difference, and he expressed satisfaction at the notion that their packs would collide, as that meant they would see what true strength actually was.
Later, when Tol'vas awakened the other slumbering worgen in order to rally them against Alpha Prime, the real heard the howl of the worgen even on the material plane. He recognized that Tol'vas had returned and the fight between their packs was fast approaching, but he still had his own army of worgen at his disposal, including the feral Genn Greymane. Alpha Prime intended on vanquishing the traitor and reclaiming the scythe that had been stolen from him, and he set about preparations for the war that was to come.
On the eve of the assault on Gilneas, Alpha Prime reached out to Tol'vas through the Emerald Dream where he tried to appeal to Tol'vas one final time to join his side, as he had hoped Tol'vas would be there when he returned to Ashenvale. The other druid, however, refused, and Alpha Prime assured him they would ultimately settle the matter soon enough.
Alpha Prime awaited Tol'vas at the heart of the capital city at the top of the clocktower, and he requested Tol'vas meet with him alone. The younger druid agreed, as he believed that if he could defeat Alpha Prime himself, they could end the conflict without further bloodshed. Alpha Prime offered Tol'vas one final chance to switch sides and join him, but Tol'vas rebuked that the rage had twisted his former friend to be identical to the Legion that he claimed he sought to protect the world from. Alpha Prime accused Tol'vas of being poisoned by the Cenarion Circle, but accepted the younger druid had given him no choice.
The reborn Goldrinn, Valorinn, chose to back Tol'vas in the fight, and accused Alpha Prime of twisting Goldrinn's name in order to become a monster. The rejection of Goldrinn reborn did not faze him, however, as he claimed Valorinn was simply a pale reflection of what the great god could have been.
The two worgen and the reborn wild god erupted into a furious conflict at the top of the clocktower. He sensed that Tol'vas additional boons from his companions, notably a spell from Velameestra Windrunner that allowed Tol'vas to share in her vampyric regenerative ability, and he was able to rip the magic from him. As the conflict came to a close, Alpha Prime was able to rend a fearsome wound in Tol'vas's chest and slammed him into the scaffolding. For all intents and purposes, it appeared Alpha Prime had been victorious.
However, Tol'vas was given surprise aid from other Druids of the Pack that had fallen, most notably the spirit of Arvell, who sought to put an end to his best friend's reign.
Death
With the aid of the fallen Druids of the Pack, Tol'vas was able to get the upper claw over Alpha Prime. The final, decisive blow was with the Scythe of Elune, which ripped through the worgen from shoulder to hip. In his dying moments, Alpha Prime was able to exchange words with Tol'vas, and he expressed that he hoped Tol'vas was right, as if he wasn't, he saw no other option than for the world to burn at the end.
Tol'vas, after recovering from the toll of the battle, which had temporarily claimed his own life, took Alpha Prime's body back to the grove of Tal'doren, where it was buried. He decided to plant the seed he was gifted on the grave of his old friend, which in turn sprouted into a dryad tree that gave birth to the dryad Taryndrella. In the end, his death had sprouted new life.

Quotes
- Appeal to Tol'vas Moonshadow
- You saw the pools of blood boiling at their will, you know the strength required to stand against them when they return, but the teachings of the Cenarion Circle are misguided and weak, and all they will do is create shrapnel when the Legion returns. You know this! You feel it in your heart! Because we’re the same, you and I. It’s why Goldrinn’s power recognized you, as it recognized me. Why the Scythe answered your command as it did mine. You think I’m some villain. That I am slaughtering the innocents for no reason. That all I’ve constructed here is for some personal gain, but you know that’s not the truth, because you have seen it first-hand.
- Opening assault on Tol'vas
- You are WEAK. PATHETIC! That Goldrinn would have chosen you is to spit on his very name! Let me show you!
- Some of Ralaar's final words
- I have moved well beyond Her sight… but by Elune I hope you’re right, Tol’vas. Because if you’re not… then this world will burn.
Trivia
- Ralaar had strong feelings for his best friend, Arvell, that could have been romantic in nature, but were never confirmed to be one way or another. Regardless, he displayed jealousy toward Arvell's lover, Belysra Starbreeze, and it resulted in the pair of them feuding frequently.
